Biden’s Popularity is Driving Fox News Crazy, Reporting Insane Distortions of Polls

As President Joe Biden approaches the 100 day mark of his presidency, his critics at Fox News are struggling to find anything coherent to complain about. That’s a profound failure coming from the network whose CEO, Lachlan Murdoch, publicly declared that the network’s “job” is to be “the opposition” to the Biden administration. Apparently they are doing a lousy job.

Fox News, Joe Biden

Consequently, Fox News has had to resort to petty and embarrassing contrivances and manufactured “scandals” involving such political luminaries as Dr. Seuss and Mr. Potato Head. Yet somehow, these tactics haven’t produced the avalanche of anti-Biden sentiment that Fox News hoped for. As a result, the right-wing propagandists at Fox are attempting to misinterpret the mostly positive polling that Biden has enjoyed. Monday morning Fox contributor Liz Peek reported that…

“They want us to believe that Biden’s progressive juggernaut is wildly popular, and that the president’s obvious inadequacies are a figment of right-wing imagination. They want us to think that common-sense Americans are OK with having our schools closed and our borders open, that we are on board with declaring our country racist and allowing riots to wreck our cities. They want us to believe that Biden is way more successful – already – than President Trump ever was. It is not true. None of it.”

For the record, literally everything in that paragraph is a lie. No Democrat has ever suggested that closed schools are OK. Nor have they ever advocated for open borders. Nor have they declared the country racist (just the cretins like Tucker Carlson who are proudly racist and those who deny that it ever existed). And certainly no Democrat has ever supported “allowing riots to wreck our cities.”

However, Peek’s reference to Biden being “way more successful – already – than President Trump ever was” is demonstrably true. In four years Trump has nothing substantive to show for himself. He failed at everything that he defined as his top priorities. His border wall was never completed or paid for by Mexico. He didn’t eliminate the national debt. He never brought jobs back from foreign countries, but he did lose more of them than any president in modern times. And he presided over the loss of more than half a million America lives due to his negligence and incompetence. His only “accomplishment” was the passage of a tax bill that overwhelmingly benefited corporations and his wealthy pals.

Biden, on the other hand, ushered through a two trillion dollar pandemic relief and stimulus plan. He rejoined the Paris Climate Accords. He signed numerous executive orders reversing much of the damage done by Trump. He is advancing historic infrastructure legislation. He’s moving forward expeditiously on reforms for immigration, gun safety, and voting rights. And he effectively managed COVID vaccine programs that have already resulted in 30% the country being fully vaccinated.

To support her flawed analysis that Biden is broadly unpopular, Peek cited a Gallup poll that found that only “32% of the nation is “satisfied” with the way things are going, while 67% is dissatisfied.” What she left out was that the same poll showed only 11% satisfied at the end of Trump’s term three months ago. All this proves is that Americans are notoriously unsatisfied, but that Biden produced a 21 point increase in short order.

Further distorting reality, Peek cherry-picked a poll that shows Biden with a plurality approval of 48%, which is pretty good in these divisive times. But then she spins it negatively because the “strongly approve” number is only 34%, which is still pretty good. She neglects to note that many other polls show Biden’s approval comfortably above 50% and as high as 61%. And his policies – including on the economy, jobs, terrorism, immigration, and COVID-19 – are similarly favored by significant majorities.

Interestingly, Peek notes that a majority of Biden voters said they were voting against Trump rather than for Biden. That’s nice of her to concede that Trump is widely despised. She also pointed out that voters approve of Biden’s jobs plan, but only if it’s paid for “through higher corporate taxes or hiking taxes on high earners.” Which is another helpful concession on her part that Trump’s tax scam was a disaster, and that the nation wants the rich to pay their fair share.

In the end, after dismissing the obvious distortions and lies, Fox’s analysis is fairly positive for Biden. That’s how difficult it’s been for them to land a punch against this President, even in spite of all the dishonesty they pack into the effort. If they were smart they would back off until there’s a realistic issue to whine about. Something will always come up. But the operative word there is “smart,” which may be too high a bar for anyone at Fox News.

Rupert Murdoch’s New York Post is Purposefully Spreading Fake Fear of COVID Vaccines

There has been some good news recently about the progress being made with regard to the COVID-19 pandemic. The rates of new cases, hospitalizations, and fatalities have declined to the lowest rates seen in many months. And the Biden administration’s management of vaccine distribution and implementation has been extraordinarily effective.

Rupert Murdoch, COVID

According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), nearly 50% of U.S. adults have received at least one dose of vaccine, and 30% have been fully vaccinated. This could bring about a state of herd immunity much sooner than previously estimated.

However, there are still some hurdles in the way. For one thing, The least vaccinated U.S. counties are, not surprisingly, mostly dominated by Trump voters. That is likely due to the recklessly negative propaganda promulgated by Fox News, where vaccine conspiracy theories proliferate. Tucker Carlson has been especially active in driving up anti-vax hysteria.

Joining Fox News is their sister publication owned by Rupert Murdoch, the New York Post. They have been engaged in a dishonest and deadly campaign aimed at magnifying doubts about the vaccines and frightening the public away from getting vaccinated. Case in point, the right-wing “news” paper published an article fear mongering about a college student in Cincinnati who died shortly after being vaccinated:

The Post’s own reporting eventually (four paragraphs in) admitted that there was no evidence that the death had anything to do with the vaccine. They later deleted both the article and the tweet promoting it. But they never issued a retraction or an apology, or made any effort to correct the record for those readers who were unnecessarily panicked. And what makes this irresponsibility all the more reprehensible is that this wasn’t the first time that the Post engaged in this sort of disinformation and perilously inflammatory – and flagrantly false – hyperbole. Just in the past few months…

  • December 29, 2020: Israeli man reportedly dies of heart attack hours after getting COVID vaccine https://trib.al/0JiXxwB
  • January 24, 2021: Californian dies hours after getting COVID-19 vaccine, prompting probe https://trib.al/MtcfP9f
  • February 7, 2021: Elderly man collapses, dies shortly after getting COVID-19 vaccine at Javits Center https://trib.al/GTMJC89
  • April 16, 2021: NJ man hospitalized after J&J COVID-19 vaccine placed on ventilator

In every one of those stories the Post either acknowledged that there were no connections between the vaccine and the fatality, or they failed to provide any evidence of a connection. It was simply their attempt needlessly scare people to satisfy some perverse, political agenda. Never mind that last December Rupert Murdoch jetted off to the U.K. to get vaccinated himself by their socialist National Health Service.

The New York Post is unambiguously acting as anti-health terrorists. They are endangering the lives of both those who will be dissuaded from getting vaccinated, and the rest of the nation’s population that will be vulnerable to the consequences of delaying herd immunity and increasing the opportunity for new variants to emerge. It is criminal deceit and there ought to be a price to be paid.

Jen Psaki Schools Newsmax Shill on the History of Systemic Racism in America

There really needs to be more stringent criteria for who is granted press credentials in the White House Briefing Room. Without some standard for experience and professionalism you wind up making Press Secretary Jen Psaki waste time with questions that are nothing more than pre-scripted, fact-averse hit pieces.

Jen Psaki

Friday morning provided a perfect example of this “gotcha-ism” when Psaki was confronted by the new White House correspondent for Newsmax, Emerald Robinson. She recently joined Newsmax after her stint at One America News Network (OANN). So her journalism pedigree is pitifully lacking in journalistic integrity. Robinson sought to corner Psaki with a loaded question that totally warped reality:

“The U.S. Ambassador to the U.N., Linda Thomas-Greenfield, talking on Wednesday said that essentially white supremacy is woven into our founding documents and principles. The statement is getting widely criticized as essentially parroting Chinese Communist Party talking point. So is the President going to remove her from her position as the representative before that body?”

The first thing you might notice is that Robinson is painfully ignorant about American history and the nation’s founding documents. Most Americans know that the this country’s originating “principles” permitted slavery and that the Constitution counted African slaves as three-fifths of person. There was also a little thing called the “Civil War” that addressed racial issues in America. And even today’s headlines are filled with examples of the systemic racism that persists.

In addition to those glaring omissions, Robinson also revealed her rookie reporting skills by trying to give her question more credibility by asserting that the Ambassador’s comments were “widely criticized.” By whom? Her bosses at Newsmax? The Republicans she shills for? Capitol insurrections out on bail?

What’s more, it is patently absurd to associate the remarks by Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield with the Chinese Communist Party. Just because a foreign adversary says something similar to an American diplomat doesn’t mean it isn’t true. If a Chinese diplomat criticized America’s early racial bigotry, they would have been stating something that is unarguably true. In fact, it would still be true if they said it today. Psaki had a quick retort that should have put the matter to rest:

“Is POTUS going to remove an African-American woman with decades of experience in the foreign service who’s widely respected around the world from her position as Ambassador to the U.N.? He’s not. He is proud to have her in that position. She is not only qualified, he believes she is exactly the right person in that role in this moment in time.

“I have not seen her comments. I will say that there is no question that there has been a history of institutional racism in this country, and that doesn’t require the U.N. Ambassador to confirm that.”

Unfortunately, Robinson wasn’t satisfied and persisted with her ludicrous line of questions to ask “does the President think our founding documents are racist?” Psaki declined to dignify the inquiry further, saying simply that “most people recognize the history of systemic racism in our country.” And if Robinson needs any additional evidence of American racism, all she has to do is watch her network and note the rampant racism that emanates from its programs every hour of every day.

Early on the Biden administration expressed its intent to manage press relations in a manner that would be starkly different from the hostile work environment fostered by Donald Trump. There would be no more barking at reporters and insulting them as “enemies of the people.” Biden “promised not to allow outlets to use the briefings to spread baseless conspiracies,” and vowed that “Organizations or individuals who traffic in conspiracy theories, propaganda and lies to spread disinformation will not be tolerated.”

It’s time to make good on those promises. There is no way that Newsmax should be entitled to a White House press pass. They don’t conduct responsible, honest journalism. And they don’t aspire to professional standards of ethics. They are unabashed purveyors of propaganda who seek only to malign their ideological foes and advance the ultra-rightists for whom they work. And by the way, all of that applies equally as well to Fox News.

Tucker Carlson of Fox News Says ‘Vaccines Don’t Work and They’re Not Telling You’

For more than a year now, Fox News has been working diligently to exacerbate the deadly consequences of COVID pandemic. Along with Donald Trump, they have downplayed the severity of the crisis and maligned the experts who sought to protect the public’s health. In fact, studies have proven that watching Fox News actually increases coronavirus fatalities.

Fox News, Tucker Carlson, Coronavirus

No one at Fox News has been more guilty of these disinformation crimes than Tucker Carlson. He has promulgated lies and promoted medically preposterous conjecture. He has disparaged knowledgeable professionals like Dr. Fauci. He has denied the value of vaccines even while his boss, Rupert Murdoch was butting in front of the line to get his.

On Tuesday night Carlson took another leap down the rabid hole. In a monologue that will surely result in higher mortality rates, Carlson demonstrated how pitifully ignorant he is and unable to grasp simple medical concepts (video below). He ranted that federal health authorities…

“…recommend you continue to wear your masks when you go outside. How long will this continue? Well, according to the Yahoo news, experts say it is ‘not entirely clear when it will be considered okay for people who are fully vaccinated to stop wearing masks.’

“At some point – no one is asking this but everyone should be – what is this about? If vaccines work, why are vaccinated people still banned from living normal lives? Honestly, what’s the answer to that. It doesn’t make any sense at all. If the vaccine is effective, there’s no reason for people who’ve received a vaccine to wear masks or avoid physical contact.”

Honestly, what doesn’t make any sense at all is Carlson’s arrogance in believing that his conclusions about public health have greater validity than doctors who have spent their lives studying it. The guidance for safe behavior is fluid due to evolving science and study. Public health professionals are right to always provide the most cautious appraisals so as not to incur unnecessary harm.

Remaining masked after being vaccinated is simply the best advice to protect oneself and others. It doesn’t mean that the vaccines don’t work. Carlson is too stupid to grasp that. so he continued to sum up saying that…

“So maybe it doesn’t work and they’re simply not telling you that. Well, you’d hate to think that especially if you’ve gotten two shots. But what’s the other potential explanation? We can’t think of one.”

The fact that Carlson can’t think of another explanation just proves how intellectually vacant he is. And he’s apparently not embarrassed to admit it. But even worse is his promulgation of the conspiracy theory that the ever-present “they” know that the vaccine is a hoax and are deliberately keeping it a secret. Seriously? That’s what Carlson and Fox News want to foist on a nation that has already suffered the loss of more than half a million people?

The damage that Fox News is doing is hitting their own viewers hardest. Their audience is made up predominantly of elderly white men, a group that is more vulnerable to severe consequences should they contract the coronavirus. A new Monmouth poll finds that “21% of Americans claim they will never get the vaccine if they can avoid it […] 43% of Republicans versus just 5% of Democrats saying this.” You can safely assume that most of those vax-deniers are Fox News viewers.

Meanwhile, at CNN, Dr. Fauci was asked to respond to Carlson’s nonsense. He said that…

“Yeah, that’s just a typical crazy conspiracy theory. […] I don’t have any idea what he’s talking about. […] It’s certainly not helpful to the public health of this nation, or even globally. You know, I don’t want to get into arguments about Tucker Carlson, but to me it’s just — you know, it’s counter to what we’re trying to accomplish to protect the safety and the health of the American public.”

This might be a good to remind everyone that Fox News defended Tucker Carlson from a defamation lawsuit by arguing – successfully! – that “given Mr. Carlson’s reputation, any reasonable viewer ‘arrive[s] with an appropriate amount of skepticism’ about the statements he makes.” In other words, Carlson is a known liar whose commentaries can be dismissed out of hand as the ravings of an unhinged crackpot. He is also guilty – along with Fox News – of negligent homicide and mass murder. Hopefully they will eventually be held to account.

Trump Excretes An Utterly Delusional and Paranoid Rant About ‘His’ COVID Vaccines

The Former Guy is at it again. Donald Trump is putting out press releases in lieu of tweets since his banishment from Twitter. He is said to prefer his exile because he thinks these press releases are more eloquent. And besides, he’s plotting his return to social media with his own branded alternative: Qwitter?

Donald Trump, Coronavirus

In the meantime, Trump has just posted one of his “eloquent” press releases (see below) lashing out at President Biden because the FDA and the CDC have temporarily paused distribution of the Johnson & Johnson COVID vaccine. The action was taken “out of an abundance of caution” due to reports of rare incidents of blood clots affecting literally less than one in a million people.

Trump’s commentary was a typically incoherent run-on paragraph overflowing with hostility directed outward at others and affinity directed inward at himself. He began by saying that…

“The Biden administration did a terrible disservice to people throughout the world by allowing the FDA and the CDC to call a ‘pause’ in the use of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine.”

First of all, Biden didn’t do this at all. Unlike Trump, the Biden administration treats the FDA and CDC as independent health authorities acting in the service of science, rather than an egomaniacal occupant of the White House. Trump continued saying that…

“The results of this vaccine have been extraordinary but now its reputation will be permanently challenged. The people who have already taken the vaccine will be up in arms, and perhaps all of this was done for politics or perhaps it’s the FDA’s love for Pfizer. The FDA, especially with long-time bureaucrats within, has to be controlled, They should not be able to do such damage for possibly political reasons, or maybe because their friends at Pfizer have suggested it. They’ll do things like this to make themselves look important.”

Trump is purposefully trying to alarm people and get them to become “up in arms” because he thrives on fomenting fear and division. His ludicrous assertion that the FDA “has to be controlled” is just the sort of idiocy that resulted in more than half a million Americans dying of COVID on his watch. And his determination to make everything political is further evidence of his inability to grasp the severity of the pandemic and the need for competent leadership. But Trump still wasn’t through making an ass of himself:

“Remember, it was the FDA working with Pfizer, who announced the vaccine approval two days after the 2020 Presidential Election. They didn’t like me very much because I pushed them extremely hard. But if I didn’t, you wouldn’t have a vaccine for 3-5 years, or maybe not at all. It takes them years to act! Do your testing, clean up the record, and get the Johnson & Johnson vaccine back online quickly. The only way we defeat the China Virus is with our great vaccines!”

Paranoia strikes deep! Trump is still trying to peddle the bizarre conspiracy theory that Pfizer and all the health experts throughout the world were aligned against him. He may be right that he is widely disliked, but that’s only because he’s a narcissistic sociopath who has created unimaginable suffering and loss. And he had little to do with the development of the vaccines that he is now claiming credit for. Pfizer didn’t even participate in his vaunted “Operation Warp Speed.”

Ironically, Trump’s Tuesday tirade may serve to get more people vaccinated. He is finally advocating for vaccinations, despite his having downplayed them in the past and received his own in secret. But he still couldn’t resist taking another racist swing at Asian-Americans with his derogatory “China virus” epithet. But then, it wouldn’t be Trump if he wasn’t being offensive, obnoxious, and infantile.

Fox News Attempts (and Hysterically Fails) to Contrive a Fake Biden Scandal

Ever since the presidential election last November, Fox News has been at its wits end (admittedly not a long walk) trying to tarnish Joe Biden. They have attacked his marriage, slandered his dogs, accused him of plotting to “take down America,” and crowned him as the King of “Cancel Culture” (a role that more accurately describes Donald Trump). In the meantime, the GOP has hitched it’s wobbly wagon to America’s Biggest Loser.

Joe Biden, Donald Trump Baby, Fake News

However, despite the evidence of the untimely demise of Dr. Seuss and Mr. Potato Head (they have their priorities), Fox News has been utterly incapable of concocting any tales of impropriety that can stick to the wily Biden. Their impotent schemes just keep serving up more humiliation for Fox than for their would-be target. And an outstanding example of Fox’s failure to launch came Saturday evening in the form of a tweet by Trump’s former Deputy Chief of Staff for Communications, Dan Scavino:

Oh My! The necessity for immediate ethics investigations is rarely advocated by anyone associated with Trump. And for good reason. Trump presided over an administration that was an ethics black hole. But Scavino’s outrage was so intense that he had speak up. His tweet linked to a Fox News article that revealed the sordid circumstances surrounding a Biden website mishap:

“The White House said Thursday that a link to a page on the Biden campaign website in the WhiteHouse.gov fact sheet for the president’s $2 trillion-plus spending plan was put there in error. The link was included on the words ‘more likely’ deep in the body of the 25-page document. The line where it was included said, ‘People of color and low-income people are more likely to live in areas most vulnerable to flooding and other climate change-related weather events.’ The link was eventually taken down.”

Good Lord! The horror of this malfeasance truly needs to be explored in more detail. Fox News reported that a Republican congresswoman, Victoria Spartz, uncovered the travesty. She posted her own tweet excoriating the Biden White House and announcing her letter of disapproval dispatched to the Office of the Special Counsel:

You’ll notice that Biden’s White House Director of Digital Strategy, Rob Flaherty, responded promptly with an acknowledgement of the error and its correction. That’s something that the Trump White House never would have considered, no matter how depraved the offense.

This whole affair, however, requires a closer look. The video provided by Spartz shows that the errant link to a Biden campaign donation page was buried deeply on the White House website’s page that detailed his American Jobs Plan.” It would take a committed reader to peruse the page all the way down to the naughty link (which has, indeed, been removed).

But that’s not the end of this tawdry tale. Had anyone clicked on the link that Scavino and Spartz were so offended by, they would have been taken to a page on the old Biden campaign website that had information about his climate agenda. While that was not a donation page itself, it did have links to a page where donations could have been made. There was just one one problem. When arriving at that page there was a message that said…

“You have attempted to make a contribution to a fundraising page that has no active recipients: either the page’s owner has removed all committees or organizations from the page, or we have concluded processing contributions for these committees or organizations.”

So to recap, 1) Scavino was appalled by a Fox News story about… 2) …an irate GOP representative who… 3) …complained about an allegedly improper link that… 4) …lead to nowhere. Somebody call the Dead Link Police! Why isn’t the FBI all over this criminal conspiracy?

As an addendum to this melodrama, the Fox News article that started it all also segued into an attack on Biden’s jobs/infrastructure initiative. They wrote that…

“Biden’s spending plan, formally titled the American Jobs Plan, is being sold as an infrastructure proposal and has broad support from most Democrats in Congress, though there are some that appear reluctant to back it as one massive bill. Republicans uniformly oppose the plan and say most of it is not actually spending on infrastructure but instead designed to bolster assorted liberal priorities.”

For the record, the Biden plan (like his COVID relief/stimulus plan before it) is broadly popular among the American people, including Republicans, despite being “uniformly opposed” by the knee-jerk obstructionist GOP members of Congress.

GOOD NEWS: Republicans Bet Future on the Century’s Biggest Loser, Donald Trump

The Republican National Committee has just announced that Donald Trump will be a featured a speaker at their party retreat on Saturday. The retreat, by the way, will be held at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort, so it will not only be propping up his ego before an audience of drooling sycophants, it will be filling his pockets with cash.

Donald Trump Circling the Drain

The fact that Republicans are still so anxious to enrich Trump is a testament to the power of his con artistry. This comes after he angrily instructed his cult followers not to donate to the GOP, but to him instead. And then he ripped those donors off by deceiving them about what (and how much) they were donating.

But that isn’t the worst of it. By embracing Trump as the banner carrier of the Republican Party, they are hitching their wagon to this century’s biggest loser. Following two terms of Bush, then two terms of Obama, Trump promptly flamed out after only one term. And it was a spectacularly disastrous term that saw more than half a million Americans die due to Trump’s negligent and incompetent mishandling of the COVID pandemic.

Trump was also the first president in history to be impeached twice. He is the first president in decades to leave office with fewer people employed than when he started. He exploded the national debt by cutting taxes for corporations and the wealthy. He advanced the nuclear aspirations of both Iran and North Korea. He withdrew the U.S. from the international Paris Climate Change Accords. And he incited deadly riots in Washington, D.C. by insurrectionist mobs.

Nevertheless, as reported by Fox News, Republicans are still addicted to Trump’s brand of divisiveness, dishonesty, and his bullheaded attachment to willful ignorance:

“In his keynote address to GOP donors at his Mar-a-lago resort, the former president is expected to lay into President Biden on issues like cancel culture, proposed gun restrictions and especially for the record-breaking surge of migrants crossing the southern border.”

So The Trump-loving GOP has three top priorities for their future electoral agenda. The first will be “cancel culture,” a Fox News buzzword that holds little meaning to most Americans. Secondly will be opposition to sensible gun safety reforms that most Americans – including many Republicans – support. And third will be immigration, an issue that is near the bottom of the American people’s concerns, despite the efforts of the GOP and Fox News to fear monger and spread racist “white replacement” conspiracy theories. Fox’s report continued with quotes from Trump’s draft speech:

“I stand before you this evening filled with confidence that in 2022, we are going to take back the House and we are going to reclaim the Senate–and then in 2024, a Republican candidate is going to win the White House,” Trump says in the prepared remarks provided to Fox News. Trump is expected to accuse Biden of putting “America Last,” sowing cancel culture wars and not delivering on his promise to unite the country.”

In other words, the same old vacant political rhetoric that is slathered in lies and utterly devoid of any factual basis. Trump also takes a swipe at Biden as not “hav[ing] the energy, the capacity, or the stamina” for the job. Never mind that a Fox News poll found that that voters considered Trump as the “mentally unsound” candidate.

The GOP had an opportunity to get out from under that orange mop-topped anchor, but have decided to stick with the devil they know. Democrats may want to send their Republican counterparts a “thank you” card for making Trump the face of their party for the foreseeable future. It really is the best thing that can happen for Democratic hopes to secure their congressional majorities and hold on to the White House in 2024.

UPDATE: As expected, Trump delivered an ego-drenched oratory focused almost entirely on his delusional “Big Lie” insistence that the 2020 election was “stolen” from him. In the process he trashed leading Republicans like Sen. Mitch McConnell (as a “dumb son of a bitch”) and former VP Mike Pence (as a “disappointment”). And this self-serving insult fest was at a GOP pep rally intended to motivate party regulars prior to the upcoming election season. Nice work, Donnie.

Jen Psaki Draws Lame Attack By Shamelessly Dishonest Right-Wing Media Org

The desperation of the conservative propaganda machine is blowing up. They have nothing substantive for which to criticize President Biden. They failed miserably to smear his broadly popular COVID relief and stimulus plan, that even a majority of Republicans supported. And they are suffering the same fate with Biden’s infrastructure bill and their tone-deaf efforts to make it harder to vote.

Fox News, Jen Psaki

Republicans are making an epic blunder by not only opposing such highly favored policies, but by voting unanimously against them despite the public’s overwhelming support. That is going to backfire on them badly in the upcoming 2022 election cycle.

So in place of developing policies that the American people actually like, the right is frantically trying to misrepresent the positive things that Democrats are doing. For example, the radical rightists at the Media Research Center (NewsBusters) just went after Biden’s press secretary, Jen Psaki. They tweeted a video that they claimed showed Psaki “blame[ing] the Trump administration for the crisis at the border that has happened exclusively under Joe Biden’s watch.”

PBS White House correspondent, Yamiche Alcindor: The Family Reunification Task Force is saying as of now that they haven’t reunited any families because they’re still sorting through the system. Can you talk a minute about why they haven’t been able to reunite families. What are the concerns and challengers that are even more pronounced than what you thought they were gonna be?
Psaki: Sure. First we can’t overstate how complex this challenge is. The prior administration didn’t have have a system in place to track the children and parents who were separated. They also, of course, separated them themselves. But the task force has been in place for about two months. The focus right now, at this period of time, has been about reviewing thousands of records. And a significant number of issues have come up in these existing files, including incorrect dates and names.[…] They’ve also identified 5,600 new files that were not reviewed and have begun the process for checking those files. The task force is also working closely with the ACLU to process identified families so we can reunite them as swiftly as possible. They’ll have a full report that’s due on June 2nd.

It could not be more apparent that both the question and the eloquently delivered answer were explicitly related to the abhorrent family separation policies of the Trump administration. It had nothing to do with the alleged border “crisis” that Fox News and the GOP have been trying so hard to spin into a scandal. The family separation policies were wholly devised and implemented by Trump’s team. It was never the position of Biden, or the Obama administration either.

So the News Blusters are lying with the abandon of … well … Republicans. They have to know that what was discussed in the video that they themselves posted was about a policy that was exclusively Trump’s and that Biden had nothing to do with.

This sort of gaslighting is typical of the rightist disinformation squads. They are so bereft of a positive message, or a factual, coherent, negative take on Biden, that they have to invent controversies that exist nowhere in reality. It’s the sort of intellectual vacancy that produces weeks of ludicrous reports about the “canceling” of Dr. Seuss and Mr. Potato Head. And it eventually descends to this depth of depravity from Fox News:

“White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki got snippy with a reporter on Wednesday who questioned why Vice President Kamala Harris had time to visit a Chicago bakery amid the lingering border crisis she has been tasked to deal with. The exchange between Psaki and New York Post reporter Steven Nelson came during a press briefing at the White House.”

Does this look “snippy” to you?

Fox News UnHistory: Tucker Carlson’s Lie-Riddled Mangling of the Capitol Insurrection

On any given day Fox News can be expected to air copious amounts of purposefully distorted diatribes aimed at the “radical liberals” that they imagine are invading their precious white nationalist utopia. The network’s bias emanates directly from its CEO, Lachlan Murdoch, who actually declared publicly that he considers it Fox’s mission to be the opposition to the Biden administration.

Fox News, Tucker Carlson, QAnon

However, the ultra-conservatism that infects Fox News is most prominently displayed by its most dangerous purveyor of inflammatory falsehoods, Tucker Carlson. His program is a daily assault on reality that seeks to trigger the already stewing hostilities of his anger-primed audience.

On Tuesday’s episode, Carlson spent part of his tele-tantrum defending and lying about the violent and deadly January 6th Capitol riots by Donald Trump’s insurrectionists. It was a startlingly benign – and arrogantly sarcastic – rewriting of recent history to portray the riots as patriotic. And it’s part of the reason why, in a recent poll, half of Republicans said that they believe the Capitol riots were “mostly peaceful.”

Carlson correctly, albeit facetiously, referred to the riots as a “white supremacist, QAnon insurrection” (which he actually supports). What follows is an annotated transcript of Carlson’s fantastical misrepresentation of a day of domestic terrorism. He begins with an absurd retelling of events that is drenched in the sarcasm that he exudes throughout the rant (video below).

“A mob of older people from unfashionable zip codes somehow made it all the way to Washington, D.C. Probably by bus. They wandered freely through the Capitol like it was their building or something.”

Carlson is portraying the United States Congress as an open facility that can be freely overrun by armed marauders. He ignores the fact that these cretins didn’t waltz in peacefully through the entrance, but trampled barricades, battered down doors, broke windows, and assaulted police officers, to gain entry to private areas that are not open to the public.

“They didn’t have guns, but a lot of them had extremely dangerous ideas. They talked about the Constitution and something called ‘their rights.’ Some of them made openly seditious claims. They insisted, for example, that the last election was not entirely fair. And then, as you’ve been told so very often, they committed unspeakable acts of violence.”

Actually, many of the rioters were armed. They had guns, bombs, clubs, tasers, mace, and other implements of violence that they used against outnumbered police. None of them were talking about the Constitution. In fact they were violating it as they sought to prevent the Congress from certifying the election results as mandated by the Constitution.

They also were not “insisting” that “the last election was not entirely fair.” They were violently imposing their delusional beliefs that the election was “stolen,” just as their Dear Leader Trump had told them. And once again, Carlson’s downplaying of what he mockingly refers to as “unspeakable acts of violence” ignores the very real unspeakable acts of violence that resulted in injuries to more than 140 police officers, killing at least one.

“By the time thousands of soldiers arrived to restore order, an unarmed woman, an air force veteran, lay dead. To this day that woman is the one completely verified casualty of the insurrection. The only person whose death we can say definitively was caused by specific events on January 6th.”

Here Carlson is snidely maligning the National Guard troops that came to help, but only after hours of intentional delay by Trump. The woman that was killed was an active rioter who was forcibly trespassing along with a few hundred of her confederates. And as noted previously, she was not the only death definitively caused by the insurrectionists.

Carlson went on to suggest that the whole atrocity was notable only because the intended victims were Democrats. As if that makes violent rioting justifiable. He dismissed it all as “just hyperventilat[ing] about QAnon,” and portrayed the rioters amiably as “a group of sad, disenfranchised people who’ve been left out of the modern economy,” and who just wanted to be listened to – by savagely storming the seat of American democracy.

Tucker Carlson is an imminent threat to the security of this nation. He is openly advocating violence to achieve his white supremacist agenda. And while Fox News has defended itself in court against Carlson’s lies by arguing (successfully!) that, given his reputation, “no reasonable person” would believe his bullpucky, that doesn’t make him less dangerous or his goals less onerous. And Fox News is just as culpable by their continued support and promotion of his toxic ambitions.

Mitch McConnell and the GOP are Suddenly Against Big Business Getting Political

Remember when the Republican candidate for President of the United States declared that “corporations are people, my friend” That was the ultra-capitalist, Mitt Romney, standing up for the constitutional rights of business enterprises and the wealthy upper-crusters who ran them. It was an extension of the Corporate Personhood doctrine and the precedents established by the right-wing majority of the Supreme Court in the Citizens United case.

Donald Trump, Republican, GOP

These legal mutations gave corporations human attributes that entitled them to protections under the Constitution for anything from religious practice to political sponsorship. The Republican Party hailed these developments as beneficial to democracy, despite the fact that the only beneficiaries were the wealthy executive class and the Republicans they supported. It allowed virtually unlimited donations to political candidates without disclosing the source of the funds.

People like the Republican leader in the Senate, Mitch McConnell, were the biggest cheerleaders for these brazenly unfair rules that disadvantaged average Americans and the organizations that worked on their behalf. It opened the door for corporations to run roughshod over the interests of the people. and that’s precisely the way McConnell et al liked it.

Until now. The recent efforts by states like Georgia and Texas to pass legislation aimed at suppressing the votes of Democrats in general, and people of color in particular, has resulted in a backlash from companies that recognize the risk they face if they support such discriminatory practices. Many companies (nearly 200) took public positions opposing the bills in Georgia. Delta Airlines and Coca-Cola were among the most vocal. Major League Baseball pulled their All-Star Game from Atlanta. This triggered the King of Cancel Culture, Donald Trump, to lash out at them and propose several other companies that he ordered his cult followers to boycott.

Obediently chasing after Trump, McConnell is now joining the anti-corporation confederacy that he used to bow down before. In a statement issued Monday, McConnell complained that…

“We are witnessing a coordinated campaign by powerful and wealthy people to mislead and bully the American people.”

Funny, that never bothered him before. McConnell continued with what he is now calling the “Big Lie.” And it isn’t Trump’s flagrant and dangerous falsehood about Joe Biden stealing the election. Nope. In McConnell’s world it’s…

“The President has claimed repeatedly that state-level debates over voting procedures are worse than Jim Crow or ‘Jim Crow on steroids.’ Nobody actually believes this.”

Actually, President Biden has never claimed that even once. He never said that “debates” are worse than Jim Crow. He said the GOP views and legislation are. And millions of American believe that. But McConnell wasn’t through. His statement continued to claim that…

“Our private sector must stop taking cues from the Outrage-Industrial Complex. Americans do not need or want big business to amplify disinformation or react to every manufactured controversy with frantic left-wing signaling.”

If one didn’t know better, one might presume that McConnell’s “Outrage-Industrial Complex” was a reference to Fox News. Of course, it’s absurd to suggest that he’d ever think such a thing. More to the point, McConnell is right that Americans don’t want big business amplifying disinformation. Which is exactly what they’ve been doing for years while financially backing Republicans. However, that isn’t what they’re doing now.

The companies speaking out in opposition to the anti-voting bills in Georgia and elsewhere are responding like any free-market enterprise would when their customers have informed them that supporting those bills would produce a consumer revolt. This isn’t a corporate-driven political action. It is customer-driven, and the corporations are exercising their rights to respond to marketplace conditions.

Republicans used to be in favor of that. But not, apparently, when it contradicts the goals of the Wingnut Contingent that they represent. In that event, McConnell and the GOP are now threatening their former Big Business allies, saying that…

“Corporations will invite serious consequences if they become a vehicle for far-left mobs to hijack our country from outside the constitutional order. Businesses must not use economic blackmail to spread disinformation and push bad ideas that citizens reject at the ballot box.”

You have to wonder what “consequences” McConnell has in mind to punish the companies that are responding to the market forces that make them profitable. It’s also curious what “constitutional order” he thinks they have strayed from. But worst of all, it’s McConnell who is resorting to “economic blackmail” in these very threats. He wants to force those companies to conform to his will. But given the choice between millions of their customers and the losers of the most recent election, his impotent yelping is unlikely to yield the obedience he craves.
