Mark October 16 As The Official Start Of The Fox News War On Christmas For 2014

Today Christians across the Fox Nation are celebrating the beginning of the high holy days that usher in the season of spiritual hostility better known as the “War On Christmas.” As tradition dictates. Fox News made the official announcement with a declaration that the government is trampling on some perceived religious liberty.

This year the devotees are honoring their German brothers by swapping the War on Christmas language for “No Tannenbaum: Federal Regs to Target ‘Hazardous’ Christmas Lights.” And as usual, the disciples weigh in with their own righteous testimony.

Fox Nation War on Christmas

The Christian soldiers of Fox Nation are up in arms over new federal regulations aimed at reducing the injuries, including fatalities, caused by faulty lighting and other electrical decorative products. The Consumer Product Safety Commission proposed the new requirements saying that…

“Consumers can be seriously injured or killed by electrical shocks or fires if seasonal and decorative lighting products are not made using minimum wire size, sufficient strain reliefs, or over-current protection.”

The agency noted that since 1980, more than 250 people have been killed when decorative lights malfunction. However, in the view of the anti-Big Government Tea-Publican Crusaders, that’s a small price to pay for festive home ornaments. So Happy Holidays everybody. The war is on.

Merry (War On) Christmas: Bill O’Reilly Declares Victory – Again

The Fox News driven War On Christmas is a peculiar conflict that only seems to flare up every year after Thanksgiving. Apparently both sides go into retreat between New Year’s Day and Halloween. But that isn’t the only peculiarity about this war.

Bill O'Reilly
Fox News’ general in the battlefield is Wily Bill O’Reilly. He is by far the most dominant figure in the war. And for proof of that, just ask him. Not only does he take the point every year by exposing any alleged assault on a nativity scene that his staff alerts him to, he proudly boasts about the success of his warrior crusade. Just this week he declared victory, an announcement that hopefully will put an end to the seemingly endless conflagration:

O’Reilly: We challenged them! So, therefore, it isn’t a mythical war on Christmas. It’s real and we just won!

That would be a profound turning point in the Christmas Wars except for the fact that O’Reilly had previously declared victory five years ago:

O’Reilly: “The Factor’s” reporting on Christmas is one of the most important things we’ve done. The underlying assault on this federal holiday is spelled out in my book, “Culture Warrior” if you have an interest. But the bottom line is this. We won.

How many times will Wily Bill claim to have emerged victorious in the same war? Generally when you have vanquished your enemies you do not have to re-vanquish them the following year. But that’s the peculiarity of a war that is waged for ratings, profit, and the adoration of dimwitted troops bravely manning their sofas with remotes at the ready.

So America can thank O’Reilly for saving Christmas – twice – and for preserving the true spirit of the holiday season that he described with such heartfelt earnestness when he said…

“Every company in America should be on its knees thanking Jesus for being born. Without Christmas, most American businesses would be far less profitable.”

If that joyful expression of profit over prophet doesn’t jingle your bells you are two steps lower than Scrooge. So get with the program and join O’Reilly’s crusade for the traditional values that honor greed and corporatism. It’s a vision of the holiday season that was expressed so artfully in music by Miles Davis and Bob Dorough in this classic Christmas carol: Blue Xmas.

Fox News Is Right: There Really Is A War On Christmas – By Racist Christians

Last week Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly stirred the War On Christmas pot again while adding a new racially charged component by insisting that “Santa Claus just is white” (and Jesus too). That declaration of epidermal elitism is both offensive and historically wrong. Nevertheless, Kelly doubled-down after receiving a barrage of criticism. And she was joined by her colleagues at Fox who agreed with her.

Fox News

Now Fox has published an editorial that that addresses the larger question of the long-running “War on Christmas” that is largely the product of their bigoted imaginations. The author is Kelly Shackelford, the president and CEO of the Liberty Institute, a Texas-based (where else?) conservative legal foundation that opposes the separation of church and state and defends the rights of Christians to force their beliefs on others on public property and with public funds.

Shackelford’s article is nothing more than an enumeration of some recent legal disputes wherein Christians were prohibited from exploiting public assets to impose their religious beliefs on others. Shackelford accused those who defend the separation of church and state of bullying and intimidating the poor oppressed Christian majority that gets all of its religious observances declared legal holidays and whose celebrations are shoved down the throats of all Americans with non-stop proselytizing, parades, and television programming that is steeped in Christian fervor for weeks on end.

The War on Christmas that is imagined by Shackelford and his ilk is really just an attempt by Americans to keep the government from establishing the sort of state religion that the Constitution explicitly forbids. But zealots like Shackelford are determined to force everyone to bow to their God. They could be satisfied with promoting their faith on the grounds of the tens of thousands of churches they have built and on other private property where they are free to express themselves. But their fanaticism is defined by an unceasing need to coerce others into accepting religion on their terms.

It is in this regard that Fox News has inadvertently stumbled onto the real War on Christmas. It is a war that soils what Christians claim to be the spirit of the season. While they speak of peace on Earth and goodwill toward men, they practice discrimination and foment hostility. They are fighting a war against their fellow citizens in an effort to punish them lest they conform to the spiritual will of the majority. And make, no mistake, their purpose is not to save souls, but to shape a political environment that adheres to their conservative principles.

This is the real War on Christmas. It is the exploitation of Christmas as a political cudgel, and it is nothing new. In 1959 the rabidly right-wing, anti-communists at the John Birch Society issued a pamphlet titled “There Goes Christmas?!” that warned:

“One of the techniques now being applied by the Reds to weaken the pillar of religion in our country is the drive to take Christ out of Christmas — to denude the event of its religious meaning.”

That’s right. Fifty years ago the War on Christmas was in full swing. Then, like now, it was attributed to leftists seeking to undermine society and weaken our moral foundation. This imaginary assault on values has been a staple argument for the right for decades. But it goes back even farther than that. In 1921 Henry Ford’s repulsively racist tract “The International Jew,” stated:

“The whole record of the Jewish opposition to Christmas, Easter and other Christian festivals, and their opposition to certain patriotic songs, shows the venom and directness of [their] attack…And it has become pretty general. Last Christmas most people had a hard time finding Christmas cards that indicated in any way that Christmas commemorated Someone’s Birth…Now, all this begins with the designers of the cards.”

There you have it. It is a cabal of Jewish greeting card designers that is behind the whole War on Christmas thing. And of course the blame had to eventually be shifted to Jews who the right believe are in control of the media, the law, and all the money.

The fact that this War on Christmas meme evolved from such repugnant historical beginnings says a great deal about the hate mongers who perpetuate it today. It is exactly the same sentiment that drives this message, even if the messengers like Shackelford, Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity, and Sarah Palin (whose new book is wholly consumed by this subject), refuse to admit it. The people promoting the so-called War on Christmas are themselves waging a war on Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, and even other Christians who respect religious and Constitutional freedom.

If these right-wing pseudo-Christians were really concerned with preserving the spirit of Christmas, they wouldn’t allow it to be exploited and trivialized by commercial enterprises and greedy corporations. They wouldn’t shove it down people’s throats. And they wouldn’t join the ranks of anti-Semites and bigots to perpetuate a campaign of hate.

War On Christmas: Sean Hannity And Glenn Beck Join The Other Side

With Thanksgiving safely out of the way, it is time for Fox News to buckle down and concentrate on the ongoing (and fake) War on Christmas. Bill O’Reilly is doing his part by declaring his intention to continue his watchful policing of the secular-progressive forces who are bent on the elimination of Santa Claus and Christianity.

However, there is an ominous development in Foxland. Sean Hannity welcomed Glenn Beck to his program on Monday to discuss the rift in the Republican Party between their insane, right-wing establishment faction, and their insane, right-wing Tea Party faction. But prior to the fascinating conversation between these two deep-thinkers. Hannity greeted Beck with a hearty “Happy Holidays.” Which Beck graciously returned.

If that isn’t a harbinger of Armageddon, what is? While the rest of the wingnut-osphere is railing against efforts to remove Christ from the pagan holiday that was falsely converted into the birthday of Jesus, Hannity and Beck are exchanging salutations that advance Satan’s mission of tolerance. Will O’Reilly condemn this atrocity? Stay tuned.

Season’s Bleatings: Republicans Suck The Spirit Out Of Christmas

For a political party that is so fixated on forcing everyone in America to observe the Christian celebration of Christmas, regardless of their beliefs, Republicans sure have a repulsive way of honoring the day their savior was allegedly born.

A visit to the website of the National Republican Congressional Committee reveals a t-shirt in their online store that expresses what they must regard as the joyful tidings of the season. The shirt (priced to gouge at $39.99) proudly proclaims that “All I want for Christmas is to be rid of ObamaCare.”

Republicans

What a blessed exhortation of the season’s festive mood. The GOP (Greedy One Percent) is obviously excited to begin the gaiety (perhaps not the best choice of words) by wishing that all the young people who have already benefited by being added to their parents insurance should now be cast off. And of course the same thing should happen to all the seniors who have already saved more than a billion dollars on prescription drugs; all the patients whose lives were saved by early diagnosis from preventative exams; all the folks with preexisting conditions who were unable to get insurance; all the women who received prenatal care, etc.

And Republicans are clearly looking forward to returning to the prohibitively expensive insurance policies that kept health care away from millions of low-income working people. And let’s not forget the rising costs of health care that were rampant prior to the Affordable Care Act. The GOP isn’t interested in the fact that costs have risen at their slowest pace in a decade since ObamaCare went into effect.

But most of all let’s rejoice in politicizing a holiday that Republicans pretend to hold sacred. After all, burdening the poor and enriching corporations is the real spirit of the season. That’s why Republicans revere Black Friday, a day when people literally assault one another in order to acquire new things, the day after they supposedly gave thanks for the things they have. And the days between now and Christmas day will be filled with consumption and anxiety and the creation of needless debt, while the WalMarts and the Macys grow evermore wealthy.

So Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good deal on a PlayStation 4 – but no Insulin or appendectomies, or alcohol rehab.

Here We Go Again: Fox News’ War On Christmas Lunacy Returns

It happens every year at this time. Chestnuts roast over open fires; Jack Frost nips at your nose; and Fox News declares that there is a “War on Christmas” that only they can see.

Fox News War on Christmas

Of all the phony stories that Fox News can invent, this is one of the silliest. This a nation in which a sizable majority is Christian. And many who are not also celebrate the Christmas holiday out of convenience. It is a national holiday for which most people, Christian or not, get the day off of work. Every store in America features Christmas sales with products designed for the holiday. Christmas decorations adorn homes, restaurants, offices, lampposts, and anything else that tinsel can be wrapped around. And amid this all-consuming, orgy of Candy Cane colors and Bing Crosby tunes, Fox News still thinks that Christmas is facing some sort of hostile threat.

Never mind that there is good reason for many Americans to feel slighted by the rampant yuletiding going on all around them. Jews don’t get a national holiday. There are no Muslim films scheduled to run non-stop for eight weeks on thirty different TV channels. Hindus and Buddhists and even Unitarians have to fend for themselves. And don’t even bring up atheists.

Nevertheless, the War on Christmas is something that seems to dominate the Fox News Channel every year despite having no evidence that any war is in progress, except against all of the non-Christians. And if it weren’t enough that Fox is once again ranting over a non-existent war, take alook at what else they are railing about as this holiday season commences:

Fox News Doomsday

Yep, that’s a real thing. “Countdown to Doomsday.” Fox News Reporting is covering this vital subject beginning this Wednesday. They are outraged over a made up war on Christmas, but they are producing specials about an expired Mayan calendar. They are committing their awesome journalistic assets to uncover the truth about an alleged Mayan prediction of the demise of planet Earth. Mark my words, brothers and sisters, Fox will get to the bottom of this and declare it to be an ancient hoax. They will firmly denounce any possibility that a civilization from the past can accurately prophesy the end of the world in an apocalyptic holocaust.

Oh wait a minute. I guess there is one ancient civilization’s prophesy of an apocalyptic holocaust with which Fox concurs. And that’s the one that is at war with … someone, maybe the Mayans.

Fox News Escalates The War On Christmas

For the past several years at this time, Fox News has made certain that Christmas was the time of year that all good Americans shun everyone who isn’t Christian. From Sarah Palin to Glenn Beck to Neil Cavuto, the call to reject such inclusive greetings as “Happy Holidays” is heard throughout the Fox News village. Bill O’Reilly, as usual, is at the forefront of the battle. And you know that he understands the meaning of Christmas because he articulates it so well:

“Every company in America should be on its knees thanking Jesus for being born. Without Christmas, most American businesses would be far less profitable.”

Heartwarming, isn’t it? O’Reilly’s gratitude for the birth of his savior isn’t due to the gift of eternal life. It’s for the prospect of higher profits. His Jesus would have invited the moneychangers into the temple.

I’m sure that O’Reilly’s wrath will be suitably deployed when he hears that Fox News has joined the Pagan hordes who insult Jesus by taking Christ out of Christmas. During today’s broadcast of Fox & Friends they brazenly wished their viewers a happy holiday.

It was just last week that Fox & Friends hostess Gretchen Carlson berated the city of Tulsa, Oklahoma for changing the name of their Christmas parade to the Holiday Parade of Lights. And Fox & Friends recently featured a story about Grinch Alert, a web site from the First Baptist Church of Dallas that tracks businesses who say “Holiday” instead of “Christmas.” You can go to the Grinch Alert site now and enter Fox News as “Naughty” for perpetuating the evil of a “holiday” celebration.

For the record, Fox doesn’t get credit for initiating the war on Christmas. In 1921 Henry Ford published a virulently anti-Semitic tract titled “The International Jew” in which he wrote…

“The whole record of the Jewish opposition to Christmas, Easter and other Christian festivals, and their opposition to certain patriotic songs, shows the venom and directness of [their] attack…And it has become pretty general. Last Christmas most people had a hard time finding Christmas cards that indicated in any way that Christmas commemorated Someone’s Birth.”

Sound familiar? And the right-wingers on Fox and elsewhere owe a debt to the John Birch Society for waging this seasonal war and injecting the scent of red-baiting into it for good measure. Their 1959 pamphlet titled “There Goes Christmas?!” warned that…

“One of the techniques now being applied by the Reds to weaken the pillar of religion in our country is the drive to take Christ out of Christmas – to denude the event of its religious meaning.”

And if that doesn’t bring the warmth of the season home, I don’t know what to say. Except Happy Holidays.

[Update:] Once again Rupert Murdoch sent a memo to all employees wishing them a happy “holiday.” Why does he hate Jesus?

Rupert Murdoch Sends Holiday Greeting, Doesn’t Mention Christmas

Last week a featured Fox Nation story was posted with the following image that made the point that the Obama’s failed to mention Christmas on their holiday cards (just as the Bush’s failed to do).

I wonder if the Fox Nationalists will now post a headline story about their boss, Rupert Murdoch. Here is how he addressed his “holiday” message that went out this morning:

Subject: A note to all staff: Mr. Murdoch’s Holiday Greetings 2009

The entirety of the message made no reference to Christmas whatsoever. Isn’t this an affront to God fearing Christian Americans who demand that all greetings of the season explicitly reference their savior with no other recognition of the pagan non-believers? Isn’t this more evidence of the suppression of the Christian values that our country was based on?

I can’t wait to see how Bill O’Reilly will cover this insult to “the folks.” And I’m certain that Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck will also speak up for the oppressed faithful. Right-wing blogs are sure to go wild over yet another example of political correctness from an elitist media baron. Ya think? How can Murdoch so cavalierly abandon the values of traditional Americans? While he may have chosen to excise Christmas from his message, he did say this:

“Together we informed and entertained, but more importantly, enriched the lives of hundreds of millions of people across the globe. We continued to pursue our goal of being the world’s best producer of media content, spreading the message of freedom we all believe in. Across all our businesses we advanced our digital initiatives, while holding true to our values and commitment to change for the better, including our support for clean energy and the environment.

Where does Murdoch get off talking about a message that “we all believe in,” or claiming to be “holding true to our values,” when he has blatantly betrayed those beliefs and values? And what is this business of support for the environment? Sure, there is a web page on the News Corp. site that professes to be concerned about the state of the environment, but virtually every one of his writers and television presenters relentlessly disparage efforts to protect the environment, even calling them hoaxes, harmful, and socialistic.

All of this makes Murdoch’s holiday greeting a farce that shows nothing but contempt for the Christian supremacy that Fox News and America stand for. And now is the time to let him know that his offense will not be tolerated. All good Christians are now called upon to boycott Murdoch’s media empire, starting with Fox News. Good luck brothers. We can stop this sacrilege and restore America to the theocratic utopia it was intended to be.

Greetings from The War On Christmas

Just when you thought hostilities were subsiding, Fox Nation is escalating the War on Christmas. Their new volley of seasonal aggression kicks off with insinuations questioning President Obama’s sincerity with regard to his faith:

Fox Nation Obama Christmas

So the Obama’s cards don’t mention Christmas. Well, that must mean they are secret Muslim after all. Except for…..Uh oh…..

These are the “Holiday” cards sent out by George and Laura Bush in 2006, 2007, and 2008. None of them mention Christmas either. I wonder what religion the Bush’s belonged to secretly. I’m going to guess it’s the Snake Handlers. That would explain how they could work so closely with people like Cheney and Rove.

US President Shames Nation By Bowing To Foreigners

It is about time that somebody takes on the embarrassing behavior of an American president supplicating himself to foreign leaders. The United States is a nation of superior values and goals. We must never show subservience to others, even as a measure of humility or respect. Leave it to the conservative media to put this critical issue front and center. We have already wasted too much time on trivialities like health care and war. It’s time to refocus on the issues that matter to America.

Thank you Fox Nation.

However, the Fox Nationalists seem to be having trouble keeping their War on Christmas alerts straight. Today they are featuring a story on this year’s War on Christmas: “Santa = Swastika? War On Christmas Begins In Massachusetts.” But on October 29, they posted this declaration: “War on Christmas Starts in KY.” I guess everyone wants credit for firing the first shot.

Update: The Fox Nationalists must not have thought their first slap at Obama for bowing (Again?) was hard enough. So the next day they took another swing (Our Most Embarrassing President?).

I assume they’ll just keep changing the headline until they find one that is sufficiently insulting. It would probably be a lot easier if they just went with “Obama Hates America” and used that for the headline of all of their biased, dishonest stories.
