Trump’s Defense Secretary Rages that ‘The Department of Defense Does Not Do Climate Change Crap’

When Donald Trump recruited Pete Hegseth from Fox News to lead his Department of Defense, it was unarguably among the worst nominations in the history of the country. Hegseth had zero experience in military management, or in leading an enterprise on the scale of the Pentagon. He was just a weekend talking head on a propaganda network. So what could go wrong?

Click here to post this article on Twitter or Click here to post on Bluesky

Donald Trump Climate Change

Since his confirmation, Hegseth has proven to be just as incompetent and corrupt as his lack of experience and judgment predicted. In his brief tenure to date he has fully embraced the agenda of Trump and co-president Elon Musk to decimate the Defense Department. And to make sure that nobody gets any reliable information about that, he has banished credible news outlets from the Pentagon and replaced them MAGA media hacks.

SEE THIS: Trump Kicks Reporters Out of Pentagon Offices, Replaces Them with MAGA Media Mouthpieces

Determined to diminish the military readiness of the United States, Trump and Hegseth continue to implement policies that will surely delight Trump’s idol and mentor, Vladimir Putin. Among them is an official rejection of the risks posed by climate change. In response to a news story on the subject, Hegseth posted a tweet that said only that, “The @DeptofDefense does not do climate change crap.”

The CNN article that Hegseth was so cavalierly dismissing was an in-depth analysis of how the climate crisis would impact America’s military engagements around the world. It said in part that…

“As the Pentagon and Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency [DOGE] set their sights on climate-related programs at the Defense Department, officials and experts are warning that slashing them could put US troops and military operations at risk, both in the near and long term.”

Despite the well-reasoned insights by experts in military matters and meteorology, Hegseth felt comfortable posting his pithy little reply that wasn’t merely a blind disagreement with the science, but a childish insult characterizing the nearly universal consensus on climate as “crap.” His bullheaded ignorance is very likely going to result in catastrophes for American soldiers, as well as America’s military strength worldwide.

For the record, Hegseth’s views – and Trump’s – are contrary to those of prior secretaries of defense. And that includes one of Trump’s own from his first term, James Mattis, who warned that

“Climate change is real, and a threat to American interests abroad and the Pentagon’s assets everywhere. [And that] this is a real-time issue, not some distant what-if. Climate change is impacting stability in areas of the world where our troops are operating today.”

MORE HERE: Trump’s Defense Secretary Says Climate Change Is a Real Threat to American Interests

Mattis wasn’t the first Defense Secretary to issue such a warning. Fourteen years prior, under George W. Bush’s defense secretary, Donald Rumsfeld, the Pentagon published a report titled ‘An Abrupt Climate Change Scenario and Its Implications for United States National Security.’ that warned that “threats to global stability posed by rapid warming vastly eclipse that of terrorism.”

These views were shared by at least seven of the past Secretaries of Defense (Mattis, Ash Carter, Chuck Hagel, Leon Panetta, Robert Gates, Rumsfeld, and another Trump appointee, Mark Esper), who all subscribed to the policy that climate change is one of America’s top strategic risks. And five of the seven are Republicans.

The military has been crystal clear for decades about the very real consequences of a world where water and arable land become scarce, and nations erupt into chaos and war. Migration, border disputes, and even the habitability of the bases the U.S. has around the world are all risk factors that the military have long recognized as critical to our national security.

While this dangerous rejection of reality is reprehensible, it isn’t surprising. After all, Trump has long been a climate change denier. And a pretty asinine one at that. He still believes that climate change is a hoax perpetrated by China.

Fox News is OUTRAGED that Americans Hate Musk and Trump Just Because They’re Destroying America

The turmoil that is the trademark of Donald Trump and his reality TV game show persona is being unleashed on America – and the world – with the implementation of his malicious MAGA agenda. The consequences of his idiotic and inflationary tariffs, his abandonment of U.S. allies in Ukraine, Europe, and elsewhere, and his reckless chainsaw cutting of critical government services, are having a notable impact on his approval rating.

Click here to post this article on Twitter or Click here to post on Bluesky

Fox News Sad

It shouldn’t surprise Trump that his policies, that are causing real harm to people who aren’t wealthy oligarchs lounging around the pool at Mar-a-Lago, are a drag on his popularity. Not that he cares about those people. But he does care when his massive, yet fragile, ego gets bruised by sinking poll numbers.

SEE THIS: Trump 2.0 Begins with Approval Ratings that Rank Below Every Other President Dating Back to 1953

Neither should anyone be surprised that Trump’s Ministry of Propaganda (aka Fox News) would come to his defense during times of trouble in order to prop up both his ego and his poll numbers. To that end, Ainsley Earhardt, co-host of Fox and Friends (and Sean Hannity’s girlfriend) expressed her dismay at the outrageous lack of gratitude that the American people are showing for Trump’s co-president, Elon Musk, and all that he is doing selflessly for the benefit of all. She whined that…

“He wants to go rescue those astronauts. If that is successful, can you imagine? They’ll still hate him. He wants to reduce waste and fraud. He wants to save American tax dollars. They still hate him. He’s helping the blind to see again. And they still hate him. And then, he’s making the people that have spinal cord injuries walk again. And they hate him. It is evil, it is mean. Laughing because the rocket blew up? I mean, why? I hope that we would never do that, even if we disagree with his politics.

https://twitter.com/Acyn/status/1899496826614714657

Earhardt has a perverse perception of what Musk is up to. Everything that she complained about was directly contradictory to reality. First of all, he isn’t “rescuing” the astronauts on the International Space Station. Their return has been delayed by technical issues, but they are in no danger. And Musk isn’t offering to retrieve them as a gesture of patriotism. It’s a profit making venture for him. And considering the record for Musk’s rocket launches, the astronauts may be in more danger if they accept his offer for a ride. So yeah, we hate him.

Secondly, Earhardt asserts that Musk wants to reduce waste and fraud. Bullpucky! He is slashing government agencies in a thoroughly thoughtless and irresponsible manner that is putting millions of people at risk. Those risks could come in the form of loss of access to healthcare, vulnerability to corporate fraud and corruption, air disasters, poisoning of food and water, depriving the needy of nutritional and educational support, and endangering Social Security. And he is doing it so that he can justify cutting taxes for billionaires like himself. So yeah, we hate him.

Thirdly, Earhardt praises Musk for his work on medical devices that could help the blind or paralyzed. Once again, these are businesses that Musk will profit from. He has demonstrated with Tesla that he couldn’t care less about any benefit that his products might provide. He surely doesn’t care about the environment. He only cares about getting richer and more powerful. And he is doing more harm to people with health issues by terminating staff and funding for projects like cancer research, pandemic mitigation, and Medicare. So yeah, we still hate him.

The worshipful adoration that Fox News Trump-fluffers like Earhardt display is the norm on the network. In fact, they recently hired Trump’s daughter-in-lawlessness, Lara, and gave her a weekend program in primetime. She is, of course, an integral part of the Trump Cult and recently said that the American people need to be more grateful to Trump and Musk. She told Sean Hannity that…

“We cannot survive as a country. So people ought to be kissing the feet of Elon Musk and Donald Trump for being the two people that actually do this.”

So yeah, we will continue to hate them for as long as they continue to hurt us, and to sabotage our country, in order to enrich themselves. They can kiss each other’s feet if it’s that important to them. In fact, it looks like they have already begun…

Lara Trump’s New Show on Fox News is a Putrid Pile of Pure Propaganda

From its inception nearly thirty years ago, Fox News has devotedly pursued its mission to advance the goals of ultra conservative extremists in politics and culture. Their obsession with championing the interests of the wealthy and corporations has only grown stronger in the intervening years.

Click here to post this article on Twitter or Click here to post on Bluesky

Fox News, Lara Trump, My View

However, a new wrinkle in their role as the right’s primary purveyor of propaganda became apparent with the emergence of the Cult of Trump. From the moment Donald Trump kicked off his political career by descending his grossly gaudy gold-plated escalator in a ludicrous made-for-realty-TV spectacle, Fox News was there to prop up his flagrant lies and pseudo-messianic self image. And to this day they are still doing it.

SEE THIS: Fox News Trump-Fluffer Insists that the Coming Trump Recession Has Nothing To Do With Trump

In February Fox News debuted a program entitled “My View With Lara Trump.” Its host was, of course, Donald Trump’s daughter-in-lawlessness, Lara. The absurdity of an alleged “news” network giving a primetime program to a close relative of the sitting occupier of the White House is impossible to overstate.

This affront to journalism by Fox News is particularly grotesque considering that this Trump relative has been such a fanatical partisan and is not only the wife of Trump’s son Eric, but also the stooge that he installed as chair of the Republican Party. Just imagine the outcry from the right if MSNBC hired Hunter Biden to host a primetime show on that network.

So how has it been going on Lara’s new program? Well, so far Lara’s “View” has featured interviews with a broad variety of guests ranging from the rabid right all the way to the most malicious mouthpieces of MAGA Land. They include Trump’s anti-press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, his bought and paid for attorney general, Pam Bondi, his former DOGE partner, Vivek Ramaswamy, his Russian asset/director of national intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, and his Black friend, Byron Donalds.

That’s not exactly a roster that represents fairness and/or balance. Rather, it is a brazenly biased collection of Trump puppets whose sole duties are to disseminate his disinformation doctrine. As an example of nepo-baby Lara’s unique reportage skills, here’s a clip of her interview of Trump’s Transportation Secretary, Sean Duffy…

That is downright hysterical! Lara’s question is actually an affirmation that Duffy has no business being in a presidential Cabinet. His resume as a contestant on MTV’s “The Real World,” and as a Fox News talking head, is joke. He has zero qualifications for anything related to transportation or civic planning. It is inevitable that he is going to screw up. And the people are going to suffer the consequences, which could be deadly.

That said, Duffy’s appointment is consistent with Trump’s employment standards. To date Trump has recruited at least 19 utterly unqualified people from Fox News, including his Defense Secretary, Pete Hegseth. And by the way, Duffy’s wife, Rachel Campos-Duffy, is currently a co-host of Fox and Friends.

MORE HERE: Trump’s Nominees Are Largely Fox News Alum, Mar-a-Lago Patrons, and Billionaires

Lara Trump is an example of how the Trump/Fox News revolving door spins both ways. And she isn’t the only one. Trump’s former press secretary, Kayleigh McEnany, is now a co-host of Fox’s “Outnumbered.” And former GOP congressman, Jason Chaffetz, has a show on Fox Nation. Many others in the Trump Cult are contributors or frequent guests.

This isn’t a coincidence. It’s a strategy. It is how aspiring totalitarian tyrants maneuver the media to manufacture support among a gullible and brainwashed audience. Trump is following the playbook he has acquired from his idols Vladimir Putin, Viktor Orbán, and other dictators. And patriotic Americans need to wake up and recognize the danger ASAP, or we will suffer the same fate as past fallen democracies.

Fox News Flunky Slobbers Over Trump for Finding 100s of Billions in Fraud that He Never Found

Donald Trump promised the American people a lot of things during his campaign last year, including ending the wars in Ukraine and Gaza, cutting taxes for corporations and the wealthy, eliminating the national debt, lowering the costs of groceries, and getting revenge on his political enemies.

Click here to post this article on Twitter or Click here to post on Bluesky

Donald Trump, Fox News, Fake

Most of the promises Trump made were supposed to have been fulfilled on day one of his reoccupation of the White House. Needless to say, he has failed to deliver on any of it, with the exception of some blatantly anti-constitutional acts of vengeance against politicians and the press.

SEE THIS: MAGA GOP Reps Deny that Donald ‘I Am Your Retribution’ Trump Has an ‘Enemies List’ (He Does)

Rather than bothering to make good on his promises, Trump has devoted the biggest portion of his time to courting his omnipresent oligarch, Elon Musk, and the mythical Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) that he either runs or has nothing to do with, depending on what day you ask Trump.

On Sunday morning Trump was interviewed for the umpteenth time on Fox News by their Senior Trump-Fluffer, Maria Bartiromo. The interview could not have been more obsequious if it had been conducted by Trump’s own press secretary, which is pretty much what Bartiromo functions as. As evidence, take a look at this segment wherein she compliments Trump and Musk for the “unbelievable” work they are doing…

Bartiromo: Democrats say Elon Musk and DOGE are overstepping their bounds. You’re right, what Elon Musk and DOGE have been able to uncover is unbelievable. Half of us didn’t even realize…
Trump (interrupting): Stop there. What you just said, what he’s done is unbelievable. Now, you can then add some, “Well, what about the–?” He’s found hundreds of billions of dollars worth of fake contracts. And I read ’em, just a tiny portion of them, the other night. Transgender surgery on mice. Hundreds of — I mean, the money they’re spending on all of this stuff — the whole thing’s a scam. And you’ll find, ultimately, that the money that they sent comes back to a lot of the people that made those deals, okay? You’re going to find that. What he’s also done is made people realize how many people should be cut. Because normally you go in, all right, cut 4 percent of your workforce. He said cut 50%, 60%, 70%. That’s a big thing. He’s done a great job,

Notice how Bartiromo starts off with a criticism leveled by Democrats that is unarguably true and supported by constitutional scholars. But she quickly detours to lavishly praising MAGA’s Diuretic Duo. At which point she is interrupted by Trump to home in on her accolades. He heartily agrees that he and Musk are “unbelievable.”

To be fair, anyone could agree with that. Because what Trump said is literally impossible to believe. For starters, he claims that Musk “found hundreds of billions of dollars worth of fake contracts.” However, the official website for DOGE only lays claim to having found $55 billion that it has identified as waste and/or fraud. And even that number is not to believed. As NPR reports

“A new online tracker on the Department of Government Efficiency’s website puts a dollar amount on the estimated savings from the DOGE effort to slash federal government spending at $55 billion. But an NPR analysis finds the numbers don’t add up. […DOGE] “claimed to show more than $16 billion in savings from ending contracts. After correcting an apparent clerical error, it now shows $8.5 billion.” […]

“In all, estimated savings from the initial DOGE list of just over 500 contracts that NPR found to be cancelled runs closer to $2 billion, with roughly half coming from the gutting of the Department of Education, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the U.S. Agency for International Development. […] NPR’s analysis found that, of its verifiable work completed so far, DOGE has cut just $2 billion in spending — less than three hundredths of a percent of last fiscal year’s federal spending.”

Trump went on make several other statements that no one in their right mind would believe. Such as his assertion that funds were spent on “transgender surgery on mice.” That is just as untrue as when he said it in his speech before Congress. He mistook a report on “transgenic” research on mice, which are genetic experiments done to study human illnesses.

Trump also charged that “the whole thing’s a scam.” He didn’t define “thing” in that comment, but it seems to apply to the entirety of government. It is likely projection on his part because the businesses that he runs are scams, so he thinks that all businesses, including the business of government, are scams.

MORE HERE: OH-NO! Trump WH Aide Brags They are Running the Country Like Trump and Musk Run Their Businesses

Then Trump attempted justify Musk’s chainsaw approach to workforce reduction, saying that “normally you go in, all right, cut 4 percent of your workforce. He said cut 50%, 60%, 70%.” That, of course, would paralyze every agency’s ability to serve the people that it was created to serve. And for agencies that generate revenue, such as the IRS and national parks, it would result in losses that would exceed everything that DOGE has said it was saving.

So yeah, what they have done is indeed unbelievable. Unbelievably stupid. And they are relying on Fox News to lie to their viewers about the impact that these boneheaded operations will have. Especially on the gullible rubes in red states that are far more dependent on government services. Not that wealthy elitists like Trump and Musk – or the TV hacks on Fox – care about them. They only need them at election time. After that they are thrown out with the other white trash.

Trump is FREAKING OUT About His Coming Recession and Is Begging Weaselly Republicans for Votes

Last week the economy got bad news from multiple fronts. The monthly jobs report showed that the nation added fewer jobs than economists expected in February, the first full month under Trump. Also, the stock market suffered its worst decline in six months, partly due to Trump’s incompetent machinations with tariffs.

Click here to post this article on Twitter or Click here to post on Bluesky

Donald Trump

Many of the signals from a variety of economic indicators are pointing to the likelihood of a recession triggered by Trump’s gross mismanagement of the booming economy that he inherited from President Biden. But despite the abundant evidence that Trump has horrendously botched his responsibilities as the country’s financial steward, his fluffers at Fox News have been predictably covering for his incompetence.

SEE THIS: Fox News Trump-Fluffer Insists that the Coming Trump Recession Has Nothing To Do With Trump

Those efforts by Fox News notwithstanding, Trump is feeling the heat from a nation that is growing more disturbed by the hour by Trump’s utter failure to fulfill his campaign promise to fix everything on day one of his reoccupation of the White House. His policies have only succeeded in making things worse. And his resulting flip-flops reveal how lost he is and incapable of coming up with a solution.

Consequently, Trump is resorting to what he knows best: Whining on his failing Twitter ripoff, Truth Social, and seeking to coerce his MAGA minions in Congress to supplicate themselves to his desires. He posted a message that is little more than begging for votes to pass an interim Continuing Resolution, because Republicans can’t manage to put a passable budget bill on the floor.

“The House and Senate have put together, under the circumstances, a very good funding Bill (‘CR’)! All Republicans should vote (Please!) YES next week. Great things are coming for America, and I am asking you all to give us a few months to get us through to September so we can continue to put the Country’s ‘financial house’ in order. Democrats will do anything they can to shut down our Government, and we can’t let that happen. We have to remain UNITED — NO DISSENT — Fight for another day when the timing is right. VERY IMPORTANT. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Note that Trump is now reversing course on his prior opposition to CRs. He knows that a new budget won’t get enough votes, even from his fellow Republicans. And he has lowered himself to begging for votes (“Please!”) that his party is reluctant to give him. They know that in order to achieve the goals that Trump and GOP leaders have articulated, they would have to make huge cuts to popular programs like Medicare and Social Security. And at least some of them don’t appear to be willing to do that.

So now Trump is asking for more than one day to deliver his Trumptopia. He’s asking for at least six months. However, even that may not be sufficient if forecasts of recession come to pass. And with the dismantling by DOGE of the governmental agencies that provide so many of the services that keep the economy humming, it’s difficult to see any relief from the purposeful sabotage over which Trump is presiding.

Making matters even more difficult for the Trump regime, his Ministry of Propaganda, Fox News, is starting TO waver. Greg Sargent at the New Republic published an article titled Fox News Suddenly Starts Panicking About Trump’s Economy: ‘Weakening!’ It begins…

“Fox News figures are willing to propagandize on President Trump’s behalf on pretty much every horror that he throws our way. Do Fox personalities back Trump when he sells out our allies in tandem with murderous tyrant Vladimir Putin? Yes, indeed. Do they support Trump when he tries to purge federal workers by the thousands to corruptly replace them with loyalists? Enthusiastically. Do they stick with Trump when he declares himself above the law, explicitly using the language of world-historical dictators to do so? Without reservations.

“But it turns out there are limits. One topic Fox personalities are not quite as willing to run interference for Trump on is the economy. And with signs mounting that Trump’s economy is hitting the skids, they are beginning to sound the alarm.”

Sargent provides some examples of the slippery slope emerging at Fox. They include…

“Maria Bartiromo practically shouted that ‘the jobs picture is weakening!'” [and]

“‘I think the boom times are over,’ Fox anchor Charles Payne declared.” [and]

“‘We are sliding towards a recession,’ Newt Gingrich fretted on Fox News.”

Sargent closed saying that…

“Trump’s overall political project is heavily dependent on an enormous network of propagandists and other pliant institutional players to sustain itself [and] to keep alive the fiction that it’s producing dramatic results.” […]

“If the public continues to sour on his economic performance, the deep cuts to government will look less about efficiency and instead appear maliciously, dangerously incompetent [and] they’ll sound like what they truly are — the rantings of a genuine wannabe dictator.”

Fox News may be unalterably worshipful of Trump, but they are also proponents of right-wing economic policies and the corporate interests that push them. So if Trump continues to lose Fox News due to his fumbling on the economy, he will have an even harder time corralling his GOP flock. And if that happens, the whole MAGA sandcastle will crumble. And it couldn’t come a moment too soon.

Fox News Trump-Fluffer Insists that the Coming Trump Recession Has Nothing To Do With Trump

In just a little more than a month, Donald Trump has managed to turn around the booming economy that he inherited from President Biden, and now finds himself presiding over some of worst stats on jobs, consumer confidence, and national debt, in years.

Click here to post this article on Twitter or Click here to post on Bluesky

Donald Trump, Stock Market

So naturally, Trump is lavishing heaps of praise upon himself for what an unbelievably fantastic job he is doing that surpasses every other American president from Christopher Columbus to Hunter Biden. He is convinced that his “stable genius[ness]” is solely responsible for the unparalleled good times that Americans are enjoying. In Trump’s warped mind, he is fulfilling his promise to run the country like he has run his businesses. Which is more of a threat than a promise.

SEE THIS: OH-NO! Trump WH Aide Brags They are Running the Country Like Trump and Musk Run Their Businesses

Friday morning Fox News leapt eagerly onto the Trump Train with reports of his mastery of the nation’s economy. Never mind that it has been speeding downhill ever since he reoccupied the White House. Case in point were the comments by Fox’s Maria Bartiromo, who had a brief moment of lucidity that quickly faded into the ether. She tried to whitewash criticism that Trump’s DOGE fiasco was not really all that bad…

“Can DOGE induce a recession? No, it can’t. You’re not gonna get a recession just from DOGE. Now, there are other things that have happened in this economy which is slowed down – we could see a recession. But it’s not gonna happen just because we’re cutting waste and abuse out of this government.”

Maria Bartiromo of Fox News is right that there won't be a recession "just from DOGE."No. It will be because of DOGE and several other idiotic initiatives of the Trump regime.

News Corpse (@newscorpse.bsky.social) 2025-03-07T18:32:31.274Z

First of all, DOGE hasn’t documented most of its announced cuts. and much of what it has announced has had to be rescinded because it was either false or destructive to the interests of the nation.

That said, Bartiromo is actually right that there we’re “not gonna get a recession just from DOGE.” No. It will be because of DOGE plus a barrage of other idiotic initiatives from the Trump regime. Her guest agreed, adding that more than 1.5 million government and social services employees “need to go.” Which would undoubtedly contribute to the recession that Bartiromo is predicting and that Trump is working so hard for.

However, as Bartiromo said in the same segment, none of this would be Trump’s fault. “It would be Biden’s recession,” she said, ignoring the fact that every proposal by Trump, and his MAGA minions in Congress, are what has steered the economy into the iceberg that Biden had so skillfully avoided. They include the work of Elon Musk’s DOGE, along with…

  • Threats of inflationary tariffs on American’s closest allies and trading partners
  • His termination of regulatory agencies that monitor corporate corruption
  • His efforts to deport millions of workers who keep the nation’s agriculture, hospitality, medical care, and construction sectors humming
  • His stubborn focus on bizarre and irrelevant matters (i.e. annexing Canada and Greenland, renaming the Gulf of Mexico, marketing cryptocurrency, etc.), rather than the real problems that plague the nation, many of which he caused.

So yeah, the impending recession would not be the result of just DOGE. Trump has had to orchestrate a plethora of problems in order to achieve his goal of sabotaging the economic health of everyone except for his oligarch bros. And despite his inbred incompetence, he’s doing a pretty good job of it.

Bartiromo, meanwhile, is fulfilling her function as a propaganda purveyor. These remarks about the recession followed her interview of Trump, that featured more of the obsequiousness that she has mastered. She has been so good at it that that Trump praised her in the Oval Office prior to their sit down…

Trump is so proud of himself for having the "courage" to be interviewed by Maria Bartiromo, the Senior Trump-Fluffer on Fox News. Which she demonstrates in this clip.

TRUMP IS TOAST: His Speech Draws Fewer Viewers than Any of His Prior State of the Union Addresses

While it seems like eons ago, Donald Trump came to the attention of most Americans via his schlocky reality TV show “The Apprentice,” where he play-acted being a successful businessman who weekly fired some poor schnook for not adequately performing a pointless task. The program was a clumsily scripted farce that had nothing to do with reality.

Click here to post this article on Twitter or Click here to post on Bluesky

Donald Trump Walking the Plank

The role that Trump hammed up so horribly has stayed with him throughout his foray into politics. He is still a miserable businessman whose ventures go belly up more often than not; he still gets off on firing people for no good reason, now with the help of his DOGE stooge, Elon Musk; and he is still driven by his egomaniacal dependency on constant attention and slobbering approval.

SEE THIS: OH-NO! Trump WH Aide Brags They are Running the Country Like Trump and Musk Run Their Businesses

With that in mind, it is likely that Trump is having a bad morning now that the ratings for his speech before the Joint Session of Congress have been released. As reported by Variety

“Donald Trump‘s address to Congress reached an average of 36.6 million viewers on Monday. That total puts the speech 13% above Joe Biden’s most recent State of the Union address, which reached 32.2 million viewers in 2024. Still, Trump didn’t manage to draw as large an audience as he did with any of his State of the Union addresses during his first term as president. His 2017 address reached 47.7 million viewers, followed by 45.6 million in 2018, 46.8 in 2019 and 37.2 million in 2020.”

So Trump’s ratings have been trending downward with almost every successive appearance for this annual address. That’s consistent with his decline in popular approval polling. In fact, a recent poll found that Trump ranked below every other president dating back to 1953. What’s more, the ratings for his inauguration placed 27% lower than those for President Biden’s. And you know that’s gotta tear at his innards.

In addition to Trump’s sinking ratings for his speeches, the breakdown of viewers isn’t anything to crow about either. Variety elaborates…

“Older viewers made up a significant majority of Trump’s audience. Nielsen notes that 70.7% of viewers were aged 55 or older, with 20.5% being 35-54 and 5.7% being 18-34. Additionally, viewership peaked from 9:45 p.m. to 10 p.m. ET, rising above the 36.6 million average to reach 37.9 million viewers.”

These numbers show that Trump’s viewing audience was heavily weighted toward seniors, whose interests he is actively working against. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office reports that the latest GOP proposal virtually guarantees that programs like Medicare, Medicaid, and even Social Security will have to suffer sharp cuts in both funding and staffing.

The numbers also reveal that Trump’s audience drifted away long before he finished at 10:30pm ET. Clearly he is not as beloved as he thinks he is. Except, that is, for one particular segment of the television audience. As Variety notes, the Fox News portion of the audience comprised nearly 30% of all viewers, with the remaining viewers being split by at least 12 other networks. So he was mostly preaching to the cult.

Trump will also be disappointed to hear the results of a CBS flash poll following his speech. The positive reaction in that poll was 44%, which is not only less than a majority, it was dead last for similar presidential addresses going back 25 years. And that’s despite the poll being over-represented by Republicans over Democrats by more than two to one.

Even though Republicans were over-represented in this CNN flash poll, positive reaction for Trump still ranked dead last going back 25 years.

News Corpse (@newscorpse.bsky.social) 2025-03-06T20:57:11.173Z

This is the current State of the Union, as far the present occupier of the White House is concerned. It certainly does not bode well for Trump or his wildly unpopular Cabinet, including whatever the heck Musk is. And it confirms that Trump has no mandate to impose his radical, neo-fascist agenda on the nation. Now all we need is for Democrats to come up with an effective strategy for opposing him.

Collected Quotes Displaying Trump’s Obsession with Himself In His Pseudo State of the Union Spiel

On Tuesday night, the first convicted felon and adjudicated rapist to ever deliver a speech before a joint session of Congress, Donald Trump, spent more than an hour and half unleashing his hallmark barrage of lies, insults, and self-exaltations, that he presented as a wildly perverse version of the state of the union (annotated transcript here).

Donald Trump Messiah

The American people, however, already know what state the union is in. They are paying more for everything, which is about to get worse after Trump’s tariffs kick in. They are watching him supplicating himself to Vladimir Putin, and betraying our democratic allies. And they see that his agenda is one that mirrors the failures of his personal businesses, which he threatens to impose on the nation.

The speech itself was an interminably long, boring, and bitterly divisive ordeal. And of course, the lies about everything including Social Security, immigration, energy, inflation, Ukraine, and so much more. The fact checkers are already having a field day unwinding his blitzkrieg of bullpucky (video below). So what follows here is a more narrowly defined collection of all the times that Trump referred to himself, rather than offering an appraisal of the status and outlook for the nation, which is typically what these speeches are about.

As usual, nothing about Trump is typical, particularly when he can focus exclusively on himself to satisfy his massive, yet fragile, ego. So without further ado, here the words of America’s foremost malignant narcissist and messiah in his own mind…

“Six weeks ago, I stood beneath the dome of this Capitol and proclaimed the dawn of the Golden Age of America. From that moment on, it has been nothing but swift and unrelenting action to usher in the greatest and most successful era in the history of our country.”
[Note: Swift and unrelenting? Sure. Successful? No way!]

“[O]ur country is on the verge of a comeback the likes of which the world has never witnessed, and perhaps will never witness again. Never been anything like it. The presidential election of November 5th was a mandate like has not been seen in many decades.”
[Note: Trump’s mandate was a massive 1.5%, which was indeed among the lowest in many decades]

“Now, for the first time in modern history, more Americans believe that our country is headed in the right direction than the wrong direction.”
[Note: this is precisely the opposite of reality]

“Joe Biden, the worst president in American history.”
[Note: This isn’t really about himself, but he just needed to throw it in]

“This is my fifth such speech to Congress, and once again, I look at the Democrats in front of me, and I realize there is absolutely nothing I can say to make them happy or to make them stand or smile or applaud, nothing I can do. I could find a cure to the most devastating disease and these people sitting right here will not clap.”
[Note: He could say, “I resign!” that would get him tons of applause]

“Upon taking office, I imposed an immediate freeze on all federal hiring, a freeze on all new federal regulations, and a freeze on all foreign aid. I terminated the ridiculous green new scam. I withdrew from the unfair Paris Climate Accord, which was costing us trillions of dollars that other countries were not paying. I withdrew from the corrupt World Health Organization, and I also withdrew from the anti-American U.N. Human Rights Council.”
[Note: It’s interesting that Trump can brag about a list of awful things that the American people oppose]

“I have stopped all government censorship and brought back free speech in America.”
[Note: Trump banned and/or removed news organizations from the White House and replaced them with MAGA media. And he even had a Democrat ejected from this address for exercising his free speech rights]

“I have created the brand new Department of Government Efficiency. DOGE! Perhaps you’ve heard of it, perhaps. Which is headed by Elon Musk.”
[Note: Funny, Trump previously had his lawyers tell a court that Musk is not the head of DOGE]

“I renamed the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America.”
[Note: Gee thanks. That will surely reduce the price eggs. And it has no effect on international maps]

“I signed an order making the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders, male and female.” [and] “I signed an executive order banning public schools from indoctrinating our children with transgender ideology.”
[Note: Trump thinks that he can dictate gender identity by declaration. And he’s claiming to ban something that never happens]

“There’s nobody gets treated worse than I do online. Nobody.”
[Note: Poor baby. And not remotely true]

“I was saved by God to make America great again.”
[Note: Trump’s messianic complex is showing again. And if god cared about making America great, the last person he would send is Trump, who has committed all seven of the deadly sins, and is proud of it]

Fox News Host Has Manic Meltdown Over the Trump Tax (Tariffs) that She Gets Completely Wrong

For many months Donald Trump has been touting his plans to impose tariffs on products from some of America’s closest allies and biggest trading partners, Canada, Mexico, and Europe. Add to that his increasing tariffs on China, and what you have is one of the biggest effective tax increases on the American people in history.

Fox News, Maria Bartiromo, Donald Trump

The news of Trump’s latest tariff threats going into effect have had a disastrous impact on the U.S. stock market. In two days the Dow has nosedived more than 1,500 points. That is the nation’s investors registering their stark disapproval of Trump’s assault on the domestic economy. They know that he is creating an unnecessary burden on American businesses and consumers. And he isn’t helping the 401K plans of workers and retirees either. But he is promising to run the country like he does his businesses. Which is more of a threat than a promise.

SEE THIS: OH-NO! Trump WH Aide Brags They are Running the Country Like Trump and Musk Run Their Businesses

On Fox News, Maria Bartiromo (a business correspondent before switching to Senior Trump-fluffer) did a segment on Trump’s tariffs wherein a reporter interviewed the owner of a car dealership in Pennsylvania. He may not have been the guy that Fox News meant to interview. He described his experience with a customer who was prepared a buy a Dodge Ram truck before the Trump tariffs kicked in. But now the $80,000 truck would cost $100,000 and the dealer said that “He’s not gonna buy the truck. It’s gonna sit on my lot and…nobody is gonna buy the truck because it just had a $20,000 price increase.”

Whereupon, Bartiromo tried to rescue the segment by unleashing a wildly flawed rant about the inequities of of international auto markets. She raged…

“Let me ask you this: How many Dodge Rams do you see driving around Europe? How many Dodge Rams do you see driving around India? I mean, not many. I bet. Why? Because they don’t buy our cars. And that’s what President Trump is trying to change. Maybe Dodge should start building them here and selling them here.”

Fox Business interviewed the owner of a Pennsylvania auto dealership who says of Trump's tariffs, "nobody is gonna buy the truck, because it just had $20,000 price increase … this is pretty radical."The show then cut back to Maria Bartiromo, who threw a tantrum.

Aaron Rupar (@atrupar.com) 2025-03-04T19:09:48.116Z

Let’s set aside the absurdity of how she framed her question, by asking if her viewers have seen any Dodge Rams trucks driving around Europe. As if her viewers are in Europe cataloguing cars by manufacturer. More to the point, she was typically wrong about every bit of data that she uttered. First of all, according to Motor Finance Online, the streets of Europe are teeming with trucks from Dodge…

“The European Environment Agency data reveals that nearly 5,000 Dodge RAMs were imported into Europe in 2023, marking a 20% increase from 2022. This brings the total number of Dodge RAMs on European roads to at least 20,000.”

Furthermore, contrary to Bartiromo’s ill-informed assertion, Dodge Rams are indeed sold here in America in large numbers. Nearly 90,000 in the third quarter of 2024 alone. And as for where they are made, most are manufactured in two plants located in Warren, and Sterling Heights, Michigan.

It never ceases to amaze how monumentally wrong these MAGA media propagandists are. It has to be intentional, because no one could really be that relentlessly stupid, could they? And as noted above, business is actually Bartiromo’s beat.

But in Trump World, everyone must have signed onto the agreement to always exalt Trump and anything he says, no matter how obviously untrue or utterly preposterous. And by that measure, Bartiromo, Fox News, and the rest of the MAGA media are doing an incredible job. Or more accurately, an un-credible job.

What If Trump Gave His State of the (Soviet) Union Speech and No Media Was There to Hear It?

Tuesday, March 4, 2025, is the designated day for Donald Trump to deliver what is referred to as a “Joint Session of Congress Address.” It serves as the first state of the union speech for the first year of a newly elected president. There is sometimes some controversy in the content of such speeches, but the fact that they occur is generally regarded as routine.

Donald Trump, Mocking Disability

However, controversy stains everything that Trump engages in. It’s by design from the convicted felon and adjudicated rapist who revels in creating chaos and making waves. Consequently, his appearance before Congress tonight is already stirring a tsunami among members of Congress, as well as the people who they purportedly serve. Although there are those who are anxiously anticipating his address…

SEE THIS: Russian TV Host: What Trump Says is ‘So Correct…In Total Alignment With the Way We See Things’

The question of how to deal with a president who has so flagrantly demonstrated his allegiance to America’s enemies is weighing on the members of Congress who would ordinarily be expected to attend the speech. Trump has proven by his words and deeds that he is more aligned with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, than with the values of America and its Constitution.

Trump’s overtly traitorous offenses include halting U.S. aid to Ukraine, advocating that the U.S. quit the U.N. and NATO, pushing for Russia to be readmitted to the G7 assembly of nations, and his conspicuous inability to ever say anything remotely critical of Putin, while repeatedly blasting American leaders in the most vile terms. Could he possibly be more of an asset to Russia?

As a result, the day prior to Trump’s address several members announced that they will not be attending. Others have said that they will attend, but bring with them guests who will highlight Trump’s animosity toward American principles and laws. There are rumors of other types of protests that might occur in the chamber during Trump’s speech.

What hasn’t been mentioned so far is: What will the media do? There are good arguments to be made that the press should not cover Trump’s speech live. After all, why present to American and international audiences the nearly incoherent rants of a notorious enemy of democracy? Why allow a certified Putin stooge to get an extended chunk of primetime television to advance the interests of America’s foes? Why should viewers have to suffer through the infantile insults that he unleashes every time he speaks? And why would a well known pathological liar be permitted to spread flagrant falsehoods unchallenged?

The press could easily record the event and replay any significant parts with a short delay. That would likely reduce the running to about two minutes due to the absence of anything significant in his speech. With the time delay the press would also have ample time to conduct appropriate fact checking. Which could increase the running time if they decided to report on all of Trump’s lies.

Finally, Trump has already demonstrated his hatred for the media that he refers to in Stalinist terms as “the enemy of the people.” He has barred credible news agencies from covering him, including the Associated Press and Reuters. He has replaced news outlets in the White House Press Briefing Room such as NBC News, the New York Times, and NPR, with the Trump-fluffing propagandists at Newsmax, One America News Network, the New York Post, and Breitbart.

It is Trump’s obvious intention to suppress the free press, ignoring the Constitution’s First Amendment protections. He seeks to emulate the censorious practices of his heroes, Putin, Xi Jinping, and Kim Jong Un. So why shouldn’t the press exercise its rights to report on him in an appropriate manner that respects their mission to keep the American people informed, and honors their duty to reporting the truth? And the best way to do that is to refrain from all live coverage of Trump, including tonight’s speech before Congress.
