Select Committee on January 6th Seeks Testimony From Senior Fox News Trump Flunky Sean Hannity

The House Select Committee investigating Donald Trump’s role in the deadly January 6th insurrection in Washington, D.C. has confirmed reports that it has asked Sean Hannity to voluntarily come before the Committee and reveal what he knows about Trump’s behavior leading up to, and during, the Capitol riots.

Donald Trump Sean Hannity

There is already abundant evidence of Trump’s flagrant dereliction of duty as he spent three hours watching the his StormTrumpers invading Congress before he took any action to stop it. And even then he only delivered a gushing outpouring of love for the violent, criminal, seditionists.

It was revealed last month that several Fox News hosts had emailed Trump’s Chief of Staff, Mark Meadows, begging him to get Trump to call off his rabid disciples as they were breaking doors and windows, beating police officers, and threatening the lives of members of Congress. Hannity was one of those emailing Meadows, imploring “Can he make a statement, ask people to leave the Capitol?” However, according to Zoe Lofgren, a member of the Committee, there is more where that comes from:

“He is a fact witness. We have in our possession dozens of texts that [Hannity] sent to Mark Meadows and others in his role as an apparent political operative. Indications of his communication with the president and others on strategy. And it’s that that we would like to talk to him about.

“I want to make sure that everyone knows that this isn’t a subpoena. We’ve asked him to cooperate with us as a fact witness out of his sense of patriotism, and we hope that he will respond because we have so many of these texts and pieces of evidence indicating that he was outside of his role as a press person, acting as a political operative.”

Indeed, Hannity was far more than a Fox News host during the Trump occupation of the White House. He served Trump as an adviser, and even campaigned with him What’s more, Hannity’s response to the news that the Committee is requesting his appearance came from his attorney, Jay Sekulow, who has also represented Trump. Naturally, Sekulow jumped to an absurd conclusion that “any such request would raise serious constitutional issues including First Amendment concerns regarding freedom of the press.” Of course, that’s not remotely true considering that the request is for a voluntary appearance and doesn’t involve any of Hannity’s activities on Fox News.

We can expect that Hannity will decline this offer to discuss what he knows about Trump and the January 6th insurrection. And Lofgren’s appeal to Hannity’s “sense of patriotism” was a long shot at best. Hannity isn’t the least bit concerned about the welfare of the nation. He’s too concerned with sucking up to, and defending, Dear Leader Trump, and filling his own pockets with ill-gotten gain from Trump Grifting Enterprises. It remains to be seen if a subpoena will follow Hannity’s refusal to cooperate. Regardless, his complicity is irrefutable.

UPDATE: Trump has chickened out of holding his “news” conference. Presumably because he is too scared that he might be asked questions. So he’s going to unload the same bullpucky at his next cult rally where no one can challenge him:

“In light of the total bias and dishonesty of the January 6th Unselect Committee of Democrats, two failed Republicans, and the Fake News Media, I am canceling the January 6th Press Conference at Mar-a-Lago on Thursday, and instead will discuss many of those important topics at my rally on January 15th, in Arizona.”

Fox News Hosts Begged Mark Meadows to Get Trump to Stop the Insurrection on January 6th

Every day there is more evidence of the complicity of Donald Trump and his Confederacy of Traitors who tried to undermine democracy and overturn an election with violence. The latest discoveries are in documents that Trump’s Chief of Staff, Mark Meadows, turned over to the House Select Committee investigating the January 6th insurrection.

Donald Trump Insurrection

Yes, that’s the same Mark Meadows who is now refusing to comply with a subpoena and will shortly be referred to the Justice Department on charges of contempt of Congress.

The documents that have just come to light are texts messages that were sent to Meadows while the StormTrumpers were assaulting the Capitol. Rep. Liz Cheney read some of those messages into the record during a hearing on the contempt charges against Meadows. And some of what was revealed is going to be awfully difficult for some Fox News hosts to explain away:

“According to the record multiple Fox News hosts knew the president needed to act immediately. They texted Mr. Meadows and he has turned over those texts. Quote, ‘Mark, the president needs to tell people in the Capitol to go home. This is hurting all of us. He is destroying his legacy,’ Laura Ingraham wrote. “Please, get him on TV. Destroying everything you have accomplished,’ Brian Kilmeade texted. Quote, ‘Can he make a statement, ask people to leave the Capitol?’ Sean Hannity urged.

“As the violence continued, one of the president’s sons texted Mr. Meadows, quote, ‘He’s got to condemn this shit ASAP. The Capitol Police tweet is not enough.’ Donald Trump Jr texted. Meadows responded quote, ‘I’m pushing it hard. I agree.’

“Still, president Trump did not immediately act. Donald Trump Jr texted again, again, and again. urging action by the president. Quote, ‘We need an Oval Office address. He has to lead now. It has gone too far and gotten out of hand,’ end quote.

“But hours passed without necessary action by the president. These non-privileged texts are further proof of president Trump’s supreme dereliction of duty during those 187 minutes.”

Indeed, these texts unambiguously incriminate Trump for deliberately allowing the deadly insurrection to proceed, and for violating his oath of office to defend the Constitution. But they also incriminate Sean Hannity, and Laura Ingraham, and Brian Kilmeade. While they were obviously aware of what was happening at the Capitol, and the threat that it represented, their actions since then have been to dismiss and downplay what they knew were violent acts of sedition.

In the months that have followed, they have all used their television platforms to lie that the insurrection was nothing more than a protest by peaceful patriots. But it is now abundantly clear that they knew what they were saying were flagrant falsehoods. And they purposefully deceived their viewers in order to advance the coup attempt by Trump. It is no longer possible for them to pretend, as Hannity did last month during an interview with Trump, that the insurrectionists were all members of Antifa. They knew that the rioters were Trump supporters. Obviously Antifa (if it actually existed, which it doesn’t) wouldn’t obey any entreaties from Trump to withdraw. Which is why they were pleading with Trump to call them off.

What’s more, the Foxies exposed their utterly inappropriate relationship with Trump. What business do they have sending messages to the Trump White House with advice on how to respond to an unfolding crisis. And notice that their advice was focused solely on the harm that Trump’s inaction was doing – not to members of Congress and other innocent people – but to their political interests. They were not acting as journalists (which of course, they are not), but as Trump team members and accomplices.

It will be interesting see what sort of lies they tell to try to wash off the stain of their treasonous acts. Because they surely will attempt to dig themselves into even deeper holes. They simply don’t have the integrity or honor to tell the truth. But these text messages tell the truth for them. And it’s a pretty good bet that this is just the beginning.

UPDATE: Silence from Fox News, and Meadows Responds: On Monday evening none of the Fox News hosts above whose texts were revealed mentioned them on their programs. Hannity even interviewed Meadows and completely ignored this news. So, as usual, they are keeping their audience ignorant.

Also, Meadows told Newsmax that the Committee “tried to weaponize text messages, selectively leaked them, to put out a narrative, quite frankly, that the president didn’t act.” In other words, he just attacked the Committee. He had no response to the incriminating substance of the text messages that show conclusively that Trump did not act. What other narrative could there be? Meadows didn’t offer one.

CNN Fired Chris Cuomo for Less than Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson Do on Fox News Every Day

The controversy swirling around CNN anchor Chris Cuomo reveals some profound differences between CNN and the right-wing propaganda machine led by Fox News. Cuomo was properly fired for ethical breaches related to his support for his brother, former New York governor Andrew Cuomo. He acknowledged the wrongdoing and apologized for it prior to his termination.

Donald Trump Fox News

Naturally, Fox News immediately began celebrating Cuomo’s dismissal as if it were a validation of their seething animosity toward CNN, which they routinely malign as a radical leftist organization. However, CNN’s rapid review and decision about Cuomo is actually a testament to the network’s commitment to journalistic integrity. When they concluded that Cuomo had violated their standards of professional journalism, they didn’t hesitate to send him packing.

That fidelity to principle is a badge of honor for CNN that Fox News can never claim. Currently Fox employs Sean Hannity who violated the very same standards for which Cuomo was fired. While Donald Trump and Hannity are not brothers, they are political family. And it would be utterly unethical for Hannity to work with Trump and to make appearances at his cult rallies. Which is precisely what Hannity did. He also appeared in a campaign ad for Trump. And, of course, he promotes Trump daily on his Fox News program.

For the record, Cuomo never participated in political events with his brother. He never used his program to defend him. HIs ethical lapses were all on his own time and unconnected to his role at CNN. That is in sharp contrast to how Hannity made his program a nightly forum for Trump. If Fox News were to exercise the same journalistic scruples, they would have fired Hannity long ago.

Likewise, Tucker Carlson should have lost his job at Fox News for similar moral deficiencies. His recent crockumentary, “Patriot Purge,” aided and abetted Trump’s “Big Lie” and defended the violent insurrectionists who stormed the Capitol on Trump’s behalf. And if that weren’t bad enough, Carlson accused the FBI of orchestrating the riots. Carlson was so deep into Trumpism that he actually took Russia’s side against democracy and America.

So, should CNN have fired Cuomo? Absolutely! Was the firing evidence of moral lapses at the network? Absolutely not. Quite the opposite. Now if Fox News could manage to demonstrate the same level of integrity with regard to Hannity and Carlson, that would be be nice. But don’t hold your breath. You’ll end up in the ICU on a ventilator with the COVID sufferers that Fox News has deceived into believing blatant lies and disinformation about the deadly pandemic.

Trump Throws Antifa Tantrum Over January 6th Insurrection on Sean Hannity’s Fox News Fluff Fest

Nearly ten months ago Donald Trump dispatched his psycho StormTrumpers to the Capitol in a doomed but deadly attempt to stage a violent coup. The January 6th insurrection revealed the chilling lengths that the Cult of Trump would go to in order to seize power for a tyrannical madman.

Donald Trump Rally, Sieg Heil

In the months that followed, Trump has doggedly pursued his single-minded obsession with undermining democracy and exalting himself as America’s first dictator. Much of that objective involved justifying the brutality of the rioters that he incited. From the start he portrayed the rioters as “patriots” and told them that he “loved” them. Despite voluminous video evidence of violence against people and property, Trump told Laura Ingraham of Fox News that his neo-fascist fanatics posed “zero threat.”

Trump is still peddling those pernicious and self-serving lies. The latest episode occurred Tuesday evening on Sean Hannity’s Fox News Fluff Fest (video below) where Trump did what he does best: Whine! He ranted for the full hour about his delusional claims that he won the “rigged and stolen” presidential election, insisting that the real insurrection occurred on November 3, 2020 (election day), not January 6th. And he complained about Congress having the gall to investigate the worst assault on the U.S. seat of government since the Civil War. He blathered that…

“Our country focuses on so many of these fake investigations and we don’t focus on greatness any longer. Everything is an investigation. You look at what’s going on now when you have an ‘Unselect’ Committee – it’s an ‘Unselect.’ And the way they’re treating people. And yet Antifa, who are bad…BLM…You look at all of the horror shows and the death and destruction they cause. And they don’t go after them. But they go after people that in many cases – not in all cases – but in many, many cases are patriots. And you had some bad people – if you look at what happened at the Capitol – you had some bad people that were not patriots at all. And they came from other places including Antifa and including others, and they led a lot of people astray. They don’t want to cover that. They don’t want to cover the election results.”

First of all, there wouldn’t be so many investigations if Trump and his confederates didn’t commit so many crimes. No president has had more administration and campaign associates indicted and convicted than Trump, who was impeached twice himself. And if he really wants to focus on greatness, he might consider the unprecedented success of the Biden administration that has accomplished more in ten months than Trump did in four years.

Trump also reaffirms his infantile temperament with his “Unselect” nickname, for the bipartisan House Select Committee, that would make an eight year old cringe. He further asserts that the criminals who stormed Congress are being treated poorly because they are being held accountable for their crimes.

What’s more, Trump’s complaint that the election results weren’t covered is really just his desperate yearning for his lies about nonexistent election fraud to be accepted, despite the utter absence of any evidence after nearly a year, more than sixty court cases, and the indefatigable efforts of the MyPillow crackpot, Mike Lindell, and Fox News.

However, where Trump really skids off the rails is with his defense of the rioters as “patriots” and his baseless assertion that the “bad people” were clandestine members of the fictional foils of the far right, Antifa. But while Trump and others of his ilk seek to falsely lay the blame for all civil unrest on Antifa, Trump’s own Department of Homeland Security concluded that it is right-wing extremists who pose the most risk of violence.

Trump’s ludicrous accusations against imaginary leftist agitators also contradicts much of what is claimed by his own supporters. Tucker Carlson, for instance, is convinced that it wasn’t Antifa but the FBI that orchestrated the January 6th insurrection. He even produced a lie-riddled, multipart crocumentary on the subject that he titled “Patriot Purge.” And Trump fanboy Alex Jones posted his own video confession that his orders for the insurrection came directly from Trump.

Given the rampant dishonesty and incoherent ramblings of Trump and his dimwitted disciples, it is impossible to take his latest spleen venting seriously. Not that that was ever considered by rational thinkers. But it is still unsettling to see him persisting with this line of asininity. And it is even more troubling to know that there are mental defectives like Carlson, Jones, and most of the Republican Party who continue to put their faith in Trump’s fever dreams.

Sean Hannity Comes Out Against Medicare and Other Popular Life-Saving Programs

Sean Hannity has distinguished himself as the Senior Trump-Fluffer on Fox News. He can be depended on to back the Former Guy no matter what the issue is. And now that Donald Trump is frantically lobbying Republicans to oppose President Biden’s “Build Back Better” initiatives in Congress, Hannity is obediently trailing behind like a good drooling sycophant.

Sean Hannity Fox News

On his Fox News program Thursday night, Hannity delivered a harangue that was supposed to be critical of the Democratic infrastructure legislation currently being discussed. But as usual, Hannity was too ignorant, and too obsessed with his knee-jerk, right-wing bias, to include any substantive arguments that support his position. It was just another childish, lie-riddled rant (video below). Hannity whined…

“The bill expands Medicare, Obamacare. It includes money for government housing, government funded medicine, government funded healthy food. Gee, I really need their healthy food advice. After all, they look so healthy. Joe [Biden] looks so healthy to me. And of course, government funded green energy programs.”

Oh my! Hannity is scaring his audience with the fearsome threat that Democrats are trying to strengthen Medicare and Obamacare, two of the most popular federal programs in modern history. And if that weren’t enough, he is also raising the horrifying prospects of having government help disadvantaged Americans with housing, medicine, and food assistance. Hannity’s alternative is apparently to promote homelessness, illness, and starvation.

In his attempt to malign these programs that have broad support across the country, Hannity threw one of his trademark insults at President Biden, suggesting that he isn’t “healthy.” It’s a tedious cliché on Fox News, where they have vainly tried to compare the active and avid Biker Joe to the Couch Potato Trump. But Hannity wasn’t through making an arse of himself:

“And that’s not all. The bill also gives billions in entitlements to illegal immigrants. Oh, why — when other countries charge for citizenship, why are we offering illegal immigrants that didn’t respect our laws or sovereignty, why are we offering them — making them pay?”

WHUT? There is nothing in any current draft of the legislation that “gives billions in entitlements to illegal immigrants.” Hannity is, once again, making things up because he doesn’t have the intellect to form a honest, coherent argument. What’s more, he seems to be proposing that the United States sell citizenship. Everything to these Republican grifters has a price tag on it. And citizenship is just another product, another opportunity to exploit people for profit. Plus, such a repulsive plan would mean that only the rich could emigrate to the U.S.

This is how the GOP thinks. It’s how their “brain” trust at Fox News thinks. But it isn’t how the American people want their nation to be run. America is not a subdivision of Walmart where principles and patriotism are for sale. And the more that cretins like Hannity treat it like that, the deeper they will dig themselves into irrelevancy.

Debt Ceiling Dumbass Sean Hannity is Right, Except for Being Wrong About Almost Everything

Fox News is taking a rare break from trying to kill off their audience with COVID vaccine disinformation. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t still spreading lies intended to harm their viewers and the nation.

Fox News, Sean Hannity

The current battle in Congress to pass legislation for infrastructure development and economic renewal is consuming much of the news cycle. The plans represent key parts of President Biden’s agenda. So naturally Fox News is weighing in with predictable attacks on anything that the Democrats have proposed or support. And leading the charge is Fox’s Senior Trump-Fluffer, Sean Hannity.

On his nightly hour of liberal bashing and neo-fascism advocacy, Hannity demonstrated why he is so revered by budding totalitarians across the nation. He simultaneously demonstrated his infamous idiocy on pretty much any subject that he addresses.

In this episode, Hannity was canoodling with Newt Gingrich to contrive false narratives about Congress raising the debt ceiling. It’s a usually a routine function that both political parties agree to in order to keep the country from defaulting on its debts. But not this year. Republicans have been adamant that they will not play nice with Democrats, even if it means economic catastrophe. And as a loyal Republican, but a disloyal American, Hannity chimed in saying that…

“They [Democrats] have the House. They have the Senate. They want to spend all this money. Republicans don’t. There’s no opportunity to work with a Republican. I don’t think one Republican should vote to increase it by a penny. Now Democrats are gonna say ‘Oh, you’re gonna shut down the government, and the full faith and credit of the U.S. government is gonna be at stake.’ That’s not true. They have control of Congress. They have control of the purse strings. They get to decide. So it will be up to them whether or not they raise the debt ceiling. Correct?”

Oddly enough, Hannity managed to get something right for a change. Democrats do have majorities in the House and the Senate. And they can pass an increase in the debt ceiling on their own, so long as there are no defections. But everything else Hannity said is not only wrong, but mind-numbingly stupid:

  • First of all, raising the debt ceiling has nothing to do with Democrats wanting to spend money. In fact, it is the money that was already spent during the administration of Donald Trump that that would be covered by the increase.
  • Secondly, Democrats have reached out repeatedly to Republicans to join this ordinarily uncontroversial procedure. Th GOP has refused to go along, insisting that Democrats carry the load by themselves. It’s a tactic designed to blame Democrats after the fact for doing the responsible thing.
  • Thirdly, Hannity’s little charade about the GOP not putting the “full faith and credit of the U.S. government” at risk is a straight up lie, and he knows it. If the debt ceiling isn’t raised, then the U.S. cannot pay its obligations. That’s the definition of default, and would send the economy into a tailspin. The anticipation of it has already spooked the stock market.

The only thing that Hannity got right was that Democrats hold majorities in Congress. Although he fails to grasp that the only reason that’s true is because the American people put them there. They also put Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in the White House, defeating Trump by more than seven million votes.

Consequently, this might be a good time to listen to Hannity. His recognition that “[Democrats] have control of Congress, they have control of the purse strings, they get to decide,” should inspire the Democrats to move forward with the rest of their agenda. They should pass the infrastructure bill without help from the GOP. They should pass the reconciliation bill as well. And if they need to dispense with the filibuster to do it, they shouldn’t hesitate.

The Biden/Democratic agenda is overwhelmingly popular with the American people. Passage would create jobs, stimulate the economy, provide benefits for families, children, students, seniors, workers, and more. And Democrats would get all of the credit. That’s a recipe for future victories in 2022, 2024, and beyond. So if there ever a time to take Hannity’s advice, it’s now. Go for it Democrats!

Rachel Maddow Fractures Fox News For Hawking a Horse Dewormer as a COVID Cure

Apparently it wasn’t bad enough that Fox News contributed to tens of thousands of deaths, and even more severe illnesses, by downplaying the severity of the coronavirus as a flu or a hoax. And apparently they weren’t satisfied with the suffering they’ve caused by convincing their glassy-eyed viewers that vaccines either aren’t necessary, or don’t work, or are constraints on their freedom imposed by autocrats intent on enslaving them.

Fox News, Cov-Aid

Fox’s efforts have led to what can now be accurately designated the Pandemic of Fox News.” Their primetime purveyors of pandemic bullpucky are clearly determined to propagate even more pain.

To that end Fox News began prescribing another phony cure for the plague that they’ve been reluctant to admit exists. Despite the potential for having a positive impact on their audience, Fox continues to prove that they just don’t care. Previously they tried hype hydroxychloroquine, an anti-malarial drug for which there is no evidence of efficacy treating COVID, other than the grossly misinformed word of Donald Trump. But now they’ve moved on to Ivermectin, a horse dewormer.

Yes, you read that right. And you aren’t the only one to be stunned by the sheer idiocy of this media quackery. When MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow heard about it she launched into a righteous condemnation of both the reckless advice and the Fox News advisors (video below):

“The Mississippi State Department of Health confirming today that ‘At least 70% of the recent calls to poison control in Mississippi have been related to livestock or animal formulations of Ivermectin, purchased at livestock supply centers.

“Why are people taking livestock formulations of Ivermectin Mississippi? That’s a horse dewormer. Literally, people won’t take the vaccine because they’re super suspicious of that, but they’re taking horse deworming medication that they’re buying at a feed store? For COVID? Why, on top of everything else Mississippi has to deal with right now, why are they dealing with this? I don’t know, but I have a guess.”

Whereupon Maddow plays clips of the three Fox News primetime hosts peddling Ivermectin to their viewers:

Laura Ingraham: We know that our FDA has in many ways failed us by not allowing for the use of Ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine, both of which are used around the world to reduce COVID hospitalizations and death.
Sean Hannity: I pelted them with questions about COVID-19 and the vaccine and therapeutics hydroxychloroquine, Ivermectin … as well as other proactive treatments and practices that are already helping COVID -19 patients all across the country.
Tucker Carlson: On June 5th [Bret] Weinstein discussed the benefits of a drug called Ivermectin, which can and is used around the world to treat and prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Maddow then points out that there has only been one “significant” study connecting Ivermectin to COVID, but that it was withdrawn “because the data in it was apparently faked and the introduction to it was apparently plagiarized.” To date, no one on Fox News has withdrawn their advocacy of the drug. As Maddow noted in her closing…

“Nevertheless, Fox News is busy saying, ‘Don’t take the vaccine, but do take this horse deworming medication, trust us, it is proven.’ You could trust them or you could trust the FDA that says ‘Do not take Ivermectin for COVID.’ Or the NIH that says ‘Do not take Ivermectin for COVID.’ Or the WHO that says ‘Do not take Ivermectin for COVID.’ Even the company that makes the drug that says ‘My god, seriously people. Do not take Ivermectin for COVID.'”

You might think that that would finally be enough for Fox News to step back and retract their potentially lethal “reporting.” If so, you just know Fox News.

Here’s Proof that Fox News Could Save Thousands of Lives If They Wanted To – They Don’t

The year long determination of Fox News to convince their viewers that COVID-19 isn’t anything to worry about has resulted in the coronavirus officially becoming the Pandemic of Fox News. They are, of course, parroting the purposeful lies of Donald Trump who repeatedly told his cult followers that it was either a hoax, a Democratic plot against him, or a piffling malady that is no more serious than the common flu. And he’s still doing it.

Fox News, Cov-Aid

Never mind that Trump has known from the start how deadly it is. His deliberate dishonesty fueled the aversion of his disciples to the vaccines that he simultaneously tried to take credit for. And Fox News backed him up all the way.

As a result, the cable news network that one watches is one of the best indicators of whether or not the viewer has been vaccinated. The percentage of Fox News viewers who have received the vaccine is 21 points lower than viewers of CNN or MSNBC. Fox’s top program hosts are staunch opponents of vaccinations that they regard as attempts by the government to control the population (by keeping them alive?).

Tucker Carlson tops the list with his frequent anti-vaccine messaging, such as his paranoia drenched claim that vaccines don’t work and “they” aren’t telling you. Likewise, Sean Hannity has sowed vaccine doubts by pretending to support the science, even while insisting that no one should listen to him. Which is actually pretty good advice.

However, if Fox News was interested in the welfare of the American people, they could have a profound impact on mitigating the suffering and fatalities of the pandemic. That impact was demonstrated recently when Tractor Supply posted a sign next to a horse dewormer they sell. The sign reads…

“A number of products we carry, including select dewormers and injectables, contain the anti-parasite active ingredient Ivermectin. Despite media report that Ivermectin could potentially be used to treat people with COVID-19, these products are not safe or approved for human use, and could cause severe personal injury or death.”

Both Tucker Carlson and Laura Ingraham have promoted the use of Ivermectin based on studies that have been discredit and retracted. Carlson “repeatedly downplayed the effectiveness of COVID vaccines while touting Ivermectin on shows in June and July.” And Ingraham hosted a dubious “expert” whose advocacy of the dewormer only served to further mislead Fox’s viewers and put their health and lives at risk.

So Trump’s MAGA devotees refuse to take recommended vaccines based on the fear mongering and admitted ignorance of Fox News pundits. They say that they’re afraid of what the vaccines might contain (microchips? Fetuses?) and what potential harm they might cause. None of which has been validated. But they will rush out to their local farm supply store to buy and consume a horse dewormer that is known to be toxic to humans?

If nothing else, this proves that Fox News has a frighteningly powerful impact on their viewers and influences what they believe and do. How many other alleged “news” purveyors could get their audience to reject medicine and swallow poison instead? Now imagine if Fox News would tell them to get vaccinated. Imagine if they reported the extraordinarily high efficacy and safety of the vaccines and how reliably they reduced the incidence of severe illness, hospitalization, and death.

The result of Fox News – and Trump for that matter – enthusiastically promoting the benefits of being vaccinated could save tens of thousands of lives. It could prevent further viral variants from developing that have to potential to defeat the protection that the current vaccines provide. And that would save even more lives among the millions who have already been vaccinated.

But in order for that to happen, Fox News would have to care about the welfare of the American people. They have to put people’s health above their own political and financial interests. In other words, don’t hold your breath. Fox News – and Trump – cannot be relied upon to do the responsible and ethical thing when they can exploit people’s suffering to advance their agenda of partisanship and greed. That’s been their mission from their inception, and it isn’t going to change now.

The Pandemic of the Unvaccinated? No! It’s the Pandemic of the Fox News Infected

The past few weeks has seen a disturbing resurgence of the coronavirus. After appearing to have come under control due to the Biden administration’s success in making the vaccines widely available, the number of cases, hospitalizations, and deaths, are once again on the rise. And the cause of that is plainly attributable to the holdouts who are either reluctant or opposed to getting vaccinated.

Fox News, Covid

The data is clear that the increased viral activity is a preventable phenomenon that the CDC Director, Rochelle Walensky, has tagged as the pandemic of the unvaccinated.” Drilling deeper into the data reveals that the new COVID-19 hot zones are predominantly located in red states or Republican dominated areas.

However, even that doesn’t tell the whole story. The vaccine-averse are digging in even as the Delta variant, the most contagious yet, has become dominant. According to research conducted by an Axios/Ipsos tracking poll, Fox News viewers are significantly trailing viewers of other media in getting vaccinated:

“According to the combined sample, 62% of adults who use Fox News as their main news source have received at least one dose of the vaccine. That’s not nothing, but it’s still relatively low.” […]

“The people who get their news from CNN or MSNBC, for example, had a vaccination rate of 83% in the same polling. Likewise, 79% of adults who rely on network news have had at least one dose of a vaccine. About three-quarters (74%) who get their news from public television or radio were at least partially vaccinated.”

So the percentage of Fox News viewers that have been vaccinated is 21 points lower than viewers of CNN or MSNBC, and 17 points lower than those who get their news from the broadcast networks. While that is a troubling set of statistics, it isn’t especially surprising. After all, Fox News has been telling their audience for months that COVID is either a hoax or a flu. Even worse, Fox has warned that the vaccines have dangerous, even deadly side effects, or that they contain microchips or are otherwise key to a clandestine plot to control the population.

Fox fear monger Tucker Carlson recently warned his viewers that vaccines don’t work and “they” aren’t telling you. Just this week Fox’s Sean Hannity appeared to briefly concede that the vaccine was beneficial and should be taken. But the following day he reversed himself and told his audience not take his advice anyway because he’s not a doctor. As for Donald Trump, he gave his disciples at his latest cult rally a decidedly mixed message:

“How about the vaccine? I came up with the vaccine. They said it would take three to five years. Gonna save the world. I recommend you take it, but I also believe in your freedoms 100%.”

First of all, Trump asserting that “I came up with the vaccine.” may be one of the most thoroughly demented things he’s said since his proposal to inject Clorox as a virus treatment. More to the point, though, Trump isn’t going to persuade his flock to get the shot if he immediately qualifies his rather weak recommendation with a suggestion that their “freedoms” rest on not getting it.

The result of this leads to the conclusion that a “pandemic of the unvaccinated” is not the best description of our current state of affairs. This is more accurately described as a “pandemic of the Fox News infected.” Whether or not someone watches Fox News may be the best indicator of their vaccination status, or their likelihood of getting vaccinated in the future. Consequently, for the safety of everyone else, it might be best to avoid any contact with Fox News viewers. They are the ones most likely to be infected and transmitting the virus. Stay safe America.

UPDATE: It’s getting much worse. The red/blue vaccination divide was about two points in April. Now it’s six times greater:

Sean Hannity of Fox News Admits that ‘I Am Simply Not Qualified’ to Give Expert Advice

In recent weeks the Delta variant of COVID-19 has spread rapidly through communities of unvaccinated Americans. That means, of course, that mostly red state and Republican areas are suffering the worst of the viral spike. Consequently, there has been some significant movement among some conservative politicians and pundits who were previously loathe to make any positive comments about vaccines or the benefits of getting vaccinated.

Fox News, Sean Hannity, Coronavirus

Among those who were praised in the press was Sean Hannity of Fox News. Earlier this week Hannity told his vaccine-hesitant viewers to “Please take COVID seriously. I can’t say it enough. Enough people have died.” It wasn’t actually a call to get vaccinated. It was more like a legal disclaimer to do research and make your own decision. Which is a position that would make Captain Obvious blush as being way too apparent to anyone with a pulse.

Setting aside the undeserved credit Hannity received, he affirmed his stance against the benefits of getting vaccinated in a segment on Thursday night. Hannity delivered an extended refutation of the media reports that he previously might have said something marginally intelligent and responsible about vaccines. He certainly couldn’t let that stand. So he devoted a couple of minutes to denying that he ever did something so ludicrous as to advocate on behalf of preventing people from suffering long and painful illness and death.

The fact that Hannity felt it necessary to make absolutely sure that no one thought he would ever stoop to recommending a life-saving vaccine tells you just how committed he is to perpetuating the pandemic, and how afraid he is of alienating his anti-vax audience. He said that…

“I never told anyone to get a vaccine. I’ve been very clear. I am simply not qualified. I’m not a medical doctor. I know nothing about your medical history or your current medical condition. I think it’s inappropriate for me to do so.”

How thoughtful of Hannity to clear that up. We wouldn’t want anyone to mistakenly believe that he cared about the public welfare. But even more helpful was his admission that “I am simply not qualified.” That’s objectively true. However, it’s an admission that doesn’t apply to just his medical credentials, or lack thereof. Hannity also has no qualifications for any of the subjects he pontificates on nightly. He’s a college dropout who rose through the ranks of radio shock jocks to land a spot on Fox “News.” He isn’t an expert on economics, or the military, or health insurance, or climate science, or government ideology, or education, or immigration, or labor, or last but not least, journalism.

Nevertheless, Hannity gives extraordinarily half-baked (if that) advice on all of those matters. and all of his ill advice comes with blatantly biased, ultra-rightist slants. More often than not his advice consists merely of infantile insults aimed at Democrats, liberals, and other ideological foes.

Regarding his pandemic punditry, Hannity claims to be pro-science. However, he has spent much of the last year insisting that the coronavirus was either a hoax, a glorified flu, or a Democratic plot to hurt Donald Trump – who also lied about the virus being a hoax, a glorified flu, or a Democratic plot. For his trouble, Hannity succeeded in contributing to the pandemic’s death toll. A study last year found that higher rates of coronavirus fatalities could be directly linked to watching Sean Hannity.

What’s more, Hannity’s COVID coverage surely had an impact on his Republican audience. A recent Washington Post/ABC News poll found that “Ninety-three percent of Democrats say they either have been vaccinated or definitely or probably will do so; that plummets to 49% of Republicans.”

So while about half of the Republicans who are likely Fox News viewers remain opposed to getting vaccinated, and thus, susceptible to getting infected, Hannity felt compelled to assure everyone that he isn’t advocating vaccinations for anyone. And that’s based on his being unqualified to have an opinion, which is, in point of fact, an opinion.

But if he’s going to bother bringing up the issue on his program, he surely knows that he could book an actual expert and let that person advocate for getting the shot. However, that would require Hannity caring about people, rather than just image and ratings and Trump love.
