Why Is The Fox Nation Rooting For George Zimmerman?

For the past week a murder trial in Florida has fixated the nation and the media. This sort of thing is not unusual as the past trials of Jodie Arias, Scott Peterson, Casey Anthony, and all the way back to O.J. Simpson have proved. What is unusual is the lengths to which Fox News has gone to cheerlead for the defendant.

From the very beginning Fox has sought to portray George Zimmerman as the victim who was only acting in his own defense. At the same time, they cast Trayvon Martin as a violent thug who must have been up to no good. Take a look at the graphic editorializing Fox engaged in early on:

Fox News Racism

In reporting on the court proceedings this week, Fox continued to demonstrate their overt prejudice in favor of Zimmerman. Nearly every commentator Fox put on the air found fault with the prosecution and managed to spin the witness testimony as beneficial to the defense. And the headlines at the Fox Nation Lie Factory tell the story that Fox is desperately trying to implant in the weak minds of their viewers:

  • Zimmerman Blockbuster: Witness Saw Man With ‘Lighter Skin Color’ Getting Pummeled ‘Ground And Pound’ Style
  • ZIMMERMAN PROSECUTION WITNESS IMPLODES
  • Zimmerman ‘Elated’ at Prospect That Trayvon Fight Was Recorded
  • Prosecutors ‘Must Have Had a Stroke’ Over Detective’s Testimony
  • AP: Trayvon Martin’s Legal Troubles Reportedly Covered Up By Police
  • GRETA: THE ZIMMERMAN PROSECUTION HAS A GIANT PROBLEM
  • Travyon Martin’s Friend Grilled By Defense

This parade of pro-Zimmerman analysis is reminiscent of last year’s election analysis on Fox, where every discussion leaned heavily in favor of a Romney victory. Fox irresponsibly led their audience to believe that President Obama was irredeemably unpopular and bound for defeat. Fox would only present disreputable polls that showed Romney ahead, while ignoring all the other surveys (including their own) that forecast an Obama victory. When reality set in on election day, Team Fox and the gullible dupes who watch the network, were dumbfounded at a result for which they were entirely unprepared.

The same thing is happening now with this trial. The obvious zeal that Fox is expressing for a Zimmerman acquittal is not incidental. It fits into their mission to demonize minorities. Try to imagine what Fox’s (or the rest of the media) reaction to this case would have been if the races were reversed. Do you think Fox would be defending a black man who had shot and killed an unarmed white kid walking home with Skittles and iced tea?

Zimmerman-Martin

The consequences of Fox’s disinformation could be troublesome. If Zimmerman is convicted, the response by the racially biased viewers of Fox will be shock and awe. Just like after the election, they will be unable to grasp how a jury had concluded that Zimmerman was guilty when everything they had seen on Fox News convinced them that he was innocent and that there was no chance of a conviction. Fox appears to be priming their viewers to rise up in outrage at a verdict they never saw as even a remote possibility.

On CNN and MSNBC there has been a much more balanced presentation of the court proceedings. When the prosecution flubbed an argument, it was reported as such, even on Al Sharpton’s show, despite the clear bias of the host. When a witness contradicted a defense assertion, that was reported as well. The reason for this is that unbiased journalists do not have a stake in the outcome. Liberals, from the outset, have only wanted justice to be done. They were appropriately disturbed at the start of this affair when Zimmerman was let off without an arrest or investigation. The protests that erupted were focused on those ends, not on railroading Zimmerman into jail.

Now that the people are getting their trial, the judgment of the jury ought to be respected. But That is not the tone that Fox is advancing. The hunger for absolution on Fox is palpable. They are convinced that a black youth with no record of violence or criminal activity initiated an unprovoked attack on a conscientious neighborhood watch captain. And until the jury rules, that is the position Fox is sticking with. If that isn’t racism, then what the hell is it?

  1. On one hand you suggest the people, and I assume you, really want justice to be done – which would be nice. Then in your last paragraph, you get to your true beliefs about the incident clearly suggesting a particular point of view, much like Fox News. I do agree that Fox seems to have a clear bias toward Zimmerman – no argument there and it’s totally unmistakable – but you betray your own bias at the end – he is clearly guilty in your book. Are you looking for justice to be served – really?

    • Huh? Where did you get that from my last paragraph? It says plainly that the jury’s verdict should be respected and then laments the bias at Fox by noting the absurdity of their stance.

But setting that aside, why do you think that my complaint about Fox slanting their coverage means that I can’t express an opinion? You do understand the difference between me and a national news network, don’t you?

      • Fox portrays Zimmerman as a good guy, and MSNBC portrays Zimmerman as a bad guy. Is this shocking to you? Fox slants conservative which means gun toting homeowner who kills a man in self defense is an American Hero. MSNBC with their liberal slant turns innocent victim of gun violence into a martyr. Also prudent to mention that Zimmerman is very VISIBLY Latino.

While I agree that Fox is FULL of racists, I think their specific slant in this situation has more to do with gun control than race since they’re both minorities.

      • I have to agree with you. The last paragraph, first sentence reads “Now that the people are getting their trial, the judgment of the jury ought to be respected.” – I don’t see how that is deciding the outcome of the case.

    • So, you are suggesting that Zimmerman didn’t shoot the boy?

    • Steve in York has no idea what he’s talking about.

There’s no bias at all in the last paragraph – in fact, he specifically states “… the judgment of the jury ought to be respected.”

  2. “…MSNBC…a much more balanced…”

HAAAAHAHAHAHA! This is how ridiculous that network has become. When the prosecution’s star witness turned out to be a complete disaster (including admitting that Trayvon Martin called George Zimmerman “a creepy-ass cracker”), MSNBC actually dredged up some guests who tried to claim that “cracker” isn’t necessarily a racial term and that this witness’ testimony was a plus for the prosecution. Finally, earlier this week, reality started to set in, though; Mediaite reported that even many of MSNBC’s panel members are starting to think that the prosecution has little chance of success.

Except, of course, for Chris Matthews. He still thinks that Zimmerman is guilty. But then again, he tried to tell a Romney supporter that the Benghazi scandal “was all about the video”.

Also, many of the hosts on FNC (Sean Hannity, Kimberly Guilfoyle, etc) have said the prosecution overcharged. Translation: A manslaughter charge would have made more sense than murder 2.

    • You do realize the when Trayvon said “creepy ass cracker” that this was a comment made to his friend on the phone because he was being creepily followed? You do realize teenagers have there own slang they talk to each other with? Do you have teenagers? Ever hear a conversation between them while you think you are not listening?

You do realize that Zimmerman publicly said he knew nothing about law in forcemeat or stand your ground, but then it comes out he took law enforcement classes and was an A student where stand your ground laws were covered extensively?

It’s too bad they can’t force him to testify, cause then his story would unravel. Cause gee, if anyone had a right to stand his ground it was Trayvon since he was being followed by someone creepy.

      • “..teenagers use their own slang…”

The word “cracker” has been used by non-whites as a bigoted term against white people for a long, long time. It is not a recently invented slang word.

        • STRAW MAN ALERT***
Who cares what trayvon called Zimmerman? Zimmerman initiated the whole incident. He’s a zealot and a wannabe with a gun. This is not about Traybvon martin’s ideology–this is about justice for his wrongful death. It is annoying that people are even debating this.

          • Because if Zimmerman’s recorded phone call had the word nigger in it, the naacp would flip shit.

    • A cracker does not refer to an entire race. A cracker is a specific type of white person. This is simple logic.

A brown cat is a cat. Therefore, all cats are brown.

This would be a false statement. Are you a cracker?

      • As stated previously, that does not negate the fact that the term “cracker” is bigoted.

        • true, but it’s not even close to being as bad as the n-word. ain’t no ballpark neither. equating the two is ridiculous. i’d argue that trayvon was annoyed with zimmerman at the time he said it. dude was following him. totally justified usage in my book. he’s was a kid. he should get some slack. still no justification for getting shot in the chest at close range.

          • Id hazard a guess that Trayvon was simply annoyed at that moment by a guy following him around, and used a term that is negative yes, but hardly equivalent to other racial terms. There is no evidence that trayvon was regularly exhibiting racist behavior so I suspect people are trying to read more into his use of the term than is there because they want a reason to feel that he was somehow less than an innocent teenager, doing nothing wrong, who was followed by some random guy and ended up dead at the hands of this same guy for no good reason

          • Hey I am white, and I don’t think the term ‘cracker’ is half as bad, even quarter as bad as the ‘n’ word. Why? because I have white privilege is why. I am not a minority, I am not judged on the basis of my skin colour, the world is completely slanted my way. It’s just a word to describe me as a white person, even if it is derogatory, I don’t have to live daily with judgements about my skin colour or race. I cannot stand it when privileged whites get all up in arms about the so-called racism against them. Poor privileged babies…

        • Scott says:

          7/4/2013 at 6:24 am

As stated previously, that does not negate the fact that the term “cracker” is bigoted.

So that gave Zimmerman the right to kill the kid?
The same kid he followed in order to confront?
Did Zimmerman hear Martin tell the girl on the phone that he was being stalked by some “creepy ass cracker?”

This case was botched from the get-go when the cops treated Zimmerman like he had been the victim in the altercation when the only other witness who knows what happened was lying dead on the ground because he was shot to death.
When I saw the video of the cops taking Zimmerman in for questioning and they treated him like he was a fellow cop, I felt like the fix was in at that point.

I wonder if Aaron Hernandez will claim self defense and that he was just “standing his ground?” Would he say, I drove my friend out to the boonies to politely talk to him about exchanging recipes and lo-and-behold he started acting crazy and got in my face and thank God I was armed and able to shoot him to death because I was well within my rights to stand my ground.
One big difference between Zimmerman and Hernandez is that Hernandez didn’t call 911 afterwards. Another big difference is that Hernandez hasn’t admitted that he killed the other person involved, Zimmerman has.

  3. The best theory I’ve heard: Zimmerman full of swagger (because like Doralee Rhodes, he had a gun) goes after this “suspicious” kid. Trayvon at first walks away, then turns and fights back. Zimmerman quickly feels like he’s getting his ass kicked. He pulls his gun, fires, and the recoil slams the gun into his nose (abrasion) and knocks his head into the sidewalk. Trayvon is dead, and Zimmerman concocts a story, based on his own self-inflicted injuries. Just a theory.

    • I have a “Theory” that you smoke crack and are a High School Dropout!!

  4. I listened to a legal expert speak about “overcharging”. They explained that under Florida law after the case goes to the jury they have the option of simply finding him guilty of manslaughter and throwing the murder charges out. So it standard procedure in this type case to overcharge. Hannity is simply trying to keep an exit for himself since he rushed in too quickly and became a mouthpiece for a murderer.

    • I heard that explanation, too, with one caveat: The judge has to give them that option before deliberations begin. We will see.

      • Given the circumstances Id imagine the judge likely will allow them to consider the lesser charge of manslaughter, it isnt a guarantee obviously but it would seem likely to me in a case like this

  5. It’s amusing to hear conservatives fret over black Americans not supporting the GOP yet every chance Fox News and right wing radio get they take a white contrarian position at all times when it comes to race. This week it seems I’ve read right wingers scream about Trayvon was a thug and Paula Deen is a saint. I’m sure many blacks look at these posts and wonder if your outraged by injustice or just siding with whitey simply because they are white.

    • “…and Paula Deen was a saint…”

Nobody has said that Paula Deen was a saint. They are just flummoxed at the number of companies ditching her, especially when uber-liberals like Alec Baldwin can even spit out anti-gay slurs and suffer no economic repercussions at all.

      • You must not have a FB account. I have right wingnut friends who have said Paula Deen is a saint, complete with memes. They don’t see anything wrong with using the N* word and refuse to even acknowledge her behavior that is at the root of the complaints against her. So yes, people are saying Deen is a saint.

        • And I say that you’re a Liar!! Now, if you said that Jamie Foxx called Obama “Our Lord and Savior”, THEN you’d be telling the truth!!

  6. Ultimately, the court of public opinion is entirely irrelevant to this trial. The only ‘opinion’ that matters is the jurors. We can only hope there’s no evidence in this trial that the jurors are not allowed to view. That sort of thing happens all the time.

  7. This is stretching it a bit.

I get that FoxNews is a bunch of racist thugs, but even the commentators at MSNBC have been railing against the prosecution and saying they don’t understand what they’re doing. Even they have talked about most of the FoxNews points you listed above as evidence of bias.

And quite a bit of your article reveals your own biases while pointing out theirs. I typically really like this site, but everyone in awhile (case in point) you really stretch an issue. It undermines your credibility when you actually do have a good point.

  8. 1) Fox is taking the stance they are taking because this is a right-to-carry-a-gun issue. They are so gun-philic that they don’t see how crazy it looks to thoughtful people that a 30 year old man was who was stalking a 17 year old kid –and had been told to stop pursuing him–ends up killing the young man and has any defense at all for his actions.

    2) The fact that Trayvon was not a white young man seems to be a bonus, in their view. They hate President Obama and it is their mission to portray ALL African-Americans as lazy, welfare-dependent bullies to reinforce their view. That is why only FOX/their viewers care that this kid, who instinctively knew he was in danger, told his friend about the “creepy-ass cracker.” All they care about is the slur he used, and not the “CREEPY” part. I hate all racial slurs, but I can forgive a scared kid for whatever he says.

    • EXACTLY. Fox has been trying to corner the market on paranoid white people, and this is just another vehicle to cement their stance with them.

  9. In this case, racism is secondary. Fox is representing the views of its gun industry lobby base. The primary concern is that they, like tea party politicians, are scared to death that they will lose support from their fan base if they don’t pander to every ridiculous second amendment idea that comes out of the reactionary right gun lobby universe. They will do contortions to rationalize any gun industry sponsored legislation, and they feel that Florida’s (and other state’s) “stand your ground” laws are in jeopardy, and therefore must be protected at any cost. No lie is too outrageous for this crowd, and Fox is the perfect mouthpiece for them. They are exploiting the racist angle, although they have to ignore the fact that the accused does not exactly fit their preferred ethnic profile. As for bias, both Fox and MSNBC are biased, but the comparison is not symmetric. Fox is much more liable to lie or distort because they have a specific agenda. MSNBC assiduously uses facts to support their editorializing, and generally corrects mistakes when found. While MSNBC generally practices fact checking and admission of mistakes made in research and reporting, Fox does not. Fox, in true conservative fashion, never admits to mistakes or corrects errors in reporting, and are willing to go to any lengths to rationalize their original position, no matter how tenuous it is or has become. This is calculated too, because, they know that their tea party base respects that type of “stick to your guns” attitude, and to them, their base is all that counts.

  10. Astute observation/view/article, but considering you folks profess to exist as a professional news agency, you should probably focus a but more on spelling: “If that is racism, then what the hell is it?” Shouldn’t this read, If that ISN’T racism, then what the Hell is it?

  11. That last sentence should read “If that is not racism . . .” instead of “If that is racism . . . ” Otherwise, great story. I know Faux is all about the propaganda but this makes me wonder what they want here. Do they want white people to riot over a court ruling?

  12. “Cracker” is not exactly racist, though I probably would not refer to a black “cracker.” To me it means “ignorant Southerner,” which seems to be a fair characterization of Zimmerman from what little I have seen of him. Fox is just playing a tune their audience wants to hear. It is not possible to talk to someone that thinks Fox News is legitimate news about politics because they do not understand the difference between evidence and “truth by yelling and name calling.” Someone can do an in depth survey, have it vetted by other experts and then make a statement about what people think about a certain topic, for instance and the Fox News audience does not understand that it is difference than “common sense” or “we have it on good authority.” They look at the source and if it is from a university the results are wrong because the researchers have been “brainwashed” and “are sheep that all have the same opinion.” If they hear it from any other News Source (except for certain blogs) it has a “liberal bias” and they dismiss it. They cannot be moved by evidence of any sort.

  13. The term “cracker” comes from what the slaves called the person ‘cracking the whip’ while they were being beaten. Seems an appropriate term given what Zimmerman did. None of this would have happened had he stayed in his car, as he was instructed to by the police and in his neighborhood watch training. He was overzealous, most likely because he was carrying a gun. They have said that he was on his way to the store to pick up food for his lunches on a Sunday night. Who the hell needs a gun to go to the store and pick up food?

  14. Actually, not according to the OED: The term has been used in this way (as an insult) since at least the late 1700s, before America was founded as an independent country. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, some people think it was a shortened form of “corn-cracker,” another derogatory term for poor white people that moved around a lot, worked as hired hands or sharecroppers and at mostly corn “crackers” to survive, but it’s not clear from early references whether this connection is valid or not. Another use of “cracker” given by the OED from as early as the 1500s is “liar.” — we really do not know the origin of the word for sure.

    • It is hard to know exactly what he meant, if he was saying he was white in general or was referring to him as a low class white. Certainly whites use that word to describe other whites and in that case it does not mean “whites in general.” The meaning of words varies depending on who is using them, where they are being used and other factors. For instance, as far as I can see the “n word” among blacks is not an insult but more of a term of solidarity reflecting their shared experience as second class citizens in a white society. If a white uses it referring to a black it has a completely different meaning. Basically, seeking to bolster the white person’s belief in their superior status and degrading the person being referred to. The cry that it is OK for white people to use the term because black people use it is idiotic because in a sense, they are homophones, different words that sound the same.

  15. My Grandpaw say Zimmermen a hero because fox news says it,I said Grandpaw, Zimmermen is a little coward, he only got out of car cause he had a gun.Grandpaw told me to shut up he cant hear Fox news.I hope mr.Zimmermen go to jail for a long time, and show Grandpaw what an asshole he is.

  16. This article is an example of left wing bigotry and assaults on reasonable and intelligent people who watch networks like FOX more consistently because, in the final analysis, FOX News presents FACTS and not biased distortions of truth like the writer of this article does. The facts in the Martin/Zimmerman affair are very clear to any reasonable person with an I.Q. over 80. There is nothing in the evidence presented that would refute what Zimmerman has contended all along. The “pursuer” became the “pursued”, got sucker punched, and was getting his ass kicked big time, soo much so that he feared for his life, and he pulled his weapon and shot to save himself. In the final analysis, Martin created the situation which cost him his life. He had a chance himself, assuming he really felt threatened by Zimmerman, to remove himself from the situation by running away, or by calling the police. He chose to initiate an attack against someone who HE perceived as some sort of threat against him. Trayvon was CLEARLY in the wrong, and it cost him his life! In the Civilized world, it is NOT okay to viciously attack someone because you think they may be following you!!

    • Uh, according to the 911 call, Trayvon DID try to get away, and as Zimmerman hiumself said (paraphrasing) “I’m going to follow him” and of course, the 911 operator said, “I don’t need you to do that”

Do you guys ever really even TRY to have any kind of open mind?

    • And the reason that real intelligent people like mark know that Fox News presents facts is because they write them in uppercase letters. If you say it loud enough it must be true. All that book learning stuff is just biased by left-wing, pinko college professors. It is unbiased because he says it is unbiased real loud.

  17. Zimmerman was protecting private property and did not initiate force. The kid was clearly in the wrong in the first place by trespassing; concealing his identity created suspicion, and when confronted, HE ASSAULTED Zimmerman…. When your life is being threatened, instinctual fight or flight response overcomes all rational thought….

    • Abbey: Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t Trayvon Martin going HOME to his father’s house–which was on the property that Zimmerman was, uh, “protecting”?

  18. Just WHERE and WHEN did FOX News publish the top photo you are showing? If you look at the “bottom” FOX photo in your article, it shows just the opposite of what you are arguing! The photo of smiling Trayvon on the left is very flattering and represents his true skin color. The photo of Zimmerman in an orange jumpsuit with somewhat of a scowl on his face represents the opposite. If you weren’t so caught up in your own dishonesty, you might have seen that! Your opinions are Racist and have no meaning to reasonable people, but I’m SURE your fellow Haters love your stuff!! Facts mean nothing to people like you unless they support your one-sided agenda of hatred for conservatives, who by nature are fair minded people who can see both sides of an issue. THAT IS WHY FOX IS THE NUMBER ONE MOST WATCHED CABLE NEWS CHANNEL!!

    • I’m so glad you came here to defend Fox News and Zimmerman. You go a long way toward proving my point.

Like Fox, you have prejudged the case in favor of the shooter. Like Fox, you have based your conclusions on speculation and the arguments of the defense. Like Fox, you you believe that any rebuttal to your view is an attack. I, on the other hand, have presented a well documented argument that Fox’s coverage is biased, politically and racially. There is nothing in this article that takes a position on the outcome of case other than to respect the jury’s verdict. But your response is about the case rather than the coverage.

Your idolization of Fox as an infallible presenter of facts is contrary to reality (and before you try to put words in my mouth, I don’t regard MSNBC or CNN as infallible). I have reported hundreds of examples of blatant dishonesty by Fox on this web site (I even wrote a book about it), but you undoubtedly will ignore all of that.

And as for Fox being the #1 cable news network, big deal! McDonalds is the #1 restaurant, but that doesn’t mean they serve the best food. Fox reaches about 1% of the American television audience. They still have lower ratings than the broadcast network news programs. In fact they have lower ratings than the Daily Show and SpongeBob SquarePants. So brag all you want about your beloved Fox News. They didn’t even have enough clout to sway the last two elections to the GOP, despite how hard they tried.

  19. That’s what you “get” from the evidence?!? That Trayvon was trying to get away?? How do you jump to such a wild conclusion?? Trayvon was being “followed”. After being “followed”, he decided to do something about it by confronting Zimmerman, sucker punching him, and then (by his own words trying to kill him! The fact that someone has to explain that to you would indicate that you didn’t do real well in school! In your twisted mind, Martin was “running for his life”!

  20. And MSNBC has definitely cornered the market on haters and people with very low I.Q.’s. That is not even able arguable!

  21. Martin caused his own death by assaulting Zimmerman and trying to kill him (in his own words). What don’t you “GET” about the obvious??

  22. Let me get this straight…You buy and run the domain newscorpse under the guise of chronicling media decay…but all you can see is Fox News’ bias? I hope you realize that everyone who calls you a leftist tool are factually correct.

  23. That’s the BEST you can do?? How about presenting an argument based on the FACTS, instead of presenting some baseless argument that because I capitalize FOX, somehow that makes my statement of FACTS irrelevant to you! Grow a BRAIN!!! And yes, I like to capitalize words that ARE relevant!!!

  24. Ok folks…the doctored photo is obviously the one you are calling the original. Go google images of Trayvon and see which one you think was doctored. check out the things innocent Trayvon was tweeting prior to the confrontation. Oh, and no one is decrying how the rest of the news organizations are all portraying Zimmerman as a Demon. Come on, if you want to talk Media Bias, where is the outrage over the Sarasota Murders of two white innocent tourists who wandered into the wrong area of town? Wait, thats just a killing, not a travesty huh!

    • Your opinion is total garbage! Rachel Maddow could have TEN PhD’s from ten different schools and it wouldn’t make a speck of difference in her consistent distortions, lies, and embellishments. Like I stated before, there is Egypt, Syria, North Korea, Trillion Dollar Deficits and a 17 Trillion Dollar Debt that your Lord and Savior Obama ran up. What is Maddow covering? The Governor of Virginia wearing a Rolex Watch and charging the state for his dog’s vitamins! She is pathetic and is the one who REALLY has no integrity. Hannity is just an annoying right wing attack dog, but he is only one person on Fox, as opposed to 5 at night on MSNBC! Educate yourself! All of the true hate is coming from the left!

      • Wow – “Lord and Savior Obama” – You’ve got all the wingnut, Michael Savage, BS down pat. But I’ll bet you can’t cite a single example of Maddow ever lying on her program.

        • Mark: You have no idea what I think of Obama, that is just one of the things you have been taught to say. I can easily find the same type of thing as Hannity from anyone of Fox News and I pointed you to a book that has many of them. You, on the other hand, prove your point by shouting insults and making ridiculous unsubstantiated (and untrue) claims. You need the world to be the way you believe it is and there is no possible evidence that could change you mind. You would not recognize it if you saw it. Part of your world is to dismiss evidence because it disagrees with you no matter what so by default no evidence could convince you. Have you heard of the Dunning-Kruger effect? You might look it up. You simply do not know what constitutes good evidence, it is not something you have ever learned in your life. You don’t know and you will never know because you think you already do know. You could not give me examples of logical fallacies and I am sure your common sense tells you that you do not need to waste your time with academic nonsense. You guys could come out of a cookie cutter.

          • I assume you meant this as a reply for mark lawrence, not me (News Corpse). In which…well said.

            • Yes, of course, mark lawrence. Thanks!

  25. Thanks for proving MY point! When I asked for you to back up your libel, you couldn’t do it! That’s the problem with people who “think” like you; your opinions are based on the way you “feel” about things, not actual facts. Pathetic! I would debate you, or anybody of your ilk, all day long on the facts, but your side of the argument would be to quickly mis-direct to meaningless assertions about who or what I “idolize”. I follow FOX News, CNN, C-SPAN, and other news outlets equally. The only “news” organization that should be shut down is MSNBC, which presents 5 hours of distortions, lies, and hate every evening! Yes, FOX has Hannity, who is an attack dog of the right, but that doesn’t compare to Sharpton, Mathews, Maddow, O’Donnell, etal!

  26. Your article is as biased AS you say Fox News is biased. Am I the only one whi sees the bias?

  27. There is a huge difference between biased and outright misrepresentations and fabrications. For instance, by the day of the election it was absolutely clear that Obama was going to win according to the best polling and statistical analysis. Nate Silver was clear about how he arrived at his conclusions and anyone that had a background in statistics could follow his arguments and see why they made sense. It had nothing to do with bias yet Fox News and conservative commentators insisted that that was what was going on. He predicted the outcome exactly correctly for every state and every Senate race correctly as well where Fox News looked like idiots not even believing the results after they came in. Media Matters has an entire books of documented falsehoods by Fox News which I am sure Fox News fans would dismiss because “Media Matters has a liberal bias.” But that is like saying you don’t believe them because they are “ugly.” It has absolutely nothing to do which whether a statement of fact they make is accurate or not. But there is no way you will comprehend that distinction because you have been told over and over that liberals are “brainwashed” and “idiots.” You retreat into your own reality because well over 90% of scientists “liberal” so you are forced to dismiss the findings of science as “liberal bias” and need to make up reality based on Fox News, blogs, talk radio and conversations with your friends. “Statistics can be manipulated” so they a never valid, I would guess. Trevor Martin had every right to be where he was and every right to defend himself from an armed maniac that was attacking him no matter what the specifics of the circumstances. What would do if you were minding your own business and someone came after you with a gun? None of us know enough about the details to really be the judge and jury so it is just talk and whatever the outcome we have to live with it. Saying the only difference between Fox “News” and other sources is “bias” is absurd.

  28. For example on June 25th, Sean Hannity: http://mediamatters.org/blog/2013/06/25/foxs-sean-hannity-lies-about-pew-poll-results/194608
And here is the actual Pew study to prove that Hannity is giving incorrect information about it: http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2013/07/01/describing-obama-bush-in-a-word/

This kind of thing has nothing to do with liberal/conservative. It is a matter of integrity. I challenge to find the same type of thing with Rachel Maddow. Hannity is a college dropout that does not understand the importance of giving correct information. Maddow has a PhD from Oxford and is highly trained in backing herself up. It is apples and oranges.

  29. Wow! What kind of drugs do you do? Or are you just plain stupid? I will debate you ANYTIME you want on the simple facts of the Zimmerman case. But people like you are sniveling little cowards when it comes to engaging someone in debating the truth! Go ahead and live in your dark and pathetic world! I am comfortable with the fact that the overwhelming majority of SUCCESSFUL people in this country are on my side. Only the low-lifes and haters such as yourself disagree with the obvious!

    • Hahaha, I love it: “on drugs, stupid, sniveling, cowards, pathetic.” And you call other people “haters?” You’re hilarious. I love it when people like you come here and humiliate yourselves.

I don’t know who you are debating, but you have already proven that your reading comprehension skills are sorely lacking. This article is not about the Zimmerman case. It’s about the coverage of the Zimmerman case. I couldn’t care less about your opinion of his guilt or innocence. Your prejudice has already been thoroughly expressed.

And as for the majority being on your side – I hope you’re enjoying that “successful” majority that has lost the last two elections. Keep on Teabagging.

    • mark lawernce. Where I live the median home price is 1.5 million dollars and the average is 2 million dollars. Unemployment is 3%. We are the best educated city in the country and many of the other top wealthiest and best educated cities in the country are here in Silicon Valley. Guess what? We are 4 to 1 for Obama and think the Tea Party is insane. So I don’t know what “successful people” you are talking about but they are sure not the ones that are driving the US technology industry. Other of the wealthiest and most successful places like Manhattan are support Obama many times over and also think the Tea Party is insane. Just get out a map and look at Blue vs. Red. The Red areas are the backwards, poverty stricken areas with religious fanatics and low education and the Blue parts are urban areas with high incomes and education levels. It could not be more clear. Why would anyone hate you? Who told you that? I am sure Mark does not hate you and I certainly don’t. I don’t hate anyone. It is pointless to hate people. And I have never called anyone a “liar” either because I only know that they made statements that were incorrect and I do not know their motives. I know that I cannot read other people’s minds so I don’t pretend that I can. You, on the other hand, seem to think you have that power in spades. Your world is closing in on you. Look at the age grouping in the polls. Young people don’t agree with you at all. The people that agree with you are old and they are dying. All your beliefs, all the world you are trying to hang onto will die off … gone … kaput … and all your screaming insults at people is just like a 2 year old balling up his fists and screaming in rage and frustration because he sees his bottle being taken away.

  30. There is no point in continuing this discussion! You obviously live in a foggy world and you have a very dim perception of what is going on in the real world. If you think things are going well in California, you have no more education than my teenage kids about what is going on! Your employee unions, unfunded public pensions, welfare programs etc., etc., is turning your state into a fiscal nightmare! You come at me with your incoherent and disjointed argument and seem to be pretty proud of yourself in “putting me in my place”! Like most democrats, you obviously understand NOTHING about the economy! No doubt you have no idea what a Trillion is, what deficit spending is, what will happen when the rest of the world dumps the dollar as the world reserve currency, etc., etc., etc.,! Go ahead and wallow in your ignorance!

    • I agree that there is no point in continuing this discussion. You are completely ignorant of facts and are consumed with right-wing bullshit.

FYI: California is well on the way to recovery. They just passed a balanced budget, and everything from employment to the housing market are growing faster than the national average.

FYI: The economy has performed better under Democratic administrations than Republican as measured by corporate profits, GDP growth, and stock market performance (note: that’s an article on Fox Business). What’s more deficits have declined more under Democratic administrations, including the current one.

      Try some facts, Teabagger.

      • Mark, they all say the exact same things. You are right, we do have a balanced budget, we understand the problems and are negotiating with the unions to work it out. We will work it out. Californians voluntarily raised their taxes by a large margin while the teabagger idiots screamed. Again, unemployment in this part of California, Silicon Valley, where something like 1/5 of the biggest high tech companies in the whole country are, people are expanding like crazy and we don’t have room to put all the people that are trying to move here. California still provides 13% of the US GDP of the US, by far the most of any state. California is a big state and the part where I live barely had a recession at all. Unfortunately, we have some pockets of real whackos as well. Darrell Issa is one of the craziest people in Congress and he is from California.

It always amuses me when people like ml brag about how much they know about economics because I know if I pin him down he does not know calculus and can’t do basic economic modeling. He can’t understand the arguments for and against rational choice and has probably not even heard of them. His kind listen to a few financial planners who declare they are economists and cite fact that they made an good guess here and their as evidence that they must be experts. He will sputter that he does not need to know all that academic stuff because it is obvious yet he has no idea what “being obvious” means on a neurological level and how it does not necessarily (or usually) have any relationship to events it the world. He so completely doesn’t know that he doesn’t know that he is like a child. It is sad and that it the evil of Fox News (and TV in general – I don’t watch it at all except DVDs of good shows like the Sopranos – I don’t even own one). Simple people like ml have the illusion that they know far more than they do, become comfortable at an incredibly low level of learning and then stop learning and resist any new information.

        • Oops, I “Unemployment … is miniscule” and “good guess here and there” – there is no edit function and someone was talking to me as I wrote this 🙁

  31. Wow! What can I say to THAT? Did you read the same article I did? If you did “your” comprehension of the article is totally warped! Read the last paragraph closely, and then try to tell me that the “entire” intent of the author isn’t to demonize and convict Zimmerman!

    • Um…I am the author, Poindexter!

I think I have a pretty good idea of what my intent was. And as noted above, the last paragraph begins with a call to respect the jury’s verdict. Clearly your comprehension skills are even worse than I thought. But the entertainment value of your comments just keeps going up.

      • Mark, him claiming to know your intent is yet another example of his claim that he can read minds. It is hard to get crazier than that. I wonder if he hears voices too? He probably knows about the coming downfall of the US from a wigi board.

  32. Your last line…”If that is Racism, then what the Hell is it?”

And you’re questioning MY intellect?? And of course, y

  33. And of course, you STILL are a Liar! I asked you to provide any evidence that Fox actually posted the “doctored” photo that you said they did. You haven’t done it. You are a FRAUD!

  34. I’m glad you consider 8% “miniscule”. Good luck with “working it out!” Good luck with that massive Debt you libs have accumulated in California as well! No big deal about selling out the future generations to a Lib! I’ve always said “The Babies that aren’t killed by the Liberal’s passion for abortion, will be taxed to death later on in life by the Lib’s passion for massive overspending and debt!”

  35. So Barbara Boxer and Nancy Pelosi are good in your book, right? As far as California “balancing their budget”, I say good luck with THAT too! It’s not a balanced budget until it’s a balanced budget! It’s not a hit song until it’s a hit song! At this point it is all projections! If Brown can truly balance the budget in California, I’ll eat my hat!

  36. California is a big state, we have parts with high unemployment but here, where I live, is where the successful people, the educated people and unemployment is miniscule, about 3%. Housing prices are going through the roof. There is no real estate category of under $1 million. We have a lot of people who moved here from places like Oklahoma during the dust bowl and never bettered themselves. They live in places like Bakersfield. They are getting replaced by machines that we invent here in Silicon Valley. You couldn’t live where I live. You couldn’t make enough money because you are not educated enough and do not have the kind of skills that are necessary. We have almost zero crime. Virtually no one would even think of having a gun. Almost everyone is Democrats. We are probably 50% immigrants. My bosses boss and my best friend at work are both immigrants. You might be able to live an hour or two commute from here and work as a security guard or waiter. We need people like you too. The weather is almost perfect, never hot, never cold — 9 months of sun per year. Tonight I am going out to the main street of town which is lined with cafes with outside tables full of people of all ages and races speaking languages from all over the world enjoying the warm evening completely free of bugs. There are few fat people because people are health conscious, eat well and have ample opportunity for exercise inside and outside. After all, even though it never snows here we are only a few hours drive from some of the best ski slops in the country. Santa Cruz, one of the most famous surfing areas in the world is a 50 minute drive, and there are beautiful hiking trails through redwoods and along gorgeous coastal bluffs just a short drive away. Since Sanford University is about 1/2 mile from my house I can go to there Summer Jazz Series and the local towns close their streets for free live music so I can go out for free fun every night of the week. If I get bored with that SF is a 45 minute drive away. Gee, it would be SO nice to be successful like you loser.

  37. Oh, and BTW, I make plenty of money so I can enjoy all this.

    • Donald- You make plenty of money? I guess sucking dicks pays real well! Good for you!

      • This is the kind of comment that forces me consider whether I should delete it or leave it up as an example of the low-class stupidity of the wingnut contingent. I think I’ll leave it up because it is such a great example. Nice work.

      • Oh, gays live freely here, they don’t need to pay for it like you in the sh*thole where you live.

  38. “Never try to teach a pig to sing, it wastes time and annoys the pig”

  39. Signing out. The Fraud (Mark) that wrote the article never DID validate the fake photo he contends FOX used on air! Not surprising!

    • Getting you to “sign out” is gratifying, especially as you devolve into vulgarity. Having accomplished that, I’ll now post this link to a video of Fox News using the same pictures of Zimmerman and Martin on the air that I put into my graphic. Suck on that.

      • It is the Tea Party formula. Accuse people of loving Obama, even though Obama was never mentioned. Then say they are idiots and morons and don’t understand economics and at some point mention $17 trillion in debt. When asked actual questions about economics and it becomes obvious they don’t even know what the academic field studies they start with 4th grade vulgarity.

      • I just watched the video you linked to and no where is that picture used. Are you wearing some special type of subliminal message glasses that only allow you to see it or are you just stupid? Seeing how no such glasses exist, I am left to conclude that your just stupid.

        • Well it’s right there at the 15 second mark, so I guess that makes you the stupid one.

          • Either your a nut case or we are watching 2 separate video’s cause the supposed altered pic of Treyvon that you claim Fox News did, is not at the 15 second mark or anywhere else in that video.

  40. Is that the best you can do? By the time I was in forth grade I outgrew stuff like that. It must be sad being such a loser.

  41. Holy shit!! Looks I came to the party a little late huh? I’ll let this one go, I’m just happy to see some heavy traffic at my little newscorpse! Good article, btw.

  42. Wow. No offense Mark, I loved the article and all but the comments sectional stole the show this time. Just found this website today and I’m already loving it.

  43. In your last paragraph you contend that Fox is demonizing a young black you with no history of violence or criminal activity. Are we talking about the same Treyvon who took a swing at a school bus driver, talks about the fight he was just in, suspended from school for vandalism, suspended from school for having burglary tools and stolen jewelry in his back pack, texts pictures of himself smoking weed and of weed plants, texts pictures of himself holding a semi auto handgun and so on. That sounds like a history of violence and criminal activity to me! You must be referring to a different Treyvon. That’s the only logical conclusion I can come to.

You article is full of so much BS it’s incomprehensible as to how you get your so called facts.

  44. I keep hearing all kinds of racists saying that if the colors of Treyvon and Zimmerman were reversed, Zimmerman would fry. Really, ya think so? Google the name Roderick Scott.

  45. I looked and looked and can’t find any news source that says this. There are many blogs that claim this but no way I can find to verify this is true. I don’t want people laughing at me and saying “since you read it on the Internet, it must be true.” What is your source for this claim about Martin?

    • All you have to do is read the transcripts from his text messages and photo’s taken from his phone. It’s really not that difficult to find.

    • I looked at his text messages and there is no mention of burglary tools and no mention of a suspension for that at the trial. He got suspended for having a tiny amount of pot. Whoopdy do, where I live pot is legal. He seemed to like to talk tough to his friend but he got good grades in school and doesn’t seem much worse than most teenagers to me. Unless you can come up with a source better than someone’s blog I am going to have to not believe what you say.

      • Search “Treyvon Burglary Tools”. It’s everywhere! He was suspended from school for being in possession of Burglary tools and stolen jelwery.

I don’t give two shits if “you” think it’s not “much worse than most teenagers”. It’s a fricking crime here in Florida! He has a drug history, violent history and robbery history. He was a thug wannabe and it got him killed. Good riddance to bad trash.

The media wants you to believe that he was a innocent child who just went to get skittles and an iced tea. Well guess what… It wasn’t Iced Tea he bought! He bought “Arizona Watermelon Fruit Juice Cocktail”. Do you know what “Lean” is? It is a combination of 3 ingredients… Skittles, Arizona Watermelon Fruit Juice Cocktail and Cough Syrup. Funny how he bought 2/3 rds of the ingredients required to make Lean. Wanna take bets as to whether there was cough syrup already in his dads girlfriends house? The autopsy report shows heavy liver damage associated with Lean usage.

None of it was mentioned at the trial because the judge wouldn’t allow it!

Take 10 min’s of your time and watch this video. It has a lot of the info and pics in it so you don’t have to look so hard (rolls eyes). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ebu6Yvzs4Ls#at=259

    • What does being in the act of committing a petty theft crime have to do with it? The law says that you can only you deadly force when in witness of a “Forcible Felony” or if you have a reasonable belief that your person is in fear of “Great bodily harm or death”. This guy already had his gun out “which is illegal in Fl.” and shot an unarmed 17 year old who hadn’t even made any kind of physical contact yet.

I see how you are though. It was a black man who shot an unarmed white kid so it must be OK.

  46. Someone actually committing crime is the same as someone waling down the street with skittles? New York’s standard is much higher than Florida and the jury believed that when the people who were breaking into cars came running towards him he had a reason to fear for his life. I, personally, don’t think anyone should shoot anyone and think people who own guns in general are nuts. The main thing is that the Zimmerman trial was in Florida which is the armpit of the US (maybe Texas is worse). I would much more expect a trial to be fair in NY than Florida. I think the IQ of the whole state is not as high as the Summer temperature. They have racist voting rules, make backwards laws that have to be blocked by the US and are generally a pain-in-the neck that provides little to the US economy. Half the state will be underwater in 50 years. I think that is what bugs a lot of people, just that we are sick of the racist a*holes in the South.

    • Zimmerman didn’t shoot him for walking down the street with skittles. He shot him because he (Treyvon) punched him (Zimmerman)in the nose and then starting bashing his head into a concrete sidewalk! What part of this are you not understanding?

A jury believed that Zimmerman was in fear of his life also but yet that doesn’t sit well with you does it?

    • Oh and by the way… The racist a-holes you speak of a predominantly “Black racist a-holes”!

Blacks “in general” (as you say), An analysis of ‘single offender victimization figures’ from the FBI for 2007 finds blacks committed 433,934 crimes against whites, eight times the 55,685 whites committed against blacks. Interracial rape is almost exclusively black on white — with 14,000 assaults on white women by African Americans in 2007. Not one case of a white sexual assault on a black female was found in the FBI study.

Though blacks are outnumbered 5-to-1 in the population by whites, they commit eight times as many crimes against whites as the reverse. By those 2007 numbers, a black male was 40 times as likely to assault a white person as the reverse.

If interracial crime is the ugliest manifestation of racism, what does this tell us about where racism really resides — in America?

  47. They do not, they just get arrested more for the same crimes. Blacks do not use drugs any more than whites but in the North they are arrested at 4 times the rate of white and in the South 8 times the rate. You are so uninformed it is a waste of time talking to you. You are just a Southern racist cracker.

  48. They do not, they just get arrested more for the same crimes. Blacks do not use drugs any more than whites but in the North they are arrested at 4 times the rate of white and in the South 8 times the rate. The FBI does not compile statistics as you say, it is the Bureau of Justice. Go check instead of listing to Fox News of the Examiner. Most rape by far and most crime in within races. The idea that black men go around raping white women is just an excuse by the white women when they get caught by their husbands. The South is such a horrible place it is hard to even imagine what you people’s lives must be like.
