The Ever Irrelevant Fox Nation Slams Sheryl Crow

Sheryl CrowToday on Fox Nation the editors featured a story that further demonstrates how out of touch they are and how desperately dishonest. The Fox Nationalists decided to go after the beautiful and talented Sheryl Crow for her audacity to exercise her First Amendment rights. The headline in their entertainment section was “Increasingly Irrelevant Sheryl Crow Sings Anti-Palin Tune.”

For the record, Crow is a nine-time Grammy winner. Her last album, “Detours,” debuted on the billboard charts at number two and received another Grammy nomination just last year. Her just-released “100 Miles From Memphis” is presently #10 on Amazon’s overall music listings and #1 on Amazon’s Adult Contemporary list.

For a news enterprise that repeatedly features Ted Nugent, Jon Voight, and Victoria Jackson, they have a pretty funny definition of “irrelevant.” Especially since Crow’s new album is getting a lot of buzz and she is making high-profile appearances around the country and on national television programs like Letterman and Leno. Her anti-Palin song only reinforces her relevance. Plus, it’s a great song:

I think what the Fox Nationalists may really be upset about is that Crow speaks her mind, and does so effectively. A previous article on Fox Nation referenced an interview of Crow by Katie Couric in Glamour Magazine. In that interview Couric asked Crow what she thought of the Tea Party.

“My main concern is that it’s really fear-based. What’s coming out of the Tea Party most often, especially if you go onto YouTube, and you see some of the interviews with these people who really don’t even know what the issues are, they’re just swept up in the fear of it and the anger of it. They’re not sure what they’re angry at; They don’t understand what’s happening on Wall Street. They haven’t educated themselves, but they’re just pissed off. And I understand that, I’m pissed off too. But knowledge is power, and anything less than that when it comes to anger is dangerous.”

Those remarks led the right-wing media machine to condemn Crow for calling Tea Partiers angry, uneducated, and dangerous. I don’t know what they’re complaining about, it seems fairly accurate to me. Now her new song is getting blasted by the same wingnut crowd, and even though they call it an anti-Palin song, it is much broader than that. In fact there is only one reference to Palin via her notorious Tweet asking her disciples to “reload.” There’s your angry, uneducated, and dangerous, right there.

The central theme of the song addresses the noisy bickering of cable news shoutcasters. It is more a critique of the media than a hit on Palin. In one line she laments that, “Ignorance is patriotic. Reasons are so idiotic.” That pretty much describes the state of debate amongst the right-wingers who inhabit Fox News. They glorify ignorance and revile reason. All the better to exploit emotion and propaganda. And if that’s not relevant, I don’t know what is.

  1. sheryl crow should keep kid rocks cigar in her mouth, and try singing songs people want to here, ignorant bitch!!

    • Jealous? Don’t worry, I think Kid Rock will set aside time for you too.

    • Yeah, let’s here those songs people want to here! Here, here!

  2. MEOW Sheryl and Mark. Jealous of someone who doesn’t have to ride the coattails of someone else? Liberals rarely come up with ideas of their own. They always try to make a name for themselves by protesting something. Sheryl is a has been, with personal life failures. Sarah, while not everyone’s cup of tea, has the spotlight now and older has been libs hate it, probably because they failed to have a monogamous lifestyle, with security and good looks. They are insecure in their own worth so they have to bash anyone with a conservative successful lifestyle. Not sure why Mark hates Fox unless it’s because they are successful and he isn’t?

    • OMG. That’s the funniest thing I’ve read in a long time.

Sheryl Crow, A woman who has sold millions of records, traveled the world, and performed with living legends, is only now trying to make a name for herself? She’s a has been whose last Grammy nomination was just last year, and whose current record is the best selling Adult Contemporary record on Amazon and #10 in all of music?

And she’s had “personal life failures” as opposed to say EVERYBODY ELSE who’s ever lived? She’s also a brave cancer survivor. And look at the personal lives of conservatives like Newt Gingrich, John McCain, Rush Limbaugh, Ronald Reagan, etc., who all had multiple marriages. Look at Palin who’s own daughter is an unqualified mess and who didn’t have the character to complete the job as governor that the people elected her to (at great expense).

And if think that a former 1/2 term governor who can’t speak in complete sentences, with an approval rating in the 20’s – who even Republicans don’t think is qualified for higher office – is “successful” you need to adjust your definition of the word. The only thing she is successful at is getting people with limited grey matter to worship her and duping morons into buying her ghost-written books.

      Thanks for the laugh.

    • Project much, Laurie? Not everyone thinks like a petulant 4-year-old the way you do. I’m also pretty sure Sarah Palin latched onto Jon McCain’s coattails the way a crab louse latches onto a public hair. She only has the spotlight now because she is a one-woman freak show, and the media loves a circus.

  3. Palin was hit with the lucky stick the day she was announced as the VP candidate. She was the governor of the nation’s 46th most populated state, a few thousand miles away from its nearest state neighbor. She was able to quit her job and make millions, all because she has a pretty face and can snarkily read the words other people either write for her, or have already said. The next original thought from her will be the first.

I may be a metal head, but I know talent when I hear it, and I think the reason why cancer survivor Sheryl Crow has sold millions of albums, been on national TV countless times, and has done sold out tours internationally for 15+ years might be because she’s a little more than a has-been. Oh, and the song doesn’t specifically call out Palin. It could be about any number of ignorant nozzles. (Oh, and her second album went triple platinum without one albums sold at Wal-mart, because it was banned there due to one line of one song.)

  4. You’re right Laurie—Far right.
Crow is a has-been and musical failure, unlike the musical talent of Fox”News” darling Ray Stevens! Crow has “one” line in “one” song and she must be vilified as sticking her nose in the Political game too far, but, who could possibly vilify “60’s” one-hit-wonder Ray Stevens who does an “entire album” attacking the Left.
Question for Laurie: Do you consider all Cancer survivors as “personal life failures” or just Sheryl Crow?
Maybe Ted Nugent could come out of irrelevance and threaten Sheryl Crow’s life, if he hasn’t already. I suspect you wouldn’t find anything wrong with that though.
