Tea Party Values: Obama Should Be Executed As An Enemy Combatant

The right-wing outrage machine is a sensitive instrument that requires little more than a sideways glance to set off a fierce rumbling. For instance, a tweet that noted that conservatives would hate a Cheerios commercial with a biracial family, that they already said they hated, produced a fury of immense proportions. But where is their outrage when this happens:

In a town hall meeting in the district of Rep. Jim Bridenstine (OK-Tea Party), one of his God fearing, traditional values loving constituents rose to express her patriotic desire to send President Obama to the morgue:

Crazy Lady: “Obama, he’s not president, as far as I’m concerned, he should be executed as an enemy combatant. […and congress is…] doing nothing and that legally allows this moron to make decisions. He has no authority. None!”

Obviously this woman has an inability to grasp the concept of democracy. But far more disturbing is the response of her neighbors (who laughed) and Rep. Bridenstine. Rather than admonish her for advocating birtherism and treasonous violence, Bridenstine validated her comments with examples of why he agreed with her:

Bridenstine: “Everybody knows the lawlessness of this president. He picks and chooses which laws he’s going to enforce or not enforce. He does it by decree. When he can’t create a law, or when he can’t create a law through Congress, then he uses the bureaucracies of the executive branch to create rules and regulations through executive order. And, ultimately, when he can’t even get that done, then he uses foreign bodies. He uses the United Nations to try to change the laws in the United States.”

Nothing in his response repudiated the woman’s presidential death wish. To the contrary, Bridenstine elaborated on it with charges that are the substance of the most inane conspiracy theories that swirl through Fringelandia. The right is fond of castigating this president for the use of executive orders, even though he has used them less often than any president in over a hundred years. Just today, over at Fox News, their Fox Nation website featured an article about Obama’s “Executive Order Tyranny.” [Read Fox Nation vs. Reality for more than 50 examples of documented dishonesty]

But Bridenstine can’t let facts get in the way his Tea Party agenda. At least not while he is still standing in front of his wild-eyed constituents. After the meeting, and presumably some criticism, Bridenstine released this statement on his web page:

“A public figure cannot control what people say in open meetings. I obviously did not condone and I do not approve of grossly inappropriate language. It is outrageous that irresponsible parties would attribute another person’s reckless remarks to me.”

It’s true that a public figure cannot control what people say in open meetings. But he can respond in a manner that indicates his approval or disapproval. Bridenstine, contrary to his assertion that he did not condone the “grossly inappropriate language” (that he doesn’t specify), actually did condone it by not repudiating it, and worse, by embellishing it with his own pseudo-facts.

This sort of thing is commonplace among Tea Party politicians and pundits. They demonize the President, and all Americans who hold progressive views, as traitors and commies and villains who salivate at the thought of destroying America. Then they turn around and complain if a liberal correctly points out bad behavior by a Tea Party disciple. But they cannot escape their repugnant views when they are captured on video expressing them. And sadly, this is just one more example of their vulgar hostility and seething hatred.

  1. Interesting. And if anyone had done this to Mr. Obama’s unelected predecessor, the Lord Emperor Cheney, the Tea Party would have considered it treason. They do it themselves (against the Communist Fascist Nazi Muslim, Catholic, Kenyan native from Australia), it’s perfectly acceptable.

And if anything happens now to these people, the government is impeding free speech.

    • I was watching some news show one night when Bush was president and he was giving one of his speeches and they hauled two women out just for wearing t-shirts against him. Obama has put up with more things then any president in my 59 years. I think part of it because he is a gentlemen and the other part is that if he pulled what Bush and Cheney did they, the insane republicans would probably kill him.

  2. Fox News and the right-wing media machine spent eight years demonizing anyone who didn’t agree with the policies of Cheney and Incurious George. We were “with the terrorists,” “unAmerican,” “treasonous,” we “wanted American to fail,” and on and on. How many thousands of innocent people were killed in two wars because Fox News and company’s irresponsible cheerleading of the war and demononization and belittling of dissenters? By way of its lying and warmongering it is very likely that Fox helped Bush get an undeserved second term, thereby ensuring that the wars would drag on at least four more years.

  3. Kali and CS, you should know that everything which conservatives espoused during W(orst President Ever) tenure the exact opposite is fervently intoned when a Democrat is President.

    • Always was, always will be. But there was a time when the opposing side didn’t call us traitors and demand our arrest when we said anything contrary to their position.

      • There is a well-established fascist streak that runs through conservatism. The party of “freedom” and “liberty” would only be too happy to establish English as the official language, impose Christianity-based morality, ban flag-burning and abortion rights, and criminalize homosexuality. Basically, conservatives are all for the freedom and liberty to be just like them. It’s when you veer off their script that you start getting into trouble.

It must be terrible for them, still living in the Reagan era when the rest of the country has moved on.

        • Funny, I could say something similar about progressivism – like there is a well established communist streak that runs through it – kind of what Mark likes to say doesn’t exist – but clearly does. I guess that is the level of trust we have in this country today – we’re all evil in some way when viewed from the opposing side.

          • Sorry Steve, but you seem to have no friggin clue what communism is or even what socialism is, so you should better only talk on topics you are really know anything ´bout …..

Take a look at North Korea, that´s communism, that´s a tyranny.., someone trying to give people healthcare and foodstamps to the poor and minimum wage to the working class to compensate the immense growth of the wealthiest is just empathetic and somewhat christian behavior if you into religion – but for sure no communism tyranny as often said….

            • If you don’t like what you see in the mirror – make a change. Clearly it bothers you to have one held up to your face. Progressivism may not be the exact match to communism, but it’s a very small step from one to the other comrade.

          • Communism and Socialism in America saved the country and the economy the last time Republicans ran it into the ground. But, nowadays without any fetters and with no opposition Conservative Economic Values rule and that is why we see the 1% recovering their lost assets while the Stock Market jumps and the 99% of Americans still struggling.

            • So your solution is to take away everything from anyone you think should pay – is that it? I’m going to say it again, but I expect it won’t make a difference as you’re not smart enough to understand – the republican party is no longer a conservative party, just because you say it doesn’t make it so. The 1% have more today because of government and it’s interference. The government created the federal reserve, who is the driving force behind the great depression and our current depression, the interest we pay to have our currency – not the free market. It is also behind the run up in the stock market. Do you read anything other than left wing propaganda?

  4. You found one moron who wants to execute President Obama, and so you think that validates you burping onto the keyboard, “This is commonplace with Tea Party politicians and pundits.” That is a lie. And you know it’s a lie. It would be like me pointing to the death wish comments of Mike Malloy and Randi Rhodes and saying that liberals want George W. Bush to be assassinated. Once again, you have embarrassed yourself.

    • “It would be like me pointing to the death wish comments of Mike Malloy and Randi Rhodes and saying that liberals want George W. Bush to be assassinated.”

Well, that will be the FoxPods’ argument — ignoring, of course, that Rush Dimbulb, Ann Coulter, and others have said far worse.

And once again, you do nothing but prove Mark’s argument. Good job, sir.

    • And don’t forget that great patriot, Ted Nugent, who said in public that he was ready to assassinate Obama given means and opportunity.

    • I’m pretty sure you have said that. More than once, too.

  5. I personally look forward to mr obamas third term. i think he should be allowed to run.

    • He is. His name is Hillary Rodham Clinton.
      Clinton/Warren2016

    • No. It is currently law that he cannot run. And he does not have the authority to change that law. Even if he did or even if Congress were to change it, it would not be applicable to him.

  6. Jesus could return to North American and Fox News would call him a faker and a taker. “He can’t be Jesus, he isn’t white and he doesn’t speak English!”

  7. the American Taliban heard from yet again….F&%*$ YOU!!

    • “American Taliban”…a phrase coined by Markos Moulitsas, one of the most hate-filled bloggers in America. Lefty hypocrisy at its worst.

  8. I noticed the Congressman nodding his head up-and-down while she spoke. Not side-to-side, which one would expect if he disagreed with her.
Instead of correcting her by saying “Everything you just said is un-true and crosses the line into crazy-land. Getting your news from source’s like Fox News, Worldnetdaily, NewsMax, and right-wing hate radio has perhaps clouded your perception of reality. I won’t respond to that kind of crazy questioning. Does anyone here have a rational question?”
The Congressman answered her as if she had a valid point to make. She didn’t.

  9. The congressman did not have the same courage as Johm McCain did when he corrected that woman on her bullshit statements that the president was not an American citizen, he was an Islamist and so on down that line of thought and baloney.

  10. This wasn’t at a town hall meeting, I believe. It took place at what’s called a meetup of a group called “Tulsa 912.” They seem to be devoted to Glenn Beck, the TEA Party–and boy, do they love their guns! Jim Bridenstine cultivates the interest of groups like this, and they are his loyal fans. If this had been at a public town hall meeting in Tulsa, there might have been some opponents in attendance, and this would have gotten very interesting.

  11. Don’t you know by now how our great American Freedom Of Speech works? Mildly criticizing a Republican president=Treason Threatening the lives of Democratic politicians=Patriotism YEW ESS AYY!YEW ESS AYY!
