The upcoming midterm elections in November are going to present some compelling opportunities for Democrats. In 2025 they enjoyed some strong victories across the nation in races that were predicted to be close. And in many other races where they fell short, they narrowed the margin significantly.

Now most polls are showing that the Democratic Party is favored to win a majority in the House of Representatives. That advantage is the result of a combination of factors. First, Democrats have been taking the lead on the issues that matter most to the American people. And secondly, Republicans are saddled with Donald Trump, a mentally impaired megalomaniac who is only interested in himself.

While Democrats are working hard to lower the cost of housing, healthcare, groceries, and other expenses that folks encounter on a daily basis, Trump and his MAGA comrades are are squarely focused on building ballrooms, invading other countries (Venezuela, Greenland, Iran, Mexico, etc.), imposing inflationary tariffs, suppressing the Epstein files, and cutting government programs that help middle and lower income citizens, in order to enrich Trump and his wealthy benefactors.

That’s a political recipe for GOP disaster. But despite how bad that is as a strategy, Trump is going all in on it. On Tuesday morning Trump was asked about his vindictive and meritless persecution of Federal Reserve Board Chairman Jerome Powell. His response reveals just how devoted he is to – – – electing more Democrats?

Question: Sen. Thom Tillis says that the grand jury subpoena to the Federal Reserve chairman [Jerome Powell] was a little excessive. What do you think?
Trump: Well, that is why Thom is not going to be a Senator any longer, I guess. Right?. But I like Thom Tillis. He’s a nice guy. But he’s not gonna be a senator any longer because of views like that.

Q: “Sen. Thom Tillis says that the grand jury subpoena to the Federal Reserve chairman was a little excessive. What do you think?”Trump: “That is why Thom is not going to be a Senator any longer.”

Trump’s reaction to news that a Republicans senator considers the probe by Trump’s “Justice” Department to be only “a little excessive,” is to celebrate the end of that senator’s political career. Which Democrats will surely appreciate. Tillis represents the purple state of North Carolina that currently has a popular Democratic governor, Josh Stein. Tillis isn’t running for reelection this year, but former Democratic governor Roy Cooper is running for that seat, and holds a substantial lead over his likely GOP opponent.

Trump went on to demonstrate his ignorance of economics by stating that…

“We have a bad Fed chairman. He’s bad in a lot of different ways. But he’s bad because his interest rates are too high. And today we had a great inflation report. And today we had a really great growth report. So we have great growth and low inflation. And we’re doing very well.”

First of all, the Fed chair is just one vote on the Board, so he alone does not determine the interest rates. And true to form, Trump is lying about how great recent economic reports are. However, more to the point, Trump’s analysis that a strong economy warrants lowering of interests is the exact opposite of proper fiscal policy. Interest rates are generally only lowered to juice an economy that is troubled. Doing so with a strong economy is more likely to trigger inflation.

As for Trump’s political analysis, his embrace of losing this incumbent Republican senator is just the start of his strategic foolishness. He also came out against five other GOP senators who had the audacity to vote against his aspirations for unilateral tyranny over American war powers. He commented on his dedicated propaganda platform, Truth Social, that…

“Republicans should be ashamed of the Senators that just voted with Democrats in attempting to take away our Powers to fight and defend the United States of America. Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Rand Paul, Josh Hawley, and Todd Young should never be elected to office again.”

Trump’s opinion that these Republicans “should never be elected to office again” will be welcomed by Democrats, who only need to net four seats in order to become the majority. Flipping these five seats, along with Tillis, would do that with a two seat cushion. So once again, the more that Trump talks, the better things get for Democrats.

More Republicans are starting to defy Trump. Several recently did so to pass bills to extend the Obamacare subsidies, and to reign in his military aggressions. We are reaching a tipping point where the GOP are becoming more afraid of voters than they are of Trump. And the result of that will be that he lashes out more at members of his own party out of pure spite. And Democrats will be the beneficiaries.

Trump Has (Another) Senior Moment Forgetting How Much He Hates ‘Sleepy Eyes’ Chuck Todd

The sundowning mental acuity of Donald Trump becomes more evident with each passing day. His verbal gaffes, factual distortions, angry outbursts, and general incoherence and departures from reality would justify commitment to an institution for anyone other than the power mongering leader of a political cult.

Trump has manifested the Woody Allen joke wherein he laments a relative who is so crazy that he thinks he’s a chicken. But the family won’t get him help because…they need the eggs. That perfectly describes Trump’s family and his disciples in Congress and the media who regularly cover for Trump and sanewash his sickness. They know he’s nuts, but they rely on it to retain their power and wealth. Meanwhile, the rest of the nation has to suffer the humiliation of having Trump occupying their White House.

This week we have already seen Trump say that he was going to meet Vladimir Putin in Russia, when the meeting will be in Alaska. He has claimed to have reduced drug prices by a mathematically impossible 1,500%. And on Tuesday morning Trump posted a comment on his failing Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, in which he offered damning praise for former NBC correspondent, Chuck Todd…

“‘I don’t think we’ve had anybody with this much impact on the Country since FDR.’ Chuck Todd, formerly of NBC FAKE NEWS, in an interview with journalist David Brody. Wow, thank you Chuck. I always said that you were far better than the scum that runs the FAKE NEWS at NBC and, especially, Brian Roberts and ‘Concast.’ You are a Free Man now. Congratulations – Use your time well!”

To be sure, virtually everything that Trump does and says these days is intended to deflect from his unsavory relationship with child sex traffickers, Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. As for “journalist” David Brody, he is actually a Trump-fluffing squawking head on the Christian Broadcasting Network. But more to the point, Trump seems to have completely forgotten how he really feels about Chuck Todd. Over the course of many years Trump has attacked him as a disseminator of “fake” news with a typically infantile Trump nickname. For instance…

  • March 27, 2024: “Sleepy Eyes Chuck Todd, who was fired for dismal performance coupled with horrendous television ratings.”
  • May 7, 2023: “So funny to watch Sleepy Eyes Chuck Todd on Meet the Fake Press.”
  • April 9, 2023: “highly partisan Democrat anchor “Sleepy Eyes” Chuck Todd.”
  • July 7, 2022: “Is Chuck Todd Ready To MEET HIS DEMISE?”

Now, suddenly, Trump adores Todd and congratulations him on his freedom to exalt Trump. Except that isn’t what Todd wasn’t actually doing. Obviously somebody fed Trump an edited version of Todd’s remarks. The comments in context were merely pointing out that Trump had an impact, but that it wasn’t necessarily a positive one. Todd continued…

“Culturally, in particular. Certainly, in how even our politics is conducted. In that sense, I think the question is does he have impact on policy for decades to come? […] These are things that, you and I know, are things that the previous Republican Party would have…’How dare government tell business what to do?’ And yet there’s no outcry.”

For the record, here a few others who have had an “impact” America: Adolf Hitler, Lee Harvey Oswald, and Osama Bin Laden. That is the company that Trump is in. It is often difficult to come to the defense of Todd, who frequently sanitizes Trump, and other Republican extremists, with his trademark bothsiderisms. And even in these remarks he watered down the most salient points. But he was not praising Trump, as Trump believes.

In other comments posted to Truth Social, Trump was equally off kilter. In one he brazenly lied that…

“Trillions of Dollars are being taken in on Tariffs, which has been incredible for our Country, its Stock Market, its General Wealth, and just about everything else. It has been proven, that even at this late stage, Tariffs have not caused Inflation […] Consumers aren’t even paying these Tariffs.”

Reality begs to differ. As reported in the New York Times…

“U.S. Inflation Report Shows Effects of Trump’s Tariffs: A gauge of underlying inflation in July showed prices increasing at the fastest annual pace in five months, a sign that businesses are passing along tariff-related costs to customers.”

In another example, Trump continued his whining about Federal Reserve Chairman, Jerome Powell, for not lowering interest rates. He even escalated his complaint with a threat suggesting his intention to fire Powell…

Trump is still bashing – and threatening – Fed chair Jerome Powell for not lowering interest rates.But the Trump economy is running too hot and inflation is rising. Increasing interest rates will make that worse.

Once again, the real world interceded to correct Trump’s deranged misunderstanding of economics and current events. Granted, it is not always clear if Trump is just being ignorant, delusional, or dishonest. But the result is the same. It is destructive and dangerous and contrary to democratic governance. And the sooner he is stopped from his egomaniacal, authoritarian ambitions, the better. Keep up the resistance. And hopefully his family will get him the help that he so sorely needs.

Fox News Trump-Fluffer Says that Rising Inflation is ‘Another Victory for President Trump’

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has just released its latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) report for the month of June. And consistent with the expectations of economic forecasters, it reveals that inflation in the U.S. has increased again under the profoundly incompetent stewardship of Donald Trump.

Trump has only been in office for about six months. But in that short span of time he has succeeded in reversing the growth and stability that President Biden brought to the nation’s economy following the debacle that he inherited from Trump’s first occupation of the White House. Trump’s agenda rests heavily on recessionary initiatives such as his ill-considered tariffs, and his wildly unpopular “Big Ugly Bailout for Billionaires Act” (BUBBA). All of the harm from which he manages to blame on Democrats.

The CPI numbers for June showed that inflation is on the rise. That shouldn’t surprise anyone. The impact of the Trump tariffs (aka taxes) alone would insure a worsening inflation situation. and the tariffs haven’t even gone fully into effect yet. Nevertheless, as reported by CBS News, the damage is already being felt by the American people…

“The CPI was forecast to rise 2.7% last month, higher than last month’s rate of 2.4%, according to economists polled by financial data firm FactSet. June’s reading is the highest since February, when the CPI rose 2.8% on an annual basis.” […]

“Food prices rose 3% on an annual basis last month, higher than the overall inflation rate. Items that have seen big cost increases since last June include eggs, which are up 27.3%, roasted coffee, which is up over 12.7%, and ground beef, which is up 10.3%. Meanwhile, energy was a large source of inflation, with energy prices rising 0.9% on a month-over-month basis.”

While the cost of living is going up for American consumers, Trump is gaslighting them by insisting that just the opposite is true. They are not buying it – in more ways than one. Trump has been repeatedly lying that prices for everything from eggs to gas are at record lows. And he is getting support for those lies from his Ministry of Propaganda, Fox News. Fox’s Senior Trump-fluffer, Maria Bartiromo, had a ludicrous take on the CPI numbers just released, saying that…

“You’ve got to look at this report as another victory for President Trump, who has focused on reining in inflation — and that’s what we’re seeing from this report again.”

No, actually, you do not have to look at it that way. And as noted above, that’s not what we’re seeing in the report. It is, however, what Fox News and Trump want you to think that you see. And to that end, Trump posted a link to that Bartiromo comment on his failing Twitter ripoff, Truth Social.

Among those who have pointed out the dishonesty of how Trump and Fox News distort the economic data from their own agencies, is – checks notes – Maria Bartiromo? Yep. In April she reported that Trump’s tariffs will fuel higher prices and recession, saying that…

“It is going to have an effect on Main Street. Some things will become higher priced. We will see some products actually be raised in price because companies will pass on the cost of tariffs to consumers. I would expect that.”

Is that also “another victory for President Trump”? Perhaps in his diseased mind it is. If nothing else, what Trump falsely believes is a “PERFECT” economy warrants the termination of Jerome Powell, Chairman of the Federal Reserve. Following the CPI release, Trump posted a comment aimed at Powell that said “Consumer Prices LOW. Bring down the Fed Rate, NOW!!!” He has previously posted some infantile insults of Powell in an effort to coerce him to resign. For instance, he said that…

“‘Too Late’ Jerome Powell is costing our Country Hundreds of Billions of Dollars. He is truly one of the dumbest, and most destructive, people in Government.”

This would be a good time to remember that Powell was appointed to Chair the Fed Board by – checks notes again – Donald Trump! Now, like so many other Trump appointees, he regards his own people as “dumb” and “incompetent,” and even “treasonous.” And why wouldn’t they be? Those are all characteristics that apply perfectly to Trump.
