The frequency with which Donald Trump deliberately lies in order to keep his glassy-eyed flock of MAGA disciples both dumbed down and fired up is really pretty impressive. It’s a machine gun style of disseminating disinformation that his fellow felonious advisor, Steve Bannon calls “flooding the zone with shit.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Trump routinely inflates the statistics he cites for everything from the tariff revenue he claims to have received (that American consumers pay for), to the amount he has reduced drug prices (an impossible 1,200%), to the number of wars he has ended (precisely zero). And of course that extends to his egomaniacal bragging that his polling is now the highest it has ever been. Not only is that untrue, but…<\/p>\n

So naturally, when Trump brings up the issue of reforming the Supreme Court, he exaggerates whatever tiny speck of information he happened to come across while scrolling his dedicated propaganda platform, Truth Social<\/a><\/strong>. And on Friday morning Trump was excited to report<\/a><\/strong> some flagrantly false news about a Democratic proposal that exists only in his cartoon brain…<\/p>\n

“The Democrats number one policy push is the complete and total OBLITERATION of our great United States Supreme Court. They will do this on their very first day in office, through the simple Termination of the Filibuster, SHOULD THEY WIN THE UPCOMING ELECTIONS. The Radical Left Democrats are looking at 21 Justices, with immediate ascension. This would be terrible for our Country. Fear not, however, Republicans will not let it, or any of their other catastrophic policies, happen. Our Country is now in very good hands. MAGA!!!”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

First of all, Trump is the single worst source for information about what the “number one”<\/em> policies of Democrats are. And those policies are obviously not the “total OBLITERATION”<\/em> of the Supreme Court. In fact, Democrats have been laser-focused on the cost of living and affordability, a term that Trump says is “a Democrat scam,”<\/em> even as he calls himself the “affordability president.”<\/em><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

What Trump is whining about is the prospect of Democrats ending the Senate filibuster if they regain the Senate majority in next year’s elections. Which they appear to have a pretty decent shot at doing, But Trump regards terminating the filibuster as such a horrible idea that he is demanding that Republicans do it first.<\/p>\n

Trump bases his objection on his own prediction that, without the filibuster, Democrats would seek to expand the number of justices on the Supreme Court by 12 to a total of 21. Never mind that no Democrat in Congress has ever proposed that. Although there have been rational proposals to add just four new justices in order to correct the grossly partisan imbalance on the current Court. Those proposals include other reforms such as term limits and enforceable ethics standards. The latter of which an always ethically compromised Trump would never agree to.<\/p>\n

Trump is happy with the current MAGA majority on the Court. He appreciates rulings like the one just published that approved a racist gerrymander<\/a><\/strong> of congressional districts in Texas. The truth is that Trump has ulterior motives of his own. He wants Republicans to eliminate the filibuster so that he can get his radical and profoundly unpopular agenda through the Senate that, with a razor-thin Republican majority, he is failing to achieve.<\/p>\n

So Trump’s solution is to nuke the filibuster and screw at least half of the American people. Because the only things that he has ever been interested in are his own authoritarian grip on power and acquiring more wealth through grift and fraud. Which, ironically, are the same objectives of the MAGA justices on the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n
