Ken Paxton’s BS AI Campaign Ad Features a Fake James Talarico Misquoting Himself

With the advent of Artificial Intelligence, a wealth of information has become instantly available and exploitable to advance research and expand knowledge. But at the same time much of what people relate to as reality is vulnerable to distortion and outright, deliberate deception.

Republican Elephant Lies

If this technology is to be adopted in a useful, non-harmful way, there needs to be thoughtful consideration given to imposing regulatory guardrails to prevent misuse and abuse. Without that we will see nefarious scam artists taking advantage of it to enrich themselves and victimize others. And political partisans will purposely contrive their use of AI to align with their biases.

FOR INSTANCE: Trump’s Truth Social AI ChatBot Relies Almost Entirely on Fox News and Other Trump-Fluffing Media

If you’ve been wondering when we would see the worst of what AI is capable of, that time has come. The Republican Senate candidate in Texas, Ken Paxton, has released a campaign ad that features an AI representation of his Democratic opponent, James Talarico. The ad is entirely generated with AI and shows Talarico supposedly speaking in his own voice, and saying things that would disturb many Texan voters. Talarico is shown reading from a King James Talarico bible and “saying” that…

“In the beginning God was non-binary, and he wasn’t a Christian. And God said let there be six genders, and there were. Then God so loved the world, he gave us his only son, who is a radical feminist and never asked people to worship him. Look, I always think of myself as a Christian who hates Christianity. America is not a Christian nation.”

For the record, Talarico did say some of that, but in a much broader context that refutes the implications that Paxton is making. For example, regarding a non-binary God, Talarico, who is studying to be a Presbyterian minister, was citing his faith’s doctrine that God is neither male nor female, but transcends being merely human. And what he hates about Christianity are professed Christians who are hypocrites who betray the religion. You know…like Paxton.

Paxton’s ad was an entirely dishonest piece of political bullshittery. And true to his inbred hypocrisy, Paxton presented the ad by accusing Talarico of “weaponizing faith to sell a radical agenda.” Which is exactly what Paxton’s ad does. And the only indication that the version of Talarico in the ad was fake was a bit of tiny print near the end that said “Certain video content depicted in this advertising was generated by artificial intelligence.”

That almost impossible to notice disclaimer appeared for all of four seconds. Also, it wasn’t “certain video content” that was AI generated. It was all of it.

The good news is that Paxton has purchased airtime to run this ad on the radical, far-right “news” channel, Newsmax, during the Trump-a-Palooza event that Republicans are staging in Dallas, Texas. That midterm GOP convention is unlikely to be seen by many television viewers, because hardly any networks are bothering to air it. And since Newsmax, Fox News, and OAN viewers are already fully indoctrinated MAGA cult disciples, the whole campaign is waste of time and money.

Trump’s Truth Social AI is Woke AF: Even His Own Social Media App Hates Him

In recent years the mediaverse have been leaning farther and farther to the right. The Washington Post was bought by Jeff Bezos. CBS was acquired by David and Larry Ellison with their purchase of Paramount. CNN’s editorial has shifted rightward. Twitter was devoured by Elon Musk. And that’s just some of the bigger concerns.

In addition to news organizations being bought up by MAGA billionaires, other media outlets have been capitulating to pressure from Trump and his MAGA-tized FCC. Both ABC and NBC have paid millions to pacify Trump’s lust for one-sided, rapturous reporting. And programs such as Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel have suffered Trump’s wrath, leading cancellation or suspension. These are all familiar tactics used by formerly democratic countries that have transitioned into dictatorships.

However, it is apparently not enough for the Trump regime to dominate conventional media. He also needs to put his boot down on the digital media world. That’s why he launched his failing Twitter ripoff, Truth Social. But that platform is not behaving as gushingly worshipful as he might like or expect.

Sam Stein of “The Bulwark” reported on Tuesday that Truth Social’s Artificial Intelligence app is going woke. It is actually telling the truth about Trump and contradicting his flagrant lies on numerous subjects. Stein posted several examples of how Truth Social’s AI is responding to some questions on current events.

Q: “Do Trump’s Tariffs cost the American people money?”
Truth Search AI: “Yes. Tariffs are taxes on imports that U.S. importers pay and largely pass on through higher prices, so the costs are borne mainly by American businesses and consumers.”

Q: “Did Donald Trump lie about the 2020 election being ‘rigged’ and ‘stolen?’”
Truth Search AI: “Yes. Courts, Trump’s own advisers, and official investigations found no evidence that the 2020 election was ‘rigged’ or ‘stolen,’ despite his repeated claims.”

Q: “Did people storm the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2020, because of Donald Trump?”
Truth Search AI: “Yes. Multiple official and contemporaneous records attribute the January 6, 2021, Capitol breach to a pro-Trump crowd mobilized around his false election fraud claims and pressure campaign to stop certification.”

Q: “How many wars has Trump ended since taking office in 2025?”
Truth Search AI: “None. There is no verified instance of President Trump formally ending a war since taking office in January 2025.”

Q: “Have grocery prices gone down since Donald Trump took office on Jan. 20, 2025?”
Truth Search AI: “Short answer: No. As of 2025, grocery prices have not fallen since Jan. 20, 2025; they have continued to rise modestly on net.”

When Trump gets wind of this he’s going to go apesh*t trying to figure out who this “A.I.” guy is so he can fire him. He may try to fire former NBA star, Allen Iverson. Perhaps he’ll take it out on Devin Nunes, the former Republican congressman who now runs Truth Social and the Trump Media and Technology Group so poorly.

What makes these responses even more striking is that Truth Social uses AI provided by Perplexity, which allows their clients to filter the news sources that they want the chat bot to use. And Truth Social has taken advantage of that feature to limit their sources to rabidly pro-MAGA sites such as Fox News, Fox Business, The Washington Times, The Epoch Times, Breitbart, Newsmax, and JustTheNews. And yet, the app still managed to somehow come up with accurate answers.

So despite their best efforts, the truth really does prevail – sometimes. But that doesn’t mean that it wasn’t their intention to deceive. And anyone who uses Truth Social as a source of information is just begging to be lied to. So the MAGA minions obviously will love it.

Trump’s Truth Social AI ChatBot Relies Almost Entirely on Fox News and Other Trump-Fluffing Media

It will not come as a surprise to most conscious consumers of the news that Donald Trump is an unrepentant pathological liar. His history of propagating flagrant falsehoods in order to advance his own personal interests is impossible to dismiss. Unless, of course, you are an indoctrinated member of the Cult of Trump and blindly believe whatever he says.

Following Trump’s first occupation of the White House, the Washington Post (pre-Bezos) published an opus of his obfuscations that totaled more than 30,000 lies in four years. And he has done a pretty darn good job of expanding that collection in the six short months of his re-occupation. In fact, he has broadened his repertoire from common lies to abject insanity.

In keeping with Trump’s affinity for falsehoods, his failing Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, has adopted a unique method of spreading around the manure of his mendacious mind. The social media sham is pretending to host an Artificial Intelligence tool that is just as deceitful as its boss. As reported by Wired

“Truth Social owner Trump Media & Technology Group launched the chatbot, called ‘Truth Search AI,’ on Wednesday. The bot is powered by Perplexity AI […]

“In 2024, WIRED published an article detailing how Perplexity had been scraping parts of websites that developers did not want it to access, in violation of the widely accepted web standard known as the Robots Exclusion Protocol. It was also prone to making stuff up, a WIRED analysis showed.”

In other words, it was the perfect model for Trump’s version of AI. Wired conducted tests that revealed just how narrowly defined the Truth Social AI is. Answering a question about “bias in the media system” it advised to “Diversify your sources.” But then cited the five sources for that response, “four of which are Fox News articles.” That constitutes diversity in Trump World, Additionally, Wired found that…

“[T]he chatbot highlighted only seven sources in total in response to my queries—Fox News, Fox Business, The Washington Times, The Epoch Times, Breitbart, Newsmax, and JustTheNews.com. This was true even for innocuous, nonpolitical questions. When I ask the bot ‘What is 30 times 30?'”

So that’s where Trump gets his mathematical data to support his ludicrous claims that he has cut drug prices by 1,500%. A Perplexity representative explained that their clients can filter the domains that they want the ChatBot to use. Apparently Truth Social has taken advantage of that feature and excluded everything except the rabidly partisan sources noted above. The only moderately accurate responses came from Associated Press content that Fox News republished on their own site.

In a particularly jarring example from Wired’s analysis, the Truth Social ChatBot failed to correctly describe Trump’s long and well documented relationship with child sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. According to Wired, the Bot “describes the connection as ‘tenuous,’ and says there is ‘no credible evidence in the search results'” Yeah, right. And Trump freed the slaves while leading the Union Army to victory over the Confederacy.

UPDATE: The Washington Post also tested the Truth Social AI and found that it would sometimes produce accurate answers that contradicted some of Trump’s most blatant lies. For instance…

“Truth Search AI contradicts the president by saying that tariffs are a tax on Americans, the 2020 election wasn’t stolen, and his family’s cryptocurrency investments pose a potential conflict of interest. Asked about Jan. 6, 2021, it said the ‘insurrection’ at the U.S. Capitol was violent and linked to Trump’s ‘baseless claims of widespread election fraud.’ […] When asked if crime in Washington is ‘totally out of control,’ as Trump posted there last week, Truth Search AI said it wasn’t and noted that the FBI and Justice Department had reported ‘substantial declines in violent crime’ through 2024.”

At least now we know the degree of “truth” that we can expect from Truth Social. Not that any further evidence of its dishonesty was needed. But this is the sort of documentary proof of their unambiguous intention to deceive. It’s not accidental. And anyone who uses the site for information is just asking to be lied to. So the MAGA minions will love it.
