Fox Nation vs. Reality: Westboro Baptist Hate Group A Left-Wing Cult?

In a feat of mental malfunction on an Olympian scale, the Fox Nationalists posted an item that placed the radical hate group, Westboro Baptist Church, on the political left. The item included a photo with the following caption:

“Bikers Turn Out to Protect Newtown Mourners from Left-Wing Westboro Cult.”

Fox Nation - Westboro Baptist Church

The only people deranged enough to believe that are the readers of Fox Nation. Everybody else knows that Westboro is as right-wing as you can get. They are most famous for crashing the funerals of fallen soldiers and brandishing signs that say “God Hates Fags.” No one could reasonably argue that Westboro’s homophobic intolerance, or their extremist Christianity, is consistent with liberal views. However, those are the basic tenets of conservatives and were written into the Republican Party platform.

Fox Nation sourced the item to an article on the Gateway Pundit blog by Jim Hoft. Hoft sourced his piece to the Cochrane Times of Alberta, Canada. The Cochrane Times wrote that…

“Bikers seem to have thwarted attempts by the Westboro Baptist Church to protest the funeral of Newtown, Conn., shooting victim Principal Dawn Hochsprung.

“The vocal right-wing Christian group, whose website is, produced a video called ‘God Sent the Shooter,’ and has blamed the massacre on gay marriage.”

Hoft took it upon himself to edit the original story by striking out the phrase “right-wing Christian,” and adding “left-Wing Westboro Cult” to his headline. Then the Fox Nationalists parroted the revised content for their own story.

Clearly there is nothing on Fox that can be taken seriously. This convoluted path to a blatantly false conclusion is typical of Fox Nation’s utter disrespect for journalistic ethics or the truth. And it is further evidence that Fox News does not deserve to be regarded as a legitimate news enterprise.

  1. I did read somewhere that phelps was/is registered as a Democrat, although i’m unaware of a Dem who phelps’ ideology would allign with.

  2. They are as right-wing as you could get…”

You are lying as usual. Fred Phelps and his gang of inbreds are just haters. Period. Their hatred knows no political boundaries.

“…’God hates fags’…basic tenets of conservatives and were written into the Republican party platform…”

And yet another lie from you. People who say that marriage is supposed to be between a man and a woman have no connection to the Phelps cult, and you know it.

This is further evidence that Newscorpse does not deserve to be regarded as a media watchdog site.

    • You do realize that Phelps and the GOP have exactly the same agenda with regard to marriage equality, don’t you? They are both just haters, period.

Also, like I said, as right-wing as you can get. And that’s the point of this article. Fox Nation calling Westboro a left-wing cult is outright insane.

      • “…have exactly the same agenda with regard to marriage equality…”

So does that mean a large portion of African Americans are haters? Last pack of polls I saw show that a majority of blacks don’t support gay marriage. That’s one reason why Prop 181 in California passed.

Using your “logic”, I could point to Hitler’s emphasis on physical fitness and thusly proclaim that all of us should just sit on our butts and refuse to exercise.

“The GOP are just haters, period.”

        Once again, you lie.

Fox Nation got it wrong. Westboro is not a left-wing or a right-wing cult. It’s just a cult.

        • Scott, Mark and every liberal type wants to convince you and anyone that will listen that right wing = hate, similar to what he is bitching about with Fox Nation calling this group “left wing”.

          • I would amend that a little bit, Steve. Right Wing = Mean. Or at least that’s how they repeatedly come off. Make welfare recipients take drug tests. Deny gay people equal rights. Smash. Bust. Squash. 47% are “takers.” Unworthy leaches. Everything about staunch conservatism comes across as meanness. And I don’t think it’s just image, I think a lot of it is real, entrenched meanness.

            • You are generalizing and are specifically assigning conservatism to the Republican party and by extension Fox News – which is nothing remotely conservative anymore, I’m not sure how to categorize the republican party anymore. The more appropriate statement would be Right wing = reality. Liberals live in a fantasy world where the feelings rule, logic does not exist. Conservatism is much more about equality for all and no special treatment for a “protected class”. I can’t speak for the religious types, which does believe some of that stuff, as I’m not in that camp. And the reality is that government can’t continue handing out money to the non-productive, it isn’t affordable no matter how much you tax the rich. that’s reality.

  3. I said in an earlier post unrelated to this religious hate group that religion poisons everything! I stand by that statement.

    • lol…msnbc worshipper always say that

  4. all you left wing ding bats need help…I’m neither right or left wing so my opinions is based on comments I read from blogs and headlines from msn, yahoo news and many other online news…I have one thing to say the left is by far the rudest group ever! I’m convinced they all suffer from Narcissistic personality disorder!!!
