FBI Director Kash Patel Tells Fox News He’s Filing a Lawsuit Over Allegations of His Drinking

The brief tenure of Kash Patel as Donald Trump’s FBI Director has failed to produce much of anything to brag about. He has humiliated himself and the Bureau with his inappropriate antics in office. Such as his drunken partying with members of the U.S. Olympic Hockey team. Or flying on government jets to see his girlfriend, a country-western singer, in concert.

Now Patel is taking on one of Trump’s most recognizable flaws. Throughout his career in both business and politics, Trump has demonstrated his affinity for lawsuits. He has made himself the most litigious president in the history of the United States. Although his legal misadventures usually don’t work out very well for him.

On Sunday morning’s episode of Maria Bartiromo’s program on Fox News, She invited Patel to come on to respond to some recent accusations of dangerously inappropriate behavior as reported in an extraordinarily well-sourced article in “The Atlantic.” Bartiromo began by asking Patel about the article. Which led to the following exchange…

Patel: Maria, I am happy to announce on your show that we are not going to take this laying down. You want to attack my character? Come at me. Bring it on. I’ll see you in court.
Bartiromo: So you’re gonna sue them?
Patel: Absolutely. It’s coming tomorrow
Bartiromo: Tomorrow you will be dropping a lawsuit against The Atlantic?
Patel: Yes I will. For defamation. And for – you know what Maria? – We have to fight back against the fake news…If the fake news Mafia wants to ring their drum beat as loud as they can, they’re never gonna stop me.

REALLY? It’s good to know that America’s FBI boss is devoting his full attention to the things that matter most to the American people. His pursuit of criminals in the “fake news Mafia” will surely make people feel more safe in their homes and neighborhoods.

Patel is displaying the same sort of fragile ego for which his boss Trump is so well known. And of course, he’s only doing this to please Trump, who is disappointed that there haven’t been more arrests of his political enemies.

However, Patel isn’t helping himself or his reputation. Notice that he never actually denies any of the facts in The Atlantic’s story. What’s more, he’s going to be ripped to shreds during the discovery process if he actually files this lawsuit.

The author of The Atlantic’s article, Sarah Fitzpatrick, did a great job of putting together credible sources, including many from within the FBI. She wrote of Patel that…

“He is erratic, suspicious of others, and prone to jumping to conclusions before he has necessary evidence, according to the more than two dozen people I interviewed about Patel’s conduct, including current and former FBI officials, staff at law-enforcement and intelligence agencies, hospitality-industry workers, members of Congress, political operatives, lobbyists, and former advisers.” […]

“They said that the problems with his conduct go well beyond what has been previously known, and include both conspicuous inebriation and unexplained absences. His behavior has often alarmed officials at the FBI and the Department of Justice, even as he won support from the White House…Several officials told me that Patel’s drinking has been a recurring source of concern across the government.” […]

“On multiple occasions in the past year, members of his security detail had difficulty waking Patel because he was seemingly intoxicated, according to information supplied to Justice Department and White House officials.”

What we learn from The Atlantic’s story is that Trump’s Secretary of War Crimes, Pete Hegseth, isn’t the only lush in the Trump administration. Patel is exposed as wholly unfit to serve according to his own staff and security detail. The article reveals the he frequently exhibits severe paranoia with regard to anyone who criticizes him or Trump; that he has led a purge of experienced FBI agents for failing to be sufficiently worshipful of Dear Leader; and that he has jeopardized investigations by publicly releasing information that had not been verified, and was later found to be false.

In other words, Patel is just as unqualified and incompetent as just about every other member of Trump’s Cabinet. And following the recent firings of Homeland Security Secretary, Kristi Noem, and Attorney General Pam Bondi, it may be Patel who is next in line to hear Trump’s hokey catchphrase from his old reality TV game show, The Apprentice: “You’re fired!”

Trump-Backed Media Merger Blocked By Federal Court, Ruling that it Would Violate Antitrust Laws

The consolidation of giant media conglomerates has produced a handful of monopolistic corporations that are mostly run by right-wing billionaires. Oligarchs like Rupert Murdoch and David Ellison wield enormous influence while sucking up to their White House benefactor, Donald Trump, for regulatory favors.

Among the recent mergers on the media’s calendar is one between two television station groups that each own dozens of stations nationwide. Nexstar and Tegna agreed to merge earlier this year after getting a rubber stamp approval by the Trump administration, with Trump’s personal assistance. It’s the sort of totalitarian domination that dictators like Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un enjoy, and that Trump envies and seeks to emulate.

However, the Nexstar-Tegna merger that Trump sought to steamroll into place has run into some turbulence. A group of state Attorneys General filed a lawsuit to quash the merger, and they have just received a favorable court ruling that stops it in its tracks. As reported by NPR…

“A federal judge has blocked local TV giant Nexstar’s takeover of a leading rival, Tegna, until an antitrust trial plays out. If Nexstar loses, it could be compelled to unwind the $6.2 billion deal, in which it absorbed 65 additional stations.”

NPR elaborated saying that if the merger were to go through, Nexstar would wind up owning…

“…265 local stations in 44 states and the District of Columbia, reaching 80% of the nation’s households. Those are all unprecedented figures. Federal competition law limits companies to less than half that level [39%].”

The prospect of yet another massive megalith controlling that much of the mediasphere is more than a little troubling to anyone who cherishes the free press. Particularly if the merger is in violation of the law. And there is no mistaking Nexstar’s political leanings. They were the first station group to take Jimmy Kimmel off the air after he made a couple of harmless jokes about news coverage of Charlie Kirk.

For his part, Trump weighed in on both sides of the merger debate. On November 23, 2025, he posted a comment expressing his opposition to the merger on his failing Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, saying “If this would also allow the Radical Left Networks to “enlarge,” I would not be happy…If anything, make them SMALLER!” But more recently, on February 7, 2026, he posted a supportive comment saying “We need more competition against THE ENEMY, the Fake News National TV Networks.”

Trump’s waffling on the merger is typical of his inability to form a coherent position on anything. He often just rides with whatever he was told last by one of his flunkies. In this case he also chose to fulfill the wishes of arch-conservative moguls who have funneled funds into his various scams.

Meanwhile, state AGs are also closely examining Paramount’s pending acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, which includes CNN. Hopefully that will be the next monopolistic mega-merger to collapse.

Herr Trump is Scared Witless of Jessica Tarlov and Demands that Fox News ‘GET HER OFF THE AIR!’

There has never been a president who is more rattled by criticism, or who is so cowardly or wears the mantle of victimhood like a shield.

Despite the present tribulations of the nation and the world, Trump remains laser focused on the issues that matter most to the American citizenry. Such as his fixation on how he is portrayed in the media that he regularly maligns as “the enemy of the people.” Never mind that his animosity toward the free press is so warped that it fails to connect with reality.

On Friday morning Trump was performing what he thinks are the highest priority duties of a president: Pounding out childish rants on his failing Twitter ripoff, Truth Social. For the most part his hapless harangues consist of self-exaltations, vicious insults, and flagrant lies. And on this particular occasion, Trump hit the trifecta.

The bee in the crybaby’s bonnet this time was something he saw while watching his Ministry of Propaganda, Fox News. Jessica Tarlov, the sole liberal on Fox’s five member panel program, “The Five,” must have uttered something truthful which always outrages Trump. So he posted a comment saying that…

“I am watching one of the Least Attractive and Talented People on all of Television, Jessica Tarlov. Her voice is so grating and terrible, I had to ‘turn her off!’ Her Democrat soundbites are FAKE. She makes up ‘Poll Numbers,’ and nobody challenges her, because she is so boring. I have among the best Poll Numbers I have ever had, and why shouldn’t I, ALL THE COUNTRY DOES IS WIN. CNN had me at 100%, saying they never saw that before. GET HER OFF THE AIR, SHE IS BAD FOR OUR COUNTRY! I hear Megyn Kelly, Tucker Carlson, and Candace Owens are dying fast. Their numbers are terrible. Nobody believes them anymore. They were FAKE MAGA, and now they’ve been exposed! President DJT”

Trump is hate-watching Jessica Tarlov on Fox News and demanding that she be taken off the air. Because that's how President Snowflake spends his time.He's also exhibiting his dementia, claiming to have "the best poll numbers I've ever had." Even though he's at historically low levels.

Notice that the first thing that Trump feels compelled to address is his opinion about Tarlov’s appearance. That’s typical of Trump who is obsessed with the most shallow aspects of life and is intellectually and emotionally incapable of comprehending anything deeper.

Then Trump launches into his lies about Tarlov’s remarks that he says are “FAKE.” Specifically, he is referring to her reporting of his abysmal approval ratings that he says are “among the best Poll Numbers I have ever had.” That, of course, is the polar opposite of reality. In fact, his current polling is literally the worst of either of his two terms in office.

Trump then brags that “ALL THE COUNTRY DOES IS WIN.” Apparently Trump thinks that skyrocketing costs for everything from gas to groceries to healthcare, is winning. Not to mention that the U.S. is still at war with Iran. He adds to his bragging that a poll says that “CNN had me at 100%.” But he forgot to mention that it was a poll of only MAGA supporters, who represent a measly 24% of the electorate.

Flummoxed by Tarlov’s factual smackdown, Trump resorts to his habitual tendency to threaten and bully. So rather than offer a substantive rebuttal, Trump dishes out orders to Fox News to “GET HER OFF THE AIR.” Because he just can’t handle ever being exposed to negative news about himself. And he believes that he has the totalitarian authority to dictate what goes on the air and what doesn’t.

Finally, Trump takes some swings at some formerly faithful MAGA-tists, Megyn Kelly, Tucker Carlson, and Candace Owens, who he now says “are dying fast.” Actually, they are just accepting that the tide is turning for Trump and his MAGA cult, so they are deserting the sinking ship. Trump was reacting to a CNN segment from a month ago wherein they compared the favorable ratings among Republicans only of Trump (61) to those of Tucker Carlson (7).

Trump: “Tucker is a Low IQ person – Always easy to beat, and highly overrated!!! So are Megyn Kelly, ‘Candace’ (Really Dumb and mentally ill!), and Bankrupt Alex Jones, who is completely‘fried.’”

Megyn Kelly, Tucker Carlson, and Candace Owens were some of the most fervent supporters of Trump. They defended him unflinchingly. They furiously attacked his critics. However, they have become disillusioned to some degree by his failure to keep his campaign promises to release the Epstein files, to refrain from starting any new wars, and his recent episodes of blasphemy. Consequently, Trump now regards them as “low IQ losers.” But it wasn’t always so for Trump. And CNN also did a piece on that…

It was a depiction so offensive that he was eventually persuaded to delete it.

However, Trump’s meme deletion didn’t extend to his still flaming megalomania. He later posted another picture of himself with Jesus putting his arm around him, as if they had the same close friendship that Trump had with Jeffrey Epstein. Trump also lashed at out Pope Leo for daring to take a position against war and the killing of innocents. Then he sent his FCC chairman, Brendan Carr, out to deliver another punch to the Pope…

On Thursday morning, Trump’s Secretary of War Crimes, Pete Hegseth, joined in the spiritual spat at a press conference on the Iran war to update the MAGA media hacks that Hegseth permits to attend these pseudo-news charades. At one point Hegseth interrupted himself to go on a bender about the media that he despises and can’t stop complaining about. He whined…

“To the American media, I just can’t help but notice the endless stream of garbage, the relentlessly negative coverage you cannot resist peddling, despite the historic and important success of this effort and the success of our troops. Sometimes it’s hard to figure out what side some of you are actually on. It’s incredibly unpatriotic.”

It sounds like Hegseth spends way too much time watching television. And his viewing habits seem to consist mainly of hate-watching news programs that aren’t wholly worshipful of Trump. Plus, he seems to think that it is unpatriotic to report the truth and that the press is supposed to be uncritical of Dear Leader. Perhaps he would be more comfortable with the media in North Korea. But he was just getting started. He continued with a retelling of a biblical story that he allegedly heard in church on Sunday, saying that…

“Jesus entered a synagogue and healed a man with a withered hand. The Pharisees came to watch…they witnessed a literal miracle. It didn’t matter to them. They were only there to explain away the goodness in pursuit of their agenda…Our press are like these Pharisees.”

So in Hegseth’s mind Trump is Jesus, and his illegal war against Iran is a miracle of healing? Hegseth is using a biblical story to justify Trump’s massacre of Iranian civilians. And in the process he characterizes the media as unpatriotic hypocrites trying to destroy his messiah.

Hegseth isn’t helping to dismiss the implications of Trump posting that deranged meme of him as Jesus. And it’s awkward that he uses an analogy that features a man with a withered hand, considering the gross deformations of Trump’s hand.

It just proves that the messiah complex that Trump suffers from is spreading to his cult disciples. They all see him as an infallible prophet of the divine. He can do wrong. Never mind his multiple divorces, serial infidelity, adjudication as a rapist, affinity for pedophiles, dozens of sexual abuse victims, and myriad other immoralities including criminal fraud, and breach of constitutional laws.

All of that is forgiven because that’s what they do in cults. And Hegseth is desperately striving to be recognized as Trump’s most faithful devotee. To that end, Hegseth issued a warped biblical warning that had a familiar ring to it…

Trump is APPALLED that Fox News Reported on Tom Steyer, a Candidate for Governor of California

Poor crybaby Donald Trump is very upset by Fox News reporting on the governor’s race in California. Well, he’s only upset by part of it. Apparently Trump thinks that Fox News should only be covering Republican candidates for governor. And even then, only the MAGA candidate that he endorsed.

On Wednesday morning Trump was busy performing what he thinks are his presidential duties: Watching Fox News and posting asinine comments on his failing Twitter ripoff, Truth Social. Never mind that there is a war going on in Iran that has spread through the Middle East. Or that the U.S. economy is tanking. Or that his approval ratings are in the toilet as the midterm election is approaching.

Rather than addressing the critical issues that the American people are most interested in, Trump was raging over what he regards as an atrocity committed by his Ministry of Propaganda, Fox News. Trump pounded out a furious rant concerning something he just saw on Fox about the California governor’s race…

“Why is FoxNews showing SLEAZEBAG Tom Steyer, doing a big piece on him right now, and probably putting him ‘into play,’ instead of talking about Republican Candidates, and really good ones like Steve Hilton, and Republicans? How can a Republican expect to win that State, with their Mail In Voting and Rigged Elections, when you have FoxNews promoting the Democrats? Nobody cares about Tom Steyer, he is a LOSER, but Fox is making it possible for a guy like this to win. VOTE FOR STEVE HILTON, AND TURN CALIFORNIA AROUND! President DONALD J. TRUMP”

OMG! Fox News actually did a story that included a Democratic candidate for governor of California? How could they? After all, Tom Steyer, according to Trump, is just a “SLEAZEBAG” and a “LOSER” and “nobody cares” about him. Which are all facets of character that Trump knows well due to all them being core parts of his own character.

Trump’s assertion that nobody cares about Steyer flies in the face of reality as he is currently leading in the polls for all candidates – Democratic and Republican – running in the upcoming primary. And Trump’s claim that Fox News put Steyer “into Play.” ignores Steyer’s $120 million advertising campaign.

In Trump’s cartoon brain, Fox News is obligated to only do stories about Republicans, and only about Trump if they can swing it. So he whines that Fox should have been reporting on the GOP candidate, Steve Hilton, who happens to be a former Fox News contributor. What a coincidence.

Adding to the absurdity of Trump’s comment, Fox News had actually just done a story about Hilton less than a hour before Trump’s post. The Hilton segment was mostly vicious and false anti-Steyer ranting. The “big piece” about Steyer that rattled Trump wasn’t much more than a mention of his fundraising and his standing in the polls along with the other candidates. And it also contained some swipes at Steyer’s rational immigration proposals that Trump and the GOP regard as radical leftist policies.

Finally, Trump also had to throw in a dig at “Mail In Voting and Rigged Elections” as the reason he thinks that Republicans can’t win in California. Of course it couldn’t have anything to do with their radical right policies that Californians abhor, could it? Also, someone should remind Trump of Arnold Schwarzenegger, who managed to overcome the election rigging and win two terms as governor.

If Trump really thinks that Fox News viewers are going to be persuaded to vote for Steyer given the negative reports they put on the air, he is dumber than we thought. Likewise, putting more of Hilton on isn’t going to help him with the vast majority of California’s voters who don’t watch Fox News. But if whining on Truth Social makes Trump feel better and keeps him from doing greater harm with his wars, his economic fiascoes, and his relentless breaches of law and morality, then let him go ahead and do that. Like all babies, it’s best to keep his attention focused on trivial distractions.

The White House Correspondents Association Awards Are Gonna Really Piss Trump Off

On Saturday, April 25, the White House Correspondents Association (WHCA) will be holding their annual dinner to honor members and raise money for journalism scholarships. It’s an event that mixes politics, news, and entertainment. The audience is mostly reporters who cover the White House and Donald Trump, along with their sometimes odd guests.

Each year a there is a guest MC who, in the past, has been a professional comedian. Last year the comedian, Amber Ruffin, was axed after Trump threw a tantrum. This year, it will be hypnotist, Oz Pearlman. Read into that what you will. This will also be the first year that Trump has attended the event as president. In his five previous opportunities he was too afraid of facing the humor that is commonly part of the festivities.

With Trump’s attendance at the dinner he is expected to give a speech. It will be interesting to hear his predictably hostile remarks before the audience of journalists that he frequently refers to as “the enemy of the people.” He is also likely going to be subjected to some good natured criticism in remarks by some of the other speakers. But he is notoriously incapable of tolerating any criticism of any kind. So expect to see video of him scowling much of the time. Which will be especially true when the WHCA is handing its annual awards for excellence.

The WHCA has announced the winners of these awards. and they are not going to make Trump very happy. According to the WHCA press release…

It is customary for the president to present some these awards. But it is difficult to imagine Trump doing so considering the recipients and the subject matter of their winning stories. At least not without Trump making some idiotic and infantile insults in the process. Which is all we can expect from him.

Trump’s Lawsuit Against the Wall Street Journal for Reporting on Him and Epstein is Thrown Out

The competition for “Most Litigious President” has long been decided with Donald Trump coming in at the head of the pack by insurmountable margins. Trump is well known to sue anyone or anything that dares to tell the truth about him, or pursues a policy path that he disagrees with.

Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein

The list of Trump’s legal victims includes politicians, universities, government agencies, legal firms, and perhaps more than anything else, media and journalists. Suing the media is one of the methods that Trump regularly employs to intimidate the free press, and/or to exact retribution on them for doing their job. And if Trump can’t muzzle the media, he will simply banish them.

Fortunately, there is still some measure of integrity within the American judicial system. And Trump’s batting average with his loopy lawsuits is pitifully low. The most recent example of this is a suit that Trump filed last year against the Wall Street Journal over a well documented and sourced story concerning Trump’s unsavory relationship with child sex trafficker and pedophile, Jeffrey Epstein. As reported by NBC News…

“A federal judge in Florida on Monday dismissed President Donald Trump’s $10 billion defamation lawsuit against The Wall Street Journal over a story on a bawdy 50th birthday card he allegedly sent to Jeffrey Epstein. U.S. District Judge Darrin Gayles tossed the case after finding Trump’s suit “comes nowhere close” to reaching the standard of actual malice.”

Trump’s lawsuit was utterly meritless from the start. Particularly the claim of $10 billion in damages. The birthday card, that Trump said didn’t exist, was later provided to Congress by the Epstein estate. In addition to his birthday greetings, Trump expressed his hopes for his good friend that “may every day be another wonderful secret.” Which is ultra creepy given everything we know now about Epstein and Trump.

Trump has already said that he plans to refile the suit. But his record of success in these matters should have persuaded him to let it go. Here are just a few of the outcomes of some earlier lawsuits…

  • A case against CNN for reporting about his “Big Lie” that he won the 2020 election was dismissed.
  • A case against Harvard University, who prevailed in litigation against Trump when he tried to withhold federal grants.
  • Harvard also won when Trump tried to block the enrollment of international students.
  • Several law firms won temporary restraining orders prohibiting Trump from punishing them for engaging in litigation against him.
  • Journalist Bob Woodward beat him in a suit where Trump sought to prohibit him from using audio tapes recorded during an interview.
  • A case against Hillary Clinton alleging that she lied in her campaign against him in 2016. Trump was ordered to pay Clinton nearly $1 million for legal fees.
  • And writer E. Jean Carroll scored about $90 million in a judgment against Trump for defamation in a suit involving his sexual abuse of her in a department store dressing room.

The Wall Street Journal was right to fight Trump’s legal harassment. The lesson that other victims should take from this is that if you fight Trump, you’re likely to win. Capitulating will get you nothing but more harassment, while exposing your weakness to Trump who will surely exploit it. And beating Trump’s malicious lawsuits has the added benefit of preserving the integrity of the defendant and gaining the respect of the nation.

Trump’s Outrage at Iran for Blockading Hormuz Has Driven Him to New Depths of Depravity

The peace talks between the United States and Iran that Donald Trump announced with such great fanfare, have already collapsed after only one day. Trump had predicted that they would lead to an agreement with Iran surrendering to his every demand.

Instead, the war will continue indefinitely with Trump promising even more savage attacks and threats of war crimes that violate international law. In the meantime, Trump remains laser-focused on who he regards as America’s real enemies…

The day after the charade of peace talks broke down, Trump took to his dedicated propaganda platform, Truth Social, to lash out with unbridled anger at Iran and pretty much the rest of the entire world that isn’t submitting to his divine will. He posted an interminably long comment that said in part that…

“Effective immediately, the United States Navy, the Finest in the World, will begin the process of BLOCKADING any and all Ships trying to enter, or leave, the Strait of Hormuz. […] I have also instructed our Navy to seek and interdict every vessel in International Waters that has paid a toll to Iran. No one who pays an illegal toll will have safe passage on the high seas.”

These remarks contain a bucket load of bullpucky. Let’s break them down, shall we? To begin with, it is a pitiful demonstration of Trump’s derangement that he is complaining about Iran blockading the Strait of Hormuz, and that his solution to that atrocity is blockade Hormuz himself. This is obviously a negotiating tactic that Trump learned from the movie Blazing Saddles…

Trump also made a point of threatening every ship that pays a toll to Iran to go through the Strait. That is a wide ranging threat that could impact much of the world including China, Russia, India, Iraq, Pakistan, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Japan, and Greece, who have all already made agreements for safe passage. There is no evidence at the present time if those agreements included paying Iran. However, if Trump were to carry out his threat, it could expand the conflict to World War status by dragging countries like China and Russia into it. They would likely be very unhappy if the U.S. were to interdict their ships.

Another problem with this threat is that there is no way to know whether any nation has paid a toll to Iran. Particularly if the tolls are paid with cryptocurrency. Neither Iran nor the countries currently traversing the Strait have disclosed whether any funds were transferred.

There is also a glaring hypocrisy in Trump’s threat. After all, when tolls were previously brought up, he didn’t shy away from them. Rather, he simply said that he would make sure that the U.S. got a cut. “We’re thinking of doing it as a joint venture,” Trump said. And that “It’s a beautiful thing.” What’s more, Trump still hasn’t explained how Iran could blockade the Strait since he insists that “Their Navy is gone, their Air Force is gone.”

So in response to an Iranian blockade, Trump threatens to make his own blockade, also threatens the world’s shipping trades, forgets his joint toll offer, and ignores his prior claims that Iran had been totally defeated. Is that the behavior of a “stable genius.” Trump doesn’t belong in the Strait of Hormuz. He belongs in a straight jacket.

AMERICA FIRST? Trump Promises To Use ‘The Economic Might of the US To Strengthen Hungary’s Economy’

The political centerpiece of Donald Trump’s occupation of the White House has been the cheesy sloganeering that he stole from 1920s American fascists: “Make America Great Again.” That message presupposes that America wasn’t great to begin with. And Trump expanded that pessimistic point of view by insisting that he would always put “America First.”

Trump’s promises with regard to his commitment to American supremacy are like all of his other promises. They are flimsy and unreliable and subject to being abandoned whenever they don’t advance his personal interests. And through it all Trump manages to imagine himself as a beloved leader that can do no wrong.

In the fourteen months since Trump returned to power he has plainly demonstrated his ignorance and incompetence. He has wrecked the economy with higher inflation due to his tariffs and idiotic trade policies. He has destroyed faith in the law with his invasions of U.S. cities by ICE thugs and persecution of political foes. And he has launched a reckless and illegal war against Iran.

So how does all of that translate into fulfilling Trump’s pledge of achieving American greatness? Obviously it does not. And Trump’s response to that record of abysmal failure is to spend millions of taxpayer dollars erecting tributes to himself, such as a vanity ballroom, an arch of triumph, and plastering his name and pumpkin-hued mug on everything from the Kennedy Center to U.S. currency.

Trump is engaging in a festival of ego-fluffing that is reminiscent of the totalitarian dictators that he idolizes and seeks to emulate. Among them are Russia’s Vladimir Putin, North Korea’s Kim Jong Un, and Hungary’s Viktor Orbán. The latter of which is lately on Trump’s mind due to the election on Sunday that he is predicted to lose.

Trump has given Orbán his “Complete and Total Endorsement.” He even sent his Vice-President, JD Vance, to Hungary last week to campaign for Orbán. And most recently Trump posted a supportive comment on his failing Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, to buttress Orbán’s losing effort, saying that “My Administration stands ready to use the full Economic Might of the United States to strengthen Hungary’s Economy.”

Good to know. With everything that is going wrong in the U.S., Trump is focusing squarely on the political travails of a Hungarian authoritarian. And he’s using the “the full Economic Might” of the U.S. to bribe Hungarian voters to reelect someone that they clearly don’t want. Perhaps the American people would prefer that Might to be used to shore up America’s healthcare system, or resolve the homeless crisis, or improve education, or even just pay down the debt that Trump has exploded. But Trump has other priorities that include propping up his heroes.

For some background on Orbán, historian Timothy Snyder wrote an essay that summarizes much of the current obsession that Trump has with Orbán. He notes that Orbán is a subversive member of the European Union who often works to advance the interests of Europe’s enemies. Snyder wrote in part that…

“Viktor Orbán, the prime minister of Hungary, is a central figure in the international far right, and indeed the man, more than any other, who created the networks that normalized what he himself calls ‘illiberalism.’ Should he lose, as all signs indicate he will, this would be blow to far more familiar figures such as JD Vance and Donald Trump, who are Orbán’s pupils.” […]

“Orbán has done more than anyone else to generate negative propaganda about the European Union, treating it as a hostile enemy. […] His government opened EU territory to Russian and Chinese intelligence operations.”

There may, however, be a silver lining to the campaigning by Trump and Vance for Orbán. As reported by Newsweek…

“The likelihood Viktor Orbán winning Hungary’s upcoming parliamentary election has dropped since U.S. Vice President JD Vance made a speech endorsing him, according to the latest betting odds.”

Betting platforms Kalshi and Polymarket both show Orbán’s chances of winning have declined significantly since Trump’s endorsement and Vance’s visit. So maybe we should encourage Trump and company to do more campaigning for world leaders, and even for candidates here at home. His name is like poison to many voters.

UPDATE: Orbán not only lost, he lost big, with the winning Tisza Party gaining a supermajority in the Hungarian Parliament.

Trump Lies

Trump appears determined to set new records in his second term. Not just for the quantity of lies, but also for the vast distant between his lying and reality. In recent days Trump has claimed that he won his illegal war with Iran weeks ago, despite continuing to fight it. He claims that the economy that he wrecked is the best ever. He brags that he has the highest approval ratings of any president. But even his Ministry of Propaganda, Fox News, isn’t buying most of that.

On Friday Trump’s chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Brendan Carr, was on the podcast of Benny Johnson, an ultra rightist Trump-fluffer who is known to have been paid by Russian propaganda outlets. In the course of their discussion Carr, revealed some startling news about Pope Leo XIV…

“Today, I saw the Vatican called out U.S. news outlets for being fake news for running a false story about a Department of War meme. Even the Pope is calling out America’s fake news! This all flows from President Trump.”

First of all, it needs to be pointed out how ridiculous it is for Carr to be complaining about “fake news” as a guest on the podcast of a Kremlin stooge. And there is only one news network that was forced to pay nearly a billion dollars for lying – that’s Fox News.

More to the point, Carr is brazenly lying about what he claims that the Pope said. There is no evidence that the Pope “called out U.S. news outlets” regarding any memes referencing the Department of Defense (For the Record: There is no such thing as the Department of War). Carr’s claim that “the Pope is calling out America’s fake news” is itself fake news. It never happened, and Carr didn’t bother to cite his alleged source.

That’s not to say that the Pope has never spoken about the media. He has. But in a measured way that encompassed all of it without any partisan leanings. For instance, the Pope recently said that…

“Often, the proclamation of truth is obscured by what we today call “fake news” — lies, insinuations, and unfounded accusations. Yet, in the face of such obstacles, the truth does not remain hidden; rather, it comes forth to meet us, living and radiant, illuminating even the deepest darkness.”

Notice that there is no mention of American media or the Department of Defense in the Pope’s remarks. He is criticizing the broader, worldwide media environment, and advocating for greater attention to be paid to truth finding. Carr made up the rest. And he is using the Pope as a prop to advance his dishonest attacks on the free press. Instead, Carr ignores the Pope’s sharp criticisms of the corporate monoliths that control so much of the media, and that are run by Trump’s billionaire buddies. Such as when…

“…he warned about the danger of having a ‘handful of companies’ be in control of so much data and be able to ‘subtly influence behavior and even rewrite human history.'” […]

“Media and communication companies cannot allow algorithms designed to win the battle for a few extra seconds of attention at any cost to prevail over their professional values, which are aimed at seeking the truth.”

That said, Carr deserves some credit for admitting that “This all flows from President Trump.” Indeed it does. The Lyin’ King is the role model for the deceitful behavior of his flunkies. They follow his lead to lie shamelessly at every opportunity. But that can’t go on for long. So they should heed the the Pope’s warning that “the truth does not remain hidden.” In a very real sense, the truth is Trump’s enemy.
