WTF? Trump’s FCC Expected to OK Paramount’s Takeover of CNN with BILLIONS of Middle East Dollars

The state of the media business has declined precipitously during the second occupation of the White House by Donald Trump. Either they have capitulated to his threats, lied to “sanewash” his incoherent babbling, soft-pedaled his autocratic policies, or just failed to demonstrate the courage that is expected from practitioners of a free press.

In short, the performance of much of the media amounts to simply cowardice. While there are some notable exceptions, the craven spinelessness, greed, and biases of most of the biggest media conglomerates is more than a little disturbing. Trump has been carefully studying the anti-democratic tactics of his tyrannical idols Vladimir Putin, Kim Jong Un, and Viktor Orbán. And the results are evident in recent interactions between the government agencies he presides over and his MAGA media pals.

For instance, Larry and David Ellison, the Trump-fluffing moguls who own Paramount Skydance, are now seeking to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery. They have already gotten some preliminary approvals from Trump, his Justice Department, and his Federal Trade Commission. And now they are seeking to get a green light from the Federal Communications Commission. As reported by the Hollywood Reporter…

“Paramount has asked the Federal Communications Commission to sign off on its equity investment from three prominent Middle East sovereign wealth funds that are backing the company’s $111 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery.”

Paramount is making a direct appeal to Trump flunky Brendan Carr, his FCC chair, to approve the deal for the merger, including $24 billion from “Saudi Arabia’s PIF (public investment fund), L’Imad, an Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund, and a Qatar Investment Authority fund.” And while they say that “the sovereign funds are only acquiring non-voting equity shares,” it would still be an unprecedented arrangement wherein these foreign investors would own 49.5% of the company.

Paramount says that “the Ellison family and RedBird will…be the sole owners of Class A Common Stock, representing 100% of the voting shares.” And they think that makes things better? It actually means that these politically biased billionaire pals of Trump will be the overlords of two prominent news networks, CBS and CNN, along with all of the other assets of the combined media empire.

There are legal obstacles to foreign individuals, businesses, or governments owning U.S. media companies. The law cites national security, propaganda or political influence, and media concentration, as issues impacting approval. Under normal circumstances it would be particularly concerning for Middle Eastern entities to own such large percentages of American media.

The potential for exploiting the platforms (both news and entertainment) is obvious and worrisome. Even limited to non-voting shares, they would have significant leverage by simply threatening to sell shares, maneuvering their own competing platforms, or bailing out entirely.

Anyone who thinks that investors who own nearly half of the company wouldn’t be able to influence the company’s decisions is terminally naïve. And if those investors also happen to be tight with the U.S. administration, it just makes the potential for risk even greater.

There is literally no limit to the nefarious financial and national security mischief that they could engage in. And Trump’s Justice Department and other oversight agencies would be useless. Trump has already cleansed them of any ethical operatives. His administration, and Trump himself, would be no deterrent at all. In fact, the record shows that he would be an accomplice.

Trump-Fluffing Media Mogul is Hosting a ‘Tribute’ Dinner for Anti-Media, Wannabe Dictator Trump

The seething animosity that Donald Trump fosters for the free press has been a defining characteristic of his warped, anti-democratic persona for as long as he has been in public life. He even published an anti-media page on the White House website. Ironically, he has also had an enduring dependency on the very same press for the constant attention he craves and that fuels his massive yet fragile ego.

In a shameless attempt to kiss the…let’s say ring…of Herr Trump, billionaire media mogul and CEO of the Paramount Skydance conglomerate (which owns CBS), David Ellison, will be hosting a dinner Friday night to pay tribute to Trump for rolling over so compliantly and approving Ellison’s bid to takeover Warner Bros. Discovery (which owns CNN). Ellison has previously “paid” tribute to Trump in the form of millions of dollars in bribes to grease the wheels of his merger bid.

Now, on the eve of the White House Correspondents’ Association’s annual gala, Ellison is fluffing Trump and his ego once again. As reported by Variety…

“David Ellison, whose Paramount Skydance is awaiting closure of its massive deal to swallow up Warner Bros. Discovery, will host an invitation-only dinner next week ‘honoring’ President Donald Trump and CBS News’ White House correspondents, Variety has confirmed.

The event will take place in Washington, D.C., on April 23, two days before the annual White House Correspondents’ Association dinner on Saturday, April 25. The Ellison-hosted function will be held at the United States Institute of Peace in Washington, which the State Department in December 2025 announced was being renamed ‘The Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace.'”

The optics of this tribute dinner couldn’t be more disturbing. Ellison is brazenly exhibiting his bias for Trump and his MAGA cult movement. That bias has already been evident in the reporting by CBS, where its 60 Minutes program interfered with segments that were critical of Trump. What’s more, CBS has invited Trump’s Secretary of War Crimes, Pete Hegseth, and Senior Neo-Fascist, Stephen Miller, to be their guests at the WHCA’s dinner on Saturday.

How can anyone take seriously any dedication to honest, unbiased reporting by an organization displaying this much blatant political favoritism? It is also notable that while Ellison has plenty of time to suck up to Trump with patronizing dinners, he was unable to make time to appear before a congressional hearing probing Paramount’s efforts to acquire Warner Bros Discovery, that has numerous potential anti-trust violations.

Meanwhile, Ellison’s aspirations for autocratic media dominance are not a done deal. California Attorney General Rob Bonta will be conducting a “vigorous” review of Paramount’s pending acquisition. There will be similar reviews by legal authorities in other states, as well as internationally.

So the Trump regime’s takeover of the free press will be facing significant obstacles. And in the end they will have succeeded only in severely degrading the public’s trust in the institutions that align with Trump.

Trump Blames Himself for His Iran War Fiasco, and Brags About Hate-Watching Lots of ‘FAKE NEWS’

When Donald Trump launched his war against Iran he promised that it would be won easily and quickly. He claimed to have achieved victory just a few hours after it began. Then he claimed victory again and again and again, every couple of days for the past seven weeks. And after each declaration he resumed offensive military operations against the country he claimed to have already defeated.

Somehow Trump keeps prosecuting this war, and even escalating it to include more troop deployments and psychopathically genocidal threats against the civilian population of Iran, who he has said he is trying to liberate.

In the process, Trump’s massive yet fragile ego was hurt by the analysis of Middle East experts who have concluded that he launched his war against Iran at the behest of Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, So Trump posted a comment on his dedicated propaganda platform, Truth Social, to deny that Netanyahu had anything to do with the decision to go to war, and was it was all Trump’s idea. But as usual, he expects everyone to just take his word for it, despite his rock solid reputation as a pathological liar. Trump raged that…

“Israel never talked me into the war with Iran, the results of Oct. 7th, added to my lifelong opinion that IRAN CAN NEVER HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON, did.”

So Trump is taking full responsibility for the fiasco in Iran. That’s big of him. But he wants people to believe that he started the war because of the terrorist attack in Israel on October 7, 2023, by Hamas. Trump’s story is that he is now leading the United States to retaliate against Iran for something that Hamas did three years ago to Israelis.

Therefore, the U.S. is just defending the interests of Israel, and Netanyahu had nothing to do with it? Too bad Trump won’t do that for Ukraine, where Russia has killed tens of thousands more innocent civilians. But then he would have to defy his idol and mentor, Vladimir Putin. That’s not gonna happen.

Trump, however. was just getting started. His post went on to complain about the free press who have been doing their job reporting on the war and Trump’s maze of explanations and excuses for it. According to Trump…

“I watch and read the FAKE NEWS Pundits and Polls in total disbelief. 90% of what they say are lies and made up stories, and the polls are rigged, much as the 2020 Presidential Election was rigged.”

REALLY? So Trump spends quite a bit of his time perusing the media that he holds in contempt and regularly maligns as “the enemy of the people.” And in his warped opinion the vast majority of what is reported (90%) “are lies and made up stories.” But he keeps watching and reading it anyway? He is particularly disturbed by the polls that currently show him in record low territory. Even his Ministry of Propaganda, Fox News…

Despite the accuracy of the bleak reporting and dismal surveys, Trump continues trying to deceive Americans that the news is all good. He insists that “the results in Iran will be amazing” and that he will prevail with the help of “Iran’s new leaders (Regime Change!).” Never mind the new Ayatollah is the even more radical son of the old Ayatollah, and that the same Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is running the country.

No one knows how long these hostilities will continue. But it’s safe to say that Trump’s lies will persist for as long he presents some semblance of cognitive functionality. Which by all available indications, won’t be for very much longer.

Trump-Backed Media Merger Blocked By Federal Court, Ruling that it Would Violate Antitrust Laws

The consolidation of giant media conglomerates has produced a handful of monopolistic corporations that are mostly run by right-wing billionaires. Oligarchs like Rupert Murdoch and David Ellison wield enormous influence while sucking up to their White House benefactor, Donald Trump, for regulatory favors.

Among the recent mergers on the media’s calendar is one between two television station groups that each own dozens of stations nationwide. Nexstar and Tegna agreed to merge earlier this year after getting a rubber stamp approval by the Trump administration, with Trump’s personal assistance. It’s the sort of totalitarian domination that dictators like Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un enjoy, and that Trump envies and seeks to emulate.

However, the Nexstar-Tegna merger that Trump sought to steamroll into place has run into some turbulence. A group of state Attorneys General filed a lawsuit to quash the merger, and they have just received a favorable court ruling that stops it in its tracks. As reported by NPR…

“A federal judge has blocked local TV giant Nexstar’s takeover of a leading rival, Tegna, until an antitrust trial plays out. If Nexstar loses, it could be compelled to unwind the $6.2 billion deal, in which it absorbed 65 additional stations.”

NPR elaborated saying that if the merger were to go through, Nexstar would wind up owning…

“…265 local stations in 44 states and the District of Columbia, reaching 80% of the nation’s households. Those are all unprecedented figures. Federal competition law limits companies to less than half that level [39%].”

The prospect of yet another massive megalith controlling that much of the mediasphere is more than a little troubling to anyone who cherishes the free press. Particularly if the merger is in violation of the law. And there is no mistaking Nexstar’s political leanings. They were the first station group to take Jimmy Kimmel off the air after he made a couple of harmless jokes about news coverage of Charlie Kirk.

For his part, Trump weighed in on both sides of the merger debate. On November 23, 2025, he posted a comment expressing his opposition to the merger on his failing Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, saying “If this would also allow the Radical Left Networks to “enlarge,” I would not be happy…If anything, make them SMALLER!” But more recently, on February 7, 2026, he posted a supportive comment saying “We need more competition against THE ENEMY, the Fake News National TV Networks.”

Trump’s waffling on the merger is typical of his inability to form a coherent position on anything. He often just rides with whatever he was told last by one of his flunkies. In this case he also chose to fulfill the wishes of arch-conservative moguls who have funneled funds into his various scams.

Meanwhile, state AGs are also closely examining Paramount’s pending acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, which includes CNN. Hopefully that will be the next monopolistic mega-merger to collapse.

Pete Hegseth Likens Trump to Jesus Performing Miracles, and the Media as Unpatriotic Pharisees

This week Donald Trump openly expressed his delusional vision of himself in a meme posted to his dedicated propaganda platform, Truth Social, as a Jesus-like figure using his divine healing powers to cure a bedridden man. It was a depiction so offensive that he was eventually persuaded to delete it.

However, Trump’s meme deletion didn’t extend to his still flaming megalomania. He later posted another picture of himself with Jesus putting his arm around him, as if they had the same close friendship that Trump had with Jeffrey Epstein. Trump also lashed at out Pope Leo for daring to take a position against war and the killing of innocents. Then he sent his FCC chairman, Brendan Carr, out to deliver another punch to the Pope…

On Thursday morning, Trump’s Secretary of War Crimes, Pete Hegseth, joined in the spiritual spat at a press conference on the Iran war to update the MAGA media hacks that Hegseth permits to attend these pseudo-news charades. At one point Hegseth interrupted himself to go on a bender about the media that he despises and can’t stop complaining about. He whined…

“To the American media, I just can’t help but notice the endless stream of garbage, the relentlessly negative coverage you cannot resist peddling, despite the historic and important success of this effort and the success of our troops. Sometimes it’s hard to figure out what side some of you are actually on. It’s incredibly unpatriotic.”

It sounds like Hegseth spends way too much time watching television. And his viewing habits seem to consist mainly of hate-watching news programs that aren’t wholly worshipful of Trump. Plus, he seems to think that it is unpatriotic to report the truth and that the press is supposed to be uncritical of Dear Leader. Perhaps he would be more comfortable with the media in North Korea. But he was just getting started. He continued with a retelling of a biblical story that he allegedly heard in church on Sunday, saying that…

“Jesus entered a synagogue and healed a man with a withered hand. The Pharisees came to watch…they witnessed a literal miracle. It didn’t matter to them. They were only there to explain away the goodness in pursuit of their agenda…Our press are like these Pharisees.”

So in Hegseth’s mind Trump is Jesus, and his illegal war against Iran is a miracle of healing? Hegseth is using a biblical story to justify Trump’s massacre of Iranian civilians. And in the process he characterizes the media as unpatriotic hypocrites trying to destroy his messiah.

Hegseth isn’t helping to dismiss the implications of Trump posting that deranged meme of him as Jesus. And it’s awkward that he uses an analogy that features a man with a withered hand, considering the gross deformations of Trump’s hand.

It just proves that the messiah complex that Trump suffers from is spreading to his cult disciples. They all see him as an infallible prophet of the divine. He can do wrong. Never mind his multiple divorces, serial infidelity, adjudication as a rapist, affinity for pedophiles, dozens of sexual abuse victims, and myriad other immoralities including criminal fraud, and breach of constitutional laws.

All of that is forgiven because that’s what they do in cults. And Hegseth is desperately striving to be recognized as Trump’s most faithful devotee. To that end, Hegseth issued a warped biblical warning that had a familiar ring to it…

The White House Correspondents Association Awards Are Gonna Really Piss Trump Off

It’s an event that mixes politics, news, and entertainment. The audience is mostly reporters who cover the White House and Donald Trump, along with their sometimes odd guests.

Each year a there is a guest MC who, in the past, has been a professional comedian. Last year the comedian, Amber Ruffin, was axed after Trump threw a tantrum. This year, it will be hypnotist, Oz Pearlman. Read into that what you will. This will also be the first year that Trump has attended the event as president. In his five previous opportunities he was too afraid of facing the humor that is commonly part of the festivities.

With Trump’s attendance at the dinner he is expected to give a speech. It will be interesting to hear his predictably hostile remarks before the audience of journalists that he frequently refers to as “the enemy of the people.” He is also likely going to be subjected to some good natured criticism in remarks by some of the other speakers. But he is notoriously incapable of tolerating any criticism of any kind. So expect to see video of him scowling much of the time. Which will be especially true when the WHCA is handing its annual awards for excellence.

The WHCA has announced the winners of these awards. and they are not going to make Trump very happy. According to the WHCA press release…

THE KATHARINE GRAHAM AWARD FOR COURAGE AND ACCOUNTABILITY: The Wall Street Journal:
“Jeffrey Epstein’s Friends Sent Him Bawdy Letters for a 50th. Birthday Album. One Was From Donald Trump. The leather-bound book was compiled by Ghislaine Maxwell. The president says the letter ‘is a fake thing.’”

It is customary for the president to present some these awards. But it is difficult to imagine Trump doing so considering the recipients and the subject matter of their winning stories. At least not without Trump making some idiotic and infantile insults in the process. Which is all we can expect from him.

Trump’s Lawsuit Against the Wall Street Journal for Reporting on Him and Epstein is Thrown Out

The competition for “Most Litigious President” has long been decided with Donald Trump coming in at the head of the pack by insurmountable margins. Trump is well known to sue anyone or anything that dares to tell the truth about him, or pursues a policy path that he disagrees with.

The list of Trump’s legal victims includes politicians, universities, government agencies, legal firms, and perhaps more than anything else, media and journalists. Suing the media is one of the methods that Trump regularly employs to intimidate the free press, and/or to exact retribution on them for doing their job. And if Trump can’t muzzle the media, he will simply banish them.

Fortunately, there is still some measure of integrity within the American judicial system. And Trump’s batting average with his loopy lawsuits is pitifully low. The most recent example of this is a suit that Trump filed last year against the Wall Street Journal over a well documented and sourced story concerning Trump’s unsavory relationship with child sex trafficker and pedophile, Jeffrey Epstein. As reported by NBC News…

“A federal judge in Florida on Monday dismissed President Donald Trump’s $10 billion defamation lawsuit against The Wall Street Journal over a story on a bawdy 50th birthday card he allegedly sent to Jeffrey Epstein. U.S. District Judge Darrin Gayles tossed the case after finding Trump’s suit “comes nowhere close” to reaching the standard of actual malice.”

Trump’s lawsuit was utterly meritless from the start. Particularly the claim of $10 billion in damages. The birthday card, that Trump said didn’t exist, was later provided to Congress by the Epstein estate. In addition to his birthday greetings, Trump expressed his hopes for his good friend that “may every day be another wonderful secret.” Which is ultra creepy given everything we know now about Epstein and Trump.

Trump has already said that he plans to refile the suit. But his record of success in these matters should have persuaded him to let it go. Here are just a few of the outcomes of some earlier lawsuits…

  • A case against CNN for reporting about his “Big Lie” that he won the 2020 election was dismissed.
  • A case against Harvard University, who prevailed in litigation against Trump when he tried to withhold federal grants.
  • Harvard also won when Trump tried to block the enrollment of international students.
  • Several law firms won temporary restraining orders prohibiting Trump from punishing them for engaging in litigation against him.
  • Journalist Bob Woodward beat him in a suit where Trump sought to prohibit him from using audio tapes recorded during an interview.
  • A case against Hillary Clinton alleging that she lied in her campaign against him in 2016. Trump was ordered to pay Clinton nearly $1 million for legal fees.
  • And writer E. Jean Carroll scored about $90 million in a judgment against Trump for defamation in a suit involving his sexual abuse of her in a department store dressing room.

The Wall Street Journal was right to fight Trump’s legal harassment. The lesson that other victims should take from this is that if you fight Trump, you’re likely to win. Capitulating will get you nothing but more harassment, while exposing your weakness to Trump who will surely exploit it. And beating Trump’s malicious lawsuits has the added benefit of preserving the integrity of the defendant and gaining the respect of the nation.

The record of flagrant lying by Donald Trump has been well documented over the years. During his first occupation of the White House the Washington Post compiled more than 30,000 lies told by Trump in four years. Since his return to power he has exponentially increased that number.

Trump Lies

Trump appears determined to set new records in his second term. Not just for the quantity of lies, but also for the vast distant between his lying and reality. In recent days Trump has claimed that he won his illegal war with Iran weeks ago, despite continuing to fight it. He claims that the economy that he wrecked is the best ever. He brags that he has the highest approval ratings of any president. But even his Ministry of Propaganda, Fox News, isn’t buying most of that.

On Friday Trump’s chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Brendan Carr, was on the podcast of Benny Johnson, an ultra rightist Trump-fluffer who is known to have been paid by Russian propaganda outlets. In the course of their discussion Carr, revealed some startling news about Pope Leo XIV…

“Today, I saw the Vatican called out U.S. news outlets for being fake news for running a false story about a Department of War meme. Even the Pope is calling out America’s fake news! This all flows from President Trump.”

First of all, it needs to be pointed out how ridiculous it is for Carr to be complaining about “fake news” as a guest on the podcast of a Kremlin stooge. And there is only one news network that was forced to pay nearly a billion dollars for lying – that’s Fox News.

More to the point, Carr is brazenly lying about what he claims that the Pope said. There is no evidence that the Pope “called out U.S. news outlets” regarding any memes referencing the Department of Defense (For the Record: There is no such thing as the Department of War). Carr’s claim that “the Pope is calling out America’s fake news” is itself fake news. It never happened, and Carr didn’t bother to cite his alleged source.

That’s not to say that the Pope has never spoken about the media. He has. But in a measured way that encompassed all of it without any partisan leanings. For instance, the Pope recently said that…

“Often, the proclamation of truth is obscured by what we today call “fake news” — lies, insinuations, and unfounded accusations. Yet, in the face of such obstacles, the truth does not remain hidden; rather, it comes forth to meet us, living and radiant, illuminating even the deepest darkness.”

Notice that there is no mention of American media or the Department of Defense in the Pope’s remarks. He is criticizing the broader, worldwide media environment, and advocating for greater attention to be paid to truth finding. Carr made up the rest. And he is using the Pope as a prop to advance his dishonest attacks on the free press. Instead, Carr ignores the Pope’s sharp criticisms of the corporate monoliths that control so much of the media, and that are run by Trump’s billionaire buddies. Such as when…

“…he warned about the danger of having a ‘handful of companies’ be in control of so much data and be able to ‘subtly influence behavior and even rewrite human history.'” […]

“Media and communication companies cannot allow algorithms designed to win the battle for a few extra seconds of attention at any cost to prevail over their professional values, which are aimed at seeking the truth.”

That said, Carr deserves some credit for admitting that “This all flows from President Trump.” Indeed it does. The Lyin’ King is the role model for the deceitful behavior of his flunkies. They follow his lead to lie shamelessly at every opportunity. But that can’t go on for long. So they should heed the the Pope’s warning that “the truth does not remain hidden.” In a very real sense, the truth is Trump’s enemy.

Trump Lies and Threatens CNN Over a Story He Falsely Claims Was Fake News From Nigeria About Iran

Now that Trump has claimed victory over Iran – after repeatedly claiming imaginary victories in the past six weeks – he is bragging about how masterful his negotiating skills are that led to this outcome. Never mind that the alleged ceasefire that Trump is touting is already reported to have been broken, and that few if any of his demands have been met.

True to form, Trump is laser focused on on the facade of leadership that he seeks to present. He has always been more interested in appearances than substantive results. And to that end, he is reverting to his standard operating procedure of bashing the free press should they report anything about him that is less than gushingly adoring. In his diseased mind, he must be worshiped at all times, and at all costs…

The ceasefire deal that Trump claims to have struck will supposedly reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which was already open before the reckless and illegal war that he started. Only now it will be controlled by Iran who will be charging fees to pass through it. Iran will also get sanctions relief in this deal, and their oil will be selling for much more on the global markets. And all it cost the United States was a few billion dollars and thousands of innocent Iranian lives, as well as thirteen American troops.

Trump proudly posted a comment announcing the deal on his dedicated propaganda platform, Truth Social, saying that, subject to Iran agreeing, he would “suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks.” Because everything that Trump does happens (or more accurately, doesn’t happen) in a two week span, from revealing his healthcare plan to releasing the Epstein files. This time he’s reneging his prior promise that “A whole civilization will die tonight.”

Then, in pursuit of more surface level adulation, Trump lashed out at CNN for publishing a story about the ceasefire. Naturally, Trump’s position contained an abundance of anger and a litany of lies. He wrote that “The alleged Statement put out by CNN World News is a FRAUD,” and made a bizarre charge, without any evidence, that “The false Statement was linked to a Fake News site (from Nigeria).” But then he elaborated with an overt, albeit impotent, threat…

“Authorities are looking to determine whether or not a crime was committed on the issuance of the Fake CNN World Statement, or was it a sick rogue player? CNN is being ordered to immediately withdraw this Statement with full apologies for their, as usual, terrible ‘reporting.’ Results of the investigation will be announced in the near future. President DONALD J. TRUMP”

So Trump is seeking to criminally prosecute CNN for publishing a story that he doesn’t like. And furthermore, he is “ordering” them to retract the story and apologize to him. That is the tyrannical behavior of a confirmed fascist who thinks that he has the right to dominate the press. Which is nothing new for Trump.

For the record, CNN is standing by their story. They claim that it is well sourced and accurate. As reported by Deadline…

“CNN is defending its reporting on the statement. A spokesperson said, ‘The statement in question was obtained by CNN from Iranian officials and reported on multiple Iranian state media outlets. We received the statement from specific official Iranian spokespeople who are known to us.'”

To make matters worse, Trump’s FCC boss, Brendan Carr, joined in the attack on CNN. Without conducting any investigation or research, Carr charged that CNN’s conduct was “outrageous,” and that they were “pushing out a hoax headline,” and that “this requires accountability.”

So Carr is also threatening CNN, even though he has no authority over cable news networks. He closed with an ominous taunt that it is “Time for change at CNN.” [Note: Trump’s billionaire pals David and Larry Ellison are in the process of acquiring Warner Bros/Discovery, which also owns CNN]

This sort of government bullying of the media is what you might expect to see in dictatorships like Russia and North Korea. But considering that those countries are run by Trump’s idols and mentors, Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that he is emulating their totalitarian tactics. Hopefully, he will be stopped by a new Democratic Congress and the American people who cherish freedom.

MEDIA MATTERS: There’s No Ratings Bump for MAGA Media Capitulation

From the outset of the reoccupation of the White House by Donald Trump, much of the mainstream media seemed to have concluded that it would be in their best interest to shamelessly kiss his…let’s say ring, in order to be rewarded with some sort of presidential gratuity. It turns out that that wasn’t a particularly smart move.

Donald Trump on CBS News (See BS)

Trump’s diseased personality has long been observed to combine the worst aspects of cowardice and bullyism. He exhibits the classic behavior of a malignant narcissist. Thus, he is known to rely on pitiful whining and rhetorical intimidation to get what he wants. Unfortunately, there are too many weaklings in the media business who will succumb to that sort of coercive abuse. And one of those media companies is the Paramount conglomerate that owns CBS News.

Paramount is not alone in paying off Trump’s extortion. ABC News did the same thing. As have others in academia and law firms. They were all seeking to gain some sort of business or regulatory benefit for their ransom. However, Media Matters has noticed that a different anticipated benefit that CBS might have expected never actually materialized.

The article was headlined “Legacy outlets that bent the knee to Trump haven’t just lost credibility — they’re bleeding readers and viewers.” And in the article they wrote of the “cheers from Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth for making the network more palatable to their aims.” The article elaborated that Trump’s billionaire buddies who own Paramount, David and Larry Ellison…

“…installed conservative journalist Bari Weiss at the helm, promising that her ‘entrepreneurial drive and editorial vision’ would ‘invigorate’ the network. But six months into Weiss’ rightward makeover of CBS, the fruits of her labors include…complaints from the CBS newsroom that she is dismantling its independence — and, it now appears, a viewer exodus.

“Status’ Oliver Darcy got ahold of some CBS News ratings data from the first quarter of 2026, and it is brutal. CBS Evening News has lost 7% of viewers year-over-year, placing it ‘on track for its lowest-rated first quarter of the 21st century in both total viewers and the advertiser-coveted 25-54 demographic,’ while CBS Mornings plummeted 13% and ‘is pacing toward its lowest-rated quarter on record in both total audience and the key demo.’ Meanwhile, the audiences of competitor shows at ABC News and NBC News grew over the same period.”

Those efforts to transform CBS News into Fox News Lite are not only failing, they were doomed to failure from the start. Why would any Trump-loving Fox News viewer ditch the network that has so thoroughly brainwashed them, for one that they have been conditioned for years to despise and distrust as “fake” news? American television audiences aren’t looking for more sycophantic, right-wing, stenography that sucks up to Trump and his White House regime. They get more than enough of that from Fox News, Newsmax, and dozens of MAGA-tist social media “influencers” who have repopulated the White House press briefing room.

What’s more, the timing of CBS couldn’t be worse. Trump has been descending to historic new lows in job approval. And even his most faithful MAGA minions – both media mouthpieces and audience – have been deserting him because of his betrayal on their core issues of releasing the Jeffrey Epstein files, and avoiding more unnecessary wars. Not to mention their being burdened by higher costs for everything from groceries, to gasoline, to housing, to healthcare, and more.

So just as Trump is becoming a political dead weight, CBS is chaining itself to that anchor as it sinks rapidly to the ocean floor. Any media, legal, and academic enterprises that follow suit will suffer similar hardships. And they will deserve it. It’s just too bad that the rest of us will also suffer the loss of honest, independent services that were available before the Trump poisoning of American culture.
