EAT THE TARIFFS? Trump Admits that His Tariffs Will Raise Prices, But Blames it on Walmart

On April 2, Donald Trump declared that it was “Liberation Day” as he imposed a broad set of devastating tariffs on virtually every country around the world. Ever since then he has staggered like a drunken toddler between clawing back his ill-considered economic scheme and doubling down when it suited some indiscernible purpose that resided only in his twisted imagination.

Donald Trump, Stock Market

The stock market responded with a certainty that it rarely exhibits by proceeding to crash more than it had in five years. It has since regained some of that decline due to Trump’s wavering and caving on alleged deals with the UK and China that don’t really resolve the problem, but generate some positive press. Although even his Ministry of Propaganda, Fox News, has not been sold on his tariffs/taxes…

SEE THIS: UH-OH: Fox News Trump-Fluffer Admits that Trump’s Tariffs Will Fuel Higher Prices and Recession

For the most part, Trump has been insisting that everything he does is golden and that he is incapable of making a mistake. But that seems to have hit a speed bump on Saturday morning when he posted a comment on his failing Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, wherein he actually admitted – although likely inadvertently – that he is indeed responsible for the rising prices that the American people are all too familiar with, and the likelihood that the worst is yet to come. He wrote that

“Walmart should STOP trying to blame Tariffs as the reason for raising prices throughout the chain. Walmart made BILLIONS OF DOLLARS last year, far more than expected. Between Walmart and China they should, as is said, ‘EAT THE TARIFFS,’ and not charge valued customers ANYTHING. I’ll be watching, and so will your customers!!!”

Trump’s threat aimed at Walmart to “EAT THE TARIFFS” is an outright admission that the tariffs he is imposing would be paid by American businesses and the consumers who patronize them. That’s a complete contradiction of his prior claims that the foreign governments would pay the tariffs. And his accusation that Walmart is “trying to blame Tariffs as the reason for raising prices” is actually Trump trying to blame Walmart.

Trump is clinging to a kernel of truth when it notes that Walmart makes billions of dollars. However, he is ignoring that they make that money on narrow profit margins that will be erased if tariffs are implemented. He’s also ignoring the fact that consumers are already holding back on spending due to the economic strife that Trump has caused, and that will only continue to decline going forward.

Trump’s solution is to coerce Walmart to set prices lower at his demand. How is that different from the communist price-fixing of totalitarian regimes where the state decides what companies can charge for their products? Apparently Trump is abandoning capitalism in favor of the economic model employed by his hero, Vladimir Putin. And the CFO of Walmart recently acknowledged as much in an interview on CNBC…

Trump cranked up tariffs against China to 145%. Then, to "fix" the problem he created, he walks it back to 30%.But according to Walmart's CFO, even that is too high. A $300 microwave oven would cost $390.

News Corpse (@newscorpse.bsky.social) 2025-05-15T16:01:41.532Z

Trump sees – or has had it explained to him – that his policies will cause serious harm and likely a recession or worse. So he wants to force Walmart to rescue him from his own economic incompetence. That’s not gonna happen. But even if Walmart were to nibble on some of Trump’s tariffs, rather than eat them whole, it wouldn’t solve the problem. Walmart isn’t the only retailer in America that would suffer the consequences of his tariffs. Target, Best Buy, Home Depot, Costco, and others would also have to comply. And then there are the thousands of small stores that don’t have the pricing power of the big box stores, and would probably have to shut down.

Trump’s attempt to bully Walmart is a desperation move on his part. It can’t possibly work. It will only create more problems for retailers of all sizes across the country. And those are problems that will result in bankruptcies, job losses, and forced austerity for the American people, who are already complaining that that is not what they voted for. And it’s why Trump’s approval rating is at a record low.

Trump and Fox News Crybabies are Blowing Up a Phony Controversy Over James Comey’s 86 47 Meme

The snowflakes in MAGA World are freaking out again. This time over a contrived controversy that is rooted in their blind worship of Donald Trump, and their ignorance of the English language and cultural idioms. And naturally their Ministry of Propaganda, Fox News, is hotwired to the rapidly exploding story.

Click here to post this article on Twitter or Click here to post on Bluesky

James Comey, Donald Trump

On Thursday, Former FBI Director James Comey posted a picture of some seashells on the beach that he saw while talking a walk. They were laid out to spell the message “86 47.” and that was all it took to trigger the fragile sensitivities of the MAGI. Their short fuse quickly burned to the end as they set off some wild speculation that Comey was threatening to assassinate the president. They should probably get their new top prosecutor on this right away.

SEE THIS: The Choice of Fox News Trump-Fluffer Jeanine Pirro as Interim US Attorney May Be Illegal

The problem with the outpouring of outrage by the right is that “86” doesn’t mean to kill or otherwise physically harm anyone. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, it means (a) to refuse to serve (a customer); (b) to eject or ban (a customer); or (c) to eject, dismiss, or remove (someone). Which are all perfectly reasonable feelings that many Americans share about Trump.

However, that didn’t stop the whiners from winding up their whimpering. For instance, Trump’s Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, went on Fox News to complain about Comey with Fox’s Senior Dumbass, Jesse Watters…

Watters: Do you believe Comey should be in jail?
Gabbard: I do. Any other person with the position of influence that he has, people who take very seriously what a guy of his stature, his experience, and what the propaganda media has built him up to be– I’m very concerned for the president’s life. We’ve already seen assassination attempts. I’m very concerned for his life and James Comey, in my view, should be held accountable and put behind bars for this.

Trump's snowflake DNI Director, Tulsi Gabbard, whines to Senior Fox News Dumbass, Jesse Watters, that James Comey should be jailed because he posted a meme saying "86 47" and thinks it's a threat to Trump. But 86 means to ban or throw out. As from a from bar. Not to kill. You big babies.

News Corpse (@newscorpse.bsky.social) 2025-05-16T10:39:11.629Z

They weren’t alone in this effort to twist Comey’s message into an unrecognizable pretzel. Trump’s FBI director, Kash Patel, weighed in saying that “We are aware” and that he was deferring to the Secret Service. Trump’s son Don Jr also commented saying that it’s “Just James Comey causally calling for my dad to be murdered. This is who the Dem-Media worships. Demented!!!!”

Who wants to tell Junior that Democrats don’t worship Comey? In fact, they hold him responsible in part for Trump’s election when he unloaded a bunch of Hillary Clinton’s emails – that later proved to have no evidence whatsoever of wrongdoing – a week before election day.

For his part, Comey responded to this media madness by saying that…

“I posted earlier a picture of some shells I saw today on a beach walk, which I assumed were a political message. I didn’t realize some folks associate those numbers with violence. It never occurred to me but I oppose violence of any kind so I took the post down.”

However, that wasn’t enough for Trump, who was determined to exploit the crackpot controversy for as much as he could get out of it. Trump whined that…

“He knew exactly what that meant. A child would know what that meant. If you were the FBI director and you don’t know what that meant – that meant assassination. And it says it loud and clear. Now, he wasn’t very competent, but he was competent enough to know what that meant. And he did it for a reason. And he was hit so hard because people like me and they like what was happening with our country. And our country has become respected again. And all this – and he’s calling for the assassination of the president.”

[Adding that] “I don’t want to take a position on it. It’s gonna be up to [Attorney General] Pam [Bondi] and all the great people. But I will say, I think it is a terrible thing. When you add his history to that, if he had a clean history, he doesn’t. He’s a dirty cop.”

Trump on Comey: "He knew exactly what that meant … it meant assassination. It says it loud and clear … he's calling for the assassination of the president … it's gonna be up to Pam … he's a dirty cop."

Aaron Rupar (@atrupar.com) 2025-05-16T13:13:22.753Z

We should probably avoid taking the opinion of Trump as to what words mean. He recently claimed to have invented the word “equalize,” and has been surprised to hear the word “groceries” because it’s so old-fashioned and no one uses it anymore. Furthermore, leaving the matter to Trump sycophant Pam Bondi isn’t any different than leaving it to Trump himself.

Finally, no one should be surprised that there is a boatload of hypocrisy in all of this yammering. Trump and others on the right have been calling Democrats traitors, including Biden, Clinton, and many members of Congress and journalists. And since the penalty for treason is execution, they have been, in effect, calling for them to be killed.

What’s more, the phrase “86 46” was frequently used about Biden, but none of these cretins cared about it then. Which is further proof that all they are interested in now is making a flagrantly phony fuss for purely political purposes.

The Choice of Fox News Trump-Fluffer Jeanine Pirro as Interim US Attorney May Be Illegal

The team that Donald Trump has assembled for his second occupation of the White House is a collection of incompetent misfits who have an unprecedented measure of ignorance of, and lack of qualifications for, the jobs that they have been appointed to carry out. Most of them are committed to sabotaging and/or shuttering the departments that they were hired to lead.

Click here to post this article on Twitter or Click here to post on Bluesky

Jeanine Pirro Fox News

Among the saboteurs are Trump’s Defense Secretary, Pete Hegseth, an alcoholic with no command leadership experience, who has already been caught disclosing sensitive attack plans on a commercial chat app; Trump’s Health and Human Services Secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr, an anti-vax conspiracy crackpot with a brain worm; and Trump’s Attorney General, Pam Bondi, who doesn’t believe in Due Process or other explicit protections in the Constitution. But then, why should she when her boss doesn’t?

SEE THIS: WTHF? When Asked ‘Don’t You Need to Uphold the Constitution,’ Trump Replies ‘I Don’t Know.’

Which brings us to the mysterious case of Jeanine Pirro. She is the Fox News personality that Trump has just tapped to become the interim U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia. She is a replacement for Trump’s first choice, Ed Martin, who was torpedoed by his long record of improprieties and Trump cult worship. Pirro would be the 21st Fox News alum that Trump has recruited this time around. And she would join another Trump flunky, Alina Habba, among the ranks of U.S. Attorneys.

However, there is some controversy as to whether Pirro can actually take the job. The Washington Post Editorial Board published an article that explores whether Jeanine Pirro’s Appointment as U.S. Attorney Might Not Be Legal.” The article begins by stating that…

“[S]ince Pirro left her last job as a prosecutor two decades ago, she has acted in ways that call into question whether she has the independence necessary to responsibly take on one of the most important prosecutorial jobs in the United States. What’s more, in choosing her, Trump is pushing the limits of his authority. It isn’t clear that the law allows him to name successive interim U.S. attorneys who are not confirmed by the Senate.”

What the article is referring to is the “Federal Vacancies Reform Act of 1998” that governs interim appointments in the executive branch. It states that the U.S. District Court, not the president, can appoint a new interim staffer after the term of a previous interim staffer – in this case, Martin – has expired.

In their article, the Post’s Editorial Board elaborated on certain concerns about Pirro’s proposed appointment. For instance, they noted that “Trump has long wanted to place Pirro in a high government position.” He previously tried, and failed, to give her a high post in the Justice Department under his first Attorney General, Jeff Sessions, who he later fired. He discussed making her a special counsel to conduct meritless investigations of Hillary Clinton. And he briefly considered her for Attorney General before appointing Bill Barr, who he later fired.

When all of that failed, Pirro hooked up with Fox News where she made a name for herself sucking up to Trump and disseminating his most flagrant lies. She’s been there for twenty years now and has not been practicing law at all. Which makes her the perfect Trump appointee who is lacking in any relevant experience, other than her infatuation with Trump. As reported in the Post…

“On her Fox News show, she championed Trump’s efforts to overturn his 2020 defeat. In documents obtained by Dominion Voting Systems as part of discovery in its defamation lawsuit against Fox News (which led to a $787.5 million settlement), Pirro’s executive producer at the time referred to her as a ‘reckless maniac’ during an internal argument over her pro-Trump monologues.”

This is the person that Trump believes is best qualified to lead one of the most important prosecutorial offices in America. The truth is that Trump believes Pirro is best qualified to obstruct any inquiries into activities by him and his cronies, while launching phony persecutions of his political foes. And he’s aiming to do all of that with an appointment that he may not be legally authorized to make. But Trump wouldn’t do anything illegal, would he? WOULD HE?

HUH? Fox News Makes the Most Bizarre Justification Yet for Trump Accepting a Free Jet From Qatar

The recent revelation that Donald Trump is preparing to accept a $400 million plane from Qatar to replace Air Force One has been leading the news cycle for three days now. For better or worse, it has taken precedence over his junket to the Middle East, his phony trade deals with the UK and China, his unlawful and unenforceable drug price reductions, and his efforts to defy the constitutional protection of habeas Corpus laws.

Fox News Sad

Naturally, Trump’s always predictable reaction to the torrent of criticism that he has received for his latest self-enriching enterprise has been predominantly to deny, lie, and insult his critics, whether they be Democrats, Republicans, or journalists. Especially journalists…

SEE THIS: Scaredy Trump Attacks Reporter to Dodge Questions About His $400 Million Gift Plane from Qatar

Fortunately for Trump, he will always have Fox News to carry water for him as he seeks to flood the zone with bullpucky and gaslight his gullible cult disciples. To that end, the “Curvy Couch” potatoes of Fox and Friends embarked on a path of shameless Trump-fluffing to absolve him of any guilt for eagerly grabbing the gift of a flying palace from a Middle Eastern nation with whom he is doing business. Spinning furiously, they said that…

Brian Kilmeade: The question is the optics. What does Qatar want in return for a multi billion dollar plane?
Lawrence Jones: I think we would be crazy not to accept the plane. I think people have been watching way too many spy movies. And if you think the United States government and our Defense Department is not going to strip the plane – everybody is talking about technology. Could they be spying on us? Of course. We have foreign assets that want to spy on us. But they are not going to take the plane as is. They will break it apart. They will put the necessary military assets on there. The technology is there.
Kilmeade: Flip the couches to the other side.
Jones: I think it’s a gift. I think it’s totally okay.
Ainsley Earhardt: Look, the left is going crazy about this. But they have to be careful. They are fine with Harvard getting all these gifts from these Middle Eastern countries. And Bill Ackman says “the hypocrisy is staggering. If the Pentagon took a $400 million plane from Qatar, it would rightly spark outrage over foreign influence. Yet universities pocket billions from the same regimes and get a free pass.” American universities are getting billions in gifts from foreign countries and they are okay with that. Remember Barack Obama supported Harvard for going after Trump?

Jones is parroting Trump himself who said that “It would be stupid” not to accept the plane. His reasoning rested solely on the claim that it’s free. Let’s get back to that nonsense in moment. First, let’s note that free gifts are not permitted under the Constitution’s Emoluments Clause. And it would be ridiculous to suggest that just because something is free that it’s okay. Would it be okay for someone with matters pending before a senator or a judge to give them a free Mercedes or Rolex?

As to whether the plane is actually free, NBC News reports that it could cost more than a billion dollars to “strip the plane” and then rebuild it with the added security enhancements that the president’s plane requires. Plus it could take years to complete the transformation. So the planes currently being built by Boeing to replace Air force One could be delivered first. And Trump would end up getting a free plane for his library that was never used as Air Force One.

Perhaps the most preposterous take in this Fox News segment is Earhardt’s comparison of Trump accepting a multimillion plane from a foreign government, to Harvard accepting academic donations. To begin with, Earhardt is actually agreeing that Trump’s acceptance of the plane is improper and “would rightly spark outrage over foreign influence.” Her complaint is only that Democrats might be hypocritical for not also being outraged about Harvard. Which is not even remotely similar.

Unlike Trump’s gift, there is nothing in the Constitution prohibiting Harvard from taking such donations. Harvard isn’t using those funds in any endeavor that would impact national security. In fact, as reported by The Harvard Crimson, they are used for financial aid, graduate fellowships, research funding, and related educational and operational expenses. And the donations they receive are fully disclosed as required by law.

Trying to equate Trump, a known felon with 34 convictions for financial fraud, and his breach of constitutional law, to Harvard’s commonplace and legal academic fundraising, is really just a demonstration of how desperate Fox News is to find any justification for an unjustifiable act by a criminal president. And that desperation only makes their failure more apparent and pathetic.

Trump Celebrates Peace Officers Memorial Day, Doesn’t Mention Pardoning January 6th Cop Killers

Donald Trump is taking the first foreign junket of his second occupation of the White House this week. His first stop is Saudi Arabia, where is is shamelessly sucking up to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the man who murdered Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi, and gave Trump’s daughter (Ivanka) and son-in-law (Jared Kushner) two billion dollars.

Click here to post this article on Twitter or Click here to post on Bluesky

Donald Trump, Police

Trump’s pilgrimage to the Persian Gulf states will also include visits to the United Arab Emirates, where he’s building a new golf resort, and Qatar, who just offered him a gift of a $400 million “flying palace” to replace Air Force One. He didn’t bother to speak of either of those glaring conflicts of interest in his initial public statements. Not that he would have anything relevant to say, even if he were asked.

SEE THIS: Scaredy Trump Attacks Reporter to Dodge Questions About His $400 Million Gift Plane from Qatar

Trump did, however, make time to recognize that May 15 is Peace Officers Memorial Day. He posted a message on his failing Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, commemorating the day that honors America’s law enforcement officers and their families. He, or the AI bot/intern that he designated, wrote that…

“On Peace Officers Memorial Day and during Police Week, we honor our brave officers who serve on the front lines to protect our families, safeguard our communities, and shoulder a burden of responsibility that most Americans cannot fathom. This week and always, we honor the courageous men and women serving in law enforcement and memorialize those who sacrificed their lives defending the thin blue line.”

It’s always a nausea-inducing affair when Trump pretends to care about law enforcement. After all, he is a convicted felon and adjudicated rapist who viciously disparages the police, prosecutors, and judges when they do their duty to enforce the laws that he has broken. Even worse, he granted pardons to the 1,500 January 6th insurrectionists who stormed the United States Capital on his behalf, resulting in more than 140 officers being hospitalized and five of them dying. More recently he proposed to pay his violent thugs reparations.

MORE HERE: Trump Floats Proposal to Pay Reparations for the January 6th Insurrectionists Who Assaulted Cops

Trump, of course, didn’t mention any of that in his perfunctory statement that only served to cover his asinine imitation of support for the police. The only support he has for police is when he can employ them to advance his fascist police state aspirations. However, in his extended proclamation, he did mention some other points that were equally as absurd and out of touch with reality. For instance…

“A nation in chaos ceases to be a citadel of liberty.”
And who is more responsible for deliberate and destructive chaos than Trump?

“Tragically, the previous administration allowed lawlessness to permeate our country.”
As usual, Trump used this event to malign his predecessor, President Biden, who actually did respect law enforcement and presided over a historic decline in crime. This was verified by PolitiFact.

“I am fulfilling my promise to make America safe again by reclaiming sovereignty on the border and restoring the rule of law in communities nationwide.”
What Trump means by “restoring the rule of law” is to apprehend suspected migrants and ship them off to foreign gulags without due process. Also, he seeks weaponize the Justice Department so that he can persecute his political foes. Also, he advocates for immunizing bad cops to use brutality without consequences.

“The oath to serve and protect comes with extraordinary risk and sacrifice.”
Is this like the oath that Trump took to uphold the Constitution that he has already forgotten about and is violating?

“I have asked the Congress to codify my Executive Order mandating the death penalty for the murder of a police officer.”
That’s nice. Except that murdering a police officer is already a capital offense and has been for thirty years, since the passage of the Federal Death Penalty Act of 1994.

Like everything else that Trump does, this is purely an exercise in whatever benefits him. It is a PR stunt whose value is completely undone by his prior words and misdeeds. He simply has zero moral authority to pretend to honor the heroes who he has so frequently insulted and worked against.

Scaredy Trump Attacks Reporter to Dodge Questions About His $400 Million Gift Plane from Qatar

The most predictable response by Donald Trump to any question more probing than how handsome he is, will almost always be an attack on the reporter as “fake news” or simply a “low IQ” person. It’s his simple-minded method of avoiding having to justify the latest atrocity he has thrust onto the nation.

Click here to post this article on Twitter or Click here to post on Bluesky

Donald Trump Angry

Trump is seriously deluded if he believes that insulting journalists actually constitutes a rational reply to a substantive inquiry on subjects that the American people care about. But that’s how he operates, and he seems to be convinced that it satisfies the public. Never mind that most recent surveys show that the people are far from satisfied.

SEE THIS: Trump Marks His First 100 Days By Glorifying Why Most Americans See Him as ‘A Dangerous Dictator’

Yet another growing controversy of Trump’s own creation emerged over the weekend that reveals his intention to accept a gift 747 plane, from his dear friends in Qatar, that he can use to replace the current Air Force One. And naturally, the Qataris are doing this purely out of the kindness of their hearts with no ulterior motive whatsoever, because that’s just how they are.

There are numerous problems with such an arrangement, including the obvious ethical breach, the flagrant violation of the Constitution’s Emoluments Clause, and matters of national security related to a such a critical mode of transportation possibly being technologically compromised. So it it was not surprising that Trump would be asked about it in his next press avail, which took place Monday morning. He engaged in the following exchange with ABC News correspondent Rachel Scott…

Scott: What do you say to people who view that luxury jet as a personal gift to you?
Trump: You’re ABC fake news, right? Let me tell you – you should be embarrassed asking that question. They’re giving us a free jet. I could say “No, no, no. I want to pay a billion or $400 million” or whatever it is. Or I can say “Thank you very much.” […]

It’s not a gift to me. It’s a gift to the Department of Defense. And you should know better, because you’ve been embarrassed enough. And so has your network. Your network is a disaster. ABC is a disaster.”

Reporter: “What do you say to people who view that luxury jet as a personal gift to you?”Trump: “You're ABC fake news right?… You should be embarrassed asking that question. They're giving us a free jet.”

The Bulwark (@thebulwark.com) 2025-05-12T16:16:02.317Z

There’s a lot of derp to unpack in that reply. Let’s begin with the fact that Scott wasn’t asking Trump to justify the gift, only what he would tell the American people who were concerned about it. But that was too much for Trump, who had no coherent answer, so he insulted the reporter.

What’s more, Trump lied that the plane would be a gift to the Department of Defense. He later admitted that, after he leaves the White House (if he does), the plane would be given to his presidential library. But presidential libraries are privately funded through non-profit organizations established by the former President or their supporters. So it is still a gift to the president.

Furthermore, Trump justifies accepting the gift because it’s free. So according to Trump, giving a free Mercedes to a senator before a vote would be okay? Or giving a free home to a judge before a ruling? What’s next? Vladimir Putin gives the U.S. a free building to use as its embassy in Moscow?

Trump’s Propaganda Secretary, Karoline Leavitt, was on Fox News Monday morning (as usual) to whitewash this sleazy transaction. She discussed the issue with Fox and Friends co-host Brian Kilmeade…

Kilmeade: Do you worry that if the Qataris give us something like this that they’ll want something in return?
Leavitt: Absolutely not. Because they know President Trump, and they know he only works with the interests of the American public in mind.

KILMEADE: Do you worry that if they Qataris give us something like this that they'll want something in return?LEAVITT: Absolutely not, because they know President Trump and they know he only works with the interests of the American public in mind

Aaron Rupar (@atrupar.com) 2025-05-12T13:43:36.991Z

Really? If Trump was the least bit concerned about “the best interest of the American public,” he wouldn’t have imposed his recessionary Trump Taxes (aka tariffs) on America’s international trading partners; he wouldn’t be dismantling critical government agencies and cutting services such as Medicare and Medicaid; he wouldn’t be aligning himself with authoritarian tyrants and alienating American allies.

If the world knows anything about Trump, it’s that he is relentlessly transactional, and is always in it for himself. This latest scam is just the most recent proof.

What Trump Admits He Doesn’t Know: 13 Examples of His Failing Mental Acuity – or Blatant Lying

Donald Trump often brags about his allegedly incomparable intellect. He has claimed that he knows more about medicine than doctors; more about the military than generals; more about economics than economists. The list of subjects that he says he knows more about than anyone else is almost as long as the list of his documented lies.

Click here to post this article on Twitter or Click here to post on Bluesky

Donald Trump WTF

What’s more, Trump uses his gasbag boasts to favorably compare himself to President Biden, who he has relentlessly demeaned as incompetent and even unaware of what he’s doing or where he is. Meanwhile, Trump celebrates the results of simple cognitive exams as evidence that he’s a “stable genius.” And he is oblivious to the contempt in which he is held by most Americans.

SEE THIS: Fox News is Already Downplaying Trump’s Unreleased Health Report Because Trump…Looks Great?

So while Trump frequently insists that he is the answer to all of mankind’s woes, and that only he can fix their problems, the Washington Post has compiled some examples of Trump exhibiting his ineptitude and desperation to evade responsibility for anything. The article began by noting that…

“One of the major themes of President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign was the idea that Joe Biden had no idea what was happening around him. […] But less than four months after taking over from Biden, it’s Trump who, in his own telling, is often unaware of major events surrounding him and directly involving his administration.”

What follows is a summary of the Post’s research of recent Trump attempts to separate himself from his multitude of failures.

  • On nominating Casey Means, a conspiracy crackpot with no medical license, as Surgeon General: “I don’t know her, I listened to the recommendation of Bobby [Kennedy Jr].”
  • On GOP Sen. Thom Tillis coming out against Ed Martin, the now discarded Trump nominee for U.S. attorney for D.C.: “I didn’t know that.”
  • On firing staffers of a program that provides health care for 9/11 first responders and survivors: “I’m not aware of anything that may have been brought up recently.”
  • On whether he had briefed about four U.S. soldiers who died in a training exercise in Lithuania: “No, I haven’t.”
  • On the SignalGate scandal involving his top national security officials revealing sensitive data on a commercial chat app: “I don’t know anything about it.”
  • On his Defense Secretary, Pete Hegseth, ordering a halt to military aid shipments to Ukraine: “Trump was not aware of Hegseth’s order.”
  • On reported plans to deport migrants to Libya: “I don’t know; you’ll have to ask Homeland Security.”
  • On the arrest and detention of Tufts University student Rumeysa Ozturk: “I’m not aware of the particular event.”
  • On whether he could get Kilmar Abrego García back from El Salvador: “I’m not the one making this decision. We have lawyers that don’t want to do this.”
  • On whether he signed the order to deport migrants under the Alien Enemies Act without due process: “I don’t know when it was signed, because I didn’t sign it. Other people handled it.” (He did sign it)
  • On decisions about deportations following a judicial ruling halting them: “I’d have the Secretary of State handle it, because I’m not really involved in that.”
  • — And a few that the Post left out… —
  • On his 145% tariffs on China: “80% Tariff on China seems right! Up to Scott B.” [Scott Bessant, Treasury Secretary].”
  • On whether he agrees if citizens and non-citizens are covered by due process: “I don’t know. I’m not a lawyer.”
  • On whether he is required to uphold the Constitution: “I don’t know.”

So there you have it. Trump in his own words. He repeatedly admits that he has had little to do with any of these critical events that all occurred in the first three months of his reoccupation of the White House. This is the same guy who has criticized Biden, falsely, for using an autopen to sign everything. And this is the same guy who clearly has no idea what he himself is signing in his ludicrous executive order ceremonies that are obviously staged in the reality TV style that he is so comfortable with.

Trump is an utterly oblivious puppet president. They just put an executive order down in front of him and he signs it.He doesn't know what it does beyond the brief summary they give him. It could be an order to require all Americans to be vaccinated against the woke virus.

SRSLY? WH Propaganda Secretary: It’s ‘Ridiculous’ to Say Trump Does Anything For His Own Benefit

The prolific outpouring of preposterous pronouncements that emanate from Donald Trump’s White House create a daily flash flood of foolishness and farce. His Press/Propaganda Secretary, Karoline Leavitt, has effortlessly surpassed the record breaking threshold of lies achieved by her Republican predecessors.

Donald Trump and Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt

In addition to disseminating the daily dishonesty decreed by the Trump regime, Leavitt has purposefully turned the White House Press Room into an assembly of Trump-fluffing fringe figures from the InterTubes, who view their role as one of MAGA advocacy, as opposed to anything resembling journalism.

SEE THIS: Trump Declares Himself King of the White House Press Corps, Will Now Decide Who Can Question Him

On Friday Leavitt unleashed what may be the the most laughably fantastical comment of her brief tenure as Trump’s Politburo Chief. She was asked about Trump’s upcoming junket to the Middle East, and whether he would meet with anyone connected to his business interests there (video below). It was an appropriate question considering that his sons just announced a new luxury hotel project in Dubai. In response, an obviously annoyed Leavitt complained that…

“I think it’s frankly ridiculous that anyone in this room would even suggest that President Trump is doing anything for his own benefit. He left a life of luxury and a life of running a very successful real estate empire for public service. Not just once, but twice. And the American public reelected him back to this White House because they believe he acts in the best interest of our country and putting the American public first.”

First of all, what Trump left may have been a luxurious lifestyle, but it was also a struggling real estate enterprise that was so over-leveraged that he had to work as TV game show host to stay afloat financially. What’s more, he didn’t leave for public service. He left to further enrich himself, to satiate his massive ego by reigning over America as a dictator, and to avoid going to prison for the multitude of felonies he was convicted of, with many more on the docket.

What is “ridiculous” is the notion that anyone would buy into Trump’s facade of selflessness and sacrifice. Contrary to Leavitt’s warbling, everything Trump does is “for his own benefit.” If he was the least bit concerned about “the best interest of our country,” he wouldn’t have imposed his inflationary and recessionary Trump Taxes (aka tariffs) on America’s international trading partners; he wouldn’t be dismantling critical government agencies and cutting services such as Medicare and Medicaid; he wouldn’t be aligning himself with authoritarian tyrants and alienating American allies. But Leavitt wasn’t finished. She continued…

“This is the president that has actually lost money for being president of the United States. I don’t remember these same types of question being asked of my predecessor about a career politician who was clearly profiting off of his office. That is not what president Trump does. And this White House holds ourselves to the highest ethical standards.”

Leavitt: "I think it's frankly ridiculous that anyone in this room would even suggest that President Trump is doing anything for his own benefit. He left a life of luxury and a life of running a very successful real estate empire for public service."

Aaron Rupar (@atrupar.com) 2025-05-09T17:30:17.497Z

There is a kernel of truth in what Leavitt says here. Trump’s real estate ventures have suffered because people have been so repulsed by him that they have chosen to avoid patronizing his businesses. However, the larger truth is that Trump has exploited his presidency to earn billions of dollars in blatantly corrupt scams, such as his meme coin that is nothing more than a drop box for foreign nations and criminals to deposit what amounts to bribes and/or extortion.

While untold thousands of Trump cult disciples have lost fortunes, Trump and his cronies have raked in multimillions in untraceable contributions to his personal charity. That applies also to his Media venture that includes his Twitter ripoff, Truth Social. A recent story about which reveals that “Large institutional investors have massively increased their holdings of Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG) in recent months [raising] further questions about big business’s desire to curry favor with Donald Trump.”

As for Leavitt’s faulty memory, President Biden and his press team were relentlessly battered with inquiries about his finances, and particularly those of his family. Although, nothing ever came of it because, unlike Trump, there was never any shred of evidence of wrongdoing.

The consistently dishonest utterings of Leavitt reflect the mandate that she has been given by her notoriously dishonest, pathological lying boss. And that propensity for prevarication is woven throughout the Trump administration. When Leavitt speaks of holding to “the highest ethical standards,” she is looking at it from the depths of a trench of deceitfulness where no sunlight can reach. After all, she began her job as Trump’s mouthpiece by lying that “I commit to telling the truth from this podium every single day.”

Trump Watches MSNBC? Yep! And It’s Driving Him Crazy. So He Threatens to Tax and Penalize Them

Donald Trump’s television diet is ordinarily filled with the junk food and empty calories of Fox News, or OAN, or other devoted purveyors of MAGA propaganda. He feels secure in the bunker he has built that is populated by friendly pundits whose perpetual outpouring of praise feeds his massive, yet fragile ego.

Donald Trump

Trump’s fear of honest reporting keeps him in a state of constant anxiety and debilitating dread. However, on occasion he manages to stiffen his noodly spine sufficiently to hate-watch news programs that are something less than worshipful. In the meantime he barricades himself behind a wall of disciples who are ordered to sing his divine praises…

SEE THIS: Trump Gathers His Cabinet Members to Conduct Another Festival of Feckless Trump-Fluffing

On Friday morning Trump took to his failing Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, to express his outrage at a segment he had watched on MSNBC’s Morning Joe. The segment featured an interview of Stephanie Ruhle, a financial expert and host of an MSNBC primetime show. Ruhle’s analysis of Trump’s recessionary tariffs triggered another one of Trump’s tormented tantrums. He wrote that

“I just watched an exhausted, highly neurotic Stephanie Ruhle spew LIES about Tariffs, as do many others, in order not to give me the Victory that they all see coming.”

As usual, Trump is delusional. Ruhle’s reporting (video below), unlike Trump’s rant, was calm, reasonable, and rooted in facts. It was in line with what most reputable economists have concluded about Trump’s disastrous tax attacks on America’s international trading partners.

Trump went on to call his alleged “deal” with the UK “AMAZING,” and claimed, contrary to reality, that “We’re going to make a fortune with Tariffs [but that] only smart people understand that.” He still hasn’t explained how there will be any revenue from tariffs after he’s made all the deals he has promised in order to remove them.

Continuing in his infamously infantile fashion, Trump insulted Ruhle as “Never known as a ‘High IQ” person.'” And in closing he accused MSNBC of engaging in a “Major Campaign Violation,” and raged that…

“MSDNC has become the Voice of the Democrat Party, and they should be treated as a Political Advocate with all of the Taxes and Penalties therefrom. Their Ratings are terrible, but Brian Roberts and his crew should be forced to TELL THE TRUTH.”

Trump’s tunnel-blindness in asserting that MSNBC is “the Voice of the Democrat Party,” while ignoring how Fox News is literally aligned with his administration, is the purest form of hypocrisy. MSNBC has numerous Republicans on their roster, including Joe Scarborough, whose show he was actually watching as he unleashed this screed. Trump, meanwhile has recruited at least 21 Fox News hacks to serve in his White House.

What’s more, Trump is again demanding that the free press protections in the Constitution be discarded so that he can impose “Taxes and Penalties” on the network, and “force” it to tell whatever bullpucky he regards as the truth.

For the record, the segment that is apparently the cause of Trump’s concern included the following discourse by Ruhle who warned that Trump “needs to get off this crazy tariff train, and he knows it.” [Because] unless he turns this around…we’re going to have a COVID-like supply chain crisis.”

“Donald Trump is backed into a corner. His grand plan of tariffs, tariffs, tariffs, aren’t working. You’re seeing, day in and day out, more business leaders – whether it’s Warren Buffett or Jamie Dimon or Ken Griffin – on big global stages saying ‘This is going to crush us economically.’ And then you’ve got congressmen, senators, saying to this White House ‘our small businesses are strangling, are dying here.'”

"Unless he turns this around, three weeks from now, you walk into a store and we're going to have a covid-like supply chain crisis, and Trump is looking for an exit" — here's the @stephruhle.bsky.social commentary that triggered a Trump Truth Social meltdown

Aaron Rupar (@atrupar.com) 2025-05-09T16:31:48.237Z

Everything that Ruhle said was true and verifiable. Conversely, everything that Trump said was fantasy and preposterous. Not to mention un-American and inspired by the authoritarian practices of Trump’s heroes, Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping, and Kim Jong Un. But then, what do you expect from a wannabe dictator who doom-scrolls cable TV networks that he despises?

Trump’s Brain is MUSH! He Struggles to Hype His Weak UK Deal as His Minions Go Full Cult Mode

When Donald Trump announced his bizarrely named “Liberation Day” plan to impose his Trump taxes – aka tariffs – on the world, he promised that it would produce billions of dollars in revenue as the deals he would make would be signed at an impossibly accelerated rate, at one point saying that there would be “90 deals in 90 days.”

Donald Trump

Needless to say, that was just more of the hollow hyperbole that Trump disgorges in place of actual substance or facts. Forty-six days later, Trump has announced only one deal, so he’s 45 deals short. Nevertheless, he has spent the last few days boasting about his failure to fulfill his trade deal promises. Only Trump can brag about failing.

SEE THIS: Trump Brags that He Failed to Sign a Single Trade Deal Since His ‘Liberation Day’ Tariffs Began

On Thursday morning Trump finally announced a trade deal. It was with the United Kingdom. And in Trump’s mind it was a monumentally historic achievement. He called it a “full and comprehensive,” deal, but also contradicted himself, saying that the details will be “written up in the coming weeks.” When asked about specifics such as beef and movies, he said they would be negotiated separately.

Trump also claimed that “America will raise $6 BILLION DOLLARS in External Revenue from 10% Tariffs.” What he isn’t saying is that that money will be “raised” by Americans paying more for the tariffed products that Trump’s policy has created. What’s more, he isn’t being honest about the benefits of the UK deal. As economics professor Justin Wolfers notes…

Trump's "big" trade deal is with the UK:- It's a framework not a deal- They're our 11th largest trading partner- They're only 3% of US trade (97% to go)- They *already* charge average tariffs of only 1% (limited upside)It's a photo op, not a macroeconomically significant moment.

Justin Wolfers (@justinwolfers.bsky.social) 2025-05-08T11:35:11.717Z

Despite these facts, Trump’s cult devotees are drooling over him as if he were the second coming of their lord. Leading the pack of Trump apostles is his Commerce Secretary, Howard Lutnick, who is infamous for his callous insensitivity toward America’s moms and other Social Security recipients. During Trump’s announcement of the UK deal, Lutnick gushed that…

“I want to make this clear. This was the president’s deal. People think, ‘Oh, that’s not the way it works.’ I have the best dealmaker to my left. If you don’t think that we take advantage of him calling the Prime Minister and getting that deal done, you don’t understand who’s the president of the United States. So he’s the closer. He gets deals done that we could never get done because he understands business, he understands deals, and that’s why we’re here today.”

Lutnick: "I want to make this clear. This was the president's deal. People think, 'Oh, that's not the way it works.' I have the best dealmaker to my left. If you don't think that we take advantage of him calling the PM & getting that deal done, you don't understand who's president. He's the closer."

Aaron Rupar (@atrupar.com) 2025-05-08T15:07:19.152Z

REALLY? Trump’s understanding of business and deals is limited to his experience of having declared six bankruptcies, and his having been found guilty of 34 felonies related to his financial malfeasance. As for being the “best dealmaker,” he still hasn’t resolved the Israeli/Gaza war or the Russian/Ukrainian war that he said he would end within 24 hours if he was elected.

Another example of Trump’s business acumen came during the UK deal announcement when he said that toy maker Mattel – who said that they will have to raise prices due to Trump’s tariffs – is “the only country I’ve heard that said, ‘we’re gonna try going someplace else.’ Let ’em go and we’ll put a 100% tariff on their Barbies.” That’s right, he said that Mattel is a country. And for his apologists who would dismiss it as a trivial verbal gaffe, he also said he would slap a tariff on them. Which is not something you do to companies, but only to countries.

Trump is utterly INSANE!He calls Mattel a country, and threatens to impose a 100% tariff on it, which would be illegal (you can't tariff a single company).

News Corpse (@newscorpse.bsky.social) 2025-05-08T16:32:18.804Z

This is the level of competence that Trump has brought to the presidency. And it is evident in everything from trade, to economics, to immigration, to foreign policy, to the climate crisis, and more. He has an incomparable way of misunderstanding everything, and then lying about what he failed to grasp. And his embarrassing performance at this trade deal press conference is just the latest affirmation of his flaming incompetence.
