WHUT? Trump’s Press Secretary Reveals that ‘the Entire Pentagon is Working Against’ Pete Hegseth

Who could have imagined a few months ago, that when Donald Trump nominated Pete Hegseth, a weekend Fox News host with no experience whatsoever running a sprawling, bureaucratic institution, to head up the Pentagon, that it would result in being one of the worst fiascos in government administration history?

The obvious answer to the question above is: EVERYONE! Or at least everyone who had not been indoctrinated into the Cult of Trump. And it didn’t really require much imagination. The predictions of certain calamity and chaos were ubiquitous among military and management professionals. In fact the notion that an incompetent, alcoholic, TV talking head like Hegseth could succeed was preposterous from the start. Even a devoted Trump-fluffer on Newsmax thought so.

It didn’t take long for the predictions about Hegseth to come true. Last month it was revealed that he participated in a Signal chat with some Trump regime colleagues where he disclosed U.S. plans to attack Houthi rebels in Yemen. After getting caught leaking such sensitive information on an unsecure platform, Hegseth lied that he had done so, despite the documented evidence.

Making matters worse, on Monday it was reported that the incident above was not a one-off. According to NBC News…

“Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth used his personal phone to send information about U.S. military operations in Yemen to a 13-person Signal group chat, including his wife and his brother, two sources with knowledge of the matter confirmed to NBC News. He did so after an aide had warned him to be careful not to share sensitive information on an unsecure communications system before the Yemen operation, the sources said.”

This new revelation has prompted more questions from the press about Hegseth’s alleged competence. And the Trump team is reacting in its typical manner by circling the wagons and denying reality. However, in this case, Trump’s press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, may have said a bit too much. In response to a question by Brian Kilmeade on Fox News, Leavitt let loose insisting that…

“The president stands strongly behind Secretary Hegseth, who is doing a phenomenal job leading the Pentagon. And this is what happens when the entire Pentagon is working against you and against the monumental change that you are trying to implement. […] Unfortunately, there have been people at that building who don’t like the change the Secretary is trying to bring, so they are leaking and they are lying to the mainstream media.”

Leavitt: "The president stands strongly behind Secretary Hegseth … this is what happens when the entire Pentagon is working against you and working against the monumental change you are trying to implement. Secretary Hegseth was nominated because he's standing up for the warfighters."

Leavitt’s declaration that Trump “stands strongly behind Secretary Hegseth” is not going to age well when Hegseth is eventually fired. And how could he not be, if what Leavitt says is true. If “the entire Pentagon is working against” Hegseth, his continued employment should be untenable. There are 20,000 people working in the Pentagon. It wouldn’t make much sense to fire all of them and keep Hegseth, would it? And how the heck can he command a workforce of that many people who think that he is unfit to serve?

You have to wonder by what measure Trump and Leavitt regard Hegseth as “doing a phenomenal job.” He has done nothing but embarrass the nation with his malfeasance in office and multiple hits on Fox News. He even took time out from the White House Easter Egg event to whine to the media about the media…

This is what the media does. They take anonymous sources from disgruntled former employees, and then they try to slash and burn people and ruin their reputations. Not going to work with me. Because we’re changing the Defense Department, putting the Pentagon back in the hands of war-fighters. And anonymous smears from disgruntled former employees on old news doesn’t matter.”

There is an abundance of derp in that whine. First of all, how can he blame the media for reporting what they have been told by his own top aides? Secondly, the news is not old. It was reported today. Third, it isn’t anonymous. The names of the sources are in the stories. Finally, those “disgruntled former employees” are people that Hegseth hired himself in the few weeks that he’s been on the job.

This is what you get when you put people in charge of critical government agencies who have never demonstrated any ability or aptitude to perform those jobs. And so many people in Trump’s Cabinet suffer from the same lack of experience and skill. A shockingly large number of them (20 so far) are, like Hegseth, from Fox News. Consequently, it is fair to assume that things are gonna get worse going forward. So buckle up, America. It’s gonna be a bumpy ride.

The Committee to Protect Journalists Releases a Frightening Advisory for US Bound Reporters

The long-running, seething animosity that Donald Trump has for the free press continues to be on full display with each new day’s attack on the media that fails to sufficiently worship him. And it isn’t just an attack on the reporters than he singles out for his infantile insults, it’s an attack on the Constitution and the keystone American principles of freedom of speech.

Despite his addiction to demanding from the media the constant attention that he craves, Trump can’t stop lambasting them when they accurately report on his recurrent foibles and flagrant crimes. His assault on the media regularly descends to wholly unconstitutional threats to shut down the outlets that he disapproves of and even to arrest and incarcerate reporters who offend him by doing nothing more than telling the truth.

Among the consequences of Trump’s perverse and un-America behavior is the recent advisory from the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), warning reporters about the risks they now face should they consider traveling to the United States. The advisory states that…

“Foreign nationals whose countries do not meet U.S. vetting standards may be barred entry. Journalists will not be exempt and should anticipate potential restrictions or questioning when traveling to or from the United States.” […]

“Increased border control, inconsistent enforcement, and broad discretionary authority among border agents suggest an unpredictable environment which warrants proactive preparation.”

The CPJ cited some of the potential risks that journalists should be prepared for, such as “prolonged questioning at U.S. borders,” “device searches,” and “citizenship status and denied entry.” They warned of possible detention and provided an extensive checklist of measures to take prior to and during any U.S. visit. They suggested using burner phones and other devices that have been stripped of information that the reporter wouldn’t want border authorities to have access to.

If these sound like precautions that a reporter might have to take when entering a totalitarian state, that is not coincidental. According to Reporters Without Borders…

“Press freedom in the U.S. has fallen significantly in the past year, […] Once considered a bastion for free expression, the U.S. is now on par with developing countries that have few resources or protections dedicated to journalism.”

Testifying before Congress in February, Craig Aaron, President and Co-CEO of Free Press Action, enumerated the attacks on the free press by Trump and his administration that “is using the power of the government to shake down the media and quash dissent.” Including…

  • Trump’s FCC chairman (and Project 2025 co-author), Brendan Carr’s threats to revoke broadcast licenses because he doesn’t like the viewpoints he sees on TV.
  • Trump’s lawsuit against CBS News for $20 billion because he didn’t like how 60 Minutes chose to edit an interview with Kamala Harris.
  • Disney/ABC, Meta, maybe now CBS — paying tens of millions of dollars to settle specious lawsuits. They appear to be paying off the president to shield themselves from reprisal or gain regulatory favors.
  • All the billionaire owners of these companies line up on the dais at the president’s inauguration clutching million-dollar checks to show their loyalty.

It is undeniable that, under the Trump regime, America has fallen to new lows with regard to its First Amendment protections of the free press. And that is by design of the aspiring authoritarian currently occupying the White House. Trump is taking his cues from his idols Vladimir Putin, Kim Jong Un, and Viktor Orbán.

And Trump won’t stop until he he is forced to by those in the media who are not afraid of him, by those in Congress who have the courage to perform their constitutionally mandated duties, and by patriotic Americans who refuse to be oppressed by a wannabe dictator.

Trump and MAGA Rep FREAK OUT that ‘Monsters’ at NPR and PBS ‘Hate Christians and America’

With all of the swirling catastrophes circling the newly minted Trump 2.0 (SignalGate, annexations of Greenland and Canada, inflationary/recessionary Trump Tax/Tariffs, unconstitutional deportations, mass firings of critical federal workers/services, etc.), the regime is desperate to deflect to matters that they think they can spin in a more positive direction.

As usual, Trump’s desperation has led him to yet another fiasco. He has chosen to escalate the war on public broadcasting to an unprecedented level. On Monday Trump posted a comment on his failing Twitter ripoff, Truth Social that raged about the “MONSTERS” at NPR and PBS…

“REPUBLICANS MUST DEFUND AND TOTALLY DISASSOCIATE THEMSELVES FROM NPR & PBS, THE RADICAL LEFT ‘MONSTERS’ THAT SO BADLY HURT OUR COUNTRY!”

That’s right! It’s about time that somebody fought back against the “monsters” that produce Sesame Street, Antiques Roadshow, All Things Considered, and This Old House. Who can deny that they “so badly hurt our country” and must be defunded? And if that weren’t bad enough, a congressional Trump flunky, Brandon Gill (TX-MAGA), chimed in with the following complaint…

The idea that we’re spending so much of our hard earned tax dollars promoting values that we find repulsive is wrong. We shouldn’t be doing this. Let me remind you that Katherine Maher and the entire staff at NPR, I think it’s worth noting, they don’t just disagree with you. They hate you. They hate Christians. They hate conservatives. They hate this country.”

Rep. Brandon Gill says NPR must be defunded because it is "promoting values that we find repulsive" and everyone who works there hates Christians, conservatives, and America.

Rep. Gill didn’t bother to provide any examples of the “repulsive” values that have him so worked up. So either they are too repulsive to even discuss, or more likely, they don’t exist anywhere outside of his cartoon brain. And his assertion that the entire staff of NPR hates Christians, conservatives, and America, is straight out of the most perverse dregs of wingnut dystopian dementia.

It is troubling to consider that the likelihood of defunding these American institutions is frighteningly plausible. The Republican majority in Congress is devoted to obeying every command from their Dear Leader Trump. Even if it means canceling treasured programs, maligning honorable people, and trashing the Constitution’s First Amendment protections of freedom of the press.

The hysterical rage mongers of the right care only about retaining their grip on power by any means they deem necessary. And attacking public broadcasting serves a dual purpose for these radical lunatics: It helps them to channel attention away from the even more grotesque endeavors that that they are engaged in, and it leads to a more ignorant, compliant base of cult followers.

The good news is that they cannot possibly succeed. They are weak and witless and far fewer in number. The majority of Americans are not as blind and malleable as the MAGA minions. We will resist their efforts to control and subjugate us. And our resolve will see us through. LFG!

What If Trump Gave His State of the (Soviet) Union Speech and No Media Was There to Hear It?

Tuesday, March 4, 2025, is the designated day for Donald Trump to deliver what is referred to as a “Joint Session of Congress Address.” It serves as the first state of the union speech for the first year of a newly elected president. There is sometimes some controversy in the content of such speeches, but the fact that they occur is generally regarded as routine.

However, controversy stains everything that Trump engages in. It’s by design from the convicted felon and adjudicated rapist who revels in creating chaos and making waves. Consequently, his appearance before Congress tonight is already stirring a tsunami among members of Congress, as well as the people who they purportedly serve. Although there are those who are anxiously anticipating his address…

The question of how to deal with a president who has so flagrantly demonstrated his allegiance to America’s enemies is weighing on the members of Congress who would ordinarily be expected to attend the speech. Trump has proven by his words and deeds that he is more aligned with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, than with the values of America and its Constitution.

Trump’s overtly traitorous offenses include halting U.S. aid to Ukraine, advocating that the U.S. quit the U.N. and NATO, pushing for Russia to be readmitted to the G7 assembly of nations, and his conspicuous inability to ever say anything remotely critical of Putin, while repeatedly blasting American leaders in the most vile terms. Could he possibly be more of an asset to Russia?

As a result, the day prior to Trump’s address several members announced that they will not be attending. Others have said that they will attend, but bring with them guests who will highlight Trump’s animosity toward American principles and laws. There are rumors of other types of protests that might occur in the chamber during Trump’s speech.

What hasn’t been mentioned so far is: What will the media do? There are good arguments to be made that the press should not cover Trump’s speech live. After all, why present to American and international audiences the nearly incoherent rants of a notorious enemy of democracy? Why allow a certified Putin stooge to get an extended chunk of primetime television to advance the interests of America’s foes? Why should viewers have to suffer through the infantile insults that he unleashes every time he speaks? And why would a well known pathological liar be permitted to spread flagrant falsehoods unchallenged?

The press could easily record the event and replay any significant parts with a short delay. That would likely reduce the running to about two minutes due to the absence of anything significant in his speech. With the time delay the press would also have ample time to conduct appropriate fact checking. Which could increase the running time if they decided to report on all of Trump’s lies.

Finally, Trump has already demonstrated his hatred for the media that he refers to in Stalinist terms as “the enemy of the people.” He has barred credible news agencies from covering him, including the Associated Press and Reuters. He has replaced news outlets in the White House Press Briefing Room such as NBC News, the New York Times, and NPR, with the Trump-fluffing propagandists at Newsmax, One America News Network, the New York Post, and Breitbart.

It is Trump’s obvious intention to suppress the free press, ignoring the Constitution’s First Amendment protections. He seeks to emulate the censorious practices of his heroes, Putin, Xi Jinping, and Kim Jong Un. So why shouldn’t the press exercise its rights to report on him in an appropriate manner that respects their mission to keep the American people informed, and honors their duty to reporting the truth? And the best way to do that is to refrain from all live coverage of Trump, including tonight’s speech before Congress.

Trump Declares Himself King of the White House Press Corps, Will Now Decide Who Can Question Him

For over a century, the White House Correspondents Association (WHCA) has been responsible for setting the standards for reporters who cover the president. Their commitment to independence and professional journalism has ensured that the coverage of the White House and its occupants would be both tough and fair.

From its inception, the mission of the WHCA has been to “share the belief, held by our country’s Founders and enshrined in the First Amendment, that an independent news media is vital to the health of the republic.” It is, in fact, the only way to ensure that the interests of the people are being served. Unfortunately, Donald Trump doesn’t agree. And he has dispatched his Propaganda Secretary, Karoline Leavitt, to see to the dismantling of the White House press corps.

As evidence of this betrayal of American principles and the Constitution, Leavitt, made an announcement on Wednesday that further erodes any pretense by the Trump administration to value the free press. She said that…

“As you all know, a group of D.C.-based journalists, the White House Correspondents Association, has long dictated which journalists get to ask questions of the President of the United States in these intimate spaces, Not anymore. I am proud to announce that we are giving the power back to the people who read your papers, who watch your television shows, and who listen to your radio stations. Moving forward, the White House press pool, will be determined by the White House Press Team.”

First of all, Leavitt is engaging in the sort of disinformation that is the hallmark of the Trump regime. The WHCA does not “dictate which journalists get to ask questions of the President.” They evaluate the credentials of White House correspondents, and approve those who meet the high standards that warrant access to the halls of power. It is a merit based system that the White House is permitted to participate in.

More to the point, Leavitt’s decree that the WHCA will no longer perform the function that they have been fulfilling admirably for decades is a spine-chilling imitation of how the media is oppressed under the thumb of Vladimir Putin’s Politburo. She isn’t “giving the power back to the people.” She’s giving it to the wannabe dictator who regularly maligns the press as “the enemy of the people.”

This change means that Trump and his flunkies will decide who gets to ask him questions. And their recent decrees in that regard have been guided by their flagrant biases and vengefulness. It could not be more obvious that they intend to censor all those who are not adoringly worshipful of Trump. They have already replaced longstanding media outlets like NBC News, the New York Times, and NPR, with One America News Network, the New York Post, and Breitbart News. These are not exactly icons of journalistic integrity.

The WHCA responded to this authoritarian decree in a statement saying that…

“This move tears at the independence of a free press in the United States. It suggests the government will choose the journalists who cover the president. In a free country, leaders must not be able to choose their own press corps.” – Eugene Daniels, White House Correspondents’ Association president.

Trump himself weighed in on the issue saying that…

“We’re gonna be now calling those shots. As you know, we won that lawsuit right there, see the Gulf of America, which is a beautiful name. Most people agree.

“AP has been terrible. I think they’re radical left. I think they’re third rate reporters. I know the specific young lady that works on the account is terrible. she’s a radical left lunatic, as far as I’m concerned.”

So Herr Trump is bragging that he will be “calling the shots” from now on. And to reinforce his tyrannical tendencies, he insults the White House correspondent for the Associated Press in his familiar infantile fashion.

Elaborating on his malicious attack, Trump referred to his banning of the AP because they refused to bow down to his order to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico in their international editions, where he has no authority to change geographical names. He did not win any lawsuit on the matter. It is scheduled to be heard next month by a judge who appears to be leaning toward the view that Trump is in violation of the Constitution.

While Trump may be able to forbid honest journalists from asking him question in his Washington and Palm Beach bunkers, he cannot stop them from asking questions in their own reporting. However, he may find that the conspicuous absence of his lie-riddled answers will only make his autocracy-driven cowardice more obvious, and eventually, more injurious to his already rotten reputation.

MSNBC Dramatically Alters its Schedule, While Trump Falters His Pathetically Infantile Rebuttal

Last week MSNBC announced that was making some changes in their schedule. Among them was the cancelation of Joy Reid’s “The Reidout.” That news was met with disapproval and disappointment from longtime fans of Reid and loyal viewers of the network.

This week MSNBC elaborated on their schedule changes. And the news has both pluses and minuses. Which in itself is problematic, There is no time for minuses. These are times that demand a staunch commitment to progressive media and the voices that will resist the all too apparent march toward totalitarianism by Donald Trump and his StormTrumpers. We don’t need a press corps that mirrors the one that Trump favors in Moscow.

The news from MSNBC reveals more of what the lineup will look like in the coming weeks. The most notable changes are the previously announced departure of Joy Reid, and moving Jen Psaki to weekday primetime Tuesday-Friday. Rachel Maddow will continue on Mondays after the first 100 days of the Trump Regime.

Additionally, the current cast of “The Weekend” Alicia Menendez, Michael Steele, and Symone Sanders-Townsend), will move to weekdays at 7:00pm ET. The old Weekend show will get three new anchors, including Jonathan Capehart. A second version of “The Weekend” will air later in the day with Ayman Mohyeldin as one of the co-hosts. His solo show will end. As will “José Díaz-Balart Reports” and “The Katie Phang Show.” Both of them will remain with the network.

Among others remaining, Ali Velshi will expand his weekend show to three hours. Ana Cabrera, Chris Jansing, and Katy Tur will all add an hour to their weekday programs.

It is impossible not to notice that all of the canceled programs were those with people of color as hosts (Reid, Capehart, Mohyeldin, Phang). However, it would be premature to conclude from that that prejudice was the primary reason for the cuts. Some of the new programming also features people of color (Capehart, Mohyeldin, Sanders-Townsend, Steele), albeit in shared roles that are not fully disclosed yet.

Meanwhile, Trump was busy ignoring any presidential duties that he hasn’t yet delegated to his co-president, Elon Musk. He was up late Sunday night whining petulantly about MSNBC on his failing Twitter ripoff, Truth Social. He raged in his hallmark infantile fashion about “Lowlife Chairman of ‘Concast,’ Brian Roberts,” “mentally obnoxious racist, Joy Reid,” “seriously failing Rachel Maddow,” and “LOW IQ Con Man, Al Sharpton.” Then he closed his rant saying that…

“This whole corrupt operation is nothing more than an illegal arm of the Democrat Party. They should be forced to pay vast sums of money for the damage they’ve done to our Country. Fake News is an UNPARDONABLE SIN!”

If Trump were truly concerned about biased media in the service of political parties, why hasn’t he said anything about his Ministry of Propaganda – and primary pool for recruiting his administration’s staff – Fox News? However, this isn’t the first time that wannabe dictator Trump has decreed that MSNBC, and other credible media, is somehow engaged in illegal activities and shouldn’t be allowed to exist. For instance…

Trump’s tantrums over the free press that he regularly maligns as “the enemy of the people,” is not surprising. It is, however, disgusting and deeply un-American. But unfortunately, it is a noxious excretion that we cannot avoid for the time being.

What we should be able to avoid is betrayals by the media whose mandate is to truthfully inform the people. And at present, outlets such as MSNBC, CNN, the New York Times, the Washington Post, and others are letting us, and the nation – and the world – down. It is up to us to make sure they know where they are failing.

After the first full month of Donald Trump’s reoccupation of the White House, it’s safe to say that the bloom is coming off the roasted pretender to the presidency. Trump’s standing with the American people has never been particularly good. From his first foray into politics he has struggled to get within the vicinity 50 percent.

Donald Trump Circling the Drain

Now, in record time, Trump has rocketed to the bottom the pile of unpopularity. As of February 2025, the only presidential poll numbers worse than Trump’s during what is supposed to be the “honeymoon” period, are Trump’s numbers from 2017.

Undeterred by reality, Trump continues to insist that he is universally beloved. He employs that delusion to gaslight his grossly gullible cult disciples. And he has no shame whatsoever in boasting about the sort of adoration that he imagines is enjoyed by his idols, Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping, and Kim Jong Un.

To that end, on Saturday morning Trump posted a couple of comments on his failing Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, that reek of a rancid combination of acute derangement and malignant narcissism, shouting in all caps…

“HIGHEST POLL NUMBERS EVER. I GUESS WE ARE ON THE RIGHT TRACK!!! THANK YOU.”

Followed by…

“MSNBC, COMMONLY KNOWN AS MSDNC, IS A THREAT TO OUR DEMOCRACY. SUCH LYING AND MISREPRESENTATION. BAD PEOPLE AT THE TOP!”

It appears that Trump was ticked off by MSNBC host Rachel Maddow’s reporting that his approval rating has slipped into negative territory by every recent survey. What’s more, virtually every policy that he has advocated is also underwater, including those that he has clung to desperately, such as immigration and the economy. So naturally, he had to lash out at MSNBC and post his own fantasy numbers that, in his psychotic state, were not only positive, but the highest EVER!

Crybaby Trump is very upset that MSNBC and other news outlets are reporting his abysmal approval ratings.

Trump’s perverse perceptions of his popularity are mirrored in his hostility toward the media. He simply cannot abide the truth being told about him. So much so that he has embarked on an unprecedented campaign to suppress the press freedoms that are enshrined in the Constitution’s First Amendment. This has not gone unnoticed by media advocates. Reporters Without Borders put together a concise summation of Trump’s assault on free speech titled: “One month of Trump: Press freedom under siege.” It began…

“[Donald Trump], his administration, and his political allies have conducted a rapid series of attacks on press freedom that amount to a monumental assault on freedom of information. [and] has systematically undermined the news media’s First Amendment rights.

“However, in Donald Trump’s war on the press, the American people are the ultimate victim.” [And] “Trump wants to make this about him versus the press. In reality, this fight is about Donald Trump versus every American’s First Amendment rights.”

Meanwhile, there is some potentially good news from MSNBC. The network is considering expanding Jen Psaki’s role. Perhaps they are considering giving her Andrea Mitchell’s old time slot. The network is also mulling an expansion of “The Weekend” to weekdays as well. They would be wise to take some of that time away from Morning Joe Scarborough, and/or Katy Tur.

Trump, of course, would hate any of those schedule changes. It would just mean more accurate coverage of his efforts to undermine democracy and elevate his authoritarian aspirations. And you know he’ll be watching. He can’t help himself. He thrives on the antagonism that it stirs in his shriveled heart-like organ. If he isn’t careful, he’s gonna give himself an aneurism or two.

Trump is APPALLED at the ‘Large Scale Social Deception’ that His Own Administration Paid For

Donald Trump is notoriously fond of castigating his perceived enemies for offenses that he himself is responsible for. Every time he has falsely accused President Biden of committing crimes, it has been to deflect from his own documented criminality, including 34 felony convictions. Every time he has railed at Democrats for cheating, or attacked liberals as extremists, it has been to cover up his own dishonesty and manic radicalism.

Trump Lies

Nothing is more predictable than Trump’s displays of pure projection that mirror his worst behaviors. And his feigned blindness to what is obvious to everybody else speaks to the degree of mental deterioration that he must be suffering, and/or his pathological impulse to lie about everything. These may be factors in why Trump’s popularity is wallowing at record lows.

Consequently, no one should be surprised that Trump is now unleashing a rancid and utterly unwarranted assault on the media that he despises so thoroughly. Just one day after he brazenly violated the First Amendment rights of the Associated Press (because they wouldn’t kowtow to his preposterous renaming of the Gulf of Mexico), Trump is now making bizarre and unfounded accusations aimed at Reuters. He posted the following harangue on his failing Twitter ripoff, Truth Social…

“DOGE: Looks like Radical Left Reuters was paid $9,000,000 by the Department of Defense to study ‘large scale social deception.’ GIVE BACK THE MONEY, NOW!”

What things “look like” to Trump are usually grossly distorted by his perversely warped political baises. And this case is no exception. To begin with, Trump was alerted to this phony atrocity by his unelected co-president and puppet master, Elon Musk, who shortly before Trump’s posting, tweeted that…

“Reuters was paid millions of dollars by the US government for ‘large scale social deception’. That is literally what it says on the purchase order! They’re a total scam. Just wow.”

There a couple of serious problems with these crackpot commentaries. Let’s begin with the fact that the expenditure in question was not one that financed engaging in “large scale social deception.” It was clearly described as a contract to conduct research on nefarious social media operations in order to defend against such threats to national security due to the social media campaigns of foreign adversaries. Naturally Trump is opposed to that because it would put constraints on his BFF, Vladimir Putin, and other tyrants that Trump admires and seeks to emulate.

Furthermore, the expenditures that Trump and Musk are complaining about were made in 2018, during Trump’s occupation of the White House. So he is actually attacking the work of his own administration. And yet, still managing to blame it on “Radical Left[ists]” and demanding repayment of the funds that he paid out. None of this was secret. It was all documented and available online. Mediaite did a quick fact-check and easily found that…

“The contract in question, issued in 2018 during the first Trump administration, was actually awarded to Thomson Reuters Special Services for cybersecurity research. […] The ASED program aims to create scalable systems capable of detecting, analyzing, and mitigating threats to bolster cybersecurity.”

For the record, Thomson Reuters Special Services is a division of the same corporation that owns Reuters News Service, but is not affiliated with it in any working capacity. TRSS has no input into Reuters reporting or editorial practices. It would like saying that Pepsi and Quaker Oats are clandestinely conspiring to alter each others recipes because they are both owned by the same corporation.

The bottom line here is that Trump and Musk are deliberately lying about the pseudo-scandal that they are pretending to have uncovered. And they are demonstrating that they couldn’t care less about the facts that are so readily available. So if anyone still needs more reasons not to trust anything that either of them say (a line that should have been crossed long ago), this should be a convincing closer to that deal. From now on, if you are fooled by these con artists, you want to be fooled. Also, you are in a cult.

The Media Must Boycott Trump’s Phony Press Conferences Until He Stops Censoring Journalists

There have been a disturbing amount of firsts achieved by Donald Trump as he commences his second occupation of the White House. None of which would foster pride in any honorable man or woman. They include his being the first president convicted of felonies; the first adjudicated as a rapist; the first barred from running a charity; and the first to openly admire, praise, and seek to emulate vile dictators like Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping, Kim Jong Un, and even Adolf Hitler.

Trump is also the first president to hold the free press in such contempt that he repeatedly refers to it in Stalinist terms as “the enemy of the people.” And no American leader before him has sought so aggressively to undermine the constitutional protections of the press provided in the First Amendment. The white hot intensity of Trump’s hostility toward the media is reflected in his nominee for FBI Director, Kash Patel…

The latest example of Trump’s anti-press obsession is his response to a perfectly reasonable editorial decision by the Associated Press concerning Trump’s preposterous plan to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the “Gulf of America.” The AP noted that “Trump’s order only carries authority within the United States.” Then they elaborated saying that…

“The Gulf of Mexico has carried that name for more than 400 years. The Associated Press will refer to it by its original name while acknowledging the new name Trump has chosen. As a global news agency that disseminates news around the world, the AP must ensure that place names and geography are easily recognizable to all audiences.”

That decision is entirely within the rights of the AP to make as they see fit, and within the principles of professional journalism. However, in Trump’s egomaniacally twisted view, he imagines that he has the right to punish the media whenever they do something that offends him personally. Consequently, Trump issued an order banning the AP from Oval Office media events. That is pure, unadulterated censorship that violates the Constitution. The AP responded saying that…

“Today we were informed by the White House that if AP did not align its editorial standards with President Donald Trump’s executive order renaming the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America, AP would be barred from accessing an event in the Oval Office. This afternoon AP’s reporter was blocked from attending an executive order signing.

“It is alarming that the Trump administration would punish AP for its independent journalism. Limiting our access to the Oval Office based on the content of AP’s speech not only severely impedes the public’s access to independent news, it plainly violates the First Amendment.”

The AP was not the only media enterprise that was appalled by the tyrannical behavior of Trump. Eugene Daniels, president of the White House Correspondents’ Association, said that…

“The White House cannot dictate how news organizations report the news, nor should it penalize working journalists because it is unhappy with their editors’ decisions. The move by the administration to bar a reporter from The Associated Press from an official event open to news coverage today is unacceptable.

“The WHCA stands with The Associated Press and calls on the administration to immediately change course.”

Craig Aaron, President and Co-CEO of Free Press Action, testified before Congress Wednesday and enumerated the attacks on the free press by Trump and his administration that “is using the power of the government to shake down the media and quash dissent.” Including…

  • Trump’s FCC chairman (and Project 2025 co-author), Brendan Carr’s threats to revoke broadcast licenses because he doesn’t like the viewpoints he sees on TV.
  • Trump’s lawsuit against CBS News for $20 billion because he didn’t like how 60 Minutes chose to edit an interview with Kamala Harris.
  • Disney/ABC, Meta, maybe now CBS — paying tens of millions of dollars to settle specious lawsuits. They appear to be paying off the president to shield themselves from reprisal or gain regulatory favors.
  • All the billionaire owners of these companies line up on the dais at the president’s inauguration clutching million-dollar checks to show their loyalty.

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) also made an impassioned speech defending the free press and condemning Trump’s censorious assault on the AP…

“Yesterday, Donald Trump banned the Associated Press, a 179-year-old newspaper organization, from the White House because it declines to call the Gulf of Mexico the ‘Gulf of America.’ This is straight up press censorship based on retaliatory viewpoint discrimination. Trump’s DoD kicked out eight newsgroups that had space in the Pentagon, but which asked skeptical questions of the new Secretary. Including the New York Times, NBC News, and the Washington Post. All ousted in favor of outlets willing to faithfully advance the party line of the state, like Breitbart and One America News Network.”

For these, and so many other reasons, the media needs to stop pussy-footing around with Trump. He is virulently opposed to the mission of the free press in America, and he couldn’t care less about the Constitution’s explicit protections. And now that he has escalated his attacks to actually banning journalists for doing their jobs, the press must stop giving him the attention he craves to disseminate pure propaganda.

His press conferences are nothing more than staged photo-ops where he badgers and bullies reporters without answering their questions. Instead he replies with known lies, infantile insults, and noxious self-exaltation. Then he filibusters until his nannies usher the reporters out of the room.

News outlets don’t need to be present to suffer that disrespect and abuse. They can send interns to record the nonsense that he spews, and then report on it later with proper context and fact-checking. That will surely drive Trump crazy(er), as he seethes in an empty room yearning for the adulation he covets to satisfy his narcissistic lust.

UPDATE 2/14/2025: Trump has escalated his war on the AP. They have now been banned indefinitely from the Oval Office and Air Force One.

UPDATE 2/22/2025: The AP is suing the Trump administration to rescind its unconstitutional ban on their reporters.

Who Should Fill Andrea Mitchell’s Now Vacant Slot on MSNBC? Jim Acosta? Mehdi Hasan? Or…

MSNBC anchor Andrea Mitchell hosted the last episode of her program on Friday. Her departure was announced last October in a statement that indicated her interest in doing “more of what I love the most: more connecting, listening and reporting in the field.”

Mitchell will retain her role as chief Washington correspondent and chief foreign affairs correspondent. However, no one has yet been named to fill her 12:00pm ET time slot. That leaves some interesting possibilities for the network to counter Trump’s war against the free press that he refers to as “the enemy of people.”

Among the prospective candidates to succeed Mitchell is former CNN anchor, Jim Acosta. He recently chose to ditch CNN when they tried to banish him to an overnight wasteland, despite his having higher ratings than most of his CNN colleagues. It’s clear that the network’s brass were determined to kiss up to Trump by silencing one of his most honest and effective critics. Acosta signed off by warning that…

“It is never a good time to bow down to a tyrant…Don’t give in to the lies. Don’t give in to the fear. Hold on to the truth and to hope.”

Other potential replacements might include current weekend MSNBC hosts, Katie Phang, Ali Velshi, Alicia Menendez, Jonathan Capehart, and Ayman Mohyeldin. Another intriguing possibility would be to bring back former host Mehdi Hasan, an insightful journalist who was popular with MSNBC viewers before he was let go. Although he may not be available now as he has started his own successful media enterprise, Zeteo.

Replacing Mitchell with Acosta or Hasan would serve the dual purpose of pissing off Trump. Of course, he will attack whoever gets the spot with his hallmark hatred of anyone who dares to criticize him. And he has a special place in the decaying organ where his heart should be for MSNBC. Some of his recent outbursts include…

“You take a look at MSDNC, how evil they are. They’re evil. They’re sick. They shouldn’t even be allowed to do what they do. Because it’s so corrupt. They shouldn’t be allowed to do it.”

“MSNBC (MSDNC) uses FREE government approved airwaves, and yet it is nothing but a 24 hour hit job on Donald J. Trump…Our so-called ‘government’ should come down hard on them and make them pay for their illegal political activity.”

“MSNBC, often and correctly referred to as MSDNC (Democrat National Committee!), should be investigated for its ‘Country Threatening Treason.’”

One option that MSNBC must resist is giving another hour of air time Morning Joe host, Joe Scarborough, who is already controlling four hours every weekday morning. The last thing the network needs is to lean closer to the Trump-fluffers at Fox News.

Speaking of which, Fox just announced its own new host, Trump’s daughter-in-lawlessness, Lara Trump. Which is their way of affirming that the network has abandoned any pretense of being anything other than Trump’s Ministry of Propaganda.
