It’s Time for the Media to Cover Donald Trump as the Messiah of the QAnon Cult

The MAGA movement that Donald Trump started has always had the the most disturbing and dangerous attributes of a religious cult. It’s leader demands unflinching devotion. It’s followers declare unwavering loyalty. And most importantly, the flock is taught that only the leader will tell them the truth, and that everyone else is lying to them.

Donald Trump Messiah

That’s the only explanation for how the MAGA Minions can buy into the preposterous scenarios spun by Trump in his messianic quest for power. Trump requires his disciples to believe that he won the 2020 Presidential election by a landslide – and that evil Democrats and traitorous Republicans stole his victory – despite never having been able to provide a shred of evidence. He insists that he’s innocent of a multitude of crimes – from bank and tax fraud, to extorting the president of Ukraine, to inciting the January 6th insurrection, to hoarding national security documents at Mar-a-Lago and lying to the FBI about it – despite abundant evidence of his guilt.

RELATED: LOL: Sean Hannity Thinks He’s Helping Trump By Scrolling a Long List of His Crimes on Fox News

In recent weeks the shape of Trump’s political activities have advanced beyond the mere appearance of cult behavior. He is now fully embracing the associated ultra-rightist confederacy of crackpots known as QAnon. These are freakazoids who believe that Democrats are Satanic pedophiles bent on destroying America and can only be vanquished by Trump and his anointed-by-God warriors. Sadly, that army is currently populated by much of the Republican Party.

At first Trump tip-toed into the QAnon swamp with subtle allusions to their doctrine and symbolism. But last week he made the connection unmistakably explicit. Amidst a flurry of fanatical postings on his floundering social media scam, Truth Social, Trump included some unambiguous invocations to QAnon. For instance, he posted a picture of Christ with the caption “Jesus is the Greatest. President @realDonaldTrump is the second greatest.”

That’s precisely what the QAnon-sense followers profess. And it elevates Trump from a politician to a deity. Another example was Trump’s posting of video that contained multiple references to QAnon through its iconography and slogans…

Given Trump’s deep dive into this mystical madness, it no longer makes sense for the media to cover Trump as a political figure. He is promoting himself as a religious leader and aligning himself with people who regard him as their savior. It is what the pseudo-scriptural phrase “make America great again” really means. Trump and his devotees (aka the Republican Party) define it as the greatness of divinity. And they intend to follow him to heaven, even if it means waging a civil war. Or more accurately from their perspective, the war of Armageddon.

HOLY SHIH TZU: Trump Posts Hostile Easter Greetings Filled with Insults and Hatred and Fear

The worshipful infatuation that evangelicals have for Donald Trump has always been starkly hypocritical. Trump is indisputably the most flagrantly faithless person to ever occupy the White House. His ignorance of – and animosity toward – religion is evident every time he deigns to mention it. And he only mentions it when he has something personal to gain by doing so.

Flaming Trump

The record of Trump’s entire public life is antithetical to everything that the historical Jesus stands for. He and his Republican Party oppose healing the sick. They revile refugees (such as Jesus). He repeatedly engages in adultery. He lies pathologically. He has no empathy for the poor. He uses the Lord’s name in vain. And he has unrepentantly violated all of the seven deadly sins: pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath, and sloth.

Trump has previously made staggeringly irreligious remarks. For instance, when asked if had ever asked God for forgiveness, he replied that he didn’t need to because he has never done anything wrong. “I don’t have to ask God for forgiveness,” he said. “Why do I have to repent? Why do I have to ask for forgiveness if you’re not making mistakes?”

That, of course, shows that Trump has a painfully misguided interpretation of the tenets of his own alleged Presbyterian faith, including “original sin,” wherein all are born with sin and require God’s forgiveness for salvation.

On this Easter Sunday, Trump demonstrated his holiday spirit by posting messages (via his Twitter ban defying spokes-shill) that are rife with rancor and venomous rage. He couldn’t even refrain from excreting his hateful bile for a single day to pay tribute to his alleged savior. So he tweeted

“Happy Easter to all including the Radical Left Maniacs who are doing everything possible to destroy our Country. May they not succeed, but let them, nevertheless, be happy, healthy, wealthy, and well!”

Not satisfied with that maliciousness, he then tweeted

“Happy Easter to failed gubernatorial candidate and racist Attorney General Letitia James. May she remain healthy despite the fact that she will continue to drive business out of New York while at the same time keeping crime, death, and destruction in New York!”

How reverential of the spirit of this day when other Christians are gathered in churches and homes celebrating the resurrection of their lord. What’s more, this is also Passover and Ramadan, but Trump didn’t bother to recognize the holy days of Jews and Muslims. Which, given how he recognized the Christians, is a blessing.

Instead, Trump lashed out at the tens of millions of Americans who hold different political opinions than he does, calling them all “maniacs.” And he maligned the Black Attorney General of New York (whom he desperately fears) as a racist. And he disparages everyone who disagrees with him as wanting to “destroy” the country.

RELATED: Crybaby Trump is Scared and Lashing Out Hysterically at Hillary Clinton and NY AG Letitia James

This, of course, is not the first time that Trump has denigrated his alleged faith on Easter in order to insult his enemies (whom Jesus called upon to love). Last year Trump issued a repugnant Easter message that venerated his “Big Lie” about the 2020 election, saying that…

“They rigged and stole our 2020 Presidential Election, which we won by a landslide, and then, on top of that, boycott and scare companies into submission. Never submit, never give up! The Radical Left will destroy our Country if we let them. We will not become a Socialist Nation. Happy Easter!”

Trump was triggered by the fact that private companies didn’t want to be associated with the blatant voter suppression laws that were implemented in Georgia. So in his typical totalitarian, anti-free market fashion, he ordered his cult followers to boycott them – in honor of Easter.

Trump’s Christian followers really need to explain how they can support him given his past and current behavior and blatant blasphemy. They need to, but they won’t. Because they are the sort of Christians who populated the Den of Iniquity, and who currently reside in the House of Hypocrisy. In their delusions Trump is honest, loving, humble, pious, and virtuous. You know, like a Messiah.

UPDATE: Not wanting to be left out, Donnie Jr posted this Easter tribute to the “Prince of Peace,” perverting the Holiday Bunny as gun-toting mercenaries and captioning it with threat:

OMG! Pathological Liar Trump Says He is ‘the Most Honest Human Being God Ever Created’

Whenever Donald Trump stages one his traveling salvation shows, there is certain be an avalanche of flagrant falsehoods foisted on his gullible cult followers. For the most part they are regurgitations of the litany of lies that he has been unleashing for months and years. And that was true Saturday night in North Carolina where Trump dissembled manically about everything from the 2020 election to the border wall to gender studies and more.

Donald Trump Messiah

The North Carolina rally was ostensibly an opportunity for Trump to pump up local Republican candidates like Ted Budd and Madison Cawthorn. But like all other Trump affairs, he made it about the only person he really cares about – himself. And on this occasion, like so many others, Trump portrayed himself in saintly terms for his worshipful disciples.

When Trump reached the part of his speech where he whined about being investigated for the multitude of crimes he has committed, he offered up praise for his own divine honesty. He began by complaining that…

“You know, you’ve been investigated years and years, millions and millions of pages of documents, they found nothing. […] I’ve been investigated by the Democrats more the Billy the Kid, Jessie James, and Al Capone combined.”

First of all, Trump’s assertion that nothing incriminating was found in the probes of his criminality is utterly delusional. There has been abundant evidence of his wrongdoing revealed in the Mueller Report, the House Select Committee on the January 6th insurrection, and in the investigations by both federal and state legal authorities. There’s a reason that Trump has ordered his minions to refuse to testify, and why those who showed up took the 5th Amendment.

RELATED: WHUT? Trump Lies That He Wants the People He Told Not to Testify to Tell the Truth

What’s more, it’s notable that the former reality TV game show host is now putting himself in the company of notorious outlaws who, like him, got away with many of their crimes before justice eventually prevailed. Undaunted, Trump made sure to impress upon his flock that he is the infallible messiah that they have been waiting for. After griping pathetically about what a victim he is, Trump declared that that “I think I’m the most honest human being, perhaps, that God ever created.”

Really? The guy who has been documented to have told more than 30,000 lies during his occupation of the White House? The guy who has been promulgating the “Big Lie” that the 2020 election was “rigged,” despite being unable to produce a shred of evidence? The guy who has brazenly lied about the COVID pandemic, his numerous sexual assaults, his taxes, his unsavory and treasonous Russian associations (that he is still engaged in), and his role in inciting riots in Washington, D.C. to subvert democracy? That guy?

RELATED: PolitiFact’s Lie of the Year: The January 6th Insurrection Disinformation By Trump and Fox News

It’s astonishing that Trump can still pretend to be a holy messenger of God, and that his devotees can still buy it. After all, Trump once blasphemously claimed that “I don’t have to ask God for forgiveness. […] Why do I have to repent? Why do I have to ask for forgiveness if you’re not making mistakes?” And now he exalts himself as “the most honest human being that God ever created”? Is he serious? A “human being”? That still needs to be proven.

In Jesus’ Name: Messiah Trump Promises Election Fraud ‘Truth’ is Coming Out – In Two Weeks?

The Cult of Trump is continuing its apocalyptic crusade across red America with yet another one of his traveling salvation shows. Following his humiliation in Georgia last month, where the paltry crowd was seen exiting while he was still in mid-rant, Trump ventured to Michigan to give it another go.

Donald Trump Messiah

One of the reasons that Trump’s circus is drawing fewer fans is that he insists on replaying the same tedious bits at every fan-fest. His set list consists solely of shouting at the “fake news,” chanting “lock her up” whenever Hillary Clinton is mentioned, and his interminable whining that the 2020 election was “rigged” and “stolen” from him.

The “Big Lie” was once again featured on Saturday night. The evening’s fare was foreshadowed in the event’s opening prayer, delivered by a fully ordained minister of Trumpism who warmed up the audience with this appeal to the Lard:

“So we pray. Father in heaven, we firmly believe that Donald J. Trump is the current and true president of the United States. You have raised him up for this season of time to be used and be part in saving a nation. Bless and protect him and his family from any physical, spiritual attacks and may his voice stir the people to righteous action to bring godly men and women into elected office, in Michigan and across America.”

So now God is being recruited as a witness to Trump’s divine ascendency to the throne of America. You would think that a pastor would be reticent to lie so blatantly to God’s face by calling Trump the “current and true president” when he clearly is not. Contrary to God raising Trump up, he very plainly slammed him down, which is why he’s still holding these pathetic freak shows. But the minister of lies continued saying that…

“We declare he will be back in office soon. VERY soon. In Jesus’ name. Amen. We pray the fraud in the 2020 election will continue to be exposed and the election decertified in Michigan. The battleground state in our nation. In Jesus’ name.”

With that declaration the affair was off to a bizarre and sacrilegious start. The audience was now ready for the main abstraction. Donald Trump. And he didn’t disappoint – well – no more than usual. As expected, Trump addressed the “Big Lie” in a tirade that he pretended would be brief (video below):

“And just to cover it quickly, because I don’t want to take a lot of time, but it’s coming, out this ‘Truth to Vote,’ where they found all the thousands and thousands of ballot harvesters. You’ve seen that. ‘Truth to Vote.’ But when you see that – that’s coming out in two weeks – when you see those numbers, I think it’s four or five million people cheating. Those numbers are coming out.”

That should satisfy the deadenders that showed up for this spectacle. After all, everyone recalls how trump delivered on his promises to produce a healthcare plan in two weeks. Or his infrastructure program. Or his border wall. He is nothing if not consistent – consistently wrong. He’s had more than a year to produce evidence of election fraud and has utterly failed to do so. Not that any of his glassy-eyed disciples will notice or hold him accountable to his word.

RELATED: Trump’s PRAVDA, er, TRUTH Social Twitter Clone Flops as it Misses Another Yet Launch Date

By the way, when Trump referred to “Truth to Vote,” he was mangling the name of the wholly discreditable conspiracy crackpots at “True the Vote,” who have never produced anything remotely related to the truth. Undaunted, Trump continued saying that…

“Now the press hates like hell to cover it. Oh, they go crazy cause they have a lot of live television. I’m talking about this, they don’t know what to do. They’re saying ‘Should we turn off the cameras?’ Who cares? But right here, just quickly, in Michigan your corrupt state officials sent out 7.7 million unsolicited mail-in ballot applications to everyone on the rolls. Including people who are dead and those who no longer live in the state. Other than that it was wonderful.”

Trump frequently claims that the media covering his rallies are turning their cameras on and off depending on what he’s saying. That is, of course, delusional. Although it is true that most of the TV news networks (including Fox News) stopped carrying his rallies live long ago. They realized that there was nothing newsworthy about his vein-bursting rage-a-thons. They are just full of nonsense like “When you hear ‘mail-in ballot’ you can guarantee you have a corrupt election.”

Never mind that Trump himself votes by mail-in ballot. So do all of the voters of five states (Colorado, Hawaii, Oregon, Utah, and Washington). So does most of our military deployed away from home. And even in his remarks Trump notes that the voters of Michigan received applications for mail-in ballots, not the ballots themselves. So there is no opportunity for voter fraud.

Not that any of that matters to Trump or his cult followers. For them it is all about stirring up anger and hatred and irrational fears. And by that measure, Trump is doing a pretty good job of terrorizing his ever shrinking flock.

Pro Trump Counties Have Much Higher COVID Death Rates and Fox News Isn’t Telling Them

The recent surge in COVID infections is being distributed in an alarmingly discriminating fashion. Data shows that it is predominantly spreading in the parts of the country that voted for Donald Trump. This should not come as a surprise to anyone who has noticed how Trump and his right-wing propaganda machine have downplayed the risks and discouraged responsible behavior such as getting vaccinated and wearing masks. Even worse, they have actually been celebrating the suffering and loss of life.

Donald Trump, Fox News, Coronavirus

A new study by NPR confirms that “Counties that went heavily for Donald Trump have seen much lower vaccination rates and much higher death rates from COVID.” However, this isn’t the first time that the pandemic has been observed stalking Trump’s cult disciples. As far back as July there were reports of this grisly statistic that pointed to the reality that we are in the midst of a Pandemic of Fox News.”

What makes this all the more disturbing is that, despite its unambiguous culpability, Fox News has failed to alert its audience to the deadly path that the network has put them on. Fox News has not reported the facts revealed in the NPR study. To the contrary, Fox continues to disinform their dimwitted viewers. And the fruits of that disinformation are evident in studies that show that those who trust Fox News and its ilk are most likely to believe the most certifiably false COVID myths.

Many of those myths are actually invented by Fox News. For instance, Tucker Carlson recently warned his viewers that vaccines don’t work and “they” aren’t telling you. And Trump (who now claims to have developed the vaccine) is deliberately doctoring COVID death data to cast undeserved blame Biden.

These studies that reveal the truth about the course that COVID is taking are essential to understanding the scope of the problem and arriving at solutions. However, the people that need most to see this data are not going to see it because the only news media they patronize (Fox News, Newsmax, OAN, etc.) are not reporting it. So the press that they rely on is working purposefully to keep them ignorant and at risk of deadly consequences. That’s a bizarre business model.

If the Trump cultists won’t heed the warnings from reputable scientists, academics and journalists, perhaps they will listen to their spiritual guides. The 16th Century Christian theologian Martin Luther wrote about a pandemic in his era and how people should behave under such dire circumstances. It’s a lesson that American evangelicals need to take to heart. Luther chastised the “resisters” in his day saying (with added emphasis) that…

“They are much too rash and reckless, tempting God and disregarding everything which might counteract death and the plague. They distain the use of medicines; they do not avoid places and persons infected by the plague, but lightheartedly make sport of it and wish to prove how independent they are. They say that it is God’s punishment; if he wants to protect them he can do so without medicines or our carefulness. This is not trusting God but tempting him. God has created medicines and provided us with intelligence to guard and take good care of the body so that we can live in good health.”

Luther went on to warn that those who “make no use of intelligence or medicine…become a suicide in God’s eyes.” Then he leveled the most serious charge against the “rash and reckless” trying to “prove how independent they are,” saying that…

“It is even more shameful for a person to pay no heed to his own body and to fail to protect it against the plague the best he is able, and then to infect and poison others who might have remained alive if he had taken care of his body as he should have. He is thus responsible before God for his neighbor’s death and is a murderer many times over.”

‘Nuff said! Too bad that Trump and the true believes at Fox News will never say it, even though it is a sermon straight from their own divine doctrine.

HUH? Tucker Carlson’s Crackpot Conspiracy that Vaccine Mandates Cancel Christianity

Fox News has spent the past year and a half promoting their recklessly pro-COVID, anti-vax agenda. It’s an editorial mission that steered their dimwitted viewers away from the simple, life-saving steps that would protect themselves and others. Consequently, the deadly coronavirus pandemic can now be accurately attributed to the “Fox News Variant” that is infecting and killing mostly Republicans and Trump cult followers at record levels.

Fox News, Tucker Carlson, Bullshit Factory

Fox News hosts and guests are staunchly devoted to spreading disinformation about COVID. However, no one is more guilty of the medical massacre in America today than Fox’s Chief Conspiracy Crackpot, Tucker Carlson. He has promoted the use of quack cures, espoused schizoid conspiracy theories that the vaccines don’t work, and even prodded his viewers to make false police reports of child abuse against parents whose children wear face masks.

On Monday evening Carlson took another step off the cliff of incoherence with a diatribe aimed at building more obstacles to the nation finally recovering from the COVID pandemic. In this episode, Carlson unleashed some bizarre accusations about the intentions of President Biden’s Defense Department mandating coronavirus vaccines for service members. Carlson ranted that…

“The point of mandatory vaccinations is to identify the sincere Christians in the ranks, the freethinkers, the men with high testosterone levels, and anyone else who does not love Joe Biden, and make them leave immediately. It’s a takeover of the U.S. military.

Seriously? Does Carlson actually believe that directing the military to get vaccinated against a virus that has already killed more than 675,000 Americans is a ‘takeover of the military’ by wimpy, Biden-loving, atheists? Does he also think it’s unmanly for soldiers to wear combat helmets? Are Air Force pilots cowards if they use parachutes? That gear, like vaccines, is intended to protect people from known hazards. But in Carlson’s world it is an attack on his holy Christianism and a show of weakness and/or impotence, which Carlson probably thinks is caused by the vaccines.

Carlson’s harangue is off-handedly referring to a faction of phony anti-vaxxers who are pretending to have a religious objection to getting vaccinated. But even far right evangelicals like Robert Jeffress aren’t buying it. Carlson also claimed that there was no need for a vaccine mandate because “Only 46 members of the entire U.S. military have died from the coronavirus over the last year and a half.” And, in Carlson’s view, they were expendable.

However, It should be noted that if Carlson had included the fatalities of military family members, civilian employees, and contractors, there were 473 deaths. Something that Carlson clearly fails to understand is that the wellbeing of the whole military community is critical to America’s defense readiness. While some soldiers are threatening to leave rather than get vaccinated, the prospect of many more becoming sick or dying would be much worse. But that’s only a part of the relevant context that Carlson left out.

First of all, Carlson failed to note that COVID deaths in the military have been increasing in the latest surge. The Military Times reported that “Eight total deaths in the past three weeks adds up to twice the previous monthly high” And the death rate is “25 times higher than it was last year.”

What’s more, according to Defense Department data, the reason for the relatively lower death rates is the high rate of vaccination in the ranks. 89% of soldiers in the Army have had at least one dose of the vaccine, The Marines are at 68%. the Navy is at 90%. And the Air Force is at 99%. That’s an average total of 89% of all service members vaccinated. If Carlson is pleased that there is a lower death rate in the military than the population at large, then if he were honest (yeah, right) he would have to admit that it’s because vaccines work.

So in the end, Carlson’s panic over apocryphal assaults on Christianity, free thinking, and machismo, are, as usual, figments of his perverse imagination. But it fits perfectly into his long-established pattern of fantastical fear mongering and aversion to the responsibility and compassion that decent humans display. And everyone at Fox News, particularly the Murdoch family that runs it, is complicit in the harm that is being done by Carlson and his confederates at Fox to the nation and the world.

Jen Psaki Schools Evangelical Reporter on the Complexities of Pregnancy and Abortion

Late Wednesday night the Supreme Court handed down an unsigned opinion that allowed Texas to implement the most extreme abortion law in the United States. It prohibits abortion after only six weeks, by which time most women don’t even know they are pregnant, allows total strangers to bring legal action, and has no exceptions for incest or rape.

Psaki Lightening

President Biden quickly announced a “whole-of-government” response to “to ensure that women in Texas have access to safe and legal abortions.” But in the meantime there will be severe consequences and irreparable harm for the women and their families who the radically right-wing members of the Court so callously disregarded.

Not surprisingly, the subject came up at Thursday’s White House press briefing. Owen Jensen of the Eternal Word Television Network asked a question that was focused more on the politics than the legalities. He entered into this exchange with Press Secretary Jen Psaki:

Jensen: Why does the President support abortion when his own Catholic faith teaches abortion is morally wrong?
Psaki: He believes that it’s a woman’s right. It’s a woman’s body and it’s her choice, He believes that it’s up to a woman to make those decisions with her doctor. I know you’ve never faced those choices. Nor have you ever been pregnant. But for women out there who have faced those choices, this is an incredibly difficult thing. The President believes that right should be respected.

Anyone who has covered Biden, or any other pro-choice Democrat, for the past fifty years already knew the answer to Jensen’s question. It was a deliberate attempt to demean the President and to draw Psaki into a pointless debate. Of course, Psaki doesn’t suffer fools gladly. Just ask Peter Doocy of Fox News. So she schooled him on why American women will be more disturbed by this decision than partisan men from evangelical “news” outlets.

The question about pro-choice Catholics in politics is one that keeps getting asked no matter how many times it is answered. But for some reason no one ever asks anti-choice Republicans a similar question. For instance, Donald Trump suddenly became rabidly anti-choice when he ran for the GOP nomination for president. However, he grew up in the Presbyterian church that has a pretty liberal view of abortion. According to their website

“[T]he artificial or induced termination of a pregnancy is a matter of careful ethical decision of the patient . . . and therefore should not be restricted by law.” […]

“When an individual woman faces the decision whether to terminate a pregnancy, the issue is intensely personal, and may manifest itself in ways that do not reflect public rhetoric, or do not fit neatly into medical, legal or policy guidelines.”

Many other denominations have a similar position, including Episcopalians and Methodists. So why don’t we ever hear a reporter ask “Why doesn’t Trump support abortion when his own Presbyterian faith teaches that abortion is a decision of personal morality?”

This is just another reason why the separation of church and state needs to be fiercely defended. Hypocrites masquerading as believers will always try to force their beliefs onto others. These are the same people who decry Big Government. They are the people who are opposing mask and vaccine mandates that actually do save the lives of actual people. But mandating women to carry fetuses to term against their will is just fine with them. Because that’s how religious fanatics roll.

Apocalypse Wow! Trump is Bleeding Evangelical Support

From the earliest days of Donald Trump’s presidential aspirations he has disingenuously exploited America’s faith community. Never mind that he’s a thrice married adulterer and sexual predator. Or that he robs and cheats without remorse. Or that he is greedy, prideful, envious, wrathful, gluttonous, and profane. His pandering to supposedly devout Christians has been a hallmark of his political persona.

Donald Trump Messiah

America’s evangelicals were all to willing to prostrate themselves before their new Messiah. Not because he represented their spiritual ideals, but because he promised to deliver on their right-wing political agenda. If he could seat some ultra-conservative judges and abolish safe and legal abortions, they would abandon their faith and reward him with their votes.

Well, those days may be behind us. A new poll by Politico has some bad news for Pastor Don. Despite Trump’s success in appointing unqualified, but radical right-wing jurists, his support among the Jesus weasels has fallen into the depths of political Hades. He cannot get a majority of voters to buy his alleged religiosity. Even worse, majorities of the faith community don’t buy it either:

“Only 27 percent of registered voters in a new POLITICO/Morning Consult poll said they somewhat or strongly agree that Trump himself is religious, while 55 percent somewhat or strongly disagree. Among subgroups, just over a third of all Christians view the president as religious (50 percent do not), while 23 percent of Catholics and 18 percent of independents see him that way.”

The poll went on to show that among evangelicals, Trump could convince only 40% that he was one of them. In fact, the only demographic groups that did regard Trump as an actual Christian were conservatives (55%) and Republicans (60%). Proving that the whole charade was purely a political strategy that gained no ground outside of the rabidly partisan crowd.

It’s notable that this survey was conducted after Trump’s photo-op outside of St. John’s Episcopal Church across the street from the White House. Obviously, very few people, including believers, were fooled by Trump standing awkwardly in front of a boarded-up church, scowling as he held a bible upside down, and declining to say a single word. And the reports of how he cleared the way for this farce by having law enforcement beat and teargas peaceful demonstrators probably didn’t win any hearts or minds either.

Trump has never been very good at articulating his religious beliefs. He was unable to cite a single passage of scripture when asked. He often mangles the biblical parables he attempts to misappropriate. He frequently displays his utter ignorance of spirituality with bizarre responses to simple questions. For instance, he was once asked if he had ever asked God for forgiveness, which all Christians must do to receive salvation for original sin. He responded by saying that he didn’t need to because he has never done anything wrong:

“I’m trying to lead a life where I don’t have to ask God for forgiveness. […] Why do I have to repent? Why do I have to ask for forgiveness if you’re not making mistakes?”

So in addition to referring to himself as “The Chosen One,” Trump sees himself as infallible. What’s more, his orientation to faith is strictly wound around himself. He was recently asked whether he’s “grown in his faith” since becoming president. Trump replied, “I think maybe I have, from the standpoint that I see so much that I can do. I’ve done so much for religion.”

Everything in Trump’s narcissistic world revolves around Trump. So it isn’t surprising that his most reliable base of support is crumbling beneath his feet of clay. Another recent poll found that his support among evangelical voters declined a whopping 20% since March. At this rate the only people supporting Trump will be his family, the white nationalist militias, and a smattering of Deplorables who are still trying to figure out how to peel a banana.

The Chosen One: Trump Attacks Christianity Today’s Call to Impeach Him for Gross Immorality

One of the most perplexing subplots of Donald Trump’s Soap Opera Presidency is the devotion he is shown by Christian evangelicals for a pathological lying, serial adulterer and sexual predator, who is greedy, lazy, prideful, gluttonous, profane, vengeful, and stuffs all of those faults into a wrapper of infantile egocentrism.

Donald Trump Messiah

The religious right has long demonstrated that they are way too eagerly willing to abandon their principles in exchange for some rewarding political bone to chew on. But even so, Trump seemed like too long a stretch for people who allegedly aspire to higher morals. That turned out not to true. The evangelical community found ways to ignore Trump’s failings and embrace him as one of their own, despite his life of public irreligiosity.

However, there may now be a small crack opening up in the spiritual dam. The popular evangelical magazine, Christianity Today, (founded by Billy Graham) just published an opinion piece calling for Trump to impeached and removed from office. They did not mince words either. Addressing the recent impeachment of Trump, CT’s editor in chief Mark Galli wrote that…

“…the facts in this instance are unambiguous: The president of the United States attempted to use his political power to coerce a foreign leader to harass and discredit one of the president’s political opponents. That is not only a violation of the Constitution; more importantly, it is profoundly immoral.”

Galli went on to enumerate some of Trump’s more egregious sins, such as his association with “people who are now convicted criminals,” as well as his “immoral actions in business and his relationship with women.” Galli described Trump as “a near perfect example of a human being who is morally lost and confused,” with a “grossly immoral character.” And Galli implored his readers to…

“Consider what an unbelieving world will say if you continue to brush off Mr. Trump’s immoral words and behavior in the cause of political expediency. If we don’t reverse course now, will anyone take anything we say about justice and righteousness with any seriousness for decades to come?”

Well, Trump didn’t wait long to condemn the magazine in stark, personal, and as always for Trump, dishonest terms:

No honest, objective person would ever describe Christianity Today as a “far left” or “progressive” magazine. And typical of Trump’s wrath, he blindly and falsely demeans the success of his perceived foe, just as he has done with CNN, the New York Times, Alec Baldwin, and others. Trump feels he needs to make his critics look small in order to feel big himself.

Then Trump insults every person of faith by asserting that they are not capable of assessing his behavior during his fateful phone call with the president of Ukraine. Trump repeats his contention that the call was “perfect,” even though his own transcript reveals that he conditioned foreign aid on Ukraine’s agreement to help him smear Joe Biden.

Naturally, Trump also lashed out at his political rivals, accusing them of wanting to “take your religion & your guns,” which is an odd juxtaposition. Needless to say, the Democrats that Trump is maligning have all been strong advocates for freedom of religion. But he seems to have forgotten that if he is removed from office, they wouldn’t be moving into the White House. It’s his devoutly Christian vice-president, Mike Pence, who would be sworn in.

Worst of all, Trump, as he has done many times before, exalts himself as the world’s foremost agent of Christ. As with everything else for which he rates his performance, he insists that no one “has ever done what I have done,” in this case “for Evangelicals, or religion itself!” Let that sink in: “for religion itself.”

This is coming from someone who once described himself as the Chosen One.” It’s coming from someone who has said that he doesn’t need to ask God for forgiveness because he’s never done anything wrong. This is a man that who,, like many cult leaders before him, preaches to his disciples that he – and only he – can be believed. So while Trump may like to call himself the “Chosen One,” there are other names for what Trump really is.

Attorney Genuflect Barr Inadvertently Tags Trump World as ‘Organized Destruction’

The administration of Donald Trump has suffered unprecedented chaos and personnel turnover. Trump is on his third Chief of Staff. He is about to name his fourth Homeland Security Secretary. His current Communications Director is the fifth person to hold that jobs. He’s had at least 55 high-profile departures, and that isn’t counting dozens more at mid-levels.

William Barr, Donald Trump

However, his second Attorney General, William Barr, appears to be fulfilling the criteria that Trump values most in his underlings: 100% pure, unadulterated, and blind loyalty. Barr has been acting as Trump’s de facto personal lawyer, despite that being wholly improper and unethical for the nation’s top law enforcement official. He routinely takes Trump’;s side on controversial legal issues without regard for legal precedent or even reasoning. He has even inserted himself into the congressional impeachment inquiry in ways that make him subject to potential impeachment himself.

On Friday Barr gave a speech at Notre Dame University where he took some positions that are far afield from his duties as Attorney General (video below). In fact, he sounded more like one of Trump’s evangelical political boosters than a lawyer representing the American people. His remarks condemned the “ascendancy” of “secularism” as the cause of every social problem from mental illness, to violence, to drug abuse. And his sermonizing went even further to blast through the wall separating church and state. For instance, he said that…

“Among the militant secularists are many so-called progressives. But where is the progress? We are told we’re living in a post-Christian era. But what has replaced the Judeo-Christian moral system? What is it that fills the spiritual void in the heart of the individual person? And what is the system of values that can sustain human social life? The fact is that no secular creed has emerged capable of performing the role of religion.

Thank you Pastor Barr. In that one brief paragraph Barr has maligned progressives as anti-religion militants who advocate for the abandonment of social values. His remedy, of course, is more religion, rather than respect for the Constitution and the law. But he wasn’t finished. He further stated that…

“This is not decay. This is organized destruction. Secularists and their allies have marshaled all the forces of mass communication, popular culture, the entertainment industry, and academia in an unremitting assault on religion and traditional values.”

Whoever Barr is calling “Secularists”, he is claiming that they have taken total control over all of the media and educational institutions in the country. Of course, if that were true there would never have been a Trump presidency. What Barr is really saying, without any awareness of it, is actually a condemnation of his boss. No one has been more assaultive of religion and traditional values than Trump. He’s a thrice-married, adulterous, prideful, profane, greedy, liar.

Donald Trump spent much of his life consumed by popular culture. He worked in mass communications and entertainment for fourteen years as the host of a reality TV game show. He also had a regular slot on Fox News for a segment of Fox and Friends called Mornings with Trump. And he even operated his own Trump University, although that ended when he was found to have committed fraud and ordered to pay $25 million in restitution and penalties to his students/victims.

So Barr is inadvertently telling the truth about the immorality of Trump. Everything in his speech applies more to the President than the progressive patriots he’s attacking, including the violence, drug abuse, militance, and spiritual vacancy. But more importantly, Barr’s transformation into Trump’s preacher is just another frightening diversion from the legitimate role of government by the Trump administration. It’s further evidence that Trump is steering the nation toward a fascist-style theocracy that would crush our constitutional democracy. And it makes impeaching Trump a ever more urgent imperative for the American people.
