60 Minutes Interview of Kamala Harris that Drove Trump to Sue CBS is Nominated for an Emmy

The crusade by Donald Trump to suppress the media, intimidate journalists, and bring an end to America’s constitutional protection of the free press, has accelerated since his reoccupation of the White House. His determination to emulate the sort of autocratic control that his idols (Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping, Kim Jong Un, etc.) enjoy is the keystone of his MAGA Cult movement.

Kamala Harris, Donald Trump baby

Among Trump’s brazen efforts to clamp down on independent news organizations and reporting is his lawsuit against CBS for what he claims was their “illegal” editing of an interview of Vice-President Kamala Harris near the end of the 2024 election campaign. It was just another attempt by Trump to use meritless legal tactics to bring the media to heel with threats and the abuse of the power of the presidency.

SEE THIS: Trump Threatens CBS Over Kamala Harris Interview on 60 Minutes He Says Was ‘Possibly Illegal’

Trump was furious at CBS and 60 Minutes for reporting in a manner that was consistent with honest and professional journalism. He posted a frothingly rabid comment in October of last year on his failing Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, saying that…

“60 MINUTES SHOULD BE IMMEDIATELY TAKEN OFF THE AIR – ELECTION INTERFERENCE. CBS SHOULD LOSE ITS LICENSE. THIS IS THE BIGGEST SCANDAL IN BROADCAST HISTORY. Kamala should be investigated and forced off the Campaign”

Trump is going to have an aneurism after he learns that the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has just announced that the interview that triggered Trump’s wrath has been nominated for an Emmy in the very category that ruffled his scales. As reported by the Associated Press (which Trump has banned from presidential events)…

“Last fall’s ’60 Minutes’ story on Kamala Harris — the subject of Trump’s $20 billion lawsuit against CBS — was nominated for an Emmy Award Thursday for ‘outstanding edited interview.’ Trump, in his lawsuit, complained that the interview was deceptively edited to make his Democratic election opponent look good.”

That’s right. The interview that Trump baselessly asserted was “illegal” and “election interference” due to its editing, has been nominated for an Emmy for “Outstanding Editing.” Could there be a better example of the irrational inanity of Trump’s impotent whining?

Well, actually there can be. Because Trump is still doing it with even greater force of idiocy. A few days ago Trump posted a new comment absurdly claiming that “The case we have against 60 Minutes, CBS, and Paramount is a true WINNER.” He reiterated his false accusation that the interview was improperly edited. But then he escalated his legal threats to include the New York Times because they published an article that correctly reported that legal experts regarded his case as “baseless.” He wrote that…

“[T]he Failing New York Times, which is Fake News both in writing and polling, claims that ‘people’ said that the case is baseless. They don’t mean that, they just have a non curable case of TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, possibly to the point where the Times’ interjection makes them liable for tortious interference, including in Elections, which we are intently studying.”

It is also notable that Trump’s legal threats are both a conflict of interest and a flagrant abuse of power. As David Corn of Mother Jones reports, Trump is simultaneously suing CBS and it’s corporate parent, Paramount, while his FCC chair, Brendan Carr, is reviewing a proposed merger between Paramount and Skydance Media. So Trump can extort a settlement from CBS under the threat of declining to approve the merger.

That wholly inappropriate scenario may have contributed to the resignation of 60 Minutes executive producer, Bill Owens, whose reason for leaving after 37 years included the complaint that he “would not be allowed to run the show as I have always run it. To make independent decisions based on what was right for 60 Minutes, right for the audience.”

Hopefully CBS will not capitulate to Trump’s demands. What is clear is that everyone who has done so previously has paid a price for it, financially and reputationally. And those who have stood up against him have prevailed. That’s because the law, and the Constitution, and the people are on the side of unfettered freedom of the press. And it’s why Trump’s totalitarian efforts to undermine it will fail in the end.

UPDATE: An outraged and deranged Trump is predictably whining that the 60 Minutes interview “has now been nominated for an award by the totally discredited Emmys. Did 60 Minutes and its Corporate Parents apply to get an Emmy for an illegally falsified interview?”

Trump FREAKS OUT Over a Democrat’s Bill to Impeach Him (Again), And He Can’t Figure Out Why

In the first few months of MAGA 2.0, Donald Trump has managed to exceed the worst predictions of his reoccupation of the White House by even the most pessimistic prognosticators. To the horror of patriotic Americans, he is fulfilling his campaign pledge that he would be a “dictator on day one,”

Donald Trump, Impeach

From Trump’s unlawful dismantling of critical government agencies that literally save lives, to his disregard for the Constitution and defiance of judicial orders, to his threats against and suppression of the free press, his second term is a straight up embrace of the totalitarian rule that he envies as practiced by his idols and role models Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping, and Kim Jong Un. Which isn’t really working out for him.

Consequently, it isn’t particularly surprising that an understandably concerned Democratic member of Congress, Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-MI-13), has drafted a set of Articles of Impeachment in an attempt to save America from the certain harm that Trump is causing and seeks to exacerbate going forward. To be sure, it may be a well intentioned, but Sisyphean effort considering that Republicans control Congress for the time being. But a challenge not accepted is always lost.

You have to start somewhere. And this beginning is at least serving the purpose of pissing off Trump, and triggering a late night tantrum as his frantic response. Just before midnight on Thursday, Trump posted a long and rambling comment on his failing Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, that displayed just how troubled he is by this attempt at a third impeachment, that he bizarrely complained was the twentieth. He began by whining that…

“The Democrats are really out of control. They have lost everything, especially their minds! These Radical Left Lunatics are into the ‘Impeachment thing’ again…even though they have no idea for what I would be Impeached.”

Following that childish rant, Trump rattled off a bunch of incidents – mostly fabrications contrived by his diseased brain – that he thinks are problems for Democrats, including his relentless repetition of “Russia, Russia, Russia,” which actually refers to his well documented and unsavory associations with, and favoritism toward, his mentor, Vladimir Putin. Then he continued…

“These Congressmen stated that, they didn’t know why they would Impeach me but, ‘We just want to do it.'”

Of course, no one ever stated any such thing. But he uses that lie to call for “expelling them from Congress for all of the crimes that they have committed.” And naturally, he doesn’t bother to identify a single one of those alleged, imaginary crimes. But he does lash out like a whiny baby calling them “total LOWLIFES, who hate our Country.”

Trump closed by reprising an attack on an old nemesis who still resides rent-free in the Mar-a-Lardo atop his turkey neck…

“Remember, “Shifty” Adam Schiff demanded a Pardon…for him and the Unselect Committee of Political Thugs.”

Once again, Trump is lying. Neither Schiff, nor any of the members of the House Committee Investigating the January 6th Insurrection, “demanded” or even asked for a pardon. Biden alone made the wise decision to issue the pardons that Trump’s vengeful behavior has fully justified. After all, he is still calling for them to be persecuted as “treasonous.”

For the record, the most recent Articles of Impeachment against Trump by Rep. Thanedar belie Trump’s deranged assertion that “they have no idea for what I would be Impeached.” In fact, the seven articles were clearly spelled out in unambiguous detail…

  1. Obstruction of Justice and Abuse of Executive Power: Including denial of due process, unlawful deportations, defiance of court orders, and misuse of the Department of Justice.
  2. Usurpation of Appropriations Power: For dismantling congressionally established agencies and impounding federal funds.
  3. Abuse of Trade Powers and International Aggression: Including imposing economically damaging tariffs and threatening military invasion against sovereign nations.
  4. Violation of First Amendment Rights: Through retaliatory actions against critics, media, and attorneys exercising constitutionally protected speech.
  5. Creation of an Unlawful Office: By establishing the Department of Government Efficiency (“DOGE”) and unlawfully empowering Elon Musk to unilaterally violate the Constitution.
  6. Bribery and Corruption: Involving dismissing criminal cases, soliciting foreign emoluments, and extortionate settlements for personal and political gain.
  7. Tyrannical Overreach: Seeking to consolidate unchecked power, erode civil liberties, and defy constitutional limits on presidential authority.

What could be clearer? If Trump still doesn’t understand what the grounds for his impeachment are, perhaps that should be the eighth article. Or at least grounds for invoking the 25th Amendment.

OH MY: Trump’s Competency and the 25th Amendment was Raised on Fox News by Democratic Congressman

The case for declaring that Donald Trump is mentally unfit to serve as president has been made by many experts and professionals in the psychiatric field. But it doesn’t take an expert to see that Trump’s behavior in office is profoundly disturbed, erratic, and dangerous. In fact, it was made during his first term by a group of doctors that came together as “Duty to Warn.”

Donald Trump, Insane, Straight Jacket

In the 100 days since his inauguration, Trump has managed to crash the economy, alienate America’s allies, embrace its foes, dismantle critical agencies, and defy the courts and the Constitution, all while exalting himself as the messiah of his deranged MAGA movement. But no matter how hard he tries, he has been unable to convince the American people that he is capable and trustworthy.

SEE THIS: Trump Marks His First 100 Days By Glorifying Why Most Americans See Him as ‘A Dangerous Dictator’

While the majority of Americans have seen through the facade that Trump presents, a small faction of the population remains steadfastly loyal and blissfully ignorant. They can be identified by the media that they consume, which is primarily Fox News.

However, on Wednesday the curtain that covers Trump’s maladies and malevolence was pulled aside briefly. On Will Cain’s primetime Fox News program, Rep. Dan Goldman was interviewed about the state of Trump’s presidency at the 100 day mark. But their discussion went somewhat off course for a Fox segment on Trump when the matter of his competency was raised by Cain…

Cain: Even if you disagree, Congressman, and clearly you do with much of the president, the competency of the sitting president today, I think that the accuracy and the truth of those words do matter.
Goldman: Well, I don’t think he’s competent, Will. I don’t know what to tell you. Whether his cognitive abilities are sufficient to get past the 25th amendment, we don’t know that right now. But I think what is clear is that he has driven our country into a disastrous economy. He has undermined the fundamental rule of law and democracy. He is taking away benefits in order to cut taxes for the rich. I think even you, Will, would have to agree with me that this first hundred days is not at all what he promised the American people.
Cain: No, I’m sorry to notify you, I do not agree with you. I think this first 100 days is exactly what he promised the American people, and more importantly, exactly what was voted on by the American people.
Goldman: But I think the American people thought that he was going to lower costs, not raise them.

That’s a lot of honest analysis for your average Fox News viewer to consume. They are not accustomed to hearing that Trump has cognitive deficiencies, or the examples of how those deficiencies impact the nation and the people. To be sure, most of Fox’s viewers are confirmed cult devotees who will dismiss everything that Goldman said. But the exposure to it could seep into the thoughts of a few whose minds are not cemented shut.

Unsurprisingly, Cain disagreed with Goldman. But his arguments for doing so were the sort of hollow rhetoric that is to be expected of a cult Pharisee. Obviously the American people did not vote for Trump to undermine democracy, increase the cost of living, terminate their healthcare and Social Security, or deport people – including U.S. citizens – with no legal basis or due process.

Goldman’s remarks on Fox News are the sort of medicine that the right-wing MAGA minions need. That includes the ones in Congress. And Goldman also addressed them on Thursday in a House committee hearing. Speaking to his Republican colleagues, Goldman said that…

“I don’t understand how you’re gonna be able to look yourself in the face knowing that you voted to allow our federal government to detain and deport United States citizens simply because you do not want to vote against something that Donald Trump may support.

“Do you have a thought of your own? Do you have a belief of your own? Or is everything literally just whatever Donald Trump tells you it should be?”

Rep Dan Goldman.

That’s a silly question. Of course “everything is literally just whatever Donald Trump tells [them] it should be?” Trump is the only one in MAGA World who has any thoughts or beliefs. And those are are as wispy as a fog on a sunny morning. They will change from one moment to the next. But they are what GOP members of Congress cling to for dear life.

Some day Republican representatives will realize that they need to be more afraid of voters than of Trump. And with the way that the current polls ore going, that day may be upon us sooner than we think. But still not sooner than we hope.
