Jen Psaki: The White House Briefing Room Can’t ‘Become a Forum for Propaganda’

President Biden’s Press Secretary, Jen Psaki, was interviewed Sunday on CNN’s Reliable Sources by Brian Stelter. It proved to be another opportunity for her to demonstrate her intelligence, grace, and commitment to candidly informing the American people about the President’s thinking and his agenda for the country.

Fox News, Jen Psaki

Not surprisingly, the right-wing mediasphere launched into their knee-jerk condemnation of both Psaki and Stelter. They either didn’t understand what they were talking about or deliberately distorted it to create a false and negative impression. Probably the latter if their past behavior is any guide.

Much of the wingnuttery was obsessed with Stelter’s first question wherein he asked “What does the press get wrong when covering Biden’s agenda?” That was construed as a “softball” question, despite the fact that a media reporter asking a subject to critique the media is hardly playing softball. Stelter also grilled Psaki on why Biden doesn’t do more press conferences. But the rightist whiners must have tuned that out.

The conservative chorus of critics was fixated exclusively on finding fault with the interview. Fox News published an analysis on their website that featured only hard-core rightist reactions to the segment. They complained that Stelter didn’t ask Psaki about manufactured, right-wing “controversies” about Dr. Fauci or the alleged border crisis. That’s because this wasn’t a newsmaking interview. It was a discussion on a media-focused program about how the White House press team interacts with the media.

Aside from being too complicated an interview for conservative flacks to handle, it went pretty well. One of the most instructive moments was when Psaki addressed how she was portrayed in the media, and what she regards as her role.

Stelter: There’s a version on the liberal blogs, something that goes like this: Psaki smacks down, Psaki shuts down a questioner. It’s this narrative we’re seeing people celebrating for doing it. And yet that kind of reminds me of cable news and the way that cable news engages. I’m not sure it’s actually good for the country, even though it might be entertaining.
Psaki: Well look Brian, I think one, I’m not putting out those assessments. What I will tell you though is that I also have a responsibility not to allow the briefing room to become a forum for propaganda or a forum for pushing forward falsehoods or inaccurate information. […] I have a responsibility to the public to make sure they’re getting accurate information. and the premise of the questions that are propaganda pushing are not giving them inaccurate information.

Psaki clearly takes the job more seriously than Trump’s former press secretary (and current Fox News host), Kayleigh McEnany, who seemed to be more interested in scoring fashion shoots. And Psaki’s remarks on Sunday were consistent with those expressed by the White House shortly after Biden’s inauguration

“White House officials promise a sea change from how the Trump White House interacted with the press. Biden’s team plans to lay out clear criteria for qualifying for a so-called ‘hard pass’ to access the grounds in consultation with the WHCA, officials told POLITICO. If current passholders in the media continue to meet the criteria determined together with the correspondents’ association, they will continue to have hard passes. […] But Biden’s aides also promised not to allow outlets to use the briefings to spread baseless conspiracies. […]

“Organizations or individuals who traffic in conspiracy theories, propaganda and lies to spread disinformation will not be tolerated, and we’ll work with the WHCA to decide how to handle those instances moving forward.”

If the White House were to strictly impose those standards, Fox News wouldn’t be granted a press pass at all. Of Course, that’s not likely to happen. But at least they recognize the importance of downplaying propaganda and focusing on the informational needs of the American public. And they aren’t maligning the press in Stalinist terms as “the enemy of the people.” That’s a profound improvement over the hostility and childishness of the Trump years.

Lying Trump Shill Kayleigh McEnany Whines About Jen Psaki Getting Better Press

For his entire public life Donald Trump was more concerned with image than achievement. It’s why his name is the most prominent feature of any of his business ventures, most of which failed. Consequently, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that the Trump administration always valued facade over substance. Their core mission was advancing pseudo-populist rhetoric, while achieving nothing of note.

Kayleigh McEnany, Donald Trump

The same is true for the Trump White House refugees in their post-presidency careers. That includes Trump’s former press secretary, Kayleigh McEnany, now a co-host of “Outnumbered” on Fox News. On Friday the program featured a segment on a subject that is uppermost in the minds of pretty much no one in America. It was reported that famed photographer Annie Leibovitz would be taking pictures for a possible magazine profile of President Biden’s press secretary, Jen Psaki.

This news was apparently too much for McEnany to handle. So when the subject arose on Outnumbered, she launched into a green-eyed rant of jealousy directed at her White House successor, lamenting what she regarded as more negative PR during her term as Trump’s fourth press flack:

“Instead of the glowing profiles, there were hit pieces repeatedly, time and time again. It’s just so sad that you have a fawning press corps like this, a fawning media sycophantically covering members of the Biden administration. They asked Jen Psaki yesterday about Joe Biden’s cat. I mean, it’s incredible the kinds of questions that they ask. […] We need investigative journalism. We don’t need fawning coverage. It doesn’t do the American people any justice.”

How true. It is indeed sad how the media – particularly Fox News, the most watched cable news network – fawns sycophantically over Trump and his cronies. They may not have asked him about his pets (Trump never had any), but they also never asked him about his failure to contain the COVID pandemic, his overt racism, sexism, and xenophobia, his personal taxes and financial corruption, his harmful policies on the economy and jobs, his antagonistic foreign relations agenda, his camaraderie with criminals, his sexual harassment and assaults, or his “Big Lie” about the 2020 presidential election being stolen.

McEnany’s whining about her own press coverage fails to take into consideration her reputation for flagrantly lying to, and like her boss, viciously insulting the press. She once told reporters that, because of Trump, the coronavirus would never come to the United States. She defended Trump’s references to “very fine people on both sides” during a protest by racists that erupted into violence. She even worked on the Trump reelection campaign while she was press secretary.

If McEnany isn’t satisfied with the coverage she got from the media she has only herself to blame. She worked for a hostile, narcissistic, pathological liar, and she supported him unflinchingly. And she isn’t doing herself any favors by whining about it on Fox News where, by the way, she is still working for a blatantly dishonest purveyor of propaganda.

R.I.P. Irony: Fox News Shill Kayleigh McEnany Slams ‘Cuomo Nepotism Network'(CNN)

Before she had even stopped working for Donald Trump, press secretary Kayleigh McEnany had already been hired by Fox News. It was an easy transition since she would be doing essentially the same job: Lying about Trump and other right-wing politicians and policies.

Kayleigh McEnany, Donald Trump

Today McEnany is a co-host of Fox’s Outnumbered where four partisan, conservative women agree fervently with a conservative male guest. On Friday’s episode they did a segment on CNN anchor, Chris Cuomo, who was reported to have given advice to his brother, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. With all of the nonsense that Fox News has tried desperately to whip up into scandals, this one actually has some basis to it. While it is understandable that brothers would talk to each other, Chris should not have directly worked with Andrew and his statehouse staff.

That said, McEnany’s outrage over the issue was another nail in the coffin of irony. Her comments demonstrated that she is utterly lacking in both self-awareness and language skills. She said that…

“I agree with [Kyle Smith] at the New York Post, who said CNN now stands for the ‘Cuomo Nepotism Network.’ It is laughable that he did not either get fired or, in the very least, disciplined because there’s a lot more to this [Washington] Post story about him advising his brother on the sexual assault allegations.”

Let’s start with the fact that McEnany doesn’t know what the word “nepotism” means. It is the practice of favoring family members in employment. Chris and Andrew Cuomo are, of course, related, but they do not work for or with each other. So there is no nepotism whatsoever by CNN.

You might think McEnany would know this having worked for Trump, who gave his daughter, Ivanka, and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, cushy White House jobs. To this day no one knows what the heck they did. Trump also hired the sons of his personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, and his Attorney General, Bill Barr. All of those hires are classical examples of nepotism. Meanwhile, her new boss, Fox News, gave the coveted position of White House correspondent to Peter Doocy, son of Fox and Friends co-host, Steve Doocy.

In addition to McEnany’s stunted vocabulary, she is also complaining about a news anchor inappropriately counseling a powerful politician. But she must know that her colleagues at her new employer, Fox News, regularly advised Trump. Sean Hannity was said to talk with Trump on the phone every night before bedtime. Tucker Carlson, Laura Ingraham, Lou Dobbs, Maria Bartiromo, and Jeanine Pirro, were also frequent advisors to Trump, and some even attended his traveling cult rallies.

The bottom line is that McEnany got everything wrong. She was wrong about accusing CNN of nepotism. And she was wrong not to notice that her old boss was guilty of it. And she was wrong to pretend that Fox News anchors weren’t far more involved with Trump on a political basis than Chris Cuomo ever was with Andrew. And she has no problem with lying about anything and everything. Which all goes to prove that Fox News knew what they were doing when they hired her. She is the perfect manifestation of everything that is wrong with Fox News.

WUT? Fox News Hypocrite Kayleigh McEnany Says ‘President Should Not Inflame Tensions’

The hypocrisy dial on Fox News has once again been turned up to eleven. On the morning of the day that a jury convicted Derek Chauvin for the death of George Floyd, talking heads on Fox News were struggling to find ways to divert attention from the trial to some contrived “offense” committed by President Joe Biden. It’s an obsession with these professional propagandists.

Kayleigh McEnany, Donald Trump

During a segment on Fox’s “Outnumbered,” their newest co-host, Kayleigh McEnany (Donald Trump’s former press secretary) took the lead in the Biden bashing. Her angle centered on remarks that Biden made regarding the Chauvin prosecution. “I’m praying the verdict is the right verdict,” Biden said, “which is — I think it’s overwhelming, in my view.”

Biden’s comments came following his phone call with members of the Floyd family, As Biden explicitly noted, he would not have commented publicly but for the fact that the jury had already been sequestered and could not be influenced. He also relayed the hopes of the family for “peace and tranquility” regardless of what the verdict was. It was a responsible and sensitive moment during a difficult time the family and the nation. McEnany, however, managed to find fault with Biden’s words

“We heard Judge Cahill go on to caution election officials and say ‘I urge you not to weigh in,’ hours before, half a day before the President himself weighed in. Look, I’m at least glad that he waited until the jury was sequestered, but I think that the country is such a tinderbox right now. Especially Minneapolis. There’s so much hurt, so much pain. And I think it’s the role of the President of the United States to stay back, to not inflame the tensions.”

Really? McEnany, who served as Trump’s White House mouthpiece, appears to be pretending that she never heard him speak. However, she was one of the most strident peddlers of the “Big Lie” that Trump was the real winner of the 2020 presidential election; that his victory was “stolen” from him; and that rampant fraud was committed by Democrats and the media. From election day until Biden’s inauguration she and Trump and most of the Republican Party and right-wing press were deliberately “inflaming the tensions” that led to the deadly Capitol insurrection on January 6th. But now she’s appalled by Biden’s compassionate comments about his conversation with the Floyd family.

It’s also notable that Trump notoriously weighed in on numerous trials wherein he lambasted everyone involved, including the judges and the juries. For instance, he went after the jury forewoman in the case that convicted Roger Stone, who Trump later pardoned. He attacked the judge in a case dealing with his fraudulent “university,” complaining that he could not possibly be unbiased because of his Mexican heritage. Trump also intervened on behalf of a Navy Seal charged with war crimes. And Trump has repeatedly attacked Supreme Court Justices. He once called for Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg to resign saying that her mind is shot.”

McEnany’s hypocrisy didn’t end there. She went on to briefly commend Biden for calling the Floyd family, but felt compelled to append praise for Trump for having allegedly done the same thing. However, in reality it wasn’t the same at all. Reports at the time reveal that Trump was less than sympathetic:

“According to Floyd’s brother, Philonise Floyd, the conversation did not go well, as he said Trump gave him little chance to express his views and appeared to have no interest in what he was trying to say.

“‘He didn’t give me an opportunity to even speak,’ Floyd told MSNBC on Saturday. ‘It was hard. I was trying to talk to him, but he just kept, like, pushing me off, like ‘I don’t want to hear what you’re talking about.’”

When McEnany acknowledges that no one has been more disparaging of the judicial process than
Trump – when she can admit that Trump was the prime instigator of the riots in Washington, D.C. – and accepts responsibility herself – then she might be able to criticize Biden. Until then she should keep her mouth shut on this subject. Her opinion is hardly credible when it comes to inflamed tensions.

Revolving Bore: Former Trump Secretary of State Mike Pompeo Joins Fox News

The relationship between Fox News and the Republican Party is an incestuous mess that repeatedly violates all standards of journalistic ethics. And now the revolving door between Fox and the defunct Donald Trump administration is spinning faster than a Hunter Biden laptop lie.

Donald Trump, Fox News, White House

Fox News has just announced Trump’s former Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo has been hired as a contributor. According to the Hollywood Reporter

“Pompeo, who will make his first appearance in his new role on the channel on Friday’s Fox & Friends, will appear across Fox News and Fox Business programming.

“In a statement Thursday, Pompeo said he intends ‘to give viewers a candid, no-nonsense look at geopolitics, international relations and the America First policies that helped chart the course for unprecedented American prosperity and security.'”

It is entirely fitting that Pompeo will debut as a talking head with the “Curvy Couch” potatoes on Trump’s favorite morning show, Fox and Friends. And his statement that Trump’s policies charted “a course for unprecedented American prosperity and security,” strikes just right tone of flagrant dishonesty to launch a budding career in nakedly biased media and propaganda. If Trump’s policies were so successful he wouldn’t have been evicted form the White House by an unprecedented majority of the American people.

However, nowhere in the announcement was it acknowledged that Pompeo is actively exploring a run for president in 2024. He has already made the requisite appearances in in the first primary state of Iowa. This hire is just another example of Fox News boosting Republican politicians. At the very least, Fox is proving to be the GOP’s jobs program for failed pols with nowhere else to go. He is joining Trump castoffs…

  • Kayleigh McEnany, the former press secretary who is now a co-host of Fox’s Outnumbered.
  • Larry Kudlow, the former economic advisor who has replaced Fox’s Lou Dobbs, who was fired in connection with the billion dollar lawsuit filed by Dominion Voting Systems.
  • Lara Trump, who, for the moment, is the wife of Eric Trump – her only qualification for the job.

Pompeo shares the distinction of being a prospective candidate with Lara Trump. She has been talking about running for the Senate in North Carolina for weeks. And another former Trump press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, has already gone from Trump’s White House to Fox News to a candidacy for governor of Arkansas.

There is no bottom to the ethical breaches by Fox News and the Republican shills they support. It is a brazenly biased confederacy of shameless dishonesty operating as a mutual benefit society for personal and political gain. Look for it to continue with other Trump/GOP fortune seekers who have been unable to find jobs anywhere else.

Lara Trump Joins Fox News Just in Time to Boost Her Campaign for the Senate

It’s not like anyone needed additional proof that Fox News is the PR division of the Republican Party, and more recently, of Donald Trump and the bootlicking political cabal that hungers for his ascension to dictator. But more proof is what we got as Lara Trump, Eric’s wife, is welcomed into the Fox News family of shameless sycophants.

Fox News, Lara Trump

The mission of Fox News has been obvious for decades. It was founded by an ultra-conservative newspaper baron (Rupert Murdoch) and GOP media consultant (Roger Ailes). And it only grew more biased and partisan as the years went by. Now they have taken another step toward total integration into the politics of authoritarian propaganda. Monday morning Ainsley Earhardt of Fox and Friends made the big announcement:

Earhardt: Let’s bring in Lara Trump, Former senior advisor for the Trump campaign and, we have a big announcement, she is a new Fox News contributor. Welcome to the family Lara.”
Trump: I’m so so excited, first of all, to be joining the Fox family. I sort of feel like I’ve been an unofficial member of the team for so long. You guys know it was kind of a joke. Over the past five years I would come there so often that the security guards were like, ‘Maybe we should just give you a key.'”

This is an especially bizarre reception with Trump admitting that her prior appearances on Fox were so numerous and affable that “it was kind of a joke.” They are conceding that she was a de facto member of the Fox “News” team even throughout the 2020 presidential campaign while she working as a senior advisor for it. A legitimate news enterprise wouldn’t think that was funny.

In addition to the flagrant skirting of journalistic ethics, it is notable that this hiring comes at a time when Trump is dangling the proposition of a senate campaign in every media appearance she makes. She recently confirmed to Sean Hannity that “Yes, I am still considering [running for the Senate]. Absolutely!”

It’s impossible to dismiss that this hiring is related to that campaign. Most news organizations wouldn’t consider bringing on someone who has been openly promoting their candidacy. Why do so for the short term unless the purpose was to publicize the candidate and boost their electoral prospects? The matter was raised in this segment with Trump affirming that…

“Fox has been very generous with me, and they have said if that’s something that you ultimately decide to do, they’re gonna work with me on that front, and make sure that everything – all the rules are followed and we do everything properly.”

So Trump has a commitment from Fox News to “work with” her as she develops her campaign plans. and she’s foolish enough to admit it on the air. That’s not surprising for someone who was caught ripping off a dog rescue charity, and whose husband (Eric Trump) stole funds from a children’s cancer charity.

Lara Trump isn’t the only member of the deposed Trump administration to join the Fox News family. Trump’s former press secretary, Kayleigh McEnany, was announced as a Fox contributor last month. And Trump’s former top economic adviser, Larry Kudlow, has replaced the creepy, Trump-fluffing, Lou Dobbs, who was fired as a stop-gap measure in response to the billion dollar defamation lawsuit filed against Fox News by the voting software company, Smartmatic.

Clearly, the revolving door between Fox News and Republican politics is still spinning wildly out of control. They have apparently abandoned any pretense to being a news network. Not they they have ever acted as one. But now the biases are not so broadly defined as GOP-centric. They are now crossing the line into Trump cult territory.

SURPRISE! Fox News Dishonestly Slams Biden’s First Presidential Press Conference

For several weeks Fox News has been incessantly complaining that Joe Biden hasn’t held his first press conference as President. Never mind that for most of his two months as President Fox News has failed to air any of Biden’s speeches, or the White House’s daily press briefings, or any other of this administration’s media events, including the COVID-19 Response Team.

Fox News, Joe Biden, Fake News

On Thursday afternoon President Biden did hold a press conference (video below). And Fox News predictably covered it with open animosity and a strident negative bias. Immediately following the press conference Fox News got right to work complaining. The first commentary out the mouth of Fox’s John Roberts was that Biden had referred to notes a couple of times. That was so he could be certain he was giving accurate data on statistics.

So Fox News was, in effect, criticizing Biden for being too prepared. Donald Trump never had to worry about that since he was lying more often than not. When you’re making up answers accuracy isn’t much of a concern. One Fox shill whined that Biden scheduled his press conference for 1:15 pm ET, rather than prime time, which he said was standard. First of all, that isn’t true. Secondly, Trump’s first press conference was 20 minutes earlier. But most of all, fox News was hurt because Biden didn’t call on their in-house shill, Peter Doocy, for a loaded question:

Biden spoke for more than an hour, providing detailed responses to a broad array of questions. The topics ranged from the economy to the pandemic to foreign policy to voting rights to immigration to gun control to the filibuster, and more. But true to form, Fox News could only find fault, even where there was none.

For instance, Sean Hannity was lying in wait (with an emphasis on the “lying’) for one of the verbal gaffes that everyone knows Biden is prone to making. Hannity ignored all of the substantive answers Biden gave without ever once insulting the reporters, whining about fake news, bragging about phony achievements, or flinging flagrant falsehoods.

Hannity’s sole observation was that Biden misspoke about his preference for a filibuster rule that was in effect when he was a senator. Biden referred to his having “come to the United States Senate 120 years ago.” He was conflating the fact that the filibuster was implemented about 120 years ago with his point about prior Senate rules. This was an unremarkable flub for a life-long stutterer, and in context his meaning was clear.

Hannity, like most of his Fox News confederates, was only concerned with whatever distortion he could manufacture that aligned with his obsession to portray Biden as mentally unfit. One his colleagues, former Trump press secretary Kayleigh McEnany, set up the press conference hours earlier asserting that Biden was “prepared to just entirely ignore whatever is asked of him, and to pivot.” That turned out to be completely wrong. But it was exactly what one would expect from a professional liar like McEnany.

Sadly, Fox News viewers will likely only see the distortions they provide and never watch the entire hour of Biden’s fully coherent, detailed, and honest address. It’s a deliberate editorial policy to malign Biden and Democrats at every opportunity. And it’s why viewers of Fox News have been documented to be even less informed than people who watch no news at all.

Fox News Obsesses Over Biden Press Conferences – That They Refuse to Air

For four years Fox News covered virtually every public utterance by Donald Trump live and uninterrupted. They aired his cult rallies, his Coronavirus Task Force briefings, his staged, photo-op bill signings, his random and rancid rants, his lie-riddled “chopper talks,” and more. The network could have been re-branded as a 24/7 Trump Channel.

Donald Trump Fox News

Now that Joe Biden is residing in the White House, Fox News has adopted an entirely different editorial approach to covering the President of the United States. And it isn’t just the blatantly negative bias against Biden that Fox’s CEO recently admitted is the core of their mission. That bias is remarkably strained because Fox has so little of substance to complain about. Consequently they focus on absurd and irrelevant distractions like Biden’s dog, Neanderthals, Mr. Potato Head, and Dr. Seuss. That’s emblematic of Fox’s editorial priorities.

Meanwhile, there has been a flurry of verbal venom aimed at Biden for his alleged reluctance to face questions from the press. However, while he hasn’t held a formal news conference, he has taken questions on numerous occasions addressing such critical and diverse subjects as containing the COVID-19 pandemic, and providing relief and stimulus; racial equity; climate change; healthcare; and immigration.

Clearly Biden has a lot on his plate following the calamitous tenure of Trump. These are matters of profound importance that need to be tackled with an appropriate sense of urgency. There will be plenty of time for press conferences once the nation’s stability and security have been restored. Jen Psaki, Biden’s press secretary, has indicated that a press conference will be scheduled before the end of March. But that hasn’t calmed the dread that is consuming Fox News. For the past few days they have demonstrated just how obsessed they are with this non-scandal as seen in these headlines:

  • Hidin’ Biden – still no presidential press conference but Dems like basement strategy
  • White House ‘protecting’ Biden by not scheduling press conferences: Karl Rove
  • Biden team ‘has zero confidence’ that ‘absentee president’ can handle press conference
  • Biden still hasn’t held a press conference after 43 days in office
  • Psaki says Biden will hold press conference ‘before the end of the month’
  • Kayleigh McEnany: Biden vowed ‘transparency’ but has still not held a solo press conference

How many times do they have to do the same story? McEnany, Trump’s fourth and final press secretary who has already been hired by Fox News, “bragged” about Trump’s availability to the press saying that “He was always willing to take questions, always willing to go to the podium, always willing to stop on his way to the helicopter.” What she left out was that Trump spent most of that time lying and insulting the reporters.

On another segment McEnany wondered “Where’s Joe? It’s been 41 days.” Her new Fox colleague, Sean Hannity, similarly asked “Where is our commander-in-chief? You know, that new guy?” But what has the pungent stench of hypocrisy is that Fox News wouldn’t cover Biden’s press conferences if they were being held.

To date Fox News has not aired a single White House press briefing, which the Biden team has returned to doing daily. Nor have they aired a single press conference by the White House COVID-19 Response Team. Recall that Fox News aired every similar event during the Trump administration. Fox didn’t even air the congressional hearings on the January 6th Trump Insurrection.

Given their disinterest in what President Biden has to say – unless they can distort it to make him look bad – the complaints by Fox News about press conferences are irrelevant and should be ignored. We know that when Biden does hold a press conference, Fox will be covering the “canceling” of a Muppet, or a shady pillow huckster, or some other ridiculous, politically partisan, culture war demagoguery. It’s what they do.

Fox News Can’t Seem to Find Joe Biden – They Must Be Watching Fox News

Another day – another opportunity for Fox News to pretend that President Joe Biden doesn’t exist. For six weeks now Fox News has avoided virtually every public event held by Biden and his administration. They have not aired a single one of his COVID Response Team’s press conferences. Nor have they covered a single one his press secretary’s daily briefings.

Joe Biden, Donald Trump Baby, Fake News

What’s more, Fox News failed to cover the congressional hearings on the January 6th Capitol riots where Donald Trump’s Insurrectionist Brigades staged a deadly assault on democracy. Fox ignored the testimony of FBI Director Christopher Wray, as well as that of the police and security forces that Trump’s flunkies prevented from responding.

By contrast, Fox would carry live airings of Trump burping after slurping down a Diet Coke. Every time Trump showed his face, Fox would dutifully scamper to the scene to broadcast his blatant propaganda and his flagrant and unchallenged lies. Which makes it all the more appalling that Fox’s Sean Hannity would host the network’s newest disinformer, former Trump press secretary Kayleigh McEnany, to pose the burning question: Where’s Joe?

“My question is ‘Where’s Joe?’ It’s been 41 days. At this point President Trump had multiple press appearances. press conferences. President Obama did as well. Joe Biden needs to step up. We need to hear from him. He needs to engage in the transparency he promised us. He hasn’t thus far.”

Perhaps the reason that McEnany and Hannity can’t find Biden is that they’ve been looking for him on Fox News. The truth is that Biden has been making numerous public appearances throughout the first few weeks of his term. The subjects he addressed include:

  • COVID-19 Vaccination Efforts
  • Passing the COVID relief and stimulus plan
  • Racial Equity
  • Containing the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Reversing the 2018 transgender military ban
  • Boosting american manufacturing
  • Climate Change
  • Strengthening Obamacare
  • Immigration reform
  • Jobs and infrastructure
  • Helping small businesses
  • Commemorating 500,000 American lives lost to COVID-19

This isn’t the first time that Hannity has admitted his dreadfully poor journalistic skills failed him. A couple of weeks ago he whined that he couldn’t find Biden during the massive winter storm that devastated Texas. Never mind that Biden was paying close attention and issued emergency declarations to jump start the federal response. It was Texas Sen. Ted Cruz who went missing, as he jetted off to sunnier climes in Cancun, Mexico. But then it was Hannity who complained about “Biden’s Disastrous First Week” after only one day in office.

In place of reporting on the current President of the United States and what he’s doing on behalf of the American people, Fox News has been obsessed with bizarre allusions to what they call “cancel culture.” Lately this has featured tediously repeated segments alleging that Dr. Seuss books have been “canceled” in what they claim is fascism. Fox is blaming this atrocity on Democrats, despite the fact that it was the estate of Dr. Seuss that independently chose to cease publication of a few books that they deemed to be racially insensitive. And of course, let’s not forget that it was Fox who was “canceling” Dr. Seuss not long ago:

Finally, the most prolific “canceler” has to be Donald Trump, who has canceled Fox News. He’s canceled American companies. And he’s even canceled a flock of “disloyal” Republicans. He is a raging volcano of vengeance, determined to destroy anyone who isn’t completely faithful to the Cult of Trump. And while Fox is having trouble finding Biden, it’s actually Trump who has been hiding in his Mar-a-Lago bunker, afraid to poke his head out except for his adoring disciples at CPAC.

Kayleigh McEnany Tells Fox News She Was SHOCKED By the Violence – that Trump Incited

On Tuesday morning the newest member of the Fox News family made her debut on the conservative propaganda network. Former Donald Trump Press Secretary, Kayleigh McEnany, sat for an interview with Fox’s Harris Faulkner. The segment was as jam-packed with the lies and worshipful adoration that was typical of her many prior appearances on Fox News and her infrequent, always hostile, White House press briefings.

Kayleigh McEnany, Donald Trump

McEnany’s interview aired while FBI Director Christopher Wray was testifying before the Senate about the January 6th Capitol riots. CNN and MSNBC were airing the hearing. Fox News apparently considered McEnany’s interview more newsworthy. Although the riots were a featured part of the interview:

“I think at the beginning of the day before everyone went to the rally, everyone was expecting peace. […] And then as those events transpired, it was disbelief, shock, somber, sad, horrified by the violence. and it was a very hard, difficult day in the White House, there was no doubt. It was a, I should say, widespread feeling, synonymous feeling, completely. A feeling that everyone felt just completely condemning the actions of that day.”

If McEnany was “shocked” by the tragic events that resulted in five deaths and numerous injuries, she must have been in a self-induced coma. The FBI had issued warnings of anticipated hostilities prior to Trump’s inflammatory cult rally. According to the Washington Post

“A day before rioters stormed Congress, an FBI office in Virginia issued an explicit warning that extremists were preparing to travel to Washington to commit violence and ‘war.'” […]

“[T]he alarming Jan. 5 intelligence document was shared ‘with all our law enforcement partners’ through the joint terrorism task force, which includes the U.S. Capitol Police, the U.S. Park Police, D.C. police, and other federal and local agencies.”

What’s more, McEnany’s assertion that there were “synonamous” [sic] feelings of disbelief and horror doesn’t align with the reality as described at the time by former Trump aides who said that “Trump enjoyed watching the events unfold. He was ‘loving watching the Capitol mob.'” Trump himself, in reluctant remarks made hours after the riots began, told the rioters that “We love you,” and that “You’re very special.” The interview continued with Faulkner asking McEnany whether she thought Trump bore any responsibility. Guess what she said:

“No, no I don’t. […] What those rioters did, you know the left says he’s responsible, he’s incited this – or even other Republicans – What I would say to them, well these rioters, if they were so inspired by what the President was saying – they left the speech early because reportedly they showed up at the Capitol before the end of his speech – and then they did the exact opposite of what he said. He said march peacefully and patriotically, and they did the opposite.”

Of course, McEnany is highlighting a few incidental seconds in Trump’s speech at the rally. She’s leaving out months of Trump’s incendiary rhetoric as well as his exhortation at the rally that “if you don’t fight like hell, you’re not going to have a country anymore.”

McEneny went on to describe some people she met months earlier during the campaign who were nice to her, as if that excused the actions of the Trump Insurrectionists. She insisted that the violence was done by people who “do not represent our movement,” despite Trump’s loving embrace of them. She also lied about the focus in the White House being on maintaining peace, contrary to reports by House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy who, in a desperate and profanity-laced phone call, begged Trump for more security, but was told by Trump that the rioters cared more about the election results than McCarthy did.

For the record, McEnany is contradicting Trump, who now says that he requested 10,000 National Guard troops prior to the rally. That, of course, is also a lie. If he had done so, they would have been there. And let’s not forget that McEnany is just as guilty of propagating the Big Lie about the election being “stolen” as Trump is. She also swore that the coronavirus would never come to the United States. Now she’s following her Trump administration colleague, Larry Kudlow, into the Fox News bubble where they can lie with impunity and get paid big bucks for it. Never mind the harm it does politically, and even physically, as we learned on January 6th.

The one truthful statement that McEnany made in this interview was that Trump “changed the Republican Party forever.” Curiously, she portrayed that in a positive light, despite his having presided over the loss of the House, the Senate, and the presidency, and being the lowest rated president in history. He even failed to impress the crowd at the Conservative Political Action Cult (CPAC), where he drew support for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination from only 55% of the attendees. And if that’s the best he can do in a made-for-Trump crowd, he’s looking at losing again in 2024, if he’s dumb enough to run (which he is).

UPDATE: McEnany has already been promoted to co-host of Fox’s Outnumbered>
