From his earliest days in the political realm, Donald Trump has had a love/hate relationship with the media. He loves when they pay attention to him and put his name in the headlines. And he hates when they report honestly about him his legal and moral misconduct, and his anti-American, authoritarian aspirations.

As a result of this psychotic dichotomy, Trump often simultaneously finds himself lapping up the lavish praise that he gets from MAGA media like Fox News, while lashing out viciously at reputable journalists who are just doing their job. The former get favors from Trump and his regime, while the latter get insults and both personal and professional punishment.

On Friday morning CNN reported that Trump’s “Justice” Department had arrested Don Lemon on charges of interfering with worshipers at a church service in Minneapolis. The charges stem from Lemon’s coverage of a protest at the church where the pastor was also an Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent.

Lemon’s presence at the protest was purely as a journalist. But the DoJ asserts – without evidence – that he was a conspirator in an effort to disrupt the church’s proceedings. Despite all available evidence, including video of Lemon’s reporting, Trump’s Attorney General announced that…

“At my direction, early this morning, federal agents arrested Don Lemon, Trahern Jeen Crews, Georgia Fort, and Jamael Lydell Lundy, in connection with the coordinated attack on Cities Church in St. Paul, Minnesota.”

It will be interesting to see what proof Bondi has that Lemon had participated in an “attack” that he “coordinated” with other protesters. Video of his reporting contradicts Bondi’s account. Just as video of the murders of Renee Good and Alex Pretti contradicted the DoJ’s account of those atrocities.

However, Bondi was just getting warmed up. Later that morning she posted a message on Twitter/X that was plainly intended to squelch any dissenting views from the free press. In the sinister voice of a bad Bond villain, Bondi scowled…

“Make no mistake, under President Trump’s leadership and this administration, you have the right to worship freely and safely. And if I haven’t been clear already, if you violate that sacred right, we are coming after you.”

Lemon’s attorney, Abbe Lowell posted a message announcing that “Don was taken into custody by federal agents last night in Los Angeles.” He noted that Lemon’s arrest is an “unprecedented attack on the First Amendment.” It’s also a deliberate attempt to intimidate any other journalists who are contemplating reporting on the abuses of Trump and his fascist regime.

The Trump regime previously tried to indict Lemon for his coverage of the church protest, but that attempt was rejected by a federal magistrate judge. Undeterred in their mission to muzzle the media, Trump and his flunky, Pam Bondi, have now taken another swing at Lemon that is likely to result in another embarrassing dismissal.

Unfortunately, the goal of the Trump regime may still have been achieved to some extent. Because what they are really interested in is sowing fear and intimidating journalists. They don’t take their own machinations seriously. That can be affirmed by the tweet that Trump’s White House posted today that made Lemon’s arrest into an asinine joke, saying “When life gives you lemons.” Which just goes to show how petty and disrespectful they are.
