The malignant narcissist that currently occupies the White House will also occupy a chapter or twelve in history books that chronicle American democracy and those who sought to destroy it. From the time that Donald Trump entered politics he has displayed a festering hostility toward the Constitution and the principles in it that patriots cherish.

The examples of Trump’s authoritarian aspirations are plentiful and troubling. They include his efforts to assume dictatorial control of government; his determination to ignore the roles of Congress and the courts; his waging of wars without lawful authority; his embrace of foreign tyrants and alienation of allies; and his attacks on the free press.

Among Trump’s most bizarre behaviors is his egomaniacal fixation of naming everything after himself, and other forms of self-exaltation. He’s building monuments to himself in the form of ballrooms and triumphal arches. He’s tried to attach his name to the Kennedy Center and the Institute for Peace. He’s hung gigantic banners with his scowling mug on the office buildings that house departments of Justice and Labor.

Now Trump is obsessing over a new tribute to his conceit. As reported by MS NOW, “Trump aides explore attaching president’s name to Ford’s Theatre.”

“As President Donald Trump fights to rename the Kennedy Center after himself, administration officials are circulating a list of government sites that could have his name affixed to them in some way, according to people familiar with the effort.

“One landmark that has emerged in the discussions among administration officials has raised eyebrows: Ford’s Theatre, the playhouse where Abraham Lincoln was assassinated in 1865…The prospect sparked a flurry of discussion over the past week among people responsible for the historic site.”

This shouldn’t surprise anyone who has been paying attention to Trump’s unbridled vanity and messianic swagger. MS NOW cites several sources from within Trump’s inner circle who corroborate this desire. And equally unsurprising is that Trump is calling it “fake news.”

However, he is going to extremes to deny it. In just a matter of hours he has posted three grossly paranoid comments on his dedicated propaganda platform, Truth Social, claiming that “the Fake News Media and the Dumocrats” are conspiring against him. He began by whining that…

“The story that the White House, or me, want to affix my name to Ford’s Theatre, in Washington, D.C., where Abraham Lincoln was assassinated, is a ridiculous lie. It is FAKE NEWS! Who would possibly want a name on such a tragic place? The Dumocrats suffer from serious Trump Derangement Syndrome. They are Degenerates and Losers who make up lie after lie, and this Ford’s Theatre Hoax is just another one of their never-ending, malicious falsehoods to try to discredit and demean.”

Trump is clearly upset that some truth leaked out of his inner sanctum of crazy. But his denial isn’t very well thought out. He says “Who would possibly want a name on such a tragic place?” So Trump says that he wouldn’t want his name on something that memorializes an assassinated president? That’s a peculiar complaint coming from someone who has been clamoring to add his name to the Kennedy Center that memorializes an assassinated president.

Trump continued in his next comment to say that…

“The Dumocrats make up lie after lie. The new one is that I want Ford’s Theater named after me. That’s where Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. Who would want that? I don’t! It is FAKE NEWS started by MSDNC AND CNN.”

In that comment Trump, a pathological liar, accuses Democrats of lying. But there is no evidence that Democrats had anything to do with this story. To the contrary, Trump’s own people are the sources. And he still doesn’t get how absurd it is to say he wouldn’t want his name on the Ford Theater when he is still suing to put his name on the Kennedy Center.

Trump still wasn’t finished. His third comment on this subject repeated much of what he said in the first two. But he added a little something extra…

“The Ford’s Theatre Lie is just another example of how the Fake News Media and the Dumocrats conspire together to make up false stories about ‘President Donald J. Trump.’ Shouldn’t be allowed to happen. Our Country is desperately seeking a Free and Fair Press!”

Did you catch it? Trump says that “Our Country is desperately seeking a Free and Fair Press.” But in the sentence immediately prior to it was his declaration that stories that he deems to be fake “Shouldn’t be allowed to happen.” That is neither free nor fair.

As usual, Trump never provides any proof that the articles by MS NOW contained any lies. He just rants incoherently and makes baseless charges that he expects everyone to believe. But given his reputation for blatant dishonesty, he’s not going to convince anyone of anything other than that he’s just a big baby and and blowhard.
