Trump’s Homeland Security Honcho Threatens to Arrest and Imprison Disobedient Election Officials

The authoritarian aspirations of Donald Trump have been well documented. He began by inciting a violent insurrection on January 6, 2021, to retain power after losing the election. Followed by his pardoning of the seditious traitors who stormed the Capitol and assaulted police officers.

Donald Trump calls for a "Unified Reich"

In the intervening years Trump has repeatedly demonstrated his ravenous hunger for power and his disrespect for the laws, including the Constitution, that was designed deliberately to limit it. He has assembled a Washington politburo that acquiesces to his every fascistic whim. Recently Trump lashed out at the media that he refers to in Stalinist terms as “the enemy of the people,” threatening to prohibit them from reporting honestly about him.

Stridently continuing to goosestep down this path, Trump’s newly installed secretary of Homeland Security, Markwayne Mullin, held a press conference wherein he delivered some of the most disturbingly fascist remarks of the Trump era. Mullin was reiterating Trump’s message from his televised infomercial for his “Save America Act” (aka Voter Suppression Act) when he responded to a question about how he would react if states declined to go along with Trump’s unconstitutional decrees. Mullin ranted that…

“If the states choose not to participate in securing the elections, we will make sure that we make those states a priority, to look at who voted in their states, and hold them – the election officials – accountable. If the election officials, once we gave them the information they need to secure their elections, and they chose not to, then those individuals can also be held accountable. By fines, by penalties, and even depending on how far it goes, prison time.”

Let’s break down that bucket of bullshittery. First of all, the Elections Clause of the Constitution (Article I, Section 4, Clause 1) mandates that “The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof.” The executive branch of the federal government has no role in it.

Therefore, neither Trump nor Mullin can “look at who voted,” or “hold election officials accountable,” whether or not they chose to comply with legally unenforceable demands by the occupant of the White House or his flunkies.

The fact that Mullin is publicly threatening election officials with severe penalties, including potentially imprisonment, is one of the clearest signs yet of Trump’s intention to undermine democracy, dismiss the results of future elections, and declare himself president for life.

The election securing measures that Mullin is referring to have no basis in the law. They would require states to turn over their voter registration rolls with data including the voters’ names, addresses, party preferences, etc. Trump says that he would use this data to identify illegally registered immigrants. But his prior attempts at this have proven to be extraordinarily unreliable. Thousands of allegedly illegal registrants were in fact naturalized citizens whose records weren’t up to date in the files that Trump used.

The result is that Trump would improperly invalidate thousands of valid voters. Which is also the purpose of his Voter Suppression Act. He knows that he can’t win a free and fair election, so he is resorting to shrinking the electorate, and intimidating the state personnel who actually make the elections free and fair.

It’s notable that Trump’s complaints about election security have been replete with allegations of interference from Russia and China. But the only people he is threatening to punish are Democrats, American election officials, and the free press. Russia and China apparently have some sort of immunity.

Trump is just so far off from any rational response to the phony election crisis that he invented that he posted the following bizarre comment on his dedicated propaganda platform, Truth Social, reiterating the nonsense that he dispensed in his Voter Suppression Act infomercial.

Who wants to tell Trump that…? The documents he released are not new.? He was president "during the 2020 election cycle."? There was no compromise of election data. Everything he refers to was publicly available.? Registering to vote is not a "nefarious activity."

He never lets his aversion to the Constitution’s protection of the free press get in the way of his exploitation of it. While he blames it for all of his problems, he also clings to positive news about himself, if he’s making it up…

Trump’s assault on the First Amendment has taken many disturbing forms. He frequently sues journalists and media companies as a means of punishing them for their honest reporting. And he orders his federal agencies to clamp down on companies that have the audacity to reveal his personal and professional flaws. Which is what just happened with his “Justice” Department issuing subpoenas to several New York Times reporters. As reported by the Times

“The Trump administration issued subpoenas on Friday to several journalists for The New York Times, after the news outlet reported this week on security concerns involving President Trump’s new Qatari-donated Air Force One. […] The subpoenas — which seek to force the reporters to testify before a federal grand jury in Manhattan on Wednesday — were an extraordinary escalation in President Trump’s efforts to threaten and intimidate independent news organizations.”

The Times noted that “the subpoenas contain few specifics,” other than demanding that the journalists testify before a Grand Jury “in regard to an alleged violation of federal criminal law” having something to do with a Times story about Trump departing Turkey on the “old” Air Force One because of “a security precaution at the urging of the Secret Service.”

Trump’s press office responded to the Times’story by insisting that it was false. It was, however, a legitimate story that exposed the carelessness of the Trump administration and it’s lack of concern for operational security. They claimed that Trump switched planes and diverted the new Qatari bribe jet to a military base in England because some soldiers there really wanted to see it (yeah, right).

Therefore, any allegation that the Times broke a law, or that the leaker did, is moot. You can’t be accused of leaking sensitive or classified information if what you wrote wasn’t actually sensitive or classified. And according to the Trump propaganda team it wasn’t. So either Trump and company are lying, or there was no violation of the law.

What’s more, the Times’ story was published after Trump switched to the properly secured Air Force One from the Qatari bribe jet, and was already safely at home. and you can’t be accused of endangering the president if what you wrote was published entirely after the fact, and there was no risk to the president.

To the contrary, the Times actually made the president safer by insuring that the Qatari jet would not be used by the president unless and until it is properly upgraded to Secret Service standards. Consequently, the Times responded to the subpoenas in a blunt statement by their attorney, David McCraw:

“The appearance of federal law enforcement agents on the doorstep of news reporters should shock the conscience of any American who believes in the Constitution and the press freedom it protects. Our journalists report the facts and advance the American public’s right to know how their government is operating and their taxpayer dollars are being used. This brazen act should be seen as nothing more than an attempt to prevent the public from knowing what is happening in their country by intimidating journalists from doing their jobs.”

The morning after this legal brouhaha Trump once again lashed out at the media. He posted a tediously long and incoherent comment on his dedicated propaganda platform, Truth Social, attacking New York Times reporters, Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan, in his typically infantile manner, saying in part that…

“Maggot Hagerman has covered me incorrectly for ten years. Her book is a joke! 90% of it is Fake News…Maggot is a loser! […] Anyway, don’t buy their book, it’s garbage!”

For the record, Haberman and Swan’s book “Regime Change” is currently #1 on Amazon. Trump went on in this comment to boast that he has “just finished a perfect physical at Walter Reed, I do it every six months, and I requested another Cognitive Test.” There are reasons that he needs to take annual physicals three or four times a year, along with repeated cognitive tests. Doctors wouldn’t do them if he wasn’t showing signs of mental impairment.

Trump followed up that comment with an even longer and less coherent harangue, whining about “The Failing New York Times,” along with the Wall Street Journal, MS NOW, CNN, ABC, CBS, and NBC. Adding that they should all just say that “We give up, we can’t beat him.” Which is wishful thinking on his part. He wouldn’t be freaking out this badly if he weren’t really afraid of losing the upcoming midterm elections and finding himself under investigation by Democrats in Congress who intend to hold him accountable for his multitude of crimes. for a change.

UPDATE: The Justice Department has withdrawn their bogus subpoenas in advance of the court ruling to quash them as violations of the Constitution’s First Amendment.

Herr Trump is Already Threatening to Defy the Supreme Court Ruling on Birthright Citizenship

At the close of the current session of the Supreme Court, the Justices have handed down a mixed bag of rulings that span a surprisingly diverse range of political opinion. Some will be celebrated by Republicans who share the conservative views of the Court’s majority, while others will provoke Donald Trump to throw childish tantrums, and perhaps portions of his lunch at the Oval Office walls.

Among the decisions that Democrats will appreciate are the one that upheld mail-in voting, which Trump delusionally regards as fraught with fraud; the one that let stand the $5 million defamation judgment against him by E. Jean Carroll, who Trump was found to have sexually abused; and the one that prohibited the president from firing Federal Reserve Commissioners without cause.

Conversely, Trump will applaud the Court’s rulings on allowing discrimination against transgender athletes, and the one that permits campaign corruption via unlimited donations and spending by political parties. Which is part of his mission to undermine democracy.

Perhaps the most galling decision from Trump’s point of view is the case wherein the Court upheld the Constitution’s grant of birthright citizenship. It ought to have been an easy decision since the 14th Amendment begins “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.” And yet three Justices (Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas, and Neil Gorsuch) voted to end the practice.

True to form, Trump was appalled. Shortly after the ruling was made public he posted comments on his failing Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, expressing his outrage, as well as his intention to ignore and defy the Court. He raged that…

“The Supreme Court upheld Birthright Citizenship, which is too bad for our Country, but we can easily make it up in Congress through Legislation, with the support of the President, that has now been determined during this process. No long and unwieldy Constitutional Amendment is necessary! Congress should start TODAY to work on ending expensive and unfair to our Country, Birthright Citizenship. They will have my Complete and Total Support!”

No one will be surprised by Trump’s defiance or his intention to recruit Congress for his criminal mission to undermine the law. However, Trump’s claim that “we can easily make it up in Congress through Legislation,” is wholly without legal justification.

Trump is latching onto a portion of Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s bizarre concurrence wherein he claimed that the only reason that Trump’s executive order revoking birthright citizenship was wrong was because it violated a federal law. Which is a little rotten Easter egg that Kavanaugh laid in order to give Trump a legal lifeline. But Kavanaugh must have missed the part of the 14th Amendment that said that legislation by Congress can only be used to “enforce the provisions” of the Amendment. Not to redefine them.

Trump’s assault on the ruling and the Justices continued in a subsequent comment where he sarcastically wrote that “I would like to congratulate President Xi, and the Great Country of China, on their massive Birthright Citizenship WIN!” But that was hardly the worst of his commentaries on this subject. In recent weeks he has been posting comments that illustrated his opposition to the Constitution. For instance…

  • April 1: “We are the only Country in the World STUPID enough to allow ‘Birthright’ Citizenship!” Which is false. More 30 countries have birthright citizenship.
  • May 24: “Birthright Citizenship is suicide for our Country!” Which is Trump’s repost of a comment by Mark Levin Of Fox News.
  • June 11: “The United States of America cannot live with the shackles of Birthright Citizenship.” Never mind that the nation has lived – and thrived – with it for 158 years.

We can expect more of this sort of madness from Trump going forward. He doesn’t care that he was firmly smacked down by the Court. Nor does he care about the welfare of the Americans whose citizenship he is trying to revoke. He only cares about advancing his prejudices and the bigotry of the MAGA cult that he leads. But he is going to learn the hard way that America does not share his hatred. Well, scratch that. He never really learns anything.

In a comment posted to his failing Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, Trump lauded himself for allegedly ending the careers of several of his archfoes, including Stephen Colbert. Trump bragged that…

“In the last two weeks I’ve taken out many bad Political ‘Leaders’ and Pundits including Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, Lightweight ‘Congressman’ Thomas Massie of Kentucky, Brad Raffensperger of Georgia, REALLY DUMB Stephen Colbert of CBS, and others.”

Whad'ya know? Trump is admitting he had a role in Stephen Colbert being canceled, something he previously denied, and CBS said was just a financial decision.Plus he says he's also going after the other late night hosts. And finally, he says this is how he is "working so hard for our country" ???

That’s right. Trump is taking credit for the cancellation of “DUMB” (with a “B”) Stephen Colbert. Which is peculiar because he has previously denied having much, if anything, to do with it. In a post on Truth Social in July of last year Trump claimed that Colbert was fired due to “lack of talent” and CBS’s unverified assertion that the number one rated show lost $50 million dollars a year…

“Everybody is saying that I was solely responsible for the firing of Stephen Colbert from CBS, Late Night. That is not true! The reason he was fired was a pure lack of TALENT, and the fact that this deficiency was costing CBS $50 Million Dollars a year in losses.”

Trump’s tirade also included a tribute to himself saying that “It is my Honor to be working so hard for our Country!” Exactly! Because, as everyone knows, canceling Colbert is the best way to lower costs for gas, and groceries, and housing, and healthcare.

And that’s on top of the many economic benefits that come from building vanity ballrooms, staging UFC fights at the White House, paying $1.8 billion to reward violent seditionists, minting $250.00 bills with Trump’s face on them, and, of course. starting wars against Middle East countries without any reason or exit strategy.

The worst part of this assumption of credit by Trump is that he is affirming his intention to do away with the free speech rights and press freedoms embedded in the First Amendment to the Constitution. He actually believes that he has the power to dictate what can or cannot be aired on television. And sadly, too many of the billionaires who own the media are all too willing to capitulate to him for fear and/or greed.

However, that weakness will only work for so long. And the time is coming when they will learn the hard way that capitulation not only feeds Trump’s hunger for power, it alienates audiences who will revolt against the traitorous complicity in the corporate media’s embrace of MAGA-style fascism.

ABC Accuses Trump’s Fascist Communications Commission (FCC) of Violating the First Amendment

The ongoing crusade by Donald Trump to erase all remnants of the Constitution, and particularly it’s First Amendment protections of freedom of the press, is perhaps the most prominent and dangerous feature of his MAGA cult movement. His authoritarian aspirations, and fear of the tenets of democracy, are the driving factors in his relentless pursuit of power.

To that end, Trump has been directing his Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to adopt profoundly disturbing new rules regarding “Equal Time” as a means to quash any criticism he receives on television from talk show hosts and their guests. His unambiguous aim is to assume total control over what the American people are permitted to see and hear on TV and other media.

The latest skirmish in Trump’s War on America comes from an unlikely combatant. ABC News, the producer of “The View” has announced that it is challenging the attempts by Trump’s FCC to dictate what they are allowed to say and who they are allowed to interview. This comes after Trump’s FCC Chairman, Brendan Carr, threatened the show and the network with revoking the licenses of their affiliate stations. According to the New York Times

“ABC has accused the Federal Communications Commission of violating its free speech rights, potentially setting the stage for a protracted, high-stakes legal battle between the network and the Trump administration.

“The company said in a filing with the agency that regulators had a ‘chilling effect’ on free speech by trying to punish political content they disagreed with. The filing, made public on Friday, is the most aggressive defense from any television network since President Trump kicked off an extended campaign last year to bring media organizations to heel.”

What makes ABC’s stance surprising is that they previously capitulated to Trump when he filed a meritless defamation lawless in December 2024. ABC agreed to settle for what amounts to a $15 million bribe in order to kiss up to the Tyrant-in-Chief.

The Equal Time rules have been in place for decades. And throughout that time there have been exceptions for bona fide newsworthy interviews. But Trump’s notoriously fragile ego has pushed him to take vengeance on his critics and to stifle them any way that he can. The intentions of Trump and his neo-fascist FCC are to smother his critics entirely. It is not by coincidence that the Trump regime isn’t going after any right-wing programs or other MAGA media.

Furthermore, their timing is conspicuously close to the midterm elections that Trump is terrified of losing. Those predicted losses will significantly diminish his power and make him vulnerable to real congressional oversight. And Trump will do anything to avoid being held accountable for his multitude of crimes. Including muzzling the free press in an egregious breach of the Constitution.

Pentagon Persists in Punishing Reporters After Court Ruling That It Violated the Constitution

Last year Trump had his Secretary of War Crimes, Pete Hegseth, throw reporters out of the Pentagon offices that they have used for decades. They decreed that “journalists must sign a pledge not to gather any information, including unclassified reports, that hasn’t been authorized for release.” Failure to obey would result in the revocation of their press credentials. That effectively transforms the Pentagon press corps into a group of doting White House stenographers. At first, even Trump opposed this blatant censorship, until someone explained to him what he really thought about it.

Most credible journalists refused to comply with the new edicts and were banished from the building. They were then replaced by glassy-eyed sycophants devoted to fluffing Trump and embracing everything he does and says as gospel. This week, however, a court ruled that the Pentagon’s new protocol violated the Constitution and it’s protection for a free press. As reported by the Guardian

“‘Those who drafted the first amendment believed that the nation’s security requires a free press and an informed people and that such security is endangered by governmental suppression of political speech,’ US district court judge Paul Friedman wrote in his opinion. ‘That principle has preserved the nation’s security for almost 250 years. It must not be abandoned now.'”

True to form, the Trump administration has chosen to defy the court ruling and double down on their unconstitutional behavior. Rather than simply return their press credentials and restore their access, the Pentagon chose to shut down the reporters’ offices entirely, and designate an off-site facility to house them. That is a direct rejection of the court ruling, and representatives of the journalists have vowed to return to court to challenge this obvious end-run around the law.

The strident efforts on the part of Trump and his minions to muzzle the media make one thing perfectly clear. They are scared witless of real news being reported and voters finding out all of the nefarious schemes that they are engaging in. The Trump regime is acting exactly like the totalitarian tyrants (Vladimir Putin, Kim Jong Un, Xi Jinping, etc.) that he idolizes and seeks to emulate.

By stomping his boot down on the press Trump is telling the American people that he is determined to abuse his power, to keep his secrets hidden, and to undermine the Constitution and democracy. And it is no coincidence that all of this is happening as he is embroiled in a scandal involving his best friend Jeffrey Epstein, as he is launching unprovoked and illegal wars, and as a critical election is coming up in a few short months.

Anyone who isn’t asking “What is he afraid of,” just wants to remain blissfully ignorant. Not to mention willfully enslaved by a dictator.

Wannabe Dictator Trump Signs Executive Order Mandating Army-Navy Football Game Schedules On TV

On Friday morning Trump held a ceremony at the White House to present the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy to the Navy football team for beating Army during their 2025 game. But true to form, Trump was unable to focus his attention on the matter at hand. He wandered around aimlessly whining about men in women’s sports, his alleged success in Iran, and how awesome he is at everything he ever does.

As part of the ceremony, Trump diverted from the honor that was supposed to be bestowed on the Naval Academy’s athletes, to put himself at the center of attention again. He announced that he was signing an Executive Order to dictate to the college football associations, and the television networks, what they should be allowed to do with regard to scheduling games and their broadcast times.

As usual, Trump was undeterred by the fact that he has no authority to interfere in those private enterprises. He even admitted as much saying that “I have much more power in my second term,” and acknowledging that he is likely going to be sued over this power play. He told those at the gathering that…

“I’m going to sign an executive order to ensure that the second Saturday in December, is preserved exclusively – nobody is playing football. […] If you don’t want to watch football, you don’t have to. But if you want to watch football, you are only watching one game.”

Trump might as well have continued “Do you hear that, you peasants. You’ll watch what I watch and do what I say at all times. Free enterprise is a thing of the past that only stupid and weak presidents adhere to.” And with that, Trump unveiled his completely unconstitutional Executive Order that mandated that “By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, it is hereby ordered [that]

Section 1. Purpose. It is the policy of the United States that no college football game, specifically college football’s CFP or other postseason games, be broadcast in a manner that directly conflicts with the Army-Navy Game.
[No president has the authority to mandate a policy that dictates the scheduling of college football games or their broadcasts on television. And the Army-Navy game is no exception.]

Sec. 2. Implementation. (a) The Secretary of Commerce and the Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) shall coordinate with the CFP Committee, the National Collegiate Athletic Association, related organizations, other appropriate Government agencies, and the playoffs’ broadcast and media rights partners with the goal of establishing an exclusive window for the Army-Navy Game, during which no other college football game is broadcast.
[The Commerce Secretary and FCC Chairman are not empowered to negotiate broadcast and media rights or to establish exclusive windows for the the Army-Navy Game, or any other games.]

(b) The Chairman of the FCC shall consider reviewing the public interest obligations of broadcast licensees to determine whether those obligations would require that the Army-Navy Game remain a national service event.
[This clause was included as a threat to the television networks that any disobedience could result in the revocation of their broadcast licenses for alleged failure to act in the public interest. Never mind that football games cannot reasonably be considered matters of public interest in this legal context.]

All of this is just another attempt on Trump’s part to interfere with the business of the media and quash freedom of the press. He is putting himself above the principles of the Constitution and pretending that it is all some sort of play for patriotism. Note that the players in the Army-Navy games are not active-duty enlisted soldiers. They are students in the military academies. And thus, for the purposes of these games, they are no different than the students in other sports programs at other colleges.

So why should they get special treatment? Because Trump demands it. And he thinks that he’s making a statement of support for the troops. Remember, those are the troops that he has called “suckers” and “losers,” and whose lives he is putting at risk for no discernible reason in Iran. But what matter is that to a five-time draft dodger like him? And you won’t see his son, Barron, enlisting for this supposedly noble cause either.

Donald Trump Walking the Plank

Trump’s recent impeachable escapades include his invasion of Venezuela, his investigation of Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, his illegal and inflationary tariffs, his targeting Democratic led states for funding cuts, his failing to release the Epstein files, his conducting business with foreign, adversarial governments, hid selling pardons, his suppressing free speech and the freedom of the press, and too many more to enumerate. It’s a record that illustrates just how dangerous he is to American national security.

On Sunday night Trump posted a comment on his failing Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, that may be his most blatant breach of presidential ethics yet, and poses a real question about whether he can continue to serve in the office of the presidency. What he posted was a graphic in which he declared himself to be the “Acting President of Venezuela.”

That declaration poses a troubling constitutional problem for Trump. Not that he cares. But Article I, Section 9, Clause 8, of the Constitution (within the Emoluments Clause) states that…

“No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States: And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State”.

By declaring himself the acting president of Venezuela, Trump is accepting a “Title” from a foreign state. That’s a crystal clear example of the sort of conflict of interest that the Founding Fathers sought to prohibit when they drafted the Constitution. Trump’s coronation of himself as Venezuela’s president implies accepting a foreign office “without the Consent of the Congress.” And accepting such a foreign role under those circumstances could make him constitutionally ineligible to continue in U.S. office.

The questions of where Trump’s loyalties lie are inescapable. He is already claiming to be taking over Venezuela’s oil industry and he posted that “This Oil will be sold at its Market Price, and that money will be controlled by me.” Which isn’t exactly a pledge of allegiance to America.

Technically the Emoluments Clause does not trigger an automatic removal from office. but it does present legitimate grounds for impeachment. Trump cannot reasonably perform the duties of the president of Venezuela while occupying the White House here at home. Hell, he can’t perform the duties of president of the United States even without the added burden of Venezuela.

Trump either needs to resign one of those offices, get an approval from Congress, or be removed involuntarily. The latter could be accomplished by either impeachment or the invocation of the 25th Amendment. But that would require a combination of courage and patriotism on the part of Congress. And that isn’t going to happen without pressure from the people. So once again, we are the ones we’ve been waiting for. 8647! NOW!

Trump Didn’t Notify Congress of His Venezuela Attack to Avoid Media Leaks – Then He Leaked It

There are many enemies plotting to destroy Donald Trump and his MAGA movement. At least in his sickly mind. That sort of paranoia frequently accompanies the symptoms of malignant narcissism that he clearly suffers from. It creates a psychotic loop of mental impairment that feeds on its own perversity.

Chief among Trump’s perceived enemies is the media. Although it’s a complex love/hate relationship wherein he despises the very same free press whose attention he lusts after. What he calls “the enemy of the people” is also his best friend. And he milks it relentlessly in a futile attempt to juice his standing in the polls.

In the latest episode of the daily Trump soap opera, “Days of Our Lies,” we find our star lashing out manically at those who he is convinced are fiendishly conspiring against him. Following his illegal attack on Venezuela, and the kidnapping of its nefarious and illegitimate head of state, Nicholas Maduro, Trump was asked by the press about why he failed to comply with the law that requires him to inform Congress and get their consent before conducting such an operation. He replied that “Congress has a tendency leak. This would not be good.”

First of all, there is zero evidence of any such tendency by Congress. Particularly the members of the “Gang of 8” leaders of relevant committees. And secondly, that wouldn’t be a valid reason to violate a law that is spelled out in the Constitution. If any president could simply ignore the Constitution simply by claiming that complying with it would be inconvenient, then what good would the Constitution be? “Sorry,” President Waterboard might say, “But if we don’t torture a confession out of that suspect he might not be convicted.”

What makes Trump’s remarks all the worse is that, after whining about leaks that didn’t happen he, or someone in his regime, actually leaked information about the Venezuela operation to the press. As reported by Semafor

“The New York Times and Washington Post learned of a secret US raid on Venezuela soon before it was scheduled to begin Friday night — but held off publishing what they knew to avoid endangering US troops, two people familiar with the communications between the administration and the news organizations said.

“The decisions in the New York and Washington newsrooms to maintain official secrecy is in keeping with longstanding American journalistic traditions.”

So the Trump regime told two national news organizations about the Venezuela mission in advance, but withheld that information from the people’s representatives in Congress, who he is required by law to tell. And they weren’t even news organizations that were predictably pro-Trump, such as Fox News or Newsmax. So why would he spill to the New York Times and the Washington Post? Perhaps to get some positive press in the aftermath of the attack. Semafor also noted that…

“Trump celebrated Maduro’s capture in a phone interview with The New York Times at 4:30 a.m. Saturday,” [and that] “the Washington Post editorial board came out strongly in favor of the move, praising the Trump administration’s decisiveness and declaring the move a ‘major victory for American interests.'”

That makes sense since Trump already knew that MAGA media like Fox News was already going to report nice things about anything he does. And while the Times and the Post have been trending rightward, they might be encouraged if he threw them a juicy scoop.

Trump’s Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, completed the contradictory stance by the Trumpists that the media couldn’t be trusted. In fact, he admitted that the media are trustworthy custodians of sensitive info. He told George Stephanopoulos of ABC’s This Week (another non-MAGA news outlet) that…

“Frankly, a number of media outlets had gotten leaks that this was coming and held it for that very reason. And we thank them for doing that or lives could’ve been lost.”

So not only are they not distrustful of the press, they are thanking the media for their integrity and patriotism. Which is a measure of respect that they wouldn’t afford to members of Congress, despite their legal obligations. Yet they will still bash the press and Congress because they believe it earns them political points to do so. And then they will do whatever the heck they want, because that’s how authoritarians roll.

UPDATE: Trump didn’t tell Congress about the attack on Venezuela, but he did tell the oil companies. So it really was all about oil after all. And that is, by definition, the behavior of a fascist oligarchy.

Trump Declares the New York Times a ‘Threat to National Security’ that ‘Must Be Stopped’

The seething animosity that Donald Trump has toward the free press and the Constitution’s First Amendment is well known and thoroughly documented. He regularly refers to the media in Stalinist terms as “the enemy of the people.” And even mild criticism is met with savage insults and ludicrous lawsuits intended to intimidate and silence anyone who dares to find fault with His MAGA-sty.

However, if you thought that Trump was satisfied with his constant barrage of vile invective, you are vastly underestimating his unquenchable capacity for deep seated loathing and voracious appetite for vengeance. There is nothing that triggers a Trump temper tantrum more than a news story that reveals his multitude of glaring flaws. He demands unflinching adoration at all times.

On Tuesday morning Trump escalated his war against the free press with a spine-chilling comment posted to his failing Twitter ripoff, Truth Social. The hostility in his most recent rhetoric should be of concern to every freedom loving American patriot who cherishes the Constitution and it’s protection of liberty. Trump raged in a late-night outburst against one of his perennial foes, the New York Times, over some unspecified offense to his massive, yet fragile ego…

“The Failing New York Times, and their lies and purposeful misrepresentations, is a serious threat to the National Security of our Nation. Their Radical Left, Unhinged Behavior, writing FAKE Articles and Opinions in a never ending way, must be dealt with and stopped. THEY ARE A TRUE ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE! Thank you for you attention to this matter. PRESIDENT DJT”

It’s impossible to decipher precisely what specific story set Trump off late last night. It could be related to the latest bombshell incriminations in the newly released Jeffrey Epstein files. Or he might be upset that the Times caught him napping during recent Cabinet meetings. Or maybe he’s whining about not being praised for having crashed the economy and making everything more expensive with his inflationary tariffs (aka taxes). Or perhaps people aren’t properly elated by his extrajudicial murders of possibly innocent people in small boats off the coast of Venezuela. There is just so much to choose from.

Trump may just be outraged by an all-of-the-above batch of reporting on atrocities for which he is responsible. In any event, he is embarking on a path of psychotic fury over what he claims – without any rational basis – are “FAKE Articles and Opinions.” Of course all articles and opinions are constitutionally protected, even if the subject of them disapproves. But since Trump doesn’t bother to cite any of these alleged misrepresentation, his claims can’t be confirmed or believed.

What’s even worse about this outburst is Trump’s allegation that the allegedly “Unhinged Behavior” of the Times is a “serious threat to the National Security of our Nation.” That’s the sort of language that Trump commonly unleashes to justify violent military assaults on whoever he is angry with at the moment.

Consequently, it’s fair to assume that he is craving an opportunity to treat the Times the same way he is treating the people in those boats in the Caribbean. After all, he used the very same language for both of these situations. Just one week ago he justified bombing those boats by asserting without evidence that they were transporting drugs, and that “drug trafficking cartels POSE A THREAT to U.S. National Security.” And now he’s saying that about the New York Times.

It is clear that Trump has descended into a state of schizoid delusion and is suffering from severe cognitive impairment. It is Trump who is the imminent danger to the national security of the United States. And he needs to be deprived of power before he causes real, irreparable harm. Whether his removal is done by Congress, his Cabinet, the judiciary, his doctors, or his family, it needs to be done. And soon!
