SRSLY? Kari Lake Says Trump Has ‘the Greatest Sense of Humor of Any Modern Day President…Ever’

Perhaps the most important function of a totalitarian regime is its propaganda aimed at casting the leader as a giant among men with superior intellect, infallible instincts, and unshakeable courage. Which explains why Donald Trump’s propagandists work so hard to make people believe that he is a near deity whose power cannot be challenged.

Donald Trump, Mocking Disability

The tricky part is that they also need Trump to come off as an everyman to whom all of his subjects can relate. And with that in mind his PR team needs to convince the masses that he has a genial personality, some measure of empathy, and a sense of humor. But given Trump’s well known personality disorders, that’s a task with an extraordinarily high degree of difficulty.

Now That Trump has orchestrated a shutdown of the U.S. government, the blame game has begun in earnest to politically tarnish whichever party is determined to be responsible for it. That shouldn’t be hard considering that Republicans are in control of both houses of Congress and the presidency, and that they have openly celebrated the shutdown as a long hoped for opportunity to cause great damage to the governmental institutions they despise.

Republicans have no rational argument for continuing the shutdown. And they are taking most of the heat from the public for having caused it. Consequently, they have resorted to a campaign of ridiculing Democrats as a substitute for engaging in a cogent debate.

The campaign of mockery includes a noxious and racist fake video, posted by Trump, of House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries in a sombrero, and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer spouting obscenities. And that was supposed to be funny. However, when the public reaction to it was overwhelming disgust, Republicans complained that Democrats just don’t have any sense of humor.

Among those making that charge was Trump’s head of the U.S. Agency for Global Media, Kari Lake. She appeared on the right-wing network, Newsmax, with Chris Salcedo to elaborate…

Salcedo: The left is in full collapse. They can’t argue issues anymore. So they argue, “Stop making fun of my stupid policies.” Unreal, isn’t it?
Lake: And they don’t have a sense of humor. That’s funny, no matter how you slice it it’s funny. The memes that have come out of that, and seeing the sombrero everywhere, it just made me laugh.

And if we can’t laugh, my goodness, how do we get through difficult times like we’re seeing right now? I think it’s hilarious. Good for president Trump for having the greatest sense of humor of any modern day president we’ve ever seen, and keeping us in stitches over everything that he’s been putting out on social media.

WHUT? Lake thinks that Trump has “the greatest sense of humor of any modern day president we’ve ever seen”? Now THAT is really funny. Trump couldn’t even show up once to the annual White House Correspondents Dinners, where comedians – and the president – get to crack jokes about politics, and sometimes themselves. His idea of a joke is to ridicule the poor, minorities, the disabled, women, and always those on his personal enemies list. He’s just plain cruel.

Lake also thinks that Democrats need to get a sense of humor. Really? Trump and his MAGA minions got Stephen Colbert canceled (but not until next May). They got Jimmy Kimmel thrown off the air (for a few days). Trump celebrated those victories for censorship by declaring that Jimmy Fallon and Seth Myers would be next.

Republicans all cheered this muzzling of comedians that was orchestrated by Trump and his fascist regime. And yet, the MAGA GOP is incensed that Democrats don’t find Trump’s flagrant racism funny.

However, there are some significant differences between Trump’s pathetic, allegedly humorous put downs of Jeffries and Schumer, and the Democrats’ response to it. First of all, no Democrat has censored Trump or any other Republican for their lame attempts at comedy. And secondly, the Democrats’ humor is based on the politics and policies of Trump and the GOP, while Trump’s humor is just infantile invectives and bigotry aimed at society’s most vulnerable.

The fact that Lake and other Trumpists actually think that they can sell the preposterous notion that Trump is America’s funniest president is downright hilarious. But there is nothing funny about how Trump & Company malign Democrats and disadvantaged Americans. And laugh so heartily while doing it.
