Herr Trump Decrees that He Will Abolish Mail-In Voting and that States Must Obey His MAGA-STY

The goal of the totalitarian dystopia that Donald Trump has been craving just got closer to realization with his posting of a tediously long and lie-riddled rant on his failing Twitter rip off, Truth Social. Adding to his deployment of ICE stormtroopers in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., and his directives to have his Justice Department persecute his political foes, Trump is decreeing a new and obvious breach of the Constitution aimed at advancing his autocratic aspirations.

Donald Trump, Vote By Mail

Trump’s latest tyrannical outburst decrees that he will unilaterally abolish what he calls the “THE MAIL-IN BALLOT HOAX.” [Has anyone been counting his alleged hoaxes?] His proposal would end mail-in voting throughout the country. It’s part of a plan that Trump is executing to rig elections in order to suppress the rights of voters and support the election of his MAGA Republicans. And it comes on the heels of his campaign to redraw congressional districts to favor the GOP and deny Democrats a fair vote.

In Trump’s post he virtually admits his anti-democratic intentions, saying that it is his purpose to harm Democratic voters “with their HORRIBLE Radical Left policies.” But there is so much more in his extended harangue that ought to concern all Americans. For instance…

“I am going to lead a movement to get rid of MAIL-IN BALLOTS, and also, while we’re at it, Highly “Inaccurate,” Very Expensive, and Seriously Controversial VOTING MACHINES.”
The elimination of mail-in voting – and electronic voting machines – would make it impossible to conduct the vote counting in a timely manner. It would also be more prone to errors.

“We are now the only Country in the World that uses Mail-In Voting. All others gave it up because of the MASSIVE VOTER FRAUD ENCOUNTERED.”
This is a flat out lie. At least 30 other countries permit mail-in voting. That includes Russia. Which is a ludicrous example of fair voting practices, but who Trump used to support his lie.

“WE WILL BEGIN THIS EFFORT, WHICH WILL BE STRONGLY OPPOSED BY THE DEMOCRATS BECAUSE THEY CHEAT AT LEVELS NEVER SEEN BEFORE, by signing an EXECUTIVE ORDER.”
Trump is projecting again. It is he and the GOP who are most commonly found to have cheated in elections. More to the point., he has no power to order how elections are held, especially not by executive order.

“Remember, the States are merely an ‘agent’ for the Federal Government in counting and tabulating the votes. They must do what the Federal Government, as represented by the President of the United States, tells them.”
HOLY CRAP! Trump is saying out loud that he believes that he, as president, can issue mandates to the nation that must be obeyed, and that override the state sovereignty provided in the Constitution.

“Democrats are virtually Unelectable without using this completely disproven Mail-In SCAM. ELECTIONS CAN NEVER BE HONEST WITH MAIL IN BALLOTS/VOTING, and everybody, IN PARTICULAR THE DEMOCRATS, KNOWS THIS.”
What Trump means here is that he is scared to death of fair elections, and that they must not be permitted in the future. He has previously said that if mail-in voting is allowed “There will never be a Republican elected to high office again.” Which sounds more like a reward than a threat. However, he has also taken the opposite position, urging his supporters to “vote absentee, by mail, early in person, or on Election Day.”

For the record, Article I, Section 4, Clause 1, of the Constitution states that “The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by Law make or alter such Regulations, except as to the Places of chusing Senators.”

In short, the president does not have the authority to alter the way states decide to hold their elections. At best he would need to get Congress to pass legislation to make any changes to state law.

Not that Trump gives a damn about the Constitution. Although, it could be interesting to see if Republicans in Congress would willingly give up their Constitutional authorities. They have done it before for Dear Leader Trump. But hopefully there are lines that even they won’t cross in their betrayal of American principles.

That explains why Trump and his MAGA minions are desperately plotting to rig the 2026 elections in order to maintain their tyrannical grip power. To that end, Texas governor Greg Abbott has assembled a special session of the Texas state legislature to force a rare mid-census redistricting, intending to redraw the district maps to favor Republicans and oust Democrats. Although he may end up regretting the partisan hornet’s nest that he has aroused.

Not one to be left out of any fiery news cycle, Trump joined in with his own ideas that represent a massive escalation of his war to crown himself King of America. On his failing Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, Trump posted a comment announcing his intention to raise the ante on redistricting with a grossly unlawful scheme to steal the elections in 2026 and 2028 and beyond…

“I have instructed our Department of Commerce to immediately begin work on a new and highly accurate CENSUS based on modern day facts and figures and, importantly, using the results and information gained from the Presidential Election of 2024. People who are in our Country illegally WILL NOT BE COUNTED IN THE CENSUS. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

First of all, Trump couldn’t care less about accuracy or facts. If he did he would not have just fired the commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics simply because he didn’t like the accurate facts that were revealed in the recent jobs report.

More to the point, Trump’s decree to conduct a new census on a purely political partisan basis is blatantly unconstitutional. Not that he cares about that either. But the Constitution clearly states how the census is to be conducted in Article I, Section 2, Clause 3, which says that…

“The actual Enumeration shall be made within three Years after the first Meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent Term of ten Years, in such Manner as they shall by Law direct.”

So according to the Constitution, the census is to be conducted once every ten years. There is nothing in that clause that allows for more frequent surveys. There are also no funds allocated by Congress to pay the $15 billion dollars that it costs to do a new, complete census.

However, that isn’t the only Constitutional obstacle to Trump’s ludicrous plan. He says openly that he wants his new survey to exclude “People who are in our Country illegally.” That is also prohibited by constitutional law. The 14th Amendment, Section 2, states that…

“Representatives shall be apportioned among the several states according to their respective numbers, counting the whole number of persons in each state, excluding Indians not taxed.”

While undocumented persons do not vote, they are persons. And it is critical to know the total number of all persons to ensure that states receive and allocate adequate resources to serve their entire resident population. You cannot simply pretend that real human beings don’t exist. An accurate complete count impacts everything from housing, to police and fire services, to education, to nutritional and health matters, to traffic, and more.

What’s more, the financial contributions of undocumented persons to the economy need to be assessed. For instance, in 2022, undocumented immigrant households paid $96.7 billion in federal, state, and local taxes, and had $299 billion in spending power. They also fulfill labor needs in fields such as agriculture, construction, healthcare, etc. And they pay into the Social Security Trust Fund, even though they cannot collect from it. In fact, undocumented immigrants paid $25.7 billion in Social Security taxes in 2022.

Consequently, Trump’s idea of excluding undocumented persons from the census would be materially harmful to every municipality, and to the nation as a whole. Meanwhile, any changes to the apportionment of congressional representatives or Electoral Collage votes would be minimal with offsetting impact for both parties.

In conclusion, there is no reason to conduct another census with Trump’s racist adjustments other than to satiate the hatred by Trump and his MAGA movement. And the legal barriers to it are impossible to overcome without actions taken by Congress or constitutional amendment.

Trump tried this before and was struck down by the Supreme Court with a decision written by conservative Justice John Roberts. So maybe Trump’s motivation for doing this is not just to steal an election. Maybe he’s also using it as yet another distraction from the Jeffrey Epstein/Ghislaine Maxwell affair that he is trying so feverishly to avoid. And he’s losing on both counts.

Trump Threatens to Revoke the Citizenship of Rosie O’Donnell Calling Her ‘A Threat to Humanity’

He has made it his mission to subvert the privileges granted by the founding fathers in order to advance his own authoritarian aspirations.

Trump is notorious for his aversion to the principles on which this country was founded, and for his pitiful ignorance and/or purposeful rejection of them. He has been openly hostile to the First Amendment’s protection of free speech and the right to dissent. Particularly when that speech or dissent is directed at him. And he has repeatedly threatened the media when it is less than unflinchingly worshipful.

On Saturday morning Trump once again exhibited his seething animosity toward the freedom of Americans in a post to his failing Twitter ripoff, Truth Social. He lashed out at the popular entertainer Rosie O’Donnell in a manner that was both infantile and unlawful. He wrote that…

“Because of the fact that Rosie O’Donnell is not in the best interests of our Great Country, I am giving serious consideration to taking away her Citizenship. She is a Threat to Humanity, and should remain in the wonderful Country of Ireland, if they want her. GOD BLESS AMERICA!”

First of all, Trump cannot revoke the citizenship of someone born in the U.S. That’s a privilege reserved only for the sort of dictators that Trump admires and seeks to emulate. Secondly, his assertion that she is “a Threat to Humanity” is beyond merely insulting, it is patently insane.

What’s more, his reason for the threatened revocation is simply that he hates O’Donnell for her daring to criticize him. Earlier this year she moved her family to Ireland until “it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights there in America.” She elaborated saying that…

“[Trump] is a disgrace to all our beautiful country stands for – he is a danger to the nation – a mentally ill untreated criminal who lied to America for a decade.”

If that opinion is sufficient to revoke someone’s citizenship, then he would have to do it to at least another 75 million Americans.

Ironically, at the beginning of Trump’s second occupation of the White House, he signed an executive order that was purportedly to restore free speech in America. In actuality, it was designed to censor the speech of government critics. As reported by NPR (a news enterprise that Trump is currently seeking to censor)…

“Among the dozens of executive actions President Trump signed on his first day in office is one aimed at ‘restoring freedom of speech and ending federal censorship.’ Legal and political experts say it raises concerns about the new administration’s willingness to punish its perceived enemies, such as civil servants and researchers who study how propaganda and conspiracy theories travel online. […]

“The order bars the government from ‘any conduct that would unconstitutionally abridge the free speech of any American citizen’ […] No longer will our government label the speech of our own citizens as misinformation or disinformation'”

See that? Trump is trying to make it illegal to point out flagrant falsehoods intended to deceive the public. Which just happens to be something that Trump and his media puppets do on a daily basis. And he is disguising this censorship as a protection of free speech. In other words, you are free to speak unless you are exposing Trump’s propaganda as the the disinformation that it is.

Now Trump is furthering his revulsion of the rights of Americans to express themselves by threatening O’Donnell with the loss of her citizenship, simply because she had the audacity to tell the truth about him. This is worse than a mere political disagreement. It’s a symptom of his malignant narcissism and paranoia. Who’s next on his enemies list? Bruce Springsteen? Gavin Newsom? Perhaps Thomas Jefferson retroactively? Eventually it will by you!

Paramount Caves to Trump’s Extortion, Disgraces CBS, Pays a $16M Bribe to Settle a Bogus Lawsuit

In yet another capitulation by Big Media to the ravenous whims of aspiring authoritarian Donald Trump, Paramount Global has succumbed to the insidious intimidation of a tyrannical threat intended to quash the freedom of the press guaranteed by the Constitution’s First Amendment. It’s just the latest assault on the media that Trump frequently refers to in Stalinist terms as “the enemy of the people.”

Donald Trump and Media - ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, CNN, FOX

On Wednesday morning it was announced that Paramount had agreed to a settlement of the lawsuit that Trump had brought against CBS News, alleging that the network had defamed him by editing part of an interview with Kamala Harris. Never mind that the editing (which was nominated for an Emmy) was proper and routine and done only for time and clarity. To Trump it was an assault on his tender sensitivities…

The settlement was nothing more than Paramount bowing to the extortion of a mob boss president who was only interested in exacting revenge on a news organization that had the audacity to present a fair and balanced interview of a political opponent and to report the truth about him. As reported by CNN…

“CBS News parent Paramount Global has agreed to pay $16 million to resolve a legally dubious lawsuit filed by President Donald Trump over a ’60 Minutes’ news report last fall.” […]

“Legal experts maintained that Trump’s suit was frivolous and that CBS was on solid ground to fight and win the case in court. But corporate priorities trumped journalistic principles. Paramount has been trying for months to complete a lucrative merger with Skydance Media, and the deal requires approval from the Trump administration, in part because CBS owns local stations that are licensed by the government. This gave Trump a form of leverage over Paramount.” […]

In short, Paramount paid a bribe to Trump in order to get him to allow their multibillion merger with Skydance Media (owned by Trump associates Larry and David Ellison) to proceed with approval from Trump’s FCC. The fate of the merger was of – shall we say paramount – concern to the chairwoman of the corporation, Shari Redstone, who stands to make hundreds of millions of dollars when the merger is completed.

The settlement that Paramount agreed to was for $16 million that would cover Trump’s legal expenses, with the remainder going to his eventual presidential library. But far worse than that, it establishes a precedent for bullying news enterprises in order to shape their reporting or to make them pay for being honest and independent. And despite the fact that there was no apology or other statement of wrongdoing or regret, Trump still claimed that he scored a total victory. His legal team said that…

“[The settlement] holds the Fake News media accountable for their wrongdoing and deceit. CBS and Paramount Global realized the strength of this historic case and had no choice but to settle.”

None of that statement is remotely related to reality. It’s hard to sue for $20 billion in damages – which was the original amount sought by Trump – and settle for 0.08% of that, and spin it as a strong case that Paramount “had no choice but to settle.” Particularly when Trump couldn’t even get any kind of an apology, and the funds would not be going directly to him, but to his library, if there ever is one.

Nevertheless, the damage done to the reputation of CBS News is significant and enduring. It was a decision by their corporate parent to sacrifice the network’s credibility in order to enrich their owners. And their weakness makes it harder for other news organizations to stand up to the kind of criminal protection racket tactics that Trump is so notorious for engaging in. Hopefully any other media outfit facing this in the future will have more courage than than the cowards at Paramount.

What 1st Amendment? Trump Threatens to Prosecute CNN for Imaginary Crimes Against Dear Leader

The determination of Donald Trump to exert tyrannical control over the media that he despises has taken another turn for the worse. He is now not only insulting them as “fake” news, or demeaning them as “the enemy of the people,” or suing them on preposterous charges of defamation. He has escalated his wrath to outright threats of prosecution.

Bear in mind that Trump has not identified any actual crime that anyone in the press has committed. He has never needed any such trivialities as prosecutable offenses to backup his wild accusations. Trump merely babbles maniacally about some imagined illegality and expects his cult devotees to follow blindly.

Trump participated in a staged photo-op in Florida to visit a new migrant detention facility that features alligator infested surrounding waters. Of course, the alligators have no impact whatsoever on the security of the facility. But the gruesome cruelty of the notion of migrants – including children – being ripped to shreds delights the sickly morbidity of the MAGA crowd.

During the press conference Trump was asked questions about some of his other inhumane and unconstitutional mass deportation initiatives. One in particular addressed a news report by CNN about a publicly available app that advised people of where ICE agents were conducting operations. Which led to the following exchange…

Question: CNN yesterday pushed an app that lets you track where ICE agents are. [Border czar] Tom Homan said that perhaps CNN should be prosecuted for that. Your Thoughts?
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem: We’re working with the Department of Justice to see if we can prosecute them for that. Because what they’re doing is actively encouraging people to avoid law enforcement activities, operations, and we’re going to actually go after them and prosecute with the partnership of [Attorney General] Pam [Bondi] if we can, because what they are doing we believe is illegal.
Trump: And they may very well be prosecuted also for having given false reports on the attack in Iran. They were given totally false reports.

DHS Secretary Noem’s assertion that CNN engaged in some illegal activity has no basis in reality. They are entirely within their rights to report on the existence of an app that is available for anyone to download. That is journalism, not promotion. They never “encouraged” anyone to use the app. And it’s purpose is merely to notify the public about activities that ICE agents are openly engaging in. Which is also legal.

Trump went further – and wildly off-topic – to threaten CNN with prosecution for “having given false reports on the attack in Iran.” Once again, it is only Trump’s opinion that the reports were false. CNN derived the information from Trump’s own intelligence team. As previously reported, Trump’s Propaganda Secretary, Karoline Leavitt, complained about CNN for…

“…accurately reporting what Trump’s own intel professionals said about the results of the air strikes. They revealed that, according to the Defense Intelligence Agency, the Pentagon’s intelligence arm, Iran’s nuclear capabilities had only been damaged partially, and that they could be rebuilt within months.”

So CNN’s reporting was correct. However, even if it were not, that isn’t illegal either. News organizations are allowed to make make mistakes, and corrections when necessary. In this case it wasn’t necessary. But if Trump still wasn’t satisfied, he could file another wholly unwarranted lawsuit for defamation. But he cannot issue criminal indictments. CNN replied to these anti-constitutional threats saying that…

“There is nothing illegal about reporting the existence of this or any other app, nor does such reporting constitute promotion or other endorsement of the app by CNN.”

Trump’s use of intimidation against the media is more proof of his penchant for fascism. He would love to throw journalists in jail for reporting the truth about him. He has also been threatening political foes with arrest. Just in the past 48 hours he has mused about arresting Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic candidate for mayor of New York City, and Alejandro Mayorkas, the former Secretary of Homeland Security, and he indicated his openness to deporting Elon Musk, his former BFF and DOGE chief.

Trump’s threats of prosecuting journalists, along with his civil litigation, are long standing obsessions that reveal his hatred of the Constitution and its First Amendment protections. And it is a troubling signal of his intentions to control the media and form a fascist regime that won’t tolerate a free press or free thought. At this point in the process, he isn’t even trying to hide it. Which means that it is more imperative than ever to resist him and his authoritarian aspirations. The welfare of the country is at stake.

10 New Republican Precedents for Presidential Power that Trump and Co. May Come to Regret: Axios

And they are brazen assaults on the Constitution, particularly the promise of due process and protections of the free press.

In five short months, Trump’s second occupation of the White House has proven to be far more destructive of the principles that shaped the nation. Trump has surrounded himself with suck-ups who will never challenge his anti-American proposals. And he has set a determined course to cleanse the government of knowledgeable, non-partisan administrators and legal counsel. That leaves him with a worshipful cult of sycophants who are devoted to Dear Leader…

Unfortunately, Trump has succeeded in some measure to construct a cabal of loyalists in his administration. And with the help of the radical right-leaning Supreme Court, he has managed to secure a number of policy and process victories that he is giddily celebrating. However, Trump may not have as much to celebrate as he thinks. As reported by Axios, Trump and his minions in Congress are setting some new precedents that could come back to bite him in his asinine and arrogant rear flank.

“Through silence or vocal support, House and Senate Republicans are backing an extraordinary set of new precedents for presidential power they may come to regret if and when Democrats seize those same powers…New precedents are exhilarating when you’re in power — and excruciating when you’re not.”

Here are 10 new precedents, all set with minimal GOP dissent:

  1. Presidents can limit the classified information they share with lawmakers after bombing a foreign country without the approval of Congress.
    Trump is already refusing to brief Democrats in Congress on his adventurism in Iran, and who knows what else.
  2. Presidents can usurp Congress’s power to levy tariffs, provided they declare a national emergency.
    The constitution gives Congress the authority to levy taxes and tariffs, not the president.
  3. Presidents can unilaterally freeze spending approved by Congress, and dismantle or fire the heads of independent agencies established by law.
    Trump has unlawfully impounded funds allocated by law and terminated thousands of agency staff over which he has no authority.
  4. Presidents can take control of a state’s National Guard, even if the governor opposes it, and occupy the state for as long as said president wants.
    This is the fascist overreach that Trump has taken in Los Angeles, despite having no legal basis or justification.
  5. Presidents can accept gifts from foreign nations, as large as a $200 million plane, even if it’s unclear whether said president gets to keep the plane at the end of the term.
    The plane that Trump is getting from Qatar will cost taxpayers another billion dollars to retrofit to standards that comply with Air Force One. And then it will be gifted to his library.
  6. Presidents can actively profit from their time in office, including creating new currencies structured to allow foreign nationals to invest anonymously, benefiting said president.
    Trump is raking in millions (billions?) of dollars from his personal businesses and crypto scams.
  7. Presidents can try to browbeat the Federal Reserve into cutting interest rates, including by floating replacements for the Fed chair before their term is up.
    Trump has been lying that there is no inflation and, therefore, Fed Chair Jerome Powell is stupid for not cutting interest rates.
  8. Presidents can direct the Justice Department to prosecute their political opponents and punish critics. These punishments can include stripping Secret Service protections, suing them and threatening imprisonment.
    Trump has already pardoned 1,500 insurrectionists, and then fired the attorneys in the Justice Department who prosecuted them. And his Attorney Genuflect, Pam Bondi has indicted several Democrats on trumped up charges.
  9. Presidents can punish media companies, law firms and universities that don’t share their viewpoints or values.
    Trump is suing several ABC News, CBS News, the New York Times, and others, for having the audacity to report the truth about him. And he is threatening and defunding universities who refuse to kowtow to his fascist demands.
  10. Presidents can aggressively pardon supporters, including those who made large political donations as part of their bid for freedom. The strength of the case in said pardons is irrelevant.
    Not only is the strength of the case irrelevant, but so is the crime. Trump has pardoned deep-pocketed supporters who were convicted of drug trafficking, sex crimes, and more.

This is not a comprehensive list. The dangerous precedents being set by Trump extend to many other matters, including immigration, foreign aid, civil liberties, voting rights, state sovereignty, and so much more.

The one thing that Trump and the MAGA GOP have going for them is that Democrats are far more personally moral and legally ethical. While these precedents may apply to them as well when they are in power, they are less likely to avail themselves of them, or to abuse them the way that Trump and Republicans do. And at this stage in Trump’s dissolution of American democracy, it’s hard to say whether that’s a good thing or bad thing.

In the wake of the bombing mission that Donald Trump ordered allegedly to rid Iran of nuclear weapons capabilities, the media had the audacity to do their job and report on what was known about the mission and its results. That, of course, drove Trump crazy, because the last thing he ever wants is for the truth about his often reckless escapades being exposed to the light of day.

In Trump World it is never permitted to do or say anything critical of Dear Leader. His every word is to be regarded as if gospel, and every act must be glorified with the enthusiasm of an adoring apostle. That’s evident in the worshipful testimony delivered by his devoted propaganda purveyors.

On Thursday Trump underwent a severe mental breakdown triggered by the press that he hates and regularly maligns as “the enemy of the people.” In a barrage of rancid posts to his failing Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, Trump unleashed a series of demands that journalists he doesn’t like be fired. He seems to think that he’s still on “The Apprentice” and can axe people from his program at will.

The primary target of Trump’s wrath was CNN’s Pentagon correspondent, Natasha Bertrand. Trump began his harangue by lashing out at her on Wednesday saying that…

“Natasha Bertrand should be FIRED from CNN! I watched her for three days doing Fake News. She should be IMMEDIATELY reprimanded, and then thrown out ‘like a dog.'” [And that] “She lied on the Laptop from Hell Story, and now she lied on the Nuclear Sites Story, attempting to destroy our Patriot Pilots by making them look bad…She should not be allowed to work at Fake News CNN….FIRE NATASHA!”

First of all, does anyone really believe that Trump watched CNN for three days? Setting that aside, Trump’s claim that she lied is…well, a lie. She reported what she was told by Trump’s own Defense Department Intelligence Agency. Trump even later admitted that. Although he complained that the DIA assessment was preliminary. Which Bertrand reported saying that “The analysis of the damage to the sites and the impact of the strikes on Iran’s nuclear ambitions is ongoing, and could change as more intelligence becomes available.”

Trump tried to spin this story as an attack on the pilots who flew the mission to Iran. Which is pure bullpucky. He also dredged up a five year old complaint about Hunter Biden’s laptop, which was also correctly reported by Bertrand. Then on Thursday, Trump continued his tantrum with several posts demanding the termination of many more reporters. He whined that…

“Rumor is that the Failing New York Times and Fake News CNN will be firing the reporters who made up the FAKE stories on the Iran Nuclear sites because they got it so wrong. Lets see what happens?”

And that…

“One of the greatest, most professional, and most ‘confirming’ News Conferences I have ever seen! The Fake News should fire everyone involved in this Witch Hunt, and apologize to our great warriors, and everyone else!”

And that…

“FAKE NEWS REPORTERS FROM CNN & THE NEW YORK TIMES SHOULD BE FIRED, IMMEDIATELY!!! BAD PEOPLE WITH EVIL INTENTIONS!!!”

And in a major escalation of his insanity, with zero evidence, Trump fumed that…

“The Democrats are the ones who leaked the information on the PERFECT FLIGHT to the Nuclear Sites in Iran. They should be prosecuted!“

Former Fox News host Pete Hegseth, who is currently playacting as Trump’s Secretary of Defense, held a press scolding Thursday morning, wherein he whined about the media in a manner that would embarrass an eight year old. During that reality TV-style melodrama, Hegseth chastised his former Fox News colleague, Jennifer Griffin, who wasn’t havin’ his asininity. And he demonstrated his pitiful lack of historical knowledge of American warfare…

This is a great example of how everything in Trump world dials up the hyperbole to preposterous levels, where whatever Trump does is the BESTEST in the history of humanity!Hegseth apparently never heard of D-Day, or Hiroshima, or Desert Storm, or getting Osama bin Laden.

What Trump and his minions are making abundantly clear is that they do not want any credible journalism to be practiced in this country. They regard news reporting as unpatriotic if it isn’t gushing with praise for Trump. But nothing is more patriotic than reporters who speak truth to power.

Unfortunately, Trump’s hatred of the Constitution’s First Amendment is all too apparent in his attempts to get journalists fired when they are less than reverential supplicants to His MAGA-STY. Consequently, this country needs bold journalists now more than ever.

Trump Lashes Out at Democratic Women of Color as ‘Stupid’ Because They Dare to Defy Dear Leader

In the aftermath of Donald Trump’s bombing of Iran, there has been little to justify what was a dubiously sourced mission in the first place. His own Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, testified before Congress that there was no evidence that Iran was developing nuclear weapons. But Trump humiliated her and the broader intelligence community by declaring that they were all wrong.

You have to wonder where Trump was getting his information about Iran if it wasn’t from the intel professionals that worked for him. Nevertheless, he pulled out all the stops to glorify himself and his faulty decision making by dispatching the minions of his regime to the media in a futile effort to deceive the American people.

Trump himself was the Liar-in-Chief as he unloaded preposterous defenses of his military adventurism. For instance he falsely declared that Iran’s nuclear facilities were “obliterated” before there was any credible damage assessment. And he told reporters that the ceasefire between Israel and Iran was complete and would “go forever.” It didn’t last but a few hours.

On Tuesday morning Trump threw another infantile temper tantrum aimed at a trio of his sworn archenemies who just happen to all be Democratic women of color. The comment that he posted to his failing Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, maligned Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Jasmine Crockett, and Ilhan Omar, with puerile insults to their intelligence. Trump raged that…

“Stupid AOC, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, one of the ‘dumbest’ people in Congress, is now calling for my Impeachment, despite the fact that the Crooked and Corrupt Democrats have already done that twice before.”

Demeaning women of color as “stupid” is a regular part of Trump’s racist rhetoric. However, AOC is only calling for Trump to be impeached because he initiated a war without the consent of Congress as required by the Constitution. And his having been impeached twice before seems like a peculiar thing to remind everyone about in the wake of his new impeachable offenses. But Trump was only just getting started. He continued…

“When we examine [AOC’s] Test Scores, we will find out that she is NOT qualified for office but, nevertheless, far more qualified than [Jasmine] Crockett, who is a seriously Low IQ individual, or Ilhan Omar, who does nothing but complain about our Country. […] How dare ‘The Mouse’ tells us how to run the United States of America!”

Trump doesn’t mention what test scores he’s referring to. But he might want to stop threatening the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania to prevent them from releasing his grades. Let’s have some of that transparency that he likes to yammer about.

Although Trump did use this part of his comment to add Crockett and Omar to his hate post. It is no coincidence that all of his targets are women of color. He has exhibited this rancid racism innumerable times before. Often with journalists such as Yamiche Alcindor, Abby Phillip, and April Ryan. And let’s not forget that he said the same things about Kamala Harris. They just all happen to be stupid women in his eyes. Then he went further saying that…

“AOC should be forced to take the Cognitive Test that I just completed at Walter Reed Medical Center, as part of my Physical. As the Doctor in charge said, ‘President Trump ACED it,’ meaning, I got every answer right.”

Trump keeps repeating this lie about having “aced” a cognitive test. It was actually just a test to ascertain any early signs cognitive illness, wherein he was asked to perform simple functions such as counting backwards and identifying an elephant. The fact that he’s so proud of having succeeded in that is itself cause to worry about his mental acuity.

Trump closed with a challenge to “go ahead and try Impeaching me, again, MAKE MY DAY!” That’s a challenge that Democrats must accept. The case against him is extraordinarily strong.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean that Republicans in the Senate will vote in accordance with the law and the Constitution. They still seem to be too enrapt in the cult sway of Trumpism. But the effort is necessary regardless. If only to insure that there is a historical record of Trump’s malfeasance in office.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom Spells Out the Imminent Threat that Trump Represents, and the Solution

Trump’s orders, that violate both civil law and the Constitution, are further evidence of his craving to impose an authoritarian dictatorship in the United States, with him as the unchallenged and unchallengeable tyrant reigning over the demolition of democracy. He has lied repeatedly about the situation on the ground in L.A., claiming that the city was on fire and would be “completely obliterated” if not for him. And he has maligned the leadership of its Democratic Mayor and Governor who were competently dealing with the protests. Trump even endorsed arresting Gov. Newsom.

Newsom’s speech (video below) was an inspiring rebuttal to Trump’s seething hatefulness, ignorance, and anti-Americanism. What follows is a part of the speech that spelled out some of Trump’s most egregiously abhorrent actions, along with the solution. Some highlighting was added, but no further commentary, because Newsom says it all pretty damn well.

“This is a president who, in just over 140 days, has fired government watchdogs that could hold him accountable, accountable for corruption and fraud. He’s declared a war, a war on culture, on history, on science, on knowledge itself. Databases quite literally are vanishing.

“He’s delegitimizing news organizations and he’s assaulting the First Amendment, and the threat of defunding them. At threat, he’s dictating what universities themselves can teach. He’s targeting law firms and the judicial branch that are the foundations of an orderly and civil society. He’s calling for a sitting governor to be arrested for no other reason than to, in his own words, ‘for getting elected.’

“And we all know, this Saturday, he’s ordering our American heroes, the United States military, and forcing them to put on a vulgar display to celebrate his birthday, just as other failed dictators have done in the past.

“Look, this isn’t just about protests here in Los Angeles. When Donald Trump sought blanket authority to commandeer the National Guard. he made that order apply to every state in this nation. This is about all of us. This is about you. California may be first, but it clearly will not end here. Other states are next. Democracy is next. Democracy is under assault right before our eyes.

“This moment we have feared has arrived. He’s taking a wrecking ball, a wrecking ball to our founding fathers’ historic project: three co-equal branches of independent government. There are no longer any checks and balances. Congress is nowhere to be found. Speaker Johnson has completely abdicated that responsibility.

“The rule of law has increasingly been given way to the rule of Don. The founding fathers didn’t live and die to see this kind of moment. It’s time for all of us to stand up. […]

“I know many of you are feeling deep anxiety, stress, and fear. But I want you to know that you are the antidote to that fear and that anxiety. What Donald Trump wants most is your fealty, your silence, to be complicit in this moment. Do not give into him.”

Trump’s Defense Secretary, Pete Hegseth, Tries and Fails to Justify Trump’s War on Los Angeles

From the day that Donald Trump first nominated Pete Hegseth to serve as his Secretary of Defense, it was widely viewed as a dangerously inappropriate proposal to elevate a completely unqualified Fox News weekend host with a history of abusing both alcohol and women.

Hegseth’s experience for the job that Trump sought to give him was his junior officer ranking in the Army twenty years ago, and his management of two military related non-profits that both fired him for his incompetence and malfeasance. But he met Trump’s prerequisites, which were that he would do or say anything that Trump told him without regard to the truth or the welfare of the nation, and that he looked good on TV.

Following Trump’s declaration of war against the City of Los Angeles, Hegseth appeared before the Defense Subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee. His testimony was about as rife with ignorance and dereliction as one would expect from such an unfit official. He came utterly unprepared for the inquiry that he knew he would face. That includes not having any data regarding the Pentagon’s budget proposal that the Appropriations Committee was expecting.

To make matters worse, Hegseth was also stumped by questions he should have anticipated. Particularly those about Trump’s unlawful deployment of National Guard troops and Marines in response to an overwhelmingly peaceful protest against the hostile excesses of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) in Los Angeles. And in an exchange with Rep. Pete Aguilar, Hegseth provided a chilling demonstration of just how clueless he is about his duties…

Rep. Aguilar: The legal basis that the president used cites three examples in circumstances for the Guard. Invasion by a foreign nation; a rebellion or dangerous rebellion against the authority of the government of the United States; or the president is unable with regular forces to execute the laws of the United States. Which authority is triggered here to justify the use?
Hegseth: I don’t know. You just read it yourself, and people can listen themselves. But it sounds like all three to me.

REALLY? Let’s examine these one at a time, shall we?

Invasion By a Foreign Nation:
There is no evidence whatsoever that any foreign nation had invaded the United States. Hegseth mentioned the presence of some Mexican flags, but that does not infer that the government of Mexico had anything to do with the protests, and they certainly did not. There were no Mexican troops or military assets deployed to take over the U.S. The notion is downright preposterous.

A Rebellion Against the Authority of the Government of the United States:
None of the protesters came anywhere near attempting to usurp the authority of the U.S. government. They were merely exercising their rights as stated in the First Amendment to the Constitution to “petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” Which can only be seen as a rebellion by the tyrannical tendencies of the Trump administration, where Trump regards anything critical of him as treason.

The President is Unable With Regular Forces to Execute the Laws of the United States.
The leadership provided by the Mayor of the City of Los Angeles, Karen Bass, and the Governor of California, Gavin Newsom, were more than sufficient to deal with the sometimes rowdy behavior of a few protesters. If Trump was invoking this excuse for his military incursion, than he was, in effect, conceding that he was the one who was unable to execute the laws that he swore to uphold. Which shouldn’t surprise anyone, considering that he literally admitted that he doesn’t believe he has any obligation to do so.

Later in his testimony, Hegseth was asked about the costs associated with the deployment of troops to clamp down on the people’s right to protest. He tried to dodge the question, but was pressed on it until he finally allowed an aide to provide the answer…

“After persistent questioning about the cost of sending National Guard members and Marines to Los Angeles in response to protests over immigration raids, Hegseth turned to his acting comptroller, Bryn Woollacott MacDonnell, who said it would cost $134 million.”

With that amount of money, we could house and feed more than 4,000 homeless veterans for a year. We could provide more than 9,000 veterans with healthcare for a year. Or we could oppress and intimidate a few hundred advocates for migrants’ civil rights for a month. Spending money on this deployment is an even worse allocation of funds than Trump’s ludicrous and vain $45 million birthday parade that he’s throwing for himself in Washington, D.C. on Saturday. For which he is also threatening anyone who dares to protest it.

Hegseth is not the only member of Trump’s Quack Cabinet to malign the protesters in Los Angeles. His Homeland Security Secretary, Kristi Noem, also took a swipe at them and wound up hitting the entire population of the city, saying that L.A. “is not a city of Immigrants, it’s a city of criminals.” Really? All 4,000,000 of them?

However, the views of Noem and Hegseth are not shared by the American people. A new poll has found that “47% of U.S. adults disapprove of deploying the Marines to LA, with 34% approval…45% disapprove the National Guard deployment, while 38% said they approve.”

Not that Trump or his cronies care about what the American people think. But maybe this will get some Republicans in Congress to grow a spine and reject Trump’s totalitarianism. Keep hope alive.
