MAGA GOP Reps Deny that Donald ‘I Am Your Retribution’ Trump Has an ‘Enemies List’ (He Does)

It has been less than a week since since Donald Trump eked out a miniscule 2% victory over Vice-President Kamala Harris. But it didn’t take long for the Trump apologists in Congress to begin crafting their reality-defying accounts of his nefarious intentions to launch a reign of terror targeting Democrats, journalists, and anyone else who failed to kowtow to him and kiss his…let’s say ring.

The deliberate distortions of what Trump has actually said and done over the course of his campaign amount to a bald-faced effort to gaslight the gullible rubes who were naïve enough to vote for him.

It apparently wasn’t sufficient to tell flagrant lies exalting him while viciously maligning his opponent. They must now try to convince voters that what they clearly saw and heard were all figments of their feeble imaginations. This resulted in the election of a convicted felon, serial sexual abuser, and aspiring dictator, with a resume replete with ill repute.

So naturally Trump’s supplicants in Congress are endeavoring to whitewash his wayward past by blatantly contradicting what everyone witnessed in recent history. For example, on Sunday morning Rep. Jim Jordan insisted that Trump will not go after his political opponents. “‘He didn’t do it in his first term,’ Jordan told CNN ‘State of the Union’ host Dana Bash on Sunday.”

Of course Jordan is adamant that Trump wouldn’t go after his political opponents. Because that’s Jordan’s job. As chair of the House Judiciary Committee, Jordan has conducted numerous, meritless probes of Democrats and other Trump critics, including President Biden and his family. Here are a few others on Trump’s enemies list that CNN confronted Jordan with…

What’s more, Jordan is lying about Trump not going after political opponents in his first term. He did so repeatedly. But he wasn’t able to get anywhere because he had no hint of evidence of any wrongdoing. Even his own staff couldn’t justify the sham persecutions. As for Trump, his enemies list was well documented – mostly in his own words – and quite long. Politico published a collection of some of the targets of Trump’s wrath, including “critics and members of the media to be prosecuted, locked up, deported and even executed…”

Jordan was not alone in his fictionalization of Trump’s yearning for revenge. Byron Donalds (FL-MAGA) also tried to disseminate the lie that Trump was not out for vengeance, telling Fox News that “For the American people who have been listening to these lies from the Democratic left, I will tell you…There’s no enemies list.”

What’s next? Trump and his MAGA cult will try to claim that he never questioned the outcome of the 2020 election; or that he never incited a violent insurrection; or that he never downplayed the deadly effects of COVID; or that he never praised authoritarian tyrants like Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un (and Hitler); or that he never sought mass deportations of migrants; or that he never promised to impose inflationary tariffs on all imported goods; or that he never said women must be punished for seeking abortions.

This sort of truth mangling is what Americans can look forward to for the next four years. And all because some voters were more worried about paying more for eggs, than about destroying democracy. And, of course, because the media was too afraid and/or complicit to report accurately about the existential risks the nation faced by returning Trump to the White House.

Unfortunately, we will all share in the regrets – and suffering – that was caused by a small minority of ill-informed, selfish, and gullible cultists who embraced Trump’s transparent dishonesty and egomaniacal ambitions.

GOP Leaders in Congress are OUTRAGED at Kamala Harris (But Not Trump) for Talking About Fascism

The unprecedented cowardice of Republicans in Congress has been among the most disappointing developments of the Era of Donald Trump. Despite the fact that many of them righteously condemned Trump during and immediately after the January 6th insurrection that he incited, most have relapsed into the catatonic state of worship that is mandated by cult leaders.

The blindly obsequious members of America’s Legislative branch of government include its GOP leaders Mike Johnson, Speaker of the House, and Mitch McConnel, Republican minority leader in the Senate. They are the standard bearers of the Republican Party’s far-right MAGA wing who have managed to achieve new records of incompetence at their respective jobs.

Now these extraordinarily inept so-called “leaders” have sent out a furious press release expressing their seething displeasure at recent remarks by Vice-President Kamala Harris. She was asked by a reporter whether she agreed with some of Trump’s former White House staffers that he is a fascist, and she replied in the affirmative. That triggered the missive by Johnson and McConnell (whom we shall henceforth refer to collectively as “JoMac”) calling on Harris to “End The Dangerous Rhetoric.” It said in part that…

“[Harris] has only fanned the flames beneath a boiling cauldron of political animus. Her most recent and most reckless invocations of the darkest evil of the 20th century seem to dare it to boil over. […]

“Vice President Harris may want the American people to entrust her with the sacred duty of executive authority. But first, she must abandon the base and irresponsible rhetoric that endangers both American lives and institutions. […]

“And we call on the Vice President to take these threats seriously, stop escalating the threat environment.”

So JoMac are accusing Harris, in flamboyantly colorful terms, of having “fanned the flames beneath a boiling cauldron of political animus.” Never mind that it was actually a group of close Trump associates who were minding the political crock pot. They include Trump’s White House Chief of Staff, Gen. John Kelly, his Defense Secretary, Gen. James Mattis, and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Mark Milley. All of these respected military officers who were appointed by Trump now agree that he is a fascist. And they oughta know.

What’s more, the position that Trump is a dangerous, aspiring dictator is shared by Trump’s former National Security Advisor, John Bolton, another one of his Defense Secretaries, Mark Esper, and more than 700 national security officials who have endorsed Kamala Harris for president.

JoMac went on to demand that Harris, who was merely agreeing with Trump’s people, “abandon the base and irresponsible rhetoric” and “stop escalating the threat environment.” However, JoMac never bothers to make the same request of their Dear Leader Trump. They must not have heard him say that “Joe Biden and the fascists that control him are a threat to democracy.” Or that “Every time the Radical Left Democrats, Marxists, Communists, and Fascists indict me, I consider it a GREAT BADGE OF HONOR.” Or that “We are going to WIN BIG and take our Country back from the Radical Left Losers, Fascists, and Communists.”

JoMac neglected to mention the countless times Trump has referred to Harris as a “communist, Marxist, fascist.” CNN documented a few of those attacks that took place recently. Such as Trump saying that “She’s a Marxist, communist, fascist, socialist” at an Arizona rally. Or that “This is a radical-left, Marxist, communist, fascist,” which Trump said at a news conference. Or that “We have a fascist person running who’s incompetent,” which Trump told his glassy-eyed rally-goers at a Virginia campaign stop.

JoMac also must have missed it when Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, said that Trump might be “America’s Hitler.” Which is a sentiment that millions of Americans share. According to a new ABC News/Ipsos poll, “Nearly half of Americans say they view former President Trump as a fascist.” That includes “46 percent of independents and 12 percent of Republicans.”

All in all, there is an astonishingly strong consensus, across a broad range of Americans, that Trump is a threat to democracy, with authoritarian aspirations, who must never be permitted to hold any office of power again. But JoMac are incapable of seeing this reality. They are as indoctrinated into the Trump cult as the rubes who attend his rallies wearing desecrated flag fashions.

Weaponizing Congress? GOP Hack Comer Launches Phony Probes Into Both Kamala Harris and Tim Walz

If anyone is wondering why the American people have a such a poor opinion of Congress, it might have something to do with how little it has done on their behalf under the current – albeit slim – GOP majority. The Republican “leaders” of the House of Representatives have spent the past two years utterly ignoring their responsibilities to advancing the interests of the citizens they are supposed to be serving. In fact, they have succeeded only at achieving a new record for passing fewer bills than any Congress in modern times. Congratulations.

There are many Republican members who can shar the blame for this deliberate neglect. At the top of the list is the GOP Speaker, MAGA Mike Johnson, who has exhibited no management aptitude whatsoever. He only got the job when no else could muster enough votes following the ouster of the previous GOP Speaker, Kevin McCarthy.

And right below Johnson in the congressional Dereliction Derby is the chair of the House Oversight Committee, James Comer. He has made it his personal mission to devote all of his time to presiding over ludicrous investigations of Democrats, particularly President Biden and his family. And all to no avail. After wasting months of hearings, and millions of taxpayer dollars, Comer hasn’t found a shred of evidence of any wrongdoing. He’s been so inept that even Fox News took him to task…

Now that President Biden has passed the torch to Vice-President Kamala Harris, Comer & Co. have abandoned the pitiful failures that they have been obsessed with for so long. But that doesn’t mean that he is taking a rest. Nope. Comer has already initiated investigations of both Harris and her running mate, Gov. Tim Walz. Last week he posted this announcement…

This is Comer’s contribution to the brazen lie that Harris was a “Border Czar” (she never was), and that there must be some impropriety that he can manufacture with regard to that lie.

In addition to Comer’s grossly partisan attack on Harris, this week he added Gov. Walz to his hit list.

It’s ironic that Republicans are trying to falsely associate Walz with some sort of collusion with China, when it is Donald Trump and his family who have been doing business there for decades, including while he was occupying the White House. The truth about Walz is that he had a purely educational role in China, as reported by Newsweek…

“Following his graduation, the Minnesota governor and former Congressman spent approximately one year teaching high school in China as part of Harvard University’s WorldTeach program.”

These blatant attempts to weaponize Congress by using it to attack their political foes is a reprehensible perversion of their sworn duties. But it is consistent with their past misbehavior. In the past couple of years they introduced more preposterous articles of impeachment (for Biden, DHS Sec. Alejandro Mayorkas, FBI Director Chris Wray, U.S. Attorney Matthew Graves, and Attorney General Merrick Garland) than any session of Congress ever.

And now they are turning their aim toward Harris and Walz in the final months of this election year. The good news is that Comer and his cohorts are too feeble-minded to succeed at anything other than humiliating themselves. They inherited that mental defect from their Dear Leader Trump. And in the end all of them will wind up achieving the only outcome that they are capable of: FAILURE!

Justice Sotomayor’s Blistering Dissent to the Supreme Court’s Gift of Immunity to King Trump

After an interminable, deliberate, and unwarranted delay, the MAGA majority on the Supreme Court has finally ruled that convicted felon Donald Trump has some measure of immunity for so-called “official” conduct as president. It was a 6-3 ruling on predictably ideological lines.

What this means in practice is that the president is now unbound by the rule of law and may commit crimes at will with little to no consequences. In other words, what was once the office of the presidency is now the throne of a king. The court did not so much decide on immunity as impunity. And they did so with an election coming up that could return a recidivist criminal (Trump) to office.

The majority opinion delivered to Trump almost everything that he hoped for. And he thanked them in a series of posts on his floundering social media scam, Truth Social.

However, Justice Sonia Sotomayor wrote a dissent that not only shredded the brazenly biased opinion written by Chief Justice John Roberts, it also sounded the alarm for the imminent danger that the nation faces in the event of the election of a president who takes advantage of the new totalitarian license provided by a court whose own members (Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito) are themselves legally and/or ethically tainted. Sotomayor wrote (with emphasis added) that…

“Today’s decision to grant former Presidents criminal immunity reshapes the institution of the Presidency. It makes a mockery of the principle, foundational to our Constitution and system of Government, that no man is above the law. Relying on little more than its own misguided wisdom about the need for ‘bold and unhesitating action’ by the President, the Court gives former President Trump all the immunity he asked for and more.” […]

“The President of the United States is the most powerful person in the country, and possibly the world. When he uses his official powers in any way, under the majority’s reasoning, he now will be insulated from criminal prosecution. Orders the Navy’s Seal Team 6 to assassinate a political rival? Immune. Organizes a military coup to hold onto power? Immune. Takes a bribe in exchange for a pardon? Immune. Immune, immune, immune.

“Let the President violate the law, let him exploit the trappings of his office for personal gain, let him use his official power for evil ends. Because if he knew that he may one day face liability for breaking the law, he might not be as bold and fearless as we would like him to be. That is the majority’s message today.

“Even if these nightmare scenarios never play out, and I pray they never do, the damage has been done. The relationship between the President and the people he serves has shifted irrevocably. In every use of official power, the President is now a king above the law.”

So what now? First and foremost, Trump must be soundly defeated in November. If reelected he has promised to exact “retribution” on his political foes. That means anyone who is less than unflinchingly loyal to him among members of Congress, judges and prosecutors, state officials, business leaders, private citizens, and journalists and media organizations.

Secondly, Congress must act to undo the atrocity that the Supreme Court has imposed. They must pass laws that explicitly hold the president accountable for crimes that he commits. They must reform the Supreme Court by adding new members, placing term limits on them, and enacting a code of ethics with real consequences for violators.

Finally, they should proceed to impeach Trump for the third time. That’s right. There is nothing that prohibits an impeachment for a former president. And if successful in the House, it can proceed to the Senate, giving them another opportunity to convict Trump and forbid him from holding any federal office. That would at least provide some protection from this particular criminal from becoming president again and committing more crimes under the Court’s now rules.

Fox News Admits that the GOP is Demanding Tapes of Biden So They Can Mock Him for Stuttering

Among the tediously repeated lines that Trump delivers in his traveling cult rallies is a new one wherein he declares that the 2024 presidential election is “the most important election in the history of the United States.” And for once, he isn’t wrong. But he also isn’t right for the reasons that he thinks.

On November 5, 2024, the American people will choose between President Joe Biden, a dedicated, patriotic, statesman, and family man, or Donald Trump, a twice impeached, serial adulterer, who has been adjudicated as a rapist and fraudster, and been convicted of 34 felonies. Inexplicably, there is still a small but noisy contingent of Trump cultists who remain irredeemably devoted to their Dear Leader despite all the evidence of his moral decrepitude. The good news is that most voters won’t have a particularly difficult time making their decision.

In the meantime, the Trump-fluffers at Fox News are hard at work spreading lies, right-wing propaganda, and malicious insults that would embarrass an eight year old. Which is what they’ve always done, so that isn’t exactly news. A recent example of this comes from Kayleigh McEnany, a former Trump press secretary who is now doing essentially the same job, but with a bigger paycheck from Fox.

In a segment of Fox’s Sean Hannity show, McEnany addressed a wholly contrived controversy over Attorney General Merrick Garland, who has declined to turn over some audio tapes of Biden to the rabidly biased Republicans in the House of Representatives. Garland advised the GOP that such requests violate precedent when there is an objection on the basis of executive privilege. But in a fit of petulant rage, the GOP voted to hold Garland in contempt of Congress anyway.

To the surprise no one with a functioning cerebellum, Garland decided not to prosecute himself. Not out of personal interest, but because there is no crime to prosecute. This exacerbated the already unhinged anger of the GOP and Fox News. McEnany lashed out saying that…

“This is of great public interest. As congressmen have pointed out, the transcripts were edited to keep out the ‘ums,’ the ‘ahs,’ ‘the stutters. The American people deserve to hear this President in long form.”

So McEnany is admitting that the only purpose of releasing the audio tapes would be to embarrass the President who has had a lifelong problem with stuttering. It’s a sickening request that seeks only to mock an otherwise irrelevant speech impediment. What she is asking is akin to demanding the videotapes of the President’s colonoscopy because the American people “deserve” to see the President’s long intestine.

The tapes do not provide any substantive information that would be useful for any legislative purpose. Congress has the full transcripts of the tapes, and such transcripts always remove extraneous pauses and fillers. But McEnany and her confederates at Fox News don’t have any coherent criticisms to make of Biden, so they are desperate for petty things like this that they can exploit to attack him.

McEnany is not alone on this. The Republican Speaker of the House, MAGA Mike Johnson, is also weighing in on the matter. He has announced that Congress is going to sue the Justice Department in an attempt to get the tapes. Johnson is, once again, proving that he believes the role of Congress is to serve as Trump’s private law firm. Rather than pass any bills that actually benefit the nation or its citizens, Johnson focuses entirely on partisan political attacks on behalf of Trump. That’s why this session of Congress has been the least productive in decades.

What’s more, the goal of disparaging Biden’s mental acuity by Fox News and the MAGA GOP, is one that fails miserably in contrast to Trump’s own cognitive problems. Trump provides frequent evidence of his Acute Psychobabble Disorder (APB). It ranges from rants about succumbing to electrocution or sharks, to ridiculously inflating the size of the crowds at his cult rallies, to claiming to have the solution to every world problem that he can only reveal if he’s elected.

However, the pièce de résistance is Trump’s alleged proof that he is mentally superior to most mortals because he supposedly “aced” a cognitive test given to him by a disgraced former doctor, now Texas Rep. Ronny Jackson, wherein he was asked to identify an elephant and count backwards. However, in Trump’s latest attempt to brag about this “accomplishment,” the “stable genius” couldn’t even remember the doctor’s name…

So it is with the backdrop of Trump’s inability to retain information that he refers to frequently, along with his Bizarro World yammering that no one can decipher, that Fox News and the GOP want to get their hands on some tapes of Biden stammering during a five hour long interview, in order to prove that he’s unfit for office. That is how pitifully desperate they are to find anything to dirty up Biden with.

While this might work on the already indoctrinated Trump disciples, it is going to fall flat for everyone else. And the best forum within which to prove that is the upcoming Biden/Trump debate. That is, if Trump doesn’t chicken out.

Marjorie Taylor Greene is OUTRAGED at Being Called ‘Fringe’: ‘It’s Not Me, It’s Rachel Maddow!’

Last week the unofficial chair of the House MAGA Fringe Caucus, Marjorie Taylor Greene, proposed a bill to defund the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), an alliance that has protected much of the world from aggression by Russia for 75 years. Greene’s opposition is rooted in her animosity toward Ukraine, President Biden, and democracy.

Greene is notorious for her bizarre antics in and out of Congress. She is an unflinching disciple of the Cult of Trump. She attacks her Fellow Republicans with unbridled hatred. She is leading the fight to remove MAGA Mike Johnson as Speaker. She has drafted numerous motions to impeach members of the Biden administration simply because they are Democrats. Recently she sought to deny all federal funding for the state of New York because a jury in Manhattan found Trump guilty of 34 felonies.

Any rational observer of of politics would describe Greene as a fringe operative. Although, these days her views have been embraced by most of the Trump GOP. Following the failure of her NATO defunding bill, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow noted that many Republicans voted to withhold critical funds from America’s allies in Europe.

“A fifth of the Republicans in Congress just voted that we should leave our allies all together. That we should break up the big Western alliance. That we should defund NATO. And I think nobody really paid attention to this vote because this legislation was put forward by a very fringe member of Congress. A member of Congress who is known for her publicity stunts, and therefore she is easy to ignore. But it wasn’t just her. forty-six Republicans voted for this thing.

This criticism of of the Republican betrayal of our allies struck Greene for decidedly personal reasons. She didn’t care so much about Maddow calling out the GOP for “leaving our allies.” Nope. What bothered Greene was the part where Maddow referred to her as “a very fringe member of Congress.” So Greene scampered off to Steve Bannon’s podcast to complain about Maddow…

“”Well, of course, she’s not happy. Rachel’s never accomplished anything real in her entire life. She’s only lied on television for a living. And NATO, all these European countries, they don’t pay their fair share. So why should America continue to pay for the defense of all these other countries when they are unwilling to even pay their fair share?”

REALLY? Most people would consider having graduated from Stanford, becoming a Rhodes Scholar, and getting a doctorate in Political Science from Oxford, something of an accomplishment. Plus, she’s won three Emmys, a Grammy, and written best-selling books. Greene’s resume, on the other hand, consists of little more than managing a small construction company in rural Georgia, and failing to produce anything of substance as a member of Congress. But Greene wasn’t through defending herself from the allegations of fringiness…

“It’s not fringe at all. It’s also not fringe because most Americans also agree that the United States should not be funding a war in Ukraine.”

Greene is, as usual, lying. Polls show that a majority of American actually support funding for Ukraine. But Greene, like her Republican confederates, never lets facts get in the way of a good rant. She continued saying that…

“When we’re going to talk about the question, we’re going to ask the question, who is fringe? It’s actually Rachel Maddow is the fringe person in this story. It’s not me. It’s Rachel Maddow.”

Here Greene is adopting the age-old debate strategy of “I know you are, but what am I?” However, her “rubber/glue” tactic falls short due to the fact that even 157 of her fellow Republicans voted against her bill, along with every Democrat. Although she did get 46 Republicans to join her.

That’s a pretty good affirmation that Greene and her band merry cranksters are indeed the fringe. And no matter how hard she tries to deny that reality, it remains true. Nevertheless, we can expect her to continue attacking her betters, such as Maddow, because glassy-eyed narcissists like Greene are incapable of recognizing their own failures. No matter how glaring.

Fox News is Steaming Mad at GOP Chairman Comer for Being an Incompetent Biden Persecutor

The Republican obsession with manufacturing criminal charges against President Biden has suffered for years from an absolute failure to find any crumb of a crime that they could pin on the President. Nevertheless, the GOP chairman of the House Oversight Committee, James Comer, continues in his fanatical and futile fishing expedition despite accomplishing nothing except to further embarrass himself and exasperate his Republican confederates. But undeterred by trivial considerations, like whether or not there are any facts to support his accusations, Comer persists in his malicious mission to malign Biden.

The GOP in the House has been holding their useless and partisan hearings for years now. They somehow manage to set aside the fact that they have failed utterly in their mission to find dirt on Biden. Comer has been humiliated repeatedly by Democrats on the Committee who have pointed out how dishonest and incompetent he and his GOP colleagues are. Democratic Rep. Jared Moskowitz has even challenged Comer to call for a vote to impeach Biden, if he thinks he has the goods on him. He obviously doesn’t.

Now it appears that Fox News is getting tired of the ineffectiveness of Comer and Company. After Fox’s Maria Bartiromo challenged Comer as to why he hasn’t issued criminal referrals to the Department of Justice on an array of crimes that neither she nor Republicans have any proof ever occurred, Comer replied with a typically vague assertion that his ghost indictments are coming soon. Really, they are…

Bartiromo: Are you saying that we could expect a criminal referral against Joe Biden for money laundering? Is that what you just said?
Comer: I think it’s no secret Joe Biden’s committed many crimes, and I think that you’re going to see a report very soon. That report is imminent. That’ll probably be an interim report that updates everyone on the crimes that Biden and his administration have committed throughout this investigation and through the years of the Obama/Biden administrations.

Yeah, right! If they do file a report, it will surely contain an abundance of lies that the DoJ will quickly and appropriately dismiss. You can rest assured that if Comer had evidence that “Joe Biden’s committed many crimes,” it wouldn’t be a secret. He would have produced it long ago.

Bartiromo followed up by asking why Comer doesn’t “subpoena these people.” Which, of course, he has already done. That includes the President’s son, Hunter, his brother, James, and several business associates. They all showed up and gave testimony under oath. Comer’s problem is that that testimony produced zero evidence that comes close implicating Biden, or anyone else, in any criminal act. To the contrary, his witnesses actually absolved Biden of any wrongdoing.

It appears that even Fox News is becoming impatient with Comer and other Republicans in Congress, such as Judiciary Committee chairman Jim Jordan, who haven’t been effective enough at smearing Biden. But then, they haven’t been effective at anything else either, such as passing legislation, or selecting leadership. So is anyone surprised?

Trump Verdict Triggers Marjorie Taylor Greene to Call for Banning All Federal Funds to New York

Last week America saw its first former president convicted on 34 felony counts related to his falsification of business records, and campaign and tax fraud. The unanimous guilty verdicts on all counts would have produced some measure of remorse in a normal person. But true to form, Trump erupted in the sort of denial and hostility that is the hallmark of his warped psyche.

The consequences of Trump’s historic felony convictions are going to unfold in a variety of expected and unexpected ways. Most notable will be in his increasingly unhinged behavior as his inability to cope with finally being held accountable for his crimes drives him farther into despair and desperation.

Trump, however, will not be going through this torment alone. He will have the majority of his MAGA Republicans by his side. Fully indoctrinated cult disciples such as senators Tim Scott, Marco Rubio, and JD Vance have already humiliated themselves with their slobbering sycophancy. And over in the House of Representatives, GOP Speaker Mike Johnson was eager to denigrate America’s justice system in virtually the same words as his Dear Leader.

Not one to be left out of any melodramatic circus, Marjorie Taylor Greene weighed in with her tirade in defense of the GOP’s whining nominee for president. She posted a comically caustic comment on Twitter that detailed her plan for revenge on the those she deems responsible for Trump’s tribulations.

The level of lunacy in that post seems to be almost a plea for help. Beginning with Greene’s demand of “No funding for New York!” Greene is advocating cutting off all federal funds to the entire state because she is upset with the verdict reached by a jury in Manhattan. Much of the state outside of New York City is populated by Republican voters. So this a proposal that some of her GOP colleagues in the House might not be thrilled about. Ten of the 26 seats in the state are currently held by Republicans.

Nevertheless, Greene went on to declare that “I’m calling for it!!!” But she doesn’t say exactly who she is calling. The GOP’s margin of majority in the House can be counted on one hand. And with ten New York Republicans likely to oppose it, there is no realistic possibility that her proposal would pass. And that isn’t even counting all of the other GOP members who would not support such a ridiculously vengeful idea that hurts innocent citizens.

Then Greene adds that “New York needs to drop their conviction of Pres Trump!” No, actually, it does not. And she has no jurisdiction as a member of Congress to demand it. Trump was found guilty by jury of his peers in a New York court, after a fair trial where he had competent counsel and every opportunity to defend himself. Even though he was too cowardly to testify, which may be the only smart decision he made throughout the whole trial.

Undeterred by logic, Greene shifts to asserting that “The whole thing was illegal!” What whole thing? The whole completely legal trial for indictments, that were legally issued by a grand jury comprised of citizens, and presided over under the laws of the state? Notice that she doesn’t bother to cite what’s illegal about any of that.

Finally, Greene insists again that “Republicans should not vote for a single penny to that corrupt State.” So she’s still determined to punish the 20 million people of New York state for the verdict that 12 jurors reached after examining all of the evidence. And her form of punishment is to deny the state federal funds. Maybe someone should tell her that New York gives the federal government far more money than it gets back. Perhaps the state should withhold funds from the feds. It would actually come out ahead.

Green’s animosity toward New York is not shared by the rest of the nation. In the first poll since the guilty verdicts for Trump, “49% of Independents nationwide and 15% of Republicans said Trump should end his campaign because of the conviction.” What’s more, 54% of voters approve of the decision to convict Trump, and a similar share believes that Trump committed a crime.

The only thing that Greene’s bizarre rant accomplishes is to affirm that she is a nut case who couldn’t care less about the law or the country. She is proof that Trump’s support is comprised of cult devotees who are only interested in exalting Dear Leader, at the expense of the welfare of every other American and the preservation of democracy. And her efforts will likely help lead to the defeat of more Republicans in November, including the convicted felon of Mar-a-Lago.

Fox News Blames a MAGA Meltdown in the Republican Controlled Congress on President Biden

This week the nation was treated to the spectacle of a throng of Republican members of Congress abandoning their duties in Washington to cheer in the bleachers for their Dear Leader, Donald Trump, in New York. He is there being tried for election interference, falsifying business records, and paying hush money to a porn star. And Republicans in Congress had to be there to give him emotional support. These are your tax dollars at work, America.

Upon their return to D.C., these prodigal congresspersons were called into a late night hearing of the House Oversight Committee to consider a preposterous motion to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress. His “offense” is refusing to give the Committee some audio tapes that they intended to exploit for political purposes. They would have been better off staying in New York, fawning over Trump, and trying to intimidate the court.

It didn’t take long for the hearing to devolve into the sort of chaos one would expect from irascible juveniles. The verbal melee began when Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA-MAGA) made a derogatory remark about the appearance of Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett. It escalated from there as Crocket moved to have Greene’s words stricken from the record, which caused Greene to insult her intelligence. And throughout the ruckus chairman James Comer demonstrated that he has absolutely no ability to manage the proceedings.

As embarrassing as all of that ought to have been for Comer and his GOP confederates, he got a total reprieve from Fox News, where the blame for it all somehow rested squarely on the shoulders of President Biden. Of course, Biden had nothing whatsoever to do with it. But that didn’t stop Fox’s Emily Compagno from pointing her fingers at Biden, saying…

“Why shouldn’t it be that the highest standard, the highest decorum, exists in this most sacred building, that they claim was breached on January 6th in the most horrific and atrocious of crimes. Will they represent the sacred and the sanctity that that building deserves? Honor that.”

“I see this as reflection of the complete erosion that our entire legislative body has become. You can wear what you want. You can say what you want. You can trash each other. You can drink. You can have sex on the dais. You can bring coke into the…This entire thing has become an absolute devolved zoo, heightened under this administration that promised us on the way in there would be unity. “

Compagno is clearly upset at the disrespect shown for the institution by this imbroglio. And it was particularly notable that she referenced the January 6th insurrection that was incited by Trump. Never mind that she and her colleagues at Fox News have relentlessly defended the insurrectionists that they call “hostages,” and characterized the riots as peaceful protests by patriots.

However, Compagno wasn’t through humiliating herself. She went on to assert that the blame for the bickering in Congress belonged to Biden, whose aspirations for unity were unfulfilled because Republicans are boorish crybabies who can’t behave like adults.

Not only was Biden completely unassociated with the fracas that went on in the House, the responsibility for the “complete erosion” of the body into “an absolute devolved zoo” rests entirely with the the Republican Party. They have held the majority for the past year and half and, based on their record, what took place Thursday night was completely predictable. After all, they can’t find bipartisan unity because they can’t even be unified within their own caucus.

The Republicans have been fighting among themselves non-stop. They took 15 votes to elect Speaker Kevin McCarthy. Then they ousted him nine months later. And some of them are now trying to oust the new Speaker Mike Johnson. In the meantime, they have succeeded in becoming the least productive Congress in decades.

Compagno lamented that she is “deeply disappointed” in the Congress, and that “They have not earned my respect.” But she can’t acknowledge that it is her own party that has failed so pitifully. So she tries to deflect the blame in the most awkward and irrational manner imaginable.

Which is precisely what one would expect from today’s MAGA Republicans. It is no longer a political party. It is a cult. Therefore, reality must be rewritten to conform to the cult’s perceptions and doctrine. And that bastardization of reality is the purpose of Fox News, where allegiance to Trump and “alternative facts” rule the day.

MAGA Mike Johnson Announces His Intention to Interfere with the Criminal Investigation of Trump

For most of the last month, Donald Trump has been a seen as a pathetic and lonely (and sleepy) crybaby as he attended his criminal trail in New York. During the hearings he sits with his lawyers scowling as the evidence of his crimes is revealed by one witness after another. Then he unleashes his wrath at the press in the court’s hallway with his tediously repetitious complaints of victimhood and the torture of a “freezing” courtroom.

That changed this week, however, with the sudden appearance of some of Trump’s congressional bootlickers. They have apparently decided that the duties they have been neglecting in Washington because they have no interest in the people’s business, must now be neglected in order to prop up their Dear Leader being tried on 34 felony charges.

Among the attendees is GOP House Speaker Mike Johnson, who showed up with a coterie of congressional Trump-fluffers, and wannabe VP candidates. Trump praised them as his “surrogates” who were there speaking “beautifully” on his behalf. Although he still hasn’t managed to convince his wife Melania to stand by his side. The only thing the presence of these MAGA reps accomplishes is to affirm that Trump is using the trial as a political stunt. He has done almost no other campaigning since the trial began, despite having all his weekends and evenings free.

For his part, Johnson regurgitated the rote Trump complaints that the trial is persecution, election interference, and tainted by alleged biases of the judge and prosecutors. At one point he effectively conceded that Trump is guilty…

In addition to his toadyism for Trump, Johnson also took the opportunity to announce that he intends to exploit his position in Congress to obstruct justice on Trump’s behalf. He told the gathered media that…

“I’m working with chairman [Jim] Jordan of the House Judiciary Committee, and chairman [James] Comer of the Oversight Committee, on measures to rein in the abuses of special counsel Jack Smith.”

Johnson never bothered to reveal what those alleged abuses might be. And he surely doesn’t care that the cases Smith is prosecuting are indictments that were handed down by citizens serving on grand juries. But his intention to assign these tasks to representatives Jordan and Comer couldn’t be a better scenario – for Democrats. The two of them have been uniquely incompetent in their pursuit of President Biden for imaginary crimes and baseless impeachment probes. Their own witnesses often exonerated Biden, or wound up being arrested themselves for lying to legal authorities.

More to the point, Johnson doesn’t seem to realize that he has no jurisdiction whatsoever over an independent counsel appointed by the Attorney General. The most he could do is try to pass legislation to defund the entire Justice Department, which would cripple law enforcement on other matters such as drug trafficking, civil rights, and terrorism. What’s more, his efforts to defund the police would never get through the Senate.

The only purpose that Johnson has here is to prove to Trump that he is willing to help him to avoid accountability for the crimes he has committed. If he really thought that Trump was innocent, he would let the jury determine that and acquit him. But Johnson – like Trump – knows that he’s guilty and his only hope is some sort of get-out-of-jail-free card, or the phony and unconstitutional “presidential immunity” that Trump is trying to get from the Supreme Court.

What’s abundantly clear is that Johnson, and the MAGA GOP that he leads, have abandoned entirely any pretense of working on behalf of the American people. They have only one constituent now. And that’s Donald Trump. Unfortunately for them, their one constituent may soon be a felon who is prohibited by law from voting. And a fair portion of Republican voters are likely to resent being neglected and choose not to vote themselves. And if that comes to pass, the majority of the American people would ironically owe Trump and Johnson and the Republican Congress a debt of gratitude. Strange times indeed.
