The cognitive impairment of Donald Trump continues to be evident in his ever more bizarre ravings as he sinks farther down the rabid hole of his malignant narcissism. His detachment from reality is exacerbated by the historically depressed approval ratings for him and his Republican MAGA movement.

Typical of a power mad egomaniac, Trump is lashing out at whatever target is convenient at the time. And more often than not it’s the free press. Unable to accept accountability for his own failures, he blames the media for his pitiful reputation and low standings with the public. His animosity toward the media has resulted in a virtual wartime escalation of his fear and desperation.

Never mind the fact that it is Trump’s ludicrous policies (Iran, tariffs, immigration, economic, diplomatic, etc.) and his malicious demeanor that generates the disgust of the American people. He is congenitally incapable of accepting any responsibility.

However, in his stuporous state of mind Trump is likewise incapable of any coherent assessment of his condition. And late Tuesday night he posted a seething commentary on his failed Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, that puts his derangement on display. Trump raged that…

“All of the SLEAZEBAGS, like Third Rate ‘Reporter,’ Kaitlan Collins, of Fake News CNN, a truly unhappy person, said they weren’t going to be covering me. Then why were they ranting and raving like Lunatics, in the Press Area, at the United Nations? Why was she there? She’s got a ‘TRUMP’ addiction, and so does CNN and MSDNC. They’re all sick, treasonous, and demented! The ‘good news’ is that they have a great, for them, and totally disloyal Judge.”

Setting aside Trump’s despicably infantile manner, what is spectacularly insane about this comment is that Trump is calling the press names for doing what he actually wants them to do. He is the one with an addiction to being the center of attention at all times. But here he is not just complaining that reporters are covering him, he is insulting them for doing so.

For the record, no one in the press was “ranting and raving like lunatics” at the United Nations. Well, that is no one except Trump. He specifically went after CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, demanding that she explain why she was covering him, and insisting that she shouldn’t be.

Trump doesn’t understand normal press behavior. The boycott by the media is by the five outlets (ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, and Fox) that participate in “pool” coverage at the White House and a few other locations. Trump thinks that because those outlets are refusing to cover him in those situations until he removes his ban, that they are abandoning their responsibilities elsewhere, such as at the UN.

Trump had a similar misunderstanding about media coverage during a press gaggle with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani. He whined that “They said they were going to boycott me but they never boycott me.”

Despite Trump’s bragging about the coverage he gets, the press is still boycotting the events at the White House and other locations that are covered by the pool. As result, there is less footage of him available for all of the media that relies on pool coverage. But the press will still show up to cover the UN, the Mayor of New York, and other newsworthy events, even if Trump is there.

This actually works to Trump’s disadvantage. Because the more people see of him, the more they dislike him. And that’s especially true lately as his mental state erodes and he disgorges even more preposterous nonsense. It’s a downward spiral that he has no ide idea how to get out of.
