Tucker Carlson: US is Only Aiding Ukraine to ‘Punish Russia’ for ‘Stealing Hillary Clinton’s Coronation’

Fox News has a roster of ultra-regressive shills who provide a daily dose of diatribes that are drenched with dishonesty. But on any given day you can rely on one pundit in particular to sink below the rest and unleash the most repugnant distortions of reality and flagrant conspiracy theories contrived on the manically right-wing network. And that dishonor is bestowed upon Fox’s Senior White Nationalist, Tucker Carlson.

Hillary Clinton

Leave it to Carlson to find the scum-slathered bottom of every issue with his smug sermonizing and deliberate disregard for facts. The latest example of his Olympic-grade assholery was presented on Monday night during a segment on the Russian war in Ukraine. Carlson took his standard position in support of Russia and its genocidal dictator, Vladimir Putin.

RELATED: Fox News Senior Putin Apologist, Tucker Carlson, Pleads to Keep the Russian Dictator in Power

However, on this occasion Carlson went even further down the rabid hole with his warped analysis of why the United States is providing aid to Ukraine. And in his perverse perspective it had nothing to do with saving lives or defending a democratic ally. Carlson ranted that (video below)

“Democrats have convinced themselves Russia stole the presidency which rightfully belonged to Hillary Clinton. And they mean it when they say it. And that’s why they are taking us to war with Russia. [..] The war in Ukraine is not about saving democracy. Please.”

WHUT? Democrats are taking the U.S. to war because “Russia stole the presidency” from Hillary Clinton? That’s the sort of unique perspective that one would expect from a schizoid street preacher on meth. Carlson asserted that “We know the Biden administration doesn’t care” about the Ukrainian people or democracy and that “Many more Ukrainian civilians will die, certainly, thanks to the Biden administration’s policies.” He continued his rant saying that…

“If you wanted to save Ukraine, its people, its infrastructure, you would push for a settlement now. You would have done it two months ago. But they’re not doing that. […] Instead, the war in Ukraine is designed to cause regime change in Moscow. They want to topple the Russian government. That would be payback for the 2016 election. So this it the logical, maybe the inevitable, end stage of “Russiagate.” Now we should have seen this coming because they said it out loud years ago. Here’s Adam Schiff from two years ago predicting it, saying it. Watch this…”

Here we have Carlson unambiguously advocating for appeasement with the Russian invaders. He seriously believes that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy should negotiate with Putin – who is murdering Ukrainian civilians – to concede part of Ukraine to Russia simply because Russia demands it. And Carlson’s claim that “the war in Ukraine is designed to cause regime change in Moscow” is utterly absurd. The war was started by Russia. So is Carlson saying that Russia designed the war to cause regime change in Russia?

RELATED: Trump’s ‘Solution’ to the War in Ukraine is to Appease Russia and Quash Any Criticism of Putin

Carlson then switches gears to assert that the war is actually “payback for the 2016 election.” And his justification for that ludicrous notion comes from something he clipped from Rep. Adam Schiff’s opening remarks of the first impeachment of Donald Trump:

Schiff video: As one witness put it during our impeachment inquiry, “The United States aids Ukraine and her people so that we can fight Russia over there and we don’t have to fight Russia over here.

As usual, Carlson edited that video to remove the context. Carlson is trying to portray the motivation for American aid to Ukraine as solely based on antipathy toward Russia. But in Schiff’s unedited remarks it is apparent that the concern for Ukraine was paramount:

“Trump conditioned hundreds of millions of dollars in congressionally appropriated, taxpayer-funded military assistance for the same purpose: to apply more pressure on Ukraine’s leader to announce the investigations. This military aid, which has long enjoyed strong bipartisan support, was designed to help Ukraine defend itself from the Kremlin’s aggression. More than fifteen thousand Ukrainians have died fighting Russian forces and their proxies, and the military aid was for such essentials as sniper rifles, rocket propelled grenade launchers, radar, night vision goggles and other vital support for the war effort.

Most critically, the military aid we provide Ukraine helps to protect and advance American national security interests in the region and beyond. America has an abiding interest in stemming Russian expansionism, and resisting any nation’s efforts to remake the map of Europe by dint of military force, even as we have tens of thousands of troops stationed there. Moreover, as one witness put it during our impeachment inquiry: ‘The United States aids Ukraine and her people so that they can fight Russia over there, and we don’t have to fight Russia here.'”

It’s also notable that it wasn’t just Democrats who supported aid to Ukraine. Republicans, then as now, voted to appropriate funds and military support. So that’s another reason that Carlson’s claim that Democrats plotted all of this to topple Putin doesn’t make any sense. But making sense clearly isn’t the objective of someone who claims that…

“We don’t arm Ukraine so we can help Ukrainians. They are merely unfortunate pawns in all of this. We arm Ukraine so that we can punish Russia. Why? For stealing Hillary Clinton’s coronation.”

So it’s still all about Hillary Clinton? REALLY? Notice that nowhere in Carlson’s harangue does he ever acknowledge that Russia initiated this heinous invasion against a peaceful neighbor. Or that, contrary to being pawns, Ukraine has been begging for help to fight Russia. To Carlson, just as to Trump, this is merely a negotiable difference of opinion that should be resolved by reaching a compromised settlement wherein both parties make concessions.

Never mind that it’s Putin who is the aggressor and refuses to negotiate. There is simply no way that Carlson will criticize Putin or demand that Russia cease its monstrous assault and leave Ukraine. And rather than acknowledge reality, he’s venturing even farther from it with his bizarre allegations about Hillary Clinton. Carlson is as cognitively deficient as Trump.

Trump’s Loopy Lawsuit Against Hillary Clinton and ‘Her Cohorts’ Reads Like Sleazy Pulp Fiction

What could be more predictable than Donald Trump attempting to divert attention away from whatever new self-created calamity is causing him grief? Just as news has broken about his legal tribulations, and the investigation into his role in the January 6th insurrection gets closer to issuing criminal referrals, Trump announces another of his spectacularly asinine media stunts.

Click here to Tweet this article

Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump

On Thursday Trump’s legal team revealed that they have filed a lawsuit against Hillary Clinton, and nearly fifty other people who the suit describes as “her cohorts,” in a conspiracy aimed at “destroying his life.” The list of defendants is itself a comedic exercise in extremist overreaching and includes Clinton, along with numerous Democratic operatives and FBI officials. It’s 108 pages of pure paranoid bullpucky that any reputable lawyer – or fiction author – would be embarrassed to be associated with.

RELATED: Hillary Clinton: They’re Getting Awfully Close to Actual Malice

The filing contained the obligatory inanities and misspellings that are commonly littered throughout any Trump legal document. But most prominent in this chronicle of conspiracy crackpottery are the innumerable lies and disinformation. It began with a flourish of fallacious fabrications soaked in utterly implausible melodrama:

In the run-up to the 2016 presidential election, Hillary Clinton and her cohorts orchestrated an unthinkable plot – one that shocks the conscience and is an affront to this nation’s democracy. Acting in concert, the Defendants maliciously conspired to weave a false narrative that their Republican opponent, Donald J Trump, was colluding with a hostile foreign sovereignty. The actions taken in furtherance of their scheme—falsifying evidence, deceiving law enforcement, and exploiting access to highly-sensitive data sources – are so outrageous, subversive and incendiary that even the events of Watergate pale in comparison. […]

“Defendants, blinded by political ambition, orchestrated a malicious conspiracy to disseminate patently false and injurious information about Donald J. Trump and his campaign, all in the hopes of destroying his life, his political career and rigging the 2016 Presidential Election in favor of Hillary Clinton.”

From there the filing went on to throw in every deceitful and baseless allegation Trump has peddled for more than six years. For instance…

“Special Counsel Mueller went on to exonerate Donald J. Trump and his campaign with his finding that there was no evidence of collusion with Russia.”
To the contrary, Robert Mueller explicitly stated that Trump was not exonerated and he enumerated at least ten instances of obstruction of justice.

And…

“The full extent of the Defendants’ wrongdoing has been steadily and gradually exposed by Special Counsel John Durham.”
Actually, Durham never alleged the wrongdoing that Trump implies. To date he has only addressed some tracking of publicly available Internet activity. What’s more, Durham’s reporting clearly states that the period of time that such Internet activity was being monitored was during President Obama’s term, not Trump’s.

In the 108 pages of this filing Trump referenced “Russia” 159 times. His obsession with absolving himself of any alleged “collusion” is obvious. But it is also ludicrous. A bipartisan report from the GOP-led Senate Intelligence Committee found that…

“The Trump campaign’s interactions with Russian intelligence services during the 2016 presidential election posed a “grave” counterintelligence threat […] it detailed how associates of Donald Trump had regular contact with Russians and expected to benefit from the Kremlin’s help.”

Trump’s lawsuit also makes false claims that the defendants were “hacking servers at Trump Tower, Trump’s private apartment, and, most alarmingly, the White House.” However, there is no evidence of that in the filing or reality. Although we do know that Trump asked Russia to hack Clinton’s emails, because he made that request on national television. Trump also mentioned Wikileaks in the lawsuit. Which is curious considering that the data Wikileaks made available to the Trump campaign was confirmed to have been provided by Russian hackers.

Any credible person analyzing this lawsuit cannot help but come away with the impression that it is nothing more than a deliberate distraction based on demonstrable lies. If it were made into a soap opera, it would be laughably unwatchable. The writers would be suing to have their names removed from the credits.

This lawsuit reeks of the sort of ineptitude that is the hallmark of Trump’s legal team. But if it proceeds, which is doubtful, it will offer some of the best entertainment deriving from the discovery process and Trump’s depositions. So here’s hoping that Trump is stupid enough to go forward with it.

UPDATE 9/9/2022: Trump’s ludicrous lawsuit got laughed out of court

“Trump ‘is not attempting to seek redress for any legal harm,’ [Judge] Middlebrooks said. ‘He is seeking to flaunt a two-hundred-page political manifesto outlining his grievances against those that have opposed him, and this Court is not the appropriate forum.'”

Maria Bartiromo Barks Out Bizarro Rant on Fox News About Biden Seeing Putin as a – Partner?

The gaslighting crusade of Fox News is still in full effect as they proselytize on behalf of Vladimir Putin while Russia is engaging in heinous war crimes in Ukraine. It is a mission that Fox has embraced throughout the Russian invasion of their peaceful neighbor.

Click here to Tweet this article

Fox News, Maria Bartiromo

On Sunday morning Maria Bartiromo did her part to blame – in the buzzwords of Donald Trump – America First. But what she offered was another crackpot conspiracy theory that maligned President Biden, the United States, and its allies in NATO and Europe. She began with some obviously concocted gossip about the “feelings” of what “some people” allegedly told her over the weekend…

“It seems that there is a predetermined outcome here in place. And that is a slow death to Ukraine and President Zelenskyy as the Russian forces continue to get closer. With all of these other fatalities that we’re talking about – and some people have told me over the weekend that they feel that, at the end of the day, this administration does not see Putin as the enemy, they see him as a partner on many issues. They see him as a partner on climate change. They see him as a partner on the Iran deal. When is this administration gonna get serious in telling Vladimir Putin ‘We are done with partnerships’?”

Coming from Fox News, the allegation that Biden sees Putin as a partner could not be more preposterous. The network has been championing Putin for weeks as his armies have devastated the cities of Ukraine. Bartiromo herself took the position that all the fuss about the invasion was really just a tactic to deflect from some bogus charges against Hillary Clinton:

“Was this a ruse? Was this whole thing an effort to take everybody’s attention away from what Hillary Clinton did, and what we know to be a complete hoax over this Russia investigation?”

https://twitter.com/RonFilipkowski/status/1493968337176563724

The biggest partner that Putin has is Fox’s own Tucker Carlson. He recently enumerated his reasons for why no one should hate Vladimir Putin. And he followed that up with a commentary pleading to keep Putin in power. Clips from his program are regularly replayed on Russian state TV. In fact, Mother Jones acquired memos from the Kremlin ordering them to “feature Tucker Carlson in their coverage of the #Ukraine war ‘as much as possible.'” The memos said in part that…

“It is essential to use as much as possible fragments of broadcasts of the popular Fox News host Tucker Carlson, who sharply criticizes the actions of the United States [and] NATO, their negative role in unleashing the conflict in Ukraine, [and] the defiantly provocative behavior from the leadership of the Western countries and NATO towards the Russian Federation and towards President Putin, personally.”

Likewise, Trump has been fulfilling his role as Putin’s partner. Along with efforts to weaken NATO and the EU (a primary foreign policy goal of Russia), Trump complimented Putin on his Ukraine invasion, calling it “smart,” “savvy,” and “genius.” And Trump refuses to ever criticize Putin, even after relentless coaching from Sean Hannity. Trump even literally partnered with Russia to hack the email of Clinton and the Democratic National Committee.

For his part, Biden has been so forthright in punishing Putin and his Russian oligarchs that Fox News complained that the measures were to harsh. And yet, Bartiromo now has the audacity to suggest that it’s Biden who is Putin’s best friend? Clearly the determination by Fox News to disparage Biden and badmouth America has driven them into a state of severe delusional madness. Which, for them, wasn’t a very long drive.

Hillary Clinton Hammers the Trump-Fluffing, Democracy-Hating, Radicalized Republican Party

The Republican Party in the era of Donald Trump has become a grotesque and dangerous political aberration. In its current rancid state it would be unrecognizable to members who recall even the relatively recent past when still hardcore conservatives like Bush and Reagan were its leaders.

Click here to Tweet this article

Fox News, Hillary Clinton

The Trumpists have transformed the GOP into a cult of personality wherein total obeisance to Dear Leader is mandated, and any deviation from total devotion is viewed as unforgivable disloyalty and sacrilege.

The manifestation of this amoral ministry is evident in the Party’s adoption of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin as a hallowed figure who is sanctified by Trump and favored by the Republican base over the popularly elected President Biden. Even the brutal invasion of Ukraine couldn’t pry a critical word about Putin from Trump. And Trump’s Propaganda Politburo (aka Fox News) was singing from the same hymnal. Especially Putin lover Tucker Carlson.

This decaying of a once mainstream party has not gone unnoticed. And the latest observer to raise a red flag is former Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton. In an op-ed in The Atlantic, Clinton wrote about “A State of Emergency for Democracy.” The article made the point that “Trump has always had a personal attachment to Putin.” But Clinton went further to highlight how the rot has traveled down from the fish’s head (Trump) to its body (the GOP). What follows are a few choice excerpts:

“Russian president Vladimir Putin pines for the old Russian empire and takes Ukraine’s independence as a personal affront. But the invasion of Ukraine is not a limited regional dispute between neighbors. […] Ukraine is one flash point in a larger global struggle between democracy and autocracy — one that stretches from the steppes of Eastern Europe to the waters of the Indo-Pacific to the halls of the U.S. Capitol.”

“Much has been said about the assault on American democracy by a radicalized Republican Party […] Republican leaders are abandoning core tenets of American democracy.”

“It was dismaying but not surprising that Trump praised Putin’s move to recognize and occupy separatist enclaves in Ukraine as ‘genius’ and ‘savvy.’ That’s what we have come to expect from Trump. But even Republican leaders who still take a Reaganesque view of America’s role in the world and talk a good game about deterring Russia and competing with China are undercutting those goals by aiding and abetting Trump’s attacks on America’s democratic institutions.”

“Those Republican leaders promising tough sanctions on Putin’s economy and inner circle seem helpless to tamp down the pro-Russian sentiment in their party ignited by Trump, fanned on a daily basis by Tucker Carlson on Fox News.”

Clinton was remarkably prescient about the dangers of a Trump presidency and his unsavory association with Russia and Putin. In August of 2016 she posted an article on her website that asked “5 questions every voter should ask about Donald Trump’s bizarre relationship with Russia.” Voters still need to ask those questions. However, it isn’t just voters who should be questioning Trump and his Republican confederates. The media, the Democrats, and even conscientious Republicans (the few that might be left) should be concerned about the direction the GOP has taken.

Clinton’s op-ed is a comprehensive analysis of the disintegration of the Republican Party. It’s no wonder that Trump and his cult followers are so adamant about destroying her. They recently embarked on a campaign falsely accusing her of spying on Trump. And Trump himself has suggested that Clinton should be executed for the imaginary crimes he’s accusing her of. That’s the demented leader of today’s Republican Party. And the rest of his glassy-eyed flock is faithfully following his lead.

Crybaby Trump is Scared and Lashing Out Hysterically at Hillary Clinton and NY AG Letitia James

The legal calamities that are consuming Donald Trump are continuing to pile up. He is currently under investigation by prosecutors in New York, Georgia, and Washington, D.C. This week alone he has been hit with new allegations about his carting off classified documents to Mar-a-Lago, his longtime accounting firm disavowing him and his financial reporting for the past ten years, and his having been ordered to testify in the probe of his corrupt financial affairs in New York.

Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump

As the burden of these tribulations weigh on him, Trump is responding in his typical fashion by throwing childish temper tantrums and attacking those he perceives as enemies. And first on his hit list was his perennial foe, Hillary Clinton. In a statement released by his his Twitter ban defying spokes-shill, Trump raged…

“So, Crooked Hillary Clinton, one of the most corrupt politicians ever to run for President, can break into the White House, my apartment, buildings I own, and my campaign—in other words, she can spy on a Presidential candidate and ultimately the President of the United States—and the now totally discredited Fake News Media does everything they can not to talk about it.”

Trump is still disgorging the flagrant lie that a court filing by special counsel John Durham “proved” that the Clinton camp spied on him. In fact, Durham’s filing said nothing of the sort. Even Durham refuted the misinterpretations being bandied about by Fox News and other right-wing propagandists. And nothing in his filing alleged any “break into the White House,” or any other allegation of spying. If the media isn’t talking about it, it’s because there is nothing to talk about.

That, however, hasn’t stopped Trump from talking (as if anything could). So he turned his wrath to New York Attorney General Letitia James…

“Failed Gubernatorial candidate, Letitia James, can run for the office of AG on saying absolutely horrendous and false things about Donald Trump, a man she doesn’t know and has never met, go on to get elected, and then selectively prosecute him and his family. After viewing millions of pages of documents over many years, they come up with a “Fringe Benefits” case on a car, an apartment, and on grandchildren’s education.”

Ms. James was only briefly a candidate for governor of New York. She chose, instead, not to enter the Democratic primary against the current governor, Kathy Hochul, so that she could finish the job she started as Attorney General, including the case against Trump. For some reason Trump thinks that a prosecutor needs to personally know every defendant they indict. That’s preposterous. They only have to know what crimes they committed and the evidence supporting the charges. Which the judge who ordered Trump to testify said was “copious.” And while Trump may want to trivialize the charges as “Fringe Benefits,” they actually amount to more than $2,000,000 of unreported income.

Trump’s tirade continued with his whining about being “targeted” despite his having received “more votes while in office than any President in History.” So what? First of all, there are more voters than ever before. More importantly, Biden got seven million more votes than he did. Trump also complained that his critics are just “Radical Left Democrats [who] don’t want to run again.” He failed to mention that 49% of Republicans also don’t him to run again.

Trump finished his harangue with flurry of furious assertions that he was (again) the victim of a “Witch Hunt,” whining that “I can’t get a fair hearing in New York because of the hatred of me by Judges and the judiciary.” But in the event that judges may “hate” crime family bosses and treasonous cult leaders, that doesn’t mean that they won’t get a fair trial. The truth is that what Trump is really afraid of is that he actually will get a fair trial.

Fox News Cuts Off Hillary Clinton So They Can Lie More About Spying on Trump that Never Happened

The editorial propagandists at Fox News are apparently unsatisfied with lying about President Biden’s economic successes, or whose side America should take between Ukraine and Russia, or the anti-vax Canadian trucker convoy. So they are reprising an old favorite political foil that they frequently fall back on when their other horror stories just aren’t cutting it.

Fox News, Hillary Clinton

For much of the day on Thursday, Fox News promoted a speech by Hillary Clinton at a Democratic conference in New York. They repeatedly promised to cover what the former First Lady, U.S. Senator, and Secretary of State would be saying at the event. However, when it came time to actually put Clinton on the air, Fox News played about thirty seconds of her speech before interrupting it to dump a load of bona fide bullpucky that had nothing to do with what she was saying. And by some curious coincidence, they cut her off just as she began to criticize Dear Leader Donald Trump and his Republican Apostles of Asininity:

Clinton: We must reject the ‘Big Lie’ about the 2020 election and the cover up of the insurrection on January 6th…
Martha MacCallum: Alright, Hillary Clinton hitting some familiar themes here as she gets louder at the podium there in New York City, talking about January 6th, says it was a gift to China. Talking about unity and democracy, all of that, of course, at the same time as John Durham continues the investigation into whether or not her campaign was involved in an effort to listen in to president Trump, or listen in to candidate Trump. So all of that will play out in the courtroom as that unfolds in May. But right now a lot of speculation about whether or not Hillary Clinton sees weakness in the current President. Whether or not she sees an opportunity for herself in 2024 perhaps. And is this a moment where she’s starting to put herself back on the public stage.

Notice that MacCallum (who derisively described Clinton as getting louder, even though her voice doesn’t change at all) couldn’t allow Clinton to mention Trump’s “Big Lie” about the 2020 election or the violent insurrection and coup attempt that he incited. That Foxish heresy had to be nipped in the bud. But more importantly, MacCallum blatantly lied about the “Durham Nothingburger,” a court filing containing information that was all previously reported, but that is now being misconstrued to accuse Clinton and her campaign of spying on Trump. MacCallum actually takes the lie about alleged spying farther than most of her colleagues by asserting that Clinton sought “to listen in to president Trump.”

For the record, special counsel John Durham never alleged that there was any surveillance of conversations whatsoever. His filing only addressed some tracking of publicly available Internet activity. It’s something like reporting that two phones had connected, but not having any access to anything that was said by either party. What’s more, Durham’s filing clearly states that the period of time that Internet activity was being monitored was during President Obama’s term, not Trump’s. So everything that MacCallum, and the rest of the right-wing echo chamber, have been raging about is totally bogus, as usual.

Fox’s Jesse Watters went even farther to invent a scandal that has no basis in reality. On his program Thursday he said that Durham’s documents showed that Clinton’s people not only hacked into Trump’s computers, but that they “planted evidence that he colluded with Russia. Yeah. You heard that right.” This is devolving into National Enquirer style “alien babies” idiocy.

RELATED: WTF? Giuliani Says He’s Stashed ‘Evidence’ Against Hillary Clinton in His Bedroom for Years

Finally, MacCallum felt compelled to contribute some ridiculous speculation that Clinton is plotting a return to the campaign trail, adding that her supposed ambition was because she “sees weakness” in Biden. All of that is straight out of MacCallum’s warped imagination as Clinton has not done or said anything that would suggest she was considering running again, or that she was critical of Biden. However, she did have something to say about Fox News:

“They’ve been coming after me again lately, thank you. You might have noticed. It’s funny, the more trouble Trump gets into, the wilder the charges and conspiracy theories about me seem to get. So now his accountants have fired him, and investigations drop closer to him, and right on cue, the noise machine gets turned up, doesn’t it? Fox leads the charge with accusations against me, counting on their audience to fall for it again. And as an aside, they’re getting awfully close to actual malice in their attacks.”

That reference to “actual malice” is the legal standard for establishing defamation, if she were to file a lawsuit. While Clinton is unlikely to sue Fox News, she is putting them on notice that their lies are out of bounds and could place them in legal jeopardy. Sean Hannity heard this and dared her to “bring it on.” He will sorely regret it if he actually gets his wish.

WTF? Giuliani Says He’s Stashed ‘Evidence’ Against Hillary Clinton in His Bedroom for Years

Donald Trump’s legal troubles have lately been accumulating at a rapid pace. He is currently being investigated by authorities in New York, Georgia, and Washington, D.C. And just this week there were new revelations about his mishandling (i.e. shredding and flushing) of classified documents, and his longtime accounting firm disavowing him and his financial reporting for the past ten years.

Rudy Giuliani

So this would seem like a particularly problematic time for his lawyer to be shooting off his mouth with bizarre and potentially incriminating bluster. But that’s exactly what Rudy Giuliani is doing. Giuliani was interviewed Tuesday on Newsmax where he made some awkward news. [Note: He has been banned from Fox News. Both he and Fox are being sued for spreading Trump’s “Big Lie” that the 2020 presidential election was “rigged” and “stolen”]. The segment included a discussion about the recent court filing by special counsel John Durham that the Trump-fluffing conservative press has been flagrantly distorting (i.e. lying) as “proof” that Trump was spied on by Hillary Clinton:

“I don’t think Trump knew about it back then. I can’t tell you exactly how, but I know how he knew about it back then. There’s a lot more to come out. They may feel that it’s gobbledygook, but it’s gobbledygook supported by about a thousand pieces of evidence, none of which have been revealed yet. I happen to have it in my bedroom, or my den, actually. I’ve had it there for years. As well as the fraudulent elections. Both.”

Really? First of all, Giuliani’s account of what Trump knew and when is puzzling, to say the least. He didn’t know, but he knew, and Giuliani knew that he knew, but he can’t say how. Okay.

More importantly, Giuliani is confessing that he has been hoarding “a thousand pieces of evidence” (aka gobbledygook) that he claims would support the Durham Nothingburger. It’s a cornucopia of criminal discoveries that Giuliani has kept under his bed for years.

The obvious first question, that no one on Newsmax asked, ought to be “Why have you been keeping all of this secret for so long?” If Giuliani has the goods on Clinton, you would think that he would have made it all public long ago. The same goes for whatever election fraud evidence he is also claiming to have squirreled away. For some inexplicable reason he participated in sixty court cases trying to overturn the 2020 election, but never produced his bedroom files. [Not to be confused with his scene from Borat 2]

In the same Newsmax interview, Giuliani addressed his subpoena to testify before the House Select Committee investigating the January 6th insurrection. There have been reports recently suggesting that he agreed to “fully cooperate” with Committee. However, his remarks on Newsmax seem to contradict those reports:

“How can you have any confidence in this committee which, by the way, is illegal and doesn’t have a minority membership. I feel they can’t subpoena anybody? We’re watching it in retrospect and in real time. January 6th is nothing more than Russian collusion with another name and a new lie and a new set of crazy exaggerated, ‘It’s worse than September 11. It’s worse than Pearl Harbor. It’s worse than the Civil War. It’s worse than the end of the world!’ You can tell when they’re lying. They exaggerate.”

Giuliani gets a lot wrong in that brief outburst. Needless to say, the Committee is not illegal. And it does have minority members. Two of them: Liz Cheney, the Committee’s co-chair, and Adam Kinzinger. It would have more Republicans, but GOP leader Kevin McCarthy refused to appoint any. And finally, the Committee is fully authorized to issue subpoenas.

This Newsmax interview didn’t really do Giuliani – or Trump – any good. In fact, it made the need for his testimony even more critical. The Committee will surely be interested in the evidence he claims to have stashed away all these years. If he does end up cooperating, it will drive Trump into a frenzy. But if he refuses, he will find out for himself about congressional subpoenas and contempt of Congress.

Trump Whines that the Media Didn’t Fall for the Durham Nothingburger About Clinton ‘Spying’

Donald Trump has taken a temporary leave from his obsession over having lost the 2020 presidential election to Joe Biden, a humiliation he still has not managed to get over. He is now fixated on a new obsession concerning a court filing by special counsel John Durham that Trump and his minions are misconstruing as a “bombshell” that vindicates his prior delusional allegations that the U.S. government was spying on him.

Donald Trump, Deep State

The definition of “bombshell” has been watered down here to include nonsense that has no bearing on anything. Durham’s filing didn’t contain a shred of evidence of any spying, and didn’t even make that allegation. The entirety of his claim was that information about Internet IP addresses that are publicly available were shared with Hillary Clinton’s campaign. To which the media resoundingly, and appropriately, said “So what?” The only thing of interest in the filing is that it affirmed prior reports that the IP addresses and Domain Name Servers (DNS) it referenced connected Trump’s computer communications to Russia.

On Saturday Trump went ballistic over the Durham news, falsely asserting that it provided “indisputable evidence” that he was the victim of a broad “Deep State” government cabal to spy on him led by Hillary Clinton. He went even further to advocate the death penalty for Clinton and others he accused of this imaginary crime.

However, given the utter lack of substance in Durham’s filing, the press took a pass. This triggered Trump to throw yet another tantrum over what he regards as the “fake news” ignoring “the biggest story of our time.” He released a statement (via his Twitter ban defying spokes-shill) that sobbed…

“Can you imagine that, what should be the biggest story of our time, bigger than Watergate, is getting absolutely no mention, ZERO, in the New York Times, Washington Post, ABC Fake News, NBC Fake News, CBS Fake News, ratings-dead CNN, and MSDNC.”

Yes. Anyone with moderate comprehension skills can imagine that. So naturally, Trump thinks it is “a scandal, the fact that a story so big, so powerful, and so important for the future of our Nation is getting zero coverage from LameStream.” He goes on to say that “It shows how totally corrupt and shameless the media is.” He even reprises his death wish, saying that “the electric chair would immediately come out of retirement.” But he closes with the following bizarre claim of victory…

“The good news is, everybody is talking about not only this atrocity against our Nation, but that the press refuses to even mention the major crime that took place.”

In other words, he doesn’t think he really needs the media because the story is on everyone’s lips even without any press coverage. So what’s he griping about? To the extent that this fictional story is being talked about, it is wholly due to the right-wing echo chamber that includes Fox News and Republican Trump-fluffers. Here a few of the tweets by Trump’s toadies trying to disseminate this dishonest “news”:

  • RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel: Durham’s report shows that the Trump campaign and White House were illegally spied on, paid for by the Clinton campaign.
  • Rep. Jim Jordan: They spied on Trump.
  • Brit Hume, Fox News: But good luck getting the story into the big organs of the mainstream media. So far, a blackout.
  • Rep. Elise Stefanik: Hillary Clinton must immediately be held accountable for her involvement in the biggest criminal political corruption story of our lifetime.
  • Sen. Marsha Blackburn: Evidence is out that Hillary Clinton and her campaign allegedly paid tech companies to manufacture a false narrative that Donald Trump was linked with Russia.
  • CPAC founder, Matt Schlapp: With the revelations that Trump was indeed spied on during 2016 and deep into his presidency it is time for anyone complicit in this crime resign from the Biden Administration and be charged. Jake Sullivan must step down.
  • Brian Kilmeade, Fox News: The Durham filing confirms the Clinton campaign paid to infiltrate Trump servers. @dbongino joins to react.
  • Felonious election fraudster, Dinesh D’Souza: Hillary has been caught red-handed!
  • Conspiracy crackpot, Glenn Beck: So according to the Durham probe, the Clinton campaign was not only behind the Steele Dossier and Alfa Bank hoax, but it SPIED on the Trump campaign AND White House.
  • Rep. Ronny Jackson: Hillary Clinton is the MOST corrupt politician in American history. How she spied on President Trump is CRIMINAL! This is just the tip of the iceberg too. The full truth of Hillary’s crimes have yet to be revealed. LOCK HER UP!

None of those comments can be remotely associated with reality. However, that last tweet by Ronny Jackson is especially interesting. He is Trump’s former White House “doctor” who was known for drinking on the job and loosely handing out prescriptions. And now he is calling for Clinton to be locked up even though her “crimes have yet to be revealed.”

Expect Trump to get more outrageous as the legal walls close in around him. He has never been able to restrain his most insane impulses. In this rant about the media not reporting a story that has no merit, he is demonstrating just how desperate he is for attention and approval. And the less he gets of both, the worse his meltdowns will be.

Trump Baselessly Accuses Hillary Clinton of a Capital Crime and Wishes He Could Put Her to Death

Among the most wretched of Donald Trump’s loathsome personality flaws is his rancid vengefulness and compulsion with punishing anyone he deems insufficiently loyal. He has lashed out viciously at his perceived enemies, including steadfast conservative Republicans like former VP Mike Pence and Sen. Mitch McConnell, and flagrantly biased right-wing media such as Fox News and Newsmax.

Hillary Clinton

Escalating the hysterics for which Trump is famous, on Saturday he released a statement that included his explicit yearning to see Hillary Clinton executed for alleged crimes that he utterly failed to identify or even peripherally grasp. The statement was tweeted, as usual, by his Twitter ban defying spokes-shill, Liz Harrington. It concerned a recent filing by special counsel John Durham that Trump completely misunderstood”

“The latest pleading from Special Counsel Robert Durham provides indisputable evidence that my campaign and presidency were spied on by operatives paid by the Hillary Clinton Campaign in an effort to develop a completely fabricated connection to Russia.”

Virtually all of the reporting on this filing by John Durham (not “Robert” as Trump mistakenly said) is coming from hardcore right-wing Internet trolls such as Breitbart, Infowars, RedState, and, of course, Harrington, who has tweeted about it eight nine ten twenty times since yesterday.

Trump’s assertion that the filing provides “indisputable evidence” that he was spied on is wholly fictional. Durham doesn’t even make that assertion in the filing. The gist of the document relates to allegations that an attorney who at one time represented the Clinton campaign didn’t properly disclose that relationship. The references to spying were merely the collection of Internet IP addresses and Domain Service Names (DNS) that are publicly available.

[Note: Emptywheel goes into much greater detail about this matter that she describes as Durham “raising a potential conflict as a way to air his conspiracy theories so he can jack up the frothy right.”]

More to the point, what Trump calls his “fabricated connection to Russia” is actually well documented. There is abundant evidence of the Trump campaign’s numerous unsavory connections to Russia. Much of it is catalogued in the book Russian Roulette: The Inside Story of Putin’s War on America and the Election of Donald Trump, by Michael Isikoff and David Corn. And in April of 2019, Time reported that “investigators have found that Trump and at least 17 of his campaign officials and advisors had more than 100 contacts between Trump associates and Russians.”

That’s hardly something one could characterize as coincidental. But ignoring reality, Trump continued his rant saying that…

“This is a scandal far greater in scope and magnitude than Watergate and those who were involved in and knew about this spying operation should be subject to criminal prosecution. In a stronger period of time in our country, this crime would have been punishable by death. In addition, reparations should be paid to those in our country who have been damaged by this.”

It’s a pretty safe bet that Trump has no idea what the “scope and magnitude” of Watergate was. And if he did, he would probably have supported it. Nevertheless, he is baselessly accusing Clinton and other Democrats of imaginary capital offenses. Because that’s just how vindictive and bloodthirsty he is.

The timing of Durham’s specious filing, and the feigned outrage of Trump and his media shills, is curious coming so soon after the disclosures that Trump violated the Presidential Records Act by shredding and even flushing potentially incriminating documents, and scurrying off to Mar-a-Lago with fifteen boxes of materials that legally should have been turned over to the National Archives.

However, it is thoroughly consistent with Trump’s lifelong pattern of misbehavior to try to supplant actual news with his own overblown concoctions. And the more desperate he is, the more despicable and delusional he becomes.

Did Donald Trump Just Confess to Violating the Presidential Records Act?

It’s hard to imagine that there is anyone more detrimental to Donald Trump than Donald Trump. His reckless outbursts online and at his cult rallies invariably end up exacerbating his already precarious legal jeopardy. And with the myriad civil and criminal investigations of his malfeasances in and out of office currently in progress, he is succeeding only in further incriminating himself.

Donald Trump

On Thursday Trump posted a rambling statement (via his Twitter ban defying spokes-shill) that appeared to have been at least partially drafted by attorneys attempting to distance Trump from the illegalities that threaten to drag him down. But true to form, Trump doesn’t seem to be cooperating with his legal advisors.

The statement by Trump was in response to reports that fifteen boxes of materials that Trump improperly took from the White House were retrieved from his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida by the National Archives. But his statement was rife with new controversy and even a virtual confession. It began by saying that…

“Following collaborative and respectful discussions, the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) openly and willingly arranged with President Trump for the transport of boxes that contained letters, records, newspapers, magazines, and various articles. […] The papers were given easily and without conflict and on a very friendly basis, which is different from the accounts being drawn up by the Fake News Media.”

Contrary to Trump’s characterization, there were no media accounts that portrayed the recovery of the materials from Mar-a-Lago as “conflicted.” However, his assertion that the recovery was “friendly” conflicts with virtually every encounter he’s ever had with regard to complying with demands for documents or testimony. In fact, he routinely files lawsuits to avoid cooperating.

Furthermore, his having surrendered these materials “easily” doesn’t mean that it wasn’t improper for him to have taken them to begin with. Particularly those that were classified, as is now suspected by the Archives who have asked the Department of Justice to investigate.

Trump continued his statement with a claim that…

“In actuality, I have been told I was under no obligation to give this material based on various legal rulings that have been made over the years. Crooked Hillary Clinton, as an example, deleted and acid washed 32,000 emails and never gave that to the government.”

If Trump was actually told that he “was under no obligation” to turn over these materials, then he should have proof of that. It’s not the sort of thing that is granted verbally by government agencies. But more importantly, Trump is claiming that there was legal precedent for him to remove those records from the White House. And he is using the example of Hillary Clinton as his excuse.

That’s a peculiar legal strategy considering that Trump repeatedly accused Clinton of violating the law. Therefore, he is, in effect, confessing to violating the law himself. After all, if he thought that Clinton was guilty of taking classified documents home (for which there is no evidence that she did), then surely he would have to be considered guilty as well since he’s admitting to having committed the same alleged crime. Right?

This wouldn’t be the first time that Trump publicly confessed to violating the law. Last month he released a statement in which he admitted that he participated in a conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election. And it wouldn’t be the first time that he lied about his unlawfulness either. That’s one of the reasons (along with his notoriety for failing to pay) that Trump has been unable to secure competent legal representation. What lawyer would want to represent a client who keeps blabbing about his guilt?

UPDATE: It turns out that Trump was lying about the “friendly” return of the documents. CNN reports that “people familiar with the matter described a tense situation that took nearly eight months to resolve, [and that] it may have been a threat that ended the impasse. At one point, the Archives notified a member of Trump’s team that it planned to alert Congress and the Department of Justice of the matter if it wasn’t quickly resolved.”
