IT’S TAX TIME! And the American people are contemplating just how much they have suffered during the reoccupation of the White House by America’s most affluent authoritarian, Donald Trump. Despite his campaign promises to lower the cost of living on day one, to solve what he called an immigration crisis, and to refrain from starting any new wars, Trump has failed to fulfill a single pledge made after fourteen months in office.<\/p>\n

To the contrary, Americans are paying more for everything from groceries to gasoline to housing to healthcare. They have been terrorized in their own neighborhoods by Trump’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) thugs. And the nation is currently embroiled in a reckless and illegal war against Iran that Trump has failed to coherently justify or provide an exit strategy for. No wonder his approval ratings are in the toilet. Even according to recent polls by his Ministry of Propaganda, Fox News…<\/p>\n

Trump isn’t a big fan of polls that don’t show him as adoringly worshipped by 110% majorities of the people. And he has been critical of Fox News for occasionally publishing polls that reveal his weaknesses. So expect him to be in a foul mood if his nursemaids show him the latest survey from Fox News that asked voters what they think of their tax burdens since he returned to office. According to Fox News<\/a>…<\/p>\n

“With the deadline to file taxes a week away, a record number of voters say their taxes are too high, according to the latest Fox News Poll. They are also bothered by the rich not paying their fair share and how the government uses their money. In addition, three-quarters feel government spending is wasteful \u2014 up almost 20 points since last year. […] A record 70% of voters think the taxes they pay are too high \u2014 up 11 points from last March and surpassing the previous high of 64% in March 2024.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

These are abysmal numbers that reflect Trump’s ignorance, as well as the deliberate malevolence of his policies. He never intended to serve the interests of the average American. He was always focused solely on enriching himself and his billionaire buddies. So, mission accomplished. Consequently, these results shouldn’t surprise anyone.<\/p>\n

The respondents to this survey cannot be dismissed as simply being whining malcontents who would complain about their taxes whatever they were. They are having valid reactions to the reality that they are encountering. Their dissatisfaction is borne out in a recent study<\/a><\/strong> by the non-partisan Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy that found that…<\/p>\n

“President Trump has raised taxes on most Americans in ways that more than offset the tax cuts he has signed into law. The net effect this year of all his tax policies is to increase taxes on the average American in all income groups aside from the richest 5 percent.” […]<\/p>\n

“For a large majority of Americans, the tax increase resulting from Trump\u2019s tariffs, along with the ending of the health care tax credits, more than offsets any tax cuts provided by OBBBA (One Big Beautiful Bill Act).”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Additional findings in the Fox News poll reveal that “What bothers people most about federal income taxes is the wealthy are not paying enough,”<\/em> and that “Disapproval of how President Trump is handling taxes has reached a record high of 64%, up 11 points from a year ago.”<\/em> Also, while three-quarters of Democrats, Republicans, and independents say that “a significant share of government spending is wasteful and inefficient,”<\/em> for some reason 69% of Republicans rate Trump positively for his handling of government waste. That is in contrast to “nearly all Democrats (90%) and a large majority of independents (80%) [who say he] is not doing a good job.”<\/em><\/p>\n

None of this augers well for Trump and his MAGA Republicans in the upcoming midterm elections. Most analysts are now predicting that Democrats will likely end up with majorities in both the House and the Senate. In other words, Trump’s taxation may result in better representation. And if that happens, Trump and his MAGA comrades will be facing political and legal accountability in – as Trump would say – levels they have never seen before.<\/p>\n
