Jon Stewart Slams Fox News’ Commotion Over Common

It’s been a few days since Fox News had some ridiculously irrelevant, phony scandal to trump up over President Obama. With the release of the birth certificate and Osama Bin Laden being lost at sea, Fox was running out of distractions to the wildly unpopular GOP proposal to end Medicare and Obama’s rising poll ratings. Lucky for them Michelle Obama provided an opening by inviting rapper Common to a White House event promoting poetry to children.

The ensuing controversy was built on a thoroughly dishonest representation of the lyrics to a Common rhyme from 2007. In typical fashion, Fox Breitbarted Common by truncating his words. The allegedly violent verse that outraged everyone at Fox was really just a poetic description of reality in some communities that ended with this call for peace:

“No time for that cause there’s things to be done. Stay true to what I do so the youth dream come.”

That, however, didn’t stop Fox from riling up their gullible audience with a campaign to elicit fear of this African-American artist and to transfer that fear to the President. You know, the Halfrican Marxist from Kenya. Fox Nation posted eight separate stories on this subject. It is clearly more important to them than the economy, the war on terror, or even Newt Gingrich’s ill-fated presidential campaign.

Thank goodness for Jon Stewart who, once again, managed to put this nonsense in perspective by demonstrating the hypocrisy of Fox and the other hyperventilating martinets of virtue.

Maybe now we can get back to the truly important issues like Bristol Palin’s plastic surgery.

[Update] The Fox Nationalists posted two more stories about Common this morning, for a total of ten to date. In the same time frame Fox Nation posted one (that’s 1) story about the disastrous flooding on the Mississippi. Says something about their priorities, doesn’t it?

  1. Thanks for the post and clips of Stewart show. Fox not News will never let up with this nonsense. It is there mission. They got upset when the first lady promoted better nutrition for kids. This is just the latest outrage in a long string of outrages and there will be many more to come. It’s like Stewart said at the end of the second clip it is so easy to point out how disingeneous they are it isn’t even fun anymore. But they must be exposed for this eventhough it is tedious it is a never ending job that needs to be done.

  2. Roger Ailes a homosexual pedophile? Bill O’Reilly has a thing for anal sex with goats? Glenn Beck drinks his own urine? Sean Hannity unable to tie own shoes?*

Just trying to get the “Fox Nation” hang of things.
    *Probably true.

  3. I find it extremely funny the more they knot Obama of Fox the more they look foolish and Obama is shown to be the adult. I am so ashamed of them and even the republican party for acting like of bunch of children on the playground. They act like a bunch of bullies. I hope people are watching and will kick these bastard out of office. I called my representative today and told him I would make sure everyone knew that he voted for the Ryan bill and he will hopefully be kicked out. The man is a doctor and a teabagger from Tn. I hope people here are paying attention all over this country.

    • I agree…and while the GOP claims to be the people’s party, they sure do spend a lot of tax payers money on wasting time, trying to make Obama look bad or passing bills to kill Unions or take women’s basic right to their own bodies away,or protect the Corporations.I don’t remember the last time the GOP actually tried to pass a bill to help american people….
The GOP is a joke if you ask me….pathetic.

      • They never have. They are the party of corporations and wealthy. They can’t help themselves. People mistakely think they are all for vets. That is a laugh. I mean a real laugh. They want to cut their benefits. It is the democrats who always have supported the enlisted soldiers in this country. Until the right wing has gotten awhole of the soldiers and their religious beliefs. Pay attention we all must pay attention. WE ALL MUST VOTE or we will end up with a education system we don’t recognize or any liberal ideas are taken away from education books. Plus we must worry about a Evangelica take over the country.

        • Dewd….PROOF READ. It’ll make you look better esp. if you talk about education.
