The hardships endured by people trying to cover bills for gas, groceries, housing, healthcare, and more, have been uppermost on the minds of voters, as well as most conscientious politicians. He has swung wildly from claiming credit for ending the the crisis, to insisting that it is a Democratic hoax that never existed in the first place. In an attempt to reinforce the Trump regime’s position that affordability isn’t really a problem, Trump dispatched his Propaganda Secretary, Karoline Leavitt, to her regular post on Fox News for a friendly interview with Jesse Watters. The segment delivered some of the most callously oblivious commentaries on the subject imaginable.

Watters: Some of these kids, and I call them kids because they’re in their 20s and they’ve never had real jobs and they’re complaining things are expensive in the U.S. Yes, things are expensive when you don’t have a real job. Do you think that’s getting traction? Complaining?
Leavitt: Unfortunately, I do because this generation, my generation, I hate to say it, Gen Z and those younger than me have been raised with just silver spoons in their mouths, just getting everything handed to them. That’s not the values this country was built on. […]
Watters: Is it laziness?
Leavitt: A little bit.
Watters: Because the professor said the country’s corrupt. It’s evil. And we just need to shake them down and hand money out.
Leavitt: It’s laziness and it’s liberal indoctrination. You bring up a great point about our education system. […]
Watters: I say if they misbehave just make all these young kids join the army.
Leavitt: Send them to Cuba. Send them to Iran.

So to start off, Watters asserts that the only reason things are perceived as expensive by young people is that they don’t have “real” jobs. And Leavitt agrees, accusing them of having been born into privilege and never knowing the meaning of work. Elaborating, they both malign them as “lazy.” They also both neglect to recognize that it isn’t just young people who are plagued by the economic burdens of the Trump agenda. Americans of all ages are well aware of Trump’s disastrous effect on the U.S. economy.

Leavitt and Watters are delivering a great message from the MAGA team in an election year during which they are already projected to suffer significant losses. They are telling a critical voting bloc that if you’re troubled with how expensive things are, it’s just because you’re a lazy communist who has been indoctrinated by evil college professors. Even worse, Leavitt and Watters propose that these spoiled, youthful, complaining, ingrates be forced to join the army and be sent to Cuba or Iran. That’ll teach ’em.

Leavitt went on to promote homeschooling and Christian schools for parents who “don’t want their children being taught these communist and liberal ideas slammed down their throat.” She prefers the fascist and conservative ideas embraced by Trump and his MAGA confederates. Which is an angle that Democrats will be happy to see Republicans adopting as November approaches. As is often the case, what Republicans are doing to advance their agenda will be truly fantastic – for Democrats.

Meanwhile, Republicans are facing the almost certain loss of the majority in the House of Representatives, and a likely similar loss in the Senate. The GOP response to these dire predictions has been to double and triple down on extremist hyperbole that diverges entirely from anything that matters to voters, and from reality itself.

The whole of Trump’s MAGA Party is following his lead in trying to malign Democrats as communists. Never mind that they have no rational basis for that charge. It is just more of their explosive diarhetorica that they are dispensing out of pure desperation.

Naturally, Trump is taking the lead in this reprise of the “red scare” attacks that failed so miserably in the 1950s. To that end Trump posted a hysterical comment on his failing Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, that illustrates his devotion to dredging up tactics that didn’t work 75 years ago. His comment began by announcing that…

“Today I am declaring a National Scallops Day to celebrate an action taken by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) that will open up the Northern Edge of Georges Bank to Scallops Fishing, fulfilling the dream to our Great Fishermen who were so badly treated by the Obama and Biden Administrations, and by the Country of Canada.”

FINALLY! Someone is doing something about the horror that Democrats imposed by depriving citizens of their god-given supply of marine mollusks, and “fulfilling the dream” of American fishermen. Trump bragged that, in order to do this, he “terminated” the environmental monument status of sensitive waters on both U.S. coasts, saying that…

“I have opened up the Oceans, Rivers, Lakes, and Seas to our Fishermen, and freed them from ridiculous Environmental restrictions that allowed other countries to take advantage of the United States’ Waters under Barack Hussein Obuma, Sleepy Joe Biden, and the Dumocrats.”

Following that display of childish name-calling, Trump revealed in all caps what may become his rallying cry for the remainder of the midterm election campaign season…

“GO OUT AND VOTE REPUBLICAN IN THE MIDTERMS, BECAUSE IF THE COMMUNISTS GET IN, YOU’LL NEVER FISH AGAIN!”

HOLY SHIH TZU! Trump is accusing Democrats of plotting to prohibit all fishing forever. And to his cabal of MAGA disciples, that is a totally reasonable accusation of something they are eagerly ready to believe that Democrats will actually do.

Yet Somehow the MAGA-tists haven’t realized that it is their Dear Leader who is the aspiring communist. He is the one who is implementing communist-like control over the “means of production” by taking a role in corporate mergers, demanding multimillion dollar payments from corporations seeking government favors, forcing corporations to sell parts of the businesses to the government, and defunding public media such as PBS, NPR, and Radio Free America. He has even sued media conglomerates for billions of dollars, forcing them to either pay up or suffer his retribution.

Communist leaders like Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un are drooling with admiration and envy. But while Democrats and most other patriotic Americans are appalled, from a strictly political perspective they are pretty excited. Because the more that Trump and his GOP confederates focus on this sort of red baiting idiocy, the better chances Democrats will have of victories in November. So go for it, Donald. We’ll see you at your next impeachment hearing.

The prospects for Democrats regaining majorities in the House of Representatives and the Senate are growing and are strong enough that Trump and his confederates are becoming increasingly desperate to engage in some sort of election interference. That has already begun with the Trump regime spewing nonsense about Democrats being communists who are purposely trying to destroy America.

Another tactic in Trump’s bag of dirty tricks is his use of federal resources to buy the support of state officials and voters. The latest example of this came in a series of posts to his dedicated propaganda platform, Truth Social, wherein he announced that he is distributing nearly a billion dollars to nine states that he claims is for disaster relief. The list of states is conspicuously partisan in that they are all states that he won in 2024, including…

Georgia: $318.3 Million; Michigan: $32.1 Million; Louisiana: $8.6 Million; Wisconsin: $22.6 Million; Missouri: $27.6 Million; Idaho: $4.5 Million; Mississippi: $11 Million; Kansas: $5.5 Million; and Florida: $415.9 Million; Total = 846.1Million.

Trump didn’t say where these funds would be coming from. Under ordinary circumstances disaster relief would be provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). But Trump has had a rocky relationship with them that has gone back and forth between reluctant cooperation and outright detestation.

For instance, in January Trump announced a batch of dubious disbursements providing millions of dollars to many of the same states. He posted on Truth social that “We are working closely with FEMA.”

However, a year prior to that, and just after his second inauguration, Trump posted a comment in all caps saying that “FEMA SHOULD BE TERMINATED! IT HAS BEEN SLOW AND TOTALLY INEFFECTIVE. INDIVIDUAL STATES SHOULD HANDLE STORMS, ETC.”

That’s the sort of derangement that we are seeing from Trump in ever more frequent lapses of his cognitive abilities. Yet he remains mentally stable enough to execute his devious schemes to acquire and retain power and wealth at the expense of the American people.

The problem is that these types of mental impairments are degenerative, and we can only expect them to get worse as time goes by. And sadly, no one in his family or political circles cares enough about him or the nation to have him committed.

UPDATE: It is now being reported that under Trump FEMA has actually declined $227 million in disaster relief to four blue states that didn’t vote for him.

Consequently, Trump is ramping up the hyperbole in his daily incoherent rants. He’s giving deranged speeches that consist mainly of infantile insults aimed at his perceived enemies, exaltations of himself for his vanity driven Capitol “beautification” projects, and dispensing lies pretty much every time he opens his mouth. Most of all, he is trying to malign Democrats as anti-American traitors, but his characterization of them as villains from 1950s comic books isn’t helping his own self image at all.

On Monday morning Trump dispatched his Propaganda Secretary, Karoline Leavitt, to her regular post on Fox News to assist his failing PR campaign. It doesn’t seem like she did much to help. But she gave it her all in attempting to advance Trump’s latest desperate effort to portray Democrats as communists. She engaged in the following exchange with Fox’s Lawrence Jones…

Leavitt: These are radical, Marxist ideas that have never worked in the history of the world. And I think that it’s a choice coming up between communism and common sense. That’s how the president views it. And that’s why Americans need to vote for this president and Republican Party and the common sense ideals that make this the greatest nation in the history of the world.
Jones: Do you think this helps the president and the Republican Party during the midterms that they have decided in this Democratic Socialist civil war that this is the new Democratic Party?
Leavitt: It certainly is.

This is yet another example of dimwitted, purposefully misleading, Republicans demonstrating that they have absolutely no idea what the definition of communism is. They just use the word as an all-purpose pejorative to frighten their equally ignorant cult followers. They might as well be warning about a pack of invading Sasquatch soldiers.

Leavitt and Trump and other hive-minded Republicans were triggered by recent primary victories by progressive Democrats. Some of them identify as Democratic Socialists, who are not communists. In fact, Democratic Socialists are in the mainstream of American politics that brought about things like Social Security, interstate highways, public libraries, Obamacare, and more of the most popular programs in the nation’s history.

What’s more, the GOP’s efforts to brand Democrats across the country as Socialists is small minded. The Democratic Party is big enough to embrace progressive Democrats in blue states and conservative Democrats in red and purple states. It isn’t one size fits all with blinded purity tests, like Republicans.

Communism, on the other hand, is a theory of government that proposes eliminating private ownership and placing the means of production in the control of the government. There is absolutely no Democrat who has supported anything even close to those ideas. Ironically, only Trump has advocated for those policies. And in office he has been exerting state power over previously independent institutions such as banking, defense, technology, transportation, and even the free press.

Trump has wielded that power by taking a role in corporate mergers, demanding multimillion dollar payments from corporations seeking government favors, and even forcing corporations to sell parts of the businesses to the government, or to him. It’s hard to tell if knows the difference. It’s as close to communism as any American president has ever come.

As for the media, while Trump has defunded public media such as PBS, NPR, and even Radio Free America, he has literally sued media conglomerates for billions of dollars, forcing them to either pay up or suffer retribution dished out by regulatory agencies over which he has assumed corrupt control. And too often they have acquiesced. Communist leaders like Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un are watching with envy.

The closer we get to the midterms, the more brazen Trump is getting. Just this month he has posted comments on his dedicated propaganda platform, Truth Social, warning that…

“In a time when there is a powerful Communist Movement taking place in our Country, one more dangerous than World War I, World War II, Pearl Harbor, or September 11th.”

And that…

“I’d be the Greatest Communist in History. I’d give free rent, free houses, free food, everything is free. Unfortunately, after two or three years, the Country where this is taking place would fail. […] These are not social Dumocrats, these are hard core, godless Communists.”

So far, none of this is succeeding in improving Trump’s standing with the American people. Which means that, knowing Trump, we can expect him to continue to sharpen his attacks and make them even less comprehensible. And of course, he will lie and misrepresent reality to his MAGA cult at every opportunity. As an example of how far he will diverge from reality, Trump is claiming to have his “Highest Poll Numbers Ever.” No, really…

Trump: Every election is important. We’re doing very well. They want a lot of communists to come in. I’m saying it a little bit differently, but the people that they’re pushing are communists. And this country is not going to have Communists.

Setting aside Trump's preposterous ranting about imaginary communists, he is now admitting that his "Save America Act" (aka Voter Suppression Act) is NOT really about voter integrity or ID, but it's about changing the outcome of elections to the MAGA-tists in his cult.

Notice that Trump didn’t come close to answering the question about the comparable relevance of his voting bill to resolving the crisis in housing costs. That’s at least partly because he couldn’t care less about the problems of real people when measured against his fixation on retaining and enhancing his authoritarian power.

To drive that point home, Trump canceled a scheduled press conference and is refusing to sign a bipartisan Housing bill that would actually benefit many Americans in order to bully Republicans into passing his anti-constitutional Voter Suppression Act. He posted on his dedicated propaganda platform, Truth Social that…

“Today’s Housing News Conference and Signing is hereby cancelled until such time as we pass the desperately needed SAVE AMERICA ACT, which I consider to be a National Emergency. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DJT”

Trump is so SCARED of LOSING BIGLY in the upcoming midterm elections, that he is blocking a bill that will actually help the struggling American people in order to bully Republicans into passing his anti-constitutional Save America Act – aka Voter Suppression Act.

Instead of responding to the question, Trump ranted incoherently about [gasp] “communists” taking over the country. Of course, he has no idea what communism is. He just uses the word as an all-purpose pejorative to insult Democrats.

Just before gallivanting off Evian, France, Trump threw himself an 80th birthday bash at the White House with a show of sweaty, half-naked men wrestling in a giant cage. Just the sort of thing that exudes the dignity and honor of the presidential residence. And Trump made certain to offer his own personal expressions of honor…

The next day Trump boarded Air Force One to jet off to France for the annual G7 summit with the leaders of the world’s wealthiest, most highly industrialized democracies. And while there he comported himself in exactly the manner that you would expect of a vulgarian with no diplomatic sensibilities whatsoever. What follows are three notable examples of how Trump embarrasses America every time he opens his mouth. And representing our nation on the world stage doesn’t seem to temper his grotesquery.

TRUMP THREATENS TO NUKE SOME NUCLEAR ARMED NATIONS
“Whoever sells them [Iran] a nuclear weapon will get nuked themselves, if they sold a nuclear weapon, only a few that could do it, they would be nuked. They wouldn’t have that country long.”
REALLY? So Trump is threatening to nuke Russia, or China, or North Korea, or maybe France? Does he think that they wouldn’t defend themselves by nuking the U.S. right back? Does he think at all?

TRUMP THANKS XI JINPING AND VLADIMIR PUTIN FOR BEING NEUTRAL
“I want to thank China and President XI. I was with him, and he stayed neutral, totally neutral, and I appreciate it. And I would want to thank Vladimir Putin. He was very neutral. They could have made it much more difficult for us.”
For the record, Iran did receive military technology, drones, and missile components from China. And Russia shared intelligence that actually helped Iran to locate and kill U.S. forces. Both countries propped up the Iranian economy by purchasing discounted Iranian oil. So thanks, from your fanboy Trump.

TRUMP DISPARAGES AMERICAN DEMOCRACY
“Nobody plays rougher than the United States. Look, our elections are totally rigged. We have rigged elections.”
So Trump currently presides over an all-Republican government with GOP majorities in Congress and the Supreme Court, but still chastises the U.S. for having “rigged” elections? Maybe he’s right. If our elections were free and fair there would be more political diversity. The Electoral College and the Senate representation is anything but fair.

Also, Trump complains about his buddy, former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro, being convicted for plotting a military coup after the 2022 election. But Trump ignores his own persecution of Democrats like Gov. Gavin Newsom, Senators Mark Kelly, Elissa Slotkin, Adam Schiff, etc., New York Attorney General Letitia James, former FBI Director James Comey, and many more.

Also notable is a Trump post at 2:50am on his failing Twitter ripoff, Truth Social. He endorsed MAGA GOP Rep. Mike Collins for the Senate in Georgia, but had little to say about Collins. However, he calls his Democratic opponent, current Sen. Jon Osoff, “Os(jerk)off.” That’s Trump always staying classy and setting a standard for America’s kids.

This Trump comment illustrates just how unfit he is for any office.He thinks he's clever with his infantile nicknames, calling Sen. Jon Osoff "Os(jerk)off." What a great role model for America's children.However, Democrats will welcome him to Georgia to campaign for Collins. Come often, Donnie.

The GOP and their Dear Leader think that if a Republican who is a former Fox News hack, and another who is a reality TV goofball, are not winning, there must be something terribly wrong. Leading the charge to declare all election outcomes phony if Republicans don’t win, is the GOP Speaker of the House of Representatives, MAGA Mike Johnson. And he is employing some novel arguments to make his case. In an exchange with CNN’s congressional correspondent, Manu Raju, Johnson shamelessly floated the theory that the absence of factual evidence of wrongdoing is proof that wrongdoing took place. When asked about the whether he though the California electins were rigged, Johnson whined that…

Johnson: I’m not saying it’s rigged. I’m saying it stinks to high heaven, and everybody knows that. Let’s remove the appearance of impropriety. What a concept. Let’s have votes on an election the day of the election. That’s what many states are able to do. I think California is playing around with us.
Raju: But what evidence is there to prove that the election was rigged?
Johnson: Some of these efforts are so diabolical and so far upstream, it is impossible to prove. But I think everybody knows instinctively something is wrong here, and that’s a concern. We need people to believe in the integrity of our election system.

Let’s unravel Johnson’s flaming bullshittery. To begin with he denies saying that the election is rigged, only that it stinks. What exactly is his point? Then he complains that the election results aren’t finalized on election day. Which is common in states that have mail-in voting, including Johnson’s state of Louisiana.

More to the point, Johnson’s contention that Democrats have engaged in something so “diabolical” that “it is impossible to prove” any wrongdoing. And he claims that the absence of such proof is therefore proof in itself of wrongdoing. He thinks that Democrats are so good at covering up their schemes that the schemes must have taken place. By that logic, Johnson is actually the Zodiac Killer. And the proof is that there isn’t any evidence of it. So he must have been really good at covering it up.

Johnson went on to claim that “everybody knows instinctively something is wrong.” And as an experienced lawmaker and leader of his party, Johnson knows that “instinct” is the criteria on which legal rulings are based. Who needs facts or evidence when you have strong feelings? Did the defendant murder his wife? I feel like he did, so send him to the gas chamber. Case closed.

That’s the level of intellectual scrutiny that Republicans give to election integrity. It’s a bar that was placed extraordinarily low by their Dear Leader Trump. And Johnson is very concerned about people believing in the integrity of our election system. Which is why he and Trump do nothing but trash the system every chance they get, without even a shred of evidence. That will instill the confidence he claims to crave, right? Right? RIGHT?

Clearly the Trump regime couldn’t care less about election integrity. To the contrary they are focused solely on creating skepticism and division. They know they can’t win elections on the merits of their policies and competence. So their only remaining option is make as many people as possible doubt that the elections are legitimate.

Hence their fixation on declaring that is everything rigged, despite never providing any proof. And now that absence of proof, in their minds, is its own proof that it’s all rigged. What a brilliantly asinine strategy to undermine democracy.

But never let it be said that Trump is incapable of focusing on a subject that he deems important when he wants to. Sometimes for weeks, months, years, longer than anyone else would consider reasonable or sane. Trump’s capacity to concentrate intensely on nonsense that advances his delusions is unparalleled in modern times.

On Sunday Trump was interviewed by Kristen Welker on Meet the Press. He was profoundly unhinged throughout the interview. But he was particularly consumed by his years-long obsession with imaginary election fraud in 2020, and with equally ridiculous claims regarding California’s recent primary. Welker repeatedly challenged Trump, saying that he had never presented any supporting evidence of his wild allegations. Which caused Trump to wig out and shuffle off in huff.

Then, on Sunday night, Trump dropped a post on his dedicated propaganda platform, Truth Social, attempting to shore up his baseless claims that “there is tremendous evidence” of election fraud. But his “evidence” was a re-post by Patrick Colbeck, CEO of Lindell Management, a company created by MyPillow conspiracy crackpot, Mike Lindell, to spread election fraud lies.

Colbeck linked to “evidence” compiled by Lindell’s widely debunked “Election Crime Bureau” website. He claimed that “We have over 800 findings in support of President Trump of which over 550 are ESTABLISHED FACT.” None of which were actually factual, and certainly not established. His “findings” were just rumors and fabrications that were proven false every time they were reviewed by independent analysts or contested in court.

In fact, Lindell was actually found liable for defamation in a lawsuit brought by the election technology company, Smartmatic. He was also found liable for defamation in a separate lawsuit brought by an employee of Dominion Voting Systems. And if that weren’t enough, he was investigated by the FBI for sending misleading emails that sought to acquire sensitive, private data from election officials.

Lindell’s operation tried unsuccessfully to push his fraud conspiracy theories for years with a circus-like “Cyber Symposium” and bold declarations that he had incontrovertible proof of fraud, none of which ever panned out. What’s more, there were more than 60 civil cases that alleged election fraud in the years following Trump’s humiliating loss in 2020. Not a single one of them found any shred of fraud.

However, none of that has deterred Trump from continuing to push his “Big Lie” that the election was “rigged and stolen” from him. And he’s still clinging to the preposterous fables crafted by Lindell. Trump’s stubbornness even resulted in his posting a shocking confession about the state of elections in America today. He proudly declares that…

“I believe we have the Most Dishonest Elections of any Country, anywhere in the World!”

USA. USA. USA. WE’RE NUMBER ONE! Even more dishonest than Russia, or Hungary, or North Korea. They’re all losers compared to what Trump has done to America.

This is quite a confession from the current president of the United States who won two elections.It sounds like he's bragging, and signaling his intentions for future elections.TRUMP: "I'm the Most Dishonest by far, and better at being Dishonest at levels never seen before."

Trump Fear

For as long as he has been in the public eye, Trump has played the victim and reacted with abject cowardice to any perceived threat. What’s truly amazing is that anyone views him as anything other than the whiny toddler that he personifies.

On Sunday morning Trump proved once again that he doesn’t have the courage to stand up to even the most mild dissent. He was interviewed by Kristen Welker on Meet the Press (video below), and he spent the whole time complaining, interrupting, insulting, and of course, lying. The interview was a monumental waste of time for anyone seeking something newsworthy. But for those who just wanted some more proof of how utterly unfit Trump is for any office of leadership, it was a bonanza of examples of his mental impairment and emotional instability.

Leading off, Welker brought up Trump’s “weaponization” slush fund to reward violent January 6th StormTrumpers. There was such broad agreement that the fund was illegal and immoral that Trump’s acting Attorney Genuflect, Todd Blanche, had already told Congress that he wouldn’t be implementing it. However, his reputation is so tainted that nobody believes him. So Welker asked Trump…

“Are you backing off the fund completely as your acting Attorney General Todd Blanche has said, or are you looking for another avenue to revive the fund?”

Trump dodged the question to “explain” the purpose of the slush fund, which no one asked him. He said that it was compensation for people who had been “hurt so badly by the radical left lunatics that worked for the Biden administration.” He eventually got around to an answer saying “Personally, I think the weaponization fund is a great idea…you have to get it approved.” Then he rambled some more, asserting that he wouldn’t rule out giving taxpayer money to convicted rioters who assaulted police officers. Just what taxpayers want.

Then Trump assumed the role of the rioters’ defense lawyer, arguing that they had been framed by “dirty cops” and FBI agents. When Welker replied that there is no evidence of that, Trump told her to “look at the tapes,” Which everyone has done many times and found nothing that exonerated the rioters. Welker noted that many of the rioters had pleaded guilty. So Trump claimed that they were bullied into doing so. Again, it was a claim with no evidence. So next Trump began insulting Welker personally. He said that…

“People like you, the fake dirty press – people like stupid Biden, he’s not smart enough to know what’s going on – they destroyed people. They sent people to jail who did nothing wrong.”

Welker again noted that there was no evidence of that. To which Trump delusionally replied “There’s a lot of evidence. Listen to me. There’s tremendous evidence. There’s nothing but evidence.” Welker then noted that “It’s not been presented in a court of a law.” In fact, every case associated with January 6th rioters produced nothing but confirmation of their guilt. Not a single one was acquitted or any conviction overturned on appeal. Pitifully lost, Trump then jumped to a completely different subject, saying that…

“The election was rigged. It was a dirty election. And it’s happening again right now in California…They’re cheating on the election.”

Again Welker asks him if he has any evidence of that. His reply is that “All you have to do is look.” At what? Trump’s answer, of course, isn’t evidence. He continued with a childish retort saying that “You’re crooked, and Meet the Press is crooked, and so is ABC, and CBS, and CNN.” And just to make sure that she understood, he added that “You’re either crooked, or you’re stupid.”

Trump then cut off the interview saying “Sorry. Let’s call it quits because I’ve had enough. Thank you, darling. Have a good time.” That was Trump’s way of fleeing danger, because he saw that Welker wasn’t going to allow him to get away with his standard bullshittery. And he threw in a bit of misogynistic hate-speech for fun.

Anyone watching this with an open mind can see that Trump is scared and desperate to find a way out of this torment. But the only thing he can think of is to scamper off to the safety that his staff of devoted cult disciples provides.

The entire morning achieved nothing for Trump. But it did give his critics more proof of his acutely damaged psyche. The best that Trump can take away from this is that at least he didn’t fall asleep during the interview.

Donald Trump once promised that if he was elected there would be so much winning that people would get sick of it. Well, he was partly right. He got elected, and people are sick. However, winning hasn’t been the catastrophe that he predicted.

Donald Trump Walking the Plank

Trump’s win/loss record is not exactly something to brag about. His economy is in the toilet. The Republican majority Congress just voted to rein in his war powers authority. His “weaponization” slush fund was ruled illegal in federal court. So were his inflationary tariffs. And his reckless and illegal war against Iran continues despite his relentless and impotent declarations of victory.

No wonder Trump is also losing badly in polls measuring the public’s approval of him, or more accurately, disapproval. He has been hitting new lows with nearly every new survey. And it isn’t just his repulsive persona that is dragging him down. His policies are broadly unpopular, including economics, foreign affairs, immigration, and his multitude of ego-boosting projects to pay tribute to himself.

On Friday, CNN’s data analyst, Harry Enten, revealed the results of a new poll that specifically surveyed rural voters. That’s a demographic that has been among the most reliable group of supporters for Trump. But that is clearly not the case anymore. According To Enten…

“There seems to be a rural revolt going on in this country against Donald Trump. According to Fox News he was easily winning them back in October 2024 versus Kamala Harris. Eighteen points ahead.

“But look at where he is now. Down there, underwater, underneath the cornfields. He’s now 14 points underwater. That’s an over 30 point switcheroo against the president of the United States.[…] He is 19 points underwater with rural voters on inflation. That is an over 50 point switcheroo. Rural voters, like the rest of the country, turning against Trump on the key issue that got him elected to a second term back in 2024.”.

That’s right! According to a poll by Trump’s official Ministry of Propaganda, Fox News, America’s rural voters are – as Enten notes – “like the rest of the country, turning against Trump.” And with good reason. Trump’s war has resulted in increases in costs for vital necessities in rural communities, including gas and other energy, fertilizer, groceries, and healthcare which is suffering from the closure of many rural hospitals and clinics.

Meanwhile, Trump’s wars and incompetent diplomacy has alienated America’s trading partners and resulted in international markets for American agricultural products to collapse. Here at home, the rise in prices for those products has depressed domestic shoppers. In short, Trump is presiding over a perfect storm of economic adversity that touches the lives of every American. And those in rural communities are no exception.

Consequently, Trump’s political tribulations are only just beginning. He knows that he is facing an epic season of disaster in the upcoming midterm elections. So he’s pulling out all the stops to advance his crackpot conspiracy theories of voting fraud. And, as usual, he’s providing no evidence whatsoever.

However, unlike his previous episodes of derangement, Trump cannot blame it all on what he calls “radical, left, lunatics.” That’s a label he’ll have a hard time sticking onto red state farmers and ranchers. But never underestimate Trump’s ability to swerve into hypocrisy and blind, rage-filled hate and retribution. He has already lost support among Latino voters, and youth, and even non-MAGA Republicans. So rural voters could very well be the next target of his wrath. Anyone who crosses him is vulnerable. No one is immune.
