The most prominent issue of concern to the American people throughout the 2026 midterm election has been the cost of living. Majorities of voters across the political spectrum have identified the struggle to pay for necessities such as gas, groceries, healthcare, and housing, as the most motivating factor in their votes.

Which makes it all the more remarkable that Donald Trump and his MAGA Party have positioned themselves as defenders of the wealthy and the giant corporations that are gouging consumers. Trump himself has championed policies (tariffs, the war in Iran, deregulation, etc.) that have fueled runaway inflation. In fact, he seems to be downright proud of it.

Trump’s pride in advancing the welfare of the rich was on full display again for Halloween. He hosted a party at his Mar-a-Lago resort/home that catered to the millionaires and billionaires who Trump calls friends, and who shovel funds to him in myriad sleazy manners including crypto merchandise, and phony tributes. And true to form, Trump expressed his approval of his upper-crusty pals at his exclusive luxury gala when he was asked about his “costume” …
“I came as Donald Trump. I didn’t have time to get — people spent a lot of time and money. Rich people. They spent nine hours getting ready. I had 10 minutes. So I came as Donald Trump.”
Trump at the Mar-a-Lago Halloween party: "I came as Donald Trump…These people spend a lot of time and money; rich people — they'll spend nine hours getting ready. I had 10 minutes, so I came as Donald Trump tonight."
Oooh…SCARY! Trump is a truly frightening figure to most Americans. Just the fact that somebody so ignorant, and hateful, and power hungry, has managed to assume a position of power in America is terrifying. No one will be surprised by Trump embracing the affluent class in the opulence of his Palm Beach estate. But just to drive the point home, Trump elaborated in comments reported by the New York Times…
“‘Look at all my rich members,’ he told reporters. ‘They spent all day getting ready. Look at these guys.’ He added: ‘These are the biggest guys on Wall Street.'”
That’s right. Trump is partying with “the biggest guys on Wall Street,” while way too many Americans are staying home, pinching pennies, and lining up at food banks. Meanwhile, the Trump regime is cutting funding for programs that help these citizens. The Times went on to note that…
“It was a striking tone, with polls showing voters souring even more on Mr. Trump’s handling of the economy. One recent one from The New York Times and Siena University found that a majority of voters blame Mr. Trump for the decline: 69 percent disapprove of his handling of the cost of living, 65 percent disapprove of the war in Iran, and nearly 75 percent disapprove of the high price of gas and diesel.”
At a time when the issue of affordability has incited greater participation in politics, with most of the movement going toward the Democrats – and even Democratic Socialists – the tone deafness of Trump and his MAGA comrades is painfully telling. It affirms that they never cared about the welfare of the working class, and never will. And now they aren’t even trying to hide it. Especially Donald “Marie Antoinette” Trump and his “Let them eat cake” crusade. VOTE BLUE!
