Bill O’Reilly Wants To Know: Will Black America Speak Out Against Looting?

Fox News resident curmudgeon, Bill O’Reilly, has demonstrated his racial insensitivity too often to catalog here. Suffice to say that the man who was surprised that African-American patrons of a Harlem restaurant aren’t constantly screaming, “M-Fer, I want more iced tea,” is not the best example of racial tolerance.

So this week O’Reilly was promoting a segment on his program that would deal with the aftermath of the police shooting of an unarmed African-American. The promo asked a ludicrous question that sought to heap the responsibility of isolated crowd behavior unto the entire black population of America: “Will Black America Speak Out Against Looting?”

Fox News Bill O'Reilly

Is he serious? So whenever there is an incident that O’Reilly finds objectionable, he believes that everyone who bears any resemblance to the people involved are obligated to condemn it. Does that apply to the white police officer in Ferguson, MO who shot Mike Brown? Will white America speak out against officers killing unarmed citizens? Does it apply to George Zimmerman? Will white America speak out against murdering innocent black teenagers? Does it apply to governors who pass laws that subvert democracy? Will white America speak out against minority voter suppression? Does it apply to bankers who thrust the nation into near economic collapse? Will white America speak out against predator lenders and fraudulent mortgage schemes? Does it apply to judicial activists on the Supreme Court? Will white America speak out against the gutting of the Civil Rights Act?

O’Reilly and his right-wing comrades are constantly lumping their ideological foes into categories where they have collective responsibility, but he absolves white people of having any part in the actions of their ethnic fellows. Muslims, for instance, are required to condemn the terrorists acts of Al Qaeda (which they have done), but whites are not asked to do the same when innocent Muslims are killed by drones.

For the benefit of O’Reilly and his racist cohorts, black Americans have been prominently speaking out against any law-breaking in response to the Brown killing. His parents have called for people to “come together and do this right, the right way. No violence.” Al Sharpton told a rally of supporters that “To become violent in Michael Brown’s name is to betray the gentle giant that he was.” President Obama released a statement saying…

“I know the events of the past few days have prompted strong passions, but as details unfold, I urge everyone in Ferguson, Missouri, and across the country, to remember this young man through reflection and understanding. We should comfort each other and talk with one another in a way that heals, not in a way that wounds. Along with our prayers, that’s what Michael and his family, and our broader American community, deserve.”

These comments expose O’Reilly for the ignorant and deliberately race-baiting provocateur that he is. Does every black person in America have to make a public statement before he will be satisfied? O’Reilly isn’t actually interested in people taking responsibility. He is only interested in laying blame and disparaging African-Americans as thugs or supportive of thuggery.

America’s black population has no more responsibility to account for every other black American, than white Americans have to account for racists like O’Reilly. If they did, then I want to know if white America will speak out against the racist Fox News promo that asks if black America will speak out against looting?

  1. Fox News resident curmudgeon? I would say that should read “Fox News resident idiot,” but they do seem to specialize in those at Fox, don’t they?

Of course, when Obama does speak out against looting, it’s a distraction from Benghazi and why is he spending so much time on irrelevancies.

No surprises anymore. Fox really should work on a new angle, but then, more fodder for Volume II, right, Mark?

  2. Right after white people speak out against police shooting unarmed citizens.

  3. This schtick with the “we demand an apology from ALL of them” theme is nothing new, as already noted in the article, this is what they do whenever an act of terrorism is committed by Islamic extremists, the demand is for most of all Muslims to apologize. Even when top representatives of such groups, or large numbers of them do, it is either not enough for them or is ignored completely (remember how they were going on about how no Muslims apologized for 9/11? Some did he same for the actions of the ISIS recently).

I personally encountered a troll that expressed exactly above, that the number of Muslims apologizing was not enough, not even half of them apologized he said. My response to that though top American officials have spoken out against incidents like the Rwandan Genocide, the Ebola Outbreak, the ISIS uprising, the MH370 and MH17 crashes, I never saw “half or more than half” of America doing the same. Therefore, by his own criteria, we’d have to determine that America doesn’t give two shits about ANY of the above incidents. After all, according to him, having a representative speak on it on the behalf of others isn’t enough, if it isn’t at least half of the demographic in question it’s invalid.

The most amazing thing about all this? The chutzpah. Note that this is a crowd that sees apologizing as “weak” and has condemned a perceived “apology tour”, demanding that OTHERS apologize for THEIR actions.

  4. “…racists like Bill O’Reilly…”

You are lying once again. It’s obvious you are unable to flap your jaw without spewing lies and hate and insults. Here’s an idea for you to consider: Let the investigation proceed in order to get to the facts. Furthermore, several people on Fox News (including Sean Hannity) have pointed out that the vast majority of people who did the rioting and looting don’t even live in that community. They were just a bunch of opportunistic thugs. The people within this neighborhood have been protesting peacefully.

    You do nothing but lie.

    • Scott, I’m so glad you post here because I couldn’t invent a better example of ignorant wingnuttiness if I tried.

The racism illustrated in this article has to do with the promotion that O’Reilly used for his program, not the actual events in Ferguson (which were also racist, but that’s a different matter) . The promo was unarguably racist for all the reasons I stated (and that you ignored) above. But thanks again for being such a great example of Teabilly stupidity.

      • I am smarter than you will ever hope to be.

        • Scott, what a great comeback! Brilliant in it’s simplicity. Who cares whether you present a good argument? Just knowing you’re smarter explains everything. The simple fact that Hannity actually saw the looters and followed them home is more than enough proof. He did that, right? Or did the looters just leave their name and address at the stores?

    • Hi, Scott. Very interesting post. However, as a general rule, looters don’t stick around to leave their name and address. It’s kind of an anonymous thing. If you are aware of the looters that are from out of town (or even the ones who live locally) and their names and addresses, don’t you think it would make more sense to tell the police instead of us? You may find this hard to believe but Faux News, and especially Hannity, are not the best source of accurate reporting. And it doesn’t look good for you to quote them as a source. Makes you seem…gullible. Just sayin’.
