President Biden Brings ‘Even Fox News’ Into His Appeal to Get More Americans Vaccinated

As the COVID pandemic continues to surge through the ranks of the nation’s unvaccinated, President Biden is taking more aggressive steps to quell the viral storm that has taken so many lives. Despite how easily the suffering and grief can be prevented, there are still far too many people being infected, hospitalized, and dying than need to be.

Fox News, Covid

Studies show that the majority of the unvaccinated are those attuned to the disinformation disseminated by Fox News and their anti-vax accomplices in the Republican Party. And the majority of those suffering the most severe consequences from exposure to COVID are the unvaccinated. Upwards of 90% of hospitalizations and fatalities are in that group.

Biden’s initiative seeks to halt the progress of the coronavirus and its evolving variants with a six step plan that he introduced in a speech to the nation on Thursday. As reported by CNN

“President Joe Biden on Thursday imposed stringent new vaccine rules on federal workers, large employers and health care staff in a sweeping attempt to contain the latest surge of Covid-19.

“The new requirements could apply to as many as 100 million Americans — close to two-thirds of the American workforce — and amount to Biden’s strongest push yet to require vaccines for much of the country.”

There was noticeable distress in Biden’s plea to the country (video below) due to the resistance in certain political circles. He expressed that in his speech saying that…

“‘We’ve been patient, but our patience is wearing thin, and your refusal has cost all of us,’ Biden said, his tone hardening toward Americans who still refuse to receive a vaccine despite ample evidence of their safety and full approval of one — the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine — from the US Food and Drug Administration.

“He said vaccinated America was growing ‘frustrated’ with the 80 million people who have not received shots and are fueling the spread of the virus. And he acknowledged the new steps would not provide a quick fix.”

Key to Biden’s plan is a Labor Department directive aimed at increasing the share of vaccinated workers. It’s a solution that doesn’t mandate that anyone get vaccinated, so long as they get tested regularly. But expect the right-wingers in the GOP and on Fox News to complain that it’s a violation of their freedom anyway. And that may be why Biden explicitly called out Fox News during his speech when he spoke of the workplace features on his plan:

“Tonight I’m announcing that the Department of Labor is developing an emergency rule that will require all employers with 100 or more employees, that together employ over 80 million workers, to ensure their workforces are fully vaccinated, or show a negative test at least once a week.

“Some of the biggest companies are already requiring this. United Airlines, Disney, Tyson’s food, and even Fox News. The bottom line: We’re gonna protect vaccinated workers from unvaccinated coworkers. We’re gonna reduce the spread of COVID-19 by increasing the share of the workforce that is vaccinated in businesses all across America.”

The inclusion of Fox News in this address is Biden’s attempt to bring in a sector of the American people that ordinarily wouldn’t pay any attention to what he has to say. After all, Fox’s most watched programs have actively disparaged vaccines and other virus mitigation efforts. Tucker Carlson told his viewers that vaccines don’t work and “they” aren’t telling you. Sean Hannity has sowed vaccine doubts by pretending to support the science, even while insisting that no one should listen to him. Laura Ingraham mocked Biden for following CDC guidance.

What makes this especially difficult is that the Fox News disciples have been programmed to reject science. That may still be the case. But it was still necessary for Biden to give this a shot. Considering the fact that Fox News viewers are the biggest obstacle to a return to normalcy, they need to be reached in order for any plan to work.

Let’s hope that they can finally set aside their political prejudices and willful ignorance long enough to care about the lives of their families, friends, neighbors, coworkers, and country. It may be a long shot, but it’s one that must be taken.

Trump to Spend the 20th Anniversary of 9/11 Babbling at a Boxing Match for $50 a Pop

This weekend it will be twenty years since the worst terrorist attack on American soil. The planes that flew into the World Trade Centers in Manhattan, the Pentagon, and a field in Pennsylvania, took more than 3,000 lives and injured more than 25,000. Many more – including first responders – have suffered with lingering, debilitating and, in some cases, fatal health problems due to toxic conditions on the ground.

Donald Trump

This is a solemn anniversary for which most Americans will be remembering the victims and their families, and paying tribute to the heroes. However, there is one uncommonly clamorous, pseudo-patriot who will be commemorating the day in an especially selfish and callous manner.

That’s right, rather than respecting the memory of a sorrowful day in America’s recent history, Donald Trump will be partying with his boxing pals at the Hard Rock Café in Hollywood, Florida. It’s not even a title match, but an exhibition staged by a couple of fight club relics.

This “entertainment” event was produced solely to put dollars in the pockets of the producers and the fighters. So naturally, Trump had to weasel his way into it to grab some green for himself. His cult followers will gladly fork over fifty bucks each to hear Trump announce the fight. And he will be doing it along with his son, Don Jr. What a bargain.

The promotion for the fight reveals that “President Trump” will provide “live in-person commentary” (that should be “former” president Trump). Trump’s picture is featured between the two fighters, Vitor Belfort and Evander Holyfield. Holyfield was a late replacement for Oscar De La Hoya, who had to cancel due to contracting COVID-19.

Ironically, there are likely to be even more COVID victims because vaccinations and face masks are not required at the Hard Rock. That’s actually the case throughout the state of Florida, that has become the nation’s Hot Zone for coronavirus infections, hospitalizations, and deaths. In fact, Governor Ron DeSantis has deprioritized measures to mitigate transmission (masks and vaccines), in favor of treating people after they get sick. Sadly, that is often too late.

Meanwhile, on 9/11 President Biden will visit all three sites where planes crashed. He will be joined by Vice-President Kamala Harris at the Pentagon and in Pennsylvania. So while Biden is offering a dignified and compassionate opportunity for the nation to come together and commiserate, Trump will be getting paid to provide his sappy commentary for a couple of geezers beating each other up. Could there be anything more Trumpian?

UPDATE I: To confirm the depth of Trump’s madness, he was asked who he would fight if he were in the ring. He replied “I think probably my easiest fight would be Joe Biden because I think he’d go down very, very quickly. […] I think Biden would go down within the first few seconds.” Not only is this an indication of his obsessive jealousy and hostility, it’s downright delusional that he thinks he would beat Biden who bikes and jogs regularly, while he can barely carry his morbidly obese frame down a low-incline ramp.

UPDATE II: As expected, Trump couldn’t help injecting his election fraud BS into his fight commentary in a manner that affirms his mental decline. Discussing the decision after less than one round, he blurted out that “It’s like the elections. It could be rigged.”

REALLY? Fox News Blames Low Vaccination Rates on Biden and Black Americans

For more than a year and a half, Fox News has been doing everything in its power to aid and abet the unimpeded progress of the coronavirus. They have been working feverishly to undermine the efforts of responsible health professionals and government agencies. When they weren’t downplaying the severity of the virus, they were spreading lies that the vaccines don’t work and “they” aren’t telling you.

Fox News, Vaccine

This long running Fox News narrative is closely aligned with Donald Trump’s COVID disinformation. He admitted early on – in private, just like how he got his vaccination – that he was aware of how deadly the pandemic could be, but deliberately downplayed it in public. He is still trying furiously to steer his cult disciples away from getting vaccinated. And so is Fox News.

On Tuesday Fox News did a segment with Liz Peek, a Fox contributor and business consultant. When the discussion turned to the status of vaccinations in the U.S., Peek launched into a spiel that sought to lay the blame for America’s unvaccinated on President Biden and the nation’s African Americans:

“The situation wouldn’t even exist if Joe Biden had brought the country together as he promised to do in a common single cause of getting everybody vaccinated, I think this is part of a bigger story, which is the failure of the President to get Americans to take the shot. Only 62% of American adults have been vaccinated.” […]

“The Biden administration, and Joe Biden himself, politicized this effort. This hardens attitudes when you start pointing fingers at Republicans, saying, ‘Oh, it’s these loony right-wingers that are refusing to take the shot,’ and not acknowledging that there are a lot of people, including a lot of African-Americans, who have been resistant and doubtful of these vaccines, you’re really making a big mistake. I really put this on the White House.'”

Huh? It was the Biden administration that succeeded in getting record numbers of people vaccinated. At its peak there were upwards of four million vaccinations a day. That’s four times what was achieved during the Trump administration.

What’s more, the Washington Post reports that “there are about four times as many Republicans as Black people in the ranks of the unvaccinated.” And the vast majority of the unvaccinated population are Republicans and Fox News viewers. An NBC News poll last month found that a whopping 91% of Biden voters are already vaccinated, as compared to only 50% of Trump voters.

For Fox News to point fingers at Biden and Black Americans as being responsible for those who have not been vaccinated is profoundly dishonest and downright racist. And then they have the audacity to accuse Biden of politicizing the issue. However, this isn’t the first time they’ve pulled this malarkey. Last month Laura Ingraham of Fox News invited Texas’ GOP Lt. Governor Dan Patrick to spread more pandemic disinformation. Patrick also ventured into the low vaccination rates saying that…

“Democrats like to blame Republicans on that. Well, the biggest group in most states are African-Americans who have not been vaccinated. And the last time I checked, over 90% of them vote for Democrats.”

That was also an easily provable – and grossly racist – lie. The truth, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, is that “unvaccinated White Texans outnumber unvaccinated Black Texans roughly three to one.”

This is standard operating procedure for Fox News and their Trump Republican benefactors. They take every opportunity to shift blame for anything that reflects poorly on them to Democrats and Blacks. Never mind the facts. Their audience isn’t going to check them or care. They prefer to be lied to and to have their prejudices affirmed. That’s what keeps them coming back to Fox for more.

Twitter Trolls are Lying About Rachel Maddow Spreading COVID Misinformation

Donald Trump and his Republican Party have embraced lying as an indispensable tool in their political tool chest. Their brazen disregard for honesty is demonstrated with nearly every public utterance they make. Trump alone has racked up an appalling record of more than 30,000 lies during his single term as president. All of which is obediently disseminated by their Ministry of Disinformation (aka Fox News).

Rachel Maddow

So naturally, these Olympic-grade truth manglers are anxious to project their reality warping antics onto the Democrats and liberals they so fervently despise. And, unsurprisingly, one of their primary targets would be MSNBC’s star host, Rachel Maddow.

On Sunday morning Maddow’s name was trending on Twitter. However the reason was typically devoid of facts or logic. The conservative Twitter trolls were all a flitter because they thought they had caught Maddow in a gross misrepresentation of coronavirus information. The subject concerned the dangerously inappropriate use of a horse dewormer, Ivermectin, to “cure” COVID. That’s a subject that Maddow has covered in detail. But the latest melodrama all sprung from this tweet by Maddow and the right-wing’s knee-jerk rebuttal:

The tweet by Maddow linked to a story by KFOR, a local Oklahoma television station. So right off the bat, she was not making any statements for which she could be blamed if they were inaccurate. And spoiler alert: They were not inaccurate. The station’s newscast interviewed a rural Oklahoma doctor who gave his account of how the state’s health systems were holding up during the COVID Delta variant surge that has been ravaging mostly Republican led states like Oklahoma. KFOR reported that…

“Dr. [Jason] McElyea said patients are packing his eastern and southeastern Oklahoma hospitals after taking ivermectin doses meant for a full-sized horse, because they believed false claims the horse de-wormer could fight COVID-19.

“‘The ERs are so backed up that gunshot victims were having hard times getting to facilities where they can get definitive care and be treated. […] All of their ambulances are stuck at the hospital waiting for a bed to open so they can take the patient in and they don’t have any.'”

While all of that is easily verifiable, the Twitter trolls latched unto a statement released by a hospital network with which Dr. McElyea was affiliated. The statement said that…

“Although Dr. Jason McElyea is not an employee of NHS Sequoyah, he is affiliated with a medical staffing group that provides coverage for our emergency room. With that said, Dr. McElyea has not worked at our Sallisaw location in over 2 months. NHS Sequoyah has not treated any patients due to complications related to taking ivermectin.”

From that statement the wingnut contingent immediately started blasting Maddow as the great falsifier. They charged that the entire story was sham because the doctor was not an employee of the NHS. They demanded that Twitter punish her with a suspension or a total ban for allegedly disseminating COVID disinformation. Glenn Greenwald was among those clamoring for Maddow’s head. GOP Ohio Senate candidate J.D. Vance ranted that “Alex Jones is a far more reputable source” than Maddow. Trump crony Sebastian Gorka railed “Hey Maddow you lie.”

There’s just one problem. The statement by the NHS was completely irrelevant. Neither KFOR nor Dr. McElyea ever mentioned the NHS or the circumstances at that particular hospital. The doctor did not claim to be speaking as an NHS employee, but instead as an observer of Oklahoma’s health system. And multiple sources affirm what Dr. McElyea said. for instance…

Oklahoma health officials are choosing to keep hospital capacity data under wraps as some of the state’s major health systems announce they have zero ICU beds open.”

According to Oklahoma Hospital Association President Patti Davis, ‘We know that patients are being transferred out of state for beds.'”

The situation in Oklahoma is unquestionably dire, despite the Republican governor’s efforts to hide the facts. The medical professionals in the field know exactly what’s going on, and they aren’t afraid to talk about it. That includes Dr. McElyea.

But reality has never stopped conservative deceivers from muddying the water and misleading their dimwitted followers who will never do their own research. Which is how they get roped into ingesting poisons like Ivermectin in the first place. And as usual, Fox News couldn’t care less if they live or die. And neither does Donald Trump.

UPDATE: Not surprisingly, Fox News joined the Twitter Trolls who falsely claimed that the KFOR story was false. They relied heavily on tweets by Drew Holden, an independent, right-wing “reporter” who ironically chastises Maddow and “the left” for not researching the story, when obviously he didn’t. Fox News didn’t either.

Super Spreader Trump Says He ‘Probably Won’t’ Get a COVID Vaccine Booster Shot

America’s foremost promoter of the coronavirus pandemic, Donald Trump, has an unmatched record of dispensing disinformation about COVID-19. It began in the earliest days of the pandemic when he deliberately downplayed of the severity of the virus, despite knowing full well how potentially deadly it was. And it continued through his promotion of quack cures like hydroxychloroquine and bleach injections.

Donald Trump, coronavirus

Throughout the past year and a half Trump has also held numerous cult rallies with his maskless, vaccine-averse followers. And when he got vaccinated himself, he did it secretly. As a result of this anti-vaccine attitude by Trump and conservative media like Fox News, a new NPR-PBS NewsHour-Marist poll shows that only 62% of Republicans say that they have already been vaccinated or will get vaccinated. That compares to 95% of Democrats.

Recently there has been talk of a booster shot to enhance and elongate the efficacy of the vaccines. And on Friday the Wall Street Journal asked Trump whether he intended to get a booster shot when it is available. Trump replied…

“I feel like I’m in good shape from that standpoint, I probably won’t. I’ll look at stuff later on. I’m not against it, but it’s probably not for me.”

First of all, given Trump’s penchant for lying about everything, there’s a pretty good chance he’s already had his booster shot, or will get one and not tell anybody. Meanwhile, Trump is continuing to downplay the common sense methods of mitigating the harm of the coronavirus. When he was asked last month about booster shots he told Fox News that it “sounds to me like a money-making operation from Pfizer. […] You wouldn’t think you would need a booster.” Elaborating, he added…

“Think of the money involved. Tens of billions…how good a business is that? If you’re a pure businessman you’ll say, ‘You know what? Let’s give them another shot. That’s another ten billion dollars of money coming in. The whole thing is just crazy.”

To Trump everything is about the grift. That’s how he ran his business (and his political operations), so he assumes that it’s how everyone business is run. Even though he has tried to take credit for the vaccines, he learned recently at a rally that he can’t talk about them in a positive light. When he told the crowd that vaccines were safe and recommended them, he got booed. He then quickly backpedaled adding “I believe totally in your freedoms, I do, you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do.”

Just as he has spent most of the last year and a half downplaying the tragic and deadly risks that people are facing, Trump still seems determined to kill off more Americans by convincing them that there isn’t any real threat and they don’t need need to take simple steps to insure the safety of themselves, their families, their communities, and their nation. It’s a selfish and dangerous message that will undoubtedly cause more suffering and grief. But Trump never cared about that before, and apparently, he still doesn’t care about it now.

Tucker Carlson of Fox News Advocates Getting Fake Vaccination Cards – Which is a Felony

Fox News has been at the forefront of the pro-COVID, anti-vax movement for more than a year and a half. Their callously political aversion to common sense methods of mitigating the harm of the deadly coronavirus pandemic has resulted in the latest surge that can be accurately attributed to the “Fox News Variant” that is infecting and killing Americans at record levels.

Fox News, Tucker Carlson, Coronavirus

While most of the Fox News roster is spreading disinformation about COVID, no one is more committed to propagating lethal lies than Tucker Carlson. He has promoted the use of quack cures, espoused paranoid conspiracy theories that the vaccines don’t work, and even exhorted his viewers to make false police reports of child abuse against parents whose children wear face masks.

On Thursday’s episode of Carlson’s White Nationalist Hour on Fox News, he went farther over the cliff of sanity than ever before (video below). In a border line criminal tirade, Carlson appeared to advocate that his dimwitted audience commit felony counterfeiting, fraud, and unlawful use of a government seal. He was triggered by the news that “[New York District Attorney Cyrus] Vance has just charged thirteen Americans with felonies for buying fake vaccination cards.”

“Fifteen people are facing charges connected to a fake Covid-19 vaccination card conspiracy involving the sale of forged cards and the fraudulent entry of people into New York’s vaccination database, the office of Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. announced in a news release Tuesday. […] They are each charged with one count of criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second degree. One of those people is also charged with offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree — for paying to be entered into the state’s vaccine database.”

Naturally, Carlson regards these alleged crooks as innocent victims of political persecution and even heroes. He effusively praised the felonious lunks saying that…

“In good conscience, they’ve risked their careers to preserve their right to bodily autonomy and now they’re in jail for that. Now these arrests will be used to justify digital health passports for the entire American population. That is true. Save this tape.”

Of course, Carlson’s support for “bodily autonomy” doesn’t extend to women who seek to exercise their constitutional rights to reproductive choice. Nor to children who would prefer not to be riddled with bullets while attending school. Nor to humans who like their planets to have inhabitable climates.

Furthermore, those arrested are not in jail for seeking to preserve any “rights.” They were charged with purchasing fake documents and falsifying government records. But Carlson has decided on his own that those aren’t crimes. He continued his rant by dismissing the charges by Vance that…

“‘Making, selling and purchasing forged vaccination cards are serious crimes, with serious public safety consequences,’ end quote.

“Except that’s a lie. Buying a fake vaccination card is not a, quote, ‘serious crime,’ It’s not even close to a serious crime. Buying a fake vaccination card is an act of desperation by decent, law-abiding Americans who have been forced into a corner by tyrants. You know what’s a serious crime? Forcing Americans to take drugs they don’t need or want. That’s a very serious crime. And let’s hope, in the end, someone is punished for it, severely.”

Note that Carlson began his harangue by saying that those arrested were charged with felonies. But here he’s saying that “It’s not even close to a serious crime.” Rather, Carlson is sympathetic toward these criminals because they’re “desperate.” And despite their having committed actual crimes, they are also “law-abiding.” And to Carlson, the real criminals are those who are trying to save lives by preventing the spread of the pandemic. And Carlson hopes that they are punished for it.

Carlson needs to be advised that no one is forcing anyone “to take drugs they don’t need or want.” If somebody doesn’t want to take the vaccine, they don’t have to. But there are consequences for every choice made by free people. And access to places where an unvaccinated person could infect others may be prohibited.

This isn’t unusual. If you don’t pass a driver’s test, you don’t get to drive a car. In many states, If you don’t provide identification, you don’t get to vote. If you don’t submit the proper forms to the government tyrants you can[‘t hunt or fish. If you don’t complete the school curriculum, you don’t get a diploma or a job that requires one.

Maybe Carlson would encourage you to just buy counterfeit versions of those documents as well. In one way or another they are all state or state-affiliated institutions controlling an individual’s access to certain societal privileges. But in Carlson’s world, that sort of regulatory red tape is tantamount to authoritarian oppression.

Maybe someone should examine Carlson’s vaccination card (which is required at Fox News), and his driver’s license, and his college diploma. Judging by his remarks, there’s a pretty good chance that they are all forgeries.

Vaccine Truthers at Fox News Say FDA Approval Was a Distraction From Afghanistan

The relentless determination of Fox News to propagate phony stories and contrived outrage can really be rather impressive at times. And on Tuesday morning America’s foremost right-wing propaganda source pulled a twofer, slandering President Biden and the COVID vaccine in one dangerously dishonest segment.

Fox News, Covid

On Monday the FDA announced that it was giving a full approval of the Pfizer vaccine as a safe and effective means of preventing infection and transmission of the coronavirus. It took only minutes before Fox News was trashing the FDA and its motives. They asserted that the approval was rushed in the same segment in which they also asked “What took so long.”

On Tuesday morning the “Curvy Couch” potatoes at Fox and Friends called in their medical contributor, Dr. Marty Makary, to comment on matters for which he had no qualifications. He was asked by co-host Brian Kilmeade about what he claimed was suspect timing for the FDA approval. Whereupon Makary accused the Biden administration of using the announcement of the FDA’s full approval of the COVID vaccine as a distraction from critical stories about the Afghanistan withdrawal (video below):

“Three days after the viral video [of the Afghan airport] the FDA is going to approve the vaccine after sitting on it for nine months.”

Makary, of course, has no expertise in either media analysis or military strategies. But that didn’t stop him from questioning the FDA’s action. Nor did the same ignorance on Kilmeade’s part prevent him from implying that the FDA’s decision – that Makary said was held for nine months – was too rushed, and then issued for political purposes:

“All of a sudden, out of nowhere, the FDA is going to give full approval to the Pfizer vaccine. And then that becomes a leak, and that becomes an announcement. Do you believe the timing is curious? […] They make people doubt, because they look at this timing and they say wait a second, does it really get full FDA approval? Do we really need a booster shot? What are we worried about?

The one constant in all of the COVID coverage by Fox News is to trivialize the pandemic, disparage the vaccine, and frighten their audience away from partaking in it. Tucker Carlson has claimed outright that it doesn’t work and that the authorities are hiding that “fact” from you. And Donald Trump told his cult rally that it was just a money making operation.” Meanwhile, Fox peddles toxic snake oil cures like the horse dewormer, Ivermectin.

Then there is the charge that the FDA was participating in a White House plot to deflect from news about Afghanistan. Makary and Kilmeade had zero evidence of any such scheme or any explanation for why the independent FDA would go along with it. It was purely floated to malign the FDA, the vaccine, and the Biden administration’s kept promise to finally end the twenty year long war. Although it might be an improvement over their previous attack on First Lady Jill Biden as being at fault for everything.

In the end, Fox News is going to cause more suffering and grieving as a result of their pro-COVID propaganda. Simultaneously, they will disinform their viewers about the progress of the Afghanistan withdrawal, while inciting more racist responses to the arrival of Afghani refugees who helped American troops for the past couple of decades. Fox News doesn’t care about any of these adverse and anti-American consequences, or the harm to human lives. Because the only thing they care about is their Republican power grab, and advancing their ultra-rightist agenda. And

Fox News and Right-Wingers Are Already Trashing the FDA Approval of the COVID Vaccine

For months the vaccine resisters of America have been rejecting any consideration of getting the shot that science has established will prevent severe illness and death due to the COVID pandemic. Their doubts rested partly on the fact that it had only been given an “Emergency Use Authorization” by the FDA. To Donald Trump’s cult followers and Fox News devotees that meant that the vaccine wasn’t safe and its promoters were charlatans seeking some sort of population control or other nefarious objective. Trump himself ranted that the vaccine booster shots were a “money making operation” and not needed.

Fox News, Vaccine

On Monday morning the FDA announced that it had given its full approval to the Pfizer vaccine. That news will result in many public and private enterprises advancing their efforts to get more people vaccinated. Many unvaccinated persons have indicated that this approval would resolve their concerns and lead to them finally getting the shot.

Unfortunately, the most vaccine averse among us may still be opposed to this simple, common solution to a lethal problem. These are the same dimwits who have to be told not to take horse dewormers to cure COVID. And they have already begun to disparage the FDA approval that they had previously insisted they were waiting for. That disparagement was seen early by none other than Fox News, of course. They introduced a panel discussion about the FDA’s announcement by questioning the integrity of the institution and it’s processes:

“FDA just giving full approval to Pfizer’s COVID vaccine, it’s the first vaccine to get that full approval and in record time too, that has critics asking if the process was rushed. Was it?”

The critics to whom Fox’s Dana Perino was referring are most likely her colleagues like Tucker Carlson, who preaches the paranoid conspiracy theory that vaccines don’t work and “they” aren’t telling you. She may also be referring to Trump’s former trade advisor, Peter Navarro, who tweeted that…

“This is what caving to political pressure looks like. Pfizer vaccine is leady and non-durable and risks are mounting. If we had tried to pulled this kind of sh**T in the Trump White…fill in blank. F.D.A. Grants Full Approval”

Setting aside Navarro’s difficulties with the English language, it is notable that his credentials are in economics, not medicine. And judging by his disastrous tenure with the Trump administration, his economic advice is nothing to brag about either.

Also weighing in is America’s foremost conspiracy crackpot, Alex Jones. The Infowars host and dubious vitamin supplement peddler is distancing himself from Trump on the matter of vaccines. On Saturday Trump told those attending his travelling salvation show that they should get vaccinated. Although he tempered that suggestion by assuring them that they have the right to refuse. Which is another way of saying that they have the right to remain more vulnerable to sickness and death for them and those with whom they come in contact.

Jones objected to this stance on Trump’s part. He accused Trump of caving in to the mainstream media saying that he “clicks his heels and hops up there to attention” whenever NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Zucker and/or CNN snaps their fingers. Then Jones concluded saying…

“Shame on you Trump. Seriously. Hey, if you don’t have the good sense to save yourself and your political career, that’s OK. At least you’re gonna get some good Republicans elected and we like you. But my god, maybe you’re not that bright. Maybe Trump’s actually a dumbass.”

Uh-oh. How will Trump respond to his pal Jones calling him a “dumbass”? Furthermore, how will Trump respond to getting booed by his own disciples when he advocated for getting vaccinated? In all likelihood, the answer is the same for both. Trump will bend to whatever position gets him the most adulation and increases donations.

Trump’s motivations are entirely driven by his narcissism and greed. In his cloistered world, nothing else matters. And despite the FDA’s full approval of the Pfizer vaccine, Trump will undoubtedly rush to support those who are denigrating the vaccine and the FDA. Because his personal and political goals will always take precedence over saving lives and preserving the physical, financial, and emotional well being of the American people.

Rachel Maddow Fractures Fox News For Hawking a Horse Dewormer as a COVID Cure

Apparently it wasn’t bad enough that Fox News contributed to tens of thousands of deaths, and even more severe illnesses, by downplaying the severity of the coronavirus as a flu or a hoax. And apparently they weren’t satisfied with the suffering they’ve caused by convincing their glassy-eyed viewers that vaccines either aren’t necessary, or don’t work, or are constraints on their freedom imposed by autocrats intent on enslaving them.

Fox News, Cov-Aid

Fox’s efforts have led to what can now be accurately designated the Pandemic of Fox News.” Their primetime purveyors of pandemic bullpucky are clearly determined to propagate even more pain.

To that end Fox News began prescribing another phony cure for the plague that they’ve been reluctant to admit exists. Despite the potential for having a positive impact on their audience, Fox continues to prove that they just don’t care. Previously they tried hype hydroxychloroquine, an anti-malarial drug for which there is no evidence of efficacy treating COVID, other than the grossly misinformed word of Donald Trump. But now they’ve moved on to Ivermectin, a horse dewormer.

Yes, you read that right. And you aren’t the only one to be stunned by the sheer idiocy of this media quackery. When MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow heard about it she launched into a righteous condemnation of both the reckless advice and the Fox News advisors (video below):

“The Mississippi State Department of Health confirming today that ‘At least 70% of the recent calls to poison control in Mississippi have been related to livestock or animal formulations of Ivermectin, purchased at livestock supply centers.

“Why are people taking livestock formulations of Ivermectin Mississippi? That’s a horse dewormer. Literally, people won’t take the vaccine because they’re super suspicious of that, but they’re taking horse deworming medication that they’re buying at a feed store? For COVID? Why, on top of everything else Mississippi has to deal with right now, why are they dealing with this? I don’t know, but I have a guess.”

Whereupon Maddow plays clips of the three Fox News primetime hosts peddling Ivermectin to their viewers:

Laura Ingraham: We know that our FDA has in many ways failed us by not allowing for the use of Ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine, both of which are used around the world to reduce COVID hospitalizations and death.
Sean Hannity: I pelted them with questions about COVID-19 and the vaccine and therapeutics hydroxychloroquine, Ivermectin … as well as other proactive treatments and practices that are already helping COVID -19 patients all across the country.
Tucker Carlson: On June 5th [Bret] Weinstein discussed the benefits of a drug called Ivermectin, which can and is used around the world to treat and prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Maddow then points out that there has only been one “significant” study connecting Ivermectin to COVID, but that it was withdrawn “because the data in it was apparently faked and the introduction to it was apparently plagiarized.” To date, no one on Fox News has withdrawn their advocacy of the drug. As Maddow noted in her closing…

“Nevertheless, Fox News is busy saying, ‘Don’t take the vaccine, but do take this horse deworming medication, trust us, it is proven.’ You could trust them or you could trust the FDA that says ‘Do not take Ivermectin for COVID.’ Or the NIH that says ‘Do not take Ivermectin for COVID.’ Or the WHO that says ‘Do not take Ivermectin for COVID.’ Even the company that makes the drug that says ‘My god, seriously people. Do not take Ivermectin for COVID.'”

You might think that that would finally be enough for Fox News to step back and retract their potentially lethal “reporting.” If so, you just know Fox News.

Fox News Spreads Racist Lie that Blacks are Most Responsible for Spreading COVID

Fox News is the undisputed leader in disseminating disinformation about the coronavirus pandemic. Their top primetime hosts persistently downplay the severity of the crisis that they belittle as nothing more than the flu. Simultaneously they disparage efforts to mitigate its proliferation by taking such common sense measures as getting vaccinated and wearing face masks.

Fox News, KKK

Fox’s status as America’s top pro-COVID “news” network is affirmed by research finding that Fox News viewers significantly trail viewers of other media in getting vaccinated. This is unsurprising considering that their highest rated program host, Tucker Carlson, has articulated the false and paranoid view that vaccines don’t work and “they” aren’t telling you. And Sean Hannity is singing the same hymn as he assures his audience that “I never told anyone to get a vaccine. I’ve been very clear. I am simply not qualified. I’m not a medical doctor.”

On Thursday night their colleague Laura Ingraham joined the choir with an interview of Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick. Ingraham was committed to providing Patrick with a platform to make implausible and brazenly racist excuses for why Texas is currently among the worst states in the nation suffering from a surge in COVOD cases and fatalities. And Patrick took full advantage of it:

Ingraham: They’re coming after your state cause the increased COVID numbers, hospitalizations, deaths, are up in Texas. And there’s a direct assault on your governor’s policies and your state’s policies. A very brief response.
Patrick: The COVID is spreading particularly, most of the numbers are with the unvaccinated. And the Democrats like to blame Republicans on that. Well, the biggest group in most states are African-Americans who have not been vaccinated. And the last time I checked, over 90% of them vote for Democrats in the major cities and major counties.

So it’s up to the Democrats to get, just as it is up to Republicans, to try to get as many people vaccinated. But we respect the fact that if people don’t want the vaccination, we’re not going to force it on them. That’s their individual right. But in terms of criticizing the Republicans for this? We’re encouraging people who want to take it to take it, but they’re doing nothing for the African American community that has a significant high number of unvaccinated people.

Ingraham’s question began by invoking sympathy for Patrick as a “victim” of unnamed nefarious actors “coming after” Texas and it’s policies that have made it a COVID hot zone. Notice that Patrick acknowledged that the unvaccinated are the problem, which sharply contrasts with his opposition to taking steps to mandate vaccinations or masks for those who refuse. However, he then immediately diverted his response to place the blame entirely on African-Americans, not just in Texas, but throughout the country.

Of course the blame that Patrick is casting on unvaccinated Blacks is shared by the Democrats for whom they vote. Patrick is shamelessly politicizing the issue by creating a wholly contrived distinction between Republicans and Blacks. He views the Republicans who don’t get vaccinated as freedom-loving patriots with free will. Blacks, on the other hand, he sees as trouble makers whose ignorance is responsible for exacerbating a deadly plague.

More to the point, Patrick’s core problem is that he is dead wrong about the biggest group of unvaccinated Texans. It isn’t even close. The Washington Post reports on “U.S. Census Bureau data collected in July and August that suggests unvaccinated White Texans outnumber unvaccinated Black Texans roughly three to one.”

Patrick is purposely conflating vaccination rates with the actual numbers of persons who haven’t been vaccinated. Anyone paying even glancing attention would know that the majority white population would harbor a much larger number of the unvaccinated. It’s true that some Blacks have been resistant to vaccines due to past experiences with a medical establishment that has exhibited patterns of systemic racism. But much of the conservative Republican cult is outright hostile to vaccines. And while Blacks can be persuaded with information from trusted sources, the white-wingers have hardened views that are cast in stone.

This attempt by Patrick, via Fox News, to cast blame for the pandemic surge on Blacks is just the latest example of their overt racism. They will always seek out ways to find people of color at fault for any and every problem. And this episode proves that even when the facts completely contradict their narrative, they will twist them until they find a way to them fit.
