America is now in the fourth month of the war with Iran that Donald Trump said would only last a few days. Instead what Trump has called a “little excursion”<\/em> has cost billions of dollars, thousands of lives, and the reputation of the United States as a diplomatic superpower.<\/p>\n

Throughout the conflict Trump has made repeated promises that a deal to end the war was imminent. Those promises were quickly broken when Iran disputed that any agreement was made, followed by Trump issuing more threats that amounted to war crimes and blaming the breakdown on everything from Iran’s “dishonorable”<\/em> leaders, to “radical lunatic”<\/em> Democrats, to former Presidents Joe Biden and Barack Obama.<\/p>\n

On Saturday morning Trump took time off from planning his 80th birthday bash on the lawn of the White House<\/a><\/strong> with a bunch of sweaty, half naked UFC fighters, brutally beating each other, to post a comment<\/a><\/strong> that put his derangement on display on his dedicated propaganda platform, Truth Social<\/a><\/strong>, about yet another alleged “peace”<\/em> deal with Iran. His comment was typically littered with lies, self-exaltations, and derogatory remarks about his political foes. What follows are a few choice excerpts with annotations. Trump began by saying that…<\/p>\n

“Barack Hussein Obama\u2019s Deal with Iran, the JCPOA, was an easy, beautiful, smooth road to a Nuclear Weapon.”<\/strong>
\nActually, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action<\/a><\/strong> (JCPOA) states explicitly in the first paragraph that “Iran reaffirms that under no circumstances will Iran ever seek, develop or acquire any nuclear weapons.”<\/em> And that prohibition would be monitored and enforced by the independent International Atomic Energy Agency.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

“My Agreement with Iran is the exact opposite.”<\/strong>
\nFirst of all, there is no agreement at this time. What Trump is talking about is just a “Memorandum of Understanding”<\/em> that proposes a 60 day ceasefire to continue talks in the future. It is not in any way binding and has no independent verification. Nevertheless, Trump added the preposterous claim that “they [Iran] no longer want a Nuclear Weapon.”<\/em> Yeah, right.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

“The Deal is scheduled to get signed tomorrow.”<\/strong>
\nOf course it is. And since we have Trump’s word on this we can rest assured that it is likely not going to happen. But even if it does, it is still only a non-binding document of future intent. Still, Trump bragged that “after it is signed, the Hormuz Strait is OPEN TO ALL>”<\/em> Well, it was open to all before he started this war. So he’s admitting that there has been nothing gained.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

“Unlike Obama\u2019s Hundreds of Billions of Dollars in payments to them…no money will exchange hands.”<\/strong>
\nOnce again, Trump is lying about Obama’s plan making payments of “Hundreds of Billions of Dollars”<\/em> to Iran. Iran got less than $2 billion. And that was just the unfreezing of Iran’s own money that was being held in foreign banks. More importantly, Trump is lying about his own plan<\/a><\/strong> that calls for unfreezing $24 billion in Iranian funds, as well as an additional “$300 billion in reconstruction money.”<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

“[W]e have the ultimate alternative, hopefully never to be used again!”<\/strong>
\nThis is how Trump closed his comment. It sounds very much like a threat to use nuclear weapons against Iran. Which is a lousy way to advance his alleged signing of a peace deal.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Usually Trump says that whatever bullshit promise he is making will be fulfilled in two weeks. So it’s good news of sorts that we will only have to wait until tomorrow to see if he welches on this one. But even if there is a signing of some paper promise, Trump will still have 60 days to screw it up. Which is way more than he needs.<\/p>\n
