Republicans Get Pissy When Buttigieg Praises Biden Bill that Makes EVs More Affordable

The Republican Party seems to be committed to establishing itself as an anti-American confederacy that is focused only on acquiring and maintaining money and power. They demonstrate on a daily basis that their only loyalty is to the twice-impeached, former reality TV game show host, and aspiring authoritarian dictator, Donald Trump.

Joe Biden, GOP, Titanic

The GOP (Greedy One Percent) appears to have little interest in advancing any affirmative policies. They have no principles, no ideas, and no purpose other than to obstruct Democrats from implementing the overwhelmingly popular programs addressing reproductive choice, gun safety, climate change, voting rights, tax fairness, healthcare, and more. The record of the past two years validates the success of the Democrats’ efforts. The GOP, by contrast, are dismissing this at their own political peril.

Nevertheless, Republicans remain staunchly devoted to their current perverse agenda of preventing any positive progress on behalf of the American people. They illustrated this again after Secretary of Transportation, Pete Buttigieg, appeared on MSNBC to tout the benefits of the “Inflation Reduction Act” offered by President Biden and the Democrats. Buttigieg made several points about the bill’s provisions, which predictably sent the Republican National Committee (RNC) into a tizzy on Twitter:

RNC: Biden Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg defends the green energy handouts — a $7,500 giveaway to wealthy Americans for electric vehicles, which have an average cost of $67K — in the Bidenflation Scam.
Buttigieg: I’m excited about the electric vehicle provisions because what this will do is reduce the price, through tax credits, of an electric vehicle. And if you see that lower sticker price and can afford an EV, you’re also gonna be saving money every day that you own it.

It’s curious that the RNC is so outraged by a $7,500 tax credit that will enable Americans to purchase a clean energy car and save money on fuel, but they aren’t the least bit bothered by billions of dollars going to oil companies who will use it to further pollute the planet.

The RNC also dishonestly tries to mislead by citing the average cost of an electric vehicle. Nobody buys a car based on what the average price is of all makes and models. The presence of BMWs and Mercedes and Audis would make the averages for all sedans also look unattainably high. The truth is that many EVs are available for less than $35,000. And the RNC knows that. However, they went on to disinform with a bit of sarcasm, saying…

RNC: Biden Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg: Electric vehicles are the “best” solution for Americans facing sky-high gas prices
Buttigieg: The best thing we can do for the medium and long term is make sure Americans have more options through greater fuel efficiency, and greater access to vehicles that don’t require gasoline at all. So that Americans don’t have to worry about what’s happening in some Middle Eastern capitol or foreign war zone.

Of course, Buttigieg is right. There is no better option, for the environment as well as people’s pocketbooks, than moving toward a cleaner future in transportation. But the RNC just lamely mocks that notion without putting forward any other proposal that they think would be better.

This is typical of today’s Trumpified Republican Party. The only things they offer are hurdles to block progress and hostility toward those who actually want to make life better for the American people. And their lame attempts to distort reality are easily rebutted, as Buttigieg has proven before…

Pete Buttigieg Delivers Deft Smackdown of a Pinhead Republican’s Lunatic Anti-Biden Harangue

Among the most damaging deviations of Donald Trump’s infestation of the White House has been the spread of his deranged brand of ignorance and asininity. He has infected the majority of the Republican Party with a compulsion to exude hostility and lies aimed scattershot at Democrats, and even insufficiently worshipful Republicans.

Donald Trump, Republican, GOP

On Tuesday an example of this diseased behavior was on display in Congress as GOP representative Troy Nehls (TX-Wanker) unleashed a cascade of crackpottery during his inquisition of Secretary of Transportation, Pete Buttigieg. The Secretary was testifying before the House Infrastructure Committee.

RELATED: Crybaby Trump Whines Impotently About Passage of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill

Rather than address any relevant or rational issue, Nehls babbled bombastically about President Biden’s mental state in a flurry of wild allegations that never approached any semblance of reality. The result was a bizarre exchange wherein he solidified his aspiration to succeed Louis Gohmert as the GOP’s dumbest member of Congress. Aiming his invective at Biden, Nehls yammered…

Nehls: He shakes hands with ghosts and imaginary people. He falls off bicycles. Even at the White House Easter celebration, the Easter Bunny had to guide him back into his safe place. Cue cards that say ‘end of speech,” which he actually states, that is, if he stays awake. So my question for you is, have you spoken with any other cabinet member about implementing the 25th Amendment on President Biden?
Buttigieg: First of all, I’m glad to have a President who can ride a bicycle. And I will look beyond the insulting nature of that question and make clear …
Nehls (interrupting): Have you spoken to any cabinet members about implementing the 25th Amendment on President Biden?
Buttigieg: Of course not.
Nehls: Have you emailed any member of the executive branch about the President’s health…
Buttigieg: The President of the United States is as vigorous a colleague or boss as I have ever had the pleasure of working with.
Chairman DeFazio: The gentleman’s time has expire.
Nehls: Could you yield me one minute sir?
Chairman DeFazio: Absolutely not. If you had yielded the Secretary some time to actually answer the ridiculous question, you might have actually gotten something.

Buttigieg’s reply to Nehls was a clever, albeit overly gracious, way of reminding everyone of Trump’s mental and physical disabilities. However, literally every item on Nehls churlish checklist was, as someone once said, fake news. They were all drawn from the phony attacks by Fox News shills and MAGA-nauts that have been circulating among the cult crowd for months. Just as an example, the charge that Biden read stage directions from the TelePrompTer was not only false, it was rife with hypocrisy…

Nehls’ inquiry as to whether Buttigieg had ever considered invoking the 25th Amendment is particularly offensive. He knows that no such consideration was ever made or warranted. Biden has managed his presidential duties with intelligence, competence, and compassion. He never once suggested that people should inject themselves with bleach, or that hurricanes should be nuked, or that stealth fighters are actually invisible, or that windmills cause cancer. And, oh yeah, he never tried to overthrow the government.

RELATED: For Those Wondering What Biden and Democrats in Congress Have Been Doing the Past 16 Months…

During the same hearing, Buttigieg also shot down GOP insurrectionist Scott Perry, who has defied a subpoena, and who asked Trump for a pardon after pushing crackpot conspiracy theories about the election. Buttigieg corrected Perry’s deliberate lies about the cost of electric vehicles. Perry cherry-picked a $55,000 example. Buttigieg set him straight. And as shown in this article, many EVs are less than $35,000.

Tucker Carlson Attacks White House Parental Leave Policy, Which Fox News Also Offers

Leave it to the Fox News Senior Hate Monger, Tucker Carlson, to find a way to malign fatherhood, while viciously insulting LGBTQ people, and simultaneously displaying rank hypocrisy, all with the smirk of an elitist, trust fund baby, shielded from consequences by his right-wing employer.

Tucker Carlson Fox News

On Thursday evening Carlson was compelled to assault the institution of the family, an ironic position for the network that pretends to be the defenders of family values. Carlson’s tirade was triggered by the audacity of Secretary of Transportation, Pete Buttigieg, availing himself of the parental leave provided to all federal employees. But Carlson is apparently ignorant of the family leave policies of his own employer. This was revealed in a video contrasting Carlson’s homophobic mockery of Buttigieg, with a clip of Fox and Friends co-host Todd Piro:

Carlson: Pete Buttigieg has been on leave from his job since August after adopting a child. Paternity leave, they call it. Trying to figure out how to breastfeed. No word on how that went.
Piro: Fox is amazing. It’s a great organization. Really a family friendly organization. They give us six weeks as dads for paternity. I’m taking that six weeks. I can’t wait to bond with my little one.

Carlson’s crack about “breastfeeding” demeans all fathers who love their newborns enough to take some time off of work to care for them and their wives. That includes his colleague Piro, as well as Jesse Watters who, after the birth of his child with his second wife (a Fox News producer with whom he was cheating on his first wife), said that “Now I am pro-paternity [leave]. I used to mock people for taking paternity.” That’s the same brand of family “values” practiced by Donald Trump.

So Carlson deliberately neglects to mention that Fox News has a family leave policy that gives fathers six weeks off after the birth of a child. Even worse he criticizes Buttigieg for taking leave in the most insulting and infantile manner possible.

This, however, isn’t the first time that Carlson as lambasted a Biden administration policy that mirrors those of Fox News. Carlson also attacked Biden’s vaccine mandate policy. He characterized Biden’s efforts to get more people vaccinated, thus saving lives, as tyrannical and as waging a war on the American people. Never mind that Fox News has a similar policy that is even stricter than Biden’s, and which Carlson is abiding by.

How many other Fox News directives does Carlson oppose, but is too dishonest and cowardly to say so? Who knows? What we do know is that Carlson is a weaselly hypocrite who will suck up to whoever he needs to in order to benefit himself. After all, before he was rescued by Fox News, Carlson was fired from PBS, CNN, and MSNBC. He also had a run in with Fox before they hired him that resulted in him calling them “a mean, sick group of people.”

Now Carlson happily toils in Fox’s lie-mining caves like a good supplicant. He furthers their ultra-rightist agenda by embracing and dispensing their hate, lies, and conspiracy theories. All while maintaining his hallmark smirk and confused (constipated?) expression.

UPDATE: Mayor Pete responds saying that Carlson “doesn’t understand the concept of bottle feeding, let alone the concept of paternity leave. […and that…] This attack is coming from a guy who has yet to explain his apparent approval for the assassination of Harvey Milk.”

Dumba** Rumor Monger Trump Says Democrats are Changing Name to the Socialist Party

One of the only true records that Donald Trump has achieved as president is his Olympic-class achievement of having told more than 10,000 lies. It’s hard to imagine anyone taking that trophy from him. He is a leader in both quantity and sheer audaciousness, considering his unflinching ability to utter absurd, known falsehoods and to repeat his flagrant dishonesties ad nauseum.

Fox News, Socialism

However, having reached the pinnacle of prevarication, Trump is now broadening his horizons with a new form of deceit – Rumors! In an interview on Thursday, Trump thought he found an opportunity to take a jab at those he considers to be America’s most vicious adversaries. No, it wasn’t Russia or North Korea or ISIS or even Central American refugees. It’s just the plain old Democrats for whom his hatred is unbound. The Rumor-Monger-in-Chief told the interviewer that…

“I heard there’s a rumor the Democrats are going to change the name of the party from the Democratic Party to the Socialist Party.”

Let’s set aside the fact that there isn’t anything wrong with being a socialist. In fact, most Americans are socialists, whether they know it or not. Everything from Medicare to fire stations to interstate highways to public schools and libraries are societal benefits born of socialism. But Trump and his ignoramus Deplorables have no idea what the word means. They just use it as a handy pejorative because they don’t have vocabularies that allow them to converse above a third grade level.

And just to intercept the likely excuse that Trump and his defenders will probably serve up, you’ll notice that there isn’t a hint of a smile, or any indication that Trump was trying, in his pitiful way, to be funny. He’s simply casting out an asinine insult that has no basis in reality in order to malign his sworn enemies and to incite others to join him in his hate fest.

Not surprisingly, Fox News has already joined Trump’s Contempt Choir. On Trump’s favorite Fox News morning show, Fox and Friends, the “Curvy Couch” potatoes reveled in a segment bashing the Democratic primary debate (which they also did the day before) that featured a full screen graphic that blared “Socialism Takes the Stage.” Once again, these clods couldn’t provide a definition of socialism if an immigrant child’s life depended on it. (OK, that’s a bad example because they would give a damn about an immigrant child’s life).

This is more support for the argument that Democrats should pay any attention to what Trump or Republicans say about them. The have been calling Democrats socialists for decades, even when they advocated for the same policies. They would call the most conservative Democrats socialists just to keep the phony narrative intact. Presidential candidate Mayor Pete Buttigieg was asked a question about this by Joy Behar on The View and had a pretty darn good response (video below):

“Literally anything we do they’re going to call socialist. If it’s conservative they’ll call it socialist because it’s coming from Democrats. If it’s further left they’ll call it socialist. So let’s not worry about what they’re calling it. Let’s worry about whether it’s a good idea … Call it whatever you like, but let’s get it done if it’s a good idea. And the others can argue about what label to slap on it.”

Here’s a Solution for Trump’s Whining that ‘Something Strange is Going on at Fox News’

The single most predictable expression emanating from Donald Trump at any given moment is his relentless, childish whining. If he isn’t whining about the Mueller investigation, he’s whining about something a Democrat said, or the “fake news,” or Hillary Clinton’s emails, or invading caravans of refugees at the border, or China, or Iran, or worst of all, Obama. And that’s the short list.

Donald Trump, Fox News, Strange

A new entry into Trump’s parade of targets for his whine-feasting is one that many might not have expected. Although no one and nothing is safe from his wrath because all it takes is one slip up and you’re on his shitlist. But his recent attack on Fox News certainly raised some eyebrows.

During his latest cult rally in Pennsylvania, Trump ricocheted from one random nuisance to another with his typical flair for incoherence. He threatened to have his Attorney General, William Barr, investigate Democrats and the FBI for treason. He “joked” about serving five terms as president. And he accused Joe Biden of “deserting” Pennsylvania by moving to Delaware with his parents – when he was ten years old. This is a new wrinkle on his abhorrent policy of separating families. And then he unleashed this brilliant bit of paranoid mush (video below):

“What’s going on with Fox, by the way? They’re putting more Democrats on than Republicans. Something strange is going on at Fox, folks! Something very strange. […] Somebody’s gonna have to explain the whole Fox deal to me?”

Somebody’s gonna have to explain nearly everything to Trump. But more to the point, that was Trump’s response to the town hall Fox News aired on Monday with Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg. But more importantly, it was Trump’s admission that he regards Fox News as his personal publicity shop where only his views – and those of his GOP allies – are authorized to be broadcast. And if Fox should dare to stray from Trumpian orthodoxy, they are officially guilty of betraying the cause of white-wing nationalism, and him personally. He did exactly the same thing after the Bernie Sanders town hall on Fox.

Trump is actually right in an odd way. Research by Media Matters found that Democrats do appear on Fox News with some frequency. In fact, that occurs far more often than the cowardly Republicans appear on CNN or MSNBC. Trump himself is the King of the Cowards. He has not done an interview with either of those networks since becoming President.

Part of the reason that Fox News is hosting more Democrats than usual is that the Democratic primary field currently consists of twenty-four candidates. However, there is solution to this foreboding problem. Since Trump believes that there are too many Democrats taking up airtime on Fox News, all they need to do is schedule some more Republicans to even out the alleged imbalance. At the moment there is only one other Republican challenging Trump for the GOP nomination. That’s former Massachusetts governor Bill Weld.

As the chief executive of a large state that generally skews blue, Weld should be considered at least as viable a candidate as Buttigieg, the mayor of a small town in rural Indiana. Although Weld is taking on an incumbent president, that shouldn’t be a consideration for a legitimate, independent news network. If Fox News isn’t a Trump-fluffing propaganda operation, they should have no problem inviting Weld to do a town hall.

On the other hand, if Fox fails to offer an invitation to Weld, they are conceding that they are in the tank for Trump and will abide no opposition. To date there is no indication that any such invitation has been proffered. This seems like a perfect opportunity for Weld to approach Fox and insist that he be given the same consideration as Buttigieg, Sanders, and Trump. He is a serious contender with a platform that resonates with millions of Americans. And he would satisfy Trump’s call for Fox News to book more Republicans. So it’s time for Fox to step up and try to prove that they have at least a sliver of journalistic integrity. That, of course, may be too much to ask.

Fox News Riles Big Baby Trump By Hosting Buttigieg Town Hall Rather than More Trump-Fluffing

For anyone who isn’t yet convinced that Fox News is a wholly owned subsidiary of Trump Cult Enterprises (or maybe vice versa), Donald Trump has helped to affirm this fact himself. In a pair of tweets that reveal just how tightly integrated they are, the reality TV president made it clear that there should be no wavering on Fox’s mission to prop up all things Trump. And that also means shunning non-Trump news.

Fox News Friends

When Pete Buttigieg agreed to appear on Fox News for a town hall, he articulated his justifications for doing so. They were essentially the same as those by other Democrats who mistakenly believe that there is some merit to lending their credibility to a propaganda outfit that hasn’t earned it and doesn’t deserve it. In short, they argue that they need to reach out to Fox’s viewers. But there are other venues to communicate with any Fox viewer who isn’t devoutly pro-Trump. And those who are need not be bothered with. In the meantime, it’s counterproductive to help Fox earn more respect and revenue with which they will trash Democrats.

Nevertheless, Buttigieg showed up for the town hall ready to address what was expected to be an unfriendly encounter. Surprisingly, the audience was fairly receptive to his remarks. In particular they applauded vigorously when he said of Trump’s vile and infantile antics that “It is the nature of grotesque things that you can’t look away.” He also enjoyed a standing ovation at the end that caught anchor Chris Wallace off guard.

But Trump’s reaction to this program was somewhat different. He angrily tweeted that it’s:

Trump is giving away the propaganda game here. He is complaining that Fox News had the audacity to cover someone running for president other than the officially designated candidate of the Fox Nationalist Party. He did exactly the same thing following the Bernie Sanders town hall on Fox. According to Trump, just giving a Democrat one hour out of twenty-four is evidence that the network is “moving to the wrong side.” Even that phrasing indicates Trump’s impression is that Fox News is on his side and against his enemies.

Trump segues from that nonsense to taking a swipe at Wallace who he says “never speaks well of me.” Setting aside the fact that that’s patently false, a more interesting fact is that Trump is so scared of Wallace that he’s never granted him an interview as President. Which is ironic since the rightists in Fox World are always accusing Democrats of fearing Fox. The truth is just the opposite. Media Matters has done the research and found that Democrats appear on Fox News far more often than Republicans appear on CNN or MSNBC.

So what did Buttigieg gain by submitting to Fox? He earned a rebuke from Fox for having done so. The following morning the “Curvy Couch” potatoes of Fox and Friends tore into Buttigieg for speaking candidly about what happens “when you see what goes on with some opinion hosts on this network.” He elaborated saying…

“I mean when you’ve got Tucker Carlson saying that immigrants make America dirty, when you’ve got Laura Ingraham comparing detention centers and children in cages to summer camps, then there is a reason why anybody has to swallow hard and think twice before participating in this media ecosystem.”

That drew the ire of Fox’s Brian Kilmeade who went on an extended rant where in warned prospective Fox guests that they shouldn’t show up if they intend to speak their minds and tell the truth:

“Don’t hop on our channel and continue to put down the other hosts on the channel. If you feel that negative about it, don’t come.”

Perhaps Fox News should publish a guidebook outlining what is and isn’t allowed to be said on their network. Because if you say anything the least bit critical you’re scolded and maligned for having “absolutely no courage” despite your presence in their studio. Then, for good measure, Kilmeade went on to lie about Trump’s tax cuts which Buttigieg correctly said benefited the wealthy. Kilmeade disputed that saying that the cuts were aimed at corporations (Is that better, or even different?) and that “the smallest tax cut was for those who pay the most.”

All of these lies and insults took place the morning after the Buttigieg town hall. They were done without giving Buttigieg an opportunity to respond. There was no Democratic voice on to set the Foxies straight. And the Buttigieg bashing continued on Fox News throughout the rest of the morning broadcasts and surely continued for the remainder of the day.

So how exactly did the hour that Buttigieg got justify the countless hours of attacks and lies? The lesson from both Sanders and Buttigieg is that doing these Fox town halls only sets you up for attacks without providing any benefit whatsoever. Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris have stated publicly that they will not be submitting to Fox. The rest of the Democratic field should take heed and do the same.
