CNN Moves Don Lemon and Others to New Morning Show in Major Network Shake Up

On Thursday morning CNN announced that it is moving primetime anchor, Don Lemon, to a new morning show, that he will co-anchor along with Poppy Harlow and Kaitlan Collins. It’s the latest in a series of programming changes by the network’s new CEO, Chris Licht.

The move out of primetime for Lemon may look on the surface like a demotion. However, mornings are one the biggest revenue generating time periods in television news and it gives Lemon three hours daily instead of two. So it’s hard to assess whether there was any intention on the part of Licht to suppress Lemon’s generally liberal-leaning views. The test will come when we see his presentations in the new morning lineup, and when Licht announces who gets the now vacant primetime slot. Licht also still has an open slot where Chris Cuomo used to air.

For his part, Lemon celebrated the change saying that it was “time to shake things up,” and that he was “honored by [Licht’s] belief in me.” CNN’s announcement stated that…

“The network on Thursday unveiled a new marquee morning program that will debut later this year, anchored by stars Don Lemon, Poppy Harlow, and Kaitlan Collins. […] In recent weeks, Licht has started to put his stamp on the network’s programming, with the announcement of the new morning show his most significant move to date.”

Nevertheless, partisans on both sides are staking out positions on the move. Keith Olbermann addressed it with the benefit of his personal past experience at MSNBC with Licht…

“Chris Licht (who, when we worked together at msnbc, I believed used to eat paste) has now surrounded Don Lemon with an ex-Daily Caller “journalist” and somebody who last month demanded an apology from Biden to Republicans.”

On the other side, Sean Hannity of Fox News weighed in with his customary lack of any beneficial experience (also misspelling the name of “Christ” Licht}, saying that…

CNN recently merged with Discovery Networks, which has a notably conservative executive team and board of directors. When Licht was hired to run the network it seemed like a positive choice considering that he was previously the producer of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” But that may have been a premature assessment.

Licht almost immediately began making statements about how he is more interested in cutting back on news analysis in favor of just presenting a dryer, context-free brand of straight news. And his first programming decision was to cancel Brian Stelter’s “Reliable Sources.”

If CNN’s new management thinks that striving for some form of artificial neutrality is going to garner them more ratings or respect, they will be sadly mistaken. The right is going to demonize them no matter what they say. They have the “CNN = Communist News Network” baked in. And Donald Trump has already started lying about what’s going on at the network:

There could be pluses and minuses about this program change. Lemon has a strong following and could provide some serious competition for Fox and Friends and Morning Joe on MSNBC. But how the primetime hours will be filled is going to tell us more about the direction CNN is headed. If Jim Acosta moves into the timeslot, there may yet still be hope. If it’s Chris Wallace, not so much.

Racist Moron Donald Trump Tweets that LeBron James and CNN’s Don Lemon are Dumb

Remember when America had a president who wasn’t an infantile jerkwad who threw around insults at anyone he happened to hate at the moment? When we had a respectable leader who filled you with pride and confidence in the future. It seems like ages ago, but the memory lingers and the hope of returning to that reality persists. But for the time being we’re stuck with Donald Trump.

In a late night mental breakdown, Trump posted a disgustingly insulting tweet that demonstrates just how loathsome he is. And he’s following in the footsteps of one of his bigoted Fox News idols, Laura Ingraham, who did a whole segment on why LeBron James should “shut up and dribble.” But Trump’s tweet was confirmation that he’s a racist with the emotional maturity of newborn gnat.

First of all, there is no contest as to who is the dumbest man on television. It’s Donald Trump by leaps and bounds. In fact, this tweet is proof of it. For one thing, Lemon did not just interview LeBron James. The interview was four days ago. Is Trump really that slow? What’s more, the interview was a compelling look into the life of James and his selfless efforts to establish a school for at risk kids. Compare that to the phony “university” that Trump founded which ripped off students and broke numerous laws.

Secondly, Trump is repeating his pattern of insulting the intelligence of accomplished African-Americans. He has questioned the academic credentials of President Obama. He frequently refers to Congresswoman Maxine Waters as having a low IQ. And now he calls both Don Lemon of CNN and LeBron James dumb. But how would Trump know with his inability to comprehend the complexities of an Archie comic book? These are two of our nation’s most successful African-Americans who have excelled in their fields. Trump has only excelled at inspiring Nazis and Klan members to chant mindlessly at his cult rallies.

Apparently Trump was triggered by some brief and rather tame criticisms James made in the interview. When Lemon asked what he would say if he were sitting across from Trump, James said diplomatically that “I wouldn’t sit across from him.” Imagine the self-control he had to exercise to keep from saying something overtly derogatory, which Trump would have more than deserved. Nevertheless, Trump flew off the handle and fired off his blithering insults. But Trump’s senile dementia prevents him from recalling what he has said in the recent past about James and Lemon:

As for the final few words of this nauseating tweet, Trump added an insincere “I like Mike.” He may think that people will see that as evidence of his appreciation for Michael Jordan, another renowned African-American athlete and citizen. But don’t be fooled. He’s surely talking about Mike Pence. And Jordan had some harsh words for Trump’s divisive attack on sports figures who dare to exercise their right to free speech:

“One of the fundamental rights this country is founded on was freedom of speech, and we have a long tradition of nonviolent, peaceful protest. Those who exercise the right to peacefully express themselves should not be demonized or ostracized.

“At a time of increasing divisiveness and hate in this country, we should be looking for ways to work together and support each other and not create more division.”

And this just in: Jordan is supporting LeBron. Plus, Trump is doing one of his hate rallies in Ohio today (LeBron’s home state). I’m sure everyone who loves and admires LeBron will be waiting for him. Also, Melanie is trolling her imbecile husband by praising Lebron. CNN’s Don Lemon Righteously Shuts Down A Trump Shill – LITERALLY!

This weekend CNN did a segment comparing the costs of Donald Trump’s presidential vacations with Barack Obama’s. The actual numbers are pretty striking. Trump has cost taxpayers about as much in one month as Obama did in an entire year. Which is ironic considering how frequently, and without justification, Trump complained about Obama taking vacations.

The segment, though, went off the rails when right-wing mouthpiece Paris Dennard chimed in with what seems like a scripted whine. Ignoring the fact that the numbers were all verified and undisputed, Dennard said, “I think this is fake news. This is not a news story.”

Anchor Don Lemon was plainly annoyed by Dennard’s brain-dead mutterings. He asked Dennard if he could define fake news is. He couldn’t. So Lemon proceeded to help him with the definition:

“Fake news is when you put out a story to intentionally deceive someone and you know that it is wrong […] This story that we’re doing right now is not to intentionally deceive anyone. We are simply talking about the cost to keep a president safe.”

After schooling Dennard on the finer points of journalism, Lemon sought to make it perfectly clear that he wasn’t about to sit still for Dennard’s wingnut rhetoric:

“Please stop it with that stupid talking point, that it is a fake news story. If you don’t want to participate in the news stories on this network, then don’t come on and participate. But don’t call them fake because you don’t agree with them. Go on.”

With that, Dennard persisted with his fake news assertions despite the utter absurdity of it and the admonition from the host. Whereupon Lemon, clearly exasperated, chose to end the program. He thanked his guests, wished everyone a great weekend, and said goodnight.

Now that’s how you handle the robo-pundits that are sanctioned by political operations. These people are so rehearsed that they stumble all over themselves if asked to actually provide a coherent analysis. When faced with a demand to drop his script, Dennard just repeated the parts he had memorized. It didn’t matter that it no longer made any sense. Lemon did exactly the right thing. He refused to allow a glassy-eyed Trump sycophant to spew The Donald’s branding. It was beautiful.
