Anti-American Fox News Says Democrats Who Move to Red States ‘Shouldn’t Be Allowed to Vote’

No major news network is more obsessed with flaunting their alleged patriotism than Fox News. Virtually every minute of airtime is festooned with flags and other visual and aural manifestations of cliché Americana. Their hosts and guests regurgitate nationalistic rhetoric in a non-stop display of partisan and self-serving jingoism.

Fox News, Constitution

However, this feverish facade of fidelity to the fatherland is wholly disingenuous. The Fox News crowd routinely opposes many of the most basic principles of the nation as enshrined in the Constitution. They recoil from equality, mock freedom of the press, force religious doctrine, and embrace insurrection on behalf of their wannabe dictator, Donald Trump.

On Thursday’s episode of Fox’s “The Five,” the panel engaged in a discussion about a supposed “Red State Boom.” Never mind that it was an invention of their imaginations. Blue states have been financially supporting red states for decades. Nevertheless, the segment asserted that there was some sort of mass migration to red states by disaffected Democrats in blue havens like New York and California.

Greg Gutfeld built on that fallacy to praise the independence of the country’s politically divided states. He made the old, racist argument for “states’ rights.” saying that people can choose which state they want to live in based on the rights available there. But he’s ignoring the fact that Constitutional rights are guaranteed nationally. They are not a smorgasbord that states can pick and choose from. By his logic the U.S. could still have slavery in some states, if that’s what residents of that state wanted.

Gutfeld’s perverse misinterpretation of federalism amounted to a virtual dissolution of the republic. He used the recent Supreme Court ruling reversing Roe v Wade as a positive example of how the several states can decide their own rules, even when they deny long held rights for families to make their own choices. And apparently he hasn’t heard that Republicans in Congress are seeking to nationalize their prohibition of abortion, so that no state can have the free choice that he pretends to be championing.

This led to an exchange that is even more troubling. Charles Hurt of the “Moonie” Washington Times, was disturbed that there are people from blue states moving to red states, and bringing their political opinions with them. But Gutfeld has the solution to that problem…

Hurt: One of the problems, though, with this migration is that all of the — and people talk about — they worry that voters are going to vote the same way when they move to these red states. Another concern is the fact that they’re deadbeat voters. They voted for all of this nonsense in the state they left, and then they leave and they don’t get stuck with the bill.
Gutfeld: They shouldn’t be allowed to vote.
Hurt: They shouldn’t be allowed to vote until they pay back all of the taxes they voted for in California or New York.

First of all, many Republicans have been touting this purported migration to red states as evidence that conservative politics were winning, and that Democrats and Republicans were choosing red states because they were aligned with them ideologically. But Hurt’s nonsensical argument is that Democrats are moving out of blue states so that they can vote for the same policies in their new reddish homes that caused them to leave the blue states in the first place. Seriously?

More importantly, Hurt and Gutfeld and their Fox News confederates think it would be appropriate to prohibit these new red staters from voting based solely on their political opinions. And these are the same Fox News numbskulls who profess to be patriots. Hurt’s suggestion that Democrats be prohibited from voting “until they pay back all of the taxes they voted for in California or New York,” is preposterous and bass ackwards. How about blue states prohibiting Republicans from voting until they pay back all of the tax revenues they mooched from Blue America?

It’s a distinctly unconstitutional, anti-democratic position that permeates the the American right. And this isn’t the first time that they’ve said so. Earlier this year Marjorie Taylor Greene made exactly the same proposal…

SEE THIS: Marjorie Taylor Greene Floats Fascist Proposal for Red States to Prohibit Democrats From Voting

So the next time you see the flamboyant flourish of flag-waving on Fox News, recall that their real motivations are more attuned to tyranny and oppression of any dissent from their ultra-right agenda. They not only want Democrats in prosperous blue states to fund the failing red regimes, they want to take away their voting rights as well. And despite the propaganda from Fox News, that’s not America.

Marjorie Taylor Greene Floats Fascist Proposal for Red States to Prohibit Democrats From Voting

The Republican Party, under the new management of House Squeaker and Fox News enabler, Kevin McCarthy, appears to be devoted to remaking itself as a Kremlin-style autocracy. Despite its razor-thin majority, they are governing as if they have popular mandate, which they most decidedly do not.

Marjorie Taylor Greene, Vladimir Putin

Taking the lead in the new McCarthyism is the representative from Swamp Pass, Georgia, who McCarthy pledged he “will never leave,” Marjorie Taylor Greene. Among her recent deplorable initiatives is one that advocates for a virtual civil war, a “national divorce” that separates the red states from the blue states. It’s a plan that would leave the red states destitute, because they rely on federal revenue that is mostly produced in blue states. And it’s on the strength of ideas like this, that violate her pledge of allegiance to one nation indivisible, that McCarthy gave her a coveted seat on the Homeland Security Committee.

RELATED: Marjorie Taylor Greene Unleashes Racist Rant Defending Confederate Statues and Lazy Black People

On Tuesday Greene introduced another of her brilliant plans to undermine democracy. During an interview with ultra-rightist podcaster and over-age student activist, Charlie Kirk, Greene expressed her outrage that Democrats are actually allowed to vote in America. No, really…

Kirk: I don’t think the left would ever stop. I don’t think they’ll ever stop trying to invade our states or our county. So how do we stop them?
Greene: Well, I think that, you know, red states could choose in how they allow people to vote in their states. For example, over the past couple of years we’ve seen a mass exodus from California and New York where we’ve seen people fleeing those leftist policies and moving to states like Florida, Georgia, and Texas. […]

What I think would be something that some red states could propose is, well, okay, if Democrat voters choose to flee these blue states … and they really change their mind on the types of policies that they support, well, once they move to a red state, guess what? Maybe you don’t get to vote for five years. You can live there, you can work there, but you don’t get to bring your values … so that their red states don’t get changed.

First of all, there has been no mass exodus as Greene describes. People are always moving around in the U.S. for many reasons, and many are moving from red states to blue. There’s a reason that blue states are more popular and more populous than red.

More to the point, the only reason that Greene is offering as justification for denying American citizens their right to vote is that she disagrees with their political views. Vladimir Putin will be impressed with how far she has come toward the model of “democracy” that he employs. For that matter, so would Putin’s American media assets, Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity. As a matter of fact, Hannity has already told Greene that “I actually favor that idea.”

There is also a glaring logical breakdown in Greene’s proposal. She argues that Democrats are fleeing blue states because “they really change their mind on the types of policies that they support.” So if these alleged Democrats now support the policies of red Republican states, why would she want to prohibit them from voting? Is it just punishment for their past voting record?

Greene also said that she is “a big believer in defending our ability to pursue life and liberty and happiness [but that] the left is completely destroying that for those of us on the right.” In other words, democracy, wherein people vote for the principles they favor, is destroying the right’s pursuit of happiness. So her solution is to revoke the voting rights of everyone she disagrees with?

You have to wonder how she would respond to a reciprocal policy to deny Republicans the right to vote for five years after they move to a blue state like New York or California – or her own blue-trending state of Georgia? Of course, no Democrat would ever propose anything so oppressive, so anti-democratic, and so downright stupid. For Greene, on the other hand, it’s painfully typical…

Desperate or Delusional? Trump Lies that Biden Admitted There Was Election Fraud in 2020

The fact that Donald Trump is a textbook example of a pathological liar isn’t going to make any headlines. His innate, self-serving aversion to the truth has been well documented. And despite the frequency of his deliberate diversions from reality, he persists in prevaricating with an utter lack of the shame that even a marginally decent person would muster.

Joe Biden, Donald Trump

On Thursday morning Trump provided yet another example of his unabashed bullshittery. In a message posted by his Twitter ban defying spokes-shill, Trump reveled in what he thought (or pretended to think) was a concession by President Biden to his “Big Lie” that the 2020 election was “rigged” and “stolen” from him:

“President Biden admitted yesterday, in his own very different way, that the 2020 election may very well have been a fraud, which I know it was. I’m sure his representatives, who work so hard to make it look legit, are not happy.”

Of course, Biden never “admitted” anything of the sort. In his psychotic state, Trump is either making this up or imagining it. Or perhaps a little of both. What Trump is deceitfully referring to are remarks Biden made in his press conference the day before. What Biden actually said was…

“I’m confident that we can take the case to the American people that the people they should be voting for – who are going to oversee whether your elections, in fact, are legit or not – should not be those who are being put up by the Republicans to determine that they’re going to be able to change the outcome of the election.”

And later in an exchange with Allison Harris of News Nation…

Harris: Speaking of voting rights legislation, if this isn’t passed, do you still believe the upcoming election will be fairly conducted and its results will be legitimate?
Biden: Well, it all depends on whether or not we’re able to make the case to the American people that some of this is being set up to try to alter the outcome of the election. [,..] Remember how we thought not that many people were going to show up to vote in the middle of a pandemic? We had the highest voter turnout in the history of the United States of America.

In both statements Biden was clearly referring to upcoming elections in 2022 and 2024. He was not – as Trump said – talking about the 2020 election at all, which has been hailed by Trump’s own Department of Homeland Security as the “most secure in American history.” All fifty states certified the election results, including those led by Republicans. And Trump lost some sixty court cases that alleged election fraud because he couldn’t produce a shred of evidence.

Biden has good cause to be concerned about future elections considering the efforts by Republicans to pass state legislation that suppresses the votes of likely Democratic constituencies. And the GOP candidates for posts that oversee elections in many states are pro-authoritarian extremists campaigning on promises to take elections out of the hands of voters, and place them into partisan legislatures.

These are things that worry Biden (and many Americans), and is what he was talking about in his press conference. But he was not in any way agreeing with Trump’s flagrant falsehoods about election fraud in 2020. To the contrary, Biden was encouraged by the record voter turnout in 2020, despite significant obstacles. His press secretary, Jen Psaki, affirmed that on Twitter, and in an interview Thursday morning on – of all places – Fox News:

“The point he was raising was both that in 2020, even amongst challenging circumstances, efforts to suppress the vote, and in the midst of a pandemic, there was record turnout – Democrats and Republicans – record turnout to go to the polls. And the point he was making was that the former president asked a number of states – seven or more in fact – to overturn the outcome of the election.”

Meanwhile, at his latest cult rally in Arizona, Trump literally advocated that Republicans should cheat in upcoming elections:

“We have more people than they do, but they know politics and they know cheating. I sometimes say, ‘Well, would the Republicans ever do what they did?’ […] I say if it’s good for them, why aren’t the Republicans doing the same kind of thing with the ballots?”

First of all, they most certainly do not have more people than Democrats. Republicans are a distinct minority of the electorate. They do, however, have more cheaters. So if that’s what he meant, we’d have to give it to him.

More to the point, Trump is urging his cult followers to commit illegal acts because he falsely believes that Democrats are doing so. That wouldn’t be a valid justification to break the law even if it were true. But if Trump knew or cared anything about the law, he wouldn’t currently be the subject of numerous criminal investigations.

HOLY CRAP: Trump’s Debt Ceiling Dumbassery Threatens Global Economic Catastrophe to Own the Libs

In November of 2020, Donald Trump was evicted from the White House by a substantial majority of the American people. But for nearly a year now he has been a private citizen with big friggin’ mouth. No former president has ever been so infatuated with his own voice that he couldn’t just shut the hell up for five minutes.

Donald Trump, Pennywise

For the most part, Trump’s babbling has been focused on undermining democracy and inciting violence in order to impose a dictatorship and evade accountability for his multitude of crimes. However, Trump may have just contributed the first bit of positive blabber in a sea of incoherence and seething animus. Of course, it wasn’t intentional, and he surely has no idea what he’s talking about, but with Trump’s psychotic ranting we have to take good news wherever we can find it.

On Friday Trump posted a message (via his Twitter ban defying spokes-shill) that he intended as a swipe at Republican Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell. It began…

“Mitch McConnell, the Broken Old Crow, has just conceded, for absolutely nothing and for no reason, the powerful Debt Ceiling negotiating block, which was the Republicans’ first-class ticket for victory over the Democrats.”

Trump is still demonstrating his ignorance of economics and what would happen if the United States defaulted on its debt. Either that or he knows that it would send the nation into a severe recession or worse, and that’s what he wants because it would reflect badly on President Biden, and he doesn’t care who gets hurt. Trump went on to complain that McConnell was afraid to use the debt ceiling to kill the “Build Back Worse Bill” and the “Unfrastructure Deal,” as he calls those bills in his typically infantile fashion. This wasn’t the first time that Trump has issued these mind-numbingly stupid threats. He continued saying that…

“The Old Crow also allowed a breaking up of the filibuster, which allows the Democrats now to establish precedent for changing the number of Justices on the Supreme Court and, perhaps most importantly of all, a so-called Voting Rights Bill, which will make it almost impossible for Republicans to get elected in the future.”

Really? So Trump is now conceding that there is precedent for a carve out in the filibuster rules to permit expanding the Supreme Court and passing a voting rights bill. That’s a generous concession that Democrats should take him up on immediately. McConnell shouldn’t mind given that he’s been the target of Trump’s insults for so long and it might teach him a lesson. Trump called McConnell a sick bird three times in this tweet. Although, does anyone else think that when Trump says that “the Broken Old Crow is a loser, and very bad for the Republican Party,” that he is actually talking about himself?

Trump is not just a raging idiot. He is also a flaming hypocrite. With regard to the debt ceiling being used for negotiating purposes, here is what Trump said a couple of years ago:

“I can’t imagine anybody ever even thinking of using the debt ceiling as a negotiating wedge. When I first came into office I asked about the debt ceiling. I understand debt ceilings and I certainly understand the highest rated credit ever in history and the debt ceiling. And I said, I remember, to Sen. Schumer and to Nancy Pelosi, ‘Would anybody ever use that to negotiate with?’ They said ‘Absolutely not.’ That’s a sacred element of our country. They can’t use the debt ceiling to negotiate. That’s a very, very sacred thing in our country. Debt ceiling. We can never play with it.”

So McConnell is a loser for not using “the powerful Debt Ceiling negotiating block,” even though he says that it’s “sacred” and “can’t [be used] to negotiate.” It’s astonishing that anyone could still support this Olympic-class imbecile. But Trump has managed to capture a slice of the American populace that is dependent on having a cult leader to worship. It must be true what comedian Ricky Gervais said…

GOP Senator Projects His Own Anti-Americanism Onto Biden and Democrats in Rancid Fox News Rant

Taking its cues from Nazi propagandists, the Republican Party has become skilled in the dark art of projection as a key method of manipulating their mindless minions. It’s a tactic wherein they accuse others of the unsavory practices in which they themselves are engaging.

Fox News, Constitution

This behavior was evident in the remarks by GOP insurrection supporter, Sen. Josh Hawley (MO-QAnon), during Thursday night’s episode of the Laura Ingraham Inquisition on Fox News. The segment was wholly devoted to disparaging President Biden’s opening speech at the virtual Summit For Democracy that he hosted. Hawley, a committed opponent of democracy, projected his brand of divisive anti-Americanism on Biden in a typically baseless harangue:

“What really stands out to me is that it was one long, anti-American tirade made by the President of the United States and various members of his administration. I mean, you listen to them, they don’t like American voting laws. They don’t like American history. They want to rewrite our culture and completely change it. I mean, this is a guy who doesn’t really like America.”

It’s hard to take seriously a criticism that is so slathered in hypocrisy. After all, it is Hawley’s Republican Party that is attacking and corrupting voting laws across the country, with 19 states (so far) enacting laws that make it harder to vote. It is Hawley’s party that is suppressing history by banning the teaching of critical race theory and slavery. And no party is more obsessed with dictating culture than Hawley’s GOP, led by the King of Cancel Culture and Republican Godfather, Donald Trump. And they want to talk about guys that “don’t like America?”

What was it about Biden’s speech, you might wonder, that has so enraged Hawley and his Fox News hostess? Could it have been Biden’s determination to fight to “shore up the very foundation of American democracy: the sacred right of every person to make their voice heard through free, fair, and secure elections.” Or might it have been his intention to work to “hold corrupt actors accountable, reduce their ability to use the United States and international financial systems to hide assets and to launder money.”

Those are both the sort of ideals that make Republicans shiver with fear. However Hawley and Ingraham might also have been spooked by Biden’s aspirations for a world that values cooperation and the rights of everyone:

Yes, democracy is hard. We all know that. It works best with consensus and cooperation. When people and parties that might have opposing views sit down and find ways to work together, things begin to work. […] We have to stand for justice and the rule of law, for free speech, free assembly, a free press, freedom of religion, and for all the inherent human rights of every individual.”

It’s easy to see why Hawley was so outraged and why Fox News would provide him a platform to vent his wrath. Biden’s words extolling freedom and equal rights are anathema to Republican principles, or lack thereof. Just as the notion of free and fair elections scare the GOP, knowing as they do that the more people who vote, the more Democrats win. Trump actually said so out loud.

That’s why we are now seeing this pushback from the right to accuse Democrats of being anti-voting, history, etc. It’s all they have left. Never mind that they don’t even bother to produce an example of what they are alleging. Examples are for ethical persons with rational positions. So that leaves out Republicans on both counts.

GOOD NEWS: Trump Warns That With Mail-In Voting There Will Be No More Republicans

America’s Biggest Loser, Donald Trump, continues to whine about his personal misfortunes. He is the most pitiful, weakest excuse for a “leader” the Republican Party has ever produced. How anyone can regard this sniveling crybaby as having strength is a mystery.

Donald Trump, Vote By Mail

Not only is Trump the first president in history to be impeached twice, his single term in office resulted in Democrats winning the House, the Senate, and the presidency. He is the first president in decades to leave office with fewer people employed than when he started. He exploded the national debt by cutting taxes for corporations and the wealthy. He advanced the nuclear aspirations of both Iran and North Korea. He incited deadly riots in Washington, D.C., by insurrectionist mobs. And he presided over the loss of more than 600,000 American lives due to his negligent and incompetent mismanagement of the COVID pandemic. And now Trump has a warning for his Republican confederates:

“Republicans must take seriously the effort by Democrats to completely change America through the Reconciliation Process. Democrats are now suggesting that budget reconciliation can be used to pass Mail-In Ballot legislation as well as trying to include Amnesty in their infrastructure package.” […]

“Any effort to dictate national Mail-In Voting will be a disaster for our Country and for conservatism. There will never be a Republican elected to high office again. I urge every Republican to fight this and deny Democrats a quorum if that is what it takes to make sure that the Democrats can’t use reconciliation. Republicans must push back for the sake of our Country and, far less importantly, the sake of the Republican Party!”

Trump’s warning reeks of the impotence of a failed wannabe tyrant who is waddling down dark alleyways fantasizing about returning to his imaginary throne. But even worse, it’s a warning that most Americans would view with delight. The prospect that “There will never be a Republican elected to high office again,” is more of a reward than a threat.

The MIT Election Data and Science Lab conducted a study on recent elections and the impact of mail-in voting. They found that “The percentage of voters casting ballots by mail grew to 46 percent, more than doubling the fraction from 2016.” So mail-in voting is not only popular, but it’s popularity is growing exponentially.

What’s more, citizens who voted by mail in 2020 indicated that they are anxious to continue doing so. A staggering 88% of Democrats said that they are “very” or “somewhat” likely to vote by mail again. And 68% of Republicans said the same thing.

So Trump is pleading for the GOP to fight the most popular form of voting that contributed to the highest voter turnout in 120 years. That should go over well with voters of all stripes. The truth that every American can plainly see is that Trump and the GOP are scared witless of higher voter turnout. They have always aimed at placing obstacles to voting because they know that the more people who vote, the more Democrats win.

The last thing that Republicans want is anything that actually resembles democracy. That explains why a recent poll revealed that the tiny but noisy Cult of Trump believes that the January 6th insurrectionists were “patriots” who were “defending freedom.” However, if they think that they can parlay that insanity into future electoral victories by suppressing the vote, they are likely to be sorely disappointed.

As for Trump, he is terrified and reduced to begging Republicans to help him build a virtual wall to stop the American people from voting. He’s so terrified that he’s expressing his fears of a voting populace out loud. And it isn’t the first time. In April he said pretty much the same thing on Fox News:

Fox News Hack’s ‘Gotcha’ Question Proves He Doesn’t Know What ‘Super-Spreader’ Means

Is anyone keeping track of how many consecutive days Fox News White House correspondent, Peter Doocy, has asked a stupid question at the daily press briefing, only get humiliated by Press Secretary Jen Psaki? Doocy is nothing if not determined to make a name for himself in this competition and, to his credit, he has commanding lead.

Jen Psaki, Fox News, Peter Doocy

At Tuesday’s press briefing Doocy sought to revisit an issue that he has been clinging to for several days. It concerns the Texas Democrats who left the state to prevent Republicans from passing a draconian voter suppression bill. While in Washington, D.C. a few of them tested positive for the coronavirus (which sicko Donnie Jr thought was hilarious). Doocy, along with other Fox News shills, have been trying desperately to turn that into a scandal, despite the fact that these “breakthrough” are known to occur, and for people who are vaccinated the symptoms will likely be minimal. The facts not withstanding, Doocy entered into this exchange with Psaki (video below):

Doocy: More than 10% of the traveling party with these Texas Democrats now claim to have a breakthrough case. Is there any concern that this trip that was intended to advocate for voting rights is now a super-spreader event in Washington?
Psaki: Well, I would say that’s not a characterization we’re making from here. We certainly understand there will be breakthrough cases. Even vaccines that are incredibly effective are not foolproof. They’re not 100% effective. We’ve seen that. Here’s the good news, though. We know that these vaccines, that these individuals have been vaccinated. It means it protects from death. It protects from serious illness. It protects, for the most part, from hospitalization, so that is a good sign.

It’s pretty sad that Psaki has to give Doocy answers as if he were a child. But she wants him to understand, so it’s necessary to politely condescend. After all, in his question he demonstrates that he doesn’t even understand the words he’s using. You can hardly call a half dozen viral infections among a fully vaccinated group of people a “super-spreader” event. Does anyone recall Doocy referring to Donald Trump’s cult rallies, with thousands of unvaccinated, maskless attendees, during the peak of the pandemic, super-spreader events? Those mass encounters resulted in significant spikes in infections and hospitalizations in the locales where they took place.

The only reason that Doocy is raising this non-issue now is that he’s hoping to use it to deflect from the larger issue about voting rights that the Democrats from Texas are making. He explicitly sought to divert attention from that with his follow up question to Psaki. But Psaki would not be distracted:

Doocy: Now that COVID-19, after contact with those Democrats, has reached the White House, what is your message to these Texas Democrats?
Psaki: Our message continues to be, thanks for standing up for voting rights, and the rights for Americans to have their voices heard at the voting booth, and we appreciate their efforts in that regard.

Meanwhile, Trump himself continues to support the voter suppression bills in Texas and elsewhere. He released a statement Tuesday morning linking to an op-ed asserting that “Republicans Are Making It easier to Vote and Harder to Cheat.” But you really have to wonder who would believe that a pathological cheater like Trump cares about making it harder to cheat. This is a guy who has publicly cheated on his three wives, his charities, his golf score, his “university” students, his veterans fund, his election and reelection campaigns, his taxes, and most recently his own donors. So he’s real paragon of virtue who’s commitment to honesty can be trusted. Right?

Trump Mangles Math in Misquote From Biden’s Voting Rights Speech to Further His Big Lie

President Joe Biden went to Philadelphia Tuesday to deliver an address (video below) on the precarious state of democracy amidst the unsettled torrents of post-Trump America. He outlined what Congress and his administration need to do in order to preserve and strengthen what remains of the nation’s voting rights as Republicans seek to suppress election access and opportunity.

Donald Trump, Snake Tongue

After having lost decisively, Donald Trump has persisted in his attempts to malign America’s electoral system as corrupt and rigged to steal the election from him. It’s a campaign that is closely aligned with the aspirations of foreign enemies like Russia to undermine faith in democracy.

Contrary to his cheesy MAGA slogan, Trump really hates America and said as much earlier Tuesday in a statement calling some of the nations greatest and most iconic cities (Philadelphia, Detroit, Milwaukee, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Oakland, and Baltimore) among “the most corrupt cities in the Country.” And you can add New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle to his list. You can’t love America and hate the places where most of its citizens live.

Meanwhile, Trump and his pathetic legal team have failed utterly to make a convincing case for his election fraud fantasies. But that’s only because they haven’t been able to come up with a single shred of evidence to support their ludicrous claims. That, however, hasn’t stopped Trump from peddling the “Big Lie” at every opportunity. And today’s speech by Biden was no exception.

Trump released a statement through his spokes shill, Liz Harrington, who promptly posted it on Twitter (which Trump is not permitted to do because he was banned for repeatedly propagating lies, and for which Harrington should also be banned). Trump babbled that…

“Biden just said 150 people voted in the 2020 Presidential Election (Scam!). On the assumption that he meant 150 million people, and based on the fact that I got 75 million+++, that would mean that Biden got 75 million votes, which is 6 million votes less than what they said they got. So what is that all about? Are they already conceding 6 million votes?”

The problem with Trump’s statement is that he misquoted Biden. The actual line from the speech said that “All told, more than 150 [million] Americans of every age, every race, every background, exercised their right to vote.” Trump left out the words “more than.” Consequently, his math is completely off. With the correct quote – and also correcting Trump’s dishonest claim of “75 million+++” votes (it was actually only 74.2 million), there are no missing votes and nothing is being conceded.

Trump should be familiar with the concept of rounding off numbers considering he has done so illegally for decades to either inflate his personal wealth or lower his tax burden. So this is just another typically dishonest ploy by Trump to fudge the numbers in order to gain some personal benefit. And luckily for him, his cult followers are dumb enough to believe it.

Trump didn’t bother to comment on anything else in Biden’s speech, even though some of it was directed squarely at him. For instance, Biden went straight after Trump’s “Big Lie” by noting the unprecedented scrutiny that this election received:

“With recount after recount after recount, court case after court case, The 2020 election was the most scrutinized election ever in American history. Challenge after challenge brought to local and state election officials, state legislatures, state and federal courts, even to the United States Supreme Court not once, but twice.

“More than 80 judges, including those appointed by my predecessor, heard the arguments. In every case neither cause nor evidence was found to undermine the national achievement of administering the historic election in the face of such extraordinary challenges. Audits, recounts were conducted in Arizona, Wisconsin. In Georgia it was recounted three times.

“It’s clear. For those who challenge the results or integrity of the election, no other election has ever been held under such scrutiny or high standards. The “Big Lie” was just that – a big lie.

“The 2020 election, it’s not hyperbole to suggest, is the most examined in the fullest expression of the will of the people in the history of this nation. This should be celebrated. It’s the example of America at its best. But instead, we continue to see an example of human nature at its worst. Something darker, more sinister.

“In America if you lose, you accept the results. We follow the Constitution. You try again. You don’t call facts “fake” and then try to bring down the American experiment just because you’re unhappy. That’s not statesmanship. That’s not statesmanship, it’s selfishness.”

Biden was actually going pretty easy on Trump. Trump’s reckless, incendiary, and brazenly un-American behavior is certainly not statesmanship. But it’s closer to treason than mere selfishness. A better example of patriotism would be for Congress to pass the “For the People Act,” and the “John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act,” as Biden implored them to do in his speech. And every America should do the same by contacting their senators and letting them how crucial this is to our country’s future.

Fox News Gets Exclusive Access to Voter Suppression Bill Signing By Florida Governor

In what can only be described as a submission to state TV politics, Florida governor Ron DeSantis held a bill signing ceremony where he denied access to every media organization – except for Fox News. Even the local station that was designated as the pool representative was refused entry.

Donald Trump, Ron DeSantis

This is the sort of journalistic atrocity that would be expected in a third world dictatorship or a Donald Trump administration. As the Tampa Bay Times reported

“When Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a new bill this morning to change the future of mail-in voting in Florida, the only television cameras allowed to capture the moment belonged to Fox News.

“Outside, reporters and videographers from local news outlet were told the ceremonial bill signing was an ‘exclusive’ for Fox & Friends, the conservative network’s morning show. DeSantis confirmed as much later in the day.”

This was a public event paid for by taxpayers. But DeSantis turned it into a totalitarian style propaganda affair covered only by approved state media. It assured that the only people who would be able to see this farce were Fox News viewers who, ironically, would be the primary beneficiaries of a bill that suppressed voting by low income and minority voters. Anyone who didn’t have cable, or who chose to watch actual news networks, were shut out. And to make matters worse, the whole idea was DeSantis’ alone. In a statement to the Tampa Bay Times, Fox News said that…

“Fox never asked for the special treatment. In a statement to the Tampa Bay Times, the network said, ‘FOX & Friends did not request or mandate that the May 6th event and interview with Gov. Ron DeSantis be exclusive to FOX News Media entities.'”

The bill itself is another initiative to make voting more difficult, similar to bills passed in Georgia and Texas. DeSantis held up a placard detailing what he said the bill would accomplish, including common Republican strawman issues like enforcing voter ID, banning ballot harvesting, prohibiting mass mailing of ballots, increasing election transparency, and prohibiting private money from running elections. None of these activities were identified as having caused any problems in any past election.

What DeSantis left out was that the bill also provided for restricting mail-in ballot drop boxes, making it harder to vote by mail, forcing people to request mail-in ballots every two years, criminalizing giving food or water to voters in line, and expanding partisan challenges to vote counting.

When asked why he restricted news coverage to Fox News, DeSantis dodged the question, saying only that it was “a wonderful bill signing […] on Fox and Friends and we were happy to give them the exclusive on that.” But granting exclusive coverage to a public event is a brazen assault on democracy. And it only confirms that DeSantis was afraid of the broader Florida population finding out just how deceitful and despicable he and the Republican Party are.

HUH? Fox News Hack and GOP Senator Say Corporations are ‘Kind of Scary’

The hypocrisy of the Republican Party is a remarkably resilient toxin that has infected the American body politic. They have abandoned any sense of reason or rationality. And if they have to contradict even their longest held “principles” (to the extent they exist) in order to sustain whatever outrage they are peddling, they’ll do it in a flash.

Fox News, Censorship

The GOP has always had an affinity for big business and the wealthy elitists who reign over it. But now they are experiencing a sea change due to events in Georgia and Texas and some other red states that are drafting and passing legislation aimed at suppressing the votes of Democrats in general, and people of color in particular.

This trend began when Georgia passed a series of suppressive bills that reduced ballot access, made voting by mail more difficult, and even criminalized giving water to voters waiting in line. Subsequently, some companies in Georgia responded to the protests of their customers by renouncing the anti-voting bills. Major League Baseball moved their All-Star Game from Atlanta to Denver. And Delta Airlines, Coca-Cola, and others let the GOP politicians in Georgia know that there would be consequences, including cutting off campaign donations.

This corporate revolt has spread as similar bills spread to other states. And now the corporate world’s best friend, the Republican Party, is shocked and appalled and ready to strike back. They have even threatened to revoke the preferential tax codes that the GOP had previously given them (Oh no, not that!). The GOP Minority Leader in the Senate, Mitch McConnell, has called for corporations to get out of politics. Well, except for their financial support.

On Monday, Lisa Boothe, a Fox News contributor, expressed what has become the new mantra of the GOP with regard to their Big Business ex-allies:

Really? People like Boothe never thought it was scary when corporations shoveled funds into their campaign war chests. They never thought it was scary when those corporations spoke out against fair taxation. They never thought it was scary when corporations campaigned against reproductive rights or civil rights or environmental protection or regulations that protected the safety of food, water, or workplaces. They never thought it was scary when those corporations backed their candidacies for public office. And they certainly never think it’s scary when Fox News, itself a monstrous corporation, gets entwined in politics every minute of every day.

Boothe’s tweet was followed less than an hour later by a similar posting from the GOP Senator from Missouri, and insurrection proponent, Josh Hawley. He repeated the same message about how the corporations he once loved have turned evil:

Not to be outdone, Fox News primetime host, Laura Ingraham, devoted her entire opening segment on Monday night to a monologue demanding that “conservatives have to rethink their relationship with Big Business,” because “Corporate America has gone all-in on helping Democrats secure a permanent majority.” Right, because Democrats have always been Corporate America’s favorite party. Elaborating, Ingraham disgorged the ludicrous theory that corporations are intent on “protecting liberals’ grip on power.” “Democrats,” Ingraham babbled, “know their agenda is gonna crush working class Americans. They hate it when wages go up.” Which is why Democrats are the party fighting for a higher minimum wage and an end wage disparities due to race and gender, while Republicans steadfastly oppose that.

Hawley, Boothe, Ingraham, and the rest of these ultra-rightist hypocrites have apparently forgotten how supportive they were when corporations would “get together to plan how to control legislation” that favored the corporations and the Republican political power base. They must have forgotten about the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), a confederacy of corporate lobbyists and state legislators that work together to draft legislation on behalf of its corporate members.

For the record, what triggered Boothe and Hawley at this time is that a group of more than 100 top corporate leaders got together to discuss how they should respond to the Republican voter suppression movement and the GOP’s threats of reprisals. It’s a voluntary association driven by the reaction of the American people to the red state anti-voter initiatives. And contrary to Hawley’s reference to “oligarchy” it wasn’t started by the corporate titans, but by Prof. Jeffrey Sonnenfeld, a dean of the Yale School of Management.

Corporations will always have their own best interests at heart. But it is decidedly better for the world when they are pursuing those interests due to free market pressure placed on them by their customers, than by the greed that motivates their executives and shareholders. And it’s the fact that these recent events are marketplace-driven that is so objectionable to the Republican Party. They simply can’t stand it when the people decide to rule. They don’t like it when people rule by voting in record numbers. And they don’t like it when people convince corporations to behave like good corporate citizens.
