The goal of the totalitarian dystopia that Donald Trump has been craving just got closer to realization with his posting of a tediously long and lie-riddled rant on his failing Twitter rip off, Truth Social<\/a><\/strong>. Adding to his deployment of ICE stormtroopers<\/a><\/strong> in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., and his directives to have his Justice Department persecute his political foes<\/a><\/strong>, Trump is decreeing a new and obvious breach of the Constitution aimed at advancing his autocratic aspirations.<\/p>\n

Trump’s latest tyrannical outburst decrees that he will unilaterally abolish what he calls the “THE MAIL-IN BALLOT HOAX.”<\/em> [Has anyone been counting his alleged hoaxes?]<\/em> His proposal would end mail-in voting throughout the country. It’s part of a plan that Trump is executing to rig elections in order to suppress the rights of voters and support the election of his MAGA Republicans. And it comes on the heels of his campaign to redraw congressional districts to favor the GOP and deny Democrats a fair vote.<\/p>\n

In Trump’s post<\/a><\/strong> he virtually admits his anti-democratic intentions, saying that it is his purpose to harm Democratic voters “with their HORRIBLE Radical Left policies.”<\/em> But there is so much more in his extended harangue that ought to concern all Americans. For instance…<\/p>\n

“I am going to lead a movement to get rid of MAIL-IN BALLOTS, and also, while we\u2019re at it, Highly \u201cInaccurate,\u201d Very Expensive, and Seriously Controversial VOTING MACHINES.”<\/strong>
\nThe elimination of mail-in voting – and electronic voting machines – would make it impossible to conduct the vote counting in a timely manner. It would also be more prone to errors.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

“We are now the only Country in the World that uses Mail-In Voting. All others gave it up because of the MASSIVE VOTER FRAUD ENCOUNTERED.”<\/strong>
\nThis is a flat out lie. At least 30 other countries permit mail-in voting. That includes Russia. Which is a ludicrous example of fair voting practices, but who Trump used to support his lie<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

“WE WILL BEGIN THIS EFFORT, WHICH WILL BE STRONGLY OPPOSED BY THE DEMOCRATS BECAUSE THEY CHEAT AT LEVELS NEVER SEEN BEFORE, by signing an EXECUTIVE ORDER.”<\/strong>
\nTrump is projecting again. It is he and the GOP who are most commonly found to have cheated in elections. More to the point., he has no power to order how elections are held, especially not by executive order.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

“Remember, the States are merely an ‘agent’ for the Federal Government in counting and tabulating the votes. They must do what the Federal Government, as represented by the President of the United States, tells them.”<\/strong>
\nHOLY CRAP! Trump is saying out loud that he believes that he, as president, can issue mandates to the nation that must be obeyed, and that override the state sovereignty provided in the Constitution.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

“Democrats are virtually Unelectable without using this completely disproven Mail-In SCAM. ELECTIONS CAN NEVER BE HONEST WITH MAIL IN BALLOTS\/VOTING, and everybody, IN PARTICULAR THE DEMOCRATS, KNOWS THIS.”<\/strong>
\nWhat Trump means here is that he is scared to death of fair elections, and that they must not be permitted in the future. He has previously said that if mail-in voting is allowed<\/a><\/strong> “There will never be a Republican elected to high office again.”<\/em> Which sounds more like a reward than a threat. However, he has also taken the opposite position<\/a><\/strong>, urging his supporters to “vote absentee, by mail, early in person, or on Election Day.”<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

For the record, Article I, Section 4, Clause 1<\/a><\/strong>, of the Constitution states that “The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by Law make or alter such Regulations, except as to the Places of chusing Senators.”<\/em><\/p>\n

In short, the president does not have the authority to alter the way states decide to hold their elections. At best he would need to get Congress to pass legislation to make any changes to state law.<\/p>\n

Not that Trump gives a damn about the Constitution. Although, it could be interesting to see if Republicans in Congress would willingly give up their Constitutional authorities. They have done it before for Dear Leader Trump. But hopefully there are lines that even they won’t cross in their betrayal of American principles.<\/p>\n
