OMFG! A Trump Supporter and a Reporter Put Their Hysterical Stupidity on Full Display

There is often a fine line between between comedy and tragedy. It’s a line that the record of Donald Trump’s public life frequently crosses. For instance, while there is certainly nothing funny about Trump’s negligent and incompetent mismanagement of the COVID pandemic that has resulted in nearly 800,000 American deaths, you can’t help but laugh at his preposterous proposals to treat the virus with bleach injections.

Donald Trump Crazy

Trump’s Olympic-grade idiocy has, unfortunately, become a daily affair, even after his eviction from the White House. And it is buttressed by the cult disciples who cling to him like a maniacal messiah. An example of this humiliating behavior that Trump inspires from his flock was delivered Monday morning in a Twitter post by Newsmax White House correspondent, Emerald Robinson. Her tweet asked…

“Does Mitch McConnell still think Trump is ‘morally responsible’ for the Jan. 6th fake-insurrection created by the FBI?”

Obviously Robinson hasn’t been paying attention to how obediently McConnell has been upholding Trump’s “Big Lie.” He was opposed to the congressional investigation into the January 6th insurrection. He urged voting against the release of any documents related to Trump’s criminal conspiracies. He is also against compelling testimony from Trump’s accomplices like Steve Bannon and Mark Meadows. So whether or not he “still thinks Trump is ‘morally responsible'” – which he said on the Senate floor shortly after the Capitol riots – that isn’t really relevant. McConnell clearly thinks Trump should be granted a “Get of Jail Free” card. Although his motivation is more focused on the GOP retaining power then on Trump’s interests.

However, that wasn’t the only ridiculousness in Robinson’s tweet. It is also notable for calling the insurrection, that everyone watched live on TV, “fake” and baselessly accusing it of having been “created by the FBI.” That’s a conspiracy theory she probably borrowed from Tucker Carlson, the Senior Conspiracy Crackpot of Fox News.

In addition to that laughably moronic outburst, a supporter of Trump at a recent cult rally was interviewed by TheGoodLiars about getting vaccinated for the coronavirus. It didn’t take long to devolve into pure farce:

Trump Supporter: Everyone who has taken the vaccine will be dead within 5 to 15 years. Guaranteed!
TheGoodLiars: So why did Donald Trump authorize Operation Warp Speed and create the vaccine?
Trump Supporter: Because if not, I think a lot more people would have died.

Lemme get this straight. More people would have died if it weren’t for the vaccine that is killing everyone? For the record, there have already been about 220 million American adults vaccinated. The total population of the U.S. is about 330 million. That means that after all of these vaccinated people die off there only be 110 million people in the whole country. That will have some positive consequences for the environment and anyone who is looking to buy property. Problems with traffic and getting concert tickets will disappear. However, the economy will take a massive hit with the reduction in both people to consume things and people to make things.

This Trumpist also seems a bit confused about the lethality of the vaccine. When asked about Trump’s role in producing it, he flipped his argument, asserting that it actually saved lives. So which is it – miracle cure or deadly toxin? Don’t bother asking any Trump supporter.

As a bonus feature, you may be interested to learn that Donald Trump Jr had his fee fees hurt when he learned that the people of New York hate him and his family. He tweeted a link to an article in the New York Post that claimed that “[Mayor] De Blasio’s bid to rid NYC of Trump name could cost taxpayers over $30 million.”

That $30 million figure is based on dubious estimates by either the Trump Organization (known for misrepresenting the value of their properties) and the NYPost. However, many Trump properties have already divorced themselves from the brand on their own. And there is an argument to be made that ditching the Trump name would make the properties more profitable. So this is a trend that is only just getting started.

Jen Psaki Reminds Fox News that Trump Corrupted the DOJ and Incited an Insurrection

The daily White House press briefing is intended to provide a platform for the administration to outline its agenda and for the press to pose questions to the administration. Ordinarily the press would compose questions that would elicit information of interest to their readers and viewers, the American people.

Jen Psaki, Donald Trump

Unfortunately, that is almost never the case with ultra-partisan right-wing outfits like Fox News. Their correspondents routinely craft inquiries whose only purpose is to malign the President or advance their pre-chewed conservative doctrine. And there is no better example of this media malfeasance than Fox’s Peter Doocy. Every time he is called upon by White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, Doocy scrapes the barrel bottom of pseudo-journalism and opens himself up to well deserved ridicule.

On Monday Doocy sought to trap Psaki by asserting that President Biden had broken a promise not to interfere with how the Justice Department operates. Earlier this week Biden was asked about whether the House Select Committee on January 6th should enforce its subpoenas against witnesses who refuse to cooperate. Biden replied that he hopes “that the committee goes after them and holds them accountable.” When asked whether he believed the Justice Department should prosecute them, Biden told reporters, “I do, yes.”

That was a somewhat imprecise phrasing of the administration’s position. A Justice Department spokesperson quickly clarified that the DOJ “will make its own independent decisions in all prosecutions based solely on the facts and the law.” But unlike Donald Trump, at no time did Biden direct the DOJ to take any particular action. He was merely expressing his “hope” that the law be upheld.

Doocy demonstrated his inquisitory impotence by falsely asserting in a blatantly leading question that Biden broke a promise regarding the administration of the Justice Department. Psaki asked him how Biden had broken any promise. But all that Doocy could come up with was a rewording of the same assertion that Psaki had already answered. That went on for another couple of rounds before leading up to this exchange:

Doocy: What’s changed since last year when [Biden] said ‘I will not do what former president Trump does and use the Justice Department as my vehicle to insist that something happen?’
Psaki: Since you’ve given me the opportunity here, former president Trump used his department to incite an insurrection. He put political pressure on senior DOJ officials to propagate lies about the election to the point where they threatened to resign en mass. I think there is hardly a comparison there.
Doocy: President Biden said, ‘the Justice Department and my administration will be totally independent of me,’ and he said he would not enter into any decisions about what cases the agency will bring and not…
Psaki: And he has not, and he will not .And criminal prosecutions are the sole purview of the Department of Justice. That is the President’s position. That is what he nominated the Attorney General to operate under.

It was helpful of Doocy to remind everyone that Trump had “used the Justice Department as [his] vehicle” to pursue his personal interests and acts of vengeance. Indeed, Trump had repeatedly corrupted the independence of the Justice Department by ordering it to act as if they were his private attorneys. He was even doing it after he was no longer president.

Psaki correctly pointed out to Doocy that “Trump used his department to incite an insurrection” and to “put political pressure on senior DOJ officials.” Trump tried to get the DOJ to buy into his “Big Lie” that the 2020 presidential election was “rigged” and “stolen” from him. But that still didn’t deter Doocy from reiterating his failed argument that Biden had somehow interfered with DOJ decisions. He didn’t. And Psaki affirmed that he wouldn’t.

In the end, the only thing that Doocy accomplished was to provide Psaki with an opportunity to explain in further detail the White House’s dedication to the independence of the Department of Justice. While simultaneously refreshing the public memory about Trump’s misconduct in office and his gross inability to comprehend the proper role of the presidency. So perhaps we don’t give Doocy enough credit for helping Psaki to set the record straight. Thanks Pete.

Crybaby Trump Throws Hysterical Twitter Tantrum After Biden Nixed His Fake Executive Privilege

The bipartisan House Select Committee on the January 6th Insurrection recently issued subpoenas for several associates of Donald Trump who aided and abetted the deadly invasion of the Capitol in Washington, D.C. They include Trump’s chief of staff, Mark Meadows, White House aides Dan Scavino, and Kash Patel, and his former campaign chairman Steve Bannon. All of them have thus far indicated that they will ignore the subpoenas on orders from Trump.

Donald Trump, Joe Biden

The fact that Trump is still exerting control over his political lackeys only strengthens the legal case against him. He is exhibiting a consciousness of guilt and engaging in obstruction of justice. He falsely believes that he can invoke “executive privilege,” a power that only a president can exercise and, despite his delusional obsession, he isn’t one. But even a president can’t use that privilege to cover up a crime.

The actual president, Joe Biden, has announced that he will not be invoking executive privilege on Trump’s behalf. Consequently, documents and other evidentiary material in the possession of the White House will be handed over to the congressional committee.

This has triggered a typical Trump temper tantrum that he unleashed on Twitter with the help of his spokes-shill, Liz Harrington (whose proxy Trump tweeting is violating Twitter’s rules against circumventing a ban). Trump is clearly scared and is trying to twist his fear into some form of defense. But all he can muster is incoherence and desperation:

Trump’s tweet-whining is so jam-packed with preposterous notions that it requires a deeper dive to dissect its puerile perversity. Let’s begin where he began…

“Biden has rejected our request to withhold White House information from the House Unselect Committee investigating the January 6th protest, but has not taken a stance on the insurrection that took place on November 3rd, often referred to as the Crime of the Century.”

Notice first his infantile nicknaming of the Committee as “Unselect.” Ooh, that’ll get ’em. More disturbing is his characterization of the riots that resulted in at least five deaths, and more than 140 law enforcement officers seriously injured, as merely a “protest.” They were just protesting that Nancy Pelosi hadn’t been shot and that Mike Pence hadn’t been hung. Then he says that it was the democratic election that was an insurrection. Never mind that after nearly a year of baseless allegations, and legal challenges, and Republican-run audits, Trump has failed to turn up any evidence of the election fraud he rants about so maniacally. And the only one who has “often referred” to the election as the “Crime of the Century” is Trump himself. But he was just getting started…

This will put the current White House in a terrible position when the inevitable request for information comes concerning the massive corruption by Hunter Biden and the already well-documented crimes committed by the Biden family, the least of which are Hunter’s paintings selling for as much as $500,000 a piece.”

Here Trump is making a threat to seek vengeance, if given the opportunity. However, his threat reeks of the impotence of a loser who has run out of ideas. Despite the efforts of Trump and his Fox News confederates, there has been no evidence of corruption by Hunter Biden, massive or otherwise, who, by the way, isn’t the president or the holder of any other political office. Trump’s attempts at deflection are so pitiful that they rival the idiocy of those attempted by Rudy Giuliani. And the only “well-documented crimes” are those that were committed by the Trump family. Then Trump closed his tirade by saying that…

“With our Country collapsing, with our Military disgraced, with our Borders nonexistent, when will the American people have had enough?”

The American people have already had enough – of Trump. A significant majority (60%) of Americans polled said that a Trump 2024 bid would be bad for the country. Even a minority (44%) of Republicans want him to run again. So no matter how many lies he tells about the country collapsing, he clearly isn’t making any headway after a presidency during which he was impeached twice and never reached 50% approval. And after a year of civilian life, he’s still a liar, he’s still a whiner, and he’s still a loser.

Rick Wilson is LIVID! And Every American Who Wants Justice for January 6th Should Be Too

The House Select Committee on the January 6th Insurrection is just getting off the ground. As part of their investigative process they have begun to issue subpoenas to associates of Donald Trump who aided and abetted the deadly riots that took place in Washington, D.C.

Donald Trump, Fox News, QAnon

The first wave of subpoenas were doled out to Trump insiders including his chief of staff, Mark Meadows, White House aides Dan Scavino, and Kash Patel, and whatever the hell Steve Bannon is (Bannon just joined the crusade of crackpots who think that Trump will be reinstated in “2022 or maybe before”). To date they have all refused to comply with the subpoenas on orders from Trump.

Not only is that indicative of a consciousness of guilt, it constitutes obstruction of justice on Trump’s part. He is invoking “executive privilege” as his justification, despite the fact that he isn’t an “executive” and doesn’t have any such power. What’s more, even the President can’t invoke executive privilege to cover up the commission of crime.

In response to the unlawful evasion of the subpoenas, the Lincoln Project’s Rick Wilson posted a video to express his concern as to whether the Congress will hold the Trump insurrectionists accountable. And he wasn’t shy about his feelings on the subject (warning: video NSFW):

“I am hearing from multiple people now that the subpoenas are not going to be enforced. That the Commission is basically going to slow roll the entire thing. And that they are not going to take it seriously. If you don’t enforce the subpoenas, hang it up now. Just declare Trump president again and tell Steve Bannon he can be the emperor of the f**king right-wing universe and let it all go.”

Wilson dropped a number of other rousing rhetorical bombs in the video. such as…

“These are criminals who tried to overthrow the United States government.”

“These people came to murder you. They would have dragged you out into the street and stomped you to death. And if you don’t punish them and investigate them and bring them to justice, they’ll do it again. A coup attempt that is not punished is a training exercise.”

[And…]

“Do not treat this like something that’s just a delay so you can go back to talking about the infrastructure bill and healthcare. Are you insane?”

Since Wilson didn’t say from whom he was hearing this talk of not enforcing the subpoenas, it’s hard to gauge just how seriously to take his warnings. But if nothing else, it is something that Congress – and especially the members of the Committee – need to hear. And it is something that the American people need to take to heart. They are the best potential influencers of indolent legislators.

On the plus side, the Committee is saying the right things. Friday morning it was reported that the “panel will consider criminal contempt of Congress referral over Trump aides subpoena defiance: ‘We will not allow any witness to defy a lawful subpoena.'” Last month President Biden said through his Press Secretary, Jen Psaki, that he would not abide Trump and the GOP as they “fomented an insurrection.” And the White House has formally blocked Trump’s bogus attempt to claim executive privilege.

We’ll soon see just how committed they are to that course of action. But if they fail to follow through, it will rest with patriotic citizens to make it clear that we will not be satisfied with anything less than the unreserved pursuit of justice and the enactment of punishment where appropriate.

Trump Spokeswoman Posts Racist Attack on Chair of the January 6th Insurrection Committee

It’s been nine months since Donald Trump’s insurrectionists invaded the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to prevent Congress from carrying out its constitutional duty to certifying the presidential election. Their violent and deadly assault failed to achieve their goal of subverting democracy, but it sparked a treasonous revolt that continues to this day.

Donald Trump Insurrection

Trump has still never conceded his loss to President Biden. And his cult followers still harbor delusions that he will be reinstated to his throne, despite having no evidence of any electoral irregularities and no legal pathway to that end. It’s a dangerous fantasy that led directly to the January 6th insurrection in Washington, D.C. And Trump is continuing to fuel the seditionist fires.

On Tuesday morning, Trump’s spokes-shill, Liz Harrington (whose proxy Trump tweeting is violating Twitter’s rules against circumventing a ban), posted a tweet with a link to an article (in fact, she posted it three times) whose headline read “Jan. 6 commission chairman once sympathized with black secessionist group that killed cops.” Both the headline and the article itself where dishonest, racist, and intended to malign Rep. Bennie Thompson who is the chairman of both the Homeland Security Committee and the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack. The article by John Solomon began by stating that…

“Fifty years ago as a Mississippi alderman, Bennie Thompson defended the Republic of New Africa and participated in a news conference blaming cops for the group’s violence even as FBI saw group as waging ‘guerrilla warfare.'”

Fifty years ago? That’s how far back Solomon had to dig to find something that he could warp into a pseudo-scandal. Solomon implies that Thompson was somehow affiliated with the Republic of New Africa (RNA), a separatist organization founded in 1968. But Thompson was neither a member, nor a legal representative. He was simply a local elected official who made a rather uncontroversial statement with regard to a police incident. Thompson said that…

“My utmost concern in this matter is to see that people who reside or pass through the town of Bolton,[MS] are treated fairly and given every opportunity afforded them by law. […] My position is that people are entitled to live as they choose, so long as they are law abiding and peaceful.”

Thompson’s explicit reference to being “law abiding and peaceful” didn’t stop Solomon from associating him with every allegation of criminal activity by the RNA. That’s how Solomon works. He is a disgraced propagandist who was even too disreputable for Fox News, who ditched him last year. The network warned their “news” staff that Solomon lacked credibility and engaged in disinformation campaigns. Solomon was also sent packing by The Hill, who said that he had published misleading columns. In some of those columns he was found to have been clandestinely collaborating with a notoriously untrustworthy source, Rudy Giuliani.

Solomon’s article had a single purpose: to personally vilify the Chairman of the Select Committee so that he could later dismiss the Committee’s work. And he chose to pursue that goal by slandering a well respected Black legislative leader with allusions to past crimes that he had nothing to do with.

Then, along comes Trump and his PR flack to hype the fake scandal. Because the last thing that any of these cretins want is for the truth to come out about what happened on January 6th and who was responsible. But with tactics like this they are only revealing how scared they are of the justice that awaits them.

Jen Psaki Slams Republicans Who Stood By While Trump ‘Fomented an Insurrection’

The new book, Peril, by Bob Woodward and Robert Costa, is sending shockwaves through the national press. Excerpts reveal how the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Mark Milley, was dealing with what he called Donald Trump’s serious mental decline.”

Jen Psaki, Donald Trump

Most of the conservative Whacko Chamber has been hyperventilating over what they say is treason because Milley is reported to have had conversations with his counterparts in China. Never mind that that is a routine part of the job for people in national security posts. When reviewed in context, Milley was merely assuring China that, despite what looked like chaos and instability following the January 6th insurrection in Washington, D.C., the situation in the U.S. was under control and that there was no need to worry about psycho Trump launching a nuclear war.

Trump’s Defense Secretary, Mark Esper, was among those who were reacting to intelligence that said China was concerned about a U.S. attack. And the spokesperson for the Joint Chiefs backed up Milley’s actions saying that…

“The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs regularly communicates with Chiefs of Defense across the world, including with China and Russia. These conversations remain vital to improving mutual understanding of U.S. national security interests, reducing tensions, providing clarity and avoiding unintended consequences or conflict.

“His calls with the Chinese and others in October and January were in keeping with these duties and responsibilities conveying reassurance in order to maintain strategic stability. All calls from the Chairman to his counterparts, including those reported, are staffed, coordinated and communicated with the Department of Defense and the interagency.”

At Wednesday’s White House press briefing, Press Secretary Jen Psaki was asked about Milley and whether President Biden still had confidence in his service. Her answer went a bit further than merely defending Milley. She also touched on the disreputability of his critics and Trump:

Reporter: Is there a point where criticism makes Gen. Milley is unable to continue in this role because it is a new administration, it is a new day, and there are some questions if he exceeded his authority?
Psaki: The President has complete confidence in his leadership, his patriotism, and his fidelity to our Constitution. I can’t speak to the former president’s experience with him or the former president’s views of him. But this current president who follows the Constitution, who’s not fomenting an insurrection, who follows the rule of law, has complete confidence in Chairman Milley and him continuing to serve in his role.
Reporter: Even as Republicans may criticize him and have questions about his suitability to continue, would that be a factor that President Biden would consider?
Psaki: I don’t think the president is looking for the guidance of members of Congress who stood by while the President of the United States and the leader of their party fomented an insurrection and many of them were silent.

It’s pretty remarkable that a White House spokesperson is forced to make a distinction between the former president and the current one “who’s not fomenting an insurrection.” And it’s hard to ignore the significance of her rejecting “the guidance of members of Congress who stood by while [Trump] fomented an insurrection and many of them were silent.”

Clearly it was Milley who was honoring his oath of loyalty to his country and acting out of patriotism. And it was Trump and his GOP minions in Congress who tried to stage a coup and prevent Congress from carrying out its constitutionally mandated duties. Psaki’s responses effectively turned the tables on the treason accusers. And now all we need is for justice to be served to the wrongdoers.

Consciousness of Guilt? GOP Trump-Fluffer Seeks to Obstruct January 6th Insurrection Probe

Nearly eight months ago a crazed horde of hostile Donald Trump cult disciples invaded the United States Congress in an attempt to block the constitutionally mandated certification of Joe Biden’s election. They broke windows, battered down doors, and assaulted police officers, while chanting threats to kill House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and hang Vice-President Mike Pence.

Donald Trump Insurrection

Pelosi gave Republicans an opportunity to support an independent investigation of the January 6th insurrection, but they stubbornly refused. Pelosi then set up a House Select Committee that Republican minority leader Kevin McCarthy also declined to participate in. McCarthy threw a tantrum when Pelosi nixed two of his proposed Committee members, Jim Jordan and Jim Banks, due to their support for, and personal connections to, some of the insurrectionists. Those connections created the potential that they could be called as a witnesses themselves.

As the Committee prepares its investigation, it sought documents related to the events of January 6th and any communications between the insurrectionists and persons in government positions, including the White House, cabinet departments, and members of Congress. That, of course, might include Rep. Jim Banks (R-QAnon).

In what appears to be a pre-emptive move to prevent the disclosure of activities that could implicate him in crimes, Banks fired off a letter to Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson making the specious argument that it was improper to request the materials being collected. Banks also sent the letter to the general counsels of AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon.

“One House Republican is gearing up to fight an effort from the committee probing the Jan. 6 Capitol attack to collect the communications of members of Congress.

“The pushback from Rep. Jim Banks (R-Ind.) comes after committee Chairman Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) told reporters this week that he plans to ask telecommunications companies to turn over the records of several hundred people, including lawmakers.”

The letter that Banks sent sounds strikingly similar to the pleading of a defense attorney trying to suppress evidence that incriminates his client. Banks gave the telecom companies unsolicited advice saying that “recipients of legislative subpoenas retain their constitutional rights throughout the course of an investigation.” So what we have here is a member of Congress (who does not serve on the committee of jurisdiction) attempting to persuade corporations that possess materials relevant to an investigation to withhold those materials. That’s not suspicious at all, is it?

Banks is taking a page from the playbook of his mentor and messiah, Donald Trump. When Trump heard about the subpoenas by the Committee, he released a statement, via his spokes-shill, Liz Harrington (whose proxy Trump tweeting is violating Twitter’s rules against circumventing a ban), claiming that…

“Executive privilege will be defended, not just on behalf of my Administration and the Patriots who worked beside me, but on behalf of the Office of the President of the United States and the future of our Nation.”

You have to wonder if it’s the result of Trump’s narcissism, ignorance, or dementia that causes him to believe that he still has the power to invoke executive privilege.

Finally, it should be noted that the letter Banks sent was probably written in consultation with his communications director, Buckley Carlson. Buckley is the son of Fox News ranter, Tucker Carlson, who last month viciously slandered one of the police officers who heroically defended the Capitol on January 6th.

Banks has proven that Pelosi was right to block him from the Committee. His extremist views show that he would not have been interested in an honest investigation, but rather only in protecting Trump and defending his “Big Lie” that the 2020 presidential election was “stolen” from him. The very lie that Trump used to incite the insurrectionist riots in Washington, D.C. in the first place.

Sen. Grassley Stands Up for Trump’s Right to Conspire to Stage a Coup with DOJ Staff

The evidence that Donald Trump was – and still is – engaged in a treasonous plot to overturn the 2020 presidential election continues to pour in. Recent reports reveal his attempts to pressure the acting Attorney General, Jeffrey Rosen, to “just say that the election was corrupt + leave the rest to me and the R. Congressmen.” Trump has not disputed these accounts.

Donald Trump, Constitution

The newly impaneled House Select Committee investigating the January 6th insurrection just interviewed Rosen and, while the details have not been made public, there is general information that has been disclosed, and which are cause for serious concern. However, that concern is apparently not shared by Sen. Chuck Grassley, the ranking Republican member of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Instead, what Grassley was concerned with was that…

“This country has had to deal with Democrats’ obsession with destroying Trump for much too long. In the process I fear my colleagues on the other side of the aisle have done, and will do, lasting damage to our political system.”

If the Democrats are “obsessed” with anything, it’s the preservation of American democracy. And if anyone is doing “lasting damage to the political process,” it’s Donald Trump, who has become, in the words of Carl Bernstein, an American war criminal.” But that isn’t exactly how Grassley sees it. He went on to say that…

“The president has every right to discuss ideas and strategies with his closest advisors. The president, whether that president is Democrat or Republican, should feel unrestrained to bring ideas to his closest staff for robust discussion. Eventually the facts will come out and Trump will have to address them. Good or bad, depending on the facts at hand.

“However, the essential question that should be asked: What was the final decision? And that is my major concern about the recent public comments coming out of these interviews I’ve discussed relating to this new Trump investigation. Unlike my Democratic colleagues, I won’t discuss the evidence publicly at this point in time. But let me remind the American public with a couple already public points. Did Trump fire acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen? No, he did not fire him.”

https://twitter.com/espiers/status/1424836363841675270

To be clear, Grassley is making the case that the president has the right to conspire against the United States of America, and to that end, he must be free to discuss “ideas and strategies” for staging a coup to seize power. Really? Perhaps the ranking Republican member of the Judiciary Committee should peruse the U.S. Constitution. Because what he’s suggesting is a flagrant breach of the supreme law of the land.

What’s more, the “essential question” is certainly not “What was the final decision?” No more than that would be the essential question in a case of conspiracy to rob a bank. The conspiracy is unlawful in and of itself. And Trump’s decision not to fire Rosen only came about when he was confronted by the threat of mass resignations by Justice Department officials. Trump didn’t have pangs of conscience that led him to do the right thing. He had a stabbing fear that his exploits would lead to a “Saturday Night Massacre” moment and he would suffer the same fate that Richard Nixon did.

For Grassley utter these words on the Senate floor without any sense of shame is illustrative of just how far down the rabid hole he has sunk. And like most of the rest of the Republican Party, he is nothing more than a Trump flunky serving Dear Leader and ignoring the welfare – and the laws – of the nation. For that reason, the American people need to stay active and engaged and determined to vote out every Republican on the ballot in 2022. The stakes are too high to get complacent or apathetic. Not with people like Grassley in high positions of power.

JUDGE: Trump’s ‘Frivolous’ Lawsuit is ‘The Stuff of Which Violent Insurrections Are Made’

The nine month saga of Donald Trump’s crusade to overturn an election and subvert democracy is proceeding with more humiliating consequences for Trump and his accomplices. Trump is undeterred by recent embarrassments like the revelation that he admitted to pressuring the Department of Justice to “Just Say the Election Was Corrupt,” and his having claimed for himself the exclusive “right” to destroy America. The Former Guy just continues to suffer the disgrace of defeat in every legal battle he takes on.

Donald Trump, Fox News, QAnon

The latest court smackdown for the Trump camp comes in the form of a sanction by a judge in Colorado. The judge lambasted Trump’s attorneys for bringing a case challenging the 2020 presidential election that was “frivolous,” “not warranted by existing law” and filed “in bad faith.” As reported by the Washington Post

“In a scathing 68-page opinion, Magistrate Judge N. Reid Neureiter found that the lawyers made little effort to corroborate information they had included in the suit, which argued there had been a vast national conspiracy to steal the election from former president Donald Trump. […]

“Calling the suit ‘one enormous conspiracy theory,’ Neureiter ordered that the duo must pay the legal fees of all the individuals and companies they had sued — 18 separate entities in all — as a way to deter future similar cases.”

The judge made a point of chastising the attorneys “for quoting Trump in their legal filing,” regarding a baseless claim that “voting machines manufactured by the company Dominion Voting Systems had ‘deleted 2.7 million Trump votes nationwide.'” Dominion has filed a billion dollar lawsuit against Fox News for making the same unfounded claim that this judge called “‘highly disputed and inflammatory.”

The bizarre lawsuit by Trump’s team was filed as a class action on behalf of 160 million American voters who have not agreed to be members of the class. However the most damning criticism from the judge came when he unambiguously linked the Trump lawsuit to the riots in Washington, D.C., on January 6th:

“Albeit disorganized and fantastical, the Complaint’s allegations are extraordinarily serious and, if accepted as true by large numbers of people, are the stuff of which violent insurrections are made.”

The judge’s recognition of the potential for future hostilities by a deranged faction of Trump cultists is a realistic observation of how Trump’s anti-democratic tirades could get even uglier going forward. And it’s significant that he’s sanctioning the attorneys for their misconduct.

There must be more of this sort of punishment for lawyers who purposefully abuse the judicial system. And there must be punishment for Trump as well, whose efforts to orchestrate a coup and crown himself America’s first dictator are anti-American and a clear and present danger to the nation.

Sen. Collins Lets Slip that ‘There Were Many Communications with Trump’ on January 6th

The investigations into Donald Trump’s culpability for the riots in Washington, D.C., on January 6th have barely just begun. So far there has been a one hearing that featured four law enforcement officers who were assaulted by Trump’s Insurrection Brigades. Naturally, Fox News immediately set out to malign the officers.

Donald Trump Insurrection

There is still much be learned as the investigation continues. The documentary and testimonial evidence is growing by the day. In that regard, Sen. Susan Collins of Maine helpfully added herself to the list of witnesses. On CNN’s State of the Union, Collins was questioned by host Jake Tapper about the House Select Committee that is probing the Trump-incited mob violence that sought to disrupt Congress from carrying out its constitutional duty to certify the election.

Collins told Tapper said that she “fought very hard” for an independent, bipartisan, 9/11-style commission to investigate the January 6th insurrection. But she failed to note that it was her Republican Senate minority leader, Mitch McConnell, whose opposition killed it. Then she goes on to complain about the Select Committee not being bipartisan, despite Speaker Nancy Pelosi placing two Republicans on the panel. It was GOP House minority leader, Kevin McCarthy, who refused to seat three other Republicans.

Tapper pointed out that two of McCarthy’s GOP picks for the Committee, Jim Banks and Jim Jordan, were “election liars,” and Jordan is likely to be called as a witness. To which Collins replied that, “There were many communications with [then] president Trump that day.”

Really? Who would that be? We know about Kevin McCarthy and Jim Jordan who, by their own admissions, spoke with Trump. Although both are declining to reveal the substance of their conversations. But if there were “many” others, then maybe Collins needs to be subpoenaed as a witness to disclose what she knows about those members of Congress. Were they calling Trump to plead with him to call off his insurrectionist brigades? Were they calling to plot strategy for the attempted coup after the assault on Congress?

These questions must be answered. And now Collins has woven herself into the investigation as a material witness. We know that Trump has gone to extraordinary lengths to subvert democracy. It is imperative that he be held accountable to restore faith in the American experiment. But all of those who were complicit in the domestic terrorism that Trump incited must also be held accountable. Including members of Congress who aided and abetted Trump’s treason.

Consequently, Collins must now be required to disclose what she knows, under oath, before the Committee. The seriousness of the crimes committed by Trump cannot be overstated. He was recently described as a war criminal by Carl Bernstein. And his accomplices must not be allowed to escape responsibility.
