The love/hate relationship that Donald Trump has with the media is textbook case of malignant Narcissism. He desperately needs to be the center of attention at all times, while simultaneously demanding that all references to him be worshipful.

The result of this psychotic dichotomy is that Trump is constantly in a state of high anxiety because he simply can’t tolerate not having the unflinching adoration he craves from 24/7 press coverage. He responds to this by inventing a world wherein he is universally beloved, despite the reality in which he is floundering at record lows of public approval. In his world that is all “fake news.”

Trump’s derangement sometimes manifests in uniquely bizzarre ways. For example, on Wednesday morning Trump posted a comment on his failing Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, that directly attacked his official Ministry of Propaganda, Fox News. Apparently he woke up to something on TV that was less than sufficiently adoring, so he raged that…

“Why does FoxNews always put Chuck Schumer, Hakeem Jeffries, Jessica Tarlov, and every Democrat on, saying bad things about the Republican Party and, of course, me? I actually think they get more airtime than Pro Republicans. This is why MAGA, and REAL Patriots, will never like Fox! They repeat a completely negative narrative, on and on it goes, and then we get a quick retort. It’s truly amazing that I won all three Elections. The opposition is enormous, but the fight goes on!”

Let’s set aside the ludicrous notion that Fox News shouldn’t ever have the Democratic leaders of the House and Senate on the air. Trump is also disturbed that Fox gives airtime to Jessica Tarlov, the lone liberal on their radically partisan right-wing panel program, The Five.

More to the point is that Trump believes that there should never be any criticism of him or his MAGA GOP comrades on Fox News. Even more ridiculous, he believes that Fox actually gives more airtime to his Democratic critics than to his wingnut cult devotees. And if that isn’t crazy enough, he also thinks that because of that preposterous analysis, the ultra-conservatives who venerate him “will never like Fox!” Who does he think is watching? That is, besides him.

Trump offers as validation of his anti-Fox commentary the lie that he “won all three elections.” By that he is including the election of 2020, that he lost. But in his mind his imaginary winning streak is evidence that something is wrong with the media, because he manages to prevail even though everybody is against him. Poor paranoid baby.

What we know for sure is that Trump is not unaware of the overwhelming support he gets from Fox News. Every single program host – Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, Jesse Watters, Will Cain, Bret Baier, Greg Gutfeld, and the the “Curvy Couch” potatoes on Fox and Friends – are certified Trump-fluffers.

And yet Trump’s dementia produces the illusion that Fox News is a network where “they repeat a completely negative narrative,” and “the opposition is enormous.” With mental impairment that severe, there is really nothing left to say. Except that it is imperative that Trump be diminished in power for the remaining time that he occupies the White House.

Which is where every voter in America comes in. Since we can’t rely on Republicans in Congress to act responsibly, we must vote them all out. Early voting begins in the next week in many places. And November is just around the corner. Make a plan to vote, and take your friends and family with you.
