Desperate Republicans Seek to Impeach President Biden Because – His Brother Repays Loans?

For the first time in history, the House of Representatives has been dormant for 17 days because Republicans are utterly incapable of competently performing their congressional duties. They have repeatedly failed to replace the Speaker that they themselves had ousted. Consequently, the critical business of the nation is going unattended due entirely to childish GOP infighting.

That unattended business includes drafting legislation to fund the government and keep it from shutting down. It also includes supporting our allies in Israel and Ukraine as they are suffering at the hands of terrorists and imperialistic aggressors. Republicans, however, may regard a crippled government as an improvement. And by their own assessment of their leadership skills, they may be right.

Among the duties that the House is neglecting during their Speaker debacle are the phony hearings ostensibly to investigate – and ultimately impeach – President Biden. While those hearings are halted like all other House business, the mouths of its MAGA members continue to wag. For instance, James Comer, chairman of the Oversight Committee, has surfaced on Fox News with “shocking” new information that he thinks will sink the Biden presidency. It concerns a check for $200,000 from James Biden to his brother Joe.

“The money came from Jim Biden where he influence peddled to a company in the United States that he went and said that he can help through his brother’s contacts get capital from the Middle East.”

Oh my! This would be catastrophic for President Biden were it not for the fact that Comer left out all of the facts that entirely undermine this alleged scandalette. In reality, Joe Biden had previously loaned James this money, and James was just paying it back. It actually says “loan repayment” on the memo line of the check. There is no evidence whatsoever of any link between the President and the company that had made a loan James. Nor is there any proof that the company benefited in any way resulting from the transaction.

What’s more, Joe Biden was a private citizen at the time. He held no office of influence, nor was he a candidate. But that didn’t stop the scandal mongers of the GOP from peddling flagrant lies about Biden and this nonexistent impropriety. They began with Comer himself, which led to a parade of perfidy…

  • Oversight Committee: “We have found a $200,000 DIRECT payment to Joe Biden. @RepJamesComer lays out the money trail.”
  • Steve Scalise: “BREAKING ? @GOPoversight has uncovered a $200,000 DIRECT payment to Joe Biden. The money trail of the Biden Family corruption scheme leads directly to Joe himself. There’s no denying it now.”
  • Lauren Boebert: “The media has spent the past two years claiming there was no actual evidence of Joe Biden’s financial wrongdoings. Yesterday, the Oversight Committee unveiled a $200,000 check James Biden wrote to his brother on the same day he received a loan from a failing company.”
  • Rudy Giuliani: “The House Oversight Committee JUST released new details on how Joe Biden received direct payments from family members.”
  • Sean Hannity (Fox News): “Joe Biden is a criminal and now we have the proof.”
  • Greg Kelly (Newsmax): “Smoking. Gun.”

Needless to say, there was no “direct” payment, no “money trail,” no “corruption scheme,” no “proof,” and no “smoking gun.” These were all deliberate distortions of reality intended to disseminate blatant disinformation and to defame President Biden.

What proof there was – the actual loan and repayment info – only served to exonerate Biden. But with the House closed for business, these dishonest propagandists felt compelled to do what they do best: lie their asses off to the eager right-wing media. And so it goes.

OH NO! Fox News Frets About Government Shutdown Because it Might Stall the Biden Impeachment

There is less than one week to go before the Republican Congress throws the U.S. government into yet another costly shutdown. In that time the GOP will likely continue debating against itself and making threats aimed at Democrats that will ultimately result in harm to the American people.

GOP House Squeaker, Kevin McCarthy, has totally lost control of his caucus, Twice he failed to advance a rule allowing the pending appropriations bills to be debated. All of the opposition is coming from within his own party, who seem to believe that a shutdown would actually be beneficial. Sure it is. So long as you don’t ask the millions of Americans who rely on services related to everything from building permits, to interstate and international travel, to financial aid, to veterans benefits, to tax information and filing, and so much more.

On Sunday morning GOP Sen. Mike Lee was interviewed on Fox News by their Senior Trump-Fluffer, Maria Bartiromo. During their chat Bartiromo and Lee expressed their deep concern as to the potential disruptions that a shutdown would cause. And in this segment they revealed what they regard as the most pertinent matter facing the nation…

Bartiromo: If we see a government shutdown does the investigation of President Biden stop? We’ve learned so much about what he and his family have been doing in the last decade.
Lee: And those allegations are very troubling. They need to be investigated. And I applaud Speaker McCarthy for launching this inquiry. I am aware of no reason, Maria, why that inquiry could not continue if the government were to shut down temporarily. There is nothing suggesting to me that Congress can’t do its work if that happens. In any event, we shouldn’t use that as an excuse unilaterally to disarm and to accede to whatever the Democrats want.

So with vital government services at risk of being curtailed, the top priority for Bartiromo and Lee is a bogus impeachment inquiry into baseless allegations against President Biden. And Bartiromo’s claim that “We’ve learned so much” about alleged Biden wrongdoing is patently false. To the contrary, every attempt to manufacture some pseudo-scandal actually resulted in proof that Biden and his administration have been extraordinarily honest and ethical.

As for Lee’s reassurance to Bartiromo that the shutdown wouldn’t impede the ill-considered inquiry, he is either placating her wingnut anxieties, or he is woefully ignorant of congressional business. While Congress can continue to operate during a shutdown, each member would make decisions as to which staffers would be considered “essential” and keep working. The others would be furloughed. And while the member would continue to be paid, none of the remaining staff would be until the shutdown was over.

What’s more, offices in other branches of government would be closed or reduced in staff during a shutdown. So any requests made by the GOP’s investigating committees would not be able to be answered. Which would, in effect, shut down their work, other than to whine about how the administration is allegedly stonewalling them.

It’s notable that Lee’s position contradicts that of McCarthy, whose post as House leader is more directly responsible for these considerations. And on this matter McCarthy made it clear that a shutdown would indeed impact any pending House investigations. As reported by Reuters…

“The looming U.S. government shutdown that some hardline Republicans, including Donald Trump, are cheering for could slow one of their other priorities: the recently launched impeachment inquiry of Democratic President Joe Biden. […] ‘If we shut down, all of government shuts it down, investigation and everything else,’ McCarthy said in an interview with Fox News.

As usual, the GOP is a cesspool of chaos and lies. And it shouldn’t surprise anyone that what worries Republicans should a shutdown occur does not seem to include the loss of critical services that Americans rely on, including housing and food programs for low-income families and seniors, learning and education assistance for students, job training and placement for veterans and the un- and under-employed.

Their only concern is that a shutdown could stall their brazenly partisan political attacks on Biden and his family. Which is further evidence – as if it were necessary – that Republicans couldn’t possibly care less about the American people. They only care about advancing their lust for profit and power. And to hell with the needs of their constituents. It’s an old story that just gets more repulsive with each retelling.

Fox News and GOP Impeachment Chair Seek ‘Damning Evidence’ Against Biden, But Can’t Find Any

It’s been eight months since Republicans assumed their razor-thin majority in the House of Representatives. And in all that time they haven’t managed to pass a single bill of any significance. That includes most of the critical appropriations bills necessary to prevent a government shutdown. They have, however, held dozens of pointless and futile hearings with the intention of staining the reputation of the President. They have even admitted their purpose early on…

On Friday Fox News Senior Trump-Fluffer, Maria Bartiromo, advanced the pitiful platform of the GOP during an interview with Jason Smith, the Republican chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee. That is one of the three committees that Speaker Kevin McCarthy just assigned to the task of conducting a bogus Biden impeachment inquiry. He joins Jim Jordan’s Judiciary Committee and James Comer’s and Oversight Committee in that purely partisan pursuit.

McCarthy had to break his promise – made just two weeks ago – to only empanel an impeachment inquiry after a vote by the full House. But he knows he doesn’t have the votes, even from his own caucus, to to get that passed. So he proceeded unilaterally.

Before the inquiries have even begun, Republicans have deployed to their positions on right-wing media to poison the public record with propaganda. And to that end, Smith appeared on Fox News with Bartiromo to engage in a revealing, and ultimately humiliating, exchange that began with this question…

Bartiromo: What I want to know is what you believe is the most damning evidence that you all have to suggest bribery – that the President was involved in bribery and money laundering. You’ve told us about the $20 million. Is it more than that? [GOP Rep] Nancy Mace told us that it could be $50 million. What were they getting paid for, and how come they set up twenty shell companies while he was Vice-President? What are these shell companies about?

Notice that Bartiromo planted her propaganda in the question with references to millions of dollars in alleged bribery and money laundering funds. She failed to mention that none of that was ever linked to President Biden, and wasn’t even illegal on the part of Hunter Biden. But Bartiromo nevertheless implies, without proof, that the money was for some nefarious purpose. And if you think that’s bad, the reply she got from Smith was even worse…

Smith: Those are all great questions that we need answers to. Unfortunately, since we released the testimony of the IRS whistleblowers, myself, Jim Jordan, Jamie Comer, have sent sixteen different investigative letters to the Biden administration asking questions and demanding answers. And the have stonewalled us this entire time. That is why we’re going to an impeachment inquiry. It’s because we need these questions answered. But guess what? Joe Biden and his administration is stopping us at every level.”

So the answer to “What is your damning evidence?” is “Those are all great questions that we need answers to.” Smith is confirming that he doesn’t have any evidence, damning or otherwise. Which means that here is no justifiable reason to hold any impeachment inquiry at all. Unless it is just to fish for potential morsels of mud that they can magnify into scandalous misconduct. That is not the mission of a congressional inquiry, which generally requires probable cause to initiate.

For the record, contrary to Smith’s complaint, the Biden administration has provided Congress with thousands of pages of documents per their requests. That includes memos, emails, and bank statements. Smith’s real problem is that there isn’t any hint of wrongdoing in any of that production. And the formation of an impeachment inquiry, without a vote by the full House, won’t have any additional authority to persecute Biden. So the best that they can hope for is to spread more rumors and lies.

When the chairman of the committee that is tasked with conducting an investigation concedes that he has nothing to warrant an investigation, you might think that the whole matter would be dropped. But not with this Republican caucus. They see this as an opportunity to cripple the President’s prospects for reelection next year. And they aren’t going to let up, no matter how much they embarrass themselves with failure.

Squeaker McCarthy Breaks His Promise to Vote on the Sham Impeachment Inquiry of President Biden

Never mind that in the prior eight months, the Republicans have failed utterly to produce a shred of evidence of any wrongdoing by Biden. It’s not for lack of trying. The GOP has held dozens of hearings in the Oversight Committee, the Judiciary Committee, and in McCarthy’s spanking new “Weaponization of Government” Committee, whose title perfectly describes what Republicans are trying to do.

In McCarthy’s address to the nation announcing the impeachment inquiry (video below), he outlined what he called “allegations of abuse of power, obstruction, and corruption [that] warrant further investigation by the House of Representatives.” However, each of the allegations he cited were made by ultra-partisan Republicans with no factual basis to back them up. In some cases they were flagrant lies and deliberate distortions of testimony given under oath by witnesses who actually affirmed that Biden had not done anything remotely illegal or even unethical. McCarthy then revealed that his inquiries…

“…would be led by Chairman James Comer of the Committee on Oversight, in coordination with Chairman Jim Jordan for Judiciary Committee, and Chairman Jason Smith on Ways and Means.”

Comer and Jordan are the very same GOP Clown Caucus leaders whose months of hysterical harassment has produced nothing but humiliation for the anti-democratic Republicans trying to impugn Biden. In the meantime, the GOP has neglected their duties to the American people. They haven’t passed a single bill of any importance, including the critical appropriations bills necessary to keep the government running. That will hamstring everything from Social Security to the military.

For the record, McCarthy’s rush to conduct a staged inquiry is a breach of his own promise to hold a vote on whether or not proceed with one. But he is being pressured by the fringiest faction of his party, including Trump, who has resorted to overt insults and threats. Less than two weeks ago McCarthy said that…

“To open an impeachment inquiry is a serious matter, and House Republicans would not take it lightly or use it for political purposes. The American people deserve to be heard on this matter through their elected representatives. That’s why, if we move forward with an impeachment inquiry, it would occur through a vote on the floor of the People’s House and not through a declaration by one person.”

And now McCarthy has ordered an inquiry “through a declaration by one person.” What makes this even worse is that McCarthy was appalled when former Speaker Nancy Pelosi floated the idea of an impeachment inquiry for Donald Trump. In response McCarthy complained that such an inquiry must not be made “by a unilateral decree of the Speaker.” He chastised Pelosi for “refus[ing] to seek approval of the whole House in this critical decision — as is longstanding practice of this body.”

Pelosi, however, did eventually bring the matter to a vote and it was agreed to by a majority of House members. McCarthy is unwilling to take that step that he was so adamantly in favor of because he knows that he doesn’t have the votes in his own caucus to get it passed. He is only making this unilateral move to conduct an inquiry because he is scared of his own party members – and as it turns out, even Trump – who are threatening his speakership post.

Consequently, we are stuck with his bogus inquiry whose only purpose is to stain Biden and the Democrats prior to the election next year. They’ll be disappointed when they learn that their impeachment attempt will fail and that such measures almost always hurt the party that engages in them.

Adam Schiff Shames the GOP for its ‘Willingness to Debase Themselves in the Service of Trump’

Consequently, Trump remains the leading candidate for the GOP’s presidential nomination. And most of the other candidates have promised to support him, even if he is convicted of any or all of the 91 felony counts currently pending against him in his four criminal indictments. They are so proud of their fealty to the Party’s mob boss that they made their devotion known on national television.

On Sunday morning Rep. Adam Schiff was interviewed by Jen Psaki on MSNBC. And he had some pertinent points to make about the Republican embrace of purposeful and depraved lawlessness. Psaki approached the discussion with a question about the GOP’s enthusiasm for shutting down the government. She specifically referenced Marjorie Taylor Greene’s utterly inane promise to halt critical federal activities – including Social Security and veterans benefits, law enforcement, financial aid for low income families, etc. – if her colleagues refuse to go along with her obsession to impeach President Biden for no discernible reason…

Psaki: Shutting the government down has implications on the public broadly. What is your reaction to her tying a government shutdown to an impeachment inquiry?
Schiff: It just shows the extreme lengths they’ll go to carry water for Donald Trump. They’ll shut down the government. They’ll do whatever they can to initiate an impeachment of Joe Biden. And part of the motivation here, of course, is to distract from Donald Trump’s multiple indictments. Part of it is to somehow try to dilute the stain of Trump’s impeachments. But the common denominator is just this unswerving, undeniable willingness to debase themselves in the service of Donald Trump. (Emphasis added).

Indeed, debasing themselves has become a routine part of today’s Republican Party. Whether they are defending the violent January 6th insurrectionists, seeking to criminalize abortion, organizing book bannings and beer boycotts, imposing racist restrictions on voting, and as always, kissing Trump’s – let’s just say ring. Schiff then continued…

Schiff: I think that many of them would like to shut down the government anyway. This will just give them further leverage to try to shut down the government, having failed to default on the nation’s credit. Many see this as the next demonstration of their commitment to god knows what. So I fear that we are on a path to government shutdown because there are enough members of the Republican conference who want it, and Kevin McCarthy will do whatever it takes to remain Speaker one more day, or one more week. That’s his sole motivation.

Clearly Kevin McCarthy and the Republican Party has given up entirely on advocating an agenda that has any appeal to the American people. They are wholly focused on slandering Biden and his family over baseless allegations for which their evidence is so thin that even some at Fox News aren’t buying it. Meanwhile they are propping up Dear Leader Trump whose crimes are well documented and mostly affirmed by other Republicans and members of Trump’s staff. All they have left is Trump worship and Biden hatred.

Democrats, on the other hand, are delivering for the American people on matters of great importance, including jobs, reducing drug and healthcare costs, restoring the nation’s infrastructure, supporting abortion rights, mitigating climate change, and defending democracy around the world. It’s a platform that broad majorities of the public support in principle. Democrats just need to better connect the dots between their popular policies and their President. Then let Republicans continue to sabotage their own electoral prospects by clinging to their abhorrent agenda and a soon-to-be convicted criminal candidate.

Trump Shows Off His Ignorance and Detachment From Reality in Rabid Rants to Impeach Biden

An obviously frantic Donald Trump is unleashing a stream of bile and belligerence in the wake of a court ruling that his trial on charges of subverting democracy and attempting to stage a violent coup is now scheduled to begin on March 4, 2024. That’s just two months later than special counsel Jack Smith requested, and two years sooner than Trump did.

Despite Judge Tanya Chutkan’s prior admonitions to Trump that he refrain from making threatening or intimidating comments directed to the court, prosecutors, or witnesses, Trump lashed out with hostile assaults at “Deranged Jack Smith & his team of Thugs” and a “Trump Hating Judge” He appears to be testing how far he can take his rancor before he is slapped with contempt and remanded to custody. By some measures he has already crossed that line.

Meanwhile, Trump is bloviating over past compulsions such as his pair of impeachments. In one comment posted on his failing social media scam, Truth Social, Trump complains about what he regards as a fundamental unfairness that he suffered as compared to his arch foe, President Biden. But, as usual, he gets everything wrong. Trump wrote that…

“I NEVER HAD AN IMPEACHMENT INQUIRY, I HAD AN IMPEACHMENT, WHICH I WON! IT WAS STARTED IMMEDIATELY, NO MEETINGS, NO STUDY, NO DELAYS. THE LUNATIC FASCHISTS & MARXISTS PLAY THE GAME DIFFERENTLY. THEY ARE OUT TO DESTROY AMERICA. MAGA!”

First of all, Trump did not “win” his impeachment against the “FASCHISTS” (sic). His impeachment by the House of Representatives – twice – is a permanent part of the historical record. That isn’t changed by the Senate not having convicted him and removing him from office. And for the record, a majority of the Senate voted for conviction, including seven Republicans. But that did not meet the two-thirds vote necessary for conviction.

Trump is also wrong about there not having been an impeachment inquiry. In fact, House Speaker nancy Pelosi did initiate an inquiry prior to the eventual vote on the House floor. As reported at the time…

“Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced Tuesday that the House of Representatives will open an impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump.”

What’s more, Pelosi’s formal announcement wasn’t even necessary because…

“[M]embers of the House Judiciary Committee said that they have already begun to consider passing articles of impeachment and that they are in an inquiry.”

In addition to these ravings, Trump posted a flagrant lie asserting that the special counsel “met with high officials at the White House just prior to these political SleazeBags Indicating me.” How dare those “SleazeBags” “indicate” Trump, whatever that means. Trump claims that those meetings are proof that “Biden and his Fascist Thugs” were engaging in “Election Interference.” Except that the truth is that Smith’s team was not colluding with the Biden administration. They were interviewing witnesses in the classified documents case who happened to be working in the White House, and were working there during Trump’s term.

And if that’s not enough malarkey from Trump, he also posted a comment asserting that…

“Biden is a Stone Cold Crook-You don’t need a long INQUIRY to prove it, it’s already proven. […] Either IMPEACH the BUM, or fade into OBLIVION. THEY DID IT TO US!”

Despite not having a shred of evidence of any wrongdoing by Biden, Trump is ready to convict him without trial. And he is threatening his Republican confederates to move forward with impeachment or be cast into “OBLIVION.” Sadly, the cowardly Republicans in the House are susceptible to Trump’s threats and all to willing to go along with Trump’s totalitarian tantrums.

Finally, Trump explicitly admits that his motivations are purely for revenge because “THEY DID IT TO US!” Although what was done (four criminal indictments on 91 felony charges) was done to him on the basis of mountains of evidence and testimony, mostly from Republicans and former Trump staffers. But the Trump cult isn’t interested in those pesky things the rest of us know as facts.

As the 2024 election season unfolds, Republicans are devoted to the issues foremost on the minds of the American people: boycotting Barbie, defending the twice impeached, twice indicted (so far), judicially confirmed rapist, Donald Trump, and impeaching Joe Biden. They have wholly abandoned the issues they ran on, such as anti-abortion laws, racist immigration policies, pandering to corporations and the wealthy, befouling the planet, and manufactured outrages against buzzwords like CRT, DEI, and “wokism.” So maybe the nation should be grateful that Republicans are too thickheaded to allow their minds to drift to matters that actually affect people’s lives.

Republicans might not even be able pass an impeachment resolution against Biden. Some of their own members are reluctant to vote for it because they are in districts that Biden won. But GOP leadership has to appease their most ultra-MAGA faction. However, the GOP’s road to Biden’s impeachment has run into a bit of a sinkhole. The Republican Ministry of Propaganda (aka Fox News) has altered the anti-Biden road map. On Wednesday’s episode of Fox and Friends, co-host Steve Doocy let some actual morsels of reality loose in the studio. During a segment about the prospect of the House impaneling a Biden impeachment inquiry, GOP House Squeaker Kevin McCarthy enumerated his feeble reasons for doing so…

“You’ve got IRS whistleblowers saying something when it comes to government treating the Bidens different. You’ve got an informant claiming that the Biden family had been bribed. Should you ignore that or should you investigate that? The only way you can investigate that is through an impeachment inquiry. So the committee would have the power to get all the documents that they would need.”

Never mind that everything McCarthy referred to is at best hearsay. Not a single bit of it has been verified. And even Doocy of Fox News recognized that, telling his “Curvy Couch” potato colleagues, and Fox’s viewers, that Republicans are pedaling disinformation…

“We’ve seen this movie a couple of times before. First step, impeachment inquiry. Almost always it leads to an impeachment. I’ve heard from members of Congress on the Republican side, they are going to, they’re going to do the ‘I’ word of Joe Biden … And they’re going to use the 1023 form as the basis for everything.

“Here’s the problem … The 1023 form makes a damning case against the Bidens, but it’s completely unverified. And in fact, there are certain critical parts of the story that have been refuted by the people in the story! So it’s problematic. So that’s why Kevin McCarthy says we need other stuff, more documents.”

Exactly! Doocy is virtually alone at Fox News in acknowledging the fact that Republicans – and everyone else at Fox News – are purposefully lying about their case against Biden. They are basing it entirely on an FBI form that is used to record raw, unverified data acquired from unnamed sources whose credibility may be suspect.

The FBI describes the FD-1023 as a document that “does not validate the information, establish its credibility, or weigh it against other information known or developed by the FBI [and that it] regularly receives information from sources with significant potential biases” In this case, the unnamed source referenced in the FD-1023 actually refutes the claims by made by Republican scandal mongers.

What’s more, McCarthy is sorely uninformed about the role of Congress with regard to impeachment. It is not Congress’ job to investigate unfounded allegations. Their role is to consider whether facts brought out by qualified law enforcement investigations rise to the level of “high crimes and misdemeanors.” Not that Republicans care about any of that. They are focused solely on maligning Biden and other Democrats.

In fact, Shadow GOP House Speaker, Marjorie Taylor Greene, has already filed motions to impeach DHS Sec. Alejandro Mayorkas, FBI Director Chris Wray, D.C. U.S. Attorney Matthew Graves, and Attorney General Merrick Garland. Before she’s through there will likely be similar resolutions for everyone from Vice-President Kamala Harris, to Commander, the White House dog. And after McCarthy pushes through the preposterous resolutions to “expunge” Trump’s impeachments, what makes them think Democrats won’t do the same for Biden when they take back the majority next year? Maybe they could even expunge Trump’s presidency.

Pelosi Skewers Squeaker McCarthy as ‘Pathetic’ for Trying to Expunge Trump’s Impeachments

The traumatic tribulations of Donald Trump continue to unfold as both his political and legal troubles escalate into the 2024 election season. Trump has already been indicted twice with a total of more than 70 felony counts of criminal conduct. And he is currently venting his anxiety over imminent new indictments related to the the January 6th insurrection that he incited.

Special counsel, Jack Smith, is said to be readying the latest batch of charges against Trump. Meanwhile, his first batch has just received a court date of May 20, 2024, which Trump had hoped would be delayed until after the next election. As would be expected of a malignant narcissist under these circumstances, Trump is grasping desperately for help from the glassy-eyed disciples of his cult that reside in Congress and the right-wing press.

Among Trump’s most devoted congressional sycophants is Republican House Squeaker, Kevin McCarthy. And true to form, McCarthy is endeavoring to rescue his Dear Leader from the legal abyss. Although it may be more accurate to say that he is trying to rescue his speakership from the wrath of Trump and his MAGA caucus in Congress. In pursuit of that fear driven goal, McCarthy promised Trump that he would schedule a floor vote to “expunge” Trump’s two impeachments.

“About a month ago, the outlandish idea started to actually gain traction: Two prominent House Republicans — GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik and Marjorie Taylor Greene — introduced parallel resolutions to ‘expunge’ the former president’s impeachments, and a few days later, McCarthy surprised many by endorsing the gambit. ‘I think it is appropriate,’ the House speaker told reporters.”

For the record, there is no constitutional provision that would support such an expungement. At best it might give Trump a fig leaf with which to pretend – contrary to reality – that he had never been impeached. And on Sunday morning former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made the same argument in a pointed way. Pelosi was asked by CNN’s Dana Bash about the matter: “You oversaw both of those impeachment proceedings. What’s your reaction to this?”

“Well, the president was impeached because we had no choice. He had undermined our national security, jeopardized our well being of our country. Kevin is playing politics. It is not even clear if he constitutionally can expunge those things. If he wants to put his members on the spot – his members in difficult races on spot – that is a decision he has to make. But this is not responsible. […]

“This is about being afraid. As I’ve said before, Donald Trump is the puppeteer and what does he do all of the time but shine the light on the strings. These people look pathetic.”

The notion that historic impeachments on the congressional record can simply be disappeared by crybaby members of a wingnut faction of the GOP is patently absurd. But it’s even worse than that. There is a fair chance that the motion to expunge won’t even pass. There are Republicans in districts that Biden won who are not anxious to relitigate these issues. In fact, several Republicans have already said that they won’t vote for it. And McCarthy has a razor-thin margin of five votes in order to succeed.

What’s more, just bringing the question to the floor means that a debate would ensue for at least several days rehashing all of the reasons that Trump was justifiably impeached to begin with. It would refresh the memories of the American people as to just how corrupt he is, at the same time that the new indictments are being revealed.

Anyone with half a brain would recognize what a terrible idea this is for Trump and the GOP. Democrats are salivating at the thought of reminding the nation that Trump is unfit for office as he’s trying to mount a campaign to win it back. However, acting on terrible ideas is pretty much the hallmark of modern Republicanism. Just take a look at what they have been doing in Congress since they assumed their bare majority earlier this year…

Shadow GOP House Speaker Marjorie Taylor Greene Announces the Party’s Ludicrous Top Priorities

In that span of time they have produce little of substance, but did manage to nearly tank the national (and global) economy by threatening to default on U.S. debt. It’s a record of shame for alleged leaders of the House that claims to be comprised of “representatives.”

They have sunk to the occasion by neglecting their duties to the American people and pursuing the one goal that is uppermost on their minds…

Now the Shadow House Speaker, Marjorie Taylor Greene, has set forth what she has determined are the top issues for Republicans in Congress. It’s a list that reveals just how unserious these political hacks are, and how unconcerned with the interests of the public that they pretend to serve. Green’s priority list consists of imbecilic impeachments, support for GOP criminals, and blatant hate and discrimination…

However, don’t dismiss Greene’s tempestuous tenacity. She has also introduced articles of impeachment for DHS Sec. Alejandro Mayorkas, FBI Director Chris Wray, D.C. U.S. Attorney Matthew Graves, and Attorney General Merrick Garland. Before she’s through there will likely be similar resolutions for everyone from Vice-President Kamala Harris, to the White House Chef.

In the meantime, Republicans have completely ignored the issues that they ran on, such as anti-abortion laws, racist immigration policies, pandering to corporations and the wealthy, befouling the planet, and manufactured outrages against buzzwords like CRT, DEI, and “wokism.” So perhaps it’s a good thing that they are too hateful and dumb to keep their minds on matters that actually affect people’s lives for more than a nanosecond.

As if to confirm their small-minded political hackery, Republicans held a vote on Lauren Boebert’s resolution to impeach Biden. [Note: Greene, who recently called Boebert a “little b*tch,” are engaged in a bitter feud to see who can smear Biden worst and most] They failed to proceed to a floor vote, but instead referred the matter to the Judiciary Committee. And to their everlasting shame, every single Republican in the House voted for that. The Committee that will now consider this atrocity is chaired by Trump-flunky, Jim Jordan. He will surely get to the bottom of that situation with reason and fairness, right?. Just like he did in a recent hearing on “Weaponization of the Federal Government.”

The effort to impeach Biden is not the only preposterous waste of time that Republicans are pursuing. Another useless and wholly political endeavor by Greene was just introduced to expunge the impeachments of Trump. Even if that passes, it won’t erase the historical record that Trump was impeached twice on solid grounds. But it will be another diversion from matters that Americans care about. Which, in the long run may have an unintended positive effect. It will drive more votes to Democrats in 2024.

Marjorie Taylor Greene Goes on Berserk Impeach Everybody Rant and Challenges Biden to a Debate

The Chairperson of the Republican’s House Crackpot Caucus, Marjorie Taylor Greene, is demonstrating again how critical she is to the Loony Fringe contingent of the GOP. And since she has no committee assignments or other pressing duties in Congress, she is free to spend all of her time on the wingnut web TV circuit promulgating hate and lies.

On Saturday morning Greene was a guest on Steve Bannon’s webcast. Bannon, who was recently convicted on two counts of contempt of Congress, invited Greene on to discuss what she regards as the top priorities of the Republican Party should it manage to take the majority in the midterm election. And what are those priorities? Well, According to Greene, “Joe Biden and his family will be a top target. And so will the CDC, the FBI, the Department of Justice, Department of Education, Homeland Security, and many other federal government entities.”

That’s right. The GOP intends to abandon their obviously phony rhetoric about inflation, crime, and immigration, in order to pursue an entirely baseless path of persecution and vengeance. Because pathological hatred is the defining characteristic of Donald Trump’s Republican Confederates. And Greene was happy to reiterate that position on Bannon’s aptly named “War Room.” Greene raged that…

“That’s how we’re going to impeach Joe Biden. That’s how we’re going to impeach Merrick Garland. That’s how we’re going to impeach Secretary Mayorkas. And I’m going to continue to call for it and push for it cause that’s what the American people want. The polling is there, Steve. It is there.”

Never mind that Greene has no rational reasons for impeaching anyone. She proved that when she filed her articles of impeachment for President Biden on the first day of his presidency. The entire bill was about Hunter Biden, and it was so preposterous that it got only one GOP cosponsor.

Perhaps Greene is upset that Biden neglects his presidential duty to tweet all day and night, and to post dozens of flattering videos of himself (as established by her messiah, Trump).

Biden himself addressed the GOP’s inbred malice saying that “I’m already being told, if they win back the House and Senate, they’re going to impeach me. I don’t know what the hell they’ll impeach me for.” Neither do they. But despite her lack of coherent cause, Greene won’t be deterred from her malicious mission. She also told Bannon that…

“If Joe Biden wants to talk to me about why I want to impeach him, or why he’s going to be impeached, why America wants him impeached, then I’d be happy to have that discussion with him on a debate stage. And I challenge him to that debate. Because I would love to bring forward the evidence, and I’d like to see him try to defend himself. He’s guilty and he’s going to be impeached.”

First of all, Biden shouldn’t and wouldn’t lower himself to debate “Empty Greene.” More to the point, twice now Greene has said that the American people want Biden to be impeached. Although she doesn’t bother to reveal where she got the deranged notion. For the record, a recent University of Massachusetts Amherst Poll found that only 34% of respondents agree with her. That’s the baked in GOP/QAnon faction of the electorate. It’s made up of 68% of Republicans and Trump voters. So there are even 32% of them who don’t think Biden should be impeached.

Greene is actually being helpful in a backhanded manner. She is illustrating superbly why it is so important that Democrats turn out to vote and that Republicans are turned out of office. The GOP is wholly fixated on revenge. They couldn’t care less about the well being of the nation or the people. In fact, they have pledged to sabotage the national (and international) economy. And if they prevail in the midterms, Greene has telegraphed precisely what that would mean for the future…
