Trump Whines That He Has ‘Accomplished So Much’ That ‘We Shouldn’t Even Have An Election’

The American experiment in democracy is facing some its most dire challenges during the second occupation of the White House by Donald Trump. He has never been an advocate of government “of, by, and for the people,” and he isn’t about to embrace those principles now.

King Donald Trump in the Oval Office.

Abraham Lincoln’s hopes expressed in the Gettysburg Address couldn’t be more urgently needed today as the nation is engaged in a virtual Civil War between Trump and, well, pretty much everybody else who isn’t an indoctrinated Trump cultist. And if he has his way, the freedom and liberty that have been cherished goals for patriotic Americans for 250 years will sadly “perish from the Earth.” The madness of Der Trump is literally threatening to rip apart the American Dream.

In an interview with Reuters on Wednesday, Trump articulated some of his most bizarre and frightening aspirations for the future of this country. In particular, he was asked about the dismal prospects for his MAGA Republican Party in the upcoming midterm elections later this year. As reported by Reuters

“The president expressed frustration that his Republican Party could lose control of the U.S. House of Representatives or the Senate in this year’s midterm elections…He boasted that he had accomplished so much that ‘when you think of it, we shouldn’t even have an election.'”

Trump is justified in being frustrated by the electoral outlook for the GOP. Most polls show that Democrats are strong favorites to return to the majority in the House, and are well positioned to retake the Senate as well. Trump knows that if that happens, he will be subject to more accountability for his criminal misconduct than he has been with his MAGA flunkies running Congress. Including being impeached for the third time.

So it isn’t especially surprising that an anti-democracy, wannabe dictator like Trump told Reuters that, in his opinion, “we shouldn’t even have an election.” Trump has been angling for an excuse to either cancel elections, or so badly suppress voting, that the elections hardly matter. Most recently Trump floated the idea of invoking the Insurrection Act, which could be used to prevent or delay the election. Exploiting the chaos he’s been deliberately causing in Minneapolis, Trump posted a lie-filled comment on his dedicated propaganda platform, Truth Social, saying that…

“If the corrupt politicians of Minnesota don’t obey the law and stop the professional agitators and insurrectionists from attacking the Patriots of I.C.E., who are only trying to do their job, I will institute the INSURRECTION ACT.”

Of course the politicians in Minnesota are not corrupt, they do obey the law, there are no professional agitators, and insurrectionists are not attacking ICE, who are provoking violence and assaulting innocent citizens.

Nevertheless, Trump’s Propaganda Secretary, Karoline Leavitt, sought to sane-wash Trump’s threat to cancel elections at her press briefing. She was asked about why Trump keeps talking about canceling the election. She replied that “The president was simply joking.” Because the thought of ending democracy in America is just so damn funny.

Q: Why does Trump keep talking about canceling the election?LEAVITT: He's speaking facetiously

In the same interview with Reuters Trump…

  • Said “I don’t care,” when asked about Senate Republicans expressing disapproval of his investigation into Federal Reserve chair, Jerome Powell.
  • Also said “I don’t care,” when told about “concerns that White House interference in the Fed could harm the economy.”
  • Whined that “Americans’ worries about high prices” were only due to his not doing a good job of “promoting his achievements.”
  • Lied that “Putin is ready to strike a deal” for peace with Ukraine, but that “the hold-up” was Ukrainian President Zelenskyy,
  • And falsely claimed that “his efforts [in Minnesota] had taken ‘thousands of murderers out of our country.”

Presumably, those are some of the examples of Trump’s “achievements” that would justify his canceling the election. Add to them his bombing of boats in the Caribbean; his razing part of the White House to build an elite ballroom; his persecution of political foes by his weaponized “Justice” Department; his sabotaging the Affordable Care Act, causing premiums to skyrocket; his dismantling government agencies that benefit millions of middle and low income citizens; his reversing gains made in mitigating the harm of climate change; and too many other atrocities to list.

So, yeah… Trump definitely wants to cancel the election. Because he knows that he and the GOP will be massacred. And he aint joking.
