Trump’s intention was to mock Democratic Senate candidates James Talarico of Texas, and Jon Ossoff of Georgia. But he badly miscalculated. Peewee Herman and Alfred E. Neuman are both giants of American popular culture, and are treasured representatives of positive values, strong will, and good humor. Is there anything more American than that?

What’s more, Trump’s feeble attempt to make these associations negative fails pitifully because both Talarico and Ossoff are either beating or tied with their Republican opponents. So even if we were to concede that the comparisons are effective mockery, what does it say about the Republicans who are (or will be) losing to them? And what does it say about Trump, whose sad memes fail to make any point other than how pathetic he is? Such as this one…

REALLY? Like Trump and his perennially whiny cult are always so happy? It would be much harder to make similar comparisons to Trump, because there aren’t any lovable fictional characters that merge humor with nastiness, ignorance, and ego. Perhaps the Tasmanian Devil or a Nazi version of the Hulk.

He has swung wildly from claiming credit for ending the the crisis, to insisting that it is a Democratic hoax that never existed in the first place. In an attempt to reinforce the Trump regime’s position that affordability isn’t really a problem, Trump dispatched his Propaganda Secretary, Karoline Leavitt, to her regular post on Fox News for a friendly interview with Jesse Watters. The segment delivered some of the most callously oblivious commentaries on the subject imaginable.

Watters: Some of these kids, and I call them kids because they’re in their 20s and they’ve never had real jobs and they’re complaining things are expensive in the U.S. Yes, things are expensive when you don’t have a real job. Do you think that’s getting traction? Complaining?
Leavitt: Unfortunately, I do because this generation, my generation, I hate to say it, Gen Z and those younger than me have been raised with just silver spoons in their mouths, just getting everything handed to them. That’s not the values this country was built on. […]
Watters: Is it laziness?
Leavitt: A little bit.
Watters: Because the professor said the country’s corrupt. It’s evil. And we just need to shake them down and hand money out.
Leavitt: It’s laziness and it’s liberal indoctrination. You bring up a great point about our education system. […]
Watters: I say if they misbehave just make all these young kids join the army.
Leavitt: Send them to Cuba. Send them to Iran.

So to start off, Watters asserts that the only reason things are perceived as expensive by young people is that they don’t have “real” jobs. And Leavitt agrees, accusing them of having been born into privilege and never knowing the meaning of work. Elaborating, they both malign them as “lazy.” They also both neglect to recognize that it isn’t just young people who are plagued by the economic burdens of the Trump agenda. Americans of all ages are well aware of Trump’s disastrous effect on the U.S. economy.

Leavitt and Watters are delivering a great message from the MAGA team in an election year during which they are already projected to suffer significant losses. They are telling a critical voting bloc that if you’re troubled with how expensive things are, it’s just because you’re a lazy communist who has been indoctrinated by evil college professors. Even worse, Leavitt and Watters propose that these spoiled, youthful, complaining, ingrates be forced to join the army and be sent to Cuba or Iran. That’ll teach ’em.

Leavitt went on to promote homeschooling and Christian schools for parents who “don’t want their children being taught these communist and liberal ideas slammed down their throat.” She prefers the fascist and conservative ideas embraced by Trump and his MAGA confederates. Which is an angle that Democrats will be happy to see Republicans adopting as November approaches. As is often the case, what Republicans are doing to advance their agenda will be truly fantastic – for Democrats.

Meanwhile, Republicans are facing the almost certain loss of the majority in the House of Representatives, and a likely similar loss in the Senate. The GOP response to these dire predictions has been to double and triple down on extremist hyperbole that diverges entirely from anything that matters to voters, and from reality itself.

The whole of Trump’s MAGA Party is following his lead in trying to malign Democrats as communists. Never mind that they have no rational basis for that charge. It is just more of their explosive diarhetorica that they are dispensing out of pure desperation.

Naturally, Trump is taking the lead in this reprise of the “red scare” attacks that failed so miserably in the 1950s. To that end Trump posted a hysterical comment on his failing Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, that illustrates his devotion to dredging up tactics that didn’t work 75 years ago. His comment began by announcing that…

“Today I am declaring a National Scallops Day to celebrate an action taken by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) that will open up the Northern Edge of Georges Bank to Scallops Fishing, fulfilling the dream to our Great Fishermen who were so badly treated by the Obama and Biden Administrations, and by the Country of Canada.”

FINALLY! Someone is doing something about the horror that Democrats imposed by depriving citizens of their god-given supply of marine mollusks, and “fulfilling the dream” of American fishermen. Trump bragged that, in order to do this, he “terminated” the environmental monument status of sensitive waters on both U.S. coasts, saying that…

“I have opened up the Oceans, Rivers, Lakes, and Seas to our Fishermen, and freed them from ridiculous Environmental restrictions that allowed other countries to take advantage of the United States’ Waters under Barack Hussein Obuma, Sleepy Joe Biden, and the Dumocrats.”

Following that display of childish name-calling, Trump revealed in all caps what may become his rallying cry for the remainder of the midterm election campaign season…

“GO OUT AND VOTE REPUBLICAN IN THE MIDTERMS, BECAUSE IF THE COMMUNISTS GET IN, YOU’LL NEVER FISH AGAIN!”

HOLY SHIH TZU! Trump is accusing Democrats of plotting to prohibit all fishing forever. And to his cabal of MAGA disciples, that is a totally reasonable accusation of something they are eagerly ready to believe that Democrats will actually do.

Yet Somehow the MAGA-tists haven’t realized that it is their Dear Leader who is the aspiring communist. He is the one who is implementing communist-like control over the “means of production” by taking a role in corporate mergers, demanding multimillion dollar payments from corporations seeking government favors, forcing corporations to sell parts of the businesses to the government, and defunding public media such as PBS, NPR, and Radio Free America. He has even sued media conglomerates for billions of dollars, forcing them to either pay up or suffer his retribution.

Communist leaders like Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un are drooling with admiration and envy. But while Democrats and most other patriotic Americans are appalled, from a strictly political perspective they are pretty excited. Because the more that Trump and his GOP confederates focus on this sort of red baiting idiocy, the better chances Democrats will have of victories in November. So go for it, Donald. We’ll see you at your next impeachment hearing.

The prospects for Democrats regaining majorities in the House of Representatives and the Senate are growing and are strong enough that Trump and his confederates are becoming increasingly desperate to engage in some sort of election interference. That has already begun with the Trump regime spewing nonsense about Democrats being communists who are purposely trying to destroy America.

Another tactic in Trump’s bag of dirty tricks is his use of federal resources to buy the support of state officials and voters. The latest example of this came in a series of posts to his dedicated propaganda platform, Truth Social, wherein he announced that he is distributing nearly a billion dollars to nine states that he claims is for disaster relief. The list of states is conspicuously partisan in that they are all states that he won in 2024, including…

Georgia: $318.3 Million; Michigan: $32.1 Million; Louisiana: $8.6 Million; Wisconsin: $22.6 Million; Missouri: $27.6 Million; Idaho: $4.5 Million; Mississippi: $11 Million; Kansas: $5.5 Million; and Florida: $415.9 Million; Total = 846.1Million.

Trump didn’t say where these funds would be coming from. Under ordinary circumstances disaster relief would be provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). But Trump has had a rocky relationship with them that has gone back and forth between reluctant cooperation and outright detestation.

For instance, in January Trump announced a batch of dubious disbursements providing millions of dollars to many of the same states. He posted on Truth social that “We are working closely with FEMA.”

However, a year prior to that, and just after his second inauguration, Trump posted a comment in all caps saying that “FEMA SHOULD BE TERMINATED! IT HAS BEEN SLOW AND TOTALLY INEFFECTIVE. INDIVIDUAL STATES SHOULD HANDLE STORMS, ETC.”

That’s the sort of derangement that we are seeing from Trump in ever more frequent lapses of his cognitive abilities. Yet he remains mentally stable enough to execute his devious schemes to acquire and retain power and wealth at the expense of the American people.

The problem is that these types of mental impairments are degenerative, and we can only expect them to get worse as time goes by. And sadly, no one in his family or political circles cares enough about him or the nation to have him committed.

UPDATE: It is now being reported that under Trump FEMA has actually declined $227 million in disaster relief to four blue states that didn’t vote for him.

Herr Trump is Already Threatening to Defy the Supreme Court Ruling on Birthright Citizenship

At the close of the current session of the Supreme Court, the Justices have handed down a mixed bag of rulings that span a surprisingly diverse range of political opinion. Some will be celebrated by Republicans who share the conservative views of the Court’s majority, while others will provoke Donald Trump to throw childish tantrums, and perhaps portions of his lunch at the Oval Office walls.

Among the decisions that Democrats will appreciate are the one that upheld mail-in voting, which Trump delusionally regards as fraught with fraud; the one that let stand the $5 million defamation judgment against him by E. Jean Carroll, who Trump was found to have sexually abused; and the one that prohibited the president from firing Federal Reserve Commissioners without cause.

Conversely, Trump will applaud the Court’s rulings on allowing discrimination against transgender athletes, and the one that permits campaign corruption via unlimited donations and spending by political parties. Which is part of his mission to undermine democracy.

Perhaps the most galling decision from Trump’s point of view is the case wherein the Court upheld the Constitution’s grant of birthright citizenship. It ought to have been an easy decision since the 14th Amendment begins “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.” And yet three Justices (Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas, and Neil Gorsuch) voted to end the practice.

True to form, Trump was appalled. Shortly after the ruling was made public he posted comments on his failing Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, expressing his outrage, as well as his intention to ignore and defy the Court. He raged that…

“The Supreme Court upheld Birthright Citizenship, which is too bad for our Country, but we can easily make it up in Congress through Legislation, with the support of the President, that has now been determined during this process. No long and unwieldy Constitutional Amendment is necessary! Congress should start TODAY to work on ending expensive and unfair to our Country, Birthright Citizenship. They will have my Complete and Total Support!”

No one will be surprised by Trump’s defiance or his intention to recruit Congress for his criminal mission to undermine the law. However, Trump’s claim that “we can easily make it up in Congress through Legislation,” is wholly without legal justification.

Trump is latching onto a portion of Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s bizarre concurrence wherein he claimed that the only reason that Trump’s executive order revoking birthright citizenship was wrong was because it violated a federal law. Which is a little rotten Easter egg that Kavanaugh laid in order to give Trump a legal lifeline. But Kavanaugh must have missed the part of the 14th Amendment that said that legislation by Congress can only be used to “enforce the provisions” of the Amendment. Not to redefine them.

Trump’s assault on the ruling and the Justices continued in a subsequent comment where he sarcastically wrote that “I would like to congratulate President Xi, and the Great Country of China, on their massive Birthright Citizenship WIN!” But that was hardly the worst of his commentaries on this subject. In recent weeks he has been posting comments that illustrated his opposition to the Constitution. For instance…

  • April 1: “We are the only Country in the World STUPID enough to allow ‘Birthright’ Citizenship!” Which is false. More 30 countries have birthright citizenship.
  • May 24: “Birthright Citizenship is suicide for our Country!” Which is Trump’s repost of a comment by Mark Levin Of Fox News.
  • June 11: “The United States of America cannot live with the shackles of Birthright Citizenship.” Never mind that the nation has lived – and thrived – with it for 158 years.

We can expect more of this sort of madness from Trump going forward. He doesn’t care that he was firmly smacked down by the Court. Nor does he care about the welfare of the Americans whose citizenship he is trying to revoke. He only cares about advancing his prejudices and the bigotry of the MAGA cult that he leads. But he is going to learn the hard way that America does not share his hatred. Well, scratch that. He never really learns anything.

Consequently, Trump is ramping up the hyperbole in his daily incoherent rants. He’s giving deranged speeches that consist mainly of infantile insults aimed at his perceived enemies, exaltations of himself for his vanity driven Capitol “beautification” projects, and dispensing lies pretty much every time he opens his mouth. Most of all, he is trying to malign Democrats as anti-American traitors, but his characterization of them as villains from 1950s comic books isn’t helping his own self image at all.

On Monday morning Trump dispatched his Propaganda Secretary, Karoline Leavitt, to her regular post on Fox News to assist his failing PR campaign. It doesn’t seem like she did much to help. But she gave it her all in attempting to advance Trump’s latest desperate effort to portray Democrats as communists. She engaged in the following exchange with Fox’s Lawrence Jones…

Leavitt: These are radical, Marxist ideas that have never worked in the history of the world. And I think that it’s a choice coming up between communism and common sense. That’s how the president views it. And that’s why Americans need to vote for this president and Republican Party and the common sense ideals that make this the greatest nation in the history of the world.
Jones: Do you think this helps the president and the Republican Party during the midterms that they have decided in this Democratic Socialist civil war that this is the new Democratic Party?
Leavitt: It certainly is.

This is yet another example of dimwitted, purposefully misleading, Republicans demonstrating that they have absolutely no idea what the definition of communism is. They just use the word as an all-purpose pejorative to frighten their equally ignorant cult followers. They might as well be warning about a pack of invading Sasquatch soldiers.

Leavitt and Trump and other hive-minded Republicans were triggered by recent primary victories by progressive Democrats. Some of them identify as Democratic Socialists, who are not communists. In fact, Democratic Socialists are in the mainstream of American politics that brought about things like Social Security, interstate highways, public libraries, Obamacare, and more of the most popular programs in the nation’s history.

What’s more, the GOP’s efforts to brand Democrats across the country as Socialists is small minded. The Democratic Party is big enough to embrace progressive Democrats in blue states and conservative Democrats in red and purple states. It isn’t one size fits all with blinded purity tests, like Republicans.

Communism, on the other hand, is a theory of government that proposes eliminating private ownership and placing the means of production in the control of the government. There is absolutely no Democrat who has supported anything even close to those ideas. Ironically, only Trump has advocated for those policies. And in office he has been exerting state power over previously independent institutions such as banking, defense, technology, transportation, and even the free press.

Trump has wielded that power by taking a role in corporate mergers, demanding multimillion dollar payments from corporations seeking government favors, and even forcing corporations to sell parts of the businesses to the government, or to him. It’s hard to tell if knows the difference. It’s as close to communism as any American president has ever come.

As for the media, while Trump has defunded public media such as PBS, NPR, and even Radio Free America, he has literally sued media conglomerates for billions of dollars, forcing them to either pay up or suffer retribution dished out by regulatory agencies over which he has assumed corrupt control. And too often they have acquiesced. Communist leaders like Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un are watching with envy.

The closer we get to the midterms, the more brazen Trump is getting. Just this month he has posted comments on his dedicated propaganda platform, Truth Social, warning that…

“In a time when there is a powerful Communist Movement taking place in our Country, one more dangerous than World War I, World War II, Pearl Harbor, or September 11th.”

And that…

“I’d be the Greatest Communist in History. I’d give free rent, free houses, free food, everything is free. Unfortunately, after two or three years, the Country where this is taking place would fail. […] These are not social Dumocrats, these are hard core, godless Communists.”

So far, none of this is succeeding in improving Trump’s standing with the American people. Which means that, knowing Trump, we can expect him to continue to sharpen his attacks and make them even less comprehensible. And of course, he will lie and misrepresent reality to his MAGA cult at every opportunity. As an example of how far he will diverge from reality, Trump is claiming to have his “Highest Poll Numbers Ever.” No, really…

For the record…Trump's poll numbers at RECORD LOWS! But even worse, he's saying here that they are the highest ever "DESPITE" Iran not having a nuclear weapon??? Someone on his incompetent, asskissing staff needs to tell him that's backwards. And also untrue.

For example, on Sunday morning conservative radio host Sid Rosenberg was invited to join the “Curvy Couch” potatoes of Fox and Friends for what they thought would be a friendly chat about Trump’s “victorious” misadventures in Iran. It didn’t go well from the start, with co-host Griff Jenkins saying that…

“The way the administration sees it, and president Trump, is ‘We can go as long as we want. And ultimately finishing it for good is on the table.'”

What Jenkins was referring to was Trump’s recent genocidal threat that “Iran will no longer exist” if they violated the ceasefire agreement that Trump has already violated. But rather than getting the expected blind concurrence, Rosenberg went rogue, saying that…

“We can’t go for as long as we want. Clearly the gas prices are too high. Midterms are coming up. Look, let’s have an honest discussion about this…We haven’t won anything yet. I’m sorry Mr. President to break the news. But we haven’t won anything yet. There’s no end to this. We’re kind of in the same exact place we were a couple of months ago. They’re still striking us. We’re still striking them. Israel is still nervous. And quite frankly, American voters are still nervous. So how do you claim victory when the game is far from over? We’re in the 6th inning.”

The Fox Friends were visibly stunned into silence. They couldn’t refute Rosenberg, so they didn’t even bother to respond. Rosenberg went on to discuss how Trump keeps threatening Iran, but that they don’t care and are not being compelled to make any concessions. Rosenberg also noted that there is no actual deal, only a vague memorandum of understanding that promises Iran billions of dollars while committing them to nothing but opening the Strait of Hormuz, which was open before Trump started all of this.

This illustrates how hard it is for Fox News to keep up their propaganda. But they are nothing if not determined. Yesterday they interviewed White House deputy press secretary, Abigail Jackson, who rattled off some blatantly false talking points and the preposterous assertion that “Trump has been right about everything on Iran.”

It’s what drove him to incite an insurrection when his first occupation of the White House came to an inglorious end. And it’s why he has such contempt for the Constitution and its restraints on the presidency.

Nevertheless, the authoritarian aspirations of Trump keep emerging in increasingly extreme displays of desperation as his approval ratings sink ever deeper into an abyss. And the deeper he sinks, the more pronounced his delusions of popularity become.

This week Trump launched his “Freedom 250” celebration of himself, disguised in part as an event associated with Independence Day. Unfortunately for him, his party has been a humiliating bust with a sparse turnout for pitifully dull exhibits and attractions. It was so bad that Trump had to beg his cult disciples to show up to prevent him from looking like the loser that he is.

So it should come as no surprise that Trump is suffering an acute case of anxiety triggered by his malignant narcissism that is likely covering up his suppressed low self-esteem. Deep down he likely knows just how despised he is by broad majorities of the American people, and he can’t handle it. So he employs projection to deflect his insecurities onto others. This was evident during a speech he gave to the ultra right-wing, Christian nationalist “Faith and Freedom Coalition” where he said that…

“You have to respect the president. If you don’t respect the president, you’re going to have a problem.”

Leave it to Trump to devolve a desire for respect into a threat. He doesn’t detail what sort of problem you’ll have if you fail to be sufficiently respectful to him, but it’s likely to involve detention in one of his many new concentration camps. And never mind that his threat is unlawful and grotesquely anti-American. Respect for the president in a constitutional democracy is earned, not forced. He’s mistaking America for North Korea.

Furthermore, Trump is hardly the right person to advocate for presidential respect. He is the same guy who badgered President Obama for years as a stupid, racist, Muslim from Kenya. And he promoted a disgustingly racist video depicting the Obamas as apes. When confronted with it he refused to apologize saying that “I didn’t make a mistake.” And Trump just posted this today…

President Obama recently noted that he "has a suite" in Trump's head. So Trump confirmed it by posting this on his Truth(less) (Anti)Social.But I fixed it by adding the update at the bottom.

Trump also displayed his disrespect for President Biden, calling him “Sleepy Joe,” and repeatedly asserting that he is so cognitively impaired that “he doesn’t even know he’s alive.” Which is more projection from Trump who can’t stay awake during his own Cabinet meetings. And of course it is something less than respectful to incite a violent insurrection in an attempt to overturn the results of the election that Biden won. Six years later Trump is still claiming, without a shred of evidence, that he didn’t lose the 2020 election.

Trump will have another opportunity to demonstrate his respect for the president shortly after the election in 2028. Or perhaps sooner if there is any justice. But his threats to get respect for himself are going to fail as badly as his “Freedom 250” festival. That ship has sailed. You can’t restore respect after losing an illegal war with Iran, wrecking the U.S. economy, alienating America’s allies, fouling the environment, fraudulently enriching yourself, lying pathologically, and trying to silence the free press.

In recent days Trump’s illegal war against Iran has devolved into a cesspool of acrimony and retaliatory threats, while Trump claimed he had just successfully negotiated a deal for peace. And speaking of cesspools, Trump’s “renovation” of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool continues to be more reflective of a sewage swamp.

Furthermore, Trump’s mismanagement of the economy has resulted in higher inflation and rising costs for everything from gas, to groceries, to housing, to healthcare, and more. Consequently, it should come as no surprise that Trump’s approval ratings are in the toilet. Which makes it all the more bizarre that he seems to think that he’s riding a wave of massive popularity.

On Friday morning Trump posted a comment on his dedicated propaganda platform, Truth Social, “bragging” about having found a poll that “accurately” measures how universally beloved he is. He claims, without providing a source, that he has approval ratings of “65% and more.” In the post he linked to an article by the rightist rag Newsmax, that cited a poll putting him at only 50%. And that one was done by the notoriously biased, right-wing pollster McLaughlin. And even that was ridiculously inflated. See CNN’s poll of polls average placing Trump at an abysmal 37% approval.

This sort of lying about his perceived fabulousness is patently Trumpian behavior. However, it’s difficult to tell whether he actually believes this obvious bullpucky, or if he is just so determined to avoid telling the painful truth that he doesn’t care how apparent his lies are. If it advances his efforts to deceive his gullible cult disciples, he’s all in.

Clinging to rabidly partisan pollsters, and manufacturing other numbers that exist only in his rapidly putrefying brain, is typically Trump. Just two days ago he posted a comment that said simply (and firmly in all caps) that “MY REAL POLL NUMBERS ARE THE HIGHEST THEY HAVE EVER BEEN. THANK YOU!!!” As usual, he didn’t bother to include a link to any poll confirming that claim. He just expects his devotees to believe whatever he says. Because that’s how cults work.

Trump’s vision of himself as a messianic figure continued on Friday with a speech to the “Faith and Freedom Coalition.” It was a speech crammed with theocratic crackpottery that reeked of political biases, religious bigotry, and incitements to violence. It also included something that Trump framed as a joke. But it was the sort of joke that Trump tells when he’s expressing his true feelings, but doesn’t want to take heat for it. He whined that…

America is approaching a significant milestone in its relatively brief history. On July 4th it will be celebrating the 250th anniversary of its independence. And much of the nation is gearing up for a celebration that will pay tribute to the nation’s past and look forward to it’s future.

It’s too bad that the current occupant of the White House, Donald Trump, isn’t planning to be a part of all of that. Instead, he is planning a celebration that recognizes only His MAGA-sty with a series of events that virtually ignores what truly makes America great in favor of presenting a feast of egomaniacal extravaganzas that exalt himself and his delusional, perceived superiority. On Wednesday night Trump christened his “Freedom 250” affair with a speech on the National Mall. And true to form, he spent most of his time kissing his own asinine posterior. However, the con man in him made sure to promote his next appearance with a rather pathetic plea to his gullible cult followers…

“On July 4, we will have the greatest show of all on the National Mall. Your favorite president will be speaking. So please show up. Because if we have two empty seats, you know what’s gonna happen? The fake news is gonna say, ‘He didn’t fill out the arena.'”

Naturally Trump employs the rhetoric of a circus barker, with his “greatest show” lingo. And remember, this is the Trump rally that nearly every performer originally announced canceled. And now the “entertainment” consists only of Lee Greenwood, a couple of military marching bands, and Trump. But it’s surprising that he announced that “your favorite president” will be there. So President Obama will be speaking?

More telling is that Trump had to resort to begging his disciples to show up for the event. And his reasoning was not because they should honor the country and celebrate its independence. Nope. Trump’s reason for pleading with them to attend was to prevent him from looking like the pathetic loser that he is. That’s the obligation of cult minions. Always fluff Dear Leader’s ego.

On Thursday morning Trump boasted about Wednesday night’s speech in a comment that he posted to his failing Twitter ripoff, Truth Social. He babbled about the “incredible” crowd, lying that it was “At least 45,000 people…with a huge Television and online audience.” Other more credible estimates placed the audience at 5,000-6,000. And he couldn’t possibly know the TV viewership because those numbers haven’t been released yet. When they are released they are unlikely to be particularly impressive because even Fox News only aired about 15 minutes of it.

Trump also claimed that “Everybody stayed right until the end of my Speech.” Which is another lie. And it was contradicted by videos of people leaving while he was still speaking.
