QAnon Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene Gets Nasty Phone Calls, Blames Nancy Pelosi and the Press

Ever since Donald Trump descended his golden escalator to announce his political coming out, the unfettered expressions of hate and hostility in America grew exponentially. Trump was – and is – a malice machine that generates pure and personal loathing for what were once merely policy differences, even when delivered with passion.

Marjorie Taylor Greene, QAnon

The result has been all too frequent outbursts of venomous rancor aimed at the people’s representatives. There is something terribly wrong when public servants have their lives threatened simply for doing their jobs and serving their constituents. The death threats aimed at Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar exemplify this ominous trend. And this pattern of menacing misbehavior reached a pinnacle when Trump’s rabid supporters stormed Congress on January 6th, threatening to kill the Speaker of the House and hang the vice president.

The unholy wars waged by Republican StormTrumpers has taken another disturbing turn. Recently Rep. Omar played a recording of a death threat she received. In response Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA-QAnon) has released her own version of alleged threats against her. In a video that she posted on Twitter, Greene rightfully said that “It is completely wrong for any member of Congress to receive death threats.” But then, as if to make a contest of it, she identified herself as “the most attacked freshman member of Congress probably in United States history.”

Greene’s tirade blamed the threatening calls on the media that she said defamed her. “They have smeared my character,” she complained, “called me names, and labeled me horrible things, none of which I am.” And before playing a few recordings of the phone calls she claimed she received, Greene again pointed her accusatory finger at the media for “teach[ing] people to hate us, members of Congress.” She closed by adding other culprits to those she deemed responsible for the threats against her:

“This is all the fault of the media and the January 6th Commission. Nancy Pelosi, the Democrats, Adam Kinzinger, Liz Cheney, all playing a part trying to paint Republicans and president Trump as if we caused any violence on Capitol Hill on January 6th. None of us did that. […] this is what happens when the media constantly creates members of Congress as villains and monsters, which we are not. This has to stop. The press has the freedom of press, but it does not have the freedom to lie. And it does not have the right to teach people to hate like this.”

The first thing that needs to be acknowledged is that Greene is a notorious liar and these alleged threats could be – let’s say trumped up. But even if they are legit, Greene is casting blame in a manner that is irresponsible and downright bizarre. She doesn’t provide a single example of any remarks by the media that could credibly incite death threats. The same is true of her baseless accusations against Pelosi and the bipartisan House Select Committee investigating the January 6th insurrection. The truth is that Greene is just mad that the press reports what she actually does and says. Which is true for Trump and the rest of the GOP as well.

On the other hand, Greene herself has engaged in the sort of gruesome rhetoric that can produce death threats. She recently said that Pelosi’s advocacy of face masks in Congress was “exactly the type of abuse” as Nazis sending Jews to gas chambers during the holocaust. Greene has even invited attacks on her GOP confederates who had the audacity to vote for Biden’s infrastructure bill. She maligned them as “traitors” five times in this Twitter thread.

It’s not coincidental that Greene just happens to have some recordings to air so soon after Rep. Omar aired hers. But Greene’s added commentary only exacerbates the problem that she purports to be addressing. She is instigating further violence against the media, Pelosi, and Republicans that she deems insufficiently loyal to the Cult of Trump. It is a transparent attempt to deflect from the very real abuses suffered by both Democrats and Republicans who have run afoul of Trump and the QAnon flank of the GOP. And Greene knows this because she is among the top offenders.

Trump and his Deplorables Cheer the Spread of COVID While Trying to Smear Biden

Politics can be a dirty game. Particularly when disreputable players overtly applaud tragedies simply because those dreadful events will reflect badly on their opponents. These low-lifes actually care more about their own political self-interests than the suffering of innocent people. And no one is more likely to behave so despicably than the failed reality TV game show host, Donald Trump.

Donald Trump Virus

On Thursday Trump hosted a campaign event at his Mar-a-Lago resort and spa in Palm Beach, Florida. The candidate he was hyping was former footballer, Herschel Walker, who Trump persuaded to run for the Senate in Georgia against newly elected Democrat, Raphael Warnock. Walker has a troubling past that includes threatening to kill his ex-wife, and later a girlfriend and himself. Which is probably what Trump likes about him.

At the Mar-a-Lago affair, Trump delivered his routine and tedious stump screech exalting himself, whining about his perceived victimhood, and lashing out viciously at his foes. The harangue eventually wound up lambasting President Joe Biden. But the tack Trump took was grotesque and dishonest. After lying about how wonderful everything was early in his presidency, Trump complained that all his troubles began when “the virus came in.” Then he launched into his predictable anti-Biden tirade, focusing on Biden’s promise to fight the COVID pandemic:

“Biden said, ‘I’ll get rid of it.’ How the hell is he doing? He’s not doing so well against the virus. I thought he was gonna get rid of it. More people died this year than died last year with all the vaccines and everything we had.”

This video shows Trump actually rooting for the coronavirus. He is downright giddy about the pandemic causing misery, suffering, and death. Trump’s only consideration is that such hardships might damage Biden’s standing politically. And the elite audience at his resort laughed and applauded Trump’s pro-COVID cheerleading. These are sick people.

It is also notable that Trump is brazenly misleading about the fatalities due to COVID this year and last. He’s using the same dishonest argument that was used recently by the Wall Street Journal and also by Fox News. They both ignore the fact that Trump started from zero fatalities and did nothing (more accurately, made things worse) while it ramped up to 400,000, and millions infected by December of 2020. Consequently, Biden’s term began at the end of January with millions of people already exposed and capable of transmitting to others.

The continued infections and fatalities in 2021 are, of course, also attributable to Trump and his right-wing media mouthpieces at Fox News and elsewhere. They are still resisting measures to mitigate the virus, such as wearing masks and getting vaccinated. But with the competence and compassion that Trump is incapable of, Biden still reduced the growth rate of fatalities by 75 percent.

Furthermore, we must not forget that more than 90% of the new hospitalizations and fatalities are among unvaccinated people. These are the people that Trump (and Fox News) has mislead from the start. So, not surprisingly, the pandemic is impacting red states and counties far more than blue.

These new remarks by Trump are certain to exacerbate that disparity. From the start of the pandemic Trump has sought to downplay its severity. In the book RAGE, by Bob Woodward it was documented that Trump had deliberately lied, saying that he “wanted to always play it down.” And Trump insiders recently disclosed that he has refused to promote vaccines because it might upset his cult followers or, gawd forbid, help Biden. So, if nothing else, Trump is consistent in his determination to benefit himself no matter how dreadful the consequences for others.

On FOX News Ingraham and Cruz Threaten to ‘CANCEL’ the Supreme Court if it Doesn’t Overturn Roe

The “Cancel Culture” rhetoric is an exclusively right-wing phenomenon intended to provide conservatives with a platform for whining about their imaginary victimhood. It is a thoroughly manufactured variant of what they used to call political correctness. Never mind that Republicans, Fox News – and especially the Undisputed King of Cancel Culture, Donald Trump – are more often the perpetrators of the alleged “canceling.”

Fox News, Laura Ingraham

Now Fox News is upping the ante with their cancellation fixation. While they frequently aimed their animus at targets like children’s toys, or sports figures, or even their own GOP confederates who they deem insufficiently obedient, they have now put the Supreme Court in their sights.

On Wednesday the Supreme Court heard oral arguments on a case from Mississippi that seeks to overturn Roe vs. Wade. Virtually every media analysis of the proceedings came away with the impression the six conservative justices were strongly leaning toward upholding the Mississippi law that effectively bans abortion. But for some reason, that lockstep concurrence with anti-choice dogma wasn’t enough for Fox News host Laura Ingraham and her ideological twin, Sen. Ted Cruz. They were both incensed about something that was unclear. Perhaps it was the Court’s failure to issue an immediate edict sending all women who have considered abortion to Gitmo for reeducation. You decide…

Ingraham: If we have six Republican appointees on this court, after all the money that has been raised, the Federalist Society, all these big fat cat dinners – I’m sorry, I’m pissed about this – If this court with six justices cannot do the right thing here, the constitutional thing, then I think it’s time to do what Robert Bork said we should do. Which is to circumscribe the jurisdiction of this court and if they wanna blow it up, then that’s the way to change things finally. Because this can’t stand. This is insane.
Cruz: I would do that in a heartbeat. As you know the Constitution gives Congress the authority to restrict the jurisdiction of the court. I think we should do that.

Wow! Ingraham is actually suggesting that the Supreme Court vote a particular way because of the financial contributions to that position. She believes that if enough money is thrown at a case, the court is obligated to rule in favor of the “fat cats.” Likewise, she thinks that the justices have obligations to the political party of the president that appointed them. She is articulating her vision of a Supreme Brothel that is comprised not of justices, but of obedient political prostitutes.

What’s more, both Ingraham and Cruz are threatening to impose legislative constraints on the Court to limit what kinds of cases it is allowed to hear. There does appear to be a constitutional provision that could permit Congress to impose such constraints. Article III, Section 2 says that…

“In all Cases affecting Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, and those in which a State shall be a Party, the Supreme Court shall have original Jurisdiction. In all other Cases before mentioned, the Supreme Court shall have appellate Jurisdiction, both as to Law and Fact, with such Exceptions, and under “such Regulations as the Congress shall make.”

The phrase granting “such Regulations as the Congress shall make,” is the part that could be interpreted as providing the limiting powers of Congress. But the phrase referencing that “a State shall be a Party,” to the “original Jurisdiction” might mean that any litigation wherein a state is a litigant is exempt from the limiting powers that are only available in matters of “appellate Jurisdiction.” (Constitutional lawyers, feel free to comment).

However, if Congress were to pass legislation dictating what the Court can consider, it would be opening up a Pandora’s Box of controversy. It would mean that the ever changing partisan majorities of Congress could exploit this legal loophole to impact matters as diverse as abortion, guns, civil rights, immigration, religion, voting, etc.

Ingraham and Cruz are clearly eager to risk that future of see-saw constitutionality for what they believe is in their near-term, partisan interest. They could come to regret that. But their support for treating the Court as beholden to money and party politics is unambiguously grotesque and un-America. Which also makes it unmistakably consistent with the Trumpian Republican brand.

Jen Psaki Shocks Fox News Hack Peter Doocy with Trump’s Deadly Record of COVID Mismanagement

The White House correspondent for Fox News, Peter Doocy, has made it his mission to try to construct blatantly biased questions during the White House press briefings. For the most part he has failed miserably, as press secretary Jen Psaki has easily batted his screwballs out of the park.

Psaki Lightening

Undeterred by repeated smackdowns, Doocy tried again on Wednesday. He chose for his lame attempt at a journalistic sucker punch a query about comparing the COVID fatalities during the Trump administration to those of the Biden administration. But his ignorance and inability to grasp that Psaki is his intellectual superior in every way, led to another embarrassing drubbing (video below):

Doocy: In 2021, when roughly 220,000 Americans had already died of COVID, Joe Biden said about Trump, “Anyone who was responsible for that many deaths should not remain as President of the United States of America.” Is that still the standard now that more Americans have died under President Biden?

Doocy really needs to be relieved if he didn’t see Psaki’s effortless response coming. He left her wide open for a crushing retort that blistered him and his offstage overseer, Donald Trump:

Psaki: I think the fundamental question here is what are you doing to save lives and protect people. And the former President was suggesting people inject bleach. He reportedly didn’t even share with people he was going to interact with that he tested positive for COVID himself. He continued to provide a forum for misinformation, which probably led to people not taking steps forward to protect themselves, to wear a mask, to eventually get vaccinated.

This President has made the vaccine widely available. He’s relied on the advice of his health and medical experts, and he is trying to be a part of solving this crisis, getting the pandemic under control. And I think there’s a pretty stark difference between their approaches.

If one didn’t know better, it would almost seem like Doocy was setting Psaki up to hit home runs. She masterfully exploited his leading question to remind everyone of how terribly Trump mismanaged the pandemic response. She exposed Trump’s ignorance, negligence, carelessness, and deliberate malfeasance. And she closed with the record of President Biden’s compassionate and competent leadership through harrowing times.

Doocy has the distinct disadvantage of being employed by the network that is most responsible for the misinformation about COVID that has resulted in their killing off their own viewers. It’s the network that has maligned the renowned and beloved Dr. Fauci as comparable to the Nazi sadist and murderer, Josef Mengele.

What’s more, Doocy is rehashing the poor math that suggests that Biden’s pandemic response is no better than Trump’s. That was thoroughly debunked here at News Corpse last week, noting that the massive growth in infections and fatalities during the Trump years was turned around into spectacular declines by Biden:

“In real terms, during Trump’s last year in office the number of fatalities went from 10 (when Trump said it would soon decline back to zero) to 400,000, an increase of four million (4,000,000!) percent. During Biden’s first year in office the number of fatalities went from about 400,000 to 800,000, an increase of only 100 percent. That’s a fatality rate percentage decline of 99.9975 percent. So it is brazenly dishonest to say that Biden did no better than Trump. The truth is that during Biden’s term the United States went from 4000 people dying every day by the end of Trump’s term, to about 1,000 deaths a day under Biden, A decline of 75 percent.”

Doocy may or may not be aware of these facts. But he clearly doesn’t care. All he’s interested in is sandbagging the press secretary. It’s just too bad that he is so painfully terrible at it. But you have admit that he has an astonishing tolerance for the humiliation he endures nearly every day.

Fox News Escalates the War on Christmas with Report on Biden’s ‘Nationwide Santa Shortage’

“The most wonderful time of the year…” is upon us again: The War on Christmas! This annual observance of asininity by right-wing armies of derp celebrates the imaginary assault on the winter holiday that purports revere the Christian Prince of Peace. So Fox News considers it appropriate to wage a contrived war on unsuspecting holiday revelers.

Fox News, Christmas, Coronavirus

The latest front in this battle of twits took place during Wednesday’s episode of Fox’s American Newsroom. Co-host Bill Hemmer introduced the segment saying that “Thanks to a growing shortage of Santas, HireSanta [dot com] reports a 10% decrease in Santas this year versus a 121% increase in demand. Hemmer speculated, therefore, that “Even Santa doesn’t want to work in this economy.” And of course, this is all President Biden’s fault, as was pointed out in the tweet of this breaking news by the Republican National Committee:

There’s a lot that Fox News left out of this shocking and exclusive exposé. For instance, what role did the global supply chain disruption play in the unavailability of Santas in America? And what is Biden doing to address it? Are there Santas backlogged on cargo ships in clogged port facilities?

What’s more, is Biden responsible for a decline in Christmas spirit due to this seasonally inconvenient Santa shortage? Or, conversely, does the higher demand for Santas this year mean that the spirit of Christmas is stronger during Biden’s term than during that of Donald Trump?

Fox News also failed to investigate the possible reasons for this unsettling Santa deficit. Could it have something to do with the COVID pandemic? After all, the coronavirus disproportionately impacts the demographic from which Santas are recruited: older people and those who are overweight.

There may be many of those potential Santas who succumbed to COVID in the past couple of years. The survivors may be hesitant to place themselves in jeopardy. Particularly with all of the unvaccinated children who would be sitting on their laps and possibly coughing and sneezing in close proximity.

Contrary to the framing of Fox News, the scarcity of Santas is most likely due to Fox News itself for disseminating blatant disinformation about the pandemic. And Trump and his administration’s aversion to mitigation measures, such as vaccines, masks, and social distancing is equally responsibly for the dearth of Santas. Had the public health experts been heeded, this pandemic might have ended long ago and Santas would be plentiful. Instead, Santa’s Village may be somewhat desolate this year, unless younger Santas with pillows take up the slack.
