Was Trump’s Ambush of Zelenskyy Preplanned, Including Stacking the Press Pool with Kremlin Hacks?

The first month of Donald Trump’s reoccupation of the White House has been the sort of colossal calamity that many people predicted and warned about. But even with the expectation that he would preside over an unprecedented betrayal of American values, Trump manages to exceed even the worst forecasts by the most pessimistic observers.

Donald Trump Angry

To prove his prowess at screwing up the affairs of state, Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday, ostensibly to finalize an agreement to provide continued military assistance to Ukraine, in exchange for a ransom of Ukrainian minerals to satisfy Trump’s transactional greed. The meeting, however, did not go as planned. Or did it?

It did not take long for Trump to transform the diplomatic discussion into a verbal venting wherein Trump, lashed out with uncontrolled vitriol at Zelenskyy. Trump even veered off on a “Russia, Russia, Russia” rant, whining about his impeachment and prior conflicts with Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton. Both Trump and his vice-president unleashed ugly attacks that had little to nothing to do with the purpose of the meeting. [The full video of the exchange is here, if you have the stomach for it]

Trump engaged in ego-driven blather, complaining that “You gotta be more thankful. Because, lemme tell you, you don’t have the cards.” He is typically focused on forcing people to pay undeserved homage to him. Vance joined in with a rather telling admission, saying that “I think it’s disrespectful for you to come into the oval office and try to litigate this in front of the American media.”

That’s right. According to Vance, Zelenskyy is somehow at fault for Trump blowing up at him in front of the media that Trump invited. A suspicious cynic might surmise that Trump planned this Oval Office putsch in order to derail the $500 billion mineral deal that Trump might have recently learned was not as advantageous for Trump, and his client Russia, as he thought. As NBC News reported…

“According to a 2023 study by Forbes Ukraine, the country’s rare earth and other critical minerals could be worth as much as $14.8 trillion.” […and that…] “There are no current rare earth projects underway in Ukraine and experts say it will take years to get projects off the ground, possibly up to a decade.”

So Trump needed a a reason to ditch the deal. Preferably with witnesses. Which makes this a good time to point out the specific representatives of the press that Trump invited to this meeting. As media watchers know, the Trump regime has recently been making changes to the way they interact with the press. They have outright banned some outlets from covering the president, and have ended the century-long practice of having the independent White House Correspondents Association assign journalists to cover Trump and Company.

Consequently, longstanding, credible journalists from the Associated Press and Reuters were not allowed to cover the Zelenskyy meeting. However, extremist right-wing outlets were on the White House’s approved list. But that isn’t all. Russia’s own state news agency, TASS, somehow got into the room. At least until someone noticed…

Are we supposed to believe that the correspondent from TASS was just in the neighborhood and secretly slipped in behind the reporter from Newsmax? This meeting was not in the White House Press Briefing Room. It was the Oval Office. Can just anyone get in there without being credentialed or noticed? Or did Trump arrange for the Kremlin’s flack to snag a pass, and then deny any involvement when it became known? Will anyone else in the press ask that question?

Among the reporters who were approved was Brian Glenn of of the Trump-fluffing MAGA webnet, Real America’s Voice. He may be better known as Marjorie Taylor Greene’s boyfriend. He managed to get a question in about why Zelenskyy wasn’t wearing a suit. Funny… Glenn never asked Elon Musk why he attends Oval Office meetings in a t-shirt and baseball cap.

Trump’s Solicitor General Pick is Too Big a Fool or Coward to Say Whether He’s a Fool or Coward

The Cabinet that Donald Trump has assembled for his reoccupation of the White House is one that is populated by people who are profoundly incompetent crackpots, and whose primary qualifications for their jobs were that they were unflinchingly loyal to Trump and willing to abandon democracy and the Constitution on his behalf.

That’s how we ended up with Trump’s Defense Secretary (Pete Hegseth), who has zero experience at the Pentagon; his Health Secretary (RFK Jr), who doesn’t believe in vaccines; his National Security chief (Tulsi Gabbard), who has never worked in Intelligence; and his FBI director (Kash Patel), who has no experience in federal law enforcement. What Trump has plenty of is staffers that he recruited from his Ministry of Propaganda, Fox News.

On Wednesday, another of Trump’s nominees appeared before Congress for confirmation. John Sauer, Trump’s former personal criminal attorney, was questioned by the Senate Judiciary Committee for confirmation as Solicitor General, the person who represents the United States before the Supreme Court. During the hearing Sauer was asked a particularly probing question by Sen. Adam Schiff…

“The department moved to dismiss a corruption case against the mayor of New York. The acting Southern District of New York U.S. attorney refused to undertake an action that she believed was deeply unethical. So then it fell on her number two, Hagan Scotten, to do the dirty deed of dismissing this case. This is what he said:

“Any Assistant U.S. attorney would know our laws and traditions do not allow using the prosecutorial power to influence other citizens, much less elected officials in this way. If no lawyer within earshot of the president is willing to give him that advice, then I expect you will eventually find someone who is enough of a fool or enough of a coward to file your motion, but it was never going to be me.”

“My question to you, Mr. Sauer, would that be you? If it fell to you to dismiss that case. Would you be the coward or fool willing to dismiss that case on behalf of the president?”

Sauer declined to answer Schiff’s question, proving that he is, indeed, a fool and/or a coward. Although, Sauer does have at least some experience with the Supreme Court. He represented Trump in his immunity case that ended up with a ruling that put an end to the longstanding principle that, in America, no one is above the law. His arguments included some chilling notions. For instance, on whether the president can…

  • Order the assassination of a political opponent: “It would depend on the hypothetical, but we can see that could well be an official act.”
  • Order the military to stage a coup: “If one adopted the test we advanced, that might well be an official act.”
  • Assist in creating a fraudulent slate of electoral candidates: “Absolutely.”
  • Sell nuclear secrets to a foreign adversary: “If it’s structured as an official act.”

So the official position of Sauer – and therefore Trump – is that Trump has a right to assassinate his opponents, be they political, judges, journalists, or other citizens; to stage violent coups against the U.S. government; to undermine democracy by manufacturing slates of fake electors; and to sell nuclear secrets and other classified materials to Russia or any other unfriendly entity.

Sauer believes that Trump should be able to do all of that and more without any consequences, legally or otherwise. It’s a position for which there is no justification in the Constitution, or in morality. But it does support Trump’s craving to be an unchallenged dictator and president-for-life. Which is why
Trump nominated him in the first place. And Sauer is the fifth nominee that is a former Trump lawyer, along with Pam Bondi, Todd Blanche, Harmeet Dhillon, and Alina Habba. We are witnessing the construction of a machine intended to advance Trump’s tyrannical aspirations.

Which makes it all the more imperative for Democrats and other patriots to monkey wrench his treasonous machinery. And they better move quickly or it will be too late. Hitler managed to transform Germany’s democracy into his fascist regime in a little more than a month after seizing power.

Trump Declares Himself King of the White House Press Corps, Will Now Decide Who Can Question Him

For over a century, the White House Correspondents Association (WHCA) has been responsible for setting the standards for reporters who cover the president. Their commitment to independence and professional journalism has ensured that the coverage of the White House and its occupants would be both tough and fair.

From its inception, the mission of the WHCA has been to “share the belief, held by our country’s Founders and enshrined in the First Amendment, that an independent news media is vital to the health of the republic.” It is, in fact, the only way to ensure that the interests of the people are being served. Unfortunately, Donald Trump doesn’t agree. And he has dispatched his Propaganda Secretary, Karoline Leavitt, to see to the dismantling of the White House press corps.

As evidence of this betrayal of American principles and the Constitution, Leavitt, made an announcement on Wednesday that further erodes any pretense by the Trump administration to value the free press. She said that…

“As you all know, a group of D.C.-based journalists, the White House Correspondents Association, has long dictated which journalists get to ask questions of the President of the United States in these intimate spaces, Not anymore. I am proud to announce that we are giving the power back to the people who read your papers, who watch your television shows, and who listen to your radio stations. Moving forward, the White House press pool, will be determined by the White House Press Team.”

First of all, Leavitt is engaging in the sort of disinformation that is the hallmark of the Trump regime. The WHCA does not “dictate which journalists get to ask questions of the President.” They evaluate the credentials of White House correspondents, and approve those who meet the high standards that warrant access to the halls of power. It is a merit based system that the White House is permitted to participate in.

More to the point, Leavitt’s decree that the WHCA will no longer perform the function that they have been fulfilling admirably for decades is a spine-chilling imitation of how the media is oppressed under the thumb of Vladimir Putin’s Politburo. She isn’t “giving the power back to the people.” She’s giving it to the wannabe dictator who regularly maligns the press as “the enemy of the people.”

This change means that Trump and his flunkies will decide who gets to ask him questions. And their recent decrees in that regard have been guided by their flagrant biases and vengefulness. It could not be more obvious that they intend to censor all those who are not adoringly worshipful of Trump. They have already replaced longstanding media outlets like NBC News, the New York Times, and NPR, with One America News Network, the New York Post, and Breitbart News. These are not exactly icons of journalistic integrity.

The WHCA responded to this authoritarian decree in a statement saying that…

“This move tears at the independence of a free press in the United States. It suggests the government will choose the journalists who cover the president. In a free country, leaders must not be able to choose their own press corps.” – Eugene Daniels, White House Correspondents’ Association president.

Trump himself weighed in on the issue saying that…

“We’re gonna be now calling those shots. As you know, we won that lawsuit right there, see the Gulf of America, which is a beautiful name. Most people agree.

“AP has been terrible. I think they’re radical left. I think they’re third rate reporters. I know the specific young lady that works on the account is terrible. she’s a radical left lunatic, as far as I’m concerned.”

So Herr Trump is bragging that he will be “calling the shots” from now on. And to reinforce his tyrannical tendencies, he insults the White House correspondent for the Associated Press in his familiar infantile fashion.

Elaborating on his malicious attack, Trump referred to his banning of the AP because they refused to bow down to his order to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico in their international editions, where he has no authority to change geographical names. He did not win any lawsuit on the matter. It is scheduled to be heard next month by a judge who appears to be leaning toward the view that Trump is in violation of the Constitution.

While Trump may be able to forbid honest journalists from asking him question in his Washington and Palm Beach bunkers, he cannot stop them from asking questions in their own reporting. However, he may find that the conspicuous absence of his lie-riddled answers will only make his autocracy-driven cowardice more obvious, and eventually, more injurious to his already rotten reputation.

Well, except for all the times that he promised (aka lied) to eliminate the debt, and preserve Social Security, and end every foreign war, and offer a better healthcare plan, and bring companies back to America, and rebuild the nation’s infrastructure, and, ultimately, to make America great.

But other than that, Trump has indeed been forthright about his aspirations for authoritarian rule, his affinity for foreign dictators, his blueprint to make himself and his wealthy pals richer, his determination to foul the environment, opposition to reproductive choice, his determination to suppress the free press that he despises, and his preference for golf, television, and the celebrity life to the hard work of governing.

Trump’s White House staff adoringly lives up to the working example that he sets for dishonesty and shallowness in his administration. And no one better exemplifies his model of slothery than his White House Counsel, and former parking lot lawyer, Alina Habba. Despite her titular role as a legal aide, Habba spends most of her time as a MAGA spokesmodel on Fox News, where she was Tuesday morning saying this…

“This is what we’re about. We’re running this county like President Trump runs the Trump Organization. Like Elon Musk running X. That’s what we’re doing. And if you want your budget balanced, if you want to not have a deficit, who better to do so than a businessman who understands how to make money, how to spend money, and how to get out of debt. And that’s what we’re gonna do.”

HOLY SHIH TZU! Not that. Anything but that. Habba is promising that Trump will run the country the way he and Musk run their businesses. Unfortunately, it’s well known that Trump has been an absolutely dreadful businessman. He bankrupted four casinos. He headed up a long list of consumer products failures, including steaks, air travel, vodka, magazines, board games, and more. Even his real estate ventures are flops, with many just being licensing deals for his name, which has been removed from several of them to avoid the taint of his toxic association.

It is impossible to talk about Trump’s alleged business without noting the monumental failure of his Trump Media & Technology Group (DJT). Its share price has declined 60% from its high in the past year. It declined 40% just since his inauguration a month ago. And the cryptocurrency coin he launched a couple of days before his inauguration has cratered 80%. Virtually everyone who has invested in a Trump enterprise has lost bigly. Except, of course, for Trump.

As for Musk, he paid $44 billion for Twitter a little more than two years ago. Now, as a private company, it is valued at about $12.3 billion, a loss of 72%. Even his flagship Tesla has lost a bundle, dropping from $480 per share in mid December, to about $300.00, a decline of 37%. And his phony Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has proven to be drag on the economy with thousands of job losses, and even cuts to revenue generating agencies like the IRS.

What’s more, Trump’s pre-election pledges to improve the nation’s economy have all proven to be more of his trademark bluster and bullpucky. Rather than eliminating inflation, increasing manufacturing, and lowering prices for everything from eggs to gasoline, things have been going in the opposite direction. Consumer confidence is plummeting. Consumers are expecting a recession. And retail sales are falling.

So what Trump and Habba are actually promising now is more of the same disastrous mismanagement that has hobbled their personal businesses. Consequently, comments like those by Habba on Fox News sound more like threats than promises.

MSNBC Dramatically Alters its Schedule, While Trump Falters His Pathetically Infantile Rebuttal

Last week MSNBC announced that was making some changes in their schedule. Among them was the cancelation of Joy Reid’s “The Reidout.” That news was met with disapproval and disappointment from longtime fans of Reid and loyal viewers of the network.

Donald Trump, Woman, Fear

This week MSNBC elaborated on their schedule changes. And the news has both pluses and minuses. Which in itself is problematic, There is no time for minuses. These are times that demand a staunch commitment to progressive media and the voices that will resist the all too apparent march toward totalitarianism by Donald Trump and his StormTrumpers. We don’t need a press corps that mirrors the one that Trump favors in Moscow.

The news from MSNBC reveals more of what the lineup will look like in the coming weeks. The most notable changes are the previously announced departure of Joy Reid, and moving Jen Psaki to weekday primetime Tuesday-Friday. Rachel Maddow will continue on Mondays after the first 100 days of the Trump Regime.

Additionally, the current cast of “The Weekend” Alicia Menendez, Michael Steele, and Symone Sanders-Townsend), will move to weekdays at 7:00pm ET. The old Weekend show will get three new anchors, including Jonathan Capehart. A second version of “The Weekend” will air later in the day with Ayman Mohyeldin as one of the co-hosts. His solo show will end. As will “José Díaz-Balart Reports” and “The Katie Phang Show.” Both of them will remain with the network.

Among others remaining, Ali Velshi will expand his weekend show to three hours. Ana Cabrera, Chris Jansing, and Katy Tur will all add an hour to their weekday programs.

It is impossible not to notice that all of the canceled programs were those with people of color as hosts (Reid, Capehart, Mohyeldin, Phang). However, it would be premature to conclude from that that prejudice was the primary reason for the cuts. Some of the new programming also features people of color (Capehart, Mohyeldin, Sanders-Townsend, Steele), albeit in shared roles that are not fully disclosed yet.

Meanwhile, Trump was busy ignoring any presidential duties that he hasn’t yet delegated to his co-president, Elon Musk. He was up late Sunday night whining petulantly about MSNBC on his failing Twitter ripoff, Truth Social. He raged in his hallmark infantile fashion about “Lowlife Chairman of ‘Concast,’ Brian Roberts,” “mentally obnoxious racist, Joy Reid,” “seriously failing Rachel Maddow,” and “LOW IQ Con Man, Al Sharpton.” Then he closed his rant saying that…

“This whole corrupt operation is nothing more than an illegal arm of the Democrat Party. They should be forced to pay vast sums of money for the damage they’ve done to our Country. Fake News is an UNPARDONABLE SIN!”

If Trump were truly concerned about biased media in the service of political parties, why hasn’t he said anything about his Ministry of Propaganda – and primary pool for recruiting his administration’s staff – Fox News? However, this isn’t the first time that wannabe dictator Trump has decreed that MSNBC, and other credible media, is somehow engaged in illegal activities and shouldn’t be allowed to exist. For instance…

Trump’s tantrums over the free press that he regularly maligns as “the enemy of the people,” is not surprising. It is, however, disgusting and deeply un-American. But unfortunately, it is a noxious excretion that we cannot avoid for the time being.

What we should be able to avoid is betrayals by the media whose mandate is to truthfully inform the people. And at present, outlets such as MSNBC, CNN, the New York Times, the Washington Post, and others are letting us, and the nation – and the world – down. It is up to us to make sure they know where they are failing.

Russian TV Host: What Trump Says is ‘So Correct…In Total Alignment With the Way We See Things’

Anyone who has been paying attention for the past several years is well aware that Donald Trump has an alarming affection for Russian president, Vladimir Putin, that is at best a slobbering infatuation, and at worst downright treasonous. He clearly idolizes Putin and envies his totalitarian control over Russia.

Trump’s festering fondness for Putin has not gone unnoticed by Russian officials, operatives, and media. They have frequently expressed their agreement with Trump’s positions on foreign affairs, particularly those regarding Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and Trump’s advocacy of Russian demands for concessions of territory by Ukraine and barring their membership in NATO. Russian media has even effusively praised Trump’s choices for his Cabinet.

Another example of Trump’s obeisance to Putin, and Russia’s appreciation for it, came recently in the remarks of a Russian television host, Vladimir Solovlov, commenting about Trump’s public support for Russian interests in contradiction to long held American policies. Soloslov said that…

“The phrases he’s saying are so deep and so correct, they are in total alignment with the way we see things.”

Donald Trump himself, who is a big coward who will never say a bad word about Putin.

No wonder the Russians are so thrilled with Trump. They couldn’t have a more devoted spokesman. Nor one with greater ability to advance Russian interests and sabotage those of the U.S. Yet somehow the MAGA cultists who support him remain loyal despite the obvious betrayal of America by Trump and his Klan.

And the Republicans in Congress are even worse. They know better, but are so scared and squishy that they set aside any sense of patriotism in favor of Dear Leader’s dictates. At some point this will come crashing down around them and their treason will be forever etched into history. In the meantime, the rest of us need to stay vigilant and not let their campaign to discourage us succeed.

UPDATE: The U.S. voted against a United Nations resolution condemning Russia for invading Ukraine. The U.S. joined Russia and North Korea in that vote. Which tells you whose side Trump is really on.

Now, in record time, Trump has rocketed to the bottom the pile of unpopularity. As of February 2025, the only presidential poll numbers worse than Trump’s during what is supposed to be the “honeymoon” period, are Trump’s numbers from 2017.

Undeterred by reality, Trump continues to insist that he is universally beloved. He employs that delusion to gaslight his grossly gullible cult disciples. And he has no shame whatsoever in boasting about the sort of adoration that he imagines is enjoyed by his idols, Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping, and Kim Jong Un.

To that end, on Saturday morning Trump posted a couple of comments on his failing Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, that reek of a rancid combination of acute derangement and malignant narcissism, shouting in all caps…

“HIGHEST POLL NUMBERS EVER. I GUESS WE ARE ON THE RIGHT TRACK!!! THANK YOU.”

Followed by…

“MSNBC, COMMONLY KNOWN AS MSDNC, IS A THREAT TO OUR DEMOCRACY. SUCH LYING AND MISREPRESENTATION. BAD PEOPLE AT THE TOP!”

It appears that Trump was ticked off by MSNBC host Rachel Maddow’s reporting that his approval rating has slipped into negative territory by every recent survey. What’s more, virtually every policy that he has advocated is also underwater, including those that he has clung to desperately, such as immigration and the economy. So naturally, he had to lash out at MSNBC and post his own fantasy numbers that, in his psychotic state, were not only positive, but the highest EVER!

Crybaby Trump is very upset that MSNBC and other news outlets are reporting his abysmal approval ratings.

Trump’s perverse perceptions of his popularity are mirrored in his hostility toward the media. He simply cannot abide the truth being told about him. So much so that he has embarked on an unprecedented campaign to suppress the press freedoms that are enshrined in the Constitution’s First Amendment. This has not gone unnoticed by media advocates. Reporters Without Borders put together a concise summation of Trump’s assault on free speech titled: “One month of Trump: Press freedom under siege.” It began…

“[Donald Trump], his administration, and his political allies have conducted a rapid series of attacks on press freedom that amount to a monumental assault on freedom of information. [and] has systematically undermined the news media’s First Amendment rights.

“However, in Donald Trump’s war on the press, the American people are the ultimate victim.” [And] “Trump wants to make this about him versus the press. In reality, this fight is about Donald Trump versus every American’s First Amendment rights.”

Meanwhile, there is some potentially good news from MSNBC. The network is considering expanding Jen Psaki’s role. Perhaps they are considering giving her Andrea Mitchell’s old time slot. The network is also mulling an expansion of “The Weekend” to weekdays as well. They would be wise to take some of that time away from Morning Joe Scarborough, and/or Katy Tur.

Trump, of course, would hate any of those schedule changes. It would just mean more accurate coverage of his efforts to undermine democracy and elevate his authoritarian aspirations. And you know he’ll be watching. He can’t help himself. He thrives on the antagonism that it stirs in his shriveled heart-like organ. If he isn’t careful, he’s gonna give himself an aneurism or two.

The dysfunctional relationship between Trump and the press is all too painfully observable in the behavior of his press secretary, Karoline Leavitt. She views her job as one where she acts as the official White House Trump-Fluffer, rather than as a servant of the people tasked with informing the public about critical presidential activities.

To that end, Leavitt has spent most of her time during the first month of Trump’s occupation of the White House visiting with Trump’s Ministry of Propaganda, Fox News. Media Matters reports that she has already made twelve appearances (nearly every other day) on the MAGA-friendly network, along with her White House colleagues who similarly camp out on Fox.

“Top Trump administration officials have appeared on Fox News 124 times since President Donald Trump was sworn in. At least one key nominated or appointed official appeared nearly every day of the past month.”

Leavitt’s tally for Fox News hits comes in third, after Trump’s “border czar,” Thomas Homan (20 visits), and his Counselor to the president, Alina Habba (15 visits). Furthermore, Leavitt’s twelve appearances on Fox is nine more than she has made to the White House Press Briefing Room, where in the past month she has only held three of what used to be called “daily” press briefings.

This is pretty solid evidence that the Trump regime regards Fox News as its certified media dispensary for approved propaganda. Even more so than the White House itself. And it has the advantage of being a safe space where they will encounter only Fox fluffers, and none of those other pesky journalists who ask real and challenging questions with appropriate follow ups. How much more Trumpy can a network get than by actually giving the president’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, her own primetime show?

As an example of the sort of discourse that the Trump team hopes to avoid, watch this exchange between Leavitt and Peter Alexander of NBC News Friday morning, when Alexander attempted to get her to comment on allegations by Trump of fraud in the Social Security system…

ALEXANDER: Fraud, of course, is a crime. So have you turned over evidence of fraud to the Justice Department, and when should we expect to see those indictments?
LEAVITT: It’s a clever question…There has been extensive fraud. If you look at Social Security. In fact, according to an IG report, from the Social Security Administration, there was $71 billion worth of fraud in one single fiscal year that we know about.
ALEXANDER: To be clear that $71 billion was from 2015 to 2022. So it wasn’t in just one year.

ALEXANDER: Fraud is a crime. Have you turned over evidence of fraud to the Justice Department, and when should we expect to see those indictments?LEAVITT: It's a clever question

That retort by Alexander was as far as he would get with Leavitt. She repeatedly refused to accept reality, and eventually cut him off with a personal insult saying “Why is the media so against cutting waste, fraud, and abuse? [and] We will not be deterred by people like you.” For the record, Alexander was right. The alleged “fraud” did occur between 2015 and 2022, mostly during Trump’s term. And they knew that, as revealed in their own tweet (below). As previously reported…

To begin with, the improper payments were discovered by the Inspector General during Biden’s term. There was no fraud associated with them. Most were overpayments to eligible recipients that were likely recovered. The total amount was only 0.84% of all Social Security payments. Which is evidence that the system is pretty darn efficient.

When the White House press secretary is on Fox News more than in the White House Press Briefing Room, there is a serious problem that reeks of an administration that is determined to deceive, distort, and disseminate propaganda. At this point there is no rational reason why any news organization should tolerate the Trump regime’s lies and disrespect for the free speech that is protected by the First Amendment to the Constitution. It is long past time to cease their capitulation to the aspiring monarch of Mar-a-Lago.

Fox News Stumps Trump’s National Security Adviser About Who is Responsible for the War in Ukraine

Late last year, in the midst of the presidential campaign, Donald Trump made one of his notoriously preposterous proclamations that no rational person would ever take seriously. So naturally, his MAGA cult followers, and virtually every Republican politician, bought it hook, line, and stinker.

This particular proclamation concerned the war in Ukraine and Trump’s assertion that he alone held the key to resolving the conflict and ending the war. What’s more, he insisted that he could do it within 24 hours of his inauguration with a single phone call. And it wouldn’t even impede his other critical work on behalf of the American people.

Needless to say, Trump’s deadline is long past and the war in Ukraine is raging on with no end in sight. Trump did dispatch his Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, and National Security Adviser, Mike Waltz, to Saudi Arabia to initiate negotiations. However, he didn’t bother to invite Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. So it’s ridiculous to presume that any progress toward peace could result.

What makes progress even less likely is that Trump and his team refuse to recognize the most basic realities concerning the matter. An example of their obtuse perspective was seen in the remarks by Waltz to Fox News Thursday morning. Waltz was asked by Fox’s White House correspondent Peter Doocy…

Doocy: Who does Trump think is more responsible for the Russian invasion of Ukraine? Putin or Zelenskyy?
Waltz: Well look, his goal Peter is to bring this war to an end. Period. And there has been ongoing fighting on both sides. It is World War I-style trench warfare. His frustration with President Zelensky is, that you’ve heard, is multifold.

One, there needs to be a deep appreciation for what the American people, what the American taxpayer, what President Trump did in his first term, and what we’ve done since. So some of the rhetoric coming out of Kiev, frankly, and insults to President Trump were unacceptable, number one. Number two, our own Secretary of Treasury personally made the trip to offer the Ukrainians what is – can only be described as a historic opportunity.

DOOCY: Who does Trump think is more responsible for Ukraine? Putin or Zelenskyy?WALTZ: Well look, his goal Peter is to bring this war to an end. Period.

Doocy threw a proverbial softball to Waltz, asking “who is more responsible for the Russian invasion of Ukraine?’ The answer (the Russian invasion) was right there in the question. And yet, Waltz swung and missed by a mile. He never even got close to agreeing that Putin was the invader who a attacked a peaceful neighbor. If this is how badly he whiffs on a question from Fox News, imagine what would happen if he ever allowed a real journalist to interview him.

What Waltz did say was that we all “need” to “appreciate” Trump for what he did. Because, like all cults, Dear Leader must be praised at all times. Can anyone explain what Trump did for Ukraine that deserves appreciation? Waltz also ragged on Zelenskyy for allegedly insulting Trump. Then he followed that up by reiterating Trump’s demand for Ukraine to payoff Trump as if he were a mob boss operating a protection racket. Which, truth be told, he is.

In reality, it is Trump who has engaged in infantile insults based on flagrant lies. He posted a rambling, incoherent rant on his failing Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, wherein he blamed Zelenskyy for the war that Russia started, dismissed him as a “modestly successful comedian,” called him a dictator, accused him wanting “to keep the gravy train open,” and lied that he “is very low in Ukrainian Polls.” But through it all, Trump never says a single word criticizing his BFF, Vladimir Putin, or suggesting that Russia make any concessions for peace.

Trump posts a tediously long comment about Ukraine that blames Zelenskyy, America, and President Biden, for the war that Russia started by invading their peaceful neighbor.Yet Trump never says a single word criticizing the monstrous Putin who Trump idolizes & seeks to emulate.

One thing that Trump makes perfectly clear is that he is working for Putin. And every Republican who fails to call out that treason is complicit in it. And that goes for the media as well.

Trump Bashes the Media as ‘The Enemy’ While Being Fluffed on Fox News By Sean Hannity

It remains an enduring mystery why so many of the flock who follow Donald Trump regard him as courageous. It could not be more evident that he is a whimpering wimp who relies on volume and verbal bullying to manufacture an image of fortitude that 100% fictional. Just like the character he played on “The Apprentice,” Trump is as fake as his combover and spray tan.

Trump’s cowardice is also confirmed by his fear of interacting with any media that hasn’t been pre-approved as MAGA-friendly, and whose practitioners aren’t avowed Trump cult disciples. Not only does Trump avoid outside associations with non-MAGA media, he has also populated his administration with personnel that he recruited from Fox News.

Which explains why Trump just did yet another interview with the Senior Trump-Fluffer on Fox News, Sean Hannity. On Tuesday night Hannity aired the interview that Trump did in tandem with his co-president, Elon Musk, to whom he seems to have delegated most of his presidential duties. Musk also appears to have replaced Trump’s other partners, JD Vance and Melania.

The interview was just as cringeworthy an episode as you might imagine. The three of them were grossly enthralled with each other to the point of being unable to control their drooling. In the first minute of the interview Musk gushed that “I love the president.” But their mutual admiration was matched by their animosity toward the free press. And that was never more obvious than when Trump went off on all of the non-Fox media that he despises so much…

Trump: The media is so bad. When I watch MSNBC, which I don’t watch much, but you have to watch the enemy on occasion, the level of arrogance and cheating, they’re just horrible people. They lie. These are horrible people
Hannity: They tell lies.
Musk: They tell conspiracy theories.
Trump: And they start up with the Constitution. They couldn’t care less about the Constitution. CNN, likewise. I mean, I watch them asking questions with, you know, the hatred. I said, why are you asking the question with such anger? You’re asking me a normal question, but you see the bias. The bias is so incredible. Those two are bad. PBS is bad. AP is bad. CBS is terrible.

Trump once again maligns the media as “the enemy,” because he simply cannot abide anyone that tells the truth about him. He is so intolerant of honest journalism that he recently banned the Associated Press from the Oval Office because they refused to adopt his preposterous renaming of the Gulf of Mexico. Trump later doubled-down on that unconstitutional violation of the First Amendment by declaring that journalists will henceforth be prohibited unless they agree with Trump.

The rest of the interview was an unwatchable hodgepodge of incoherent rambling and flagrant falsehoods. Trump regurgitated many of the fantastical claims that are a routine part of his repertoire. But more significant were the subjects that were not discussed, including some of the issues that Trump made integral parts of his campaign. Little or no mention was made of Ukraine, Gaza, Social Security, immigration, healthcare, taxes, and his threatened annexations of Greenland, Mexico, and Canada.

Even his beloved DOGE was mostly left out of this interview. With Musk sitting right next to him they never talked about the agencies that were closed, or the people that were fired. They never addressed the fact that prosecutors and Justice Department officials were terminated; that nuclear stockpiles were left unsupervised; that public health researchers who monitor the safety of food and medicine, and who guard against potential pandemics were let go; that investigators who protect American consumers from fraud were sacked.

They clearly couldn’t care less about the welfare of the American people. And they couldn’t care less about the Constitution or democratic government. All they care about is accumulating more power and enriching themselves and their wealthy pals. Which is why they are so fixated on hating the media. They need to prevent any possibility of the truth getting out to the public.

Hopefully the media will rise to the occasion and stand up for themselves and the First Amendment. If they are smart they will refuse to cover Trump and his regime until they show the proper respect for the Constitution. Former CNN anchor, Jim Acosta, made a good case for this recently…

“Let the American people see this image: an aspiring autocrat in the Oval Office, surrounded only by his propaganda outlets and right-wing hacks. That’s not a good look for him.”
