McCarthy Won’t Deny that Republicans Were Communicating with Capitol Rioters

It’s been more than four months since Donald Trump’s Insurrectionist Brigades stormed Capitol Hill in an attempt to prevent members of Congress from completing their constitutionally mandated duty to certify of the 2020 presidential election. It was a deadly and profoundly anti-democratic assault on the rights of the American people.

Donald Trump, Kevin McCarthy

The StormTrumpers were incited by the ex-president, along with his accomplices from the ranks of the Republican congressional caucus and the right-wing media. And in the months that have transpired since the atrocities of January 6th, none of those conspirators have been held accountable.

A bipartisan, independent commission was proposed to study what happened and to develop practices to avoid any similar events in the future. However, Republican leaders in Congress have have come out against it. It is isn’t hard to imagine why they would want to avoid such a study. What is already known through public remarks and accounts by witnesses is highly incriminating to GOP members of Congress and Trump. And that explains the nervous reaction by House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy when questioned about the matter on Thursday:

Question: Do you think it’s a conflict of interest for members to be voting on a Commission that they might have to potentially be witnesses for and provide information on?
McCarthy: No, because who knows what they’re gonna do on the Commission. So no, I don’t think so.
Question: Can you be absolutely certain that none of your members were in any communication with any of the people who stormed Capitol Hill?
McCarthy: Thank you for the question. Everybody have a nice day.

First of all, McCarthy’s lack of concern about any conflicts of interest completely ignores the question. For one thing, he knows exactly what the Commission will do. It’s purpose has been clearly defined. And it’s impossible not to notice the glaring conflicts of interest by people like Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Sen. Josh Hawley who promoted the protests and cheered on the protesters. Not to mention Leader McCarthy himself who admitted that he spoke to Trump while the riots were in progress. His testimony would be mandatory for the Commission to complete its mission.

Thus, it isn’t surprising that when McCarthy was asked whether he could “be absolutely certain that none of your members were in any communication with any of the people who stormed Capitol Hill,” he chose to terminate the press conference and slink away. Had he answered he would have had to include himself, his fellow Republicans, and Trump, all of whom had such communications.

Consequently, the bill that passed in the House to create the Commission is almost certain to fail in the Senate. Trump has dictated that he is opposed to it, and his minions – McCarthy and Sen. GOP leader, Mitch McConnell) are nothing if not obedient.

However, there may be a silver lining to the failure of the bill. Afterward, the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, would be free to create a Select Committee to do what the Commission would have done. And she wouldn’t have to compromise with Republicans on the ground rules. She could have a majority of Democrats on the Committee, and control the procedures such as the issuing subpoenas.

So in the end, the Republican intransigence at the behest of Trump will only come back to bite him in the behind. But not to worry, he has plenty of GOP flunkies who will kiss it and make it better.

Trump Unleashes More ‘Witch Hunt’ Victim-Whining Over Criminal Probe in New York

Throughout the one-term presidency of Donald Trump, he has been implicated in numerous criminal activities. They include making hush money payments to porn porn stars, collusion with Russians seeking to interfere with an election, obstruction of justice, financial and tax fraud connected to his real estate business, swindling his charitable foundation, and more election misconduct in Georgia.

Donald Trump, Witch Hunt

Now out of office, the legal perils of the twice-impeached, former reality TV game show host continue to unfold. The New York Attorney General’s office has announced that that office’s civil investigations of Trump have been escalated to include criminal offenses. This significantly increases the severity of the charges against Trump and the potential sentences. Consequently, Trump is responding in a measured, rational, and intelligent manner to this difficult situation.

Just kidding! Naturally, Trump is flying off the handle with unhinged outbursts and preposterous countercharges. He posted his vexatious Temper TanTrump™ on the lame and poorly visited blog that he launched after being booted from Twitter and Facebook for lying. His rant began…

“I have just learned, through leaks in the mainstream media, that after being under investigation from the time I came down the escalator 5 ½ years ago, including the fake Russia Russia Russia Hoax, the 2 year, $48M, No Collusion Mueller Witch Hunt, Impeachment Hoax #1, Impeachment Hoax #2, and others, that the Democrat New York Attorney General has ‘informed’ my organization that their ‘investigation’ is no longer just a civil matter but also potentially a ‘criminal’ investigation working with the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.”

First of all, the news of the criminal probe wasn’t “leaked.” It was released to the press publicly by the New York Attorney General’s office. However, it was nice of Trump to remind everyone of some of his flagrant misdeeds. It was also a nostalgic trip to the not-so-distant past to hear Trump yammering about the “Witch Hunt” again. Trump’s tediously long post also complained that…

“…the District Attorney and Attorney General are possessed, at an unprecedented level, with destroying the political fortunes of President Donald J. Trump and the almost 75 million people who voted for him.”

The evidence that somebody else wrote this for Trump is clear in the use of the third person to refer to Trump. This screed is also attempting to divert attention away from an investigation focused of his own perfidious behavior, to some kind of attack on those who voted for him. That’s pretty delusional, but not quite as delusional as his closing:

“Working in conjunction with Washington, these Democrats want to silence and cancel millions of voters because they don’t want ‘Trump’ to run again. […] No President has been treated the way I have.”

If Trump and/or his voters were “canceled” (a vapid and overused buzzword that has lost all meaning), it isn’t by this investigation. It was by the 81 million people who voted for President Biden. Trump still can’t accept that reality. So he continues to propagate the “Big Lie” that the election was stolen from him. That inflammatory rhetoric – which incited a deadly insurrection in Washington, D.C., – is all over his blog, even as his Republican sycophants in Congress obediently regurgitate it.

At least Trump is consistent in his ambition to be the most whiny and cowardly president in the history of the United States. He never stops playing the victim despite having been a privileged, trust fund crybaby who never worked a day in his life. How anyone can regard this relentless bellyacher as a leader with strength is confounding.

Fox News Ignores Biden’s Infrastructure Plans to Obsess Over His Wearing a Face Mask

President Biden has really been causing trouble for Fox News. For the past four months he has demonstrated a high level of competency and compassion as a leader. That is driving the folks at Fox nuts. And Biden, the swine, is probably doing it on purpose. Likewise he is striving to be “boring” as another means of tormenting the Foxies. Worst of all, Biden is achieving verifiable progress on the nation’s most critical issues such as the economy and the COVID pandemic. His success is evident in his high approval polling and the popularity of the Democratic agenda.

Joe Biden, Donald Trump Baby, Fake News

Consequently, fox News has had to struggle to come up with derogatory story lines on the President. You might think that they would be pretty good at this considering how much “news” they make up themselves. But their record is pretty sad. It consists mainly of trivialities like blaming Biden for sauce shortages at Chick-fil-A, and his fiendish plot to “take down America.” That’s when they aren’t dispensing flagrant racism or hyping abstract and artificial notions like “cancel culture” and “wokeness” that nobody really understands.

On Tuesday morning Fox News assigned their intrepid White House correspondent, Peter Doocy, to tag along with the President to a Ford plant in Dearborn, Michigan. While there, Fox News chose not to broadcast any of Biden’s speech (full video below) that covered salient portions of his infrastructure agenda, as well as plans to address the climate crisis and job creation. Instead, Doocy delivered this breaking news exclusive report:

“The President is saying a lot by showing us what he’s wearing. We have some new video. You can see at an electric vehicle plant in Dearborn, Michigan, he has got a face mask covering his mouth and nose. Which conflicts with the CDC guidance that you don’t have to do that, or socially distance indoors or outdoors as long as you are vaccinated. Which the President has been since before taking the oath of office.”

Doocy is also “saying a lot by showing us” what he regards as newsworthy reporting. Never mind that Doocy didn’t bother to ascertain whether or not there was a company policy at the plant that required masks. That appears likely since everyone else in the video was wearing them. Doocy also didn’t address whether the other people in the video had been vaccinated. And Doocy misrepresented the CDC guidance which actually says that masks should be worn indoors with people who aren’t vaccinated.

This is what happens when a propaganda network is incapable of concocting “scandals” to denigrate their ideological foes. It’s a pathetic spectacle of futility that will fall flat for everyone except for their loyal and gullible regular viewers. But to what end? Fox already has them convinced that Biden is a radical socialist dictator. Does is it really make any difference if they also think he’s one of them mask wearing libruls?

GOP Sen. Tom Cotton Baselessly Accuses the Associated Press of Colluding with Hamas

There has been a measure of devolution observable in the United States Congress. Some of its newer members on the Republican side are adherents to preposterous conspiracy theories and have a disturbing aversion to facts and/or truth-telling. Names that rise to the top of that list include Lauren Boebert (who recently blamed President Biden for a shortage of Chick-fil-A dipping sauce), and Marjorie Taylor Greene (who is a committed devotee of QAnon).

Tom Cotton

Another Republican conspiracy crackpot is Sen. Tom Cotton. On Monday Cotton took the Senate floor to do his best Tucker Carlson impersonation. That’s a talent that consists mainly of asking a bunch of stupid questions without providing any answers, but making sure that whatever is being insinuated will stick in the gullible minds of his target audience.

Cotton’s topic was the Israeli bombing of a building in Gaza that housed offices of the Associated Press, and also, allegedly, a Hamas military facility. The bombing was highly controversial and was covered by the media in detail. However, the press missed some of the questions that Cotton raised, mainly because they were really stupid questions:

“Whys is the Associated Press sharing a building with Hamas? Surely these intrepid reporters knew who their neighbors were. Did they knowingly allow themselves to be used as human shields by U.S. designated terrorist organization? Did the AP pull punches and decline to report for years on Hamas’ misdeeds? I submit that the AP has some uncomfortable questions to answer.”

Let’s take this from the top. Whether the AP was sharing a building with Hamas is not an established fact. Cotton has no evidence of it, nor does U.S. intelligence (at least as far as they’re admitting). Israel says they have evidence but have delayed releasing it while they are preoccupied with the ongoing conflict. So Cotton’s first question is based on an assumption for which he has no facts.

Cotton goes on to make a back-handed compliment suggesting that the “intrepid reporters” at AP would know all of their neighbors. Again, there is nothing to support that assertion. And there is no reason to assume that the AP had investigated every other tenant in the building. What’s more, if Hamas occupied an office there, they would likely have kept it secret and wouldn’t have been running around with Hamas armbands or other identifying insignia.

From there Cotton makes a repulsive charge that the AP might have been allowing themselves to be used as human shields. WTHF? It is profoundly irresponsible and reckless to make such a charge without irrefutable proof. He is, in effect, accusing journalists of engaging in terrorism.

Finally, Cotton implies that because of the alleged proximity of a Hamas office, the AP would deliberately distort their reporting to benefit Hamas. Again, Cotton is making a horrific accusation without a shred of evidence. He doesn’t even supply any AP stories that he thinks might have soft-peddled Hamas. He’s just taking wild swings in the dark.

This is the sort of thing you would expect from a disreputable cretin like Tucker Carlson. But for a U.S. senator to be flinging unsupported allegations as serious as these from the Senate floor is a grotesque abuse of his position.

Unfortunately, that is what we have come to expect from a Republican Party that still believes that Donald Trump won the 2020 election and that his victory was stolen from him by a massive cabal of Democrats, Republicans, journalists, election officials, voting machine manufacturers, Venezuelans, Germans, and Ukrainians. So if anyone should have to answer some uncomfortable question it’s Cotton and his GOP confederates who actually did support the domestic terrorists who invaded Congress on January sixth.

UH-OH: Former Trump Communications Director Blasts GOP as ‘Morally Reprehensible’

Among the many failures that Donald Trump presided over was the ethical wasteland that characterized so much of his administration. Trump has amassed a record for lying that will never be approached by future presidents. And in four years he has had an unprecedented number associates indicted, convicted, or otherwise fall under legal scrutiny. Most recently it’s his personal attorney Rudy Giuliani.

Donald Trump Circling the Drain

With his humiliating loss for reelection to President Joe Biden, Trump sought to pad his own disgraceful resume with a frenzy of delusional allegations about the election being “stolen” from him. Those wholly unsupported assertions led to riots in Washington, D.C. by his insurrectionist cult followers. And to its everlasting shame, the pitifully compliant Republican Party fell in line, for the most part, backing up Trump’s reckless alternative reality.

There are, however, some rare exceptions. Representatives Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger have courageously called out Trump’s dishonest defamation of democracy. And now another truth-teller has come forward. Alyssa Farah was Trump’s White House Communications Director. She resigned shortly after the January 6th insurrection. And on Monday morning she was interviewed by Mehdi Hasan on the NBC streaming network, Peacock (video below):

Hasan: What has happened to your party. Your party has gotten more extreme, not less.
Farah: The GOP is careening down what I would say is both a strategically unwise path, but also a morally reprehensible one. Just to be completely candid with you.

Liz Chaney did the right thing. We shouldn’t be commending people for simply telling the facts. Facts matter. We need to tell the truth. She did the right thing. But that shouldn’t be brave or heroic. That should just be what our leaders do.

But unfortunately, here’s the problem the GOP is facing: This isn’t going away. Voters have not forgotten about January 6th. The Republican Party has a number of problems. We need addition, not subtraction, to be able to win back the principles that we actually care about. But right now there’s this decision that we care more about loyalty to the former president. Care more about trying to gloss over what happened with the election and then January 6th.

And my unsolicited advice to my fellow Republicans would be: the truth tends to come to the top. It’s better to address it now, to come to grips with what went wrong and accept it. Because we’re gonna be dealing with this going into the midterms. We’re gonna be dealing with it going into 2024.

Farah hit the nail on it’s head with phrase “morally reprehensible.” That could apply to almost everything Trump did in office. Recall his caging of children and separating them from their parents. And his overt racism and acceptance of support from racist hate groups. And his infantile insults directed at critics in politics and the press. And especially his negligent mishandling of the COVID pandemic. As for Farah’s remarks about Trump’s demands for loyalty, that could be observed in Lindsey Graham’s reverential devotion to Trump, despite the abuse he’s taken.

Farah does not fit the profile of a typical never-Trumper. She is the daughter of Joseph Farah, the founder and publisher of the rabidly right-wing conspiracy rag, World Net Daily. She wrote for WND for a couple of years, then went on to work for Laura Ingraham’s radio show and congressional Republicans Mark Meadows and Jim Jordan. She also served as press secretary to Vice-President Mike Pence before being promoted to the White House press office.

It is difficult to reconcile the penitence of people like Farah who were perfectly happy to tolerate the atrocities of the Trump presidency. But if progressives are going to make the argument that Republicans and Trumpists were wrong, then we have to be able to accept it when our arguments succeed. And just because we can appreciate when a hardcore right-winger sees the light, it doesn’t mean they are forgiven for all past sins. It just means that their contribution to bringing out the truth is welcome.

When a committed conservative Republicans like Farah and Cheney are willing to talk openly about Trump’s despicable personality flaws, it might be fair to assume that a corner has been turned. Perhaps the field is safe for other Republicans to speak honestly about Trump. Of course, that will only make Trump even more enraged and unhinged. But the more of that that the American people see, the better our chances of getting past this aberration in our political lives. Time will tell if Farah is just a harmless leak, or the harbinger of the dam being about to burst.

Tomi Lahren of Fox News Tingles with Orgasmic Delight at Trump’s Stench of Fear

Donald Trump spent four years embarrassing America and degrading democracy. And he has nothing to show for it but two impeachments, the lowest approval ratings of all time, and a pile of pending indictments, both civil and criminal. But you know you’ve arrived at rock bottom when your most zealous defenders can only cite your worst personal traits as evidence of your success.

Tomi Lahren, Trump Baby

On “Judge” Jeanine Pirro’s Fox News Holler-rama Saturday night, she hosted a couple of shameless Trump-fluffers for an extended veneration of Dear Leader. The theme of the night was, according to a ranting Leo Terrell, that “Democrats and the media are afraid of Donald Trump.” When called upon for her testimony, Tomi Lahren (aka Nazi Barbie) unleashed a bizarre variant of praise for The Donald. Lahren gushed that…

“If I were Donald Trump and I was listening to the mainstream media, I would take that as a clear signal and cue. They are terrified of you Mr. Trump. It’s time for you to run again in 2024 because you’ve got the media on their heels. And there is no better way to know that, and to know that clearly than to know how terrified they are of you. They wanted Liz Cheney. They wanted Mitt Romney. Because they are terrified of “America First,” because that’s a winning message and a winning man.”

(Longer clip here)

Since when is the ability to incite fear a positive trait for a leader in a democracy? Lahren is actually excited by how scary Trump supposedly is to the majority of the American people who voted against him twice. She must really have gotten off when Trump’s insurrectionist brigades stormed the Capitol and threatened to hang Mike Pence and murder members of Congress.

Fear is the drug that stimulates the right-wing Id. And Trump is the perfect trigger for a flock of frightened followers who can’t distinguish fact from fiction. His every public utterance is filled with hostility. He’s either insulting his innumerable enemies, lying about his imagined achievements, or whining about his perceived victimhood. And it’s all aimed at stirring the innate fears of people who can’t accept responsibility for their own failings, so they need to project them onto others who look different.

However, the assertion that Democrats and the media are afraid of Trump is a feeble fabrication cooked up by desperate losers to make themselves feel as if they have some hidden superpower. No one is afraid of Trump, the person. He was confronted and defeated by the voters last November. And the media has been making progress calling Trump’s lies out for what they are. It is not an expression of fear for the press to report honestly on Trump’s obsessive aversion to the truth. To the contrary, speaking truth to power requires strength. It’s Trump’s embrace of flagrant falsehoods that speaks to his weakness.

There is, however, a justifiable fear of the consequences of reckless, demagogic rhetoric, lapped up by glassy-eyed cultists. That’s what led to the January 6th insurrection. Aberrations like Charles Manson and Jim Jones were not themselves frightening. But their gullible and pliant disciples were capable of horrific acts in the service of their master. And that’s always been the threat that Trump posed. He was never particularly frightening, but his followers are scary as hell. And some of them are regularly on Fox News.

Crime of the Century? Rage-a-Holic Trump Lashes Out at GOP, Fox News, and Newsmax

It’s been six months since the 2020 presidential election was won decisively by Joe Biden. It’s been four months since Biden was inaugurated. And yet, the “Big Lie” that the election was “stolen” and/or “rigged” by a cabal of thousands of conspirators continues to eat away at Donald Trump. It is, according to Trump “The Crime of the Century!”

Donald Trump Angry

Never mind that this cabal would have to include participants from both the Democratic and Republican parties, both of whom control the fifty states that have certified the voting results. And multiple nations would also have to be among the anti-Trump colluders, including Venezuela, Ukraine, and Germany. Sixty judges, many of whom were appointed by Trump, and the Supreme Court as well, are, in Trump’s diseased mind, all out to deny him a second term as president.

And on it goes. On Saturday morning Trump posted a series of comments on his laughably lame new blog (which was down for most of the morning). These bug-eyed outbursts speak for themselves as to the mental deterioration of the Former Guy. It went something like this…

“As our Country is being destroyed, both inside and out, the Presidential Election of 2020 will go down as THE CRIME OF THE CENTURY!”

This is a “crime” that has no evidence whatsoever to prove that it was committed. Dozens of courts dismissed it as unsupported, frivolous, and totally lacking legal foundation.

“The 2020 Presidential Election was, by far, the greatest Election Fraud in the history of our Country. The good news is, the American people get it and the truth is rapidly coming out! Had Mike Pence had the courage to send the Electoral College vote back to states for recertification, and had Mitch McConnell fought for us instead of being the weak and pathetic leader he is, we would right now have a Republican President who would be VETOING the horrific Socialistic Bills that are rapidly going through Congress.”

Trump is actually correct that “the American people get it.” By significant majorities (62%), voters believe that the election was free and fair. Although gullible Republicans continue to buy the Big Lie myth. Despite that, Trump is still mad at Mike Pence and Mitch McConnell for not finding a way to violate the law and declare Trump president-for-life.

“Fox News is afraid to cover it—there is rarely a mention. Likewise, Newsmax has been virtually silent on this subject because they are intimidated by threats of lawsuits. One America News (OAN), one of the fastest growing networks on television, and the “hottest”, is doing a magnificent job of exposing the massive fraud that took place. The story is only getting bigger and at some point it will be impossible for the weak and/or corrupt media not to cover. Thank you to OAN and other brave American Patriots. It is all happening quickly!”

In addition to the weaklings that Trump has branded as traitors, he is also perturbed at his Ministry of Propaganda (aka Fox News) and the even more sycophantic Newsmax. But there is good reason to be concerned about lawsuits considering that Dominion Voting Systems and Smartmatic have both filed defamation suits against Fox News and Newsmax. However, OAN is hardly a fast growing network. It has so few viewers that it isn’t even tracked in the Nielsen ratings.

Trump’s persistence in continuing his futile war on democracy is only making him and the GOP look ever more delusional. Which wasn’t that difficult to begin with. The House Republican minority leader, Kevin McCarthy, told Sean Hannity this week that “I don’t think anybody is questioning the legitimacy of the presidential election.” Someone should introduce McCarthy to Trump. Their shared inability to comprehend reality might make them perfect match.

SRSLY? House GOP Leader Heaps Praise on Trump for Sleeping Less than Biden

The political debate in America has significantly devolved since Donald Trump rose to (and fell from) power. Trump’s idea of a substantive argument is to either fling infantile insults at his opponents, or to exalt himself for things he’s never done. And Fox News hasn’t helped with their manic promotion of trivial issues like the “cancelling” of Mr. Potato Head, or President Biden being responsible for a sauce shortage at Chick-fil-A.

Trump in Bed, Eating, Sad

On Friday evening’s episode of Sean Hannity’s Fox News program, the House Republican minority leader, Kevin McCarthy, was interviewed along with the GOP Whip, Steve Scalise, and the newly installed GOP conference chair, Elise Stefanik. That trio at the top of the Republican food chain have the distinction of all having voted to overturn the election on behalf of their messiah Trump.

During the interview, Hannity sought to elicit some commentary from his guests that would cast Biden as unfit to serve. That led to this exchange with McCarthy:

Hannity: What observations did you see as it relates to the President? Did he seem engaged? Did he have a high level of energy? You’ve been around Donald Trump, you’ve been around Joe Biden. What’s the difference between the two men?
McCarthy: This is the first time I saw Joe Biden as President since he’d been – I saw him at inaugural and State of the Union night. He was with it, and he was engaging, and he was giving me numbers, and he was talking. But at no time, having known Joe Biden for quite some time, does he have the energy of Donald Trump. We both know it. Donald Trump didn’t need to sleep five hours a night.

Hannity must have been bitterly disappointed that McCarthy acknowledged Biden’s engagement and grasp of detail. Hannity has been trying in vain to portray Biden as weak, frail, and struggling cognitively.” But McCarthy’s response failed on multiple levels.

First of all, the assertion that Trump was bursting with energy is contradicted by four years of unprecedented presidential sloth. Trump didn’t begin his work day until 11:00am. He refused to sit through daily briefings. He insisted on what his staff called “executive time,” that consisted primarily of tweeting and watching Fox News. And he has spent a record amount of time on the golf course (usually at his own properties) that accounts for upwards of 20% of his time in office. And who can count the wasted hours Trump spent performing his psycho-comedy routine for the cultish followers at his campaign rallies?

What’s more, McCarthy’s admiration of Trump’s “wokeness” is a peculiar argument. Lack of sleep is not an indicator of strength. It’s an illness with severe consequences. Sleep deprivation diminishes mental acuity, produces hallucinations, and causes anxiety and psychoses. There’s a reason that it’s often used as a form of torture. So no one should be impressed that Trump doesn’t get sufficient sleep. And if Trump is suffering from insomnia, it would be interesting to know what’s causing it. Some common causes are anxiety, stress, depression, and medications such as Adderall.

America can rest comfortably knowing the President is getting sufficient sleep to competently do his job. But we still have to worry about the fact that the hopelessly lost Republican Party is controlled by “Sleepy Don” and the “Big Lie” spreaders at the top of the GOP pile. Then again, that may be the best thing that can happen for Democrats.

Fox News (And Trump) Whines that Trump Didn’t Get Credit for Vaccine They Say Kills People

Historical revisionism is one of the primary functions of Fox News. They are working hard to misinform their gullible viewers on a wide range of subjects. They have already succeeded in convincing them that Donald Trump was the real winner of the 2020 presidential election. Now they are trying to peddle the blatant lie that the January 6th insurrection at the Capitol was just a day at the park.

Donald Trump, Coronavirus

In addition to those fallacies, Fox News is collaborating with Trump to make sure that Trump gets the credit he imagines that he deserves for personally creating the COVID vaccines and saving the world. On Friday morning Fox News interviewed Republican Senator Shelley Moore Capito. Host Bill Hemmer managed to contort a question with a preface suggesting that President Biden had cheated Trump out of the glory that he believes is rightfully his. Hemmer asked…

“Were you struck by the fact that the President did not make a single mention of Operation Warp Speed?”

Not surprisingly, Capito replied that credit should be given where it’s due, and that means to Trump. Never mind that Operation Warp Speed played no role in the development of the first vaccine that became available in the U.S. (Pfizer). Hemmer’s loaded question not only falsely implied that Trump was entitled to recognition for the vaccines, but that Biden was rude not to have mentioned it.

The only thing Trump deserves credit for is his negligence, incompetence, and deliberate malfeasance, that resulted in the deaths of more than half a million Americans, and the illness of hundreds of thousands more. Trump downplayed the severity of the pandemic from the start. He promised that it would disappear by magic when only a few hundred people had died. He proposed treating it with bleach and ultraviolet light. And he failed to put in place a plan to distribute and administer the vaccine.

Other than that, Trump was a perfectly nauseating attention hog who had endless praise for himself. And he continues to play that demented character for his cult followers. Less than an hour after the segment on Fox News, Trump posted a comment on the hysterically lame blog that he set up because he was booted off of Twitter. He wrote that all he wanted was “Just a mention please!,” and then asked…

“Isn’t it incredible that because of the vaccines, which I and my Administration came up with years ahead of schedule (despite the fact that everybody, including Fauci, said would never happen), that we no longer need masks, and yet our names are not even mentioned in what everybody is calling the modern day miracle of the vaccines? […] The Biden Administration had zero to do with it. All they did was continue our plan of distribution, which was working well right from the beginning!”

So Trump and his administration came up with the vaccines? It wasn’t the scientists and doctors who were working on them long before Trump’s “Warped” speed sham? And notice that Trump isn’t expressing any gratitude for the lives saved by Biden’s successful inoculation project. The only thing Trump demonstrates any interest in with this comment is satisfying his own voracious ego and maligning his foes.

It’s rather odd that Trump and Fox News are now so insistent that Trump be celebrated for “his” vaccine. This is the vaccine that Trump received himself in secret. For months Fox News and the rest of Rupert Murdoch’s media empire have been scare mongering about the vaccine. Tucker Carlson is convinced that it doesn’t work, but that government overlords will force it on you. The New York Post has been publishing stories about how it is supposedly killing people.

All of that notwithstanding, Trump is now whining that he isn’t getting credit for the vaccine. He can’t understand why he isn’t being celebrated for his selfless devotion to the cure. But that’s a typical reaction for a malignant narcissist. And for Trump it’s just another day of exalting himself and disparaging others. To Trump, nothing else matters.

BUSTED: Sean Hannity of Fox News Attacks Biden With Maliciously Edited Video

Following his inauguration, Fox News wasted no time viciously denigrating President Joe Biden. Before the first day was over Fox had already done a story about Biden’s Disastrous First Week.” Four months later Fox is still pounding out the same dishonest message. This week they did another story about what they falsely characterized as “Battered Biden under siege as crises confound the White House.”

Fox News, Sean Hannity, Joe Biden

In the real world, Biden is enjoying one of the most productive and popular presidencies in modern times (which is driving Fox News crazy). He ushered through a two trillion dollar pandemic relief and stimulus plan. He rejoined the Paris Climate Accords. He signed numerous executive orders reversing much of the damage done by Trump. He is advancing historic infrastructure legislation. He’s moving forward expeditiously on reforms for race/police, immigration, gun safety, taxes, and voting rights. And he effectively managed COVID vaccine programs that have already resulted in nearly 50% the country being at least partially vaccinated. That’s a sharp contrast to Donald Trump who has become America’s Biggest Loser.

Among the most prolific purveyors of falsehoods in Fox’s “Bullshit Factory” is Sean Hannity. He has spent most of his time for the past year maligning Biden as “frail, weak, cognitively struggling Joe.” It’s become an endless loop that Hannity repeats ad nauseum in the hopes that his shtick will stick. But Biden refuses to cooperate, and instead speaks with sincerity and intelligence.

Since Hannity can’t make a coherent argument to support the insults he aims at Biden, he has now resorted to producing deliberately deceptive videos that were edited to make Biden look bad. On Wednesday night Hannity played one such video. Hannity introduces the clip in a manner that he thinks is disparaging to Biden, but which actually makes Hannity sound like a cranky seven year old. (video below)

The subject was the recent cyber-attack on Colonial Pipeline that temporarily disrupted gasoline distribution (and that GOP wackos blame on Biden. Hannity called it “Joe Biden’s ongoing gas crisis” and complained that…

“Joe Biden didn’t want to talk about it. He was too worried and concerned he’d get in trouble if he answered too many questions. And his staff threatened, I guess, not to give him his hot cocoa before his afternoon nappy. […] When Joey addressed the crisis his remarks were pretty bizarre.”

Hannity’s assertion that “Biden didn’t want to talk about it” because he was “concerned he’d get in trouble,” was triggered by an obvious joke on Biden’s part. But the humor-challenged Hannity was too dense and consumed by hostility to get it. Then his inner toddler took over to whine about cocoa and naps.

However, the video posted below shows both Hannity’s edited segment as well as the uncut exchange between Biden and the reporter who made the inquiry. The uncut clip shows that Biden answered the question clearly and substantively. But Hannity’s version removed all of that and resumed the video later at a point where Biden’s remarks appear to be unrelated because they are out of context.

This is as dishonest as it gets. And it is sad that it was presented on a cable network that has the word “news” in its name. But it affirms just how unethical Hannity is, and Fox News as well for employing him.
