Media Ignores That Hillary Clinton Is Crushing Donald Trump And All Other GOP Candidates

For most of the past decade TV news has struggled to adapt to the Internet era by employing sensationalism and tabloid scandal-mongering to boost ratings and save their failing industry. This seems like a scenario custom made for the political ascendancy of a faux-reality cartoon character like Donald Trump. In this environment a clown like Trump steals the editorial spotlight every time he belches out some typically ignorant and/or hostile opinion. He revels in all the attention he gets, despite the fact that most people are laughing at him. And the media regards their ratings as evidence that they are producing valid journalism.

So it is not surprising that when a new poll is published that shows Trump leading the pack of Republican losers, that the press will jump on that news and try to invent some sort of relevance to the state of the political landscape. In truth, Trump’s poll-topping position could not be more irrelevant. As reported here at News Corpse, polls that attempt to capture the mood of the GOP electorate at this early stage of a campaign are not particularly meaningful. Republican voters are as fickle as they are ignorant. Anyone who expects Trump’s polling to remain at these levels is woefully ill-informed about these election cycles.

While most of the media was pumping up Trump’s temporary and insignificant poll numbers, some other data released in the same survey was far more consequential and nearly entirely ignored. The USA Today/Suffolk University poll also did head-to-head matchups between Hillary Clinton and each of the GOP’s leading candidates. The headline that ought to have leaped out at the news editors’ desks was that “Hillary Clinton Beats All Republican Challengers.” That’s right, every last one of them, including the allegedly surging Donald Trump.

Hillary Clinton

Clinton is beating Jeb Bush by four points, Marco Rubio by six, Mike Huckabee by nine, Rand Paul by ten, Scott Walker by eleven, Ben Carson by thirteen, and the Golden Boy of the quarter-hour, Donald Trump, by a landslide seventeen points. So Trump is actually faring far worse than any other Republican candidate against the likely Democratic nominee.

What’s more, an ABCNews/Washington Post poll shows that while Clinton’s favorables have risen to a majority (52%), Trump’s numbers, although improved, are still at 61% unfavorable. That includes 81% of Latinos (who Trump laughably said he would carry) having a negative view of Trump. And if further evidence of Trump’s unpopularity is needed, a Fox News poll last month reported that Trump led the field in candidates for whom voters say they would never vote. A substantial majority of 59% said that Trump would never get their support.

So why all the hoopla over a poll that shows Trump leading his Republican rivals? When there are sixteen candidates vying for the nomination, it doesn’t take much to grab the lead. Indeed, it only takes 17%, a number that no self-respecting candidate would ever brag about. It means that 83% of your own party’s voters chose someone else, or no one. Yet these are the numbers that the press has been hyping all day long, while virtually ignoring the far more significant results showing Hillary Clinton easily besting all of her GOP challengers. And her popularity is increasing even after a season of Clinton bashing over phony scandals about emails, charitable donations, and the unrelenting specter of Benghazi.

For the record, this is not the first time that the media has ignored polling that showed Clinton beating her GOP rivals. Two months ago the same thing happened with a Quinnipiac poll where Clinton also beat every Republican they matched against her. It kind of makes you wonder whether they will ever report any poll reflecting positively on Clinton. Especially when there is hoax candidate like Trump in the race.

  1. Is it being ignored because it’s really not news given we are soooo far away from a serious candidate emerging from the GOP? Does this information really matter given we are currently in July 2015 – still quite some time away from a primary? Or are you looking for the media to be a cheerleader for the candidate you support and that is the only responsible news to be presented? I would agree with the issues in the media as a whole – given the state of television and it’s go to programming – which appears to be “reality” TV – perfect for Donald Trump. He is a master self promoter.

  2. A 4-point lead against Jeb Bush?? That’s not “crushing”. That is well within striking range. Marco Rubio is also in striking range. Donald trump won’t get the nomination. This is flash-in-the-pan navel gazing.

    • Scott – you may have just noted why the news media isn’t reporting these results the way Mark thinks they should be reported – it’s closer than they thought it would be. Yes, she is leading in this HYPOTHETICAL race, but she isn’t running away with it as Mark had hoped it would and maybe if the media would just get with the program, they could convince the public it’s over before it started. His bias is getting the better of him – it’s clear he has no objective control over himself anymore (if he ever did). Between the Bernie Sanders article and the Scott Walker article – he’s getting a bit sloppy. Almost sounds desperate. Even a religious nut like Huckabee is polling 40% against her – not very convincing for someone who is a foregone conclusion in their universe.

      • Steve, you should get professional help for your obsession with me. In your frequent comments here you spend more time talking about me than any of the subjects of the articles. Obviously you don’t have the intellectual capability of debating on substance so you go personal. I’m liberal. Get over it already. You’re embarrassing yourself.

        • Steve is telling the truth. He is not the one embarrassing himself.

  3. How is Bernie polling vs Bush, Rubio, etc? If it’s gonna be the Dem establishment against the Rep establishment, I’ll just vote for Jill Stein like I did last time, and let the shit fly where it may. But… if Bernie can get nominated (long shot? yeah, so was Obama) that would be a whole ‘nuther deal. Democrats might be smart to draw a bold line between populism and corporatism this time. Voters are looking for a clean break from the status quo, so I wouldn’t count out any long shots from either party just yet.

    • Interesting note about Bernie Sanders – in that he isn’t even mentioned much when talking Ds vs. Rs in the general election – they must not like him or are really trying to get Hillary in. I think you’re right though, what makes Donald Trump interesting now is what could lead to a long shot making it through to the general election. I wouldn’t count on it though – these establishment types don’t like wild cards – they only like those they can control. People like him are a threat to their empire. Just ask Ron Paul.

      • Good comparison. Sanders is to the Dems what Ron Paul was to the GOP. And it’s not so much their policy positions that trouble the parties as much as their popularity with voters. Plus that whole “control” issue.

  4. Well, on the Scott Walker and Bernie Sanders articles I think I was pretty clear and precise in debating the substance of those articles and you acted more irritable that you were clearly wrong or at best misleading in those articles. This article was more opinion about why the news media is ignoring or not heavily reporting something YOU think should be reported with no more back-up than my response to Scott. If you actually read what I’ve written many times, it’s usually about a specific statement in your article – which of course you want unchallenged because they fulfill your need to write ignorant stuff about those you hate while claiming they are not what the article is about, which of course proves you harbor as much hatred as anyone else when pushing your ideas, you just like to camouflage that hatred as much as possible. I should have left Scott’s comment go since this article was just opinion (except the poll results) and minimal ignorance – no need for me to respond. But Scott said something that looked like it required additional support and I couldn’t help myself. If your desired audience is true believing leftists only – then me commenting here really is a waste of time.

    • You just totally proved the point of my comment above. And, yes, you are wasting your time. But obviously you have nothing better to do than display your partisan ignorance on a website where no one cares about your wingnut views.

      • I wasn’t denying anything – except the first part about actually countering your arguments in the 2 articles I noted and your inability to deal with the fact that you were proven wrong or at least shown to be misleading.

        • Proven wrong? Only in your delusional mind.

      • And by the way – I don’t need to camouflage my disdain for your beliefs. I don’t bury my contemptuous comments, make ridiculous claims that a subject is being ignored and then deny my comment as soon as I’m called on it . Call me ignorant all you want, but I’m infinitely more honest than you.

        • Steve, it appears that Mark is getting even less logical and more infantile than before. Didn’t think that was possible. I was wrong.

  5. Looks like this article is more of a joke now with the new poll results showing a huge narrowing between Trump and Clinton. I wonder how he will spin that?
