HUH? Trump Told Hannity He Didn’t Pack the Mar-a-Lago Docs that He Declassified With His Mind

It’s just another morning in Trumplandia and its Dear Leader, Donald Trump, is engaged in a fever swamp freak out over at his floundering social media scam, Truth Social. So far he has posted 36 mouth-frothing comments that only affirm how petrified he is by the rash of bad news he’s so pitifully whining about.

This “truthing” tantrum was triggered by the announcement on Wednesday that New York Attorney General Letitia James has filed a lawsuit against Trump and his crime family for fraud. James is seeking to strip Trump of his New York businesses and levy a penalty of $250 million dollars. And the case is so strong that even Trump’s surrogates are folding.

In his defense, Trump scurried off to Fox News where their Senior Trump-Fluffer, Sean Hannity, was ready to offer solace and pre-chewed excuses that Trump could slip into. However, these staged propaganda pieces often seem better suited to Comedy Central than any network with the word “News” in their name.

Among the hilarious punchlines delivered by Trump was his assertion that he is able to telepathically declassify highly sensitive national security documents.

“You’re the president of the United States you can declassify just by saying It’s declassified.’ Even by thinking about it. Because you’re sending it to Mar-a-Lago, or to wherever you’re sending it, and there doesn’t have to be a process. There can be a process, but there doesn’t have to be.”

Nope. That’s not how any of this works. This isn’t “Bewitched.” There is definitely a process and it must be observed, even by a president. Otherwise, how would anyone else in government know whether a document was classified or not? But Trump was just getting started. He went on to say that…

“I declassified everything. Now I declassified things that we were having a lot of problems with NARA [National Archives and Records Administration]. You know, NARA is a radical left group of people running that thing, and when you send documents over there, I would say that there’s a very good chance that a lot of those documents will never be seen again. There’s also a lot of speculation because of what they did, the severity of the FBI coming and raiding Mar-a-Lago. Were they looking for the Hillary emails that were deleted, but they are around someplace.”

If Trump’s claim that he declassified “everything,” is true, then anyone can now request it. Me, Rachel Maddow, Stephen Colbert, or even one of Vladimir Putin’s American assets (i.e. Tucker Carlson). What’s more, Trump’s knee-jerk habit of declaring any institution that isn’t subservient to his will a “radical left group,” is getting tiresome. He has already plastered that label on everything from the FBI to the Pentagon. And his preposterous charge that the FBI was looking for Hillary Clinton’s emails is downright hysterical.

And Trump still had more to say. He told Hannity that he can’t be prosecuted under the “Presidential Records Act.” Which no one is trying to do. However, the Act does say that “Presidential records automatically transfer into the legal custody of the Archivist as soon as the President leaves office.” So bringing it up only further incriminates him. He also says the Secret Service was “watching over” the documents at Mar-a-Lago. Which is, of course, untrue. The Secret Service is detailed to former presidents, not things.

Finally, with regard to what was packed and moved from the White House to Mar-a-Lago, Trump pleaded ignorance. Which in his case is pretty easy to believe. However, he is contradicting his own claims to having declassified everything. He told Hannity that he didn’t pack any of the boxes that were later found at his hotel/home. That was, according to Trump, all done by the GSA [General Services Administration] or White House staff. He incoherently stammered that…

“GSA was involved. That’s Government services. They’re fantastic people. And they packed them… and not only that, they brought ’em in, along with people in the White House. I don’t know who they are, but there are a lot of people working in the White House. They packed them up but… clothing, massive amounts of pictures. You know they take so many amounts of pictures every day, and they give you copies of all this stuff. And it’s boxes and boxes of pictures.”

Trump conveniently forgot to mention the boxes and boxes of classified documents. And it’s his contention now that all of those boxes were packed by GSA and White House staff who he doesn’t know. By the way, none of those people would have clearance to handle classified documents. But more to the point, how could Trump have declassified them – with his mind or otherwise – if he didn’t know they were even there because he had nothing to do with packing them?

What was Trump’s mind declassifying? Does he even know? That’s just another one of the many mysteries that we are left to wonder about in the wake of Trump’s occupation of the White House. Hopefully one of the many criminal investigations of Trump will clear that up for him – and for us.
