There is an old saying about how “politics makes for strange bedfellows.”<\/em> But despite this adage being older than Donald Trump’s bone spurs, many people are still surprised by unusual alliances among politicians with divergent views.<\/p>\n

This is particularly evident in the newly congenial relationship between Vice-President Kamala Harris and former congresswoman Liz Cheney. The Cheney family has long been associated with with the farthest right wing of the Republican Party. And Harris is the presidential nominee of the Democratic Party that ultra conservatives regard as socialist. Never mind that that characterization is absurd in the extreme. It is one that Trump and the MAGA GOP have attached themselves to in desperation.<\/p>\n

On Monday night, Harris’ running mate, Gov. Tim Walz, was interviewed by Jon Stewart on “The Daily Show.”<\/em> And Stewart asked Walz to comment on why Harris has been celebrating the endorsements from Liz Cheney (who has more to say about this here<\/a><\/strong>) and her father Dick. It is an entertaining and informational exchange…<\/p>\n

Stewart:<\/strong> The Cheney thing… Do we really have to do that?
\nWalz:<\/strong> Look, It goes broader than that. Bernie Sanders, Dick Cheney, Taylor Swift. Having the Cheneys on board…
\nStewart:<\/strong> No, no, no. You can\u2019t Dick Cheney or Taylor Swift. No!
\nWalz:<\/strong> We\u2019re a big tent.
\nStewart:<\/strong> What country did Taylor Swift get us to invade?
\nWalz:<\/strong> Don’t you think though that – and I do this, I believe this – There is still a core group of folks out there, your point being the Reagan piece of this; the Libertarian piece; the constitutional piece – There are a lot of people out there. I think Liz Cheney and Dick Cheney give permission to those folks who want to find a reason to do the right thing, It doesn\u2019t mean they agree with us. We\u2019re not going to take their foreign policy decisions and discussions and implement those.
