{"id":1226,"date":"2009-03-21T14:26:02","date_gmt":"2009-03-21T21:26:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.newscorpse.com\/ncWP\/?p=1226"},"modified":"2009-03-23T16:09:21","modified_gmt":"2009-03-23T23:09:21","slug":"brit-hume-confesses-to-fox-news-right-wing-bias","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newscorpse.com\/ncWP\/?p=1226","title":{"rendered":"Brit Hume Confesses To Fox News Right-Wing Bias"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Media Research Center, an uber-conservative media watch organization headed by professional propagandist Brent Bozell, held its <a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/2009\/03\/20\/hume-warns-media-mrc\/\" target=\"_blank\">annual gala<\/a> last week to honor the heroes of rightist disinformation and to mock liberals and truth-tellers. The event featured Republican stalwart, war correspondent, and political strategist, Joe the Plumber, who greeted the crowd by announcing that their adulation made him <em>&#8220;horny&#8221;<\/em> (I know&#8230;eewww).<\/p>\n<p>The main event of the evening was the presentation of the William F. Buckley Jr. Award for Media Excellence to Fox News&#8217; Brit Hume. Hume&#8217;s acceptance speech provides further evidence that Fox News has always been a Republican mouthpiece:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Hume:<\/strong> <span style=\"color:#0d00d0;\">I want to say a word, however, of thanks to Brent and the team at the Media Research Center [&#8230;] for the tremendous amount of material that the Media Research Center provided me for so many years when I was anchoring Special Report, I don&#8217;t know what we would&#8217;ve done without them.  It was <strong>a daily buffet of material to work from, and we certainly made tremendous use of it<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>A tremendous amount of material that he made tremendous use of? It sounds like the MRC was Fox News&#8217; wire service. They saved Fox the trouble of having to go out and make up the news by themselves. It is this sort of admission that could get Hume into trouble for saying too much. But this isn&#8217;t the first time a Foxian has revealed that they are in the employ of rightist ideologues:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Fox Anchor Jon Scott <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newscorpse.com\/ncWP\/?p=1197\" target=\"_blank\">was caught<\/a> reading directly from a Republican press release as though it were news.<\/li>\n<li>Rupert Murdoch admitted that he <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newscorpse.com\/ncWP\/?p=341\" target=\"_blank\">tried to shape public opinion<\/a> on the war in Iraq.<\/li>\n<li>Murdoch also boasted that his Fox Business Network would be a more &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.newscorpse.com\/ncWP\/?p=347\" target=\"_blank\">business friendly<\/a>&#8221; network.<\/li>\n<li>Chris Wallace, host of Fox News Sunday, noted that he <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newscorpse.com\/ncWP\/?p=1185\" target=\"_blank\">generally agrees<\/a> with Sean Hannity.<\/li>\n<li>In a revealing bit of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newscorpse.com\/ncWP\/?p=137\" target=\"_blank\">staff development<\/a>, George Bush hired Fox anchor Tony Snow to be his press secretary.<\/li>\n<li>Just added 3\/23\/09: In an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/templates\/story\/story.php?storyId=102254703&#038;ft=1&#038;f=1014\" target=\"_blank\">interview with NPR<\/a>, Fox News VP Bill Shine blurted out that Fox is the &#8220;voice of opposition.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition to Hume&#8217;s shout out to the MRC, he lashed out at new media and blogs as being responsible for a narrowing of political views in the media.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Hume:<\/strong> <span style=\"color:#0d00d0;\">I think that we also have the danger that everything will be presented from one political viewpoint or the other, and that the media that confront us are going to be more partisan than ever.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Exactly. You certainly wouldn&#8217;t want to have a network that only presented a single point of view, would you?
