But now that Hunter has been charged, his GOP pesterers are less than thrilled. They regard the plea deal that he accepted with prosecutors as a too lenient <em>&#8220;sweetheart deal.&#8221;<\/em> Which is ironic because one might think that Republicans would support people who resist paying taxes and embrace gun ownership. But no. He whines that <em>&#8220;Our system is broken.&#8221;<\/em> However, he could have had his own plea deal if he were willing to admit his obvious guilt. But <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/trump-rejected-lawyers-effort-propose-settlement-documents-case\/story?id=100114526\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">he arrogantly refused<\/a><\/strong>. And in disparaging the justice system he neglects to acknowledge that the U.S. Attorney in Delaware who charged Hunter was a Trump appointee.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Go ahead, sweetheart&#8230; Plead guilty like Hunter Biden did. They&#8217;re right, but not in the way that they think. Hunter received a sentence that is line with other defendants on similar charges. It&#8217;s Trump who has so far gotten off easy. And his criminal accomplices do so as well. For instance, Trump whisperer <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/news.bloombergtax.com\/daily-tax-report\/roger-stone-wife-agree-to-2-million-settlement-in-tax-case\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Roger Stone settled<\/a><\/strong> a $2,000,000 tax evasion case last year with zero jail time and not even any probation.<\/p>\n<p>The Republican Speaker of the House, Kevin McCarthy, weighed in on the Hunter matter as well. And he exhibited his notoriously deficient capacity for logic and reason. McCarthy told reporters that&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;It continues to show the two-tier system in America. If you are the president\u2019s leading political opponent, the DOJ tries to literally put you in jail and give you prison time. But if you are the president\u2019s son, you get a sweetheart deal. Now this does nothing to our investigation. It actually should enhance our investigation because the DOJ should not be able to withhold any information now saying that there\u2019s a pending investigation. They should be able to provide [House Oversight Committee] Chairman [James] Comer with any information that he requires.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">House Speaker Kevin McCarthy calls Hunter Biden&#39;s plea agreement with the DoJ a \u201csweetheart deal\u201d and says \u201cit actually should enhance\u201d the Republicans&#39; congressional investigation.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201csweetheart deal\u201d was made by a Trump-appointed U.S. attorney. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/GN43tgsyvL\">pic.twitter.com\/GN43tgsyvL<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; The Recount (@therecount) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/therecount\/status\/1671178589897670658?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 20, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>McCarthy&#8217;s suggestion that the Hunter resolution <em>&#8220;enhances&#8221;<\/em> the sham probes he is conducting is downright absurd. Republicans in the House are going after Hunter and President Biden on matters that are completely unrelated to the ones just wrapped up in Delaware. James Comer, chair of the House Oversight Committee, is trying desperately to manufacture crimes of bribery and corruption from thin air. In fact, he even admits that the evidence he has been harping about doesn&#8217;t exist. Which makes no sense at all. The fact that other investigations are still in progress is justification for the FBI to decline McCarthy&#8217;s inquisition.<\/p>\n<p>For his part, Comer continues to expose his biases and legal prejudice. In his response to the Hunter plea deal he said that&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Hunter Biden is getting away with a slap on the wrist when growing evidence uncovered by the House Oversight Committee reveals the Bidens engaged in a pattern of corruption, influence peddling, and possibly bribery.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Comer still hasn&#8217;t presented a shred of his allegedly <em>&#8220;growing evidence,&#8221;<\/em> or any hint of the criminal <em>&#8220;pattern&#8221;<\/em> that resides in his imagination.
